So you all know the story basically. Fifty years ago a huge rift opened above the world, apparently everywhere in the world directly 'above' people and started raining down a bunch of stuff. Satellites couldn't pick anything up and the scientists of the world scratched their heads in total confusion. The objects let loose fell into two categories, Discs and Drives. The Discs are palm sized metal objects made of an unknown and unbreakable material with a number of grooves indented on one side and a picture on the other. The Drive's were strange armbands that change to fit whoever puts it on and locks there, with a glass case and a 'player' for three discs. When a Disc is put into a Drive is when the magic happens. The Disc contain the powers and abilities of a single fictional character.
Sometimes its Sherlock Holmes, other times you get yourself Smaug from the Hobbit. Its an utter crapshoot and even today there are more discs being found basically all around the world, always on dry land for whatever reason. Maybe the force that sent them didn't like the idea of littering. Who can say? The only seeming limit thats been found is that the Discs don't contain any historical figures, or at least not direct historical figures. Heard there was a guy out west who can turn into Abraham Lincoln but with an axe and superhuman strength. Beats me on that one. Anyway the entire world kind of got out of wack for a bit, about thirty years of pretty much global chaos.
Then stepped in a group that had come together with some of the strongest Discs and Drivers, and basically smacked the world upside its head and told them to get their collective shit together. It was a slow process, but a year after the period of chaos things kind of got amazing. Best minds in all of fiction came together and essentially turned life pretty damn great worldwide. Robots that can deal with most daily chores, climate change and environmental effects put right, yada yada. Doesn't mean there aren't still problems around the world, just that by and large there is less of it to go around.
The worlds two biggest issues at the moment if you were to ask four out of five people would be the Scratchers and even higher up the D.J. The Scratch are a group of troublemakers who want to collect the best and most powerful Discs for ultimately selfish purposes, and are treated as a minor nuisance at the best of times. While some of their number have shown themselves to be dangerous, by and large they are mostly just a bunch of thugs throwing their weight around.
The D.J. is another matter, a mysterious figure that has a hold on the 'Twilight Collection', a number of the most threatening and dangerous Discs in the world. They end up in the hands of desperate people who use them and spread chaos throughout the world. From alien gods to giant monsters, once they are used they will possess their user. To combat these two threats the world has come together to train a new line of defenders, bringing together the best and brightest to fight back the spread of chaos.
So whatcha say kid, you in?

- Disc: One of the two things let out by the Rift fifty years ago, each containing the power and abilities of a character from fiction. No two Discs are the same, however they can be similar. For instance Golden Age Superman wouldn't be the same as Modern Day Superman. It seems as long as there is enough divergence there will be two Discs.
- Drives: A device attached to an odd armband that fuses to its user and can only be taken off by them. Each Drive has a unique ability attached to it, for instance 'Empower' which can strengthen a Disc, or 'Fuse' which allows two Discs to be added together to make a combined character. Drive users who put in a Disc will totally transform into the character installed on the Disc, with the exception of the Disc itself. The Drive itself can only be used for a certain period of time which equates to the power of the character installed on the Disc itself, and once it reaches a certain stage will be unaccessable until it recharges.
- Ego Barrier: A hypothetical 'wall' between a Drive user and the character installed on the Disc. It allows access to the skills, powers, and abilities of the character without directly removing any traits from the user.
- Ego Break: A 'break' in the Ego Barrier that can occur if using a certain Disc with too much power. Will start to leak thoughts and memories associated with the character into the mind of the user.
- Ego Death: The result of a full Ego Break, where the character installed on the Disc will completely rewrite the mind of the Drive user. Rare outside of Discs 'gifted' by the D.J., through still a frightening possibility.
