With the nature of his blood lusting sword, Dane takes it quite well. He casts jokes around as if they were scented air. They always help improve a situation or help him to feel at ease. In truth, Dane feels apprehensive about his future. His uncle and anyone who touches the Ebony blade stirs worry inside him. All of them succumbed to the corruption of the blade. Despite the darkness looming over him, Dane does his best to be a good man. While he stumbles and fails often, Dane picks himself up to live a better day. He often finds solace in music. Especially that of his lute, a skill passed down through generations. It eases his nerves and reminds him that music can help him when he is feeling overwhelmed. Not to say he is small, but he is rather courageous, daring things no one else will for the greater good. Dane wants to right the wrongs of his family, to show that the knights of old live today.
Equipment:
- Dane is a normal man behind the armor, powerless. His abilities come from the sword The Ebony blade, which allows him to:
1. Teleport it to wherever he is.
2. Cut through any normal substance
3. Cut through magical barriers
4. Emit powerful blasts of dark energy.
The blade cannot harm its owner, nor can it break by normal means. The blade does have a curse though; through the ages, with the amount of blood it has taken, the blade has become tainted, lusting for death. If the user is not careful, they will become a pawn to the weapon, corrupted beyond recognition.
- Amulet of Avalon: With this amulet, Whitman can summon his armor. It can be slightly altered, but remains in the same fashion of medieval armor. The armor is said to be nigh impenetrable.
- Shield of Night: mythic shield capable of absorbing any kind of energy. It is said to be indestructible & protect from most harm.
- Sword of Light: brilliant white blade able to use any energy the shield of night has absorbed. The blade emits light naturally.
- Owns a flying horse named Aragon
Skills:
- Scientific engineer: Before becoming the black Knight, Dane was a professor who studied physics. From this, he has been able create numerous weapons
- Expert swordsman: through the generations, his family has kept the tradition of training their children at a young age with the sword.
Weaknesses:
- While the armor and weapons can protect him, he is still human. Dane can be electrocuted, poisoned, or any other forms non-attack related.
- The ebony blade is his strongest weapon, yet the more he attacks with it, the more it pulls him into villainy. Thus his greatest fear.
- His armor, while strong, is not indestructible. It can be damaged by many attacks or strong medals (uru, vintanium, etc) it will slowly heal, but only after going back into the amulet.
- While the sword & shield can absorb many forms of energy, it can be overloaded. It drains strength from the user as it takes on forms of energy, making each absorbing & attack weaker with each strike
Backstory:
Born to a family of prominent wealth, Dane Whitman studied physics in his youth. The subject always opened the doors to new ideas as well as new concepts to be learned. Life came easy to him when he had both the money and intelligence to excel in anything he picked up. Swordplay was especially easy alongside the learning of the lute. As he grew older, Dane was told the legends of Camelot by his family, who always claimed to be descended from one of the knights of the round table. Of course, Dane thought this amusing as they were only legends.
Dane used his love for science as a profession, going into researching and development of new technologies. This was only to fill his boredom and curiosity. It was around this time that Dane was shown his families' heritage from his uncle, Nathan Garret. The man had picked up the mantle of Black Knight whilst becoming a powerful villain. Only in his later years when he was disabled did he confess his crimes. By then, it was too late for Nathan; he had already tainted the name, but Dane. Dane could right his wrongs, be a better person than he.
At first, Dane did not believe it to be true. As time went on, the signs were all around him; the genealogy, the mythical castle his family owned, and the lady in the lake. It was her kind words, her offers of hope that Dane took on the mantle of Black Knight. Through her, Dane was able to speak with his ancestor, Sir Percy, the first Black Knight. From him, Dane was blessed to become the new Black Knight as well as given the Avalon Amulet to do good.
Creating a new central base at his family's castle, Castle Garret, Dane begins his life as the heroic Black Knight. He would be the protector of Avalon, the realm of Camelot & other Celtic myths. While he is not overly fond of magic, Dane has no choice in the say. He assumes that every magical spell can be traced to some scientific conclusion.
