    Link, Hero of Twilight

The hour of twilight was upon the Silver Deer camp, and Link had just finished making sure the reindeer were rounded up and secure enough for their faction to make camp and settle in for the night. Doe was cooking their dinner, Link noted, as he rode up to their little camp on Epona. He dismounted, reflecting on the hour. A thin layer of snow crunched under his boots, reminding him a bit of the chill of Snowpeak in Hyrule, and the reindeer much like the goats of Ordon.
It was a shame that Hyrule was nowhere near here.
How ironic, that his journey to save Hyrule from the Twilight Invasion began with pondering the hour of twilight, and now he was here, pondering the same thing again but so far from home. He wondered if the Twilight Realm was caught up in all this too, and if it has, was Midna still alright? Would he be able to find her?
    Should he even look?
Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Link patted Epona’s neck before sitting down on one of the logs found and pulled over for seating.
“Reindeer should be good for the night, as long as we have someone on watch. I can take the first watch if no one else wants to.” He offered, mainly speaking to Doe but open enough that the others could chime in as well.

It was cold. very cold. That's how it had been for a while now. The ground was covered in a hard permafrost, and the air had an icy bite to it. It had been forever since anyone had felt any sort of warmth. Frankly, it was difficult to remember what warmth even felt like at times. Even now, sitting by the crackling fire, The leader of The Silver Deer barely felt anything. Like the very essence of cold had fused with his body, he wasn't sure if he could be warmed again. He prodded the fire with a stick, barely flinching at a cloud of embers escaped the flames and floated just a little too close to his face. Dinner was almost ready. Venison. Again. Doe was beginning to grow tired of the taste, but what else did they have? Honestly this was probably the best food for miles. As far as he knew his group was the only one with such a large food source. He was lucky, but he also needed to be careful.

Because as fortunate as he was to have so much food, it also made him a target, as he would soon realize.

Doe was pulled from his thoughts by Link as he returned to camp. He gave Link a tired smile. He considered letting Link take the first shift. He was exhausted. Doe couldn't remember the last time he had a good sleep, it was probably before he was brought here. Months ago. He needed it, really needed it.
"It's alright dear, i can take the first shift tonight."
He said.
"You folks need your rest, i can handle it."

As tempting as it was, Doe wasn't sure if he even could sleep. If he let his guard down and something happened to the group, he would never be able to forgive himself. Doe's worried thoughts would leave him tossing and turning all night, and if he wasn't going to sleep, he might as well do something useful with his time.

The dark of the clouds hide the soft and tender warm of the sun. Letting the cold wind run wild against the living beings that walked in the middle of nowhere, moving their feet through the snow to get to a place that nobody really knew.

As Doe started the fire, the young Neoisi rushed to sit next to him. She put her hands near the fire to feel the soft and almost non existent warm of the flames. Unlike her cooking partner, she still felt the heat that the bonfire emitted. She was constantly seeking for them, no matter if it was to be near the fire or hide herself under mountains of blankets. She hated the cold, and even more, she hated the freezing feeling of being cold.

As she was warming herself up, a couple of steps crunched as a young nekomimi boy walked towards the fireplace.

“So….. What do we have them alive?” Siutix asked as he saw the reindeers “I mean, isn’t much easier to kill the reindeers and make jerky from their meat??? Think about it…. They are not going to grow more and keeping them is more dangerous than guarding our supplies from raiders…… Not mentioning that they need to eat…..“ The boy stomp on the floor to show how the snow was actually a hard permafrost” And there is no way we can find any food for them naturally……”

While everyone in the faction was settling in camp, Zenitsu Agatsuma was patroling the area to make sure no one would steal the reindeer. He didn't know why they had him do this job. Tanjiro and Inosuke haven't returned from escorting fellow Silver Deer. Zenitsu would rather stay by the fire instead of patroling in the cold.
"Why they had a weakling like me on guard duty?" he whinned. "I'm going to be killed by one of those Dragon's bane jerks or worse yet,by a wild beast or a demon!!!"

A lone figure stood a small distance away from where they had set up their temporary camp, red hood drawn up against the cold. Her head was tipped back, a small cloud escaping into the air as she breathed, silver eyes fixed on the sky. It wasn't her sky, she knew that, but it didn't stop her from gazing at the stars that were beginning to appear as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Were her friends out there somewhere, looking at the same sky? Was Uncle Qrow? Yang? Her father? Her heart clenched painfully as she pictured their smiling faces. Had they survived the earth splitting open like it had? She wasn't even sure how she had survived and besides that, Qrow had been poisoned. Her head lowered, fists clenching as she fought the tears that wanted to well up in her eyes. Crying wouldn't solve anything, wouldn't help her find her friends.

All she could do now was keep moving forward and keep a look-out for anyone she knew; they had to be alive, they had to be.

Shoulders slumping, she turned and trudged her way through the cold towards the camp. A few members of The Silver Deer were taking refuge from the cold around the fire and Ruby joined them, slumping down onto a log that had been dragged over. She let the conversation wash over her, silver eyes flicking up from where they gazed at the fire to gaze at the leader of their rag-tag group.

"Is...Is there anything I can do to help?" She asked Doe, her voice quiet in the still air. Though she had been found by them only two days ago, she wasn't used to feeling so... useless. Ever since Beacon fell, it had felt like she was constantly on the move and now after everything that had happened she felt...lost. Lost in an unfamiliar world with unfamiliar people.

She needed something, anything to help her feel like everything she cared for wasn't slipping away from her.

The Raiju, Lord of Lightning

Physical status:
No physical injuries whatsoever, ‘as fine as a fiddle’ as one may say.

Mental Status:
Distracted… busy within his own mind

Current Location:
Dragon’s Bane Camp

The Dragon’s Bane… there are many titles given to them from others that had the misfortune of crossing paths with them. Cutthroats, good for nothing raiders, a plague upon this planet. And they would be right in some ways. But for those who label others merely based on the actions they have performed and not the reasons as to why they did such would be considered ignorant as to how the world truly works. In a world such as this… there can never be a concrete ‘right’ or ‘wrong’… merely individuals attempting to to try and survive out in this frozen hellscape that they call home. And for individuals such as him… he’ll see it fit that those underneath his watch shall survive… no matter what he has to sacrifice in the process.

Within the Dragon’s Bane camp, activity was a given… after all, with their ‘leaders’ having gone on out to begin scouting the location of the Silver Deer’s own camp, it wasn’t hard to tell that a raid was soon to occur. And yet… deeper within the camp, laid nine individuals all sitting around a campfire. It wasn’t hard to tell that this group was experience, the heavy looking armor they wore on their body as well as the way they held themselves… preparing for combat. There was various actions that each member of the group was performing, some were sharpening their swords using whetstones, others were polishing their shields with some oils… and the rest were talking in a strange language that was certainly not English, although the all familiar sounds of laughter can be heard. It was as if they didn’t consider what was arriving to be something serious… either that, or they are making the best of they can before being sent straight into the frontline.

However, there was one notable individual sitting amongst the group, and they ere hard to notice. The first thing that was notable was his rather large size compared to his fellow member… combined with the glowing yellow dots in the ‘darkness’ of the visor man’s gas mask. From time to time, electricity can be seen sparking across the man’s armor… as if he was constantly radiating with energy that he couldn’t fully suppress. But despite his rather frightening appearance… the man was sitting right on the log away from his members… holding a teddy bear in his left hand. Staring at the teddy bear, the Raiju did nothing more than look right at the two button eyes of the stuffed animal… the teddy bear having some tears along it but it seemed to be mostly stitched up. There was many things going through his head as he stared right at the Teddy Bear… sadness… anger… regret… an cocktail of emotions flowing within him, and yet, he remained as stoic as every, unflinching as he weathered the cold snow outside.

He was simply waiting until it was time to begin their assault… or if someone were to go up and bother him. But the Raiju was sure that none would try and bother with one such as him, especially considering his demeanor right now. And well, for both their sakes and his own, the Raiju preferred it to be that way. But whether or not it remains true is yet to be seen…

Neoisi looked at the red capped girl sitting beside the fire. Wagging her tail, she smiled at the newcomer. The girl stood up and looked at Ruby.

"I think the food is going to be ready at any minute" Her soft voice sound through the camp, like a sweet melody "Do you want to help me as I bring the porringers? I am sure everyone is going to be happy if we served them. It was a long walk, after all. They deserve to relax a little"

Neoisi extended her arm to Ruby, inviting her to stand up and join her as she looked for bowls. The wolf looking girl always seemed to talk with a formal tone, like if she was part of the royal family. Sweet and kind, always tried to look after the Silver Deers, helping with simple chores so their eternal journey was less stressing. . .. For everyone.

Zenitsu was still on patrol duty near the reindeer's den.
"So...so cold in here. Why did they left me all alone? I know Inosuke cares alot for those reindeers. He's not even their owner! Yet he's gonna make me know it if something happens to them!" he added. He was alone once again. Would anyone come to see him and ask to join them?
He doubted it would happen. If only his closest friends were not on duty...

He felt so alone again...

  • Doe turned to look at Suitix, baffled and somewhat irritated that he would even suggest killing off his herd. Not only was it unnecessary and cruel, it was downright wasteful! There was no way they would be able to carry that much meat in their bags, most of it would have to be thrown away so they could keep moving. Besides, the deer were his friends! They had lives of their own, lives that mattered just as much as his or anyone else's lives mattered. It didn't help that they could, well, talk to him either. Killing in order to eat and survive was one thing, but killing and eating something that he just had a conversation with hours prior was an entirely different thing. Of course he couldn't say that, people would think he was crazy if he tried to explain it to them. Most people couldn't talk to animals like he could. They wouldn't understand.
He could never bring himself to kill any animal he spoke with, that's why he always sent others to do it for him when the time came. It was easier that way. It didn't make him feel any less bad about it though.
Doe took a deep breath, then sighed. He let his initial irritation subside before speaking. As tired and cranky as he was, Suitix was just a kid, he couldn't be mad at him for asking a genuine question. Even if the answer should be obvious by now. He didn't want to make the kid feel bad.
    "Its about sustainability, Suitix."
    Doe replied, calmly.
"We cant carry that much jerky on our backs, and even if we could, its not going to last forever. What will we do when we run out of meat?"
Doe paused to rotate the generous chunk of meat cooking over the fire. He had to wonder why Suitix was questioning his choice to keep the herd. This meat has been feeding him and the rest of the group since day one. Even if it was tough to maintain, the rewards it reaped were well worth it.
"Jerky will only last us a few months, a herd of reindeer can last for ages if properly cared for. So long as they stay alive and well, we will never have to worry about finding food ever."

He overheard someone mention dinner being ready. Seemed like people were getting hungry. Perfect timing. The meat was almost done.
"Dinner should be ready in just a minute--i appreciate the help dears."
He nodded gratefully at the two girls. He didnt like needing help, but it was nice to have sometimes. It gave him one less thing to worry about.

  • John stirred, slowly waking up as he heard the sound of conversation. He pulled himself into a sitting position, and opened his eyes.

"So, who's turn is it to guard now? I lost track." Came his raspy voice as he took out his cattlemen revolver and started cleaning it, a habit he devolved out of boredom.

It had been a while since he was separated from Abigail and Jack, leaving John wondering if they were still alive. It seemed to happen so fast, that John didn't have the chance to process what happened. He thought that he saw Arthur during the last raid that The Dragon's Bane did, but he wasn't certain through all the chaos. If Arthur was indeed around, it'd be nice to have a familiar face, but John didn't dare to get his hopes too high.

Link shook his head as Doe insisted on taking the first watch again, even though he had offered, then a convenient change of subject.
"Doe, let me take the first watch, you've been working yourself ragged. You need the rest more than I do." Link insisted. "Besides, my wolf form makes seeing in the dark and sensing threats easier."
Though Link could talk to animals as well, he wasn't as bothered about eating them. It was a part of the circle of life, one he'd gotten used to. And as long the life wasn't taken lightly, and you weren't wasteful, then it wouldn't be in vain, and they'd live on with you as energy. That was the comforting factor for Link in eating animals.

The spinning tails weren't silent as they bore the fox kit down from the bird's-eye view he'd kept over them. Brought him down, shoes sinking and crunching against that snow. Far enough away from the other Silver Deer near the dancing flames to have both crackling and the drone of voices drown out his descent. The situation was the opposite for his own ears as his tails muffled things to where he could only pick out a few words passing among the others.

Something that shouldn't have been a problem, Tails could've landed closer, but unease nudged him away from doing so. He hadn't shaken off the loneliness of missing Sonic and the others despite it being more than a few days since his arrival into this frozen world. He swallowed somewhat uselessly against what felt to be in his throat, only that did nothing as it didn't actually exist. Which Tails already knew wouldn't work and was moving over into the circle of heat emanating from the flames. Enveloping chilly fur as it began to slowly chase the cold away that had been soaked up while airborne. His thoughts did flicker, momentarily regretful that he could measure the actual temperature difference between the air and ground elevations.

But his approach got him close in time to catch the last remark Link made about his wolf form seeing better in the dark. Tails turned toward them. "It is already getting to be not good visibility."

Jill Valentine
Silver Deer camp, date unknown

Another long, freezing day was nearly over. Jill walked the camp perimeter, keeping her eyes open for any sign of life beyond the reindeer. She drew out a long, discontented sigh, her breath forming a cloud of vapor in front of her. When was this going to end? When could they all go back to their own worlds and see their friends and family again?

As she thought about needing to escape, a dreadful memory came to mind.

Raccoon City, 1998. Jill peered out the dirty window of the freshly abandoned warehouse. The street just outside was clear. "Okay... We've gotta get out of here."

A slightly rotund man—Dario—looked up at her in disbelief, cheeks stained with tears and outrage visibly building. "What... What do you think you're talking about? I just lost my daughter out there! HOW DARE YOU TELL ME TO GO BACK OUTSIDE!?"

Jill recoiled from the man's strong reaction, but soon rebutted his argument. "I'm sorry about your daughter... but there isn't gonna be any rescue. We have to get out of here!"

"NO! I'm not going anywhere... I would rather starve to death in here than be eaten by one of those undead monsters! NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Dario had given up hope of escaping and waited for the military to rescue him... a rescue that would never happen. He waited at that warehouse until the undead broke in and let him share his daughter's fate. Sad and ironic...

Was Jill really facing this again—the same situation, different day? These people, these Silver Deer, were barely surviving, awaiting the inevitable... and there she was among them.

The BSAA agent strode towards the campfire with purpose. Taking a seat in front of it, she started to address her concerns at last. "How many days has it been?" she questioned, rubbing her eyelids. "Feels like we're still at square one, doesn’t it? No closer to figuring this out than we were a few weeks ago."

Zenitsu sat near the campfire. It's heat the only thing enjoyable at the moment. His world might have been plagued by demons but at least there was still alot of good things. There is barely anything in this frozen world.
His haori could barely keep him warm.

He noticed Jill Valentine sitting nearby. Despite the woman being older then him and him desperatly keeping his feelings for Nezuko,Zenitsu blushed at the sight of the agent.
The young demon slayer heard the agent voicing her concerns.
"I stopped counting." he replied. "I have to agree. We are indeed going back to square one. " He sighed. "The last thing I want is to die in this frozen wasteland..."
He could hear Inosuke's screams and laughs from where he was. At least someone was happy.Maybe it wasn't so tough for Inosuke due to him growing up in the wild...

  • Doe paused, considering Link's rebuttal. He had a point. Link could see in the dark, and, admittedly, Link was also better rested than he was, if only be a little. He was better suited for the job. The leader was silent, listening as the others spoke amongst eachother, and more members returned to camp. Doe felt a twinge of guilt as Jill and Zenitsu spoke of finding the cause of.. well, all this. Everyone was tired and cold. It was miserable. As hard as Doe tried to keep everyone's moral up, he could only do and say so much. Doe was supposed to lead this group, he was supposed to help them go home. Yet Doe didn't have the slightest clue about what he was doing.
All he was trying to do was survive, he wasn't meant to be a leader. So how in blazes did did he end up as one?
"Don't you talk like that, we ain't gonna die here."
Doe said, then quieter, as if talking to himself, he added,
    "Not while im still breathin'."
Doe pulled the meat off the fire. He placed the spit on a makeshift rack a few feet away. He began counting each member at the camp, making sure everyone was accounted for.
Doe pulled out his dagger and began cutting pieces of roasted venison into the porringers set up nearby.
"Dinner is ready, come get it while its hot!"
    He announced to the camp.
Doe glanced over at Link, who was still waiting for his reply. He hesitated, but eventually said.
"...Alright Link, since you insist, you can have first watch."
He wish he could put up more a fight about it, but Doe was too exhausted to argue, which only further proved Link right. He needed to at least try to sleep.

Silver Deer camp, evening

Jill flashed a stern glance at Zenitsu. Though she cited their lack of progress in finding answers, she was not about to humor the slightest thought of death. "No one's going to die. Period," she enunciated deliberately, bolstering Doe's assurances. "I have some ideas, but we should all get enough sleep before we tackle planning and prep." It was true; the tired brain wasn't suitable for plotting major actions like those she had in mind.

"Second watch is mine, then," she contributed before taking her share of the cooked venison.
