The Conquests of the Atlanteans: In the years preceding the destruction of Atlantis there were many refugees that fled the decadence and degeneration of Atlantean society, and in the years following many survivors also fled. The primary destination was the previously established island nation of Megalos. Kastor, son of the hero turned god Arkantos became the King of Megalos, and he was advised by his tutor and high priest Krios during his reign. It was his descendant, Arkantos the Third that would conquer the known world and his death that would throw it into chaos and warfare. The core of the Army and his officer corps was Atlantean as well, and many believe that through their lineage they are inherently superior to others who cannot trace their ancestry back to that ancient civilization.

Nokheprus: Long ago, it was said that the Land of the Black Sands was ruled by a series of dark pharaohs, sons of the Chaos Serpent, who bound blasphemy and black magic into the land itself. But the divine magic, like any substance, was diluted in the blood of generations until it was lost entirely. By the time Arkantos ho Megas touched his ships upon the arid shore, all that remained of them were the tombs lost in sand and the scrolls worn with age.

Immediately after Arkantos’ death, his most trusted naval commander, Rhynosion, knowing his fleet could not pierce the inland, fled to Nokheprus. He had been the one to lead the liberation of the land years before, and he knew he could count on popular support there.

The Girtablilu Tribes ( lore and culture notes)

elsen öt (The sandworm) : The sandworm is a worm like animal that can grow seemingly without limit, the worms are only considered adult once they reach a length of 30 feet. The Girtablilu believe their goddess Silun Gorgelji when the first of their race cried out for help from her when her desert was found to be far to harsh for them to survive alone. The Sandworm is thus a sacred animal found in many of their arts and clan names with skin color often seen as a blessing or curse from the goddess. The albino worm is often seen as an ill omen and if found are slain, where those that have golden skin are seen as blessed and their owners are considered to speak for the goddess. The diet of the sandworm is largely unknown even to their keepers, if asked a Girtablilu would say the worms eat the sands of the desert. Their excretions' are equally confusing as they seem to only excrete solid dry balls of silk. this silk is gathered up by their keepers and used in their weaving. Their skin can be tanned to make light but hard leather. They also have the oddest sensitivity to water, sandworms simply can't deal with it and if brought close to water they will become water sick. This can also help their handlers as even in the driest sands there is some water and all that water is kept in a special sack inside the worm. The Girtablilu know how to pierce this sack and draw out the water which actually helps the worm. One more thing of note is that according to legend the worms can live forever and will grow for their whole life, thus legends speak of a massive worm somewhere in the dessert able to swallow cities. Still this trait has never been seen, but larger worms have been used as war worms to undermine enemy positions.

Silun Gorgelji: Is the creator sun goddess of the Girtablilu, she is said to take the form of a golden scorpion and be the sun itself. In myth she did not make the world, but instead made the desert's and all that dwell within. She is often described as harsh but loving, her children are to be strong, yet she is not entirely deaf to their plight. She is associated with golden worms and scorpions with people owing those creatures from birth often said to speak her will. While the girtablilu do say there are other gods she is their only god and their god alone any other race that says they worship her are generally killed when they say such.

elsen torgo ( sand silk): The silk coming from the Sandworms is known for being even more durable than other silks. The silk is used by the Girtablilu for many things, making clothes that can double as light armor, making rugs and bedding with many decorative flourishes, making their tents, and many other uses that vary from tribe to tribe. Given the Girtablilu as a whole don't engage in trade there is very little of this silk outside of their tribes. As Sandworms are impossible to raise outside of the most dry and desolate of deserts other countries trying to produce this silk have always failed.

khums ( clawspeak): Khums is the language of the Girtablilu tribes and is shared by them all with only minor variations. Khums gained it's name as it's first iteration used purely the lower large claws and latter evolved to include spoken elements. The language has become a mostly spoken language, but the clicking of claws is needed to add punctuation and proper pronunciation. Learned the language is very hard for outsiders and speaking it properly is next to impossible.

Cannibalism: The Girtablilu tend to not really eat their own, though some tribes do and while this is frowned on it is not seen as anything abhorrent and even those that do not practice it will partake in it if with a tribe that dose. This possable ban does not extend to any other race, if killed there is a chance the Girtablilu will return to use the enemy dead as food for latter.

Knowledge of the outside: The tribes being as aggressive as they are don't actually get much information of the outside world and actually are unaware of the death of Arkantos and assume all that enter the desert are with him or are servants of him. The sands are not safe for any all humans are his allies and all none humans are his servants and all should die for that crime.

elsnii duuchin (Sand singers): While the Girtablilu tribe show very little knowledge or skill with magic the Sand singer is a somewhat common sight on the battle field. The singers are an almost all female group that serve not only as fighters but as something akin to priests or shaman for their goddess. They are known for their power over sand often joining together in a choir to magnify their power. In a choir the singers can call forth great and long lasting sand storm, or twisting pillars of sand that sweep away their foes, They also enjoy creating quicksand traps that can swallow up large groups of warrior to never be seen again.

Economy: The economy of the tribes is purely based bartering there is no official or controlled currency. Oftentimes money found in raids is seen as a waste and while not left behind it has little use but to be made into trinkets and jewelry.

On Linguistics: There are two languages of note in the Known world, and most noteworthy is of course Atlantean, that language of Heroes and Gods, and the one in which I address you now. The other is the primary tongue of most all Eastern Barbarians. The main tongue of the Eastern Barbarian appears to be derived from the inhabitants of the great Cedar Forests and the Plains to the north. There are of course many local tongues that are spoken across the continent. But for the most part because of the great empire, this tongue which they call Akkam has become known to almost all people in the continent. Of course, as our own Atlantean language has become polluted amongst the lower classes through too close contact with foreign barbarians so too has the language of the Akkamite barbarians, if even more so. Yet it remains intelligible across the continent so it serves well enough. There are however a few peoples who refuse to adopt either the Atlantean tongue of civilization or the savage yet serviceable language of the Akkamites. Foremost amongst them are the Nokhep to the south, a dark and loathsome culture, it is said that they were ruled by powerful Sorceror-Kings of Old and their vile practices pollute the very land to this day. Another would be the Hellenois, stubborn mountain goat herders and fishermen of the West, the first people to be enlightened by the rule of our forefathers, and yet determined to learn nothing whatsoever from their betters.
