history

Indiana Myers was born Kim Yi-Soo in Gwangju, South Korea. His memories of his birth parents are...almost nonexistent. His mother, Kim Sook-Ja, was 16 when she gave birth to him and his father was never in the picture. Sook-Ja's parents disowned her soon after finding out she was pregnant, leaving her to fend for herself. She tried, believe me, to raise him herself. It was impossible for her. At the age of 2, he was left to live at an orphanage while she "tried to get her life together". It seemed that by the time he turned 5, the woman who had given birth to him dropped off the face of the planet. The orphanage tried to search for her, but they never found her.

Just a small child at 5 years of age, Yi-Soo was shipped across the ocean to become a part of the Myers family in Australia. Dr. Stephanie Myers and her husband Neil had tried, but could never conceive after years and even infertility treatments. They very happily welcomed the little boy into their home with open arms and warm hearts. When he came to live in a predominantly English speaking country, he picked Indiana as his new name (since he liked the movie Indiana Jones so much).

Much of his early life was fairly easy. Indie began to come out of his shell that he had grown around 8 when his English was becoming much better. That was right around the time when the Myers adopted another child. Katelyn was 2 years old when she came to live with them. It was pretty amazing to him that she came all the way from India. The fact that it was so close to his name made him grow even more attached to her. He always believed that becoming a big brother helped make him into the bright excitable child that he was. Once again the family grew when he was 12 and Katelyn was 6. They welcomed Tori and Finley who were biological siblings at the ages of 4 and 3 respectively. With them, their family was called complete.

Middle and high school were a bit rough for Indie. Being the obviously adopted kid was hard, and the fact he was the only Asian in his class made it worse. He wasn't stupid, but learning in a classroom setting had always been difficult. He never made great grades and he had to work hard in order to get the ones that he did. His parents were there for him through everything though. Incredibly supportive in everything that he did and wanted. It was middle school, though, when he found his passion. Music. Specifically the drums. Since his parents would have let him get away with murder if it made him happy, they also let him and a couple of his friends play in their garage.

And he never stopped playing since. He attempted college after a gap year and a half of traveling. It was just that a classroom had never been the place for him. After two semesters of electives, he called it quits and wanted to focus primarily on music. It was when he was 21 that he was asked to join another band called Beauty of Influence. Indie was super close to all his old band mates, but he didn't have the heart to tell them that they hadn't improved since freshman year of high school. Even then, it was more of a hobby than a job for the other three, so when he told them he was offered a more stable spot, they were happy for him. Indie still agreed to play with them when he could. He really can't get enough of playing the drums, so it was a win-win for him.

It's been 4, almost 5, years since Beauty of Influence started playing together. After two eps and a full album, they have a small fan base. Even if they've made some money, to split it between five people is cutting it pretty close. So to supplement his income from small gigs, he works as a manager at a movie theater. He's worked there for over 7 years, but hey, it pays the bills. Indie is pretty happy, even if he isn't famous. All he needs is to get his love life sorted out. He thought he did, but after a break up 8 months ago with his girlfriend of 3 years, he isn't so sure. Dang it sucks to be alone again.

relationships

Neil and Stephanie Myers- The amazingly kind and sweet people who adopted Indie and his siblings. They are who made him...him. Their unwavering support has is a kindness he can never repay. He looks up to them a lot and cares deeply about them and their guidance.

Katelyn Myers- They have been close since they were kids. It was Indie and Katie against the world. His younger adoptive sister is very different in a lot of ways. Mostly in the intelligence and school department. At 20 she's attending college to become an engineer. She's really cool and strong, but Indiana is still super protective over her.

Tori Myers- Tori has had some behavioral issues since she was adopted. She's a good kid, she just has a lot of energy and isn't able to focus very well. He understands why, the home they came from wasn't the best. She deals with anxiety and other things. Indie tries his best to be a source of comfort and a strong rock for her when she needs someone to talk to. Tori is 18 now and only has a year left of school. She says she's planning on going to art school.

Finely Myers- Finely was born with down's syndrome. Combined with early childhood abuse, he doesn't speak much to most people. Indie adores his younger brother and his younger brother adores him. They have a super close relationship despite Finley's disabilities. He's an amazing kid, incredibly sweet and loving. No one will ever hurt him on Indie's watch. He is most precious boy.

Terrance Dillon- Terrance is a cousin on his dad's side of the family that he was super close to when they were kids. They were very close in age and they used to live just down the street from him. Indie hasn't talked to him much since he moved when they were in middle school. They see each other at family gatherings and such. In fact, they haven't properly spent time together in years. But he still thinks highly of him since he helped Indie adjust to his new life with his new family.

Sabina Rosario- The two met while she was tending a bar that Indie's band happened to play at a few times. They talked a bit after one night when the bar had shut down and they really hit it off. After that they went on a few dates, and a few dates lead to being boyfriend and girlfriend, which continued for 3 years. Somehow the pair drifted apart. They fought more often and their communication got worse and worse. Both Sabina and Indie mutually decided to call it quits. Even if they knew it was for the best, it still hurt. He loved Sabina. The boy was a wreck for weeks after they broke up. Like bleach your hair and gain 10 lbs kind of wreck. After 8 months things are feeling better, and Indie thinks he's nearing being over her and ready to move on. They're still friendly, and have the potential to be close friends despite being exes. That just proves it's better off this way.

History

In 2000, Eliza Harris told her boyfriend at the time, Jayden, that she was pregnant. And what did Jayden do? Well, he ran. He just up and left without a word. Eliza, who was only twenty at the time, was absolutely distraught and horrified that she was going to have to raise this child without its father. However, just because Jayden wasn’t in the picture, didn’t mean this child didn’t have a family.

Eliza lived with her parents in Cable Beach, Broome, Western Australia. To her parents, this was the norm for someone of their culture to be pregnant at this age without a father. In fact, it had even happened to her grandmother. So when Marlee Harris came into the world in on October 10th 2000, she was welcomed into loving arms. Never for a second did Eliza curse Jayden because at least now she had a beautiful daughter.

As an Indigenous Australian, Marlee was often teased at school for her blonde hair and blue eyes. After all, none of the other Aboriginal children in her school had hair and eyes like hers. Her school peers would question her if she was wearing contact lenses and if she bleached her hair. Even if they went to the shops, her and Eliza would get stopped by random strangers who would gawk and stare at her like she was some animal on display at a zoo.

Along came high school with puberty, and Marlee began to pay more attention to boys rather her studying. Her mother was working a full-time job, often leaving Marlee home by herself. Eliza’s job would often have her travelling to remote cities around the Kimberley’s and she trusted Marlee enough to care for herself by leaving her with money and strict rules. It was around this time that Marlee also discovered alcohol and how much it made her feel nice.

At the age of fifteen, Marlee was regular at all the parties around the city. She was a social butterfly and everyone knew who she was. By the age of sixteen, she met someone rather mysterious at her friend, Emily’s, party. He was Emily’s older brother’s best friend; Terrance Dillon. Marlee and Terrance hit it off straight away after discovering they both had the same taste in music. And, Marlee had to admit, he was pretty cute.

Over the next year, Terrance and Marlee were practically inseparable. He would come and pick her up after school to hang out, they would text late into the night, and they drank and partied together on the weekends. Sure, Terrance was around six years older than her. But he just seemed to get her, you know? So, it was safe to say she had developed quite a schoolgirl crush on him. Knowing that she was much younger than him, she never attempted anything because… well, what if he wasn’t into her in that way?

When she was seventeen, they were at a party together when Terrance randomly approached her and kissed her. It was her first kiss and considering they were both high and drunk, it felt like complete bliss. The next day, Terrance didn’t bring it up with her and Marlee just assumed that it was a drunken mistake. However, at every party they managed to go to, Terrance always found a way to place his lips onto hers. But dare not speak about it outside of the party zone. When they were drunk with other people, they would often send crude, revealing pictures to one another. Marlee would often look at the photos the next day and wonder what the hell she was thinking – all the while smirking at herself that he seemed to like what she had sent.

A week before her eighteenth birthday, Terrance came and picked her up. When she asked him where they were going, he told her it was a ‘birthday surprise’. They arrived at the beach and he had this whole picnic set up for the pair of them. They ate pizza, drank wine until her head spun, and it was generally a very cute, adorable night. Once the sun started to sink, Terrance offered to bring her to a lookout point to watch the sun go down. She, of course, agreed because it seemed like a great way to end the night.

They sat in the back of his car together, watching the sun go down and talking about absolute nonsense. And then the kissing began. And it continued. And it continued further with touching – to which Marlee said no because she wasn’t comfortable. But Terrance kept going. And Marlee told him to stop. But he kept going. She pushed him off, telling him in a bold voice that she said ‘no’.

And then he punched her in the face.

Struck with fear, Marlee managed to push him off and scrambled to exit the car. She practically fell out of the car and began to run as she noticed Terrance following her, growling at her to come back. He chased her down into bushland; she practically ran for her life. He caught up to her, pushed her to her stomach on the ground and began to have his way with her. She screamed, cried, and tried to use all her energy and might to push him off. But he was too strong, and every time she resisted, he would continue to slam her into the ground.

They say your first time should be with someone you love and care about. That it should be something magical. There was nothing magical about it at all. All she could feel was pain radiating through her body. He was violent, full of force and to top it all off, the final slam to the ground that he gave her caused her head to collide with a rock. It was wasn’t until after he had finished and stood up that he realized that the girl wasn’t responsive and that there was blood pouring from her head. Panicking, he left her there; bleeding out, clothes ripped and her dignity gone.

Thankfully, a couple had been walking together nearby and had heard the screams. They came to investigate the sound and found Marlee. Terrance had left the scene and was speeding away long before the couple had managed to locate the girl. Once at the hospital, they found damage to the blood vessels in her brain due to the traumatic vascular injury which shortly after caused a stroke. Thankfully, she had been well monitored and the doctors were able to intervene.

After a month or so in the hospital, Marlee was released but… she wasn’t the same. The police wanted to know everything that happened so they could find the man ‘who raped her’. But she told them that she didn’t know. That it was a complete stranger. She didn’t want Terrance to get into trouble because… well, she believed that she had led him on. A couple of months after returning home from the hospital, it was evident that Marlee was experiencing PTSD from the whole ordeal and her mother got her into counselling.

The week before her nineteenth birthday, Marlee was re-admitted into hospital for alcohol poisoning after receiving multiple messages from Terrance who was wishing her a happy birthday. She just wanted to drink away her sorrows. Knowing that a change of scenery could do both her and her daughter some good, Eliza began to search for new jobs in different areas. Most places rejected her, but eventually, she managed to score a job in Perth. So, eight months after Marlee’s alcohol poisoning, the family relocated to Perth.

Eliza told Marlee to take her time to get back into life. There were only three conditions she had to live by; go to therapy, take her medication in the morning, and to attend group dances practices and performances. Apart from that, she could do whatever she wanted. After a couple of weeks of just lounging around the house, she was growing more fed up with doing nothing and applied for a job at Ace Cinemas nearby. Even though she’s only had three shifts there so far, she can tell that she’s going to like it there.

relationships

Eliza Harris - Her best friend in the whole world: her mother. After Marlee’s father walked out when Eliza told him that she was pregnant, Eliza has done anything and everything to ensure that her daughter is well loved and cared for. The night when she received a phone call to say that Marlee was in hospital, she felt like she had failed as a mother.

After Marlee was released from the hospital, she noticed that she wasn’t acting like herself anymore. The spark in her eyes were gone, and she seemed to be afraid of everything. So, in her daughter’s best interest, she decided that they should move to Perth where she could see top therapists help with her Post Traumatic Stress and other mental issues.

Eliza is a traditional Aboriginal dancer, having scored a job at the Wadumbah Dance Group in Perth as an educator and dancer. With the dance group, she performs at schools and universities, festivals, conferences and conventions, sporting events, opening and welcoming ceremonies, Welcome To Country presentations, and private functions (including weddings). Marlee is also apart of the dance group, having opportunities to perform at these said events too.

Terrance Dillon - Marlee met Terrance when she was sixteen years old. She was introduced to him through mutual friends, bonding over the same taste of music. She developed a crush on him in the early stages of their friendship. Even though he was well and truly far too old for her, she didn’t care. She saw age simply as a number (and didn’t take into consideration that technically, it might be somewhat illegal).

To this day, she has no clue what he’s doing or where he is. In fact, she doesn’t want to know. She has blocked him on every form of social media and his number too. She never wants to see that stupid face of his ever again.
