Med Bay K has suffered a complete systems failure. Power losses are sporadic across all decks, but here, it's constant. We've rerouted twice. Nothing holds.
They're changing. One by one. Whatever this is—infection or parasite, maybe? I don't know. It's fast. Brutal. Infection vector is unknown. Symptoms vary, but the aggression is immediate. Lethality is off the charts.

Tanaka was the first. We lost him after exposure to some type of corrosive fluid from one of the cadavers. It came from the installation, and we hadn't even logged it yet. It wasn't human. The acid ate through his gloves in seconds. Full arterial burn before we could even prep the medgel. I watched it melt the cot clean through.

He coded out. Minutes later, he got back up. He wasn't Tanaka anymore. Just movement. And p̵̲͖͙̒ų̶͚̝͆̔͗r̸̦̂̑ͅͅp̶̨̟̖̄̀̄o̴̜͈̾͠ş̷̟̒̌̓e̷̗̣̚. He didn't stumble. He looked at Jworchs. Then he went for him. Tore him apart like it had been waiting for the chance.
And it wasn't just Tanaka. The people we've been treating...They're not reacting like it's meningoencephalitis. They're listening. Coordinating. I think something else is down here with us. Or in them.

We've had two Neuro Injectors fail. Containment's gone. Half the patients were unresponsive. The rest...I really don't think are h̴̥͒́ü̸͕m̷̔ͅạ̷͑̋ͅǹ̶̖̺ ̷͖̬͗̽â̷͕͛ṇ̴͊͒y̵̜͌̕m̷͔̰̈́o̵̡̳͗̀r̶̖̎e̵̗̍̇.
We've lost the wing. Most of the team knows it. Some are still holding positions. I...I'm trying. I don't know what protocols apply anymore. I haven't heard anything from the Bridge, and NIMIS is unresponsive, so I'm sending this as a mayday from here. Who knows what they have to contend with up there or if anybody is left.

If you're still alive and hear this—stay out of Sector K. It's a dead zone. If you can reach auxiliary power, lock down and stay there. Avoid open corridors. Evac—

A scavenger cruiser intercepts a fragmented distress signal from a long-lost colony seed vessel—its massive hull now resting silently on the surface of an uncharted, uninhabited world. For crews like this one, derelict wrecks offer easy credits: salvage, scrap, data cores, sometimes even functioning cryo-units. But this ship is no simple freighter. It’s a generational vessel—built to carry thousands of pioneers across the stars to seed new colonies. A find like this could mean retirement. A fortune.

But what waits inside isn't wreckage. Not entirely.
The power's been cut. Most systems are offline. The personnel are gone.
And something else is here.
Something hostile.
Something trapped and waiting.

Hello.
To whoever may still be reading this—thank you. My name is Fain, and I’m searching for a writing partner interested in a slow-burn science fiction horror story about isolation, discovery, and the quiet (and sometimes not-so-quiet) terror of being watched.

This story, Echo of Descent, will unfold in arcs—each focused on mystery, survival, and the slow unraveling of an alien presence. I have over a decade of experience in writing and collaborative storytelling, but for this project, I’m trying something a little different. I want to take on the role of a narrative guide, more akin to a Game Master than a traditional co-writer. I won’t be writing a main character of my own. Instead, I’ll shape the world, steer the scenarios, control NPCs, and build the tension around you.

You’ll take on the role of the main character, or a small team, if you prefer, exploring the wreck, making choices, uncovering secrets, and surviving whatever it is that’s trapped in the dark. For example, if your character accesses a terminal, I’ll write the personnel file they find. If they search a cargo bay, I’ll describe the environment, what’s out of place, what’s watching.

What excites me most about this format is the mystery it allows. Horror thrives on the unknown—and something is always lost when both writers know what’s around the next corner. This format preserves that suspense. That being said, I still want this to feel collaborative. Your ideas, your creativity, and your instincts for character and worldbuilding are not only welcome—they're essential. The story moves because of your character’s choices, and I want you to feel ownership of the journey we craft together.

If that sounds like your kind of story, I’d love to hear from you.
About Me
- Call me Fain or Faint Signal if you prefer
- I am an older person (29+)
- I will write between 300-1200 words in my posts. For this story, it really depends on what's happening at the time.
- I will try to post once a week minimum, but there will be times that I am busy and can't do that.
- I am very awkward in the public forum; I will (hopefully) be cool when we talk in person.
- I do not and will not communicate anywhere else besides on this site (no Discord)
- I abide by RpN rules. That means no erotic content. People are literally going to get torn apart, faces melted, and killed. The fire of a burning corpse isn't the best mood lighting.
- I would really like to roleplay this in the forums. Pretty Please? We may have the need for multiple threads in the future, and I like to keep my options open. I am fine with OOC being in DMs. (Negotiable)
- I will BBCode and may share thematic music every once in a while. I dig the aesthetic.
About You
- Be an adult (21+ preferred; 18+ is non-negotiable for my comfort)
- Be patient. I sometimes will take a while to reply. If you are looking for posts daily, you won't get them from me.
- Write in 3rd person.
- Be okay with gore, violence, 'bad words', and possibly horrifying scenarios. Please provide me with a list of triggers and horror no-gos before we begin, so we both have safe and healthy boundaries with one another.
- Be flexible in your writing. I would really love for this to be advanced to literate in roleplay style. (Quality over quantity) Give me your flowery prose, meander through the waning sanity of a character, or describe in great detail what it felt like to stab the shit outta that guy...I love it all and will judge none of it. Given the format of our story, I know it is likely that we won't always have lengthy posts.
- Really love science fiction. I mean if you foam at the mouth for media like: Alien, Dead Space, Signalis (IYKYK), The Thing, etc. (all things you can probably tell Echo of Descent takes inspriation from), or the idea, vibe, and aesthetic of worlds built like that, I think we'll be good partners.
- Be okay with the fact that there might not be romance in this story ever, and if there is, it will take a very long time to get to a point where it could even happen.
I believe that should just about cover it. Due to my time and inspiration, I can only reasonably take one partner for this plot. So, if you are interested, I ask that you send me a DM with an introduction so we can determine if we're a good fit for one another.
