Demon Slayer: New Sword
1572251035772.pngThe Final Selection is a thorough process hosted by the Demon Slayer Corps to determine whether the participating individuals will be accepted. Young warriors from all over Japan come to this event to test their skills after years of training. Hosted at the top of Mt. Fujikasane, up in the hills. The meeting area is covered with beautiful wisteria. Such beautiful flowers that catch the eye, covered the true horrors hidden within the forest. Demons dwelling deep in the mountains. Waiting for unsuspecting and inexperienced teens to come into their territory.
All incoming contenders are greeted by two ushers, briefing them with an orientation on what they must do. They mention that demons are not able to leave the forest due to the wisteria flowers. The rules are that they must survive seven days in the forest in order to pass the selection process. The two ushers point towards the entrance of the gate leading deep into the dark forest signaling the beginning of the Final Selection.

Kinoshita Hisoka

It was finally the day. This is the time she gets to prove herself worthy of the Breath of Shadow. Make Kusakabe proud. But still, she can't help but feel angry. Once again Muzan had taken someone precious to her. First her brother, and not too long ago, Kusakabe. She gritted her teeth, this is what she worked so hard for the past few years. She isn't gonna let anything come her way. She's gonna become a Demon Slayer.

Just like everyone else she was listening to the disturbing twins', at least she found them disturbing. It was weird for her how uncanny both look, but she heeded it no mind. Her haori was bright, a contrast to her hair and ability. People tend to not notice her whether she wants to or not. She was readying her blade, the one blade she received from her adoptive brother and trainer. She watched the other candidates as she waited for the ushers to let them in to the mountain.

The selection has started, every other candidates ran inside and she was the last to go in. She headed towards the right side of the forest, jumping through the trees. Choosing to be in the high ground rather than running with the others. Not like they'd notice her right away anyway. It has been a few hours and she was staying still at the same tree. Hisoka could hear footsteps and panting.

"Shit!" Someone shouted, she turned her head to the very direction and was met with a candidate running from the opposite direction. Fear was riddled in his eyes, she wondered that maybe it was his first time actually encountering a demon because that was how it looked like.

The demon appeared, he was twice the cowardly slayer's size. His arms were muscly, thrice a normal human's length. His sclera were bloody red while his pupils were white. She found him disgusting. None of them noticed her, not even the demon. "AHAHAHAHA!" His laugh felt like it was scratching her ears, for some weird reason his voice was somewhat high pitched and even worse it was really loud. "FINALLY! I'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE MY FILL."

That candidate is practically useless, he shouldn't have come here. Hisoka thought pensively watching the demon's mouth go wide as it held unto the young man. "You should've been more careful, demon." She said quietly after swiftly making her way from the back of the demon. It helps not knowing your enemy's name, saves you the guilt. She breathed deeply, feeling a surge of power throughout her body. "Breathe of Shadow," she moved her body into position. Only then did the demon started to take notice of her. "What the-"

"Third form, Creeping Shadow." She made five continuous slashes which formed an 'x' on the demon's back. The repeated slashes had made the wound deep, he was bleeding enough that it led to him weakening. "YOU!!" He let out before feeling the cool blade go through his neck flesh. He slowly faded into ashes while the young man was still shivering on the ground. "You should leave if you're not ready yet." She said with a weak smile before giving a cheery goodbye and went deeper into the mountain. Perched atop of a tree she wondered, how many will survive this trial.

Enoshika Sumihara
Location: Mt. Fujikasane
Interacting with:

"Remember, Sumihara, don't ever get hit."

It was a golden rule ever since she had started training with Airi. Never let anything hit you - because once it does, you've failed. Sumihara had to endure so many hits before she had finally gotten the hang of the Breath and even more until Airi was satisfied. Her last test with her consisted of out tricking a trickster which relied heavily on how well she can read Airi's movements. For every wrong move, Sumihara had to successfully dodge a hit or else suffer two more and so on. It was a cruel way to teach a child but there was always a reward at the end of it. Sometimes, Airi would cook her favorite food for her. Other times, she would get to wake up late for the next day - or if she did really well, a day off.

In any case, it had gotten her far. She was deemed fit for the Selection process. She remembered the tales of it from her older brothers - one of which had perished to the Selection. Apparently, he had decided to cover another entry's retreat and had perished in the process. The boy had come to them to personally apologize but the Enoshika family knew that Shuichi made his choice that day. After all, they were the users of the Breath of Iron and they use it to protect others from harm. They had mourned for the lost of a member and drank to his honor - Sumihara and her younger brothers were still not eligible to drink due to their status of still being in training so they simple watched - but the Enoshika family recovered and moved on. That's just how it is. Death was right beside them every step of the way in this profession.

The twins had begun talking and explaining what they had to do. Survive seven days atop the mountains with the demons that they had captured. You didn't even need to get a kill - you just had to survive. Sumihara was in no rush to enter and had sauntered inside. Her brother was somewhere inside this mountain as well, taking his own selection. He had bolted straight inside and provided minimal talk when they were on standby. He was only a year older but they had started training roughly around the same time. It would be nice to be able to work with him but sh doubted that Satoshi would grace her with his presence intentionally. They were here to take their own exams and-

"Breath of Trickery. First Form: Mirage." The shift was fluid but snappy as a demon barreled right through her afterimage much to the shock of it. She removed her katana from its sheath and moved into position, eyeing the demon. It cackled and taunted but the words fell on deaf ears. She hadn't moved from her position which only seemed to piss the demon off. It charged forward again, hunger overriding most of its logical processes. "Fourth Form: Afterimage." The demon clawed at an empty spot and it stopped, growling with anger before its head slid off its shoulders with Sumihara right behind it. As the demon began to dissolve, she placed her katana back in its sheath and dipped her head once at the demon. She disliked them but that didn't mean they weren't human once.

She wondered how many demons were inside the mountain and how many times they had to replenish it for the next batch of candidates. She adjusted her hold on her katana and moved forward again. They had seven days. She wondered how many and for how long will most of the candidates last. Death wasn't a rare thing after all. If you aren't prepared to give it your all for the selection, then you're facing certain death with only your fellow candidates to help you if they so wish - and they should; if they choose to ignore saving someone, then perhaps they are in the wrong profession. In any case, she needed to finish this. She had to prove that despite using another Breath technique, she could be on the same level as her brothers. Simple, right?

She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Simple." She muttered, knowing that it was a lie but one she had to make the truth out of.

Omori Izou

Izou had left early in order to arrive early to the exam site, though to his surprise he heard the voices of so many other aspiring demon slayers. Perhaps everyone felt the same way in arriving, he kept walking looking for a place to sit, hitting the ground to make sure he wouldn’t bump with anyone or anything. He knew that some would be confused as to how he had gotten here, but he knew that everyone was already nervous for the exam.

The moment he had found a place to sit, Izou heard the voices of what seemed to be a boy and a girl speaking at the same time, though they seemed similar and they probably looked similar, Izou was always able to tell the difference between male and female and both Demon and Human. He got back up and when they were told that the exam was going to begin, some wasted no time in entering, though Izou with his usual behaviour walked slowly to the forest.

As soon as he had made it far enough, he began sensing demons nearby. Of Course demons would go after him, who wouldn’t want to go after the blind and “defenseless” child. Izou pulled out his sword just as he heard footsteps. “Hey, are you also a Demon slayer?” Izou asked as he moved his attention to the one causing the sound.

“Oh yes, of course” The voice replied, giving away it was a demon. “Hey do you want to team up, it will increase our chances of survival.” Izou said relaxing and lowering his blade. “Of course, I’ll get closer.” The demon began to walk only to begin sprinting as it’s hunger got the best of it. “You Moron, Die.” The demon said as it took a lunge at Izou.

Remaining still relaxed, Izou took a deep and calm breath. “Breath of Void:first form.” Izou began walking towards the demon, just as the demon was about to rip Izou face open, Izou disappeared in the eyes of the demon, “Dammit where did he go?” the demon Questioned as it moved it’s vision around only to find the blind boy behind him walking away with a bloody Sword. “Empty Strike.” Soon after the head of the demon fell and it’s body dissolved with it.

“Dam, I should improve that, it felt sloppy.” Izou said to himself as he kept walking, “Welp at least it went well for the first time using it on a demon.” Izou swung his sword clearing it of the blood and sheathing it again tapping it in the ground to hit himself against any tree.

The wisteria were beautiful in the low light. Asuka wished she could pick some flowers and pin them into her hair, but it wasn’t the time and it didn’t seem fair to have something as a blatant ward for demons in the trial against them. Besides, she was here to prove herself, no help was required. Still her eyes lingered on the plumes, trailing only to rest briefly on the people near her. Their emotions were swelling in her chest, prickling at her skin. She could reach out, say that it’d be okay, but she would never know for sure. She wasn’t a prophet, the future remained unfinished. Tonight could be her last night.

At least I got to see the wisteria.

The hilt of her masters blade felt heavy in her hands, coarse and worn from use. Would the sword fail her tonight or would she fail herself? Even if she got past this night there was still always the next day, and the day after. No, she was letting the nervous people worm their fear into her head. Years had been dedicated to this, justice had been dedicated to this, her every waking thought and dream; all led her up to this. Unease stirred in her chest as the orientation finished and they were presented the open gate. Her feet were moving under her as the crowd surged, her footfall light as she was swept away with them into the darkness of the forest. She didn’t know how long she’d been running. The moon stood high in the sky, offering her little reassurance. Having lost the others taking part in the selection, she stopped for a moment. Catching her breath, Asuka glanced around in silence, feeling rather calm despite the situation. She couldn’t feel any nearby presences.

Moving once again, the peace couldn’t last for ever. In the distance, she could feel it. The faint sensation reminded her of being bloated. Combined with the mix of bloodlust, Asuka knew exactly what it was. Stepping carefully to not tread on sticks to make her presence known, Asuka approached. It hadn’t been too far away from her, she could see the demon devouring the fallen teen. What a shame. The hunched figure was to enamoured in stuffing its face to even realise she was approaching. “Breath of the Feather: second form.” She lunged forwards, smiling softly at the demon who snapped its head round to snarl at her a moment too late, “Gentle Breeze.” The slice was quick and precise, separating the demons body and head. It seemed surprised, laughing before realising what she’d done when it burst out into a fit of anger complaining about her and spouting abuse. The white haired girl ignored it, turning her attention to the dead instead after sheathing her blade. They should’ve never came here. The prayer that she uttered was small, but a prayer nonetheless. Now Asuka walked again, keeping a keen eye open for danger, wondering whether there’d be others like the one she’d found dead already.

Kit didn't bother to reach the meeting point early as so many others did. Getting their early wasn't going to give him any advantages or special treatment, it would simply mean he would have to wait for the damn thing to start for longer. So, he slept in, reaching the meeting place not too long before it was about to start, fully aware that most of the other candidates had already been present for a while now.

Yawning he leaned against one of the many wisteria trees. He didn't give the two twins much of his time. They spoke of what the trial was, just a simple survival mission, which meant he didn't have to listen to any more of their rambling on after that. He took this time to observe the crowd of recruits. Most of them he knew for a fact would not survive this. May it be from their clearly weak body structure or the fact that their face was filled with complete terror. This place would be their resting place. Why do such incompetent and weak people try something that will clearly lead to their deaths? If only they were smart enough to pick a different job or spend longer training, maybe then they would have had a long and fulfilled life.

Most people took off towards their resting place, however, Kit simply just walked his way over to the place. He would have seven days to kill the demons, they could wait in denial thinking they would live long for just a little longer, there was no need to rush into this, why not make it a slow and painful process? He walked through the woods leisurely, knowing full well the demons would come to him.

A wicked smile spread on his lips as the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Unsheathing his sword he quickly struck the demon flying towards him, "Third Form: Lord's Torment." he spoke simply as he watched in pleasure at the demons shocked face. It fell to the ground withering in agony as its body slowly became ash and faded into nothing.

Letting out a sigh Kit sheathed his sword and continued his walk, "What a simple task, is this really all that is needed to get into the Demon Slaying Corps." he asked in disgust to no one. If it was this easy maybe all the bafoons from earlier will get in, these demons were hardly anything compared to the true ones they would meet once they became real slayers. Kit only hoped that he'd get some actual demons to fight here.

While Mayumi certainly wasn't the type to be late to important things, she also couldn't stand waiting around for something. The anticipation would drive her mad, and as such she arrived at the entry gate almost precisely on time. The wisteria flowers were captivating to say the least, foliage like that didn't grow on streetlamps or apartment complexes back home, so the unfamiliar sight was one she appreciated.

Once she arrived at the gate, she immediately started to appraise the body temperatures of her fellow Slayer Corps hopefuls. The warmer their body, the more nervous they likely were which no doubt meant a low chance of survival for them. Remembering what her aunt and master had taught her about a Demon Slayer's role, she now felt obliged to keep them safe as best as she could throughout the week.

Guess I'm gonna be busy this week. She mused to herself, adjusting the shaft of her Nichirin spear so that it balanced evenly on her shoulders.

Once given the signal that the seven days had begun, she rushed off into the forest alongside a pack of visibly novice fighters, her grip on her weapon shifting to the middle as she looked around for demons. She was getting a frightful number of chilling sensations from the distant treeline, having never felt the cold presences of this many demons before in her life. When she heard a rustling of branches a fair distance away, she turned to see the source of the noise. A demon had plunged out of a tree onto an unsuspecting would-be slayer and pinned them down to the forest floor. The distance was too great for her to clear by running, but her weapon's length and her Total Concentration Breathing style would compensate for that.

Blizzard Breathing: Fifth Form... She inhaled as she changed up her grip, her hands now holding the back of her spear as she closed the gap between herself and her target. Her spear blade sliced through the stagnant evening air, and the wide sweeping attack severed the demon's body in two at the elbows. Biting Rime! While it wasn't a fatal attack, it did save a life and allow her to get in position to properly decapitate the demon. Once she was certain her target had decayed into ash, she helped the potential victim up onto his feet before darting off into the woods to pursue the other cold sensations she was experiencing.

"Anyone else need help!?" She called out with an adrenaline-fueled grin, more than fine with drawing the attention of any demons in the surrounding area. So long as they were all minor demons, she could handle even a crowd of them with ease, and if her words reached even a single pair of desperate ears, the risk would be more than worth taking.

Omori Izou

Some time had passed and to Omori’s surprise, he hadn’t been attacked anymore, perhaps demons were smarter than they looked, he thought, or perhaps a strong and powerful demon was nearby and no one dared to enter it’s territory. Omori pondered as he kept walking forward, “Hmm, yeah, that’s most likely it… unless.” He began picking up something, something familiar.

As Omori began walking towards the source of the smell, he recognized the way the individual walked and the attitude that he seemed to be giving off. “Ah, hi there fellow Slayer, it seems that you have been taking care of this area by yourself and by the sound of it you seem quite bored no?” Omori asked, “Well, if that’s the case, you wouldn’t mind having a chat with me correct? I can even prepare some tea for both of us, if you’d like since I doubt any demons will come to us now.”

Omori stopped walking and looked at Kit, waiting for a response. “Oh and my name is Omori Izou, what might yours be?”

Kit let out a sigh as he watched the demon before him scream in anguish as it faded into ash. Was this really all it took to become a demon slayer? Pillars must be nothing but people with a small brain and a sword. "tch, and I thought this would actually be a challenge..." sheathing his sword once again he was about to start walking when he felt something behind him. They weren't a demon, that was for sure, so that meant they were another one of the slayers.

Kit kept his hand dancing over the hilt of his sword as he waited for what was going to happen next. The person spoke, offering no ill intent in his words, Kit removed his hand from his hilt and turned to face the guy. He had no intention of trusting this person but judging as they were one of the other slayers they were most likly nothing special. Even if they tried to attack him they would most likly be as easy as these demons he had been fighting.

"My name is of no business to the people below me. Plus you are all nothing compared to my skills, I doubt you will even survive long enough for knowing my name to matter to you," he chuckled, speaking as he turned. However, he froze slightly as he noticed the guy's eyes. He wasn't frozen long before a burst of loud laughter burst from his chest. "Y-you're blind! Oh, it must have been sure utter luck you survived this long! You are even worse than these others, you will die the second a demon faces you! The slayer's corps must be absolute trash if they think people like you can try out! This selection is supposed to be proof we can join the corps and yet your master sent you here even when you are as weak as you are. Actually maybe they sent you here not because they thought you could pass but because they wanted you dead."

Kit whipped he tears from his eyes from laughing, turning away from the guy, "Stay away from me you trash, I have no time to waste on someone like you. Have fun dying in these woods." He chuckled again before he began to walk away. Maybe the blind boy would retort at him, or maybe he would attempt to attack him, that is if he could even find him. Maybe he would swing around the air in an attempt to slash Kit. Oh, it would be funny to see that.

Omori Izou

As Omori began to take out the cups of tea, he was taken aback by the rudeness of the individual. The insults he was being thrown were quite mean and inconsiderate, were these people the ones who would defend humanity against the demons? Omori thought as he began putting his things away.

“Oh well that’s just uncalled for, don’t you think.” Omori spoke to the other demon slayer. “I thought fellow demon slayers would be more considerate towards each other considering we fight for the same reason.” Omori began walking closer to the other slayer. “But, I suppose it’s just natural for some people to be this arrogant” Omori halted his movement and moved his head as if he were looking directly at the slayer. “I mean, from your voice alone and that attitude, I can tell you find this easy, don’t you? You probably ask yourself if this is all that it takes to be a demon slayer, probably undervaluing others, where it be fellow slayer or even demons… but in all honesty, that mindset of yours probably makes you more blind than me to the sad and cruelty of reality.”

Omori finally said as the smile he previously had faded away only to come back a few seconds later. “Anyway, I’m being serious, what’s your name, I won’t stop following you until I know it.” he said with his usual upbeat voice.

Kit's face held a look of surprise briefly when he noticed the Omori actually had a whole fucking tea set with him. Kit quickly let the surprise fade back into his asshole normal face, ignoring the 'what the fuck' that echoed in his mind at the sight. What happened next turned his already sour face into pure utter disgust. How dare this boy to lecture him on this world and his behaviour. Not only that but he began following him as he did so, the nerve of this worm.

He clenched his jaw in annoyance as the boy spoke, hoping he would just leave. That was until he mentioned how 'blind' kit was to the cruelty of reality. It made Kit want to laugh. Even after he lectured him Omori still insisted to know his name. Honestly, why did he have to get stuck with this guy? Not to mention he would sure as hell get in his way if a demon showed up. "You misunderstand me, it's not that I am inconsiderate towards you when you are fighting towards killing demons. I am fine with that, the problem is you are blind if you become a slayer you would only die. You would bring shame to the name of all demon slayers. I bet you can not even swing that sword you carry with you."

Turning swiftly to the boy he pointed his sword at him, "And don't you ever try to lecture me on reality again." with these things said he kept walking, "Also I am not going to tell you my name. You can follow me all you want." he began to walk faster after saying this. He hoped he could lose the boy or even that he would trip and fall on his face on some stupid root. That would not only give Kit the chance to lose the boy but would also be funny as hell.

As Kit walked his mind drifted back to the fact Omori was carrying a tea set with him during the final selection. Was it because the boy considered this thing a joke? It would explain why he also entered when he was blind. He glanced back at the boy while he was walking, it could surely only be luck that kept him alive at this point. He was a blind boy who carried around a tea set for god's sake. Not to mention how he is keeping that thing in one piece. Why couldn't Kit stop thinking of that damn tea set?

Omori Izou

It seems that giving the other slayer a lecture seemed to only work against him, as he felt the slayer pull out his sword and pointing it at him. Omori stopped and thought about how he could at the very least gain the other slayers respect perhaps he could beat him in a small skirmish? No that would make both slayers weaker and make the exam a lot harder, perhaps he could kill a demon and prove that he was indeed a capable slayer.

Just as he thought of that plan, he heard the footsteps of the other slayer and began to feel him walking farther and farther away. Omori quickly began walking trying to catch up to the other slayer who was walking faster, maybe he was trying to walk away so he would lose him? Omori kept walking avoiding the roots of the trees and any branches in his way.

In the distance, a demon stood on a tree, eating the remaining pieces of a dead demon slayer. It surveyed the area to look for it’s next target, and as it looked, it found two demon slayer together. “Oh what do we have here?” A smile formed in the demon's mouth as it finished eating the last piece. “It seems more and more slayers just come flocking to me. HOW FORTUNATE.” the demon stood up from the tree branch it was squatting on and grabbed the sword of the slayer it had just killed.

“Well, it seems you won’t be using this now.” The demon tightly grabbed the sword and descended onto the ground. The demon quietly began to approach both slayers to analyze its next prey and just as it did, it noticed one of them was blind. Oh how lucky can I be today, I’ll get two free snacks and one won’t even be able to resist. It smiled with malice.

Without wasting a second the demon cleared its throat and hiding behind a tree, it began speaking. “Hey, you wanna team up? We’ll have a higher chance of survival if we do.” The demon said using its blood demon art to replicate the voice of one of the slayers he had just eaten. “I’ll be coming to you guys so please be patient.”

Omori upon hearing the voice of one of the slayers, responded, “Oh hey, nice to meet you, I don’t think that other slayer will wait but I will.” Omori said sitting down in a comfortable position.

“Look and to even confirm that I’m a slayer and don’t get the wrong idea.” the demon began to hit the tree lightly with the sword he picked up. “Hear that? No need to worry.”

“Ok, you can come closer, maybe we can have some tea.” Omori responded in a trusting voice.

The demon grinned incredibly as it began walking to the boy, bit by bit increasing its speed bit by bit. However, the closer he got, the louder his footsteps became, as if, the are was becoming quieter, same thing happened to kit as his footsteps were becoming louder and louder, though the demon didn’t pay much attention to it, and once he was at a reasonable distance, he lunged at the defenseless blind boy sitting down using the sword to swing at him.

“Breath of Void...” Omori said as the demon moved the sword back preparing to strike. “Fifth Form: Absolute silence.” The area surrounding them had become almost completely silent, but that silence was broken when the sound of swords clashing was heard, Omori left an afterimage of himself sitting down and counter the attack of the demon with an attack of his own. Stunned, the demon felt a feeling it had only felt as a human FEAR, A feeling it knew too well, but was now being reminded off. Omori followed with a second strike, cutting of the demons head.

The Demon in anger began ranting at what kind of bullshit was that, how could a blind individual kill him. But just as the demon’s head began to fade, Omori grabbed it and tossed it into Kit’s direction while still not fading completely, “So… can you tell me your name now?”

Kit continued to frown as the blind boy clearly continued to follow him even at his speed. He had to admit at this point this boy was either lucky as fuck or he had a way to sense things without his eyes. It was entirely possible, Kit had something like this himself, definitely nothing that would allow him to sense things like roots and branches, but he could sense danger before it hit him. Like a sixth sense. This also worked in alerting him of demons, sensing the danger off of them.

So, of course, when the demon was behind them he was on his guard. The demon tried to pretend to them that it was a slayer, something most people in this selection actually wouldn't really be able to tell the difference of. Kit, of course, didn't stop to befriend the thing clearly trying to trick them, but the idiot he was with did. Just when he was thinking the boy might have some brain in his head, well after the thing kills him he can dispatch it he supposed.

As much as Kit would never admit it, his walking did slow a bit as the two conversed behind him, almost as if he didn't want to get too far from the boy if something were to happen. Kit narrowed his eyes, easily picking up the volume of his feet. Was it the outside noises were getting quieter or his footsteps getting louder? He frowned(x10000) at this, was this something the blind boy could do?

He heard Omori speak familiar words out loud, the sound of a slayer technique. That wasn't what shocked him, the silence that followed was what confused him. He cast a gaze behind him at this time, watching as the blade sliced through the demon's neck easily. So he could really still fight even when he was blind. He continued walking after this, raising his eyebrows as Omori through the head at him. Kit easily stepped out of the way of the head watching it roll for a brief moment before it completely faded. The boy of course once again asked for Kit's name. He glanced back at the boy, glancing up and down him.

He had to admit he was impressed, even if it was the slightest. Omori could still fight even if it was just a simple demon. He could fight while blinded, something that did, in fact, impress Kit. Kit let out a sigh before continuing walking. Even if he was impressed he wasn't going to just give his name up after all that fuss he made. "Like hell, that was just a small demon, you want to impress me do something more impressing." he huffed, ignoring the smile that danced on his lips.

Omori, waited for the response, hoping that now the other slayer would say his name, but to his dismay, the other slayer simply disregarded it, claiming it wasn’t that impressive as the demon was a weak one, at least Omori could tell that the other slayer didn’t look at him like a pathetic weak excuse for a demon slayer. That made Omori smile a bit, “Well, I suppose you are right in a sense… so, how about we stick together for a bit longer until we find a stronger demon, in which case I can take it down, you tell me your name, and then we can have a conversation and get to know each other a bit more, y’know, like potential friends and pals would.”

Omori said as he began walking up to the other slayer, “Well, only if you want to look at it that way, I know you are playing hard to get, so instead, how about, me sticking with you, is more like a sort of alliance, you take out a demon and I take out the next, you know, like a duo.” He said hoping to maybe get the other slayer to agree, so he could potentially turn him into his friend.

Kit rolled his eyes at the blind boy, "You can do whatever ever you want I don't really care." he huffed but made no move to get rid of the boy. He rolled his eyes as he remembered what the boy had said, the two of them becoming friends. That was only if the Omori survived the final selection. As he thought this he briefly remembered the demon the boy had just beaten and the thought that maybe, just maybe, Omori would really pass.

Kit shook this thought out of his head as quickly as it came. The demon was probably just really weak, that is why. It had to be. Kit ignored how that even if it was weak a normal blind person wouldn't have been able to defeat it and kept on walking, "If you are going to follow me around on the quest to learn my name you might want to hurry up or else you'll be left behind." he spoke up in a teasing tone.

As he continued to walk he kept on thinking of how the boy wanted to be friends with him. Could that really happen? It'd been so long since he'd made a friend, the last one would have been his master. If he could even call her a friend. He had spent most of his time with her since he had left his village. Even when he did have to go get supplies for them from towns or buy something he never became close with any of the townsfolk. Not to mention he'd never want to be friends with someone who is weak. There was no point in getting attached to someone only to have them die.

Kit sighed, glancing around, it was really strange that the only demon they had run into in all this time was that singular demon. Was it that they were close to where another slayer had already slain a bunch of demons or was there something about the place they were in that made them not want to gather here. There was also the least likly option that they had just gotten really lucky thus far. Either way, he couldn't let his guard down, not to mention he didn't fully trust that blind boy. He could at any chance attack him to further his own gain or even abandon him when they were attack demons. He couldn't trust him to fight alongside him.

Omori Izou
Omori smiled a bit as the other slayer now seemed a bit friendlier than before, maybe now he trusted him more, but whatever the case was, Omori knew that he had made some progress. This had reminded him of when he tried to befriend his master. The man had saved his life and trained him to become a slayer, but Omori could always tell that his master always had the feeling that Omori might not make it very far, considering he lacked one of the most important things for most creatures to survive, sight. But even then his master persisted and trained him, even having that thought in his head and other slayer beginning to question him why he would do it, he would always respond with. "I have faith in the kid."

Before Omori could remember the good memories he had with his master, he heard the other slayer resume his walking once more and so Omori walked towards him again. "Hmmm, don't you find it weird that we aren't finding any more demons?" Omori said, "Well, we can begin looking for some, or maybe we could wait here, perhaps hide and stuff and then I could make us some tea." Omori suggested. "Oh wait, sorry, I shouldn't have said that, you rejected my offer for tea, so you might not like it, I'll make sure to not mention it again." Omori said realizing the mistake he had made repeating a suggestion he had that the other slayer didn't seem to like.

Kit nodded at Omori's comment, it was pretty strange that the demon numbers had dwindled to almost nothing as they moved in this direction. It made Kit on edge, he was not going to let any demon jump him. Or maybe there really wasn't any demons nearby. It frustrated him that he couldn't tell if he needed to be on edge or if he had no reason to be. Letting out a 'tch' he angrily ran his hands through his hair, pulling the strands as he thought.

When Omori quickly jumped to an apology at his mistake Kit couldn't help himself but let out a small snort. Though Kit would never admit it this interaction did help him calm down a bit, helping him forget his frustration momentarily. He ran his hands through his hair one more time, this time for the purpose of fixing his hair, before letting his hands fall down to his sides. Actually he could go for a cup of tea right now... not that he would ever admit that, and he honestly didn't think it was the time or place for that.

"For future reference, so you stop bothering me I do like tea, but I don't eat on missions, and even if I did, this isn't the time or place," he spoke, keeping his usual annoyed tone clear in his words. "On another note, I think we should keep moving, I don't think sitting and waiting is a good-" Kit was cut off by a gust of wind blowing through the two of them. Kit quickly turned to where the wind came from, the trees to the left of them cleaved in two.

There stood a demon, but he was not the cause of the wind. It was a girl with a large sword, one much larger than the normal ones that demon slayers carry. It was actually a wonder to Kit if she could even fight properly with that hunk of a thing. The demon however made Kit's hands shake slightly, the feeling it gave off, this demon clearly had killed many humans in its life. This demon was no joke no matter how you sliced it.

The 7-foot thing turned its head, it's movements jerky and uncomfortable as if it were a skeleton. It glanced at the two of them that now stood behind it. You could see the skin peeling off its face now that it faced the two of them. Behind the cloth on its face it smiled widely, it's sunken eyes dancing with delight. "More food this day is simply an amazing one. I can't wait to tear your muscles off your bones.~" It hummed in delight as cracked one of the sets of hands. It continued this many times, the bones cracking like a fire every time it pressed on the bones, to the point it was completely impossible that the fingers should still be cracking.

Rentii looked down at the human numbly as she lay dead, her heart held loosely in his small hand. She thought that she could take him on easily. He was only 4'10 and looked clearly like a little kid to anyone. However, if she had been a good slayer she would have been able to see the distinct sense of a demon who has slain countless humans. His numbers hadn't reached the hundred mark yet, but he was extremely close to that number. He was far more dangerous than the other demons nearby him. SHe would have had more of a chance if she decided to try and attack one of those.

Letting out a bored sigh he cut his palm, dripping the blood on the heart. "Blood Demon Art: Call to arms." with the words said the heart began to morph, Rentii dropping it as soon as this process began. The heart morphed into a skeletal creature with the face of a spirit. The heart sat cozily in the chest cavity as the thing wordlessly stared at Rentii waiting for instructions. Rentii rolled his eyes before beginning to walk. The thing picked up its sword of the fallen slayer and began to follow him, 4 more of the minions that had been behind him at this time also followed him, leaving behind their dead corpses.

It was a shame they rotted so quickly or he would have been able to have an army by his side. He raised an eyebrow as he heard a girl ask if anyone needed help. She was the one who had followed this group. While she protected some of them the others had fought his minions and he slowly moved them away from her. The ones who needed help from her were already long dead.

He approached her, stopping a few feet away from the woman, his minions standing beside him their bones jittering as they came to a stop. "I think you should stop worrying about these useless people and start focusing on helping yourself." He said dryly. She was clearly more skilled than the others she was trying to protect, she had absolutely no reason she should be helping them. They were so below her, she should be using them so she could just sit back and rest, to be honest. Humans really are such stupid creatures.

Estrian face twisted into pure anger as he saw the singe dot of blood on his hand. He turned his rage down to the body below him, a slayer he had just killed, and spat down on it. "How DARE you get your filth on my skin," he began to kick the already dead body, "You trash, you absolute worthless piece of shit!" he kicked it again and again until the face of the person became unrecognizable. Blood coated his shoe causing another noise of disgust.

Taking out the handkerchief in his pocket he easily cleaned the blood off himself. He threw the now soiled fabric on the ground next to the body. With himself now clean Estrian straightened his suit, making sure there wasn't a hair out of place on his body. Once perfect again Estrian felt calm once again, at peace with his now perfect appearance. His attention turned from his perfection to the sweet smell of prey that blew gently towards him.

Another filth daring to walk on his perfect soil? How dare that imperfect being think that it could walk on his home so easily. It was unforgivable, they would have to be punished for their actions. Hissing under his breath he began to stalk over to where the slayer was, making sure not to hit his antlers on anything especially since he already stood at the impressive height of 6'0 making it easy to hit his horns.

Despite this, the demon did not hit his horns once when he was walking, he was to perfect to make mistakes such as that. He landed gracefully in front of the female slayer, his form perfect as always. "You there, stop at once. Who gave you permission to walk on my perfect ground so easily? You imperfect being, what right do you have to be here where me, a perfect being, lives." he spoke in disgust as he glared at the girl.

Mayumi's blood ran cold almost in an instant, the biting chill of a high-level demon confronting her like a sudden snowstorm. Once she had a visual on the demon, she immediately halted her footsteps and shifted her grip to the front of her weapon. Upon hearing Rentii's words, her steely expression turned to one of confusion and a laugh escaped her lips moments later. "Sorry, bud, no can do. That just isn't the kind of gal I am." She said with a confident smirk, her demeanor seemingly unfit for the grim scenario she found herself in.

While she didn't seem to be the most serious of people, he could tell that she was studying him as she spoke. Her eyes rapidly darted around her surroundings in search of useful terrain or any ambush attacks that she couldn't sense the temperature of for whatever reason. Whether it was a deliberate act of misdirection or that was just simply the way that she was remained ambiguous. Either way though, she was intensely determined to stop this heart-taker from killing any more.

"It's kinda rude to assume I'm so weak that I need others to fight and die for me. If you can't win without sacrificing people, that doesn't sound very strong at all." She spoke matter-of-factly, her words seeming to be targeted at the demon's reliance on minions to fight and win. That didn't mean she was underestimating him or his ability by any means, but anyone became worse at fighting once someone had gotten under their skin. Even if her words only made Rentii's minions just a bit clumsier than normal, she would gladly take advantage of that slight weakness.

"Hmm... he dodged my Awakened Dragon..."

The bells on Tsubaki's hairpins chimed delicately as she dragged the hulking sword behind her, leaving a deep gouge in the ground. Leaves and broken branches rained down upon the battlefield, creating a patchwork carpet of broken green. The sharp scent of sap stung the air, bleeding out of the fresh stumps of the trees behind the demon. Either way, Tsu had never met a creature that could withstand such a blow.

She could see the beast smiling, which saddened her, and the two people it was grinning at; two boys with swords. Other trainees like herself. Tsubaki made a slight bow towards them, its elegance somewhat dampened by the giant sword at her side.

"Excuse me, gentlemen, but might I ask for your assistance?" she called with a nonchalant air, as if discussing the weather over a cup of tea, "This demon is quite extraordinary!"

The attack had taken a lot out of her, even if the only thing to show it was her breathing and sweat on her brow. This demon was truly dangerous, which was why she had to go on the defensive for now. If she could distract it successfully then maybe the others could strike it. Then again, the demon was quick enough to dodge the awakened dragon. If anything, she had to make sure it attacked her and not the others.

Tsubaki turned back to the demon. "As for you, sweet demon, you still have not given me your name! Please do not be rude, I really would love a proper introduction!" As she spoke she returned her sword into its bulky sheath, which she leaned on. "Come now, I would much prefer that we converse!"

It was no lie. All throughout the fight, she had been trying to talk with the demon, see if any humanity remained, but she saw nothing. The malicious bloodlust had remained steadfast. It was why she had chosen to awaken the dragon at last, as a mercy, but it appeared her foe was a lot more resilient than expected.

Omori Izou

As the other slayer said to Omori that he in fact liked tea, Omori had decided to take out the equipment only to put it away as the slayer didn’t want to eat or do anything remotely interesting. As he did Omori felt a powerful gust of wind travel near him which ended up cutting one of the trees behind him, this quickly made him put his hand on the hilt of his blade.

Omori wondered what that gust of wind was all about, had it been produced from an object that was thrown? No, because then he’d feel the vibrations of the object. Another option would be a wind slash which he had been told about by his master, which made a lot more sense, but before he could really think about it he felt too the presence of two more individuals. One a female slayer, probably responsible for the slash and an unsettlingly powerful demon which took Omori by surprise.

Just as Omori began pulling out his sword, the female slayer asked for any possible assistance against the demon, even referring to it as extraordinary. “Well, I’ll gladly help, however, can any of you two just give me a quick description of important features of the demon, I don’t want to attack the demon completely blindly.” Omori said as a sort of joke, even chuckling a bit.

“So… what is like the general plan here, I mean, we beat him 3 to 1, but I doubt that it will be an easy fight as both of you can tell.” Omori remarked as it began circling the demon at a safe distance. “Well, first I’d like a description before trying anything, so that would be most appreciated.” Omori said as he also grabbed his sheath tightly with his left hand as a sort of second sword.

Kit had felt a little prickle at the back of his neck a few seconds before the wind had come. Tne prickle didn't alert him of danger at first, but once the wind had blown his neck hair flared up. A demon, one who had killed many humans in its disgusting life. Kit quickly turned around to face it, his blade ready in his hand. His eyebrow raised at the sight of another slayer who had been fighting the demon. She had been the one to cast that gust of wind not the demon, interesting. She must be powerful, maybe not all of the slayers trying out will be complete garbage this year.

He rolled his eyes, running a hand down his face at Omori. He had to be joking. Kit winced as he was confirmed that he was not in fact joking. Cursing under his breath in annoyance, he gripped his hilt with rage, "Really, and you call yourself a slayer. Maybe I was right to think that you just got passed this test so far out of pure luck." he spoke in annoyance. An image of Omori fighting flashed in his head briefly causing Kit to let out a sigh, "Fucking hell... He has six arms, tall, and has some bone armour on him, looks like just for decoration. He also feels like a demon who has consumed a lot of humans, be careful." he spoke, blush dusting his cheeks, "And I did not do this to help you so don't you dare take it the wrong way. I just don't want to have to clean your blood off my clothing." he defended himself before turning back to the demon.

"So adorable, I can't wait to see your face as I tear apart your friend here~" Kit let out a 'tch' in disgust at the demon, "He isn't my friend." he hissed out, his eyes hard with bloodlust. "Whatever you say little lamb~" letting out a grunt of anger Kit dashed towards the demon, readying his blade, "First form: Demon's Claws." he sliced at the demon three times. Each one was gracefully dodged by the demon, one managed to scratch his side ever so slightly, but nothing deep enough. "Lambs shouldn't attack the lions unless they want to get eaten." the demon purred before punching Kit in the gut.

Kit let out a hack as all the air was knocked out of him. The demon then grabbed him and threw him at a tree. Kit managed to flip himself around in the air and brace himself with his feet. He landed back on the ground safely. His knee almost touched the ground as he struggled to remain to stand, but out of sure will power he kept it up, his breaths shaky as he tried to regain his breathing, ignoring the sharp pain that hit his chest with each breath. "Oh and my little doe, the lion does not concern itself with the opinion of sheep. You don't deserve to hear my name." Kit seethed in rage at the demon. He wanted to rip it apart. He wanted to kill it, "Are you two going to sit there or do something?" he hissed out.

Rentii rolled his eyes at the girl. So clique, so boring. But when it came down to how well those words would be put into play, she'd fall apart as every human did. No matter how hard she tried to hide it, her life was more important to her than anyone else. She could pretend to be the hero all she wants but Rentii knew the truth, he had seen it so many times. So many want to be slayers willing to abandon their friends for the sake of their own lives.

At her comment of only the weak needing minions to fight for them to survive Rentii let out a laugh, "You foolish woman, the strong do not need to waste their time fighting the weak. That is why they get others to fight for them." her views were so predictable. The same views that always fell apart as he ripped them apart. She would not be any different from the others, her ideals meant nothing to her in the end.

Letting out a sigh he yawned into his hand, "If only you had been smarter, maybe you would have passed this exam." with that said Rentii nodded, the minions let out a screech of joy at the permission they were given before charging at the girl. If the girl tried to hit them they would display the faces of those who possessed the body, they would beg to be spared. They would beg for her not to kill them.

Rentii leaned against a tree as he waited for this to be over. This girl had proven to be stronger than the others she had tried to protect. She would most likly make a much better minion than the others. He wondered, should he play with her a little first before he took her heart? Watch her ideals turn to ash as she gave them up to try and keep herself alive? That would be an interesting sight. Especially since she was acting like they were so important to her. Rentii decided to see her fight for a little, maybe she would fall apart even before he got the chance to mess with her personally.

"Smartness is whatever. I'm just not really about the idea of dying to some unranked, nobody demon. It's not Hashira-like."
Mayumi said with a soft chuckle, a fierce determination to her words as she finished formulating a plan of action. She gritted her teeth a bit as she tightened her hold on her spear, her stance and grip shifting to the middle of her weapon. Her lackadaisical demeanor seemed to not be going anywhere as she quickly darted around the mob of Rentii's minions in a wide arc. While certainly not discounting them as a threat, she figured that they'd crumble to ash with their creator, so trying to cut them down would be a waste of time. There were no other living people around her that she needed to protect either, so that was a macabre advantage in its own right. She could focus solely on Rentii.

Mayumi wasn't the kind of person to boast idly in an attempt to play up her strength and status, though the constant self-assurance did wonders for her confidence and ability to perform under pressure. Blizzard Breathing was a combat philosophy which brought with it a particular worldview, a mentality of persuading oneself that a given situation was survivable no matter what. While snow itself is ultimately an impermanent and ephemeral thing, snowfall during a blizzard is inexorable and continues until the weather itself decides to stop. Even if she was broken, bloodied, and covered in deep cuts, so long as she could muster up one more breath and keep the snow falling, she was alive and could continue the fight.

Omori Izou

Waiting for a response Omori kept walking slowly around the demon, and just as he did the Slayer gave him a response. “Ok, thanks, but to clear things out, I can tell he is tall and has six arms, however I sometimes can’t tell if the demon has multiple eyes, the material of armors, basically minor details like color and such, which in the end would help out in determining what I would need to-.” Omori was cut off as he sensed the slayer jumping at the demon, only to be kicked into a tree.

Before Omori could do anything he heard the slayer bark out in pure rage and anger calling both of them out for just standing idle and analyzing the situation. “Don’t worry, I wasn’t planning on standing here all night.” Omori responded with a joking tone only to immedietly begin heading towards the demon with his arms completely relaxed, “Breath of Void, First form, Offensive Empty strike.” Omori almost immediately slashed aiming at the demons neck as he was approaching him, though he didn’t expect it to work as breath of void wasn’t the most offensive form and he still wasn’t used to an offensive version of the first form.
