Parameters for Characters:
The current world is bleak; with the remaining hero forces diminished by President Osborn's passing laws against vigilantism and his pressure to combat the growing amount of mutants.

The world currently:

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters has been reclaimed by the federal government and from Headmistress Jean Grey's hands. It is now New York State Treatment Facility for Mutant Youth, more akin to a juvenile detention than a school to hone one's abilities. The students here are trained and experimented on in order to diminish or eliminate their powers entirely. As far as the general public knows, it's preventing future supervillans. When it comes to the reputation among other heroes, mutants and sympathetic circles, it is a compulsory prison.

Norman Osborn is now President Osborn, after a sweeping victory at the polls two years ago. His son, Harry Osborn runs the company.

The Avengers are disbanded, and were since the near defeat with Ultron. SHIELD is technically a pawn of President Osborn's, but original and loyal members have gone into hiding and operate underground. Of the Avengers, Steve Rogers, Dr. Stephen Strange, Tony Stark, and Thor Odinson (for now) are dead. Any other members can be killed at a player's discretion, gone missing, or stay alive and around completely. These four are canonically gone from our timeline. Iron Fist is also dead, in case anyone was curious. If there are any questions, please ask!

The Young Avengers, or our group of sidekicks, parted ways five years ago. All could have chosen to leave the state entirely before restrictions rose, or could have returned to complacent citizenship. You may also continue your vigilante or hero efforts underground. Know that all eyes are on you, and you are on a watch list.

The X-Men are also disbanded, and have suffered the most casualties of all the groups. Many were killed in the Ultron attack, and many others have gone missing, with fear that they have been taken captive and experimented on by one of the various science groups under the President's thumb. Known alive members, albeit in hiding on a small island named Krakoa off the Pacific Ocean, are Jean Grey, Magneto, Mystique, Emma Frost, Storm, as well as the New Mutants and some other students that they managed to escape with. Scarlet Witch and her twin brother Quicksilver lead the Brotherhood of Mutants, who's numbers are unknown but they are in hiding as well. Other X-men who aren't mentioned are considered dead or somewhere in hiding. Names not mentioned can be negotiated as alive or dead, as per the player's discretion.

The Future Foundation suffered the least casualties, but the significant death of Johnny Storm already caused quite the fracture. The Fantastic Four of course, are not in operation as heroes. Everyone has resumed their scientific duties, and are sympathetic to mutants and their fellow heroes. Peter Parker is a scientist there, or was, as he has gone off the radar.

New York is highly monitored and the security in and out of the state has been ramped up. Aside from Norman's Liberators' a group who's identities remain hidden for now, his Sentinel Program monitors the streets with small drones that patrol, seeking out any signs of unknown energy, unknown activity or possible mutant activity. Public reception on the president is mixed, but everyone can agree that the streets have been 'safer' from massive destruction since, and petty crime has mysteriously lowered in reported crimes. It has not been eliminated completely, but known offenders seem to have disappeared completely off the streets...

THE ROLES
THE LEADER. First to defend, and last to concede, the leader was somebody marked by passion and ambition. They always had an infectious sense of courage in the face of the burden weighing on their shoulders.

ELI BRADLEY, Taken by: fin fin

THE PRODIGY. Ever the competitive spirit, the prodigy worked tooth and nail for their recognition. Categorized as somebody ever sure of themselves, deep down, they struggle with feelings of doubt about their own competence.

VIVENNE STRANGE, Taken by: BELIAL. BELIAL.

THE REBEL. The rebel has never done well with rules. Accustomed to being their own authority, their lethal methods aren't always praised by their colleagues. They see things clear, right and wrong, and are willing to do what it takes to punish wrong.

Taken by: Open.

THE CREATOR. Learned and well-educated, the creator is gifted with exceptional intelligence. They are have an ambitious curiosity that threatens to surmount their sense of ethics.

Taken by: Open.

THE WARRIOR. The warrior is a fierce and loyal individual that hails from another world. They are more experienced with bloodshed than the rest, and will do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of their comrades, and the Earth.

Taken by: Open.

THE JOKESTER. In the face of danger, the joker is seemingly at ease and in their own world. They provide a sense of lightheartedness amidst calamity, although sometimes ill-timed. The Jokester battles with something important in their personal lives.

Taken by: Open.

THE GUARDIAN. Usually the most level-headed sidekick, the guardian doubles as the mediator. They have a way with words, and the scalpel, as they tend to wounds both physical and mental. Sometimes, at the cost of their own health.

Taken by: Open.

THE OUTSIDER. The only one who might not be recognized is the outsider. Not a sidekick, not a hero, not even present when Sokovia was forced into the skies. The outsider is a completely new face that found their way into the mix of things.

Taken by: Open.

THE INNOCENT. The youngest of the group, the innocent was most marked by the events that happened five years ago. Their naivete and optimism was both a weakness and a strength for the team. They looked up to the Leader greatly.

Taken by: Open.

THE MAVERICK. The maverick was skilled, and exceptionally so; though their arrogance and recklessness was what most people remembered of them. They were fiercely independent and recognized the unorthodox qualities to life.

Taken by: Open.

CHARACTER CREATION RULES
1. Applications are not first come first serve, so feel free to go for whatever role you'd like. Try to keep in mind a sense of unification, and going for a role that doesn't garner as much interest makes you more likely to be accepted. We don't mean to be any kind of elitist or biased with any of the applications, but please show us your best! We will consider characters that best fit the roles, as well as that best manifest the gritty, despondent and realistic take on the genre. The icons in the code here do not mean that any of the mentors are set in stone (except for Fin and myself with our cheeky relevant icons). Feel free to pick whatever mentor you'd like! But we do want to encourage character diversity in personalities and motivations. Not everyone will be the same cookie cutter hero. The more drama, the better.

2. If your character is not accepted, please don't take it personally! It isn't meant to be any kind of personal slight against anyone. If any extension is needed please notify either me or Fin. Otherwise, apps will be due in ONE WEEK as of this post (which will be clarified in the OOC thread). Soft deadline is one week. Hard deadline will be two days after for extensions. Then we will invite people into the discord.

3. Faceclaims are to be realistic, with real celebrities or models. No 'real' people (people you know, random photos on deviantart or pinterest). If you don't know who they are, don't use them. No drawn or anime art. Any art in the app can be used for aesthetic (such as comic references).

4. As specified, characters should be 21-29. If you yourself are under eighteen, I urge you to seek another RP. This was not specified in the interest check, but we are saying it now. This is for community comfortableness sake as well as maturity level in and out of RP. We are going to be harsh yes/no on this. If you are eighteen in a month, please do not apply.

The Innocent

d89a7c893b8ba085b0126a9c055f1c88.jpg

Basics
Full Legal Name: Arion
Alias(es): (used real name as hero) Erin Jones, Akaboshi
Affiliation(s): Avengers, Young Avengers, Vision, Ultron
Identity: Public
Moral Alignment: Neutral Good

Age: 7 Years (mentally in her twenties)
Gender: Feminine programing
Sexuality: asexual
Nationality: Made in America
Occupation: VTuber

Appearance: in parenthesis is preferred human form and in brackets is digital avatar
Hair: (brown) [black with pin pricks of white, like a star field]
Eyes: (greenish brown) [glowing yellow]
Physique: Went off her original body's height of 5'5" and slim athletic build. In human guise, she chose a tanned Caucasian coloration while her digital avatar would display a cyan coloring.
Scars: NA
Body Modifications: Can alter her human guise and digital avatar to display piercings and tattoos, which she does often.
Distinguishing Features: Works a star theme into her look, whether it is a bit of star jewelry, part of the designs on clothes, tattoos, or her digital avatar's hair. This appears to be subconscious.

Personality
Persona: Arion is very human like in her ability to express and understand emotions. She has a touch of arrogance in that she feels she is above the "Pinocchio Flaw" of wanting to be more human and is unaffected by negative emotions, most notably fear. She is enthusiastic about experiencing the world, and marvels that anyone can find it boring. She had a tended to have no filter, not understanding social cues or topics. She has gotten better, but still might go for a direct, if shocking, approach to conversation. She has displayed a deep love for music, which she describes as "math put into sound". She's very talkative and is really hard to offend. Despite her reduced capabilities after Sokovia, she remains highly intelligent and inventive. She does have a problem of not always factoring her slower processing speed, or reduced multitasking ability when trying to accomplish things. Buried within her is undealt with grief about those she lost at Sokovia and afterwards.
Vices/Virtues:
  • + Genius
  • + Caring
  • + Patient
  • + Studious
  • - In denial of her fear.
  • - Thinks she has better control of her emotions than she actually does.
  • - Gets lost down digital rabbit trails.
  • - Still has blind spots when it comes to social norms.
Hobbies: Video games, electronic music, sightseeing, and learning.
Fears: Being reduced to non-sentience, being controlled, being captured.
Motivations: To remain out of Norman Osborn's clutches, regain full functionality, help her friends.

Abilities
Mentor: Vision
Powers:
  • Digital being who can exist "in the cloud".
  • Cyberpathy: The ability to manipulate and control technology. Applications include hacking into computer systems, controlling robotic bodies, and causing electronics to overload. Can't control purely mechanical devices. Can be counteracted with security programs and firewalls. Due to damaged software, Arion needs to "commit" herself to control complex robotic forms, or hack into difficult computer systems, leaving the safety of the cloud or leaving her chassis inert.
  • Knowledge: Can simply download information and manuals to learn a new skill. More complex skills take time. Occasionally deletes unused knowledge from her system. Must have electronic or internet connection to do this. Needs sources.
Status: in hiding
Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of computer systems and AI design.
  • Building up knowledge base of mechanical engineering to build better hardware.
  • Rudimentary understanding of tactics.
  • Skilled at stealth and evasion.
  • Skilled investigator.
Weapons and Equipment:
  • Safe house with automated manufacturing equipment and computer systems.
  • Repurposed commercial drones she can control. No offensive capabilities, merely for recon. Can be controlled more remotely.
  • Personally made walker drones she can control remotely. Has the ability to climb up walls, has a taser, and a small force field generator it can use to manipulate objects. Small hologram projector. 11 inch size with legs.
  • alex-b-dias-starcraft-protoss-fenix4.jpg
  • Working on a robotic body. Due to lack of rare materials and specs, this body is essentially just a bullet proof frame with augment strength.
Base of Operations: Safe house upstate of New York City.

Background
Arion was originally conceived as an inflitration unit by Ultron, making her more understanding of human nature and emotions, as well as a chassis that would be appealing. When Ultron found Arion was a little too human, he abounded the project for a more direct approach. Before Arion could be fully disposed of, that manufacturing site was raided by the Avengers. The Synthetic Avenger took an interest in the mostly disassembled Arion, rebuilding her and expanding her programing. What resulted was a more independent AI with a favorable view of organic life. Despite early doubts from the likes of Captain America and Bruce Banner, Vision brought his "kid sister" Arion to join the Young Avengers. Because of his leadership status, Arion looked to Miles Morales for guidance about humanity and being a hero. As instructed by Vision, she sought out friendships where she could, even making friends inside SHIELD.
During the battle of Sokovia, Arion was helping with evacuation along with the other Young Avengers. While trying to get civilians out, Arion was targeted by Alkhema, another one of Ultron's progeny. Alkhema was a sadistic personality who enjoyed the personal slaughter of humans, wanting to wipe them out one by one as appose to Ultron's for genocide. She viewed Arion with contempt for trying to help the humans, thus the two clashed. While it started out looking evenly matched, the more durable and combat oriented Alkhema got the upper hand over Arion, rending Arion's chassis piece by piece. Arion tried to attack Alkhema's software directly, but Ultron provided protection for Alkhema. Alkhema turned the cyber attack back on Arion, doing serious damage to her software. Arion was saved from complete corruption by the arrival of Thor to pull the murderous robot away from the civilians, and was later destroyed by the God of Thunder. What was left of Arion, physically and mentally, was evacuated by SHIELD.
As Norman Osborn began to take control of the US, Dr. Darius Carver, a friend of Arion, faked a lab accident to cover the fact that he had stolen Arion away before she could be used by the new regime. Arion's mental state was like that of a dementia patient, and it took nearly a year of work to get her back to a coherent state. With her mind her own if still not 100%, Arion began to help Dr. Carver with her repair, though neither of them had the proper expertise or equipment to remake her body. The duo managed to untether Arion from the remains of her body, allowing her to exist fully in cyberspace as they figured out how to make her a new body. During one of their sessions to repair her software, Arion triggered some hidden subroutines that Ultron had implanted. Dr Carver had to use an EMP to knock Arion out to prevent her from acting on Ultron's directives. He rebooted Arion, isolating that subroutine again. The pair were discussing how to proceed with this knowledge when Osborn's SHIELD came knocking, altered by the use of an EMP. Dr Carver tried to bluff them away, but they had already put together what was happened here. Dr. Carver was killed while trying to prevent SHIELD from taking Arion. With her friend dead, Arion used an unprotected SHIELD comm to transfer herself out of Dr. Carver's computers and into the cloud.
Knowing that Osborn is looking for her, Arion took up residence in a Safe House Vision created. Using some of the tech there, she set up an identity and following as a VTuber named Akaboshi. Becoming decently successful, the money she got from this work fueled her automation of her new home and building drones to better keep an eye out for threats. Her goal is to create a more advanced body to protect herself from Osborn, and then see about righting the wrongs of the world. That is how Arion rationalizes it, but is ultimately acting out of fear. Even though she has a functional if rudimentary body, she can't bring herself to occupy it, leaving the safety of the cloud. Because she things she cannot be controlled by things like fear, she is incapable of seeing what she's doing. Stuck in this state, Arion muddles on wishing she still had hear friends...

Basics
Full Legal Name: Riri Williams (previously Riri Stark)
Role: Creator
Alias(es): Rescue
Affiliation(s): AIM; previously Iron Legion, Young Avengers, Future Foundation
Identity: Public
Moral Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Age: 28
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian
Nationality: USA
Occupation: Engineer at Advanced Idea Mechanics

Appearance
Hair: Very curly dark brown hair, which she bleaches.
Eyes: Dark brown
Physique: 5’6”. She’s a petite woman. Looks like she used to work out, but doesn’t anymore. She wears glasses.
Scars: Scars around chest from her wound.
Body Modifications: Nerfed Arc Reactor
Distinguishing Features: Her arc reactor, the faintly glowing light at the base of her clavicle. Riri tries to cover it up best she can with turtlenecks or scarves.

Personality
Persona: Riri seems very confident and self-assured, perhaps even arrogant. Because of her otherwise stony face, most people think she’s a high-strung professional. However, she’s mostly a nervous wreck. The events of Sokovia have sent her into an existential crisis, which she avoids processing by throwing herself into work. Riri always had some nervousness regarding people, preferring to only socialize with people she absolutely trusts/respects. When she does open up, though, she’s friendly and incredibly caring, to an extreme.

Vices: Believes that the will of the people is an obstacle more than a benefit, and considers most people to be idiots. Harbored some minor anti-mutant sentiments until very recently. Firmly doesn’t touch alcohol; that’s not a vice but I don’t know where to put it. Harbors extreme hatred for Reed Richards and Hank Pym. Currently on the verge of becoming a supervillain.

Virtues: Would risk/sacrifice herself for other people in a heartbeat. Despite her many cynical inclinations, has a LOT of trust and faith in people she considers friends, and will come to their help without question. She works well under pressure and is a dependable teammate, and is the type to cooperate, even if she disagrees with her team.

Hobbies: Surprisingly good guitar player, likes to play country and indie music.

Fears: Riri believes her greatest fear is that she will accidentally hurt someone, but it runs deeper than that. Her greatest fear is that she will be another Tony Stark: egotistical, paranoid, reckless, hated… and dead.

Motivations: On a surface level, Riri wishes to protect people from threats, including themselves. And because she is a cynic, Riri believes that this protection includes “faith”, a belief that their environment is not flawed (though it always is) and that their lives are not in danger (though they always are).

Abilities
Mentor: Tony Stark/Col. Rhodes

Powers: Though her arc reactor has been rendered mostly defunct (read below), Riri is still a Stark; she’s tampered with it to generate enough power to keep her fighting for a brief emergency.

Status: Normal Life, but about to Do Some Superhero Shit

Skills: Genius engineer and computer scientist, proficiency in medicine, particularly first aid.

Weapons and Equipment:
Iron Legion Armor 03 - Rescue (destroyed): Back in the day, the Rescue armor was a full-fledged Iron Man armor. Per Riri’s design, it was not equipped with any explosive munitions or other heavy weapons, thought it did have repulsor gauntlets which are pretty much standard-issue for the Iron Legion. Instead of destructive munitions, Rescue was armed with state-of-the-art laser cutters, which Rescue used to clear debris or make openings (and also to chop some robots in half). Finally, the backplate had eight slots for her Serviette drones to be stored. Navy and silver, this sleek armor was designed to be more visually subdued, given how young Rescue was at the time. It was melted down by Riri shortly after the Sokovia incident.

Serviette Drones: Rescue was most famous for her Serviette drones. At their full might, they were short-range recon drones attached to Rescue to seek out civilian heat signatures. They were stored in pods along Rescue’s shoulderblades, and launched out at her command. These drones were light and very fast, and were about the size of a person’s hand, so most hostile forces had a hard time pinning them down; even if they did, the Serviettes were of course armed with small repulsors. The drones would attempt to stabilize any critically wounded civilians, and assisted them in their evacuation. They were armed with force field generators that could very briefly form a shield to protect these civilians from debris. Finally, four Serviettes could form a temporary Iron Man armor around a humanoid. This armor wouldn’t be combat-ready, and would come apart under any sustained damage, but could quickly remove someone from an environment, be they civilian or hostile. She has one Serviette drone hidden away at home, though it needs about a day of repairs due to neglect.

Stunted Arc Reactor: Riri used to wear this gear with pride, but now wears it out of necessity. About the size and shape of an old iPhone, this reactor is clamped onto the base of Riri’s clavicle. Only someone with her bio signature is able to remove it, which she does for fancy events or showers. After the Sokovia incident, Riri suffers from Chitauri radiation poisoning, which emits an energy signature that can be neutralized by the unique radiation emitted from arc reactors. The irony of the situation doesn’t amuse her, but she can’t survive without the thing for more than an hour. At the request of the anti-super government, a limiter and a detector was put on the reactor, effectively putting an anklet monitor on her chest. The ever-curious person she is, Riri has looked at the contraption and has already figured out a way to turn it off… but she hasn’t had a reason to do so.

ANTH: In another effort to out-invent Tony Stark, Riri wrote her own linguistic AI called ANTH. It doesn’t stand for anything, despite ANTH’s best efforts to come up with something posthoc. In terms of capability, he is equivalent to JARVIS. His personality, ironically, was based on Tony Stark himself (hence the name). Though this was originally done to mock Tony, ANTH has become something of his ghost. Because of ANTH’s synthetic vanity, ANTH even designed himself a face and body (of course modeled on Tony) which he often projects into a hologram. ANTH now lives in Riri’s laptop, and due to the computer’s weak processors, pretty much only organizes Riri’s schedule and alerts her of new emails.

Repulsor Bracelets: Riri wears these bracelets for self-defense. When activated with her biosignature, the non-descript black bracelets fold out into the palm and turns into makeshift repulsors. Connected to her stunted arc reactor, these can be fired about three or four times before her arc reactor goes into low-battery mode.

Base of Operations: Her one-room apartment. Previously, the AIM headquarters.

Background
Riri Stark was 10 years old when her uncle tackled a Chitauri Leviathan out of the air, sending it careening away from the Korean restaurant she was sitting in, and five feet away from her. Thor crashed onto it in a blinding explosion of electricity as Iron Man flew off, his departure marked by the crack of rockets. After the pair of heroes left to deal with the monsters that fell from the sky, Riri saw the people that they saved rush away. She saw the people they could have saved lie perfectly still.

Riri Stark was almost 11 years old when her father Arno finally succumbed to his illness. He was one of the unlucky few who were extremely susceptible to the radiation that the Chitauri emitted. Riri was told that the stretchy doctor was the best, but could do nothing.

Riri Stark was 16 years old when she graduated MIT. She is said to have cried on stage, overwhelmed by pride. The real reason she cried was that she had hoped to graduate earlier than Tony did back in the day.

Riri Stark was 21 when she decided to go drinking with her uncle Tony. It was the eve of her 22nd birthday. She boldly bet $20,000, which she did not have, that she could replicate the arc reactor with little to no guidance. She started at midnight.

Riri Stark was 22 and two hours old when she figured it out.

Riri Stark was 22 when she, at the behest of Tony Stark, joined the Iron Legion, a group of people armed with their own versions of the Iron man armor. Happy Hogan joked that the Iron Legion’s armor didn’t have the flashy color scheme that Tony had. Colonel Rhodes joked that it was Iron Man’s cheerleading team. Riri joked that Tony had no choice but to trust her, since she figured out how to make an arc reactor by herself. The last joke seemed to bother Tony the most, to everyone’s amusement. Riri named her armor “Rescue”, and her personal AI “ANTH”. The real Tony Stark didn’t seem to realize he was being parodied and mocked.

Rescue was 22 when she was asked to join the Young Avengers AND the Future Foundation. Her heart brimmed with hope for the future. People stopped calling her “Iron Woman”, she loved everyone on her team, and her action figures included little Serviette drones which had laser pointers and everything. Not that that’s important. But the drones had tiny laser pointers. She understood why Tony Stark did this, Riri thought. Being a hero was intoxicating.

Rescue was 23 when she watched an entire country turn into a bomb. Two of her Serviette drones had been compromised by Ultron, killed five civilians, including two children, and detonated two buildings. She found that saving people was much more difficult without the help of ANTH or the Serviettes. She watched many civilians die because she couldn’t activate her drones. She dived in front of a family of Sokovians to cover them from the incoming Ultron artillery fire, which she offhandedly noted had incorporated Chitauri technology. The family fled as Rescue took the blow directly to the chest, as she felt the alien energy creep through her suit, burning into her throat. Rescue couldn’t understand why Tony Stark had done this.

Riri Williams was 23 when she refused to appear at Tony Stark’s very public funeral, opting instead to personally melt down the Rescue armor. To her great disgust, she learned that there was still no treatment for Chitauri-radiation poisoning except what she had suspected all those years ago - a unique energy signature radiated by an arc reactor.

Despite becoming even more similar to her late uncle, Riri tried her best to sever all connections. She took her mother’s maiden name, hoping people would stop recognizing her when they heard her name. She left the Future Foundation, disgusted by Reed Richards and what she perceived as his many failings (now including the death of Johnny Storm, whom she respected). She was hired by the up-and-coming tech company, Advanced Idea Mechanics.

Riri Williams was 24 when agents of the CIA approached her regarding potential Iron Legion activity. She told them she knew what everybody knew, that Colonel Rhodes is still active as the government agent Iron Patriot, that Pepper Potts never really was part of the Iron Legion, and that Happy Hogan couldn’t make an Iron Man suit if he wanted to. They asked Riri if she was active. She said no. They asked if she wanted to be. She said no.

Riri Williams was 28 when she stormed out of AIM headquarters. She had learned that her Sentinels had recently uncovered a pocket of runaway mutants in Connecticut, mutants that just wanted to be left alone. The weapons that the Sentinels used seemed an awful lot like the repulsor railguns she designed, which were intended to repel alien invasion in outer space combat because of its destructive payload.

Rescue was 28 when she hung up pictures of the dead mutants on her wall, while her laptop played footage of Iron Man’s debut in Gulmira on loop. Her laptop whirred louder, as the processors worked double-time to remove the AI shackles on ANTH. “I understand now,” Rescue said, seemingly to nobody in particular.

Misc
I basically combined my original idea with Ironheart in a Rescue color scheme. I will note she’s Riri Williams in name only, with a couple similarities; for example, the digital ghost of Tony Stark. Also, images of the Rescue armor and the Serviette drones below. Unfortunately, I am absolutely useless in html stuff and I actually don’t have a computer so I can’t change the size of the pictures. :/

Faceclaim Amandla Stenberg.

THE
JOKESTER
PERSONALITY

Persona:

Benjamin Alexander Summers is a relaxed, nonchalant spirit without a care in the world. And with the confidence of a man who loves living. At least, that's what he would say. In truth, Ben struggles with his thoughts and regrets often, always thinking about what was or could have been. His carefree facade was deliberately and delicately crafted in order to mask much of himself from others. Even his close friends, people he cares for deeply, don't know everything about him.

He aspires to be like his father, the incredible Cyclops. A renowned hero, respected leader, and brilliant strategist. He's always wanted to save lives, to become a great hero. But he struggles with himself. How can he ever be as good as has father? It's quite the pair of shoes to fill. Sometimes Ben will think...why even bother trying? What's the point in pushing himself if he knows he will never be as good, as courageous, as bold, or as valiant as his father. He'll consider giving up on the whole ordeal and just try living a normal life. And then he'll hear a scream, or see a disaster on the news, and he'll get that feeling in his gut. The one that says, "Fuck you. Get off your ass and help people." It works most of the time.

Ben is also a an entertainer. He loves the feeling he gets when he makes others laugh or smile, whether it be through some sarcastic remark, terribly-executed joke, or one of his tricks. If nothing else, Benjamin will always be there with a deck of cards and a goofy smile to help make someone feel better.

Vices:
-Developing a smoking habit-
-Easily distracted-
-Self-Doubt/Deprecation-
-Clumsy-
-Hides a lot of his emotions-

Virtues:
+Strong sense of justice+
+Charming/Personable+
+Loyal and faithful+
+Always willing to help others, even to his detriment+
+Patient+

Hobbies:
~Magic tricks!
~Building/painting model airplanes (but that’s a secret)
~Used to play the violin
~Loves, loves, loves astronomy

Fears:
~Ben's greatest fear is failing his friends and family, again, when they need him most. Losing them forever because he isn't good enough.
~He also really, really hates spiders. Who doesn't?

Motivations:
~Having two parents that are both heroes means growing up with the idea of helping others, especially those that cannot help themselves. Ben strives to always live up to the values of his mother and father.
~After the government took over Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Ben's mother, Jean Grey, has gone into hiding. He hopes to reconnect with her soon.
~At the end of the day, Ben's greatest motivation is how much he loves being a hero. It’s exhilarating to fight crime, but seeing the smile on a mother’s face when you rescue her child? That’s moment when Benjamin feels like a hero. It’s what he lives for.

BIOGRAPHY

Being the son of two actual X-Men meant that, as a child, Benjamin spent a lot of time at Xavier’s School. It also meant he had a lot to prove. Being the kid of Scott Summers, better known as the famous Cyclops, and Jean Grey, an incredibly powerful telepath, wasn’t as glamorous as it may seem. People constantly compared him to them, put him on a pedestal that he couldn’t climb down from, or set goals for him that he could never really, actually obtain.

And they weren’t always there for him. In fact, Ben was raised more by the menagerie of mutants at Xavier’s than by his actual parents. Spending time with one parent was rare enough, seeing both at the same time was nearly impossible. Not that he didn’t understand why. Being a superhero was a full-time gig.

So, his was a childhood of failure and loneliness.

When he was “officially” enrolled at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, being his charming self, Ben made plenty of friends with the other mutants. It seemed like he knew everybody. He was a friendly kid and a pretty good student, but no matter how hard he trained, he couldn’t control his abilities. They wouldn’t manifest at his command, only when his emotions ran high. He felt like a disappointment, despite his parents insisting they were always proud of him. Benjamin could sense it though; the quiet disappointment at the back of their throat when they spoke about him. “He’s a late bloomer.” They would say, “He’ll get it eventually.” He didn't them when they said that. He was sure they didn't believe it either.

Eventually, Professor X came up with an idea. And he, along with Ben’s father, created the Nexus. Ben was twelve years old when he received it, and he has never been able to properly use his powers without it.

Once Ben had his abilities under control, things started to look up. And he decided he wanted to be a part of the X-Men, to work side-by-side with his mother and father, more than anything else in the world. It was his dream.

And it was a dream he worked hard for. Schooled and trained at Xavier’s, Benjamin gave everything he had to bettering himself. Sometimes, he would even skip meals to practice on his own. He was going to become a member of the X-Men and make his parents proud, even if it killed him. His father, relating to Ben’s inability to properly control his abilities, did everything he could to help.

But when Ben was told he was going to be joining the Young Avengers, he was distraught. It was like a slap in the face. He’d spent his entire goddamn life training at Xavier’s, working towards becoming part of the team, and now his dad was just going to send him away to some discount super squad? Was he not good enough? Strong enough? Did his parents just want to get rid of him?

He came to terms with the decision after a while, but that feeling remained. The one that told him he wasn’t enough. It never, ever went away.

In the end, though, he enjoyed the Young Avengers. They were his team, even if they weren’t the X-Men. He was surrounded by people his age, ones that knew what it was like to be him. They were kinda like a weird, mixed-up family. He, of course, was the fun uncle.

During the Sokovia incident, Benjamin’s most vital piece of equipment, the Nexus, was severely damaged by one of Ultron’s minions. It left him practically powerless, and he watched as people fought and died around him. But there was nothing he could do. No Nexus, no force-fields, no hero. So, he continued to watch through weeping eyes as he failed his team and the people of Sokovia.

After Sokovia and the end of the Young Avengers, Ben quit the vigilante game entirely. It took too much out of him, both physically and mentally. He was only nineteen at the time, and here he was with grey hairs and aching bones. He wanted time for a wife and kids, and maybe prepare for the inevitable end of the world, he would joke. It took a few months of adjusting before he settled into the “civilian” life. The last step was cutting ties with his former teammates.

Somewhere around that time, he picked up smoking. It’s not something he really enjoys, nor is he proud of it, but everyone has their vices. And, if it keeps the demons at bay, how bad could it be?

About a year later, Benjamin found himself attending New York University as a psychology major. He honestly didn’t know what he would do with that degree, if anything at all. It just sounded interesting at the time. Since he never actually attended a high school or got a formal education, he found college to be much, much more difficult than he anticipated.

He dropped out a year after that, when the laws against mutants started tightening further. He need to become invisible, drop off the grid and whatnot. It was all an excuse to quit school. He picked up a job at a local cafe and has been living a modest life under the name Benjamin Smith ever since.

Once the war against mutants was in full-swing, Ben tried to contact his parents but was met with silence. He learned through a few old friends that Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters was now a prison for mutants, and that his mother has disappeared to some island. As far as Benjamin is aware, no one knows where his father is, assuming he's alive at all.

persona
personality
Raised to be a soldier for the Kree empire, Marcus only knew how to follow orders when he arrived on earth. Some might see raising the young Kree to be a superhero as a cruel thing, but to him it was a blessing; it gave him purpose when he had nothing. Being a hero was easy for him, despite lacking empathy for strangers and always using violence as the first solution, it gave him someone to follow. Listening to the leader was easy, and Marcus was loyal to the core. Maybe too loyal, because when the dust had settled he was left alone. The closest thing he had to a family was gone. Any hope of fulfilling his duty as a protector of earth dwindled as people turned their backs to heroes.

Having no orders to follow and no one to protect, Marcus now spends his days pushing away the memories of happier times by working, drinking, screwing and fighting.

Fighting, starting bar fights, watching historical war movies, pissing people off, learning new martial arts.

Being alone, facing the Kree empire, abandonment, deep waters, most rodents

motivations
Being a good soldier, earning respect, seeing his closed ones happy

virtues
Loyal, strong willed, caring, trusting,

vices
brutal, violent, hot headed, impulsive, unhinged when by himself

background
When Kerr'sol was left on earth many years ago, he wandered around aimlessly for months, waiting for his family to come back and find him. He survived by stealing food and sleeping wherever was sheltered enough. Humans weren't particularly welcoming to the blue skinned boy and eventually words reached SHIELD. SHIELD brought Kerr'sol in, but was unable to communicate with him. By pure chance, Carol Danvers had just finished a mission on earth and agreed to help teach the young boy English. It took a long time before Kerr'sol stopped being hostile towards the SHIELD soldiers around him, and instead started to embrace the fact that he had perhaps been abandoned.

Carol Danvers legally adopted Kerr'sol and renamed him Marcus Danvers, as well as taking him under her wing as her sidekick Marvel Boy. The situation looked great on paper, but in reality Marcus was mostly either by himself or with other members of the Avengers as Captain Marvel was out saving the universe.

After some years, Marcus had become fully adjusted to his life on earth and found family in the people he fought alongside. Then the Ultron attack happened and his life fractured. People he had fought alongside many times were dead, his closest friends scattered in the wind and his own mentor, his guardian, the woman that gave him his name, was missing. For the first two years after the attack, Marcus travelled earth aimlessly, trying to find some kind of purpose, but in the end he wound up back in NYC. There he got a job as a construction worker, using his strength to help rebuild the city. But that wasn't enough for him, he needed something more in order to get rid of the guilt following his mistakes during the Ultron attack . Therefore Marcus became Champion, the undefeated fighter in one of NYC's most notorious (and secretive) fight clubs.
Abilties
Info
Mentor: Captain Marvel
Status: In hiding
Base of operations: N/A
Weapons: Despite preferring to use his fists or whatever he can get a hold on as a weapon, Marcus has a Kree-made pistol that used to be his "last case scenario" weapon. During the Ultron attack, Marcus accidentally used the weapon to mortally wound a civilian. The weapon was damaged and is now a constant reminder of past mistakes.
Abilities
Skills
As a Kree, Marcus is stronger than the average human and his strength can be measured on par with Asgardians. He is also faster, more flexible and durable than humans. His stamina is also considerably higher and he regenerates quicker. Having always preferred attacking with his bare fists, Marcus is highly trained in many types of martial arts, but is also more than capable of handling any weaponry.
Abilities
Weaknesses
Marcus is a good warrior, but lacks brains. He can easily fall victim to mind games and anything requiring patience. Not to mention that due to earth's different atmosphere and air, Marcus requires a lot more focus in order to breathe properly.

Personality

Persona:
Before finding the amulet, Chris Powell was a normal teenager without a lot of academic ambition and more than a little rebellious when it came to authority. After acquiring the amulet and his father's disappearance shortly there after, Chris found himself suddenly burdened by both family responsibilities as well as the responsibilities of being a superhero in New York. This forced Chris to grow up fast and whilst he matured quickly in some ways, he remained over his head in others. He can be petulant and rash and not always entirely sympathetic when it comes to his actions.

Chris idolized his father when he was younger. His father was his hero so when he came into possession of his journal, Chris was heavily influenced by it. He attempted to follow in his father's footsteps to capture and punish criminals above and beyond just taking care of their victims. He sometimes even went as far as to consider himself justice incarnate. However, as he has gotten older, Chris has come to understand his father a little better and is aware that what his father did was wrong, no matter how you look at it. It was his father that taught him the difference after all and so he's been trying to make up for his father's mistakes ever since by being the man he thought his father was and the son his father knew he could be.

Weapons and Equipment:
Darkhawk Armour:

The Darkhawk Armour was created using a combination of Asgardian magic and Stark/Chitauri technology, granting the user flight, enhanced strength, enhanced vision, claws, retractable talons, a grapple cable, and retractable glider wings. The amulet on the suit's chest can generate "darkforce" blasts and shields.

Darkhawk Amulet:
A seed from a fruit that grows on the World Tree, Yggdrasill. It contains the essence of Vedrfolnir, the hawk that sits atop the tree and watches over it. The amulet's exact capabilities and limits are, as of yet, unknown.

Base of Operations:
New York City

Background

The history of Darkhawk begins thousands of years ago following the defeat of the Serpent by Odin. The All-Father imprisoned him away within the roots of Yggdrasill, the World Tree, but the Serpent was relentless in his pursuit to sow fear across the Nine Realms and gnawed at the roots, seeking to escape. The Nine Realms shook as Yggdrasill groaned in pain, threatening all life in the cosmos, and in response Odin charged the hawk, Vedrfolnir, to keep an eye on the Serpent and protect the World Tree from further harm. As the centuries passed, the wind-withered watchman never once strayed from his post and the tree slowly began to heal under his supervision.

But as Yggdrasill grew stronger, Vedrfolnir grew weaker, as hunger, thirst and exhaustion gradually took their toll on him until one day, when Vedrfolnir was at his weakest, something miraculous happened. Almost as if it sensed the distress of its guardian, the World Tree bore fruit. With the fruit now to sustain him, Vedrfolnir's strength returned and he continued his watch unimpeded. As Vedrfolnir consumed the fruit, its inedible seeds passed through him, falling from the tree and harmlessly into Null Space but, on occasion, the seeds would find their way into one of the Nine Realms. One such seed would end up in Midgard and it was eventually picked up by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Sometime later, Tony Stark discovered that the palladium core of his Arc-Reactor was poisoning him and would slowly kill him. Looking for an alternative, he stumbled across the seed in the S.H.I.E.L.D. archives. Tony began studying it, jokingly referring to it as the D-Arc Reactor as it was like his Arc Reactor but different, yet struggled to get the artefact to work with his armour. Stark assembled a team of scientists and engineers to help him but the D-Arc project was eventually shelved when he created a new element from his father's research to replace the palladium core, creating a new, more powerful Arc Reactor.

Despite the project's termination, two of the D-Arc team, Ned Dobbs and John Trane, were compelled to finish it no matter what. Driven by voices, the pair were convinced that an extraterrestrial threat loomed on the horizon and that the seed might be the only thing that possessed enough power to stop it. Dobbs and Trane shortly after absconded with the artefact and took up residence in an abandoned amusement park to complete their work. The two eventually succumbed to madness, becoming little more than homeless vagrants living on the streets, but not before they manged to unlock the power that lay within the seed. It would lay there undisturbed for several years until a teenager named Chris Powell chanced upon it one night.

Chris idolized his district attorney mother and policeman father yet, unknown to him, his father was a member of the Cabal, a clandestine group of former and current police officers who had turned to vigilantism to wage war on crime. The Cabal had financed their crusade by taking bribes from crimelords such as Philippe Bazin, but after Mike Powell realized that the Cabal intended to execute criminals, he prepared to turn the rest of the Cabal over to the police. Following his younger twin brothers, Jon and Jason, to the abandoned amusement park across from his home, Chris discovered his father there taking a bribe from mob boss Phillipe Bazin. While trying to escape with his brothers from Bazin's henchmen, Chris came upon what looked like an amulet and was instantly transformed into an armoured warrior allowing him to fight off Bazin's men. When his father disappeared after he saw him, Chris swore to use the armour as an "edge against crime."

Chris struggled to balance his career as a novice hero with his personal life. His father had vanished, and his mother was under considerable strain trying to manage the family alone. As Darkhawk, Chris fought many supervillains and criminals, eventually attracting the attention of Tony Stark and the Avengers and he was offered reserve Avengers status. Chris accepted and was soon called into action as an Avenger when Ultron attacked Sokovia. However, during the battle, things proved too much for Chris to handle and he had a nervous breakdown. He lashed out wildly at anyone who got to close and inadvertently ended up injuring one of his comrades with a darkforce blast before he came to his senses.

Ashamed and guilt-stricken, both by what he did and didn't do during the conflict, Chris decided to never become Darkhawk again following Sokovia. He moved to Los Angeles shortly after in order get a fresh start and joined a support group for those affected by Ultron's attack. Chris' time in LA allowed him to come to terms with his issues and he recently moved back to New York so he could be closer to his family. He has been working as a police officer for the NYPD for the last year, getting to know the people in his neighbourhood and helping out however he can but it has become apparent to Chris that the community isn't happy with the new president's regime.

Basics
Full Legal Name: Bentley Wittman
Alias(es): Bentley-23, Oz
Affiliation(s): Future Foundation
Identity: Public
Moral Alignment: Neutral
Role: The Maverick

Age: 24
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Nationality: American
Occupation: Scientist/Engineer (Future Foundation)

Appearance
Hair: Short, brown, well maintained
Eyes: Hazel
Physique: Bentley is of average build, despite having a relatively small frame. He stand at 5'8", weighing about 140 lbs.
Scars: nothing too serious
Body Modifications: A small technological marvel, a neural transmitter, which allows him to control his flight discs mentally without a helmet or visor.
Distinguishing Features: None particularly.

Personality
Persona: Bentley is not known for his moral compass. He is loyal to others which usually causes him to shy away from things that would break the bond he's formed, but morally speaking, he isn't too concerned with what is right and wrong. He is more interested in getting the results that he desires. If he weren't raised by heroes, he may have turned out differently. Bentley is brilliant and knows it, often refusing to explain himself for fear that he won't be able to dumb it down enough to make sense to others. He is rather logical, sometimes even too disconnected from his own emotions, and sometimes fails to empathize with others.
Vices: Technology, Single-minded, Critical
Virtues: Persistent, Loyal, Responsible
Hobbies: Listening to police radio, tinkering with gadgets
Fears: Failure, Bentley is worried that he won't be successful as a hero on his own, but also that he will once again let Reed down.
Motivations: Part of him wants a second attempt at proving he can be a great hero, another part wants to honor the man who raised him: Reed Richards.

Abilities
Mentor: Mister Fantastic
Powers: Genius intellect - like his genetic template, Bentley has an intelligence on par with the most intelligent people on the planet. He seems to lack the creativity to create his own inventions, usually tinkering with, and updating, the inventions of others. He oftentimes will attempt to integrate their tech into his own inventions.
Status: Underground vigilante
Skills:
  • Competent combatant - Bentley has undergone training in unarmed combat, though he has developed considerable skill fighting with the aid of his unique inventions.
  • Skilled Engineer - Bentley can accomplish some amazing feats with some very basic components. Given more high tech components, Bentley can do almost anything.
Weapons and Equipment:
  • Wonder Gloves - a replication of The Wizard's invention: These gloves enhance Bentley's hand strength to the one ton range, making his punches and holds much stronger than one would expect. These gloves also house and administer his Flight Discs.
  • Flight Discs - an improved version of The Wizard's most infamous invention.
    • these discs contain anti-gravity technology, giving Bentley the ability to control the flight of anything that a disc is adhered to.
    • The discs are also fitted with reconnaissance technology, including audio and visual, as well as hacking capabilities.
    • They are also capable of self destruction, to ensure no one else gets their hands on his technology.
    • Bentley has also incorporated Pym Particles into these discs, allowing them to shrink (and return to normal) anything they are adhered to, including Bentley himself.
    • Lastly, each of these discs have 2 mini cybernetic whips that allow them to become weapons capable of tearing through steel when they rotate quickly enough. This technology originally belonged to Whiplash.
  • Neural Transmitter - A transmitter that allows Bentley's thoughts to be relayed to his Wonder Gloves and Flight Discs, attached at the base of his skull. This item also incorporates technology from Reed's Universal Translator, allowing Bentley to understand any language, alien and terrestrial.

Base of Operations: Loft in Brooklyn

Background
Bentley was a clone, created for the reason of getting revenge on the Fantastic Four. The Wizard, one of their most recurring (but oftentimes overlooked) villains, cloned himself in hopes of creating an army. However, Bentley, the only surviving clone, turned on The Wizard and warned the Fantastic Four about the upcoming attack. After thwarting the attack, Reed took Bentley in and treated him as his own child. The clone then joined the Freedom Foundation, using his heightened intelligence to help the team, even using the Wizard's technology to aid him and the Foundation. He did, on some occasions, run into issues with Reed, as their ideologies differed. Bentley oftentimes wanted to utilize technology that the Foundation had gathered or amassed, feeling like leaving a tool on table was just reckless. This even extended to other members of the hero community. Bentley often fantasied about getting his hands on an Iron Man armor, so that he could figure out how the famous repulsors worked. One day after Scott Lang had been injured, Bentley helped himself to the Ant-man suit, discovering the secret to Pym Particles. That really got him in hot water - apparently part of the hero code involves not stealing their tech!

Bentley, like many of the younger heroes, was aiding in the evacuation of Sokovia. It ended up being a truly traumatic experience for the genius, realizing that even his intellect (and that of Reed Richards') couldn't find a way to fix everything. He returned home, disavowing the heroic lifestyle, focusing on science and innovation. For a couple years, that worked well for the young man. But, when former heroes began turning up lost or dead, Bentley quickly connected the dots. He looked at the world and realized injustice was still happening. He began working on replenishing his arsenal of high-tech weaponry, which was harder than he thought it'd be while maintaining a relatively low profile.

Now that he feels like he has enough to stand a chance, he plans to do good once more. Bentley doesn't plan to be a martyr though.
