My Interest Check
I just was thinking and realized that the majority of my oc's have bits and pieces of people who I know IRL. Has anyone done the same thing?

does it count when most of my Oc's are based on a conceptual person... what I mean by that is simple,, its me + a random friend or character I enjoy in one person.

I based one of my characters on a sergeant I knew from the army who was always super monotone and once wrote me up for an improperly formatted email

A genderbent version of him though lol

Not at all, honestly. For me, roleplay is a form of escapism. So I don't really want to think about the people I know irl and connect my characters to them haha
The only exception are total strangers who I see briefly on the bus or something. They sometimes inspire me to make a character if they have a really cool clothing style or interesting habits.
But these are hardly people I know.

I don't do that deliberately, but pretty sure I'm doing it subconsciously quite a lot, drawing inspiration from real life. Not like, one character = one person, but rather a character may have traits and reactions similar to several people.

Most of the time they'll be side characters that only show up once or twice but it's pretty frequent. I also usually make sure they're cool with it first. Most of my friend group found each other because we we all shared the trauma of roleplaying on amino growing up, so we definitely are all pretty chill with it.

Well, Santiago Rios isn't 100% me, but he's the closest self insert I've got. He's Hispanic, wear's glasses, scrawny, and is heavily into sci-fi and fantasy. He's a recent character addition to my roster. He's not a main character, just a side character.
