I thought this was a thing already but here we go. Nothing too bad or triggering, feel free to challenge an opinion

All narcotics should be legal, and monitored and regulated by the government.

"Everyone deserves due process, regardless of who they are and what they're accused of doing" seems to be a surprisingly controversial opinion these days.

Especially among the crowd who claims to want a "small government".

If nothing else, even someone completely devoid of empathy for their fellow man should realize how this shit can just as easily be turned against them.

audiobooks arent reading they’re listening; like listening to a podcast

I have many and I would probably be crucified if I shared the vast majority of them here. I'll start with some of the least controversial: the GTA series is pretty over-rated and pineapple on pizza is actually very good. Okay, I lied, that second one is definitely controversial.

Disagree with this only inasmuch as I've seen it treated as 'less than' reading with your eyes, and I think that does a disservice to, among others, folks who are blind or visually impaired. It is a different mechanism, but just as valid a way to take in a story, and the same goes for short story podcasts as well.

(Now, where do you draw the line between 'reading' and 'listening to a scripted, but not narrative, podcast'? As a fan of history podcasts, I have NO idea where I'd place that separation, but I do think there's a difference - just not something I'm personally able to articulate.)

I'll piggyback on the mention of football above with two controversial opinions which may at first seem contradictory:
1. All professional/commercial sports are overrated (yes, including ones I like)
BUT
2. Professional and college athletes are often under-compensated and wildly exploited, and deserve labor rights

If you're mad about "the collapse of literacy" in the US (at least) but:

  • Don't read challenging books,
  • Only read light or YA fiction only because it makes them feel better about being queer, or they're still actually young (not that queer fiction is bad but if you're only reading some YA book because the protags are the OwO kind of gay you are the problem),
  • Comic books and graphic novels exclusively; Marvel fans are adult kindergartners

Also:
  • If you don't go to the live theater,
  • If you do go to the live theater, it's only for the same Live-Action musicals everyone goes to because they have children,
  • Your movie consumption is predicated that every season for the movies is for light movies

You have no legs to stand on so just keep quiet and read your stuff as a mid-late 20 something. But if you ARE shocked no one older than 16 has gone beyond material written for anyone younger than 16 you ideally have to not be building your entire personality around comic books, Wicked, and Harry Potter or any writing like Harry Potter not associated with the TERF/Racism lady.

I really don't like generative AI. I wish it would go away completely. Never have liked it at all. It's not remotely good looking like at all and all of it just looks completely the same and soulless.

I think it's fine for generating ideas, but it's definitely not actual art and people really need to stop treating it as such. So yes, I agree.

Generative AI needs more regulations, especially for copyright, ethical, and energy consumption concerns. Also, I don't think generative AI will ever replace writers/humans. It'll never have the human aspect of writing, and job loss in writing has been minimal. I don't think AI will improve a crazy bunch, especially with model collapse (I could go on about AI I just finished reading a few books about it lol)

I guess this isn't really all that controversial, but public speaking should be a skill that's taught all the way through PK-12 grade, even if a student has an anxiety disorder

here's another one feel free to crucify me over this
AI is only okay if you're not getting money out of it. I think AI is okay when you are making ideas, RPing with, and MAYBE using on tests

Minors who don't understand why some adult roleplayers don't want to roleplay with minors are usually guilty of the exact type of behavior that many adult roleplayers want to avoid (not to mention that some people are simply uncomfortable when roleplaying with someone who is significantly younger, but I digress).

A lot of times when looking at their profiles on roleplaying forums and sites, I noticed a lot of childish drama, oversharing, edgy behavior, and general immaturity. And/or a complete disregard for the fact that preferences exist (romance or platonic roleplays, shorter or longer replies, and so on) and that not every roleplay has to be open for anyone. Yes, I know the feeling of seeing a really cool roleplay search and then realizing that there is a requirement that I can't fulfill. But trying to debate these requirements (no matter if it is age, the character the other person is looking for, reply length...) doesn't help at all. Especially when it comes to age, it just makes you look super immature.

The only minor I roleplayed with recently was super understanding of people who have the requirement that their roleplaying partner has to be 18+, and surprise, they were exactly the type of roleplayer that is really as mature as they claim to be.

Controversial opinions below

Adobe Illustrator is difficult to do artwork on. Also, Steam should really make some of their games more Apple-friendly.

Just because someone is emo, scene, or goth doesn't make them depressed. AI is useful for some things but if you actually publish AI stuff you deserve the hate. History is the most useless subject. Pineapple on pizza sounds fine. Tomato's are vegetables
