The Forgotten Swarm

The sleep had not been kind to the Swarm, they had not been the swarm when they had entered, the island had only just become a red zone and there had been no firestorm crisis. Tratos had only just died and the island had felt all hope vanish. It had been a desperate situation and a desperate solution had been devised. Their mutations were killing them, the crystals that made them more than human had been poisoning them as much as they sustained them. It had been Ryr as he was now called, a madman even then, that they had turned to for salvation if anyone could save them it was him. Thus had the agreed to become more than human, more than mutants, they would be something new. They would be at home even in red zones, and no longer suffered from the infection of crystals that sought to kill them, but they would be Ryr's tests subjects and any vestiges of humanity would be stripped. Thus had the island fallen silent all humans that had managed to survive slowly changing in vast fleshy chrysalises, their bodies melting down as their genes were sequenced into new forms. Not all of them had emerged with females being oddly favored in survival, but Ryr had told them that not all would make them thanks to their mutations and not all would be the same because of that as well.

They had awoken in Spring, but with what they had become, there had been chaos, their had been deaths, and it took awhile before the final part had awoken. Zysal the will and swarm queen. Ryr had sought to improve on humanity and where better than allowing one to force their will upon others, create a queen that could could not control the minds of others but force them to stand down regardless. With someone to bring order to the chaos the swarm had started to build up. They no longer used steel and concrete to build as muscle and chitin were used in their stead altered to be just as strong. Still there was division, all that had been human still had their mind or at least most of it and some spoke louder than others. The council of old had reformed no longer ruling as equals but as advisors and guides to the queen. There was little power lust for the group as never in their lives had they truly sought it. They would work together and knew they could never truly splinter, they were a swarm after all.

" We should be out there , thee is a new war going on " Tryish said all the others feeling her aggression as much as they heard her words " We can no sit idle while Nod goes about destroying everything" She continued her hate of the cultists still undiminished.

" Kaine is dead GDI killed him what is out there are just the remains" Salhek countered they had gathered some of the history of the past few years. The death of Kaine, the attack of Cabal, the fire storm they had slept through. " We should not get involved in that mess you are not GDI anymore Tryish" Salhek had often taken swiped verbally at Tryish even before the change they had butted heads. Tryish was a military woman with fire in her veins and Salhek was a caring politician.

" Then we should establish our power before and strike out at GDI before they regroup" Tryish suggested pouncing on what she saw as an opportunity to repay GDI for abandoning her. To her Salhek was to soft to willing to forget and forgive, if kane came and said he was sorry Tryish felt Salhek would forgive him.

" Forty five" A much deeper masculine voice said managing to somehow drown out the other two with it's presence. Ryr had little interest in the two fighting each other over what to do. They did it far to often, conflict was good it helped promote growth and change, but these two would stop everything with their infighting.

" What?" Tryish asked honestly confused

" You have repeated this or a permutation of this argument forty five times before without ever being able to come to a compromise. I suggest you ask the queen for direction we are now ready to chose how we will develop" Ryr pointed out not only to the other two leaders but to the fourth person in the room who had been watching what to her was another repeat of the same dull argument.

Zysal sighed rubbing her temples. She had the voices of everyone and all the mutated creatures of the swarm running through her head at all times. She had all the power, but she also had all the understanding . The swarm could feel each other's emotions through a strange link many could even speak to one another only using their minds, but Zysal held a far stronger connection created to apparently allow her to be a better leader or something. it caused her a headache and that was not made any better by the bickering. This fight had repeated even during the humans days and they had only managed to do anything because Zysal had been there, perhaps that was why she had become the queen Ryr wanted a unifier to lead them.

" Ryr is right you two fight to much over this topic, you could at least vary it up" Zysal said her annoyance evident in her words " Tryish you are right we can not just sit around and do nothing" At these words Tryish smiled " But" The smile vanished " We are not yet ready do you plan to take on all of GDI with a hand full troops you have never even lead before?" That was something that had never actually come up Tryish had experience with humans not with the swarm.

" I my queen we ... I ... I was over zealous" Tryish stammered out looking like a scolded child much to the delight of Salhek. though that joy turned to dread as Zysal looekd to her.

" Do not think you are innocent in this Salhek " Zysal said " i know you would allow all who wish to come here and would make not defenses you are as Tryish claims to soft in these matters" now Salhek was the one looking scolded " however in this case you are right we need to build up, but not just to build up we need to build so we can make a military"

This was enough of a compromise to at least keep either feeling like the other had won and it was with will of the queen thus it was what they would do. They would need to build so they coudl have more troops to keep their people safe and perhaps strike out against those that had abandoned and betrayed them

" My queen" Ryr interjected, he was the only one not getting scolded so was in a way the real winner " We are lacking several key resources perhaps Salhek can device the proper bioforms to remedy this situation while Tryish commands a few scouting missions"

" You managed to speak a full sentence without mentioning evolution or progress miracles do happen" Zysal said the other two chuckling a little though Ryr didn't take it personally .

" We must test for defects before we can progress and have supplies before we evolve" Ryr said a faint feeling of amusement felt by all from him

Zysal sighes and rubbed her temples again of course that was his reasoning " Still that is the best suggestion Salhek go work with Ryr to grow what we need Tryish send some units out to explore"

" Yes my queen" all three said and soon the four split up the course set.

VENOM CELL

"Defenses are steep." The light patter of acid rain danced off the ramshackle roof of he Venom Cell's newest lodgings as Nelson gave his report on the situation at Bilbao. "They still have some of the defenses from the last war operational, and some militia on the side. It could be tough." He moved a handful of loose metal pieces meant to represent different units on a large old road map that had come to be the main projection for the venom cell's strategic operations not long after they'd found it in an abandoned gas station.

"Tough." Crotala agreed, before sliding into a deadly grin. "But not nearly as much as they once were. Radio the crop duster unit, we'll give those towers something to think about." She moved a small metal chip with an plane scratched into near the city, then looked toward the pieces that represented her dogs. "Have the the Hounds try to draw the militia away if possible before the planes arrive. If they start the fight thinking it's nothing more than a disorganized raid they might be willing to make some bolder moves, and we can try to ambush the infantry with the trucks and finish them off quickly." A few more chips moved around on the board. "Send the packs still in reserve here, as well as the salvaged titan to support them, No doubt they have more squads waiting inside the walls." Nelson nodded. He had his doubts, of course. In all his experience, this was far to bold a move to be making this early in the campaign, but Crotala was a war leader and her people needed to know that she was willing to fight. Even if they failed to take the city, any casualties they could inflict would be seen as a victory after running for so long, so long as she knew when to call the retreat.

"Very good, that resolves the military situation for now." He rolled out a smaller map, drawn up of the settlement and its surroundings. "Now onto the domestic."

With the power situation handled, the cell needed to begin amassing greater resources, both in terms of raw tiberium and the money to by more weapons. For now they would focus on further expanding their tiberium supply

Barry sat on the passenger side of the RV, the motor home parked slightly ski whiff to grant him a better vantage point of the city in the distance. The stoic second in command had volunteered to go to San Fernando to hopefully establish good relations with the neighboring city, bringing along the charming Carrie and the talented Tanner. While Carrie flew overheard, monitoring and relaying the scouting party's progress, Tanner sat next to him on the drivers side of the RV, drumming away at the dashboard as they waited.

Boon had been hesitant, if not downright angry, at trying to make contact with their metropolitan neighbor, the situation with the scientist greatly souring his opinion on other people. His plan was to fortify Cadiz, using everything and anything they had at their disposal but Barry was more level headed. "We can't do this all alone" he had stated to the Commander, when he was proposing his idea.

But Kratt was having none of it, simply storming off without another word. "So we going?"

Conman slipped out of the shadows, undoubtedly eavesdropping. Barry nodded. "Find Carrie. I'll round up some men"

"You got it!" exclaimed Con, diving back into the shadows.

So here they were in their present situation, the three trying to establish good relations with San Fernando. Though Barry was cautious, bringing along the two Humvee's, who sat silently and invisibly nearby, in case things went south.

"And take it Barry!"

Tanner stopped his drumming for a moment to allow Barry to join in, though he remained motionless, keeping his eye out for the scouting parties return. After a few seconds of waiting, Con started up again, though he seem to be getting bored of his own antics now as a minute later he let out a final cry. "Drum solo!"

Bashing the dash board like a tantruming child, Con quickly finished his antics and after a brief pause, got on the radio to the Hercules above. "Anything new Carrie?" he asked.

"Nothing yet, pet"

Letting out a bored sigh, he looked around the cab of the RV for something to do, coming up short. "Well I'm gonna pop out for a mo, straighten up the old tie and suit. Don't want to look unseemly for my adoring public." he said, turning to Barry.

Barry kept his vigil however, not uttering a word in response. With a shrug, Tanner opened the door and hopped out.

MACHINE BAPTISTS
With the construction of the Pipeline finally completed, Vladimir had swiftly made his way to the Hidden Temple, watching with child-like glee as the lights turned on and the screens booted up as the mighty monument was roused from its slumber. He turned his attention briefly away from the monitors and to the faceplate he held in his hand.

It was but one of several items recovered by his men from a mysterious spire located not far from their base but for Vladimir it was by far the most fascinating. The faceplate looked uncannily similar to the one previously worn by Kane, in fact it even stood to be the very same one and although Vladimir's faith told him that it was most certainly the case, that in his hands he held the true faceplate of Kane, in order to prove it decisively, it would require further research and therefore more resources than he could currently muster. So, in the interim, Vladimir decided to encapsulate the faceplate and put it on display so all who followed him could marvel at its majesty and know that their cause was true while he focused himself on goals currently within his reach.

In order to divert more power to the temple, the Nod Commander had deactivated the Nehemiah Walls around his base as well as the Stealth Generator at Base Gamma. Tucked safely away underground, the Hidden Temple was just that and, therefore, Vladimir saw little point keeping the Stealth Generator running for now. Anyone who wondered within view of Gamma now would most likely see the abandoned husks of the few remaining buildings topside, hardly something warranting close inspection, and simply move on. But, if, for whatever reason, they did decide to investigate, they would be cut down by a devastating barrage of fire from the Shredder Turrets stationed around the base, thanks to the newly energised temple. Nevertheless, the Temple still needed more power if Vladimir wanted to fully uncover its secrets and, fortunately at least, in that regard, he had already starting putting plans into motion.

Initially, he had been so caught up with their discovery of the Hidden Temple that he had failed to recognise that when he and his followers first arrived at Base Gamma, the Stealth Generator was already active. That had to mean that it, as well as the rest of the base at some point, must of had its own power supply. With the Pipeline finally finished, this fact subsequently dawned on the Nod Commander and, upon prompting, Agent R revealed the location of a Power Plant at Gamma. Fallen into disrepair, it was no wonder the Baptists missed it upon their original inspection, the deteriorating structure blended right in with the rest of the dilapidated buildings. However, R informed them that, although it had functioned up until recently, the plant had broken down shortly after their arrival and would need significant repairs in order to become operational again. Vladimir was eager to satisfy the hungry temple and ordered his followers to begin overhauling the deteriorated structure so that it may once again provide power to Base Gamma, and, more importantly, the Hidden Temple.

CPL. MARIE "ANTEATER" DUBOIS
Zaragoza Remnants

Way to sell the understatement of the century Admin, Dubois thought as she accompanied Administrator Elodia Avila around the newly assembled MCV. The building was a two story high glorified warehouse with a massive arm really, but the intricacies lay deep within the earth, where the machines assemble needed materials. On the surface though, it was a simple affair.

Being around the bureaucrat was nerve wracking. She walked like she owned the dirt, with a swagger not fit for a graveyard as she held a stack of papers and ticked things off lazily with a pen. Thankfully though, Admin was a woman of her word; Dubois had received nothing but kindness so far, and never a lack of security despite the nervous glances zaragoza locals steal their way.

“Any news of the convoy?” She heard Admin ask, her voice had a natural grasp on people’s attention.

“None. Why do you ask?” Dubois replied.

“They’re not responding to the radio, I’m beginning to become antsy.” Right, antsy. Admin said, as she observed the massive steel beams erected from the ground, casually tapping the back of her pen like she was buying watermelons from the market. “I fear the scientist may just attract others’ attention as well, not just us and my biggest fear would be sending our people without proper equipment and numbers.”

Why was she sharing this with her? Dubois felt strange, was Admin simply making small-chat? Or is there some kind of unseen game at play? Whatever it was, Dubois was confident she would lose this game.

Sending Reiner’s humvee with a handful of people and a technical wasn’t exactly a force to be reckoned with, but it was fast. Anything less than a jet and they’d get dusted. Still, GDI and NOD could stake a claim. Dubois exhaled, faintly aware her hand was trembling. She hoped Reiner and the others had the common sense of retreating if NOD or GDI came into play.

“I’m confident they’re fine. Reiner is a great driver.” Dubois said.

Admin said nothing, the clicks and clacks of her heels meeting solid steel flooring as they entered the MCV yard. Arches wrought of steel scraping the sky like claws. Dubois wasn’t familiar with this old design, it was pure luck they could even get the thing running if she was honest. They passed two blue overalls standing nearby, catching themselves in a half-salute at Admin before noticing Dubois silently trailing behind her. They gave her an apologetic nod.

“Nevertheless,” Admin finally said as they ascended a spiral staircase, “If our expedition west goes awry we must prepare for the worst.” Dubois cringed internally “We must prepare for an invasion from the west, NOD or Forgotten--” Click, clack and her footstep stop. Admin glanced over her shoulder, “Even GDI.” A shiver rolled down Dubois’ back.

The Summer heat has come to the Iberian Peninsula. To some, the heat can be unbearable, but to the natives, it was just a new normal. The tropical beaches in ages past would have been a great draw of tourists, but that was in ages past. Those sorts of events really only happen more on the Western End of the Continent, where GDI has been developing a Blue Zone. Most of Spain is a Tiberium filled wasteland, even the better areas. A Yellow Zones through and through.

The Forces of Nod seem to keep expanding. The Various Warlords have been growing in strength, but it is only a matter of time until they come in conflict with each other for ownership of the True Leadership of Nod, the next successor of Kane.

It seems that the forces of GDI are beginning to have problems keeping order within the Iberian peninsula. There is talk that if these issues persist, they might have to pull back to the Blue Zones and only patrol the borders with pacifier squads.

It is recommended that you attempt to reach out to the population in order to rectify any lingering issues or doubts as to the sincerity of GDI. Yuri
The Great Healer
New Men

Yuri examines the images in his office that overlooked his compound, the windows tinted currently to let him focus on the intelligence that has come in from his Forgotten forces in place at the airfield. He ponders the situation before tapping controls, bringing up a display of force composition. He smiles to himself a bit grimly as he sees where he can make his move and remain unseen. The Forgotten who had joined with him were perfect for this, combined with a bit of salvaged heavy armor he'd found with his prized research facility. He flips a switch so that Alpha's masked face appears on one of his screens.

"Yes, Leader?" Alpha asked with the salute of a clenched fist to he chest.

"Alpha, dispatch the Devil's Tongue to our new friends with orders to proceed with attacking the airfield. The sooner we seize and control it, the better. I'm entrusting you with this operation. Go with the tank and oversee the takeover of the airfield. Our friends need guidance, after all," Yuri noted with cold smile.

"It shall be done, Leader!" Alpha bows his head before his image vanished, replaced by analytical data they'd recently developed on Tiberium harvesting. It was more procedure than anything else which was perfect. He has forces in position to harvest the Blue Tiberium sitting to their north with no need for a harvester system in place just yet. Yuri flips another switched to as an image of Beta appears, his own masked face a bit more worn from his field work.

"Yes, Leader, how may I help you?" His own metallic voice a bit more gruff than Alpha's as he performed a similar salute.

"Beta, I want you to take the refine harvesting data and go north. Recall our troops form the Highway to you and have them harvest and bring me as much of that Blue Tiberium as you can. You have more field experience so I'm entrusting this to you. Have Delta deal with scouting for the time being. Sweep East discreetly and South beyond that curious beach. We must continue to collect data for my work," Yuri said with a more amused grin.

"At once, Leader!" Beta declared with a a nod and vanishes from the screen.

Yuri sighs happily as he stands and hits another switch to shift the tint on his windows off to look out at the compound. He pulls out a communicator and dials a code he'd gotten his hands on. It beeps to denote a pickup.

"What do you want?" demands a voice on the other end.

"I have work for you. And I have the funds. Are you interested?" Yuri asked as he watches his compound in motion.

"You have our attention, provide coordinates and we'll come see. Have our initial payment ready." The line goes dead.

Yuri pulls the communicator away from his ear and looks at it in amusement.

"Another piece for the board..."

He then stops as he looks towards the news report on one of his screens and hears the words 'tiberium' and 'research' come across his thought process. Yuri approaches that screen and the volume turns upon at his mental command. His eyes focused on the screen with a rather ominous interest in his expression as he starts to set his other monitors to scan channels for more news reports and data on this situation.

"How delightful... I must know more..."

MACHINE BAPTISTS
Vladimir was sitting down at the large situation table in the Hidden Temple's conference room, looking over a series of reports. In recent months, he had begun spending more and more time in the colossal structure and less time in his private chambers within the Church of Kane so he had decided, after careful consideration, to instruct one of his apostles, Yuliana, to sequester herself in an alcove of the church he had often used for quiet contemplation, so she could begin a solitary life of intense study and prayer. Vladimir hoped the endeavour would lead to great insights and divinations from the woman and, in the process, lead to considerable strides in their research. The fervent Yuliana did not hesitate to answer her Commander's edict, eager to serve the Machine Baptists in anyway she could.

According to one of the reports, it seemed Bratko and his Repentant had performed well during their excursion to a village to the south, garnering more converts to the cause. The scarred squad leader had a way with words that almost equalled his Commander's but it came as little surprise, for the man was one of Vladimir's oldest and most devout acolytes. And yet, despite Bratko's loyalty and dedication, he had forever been denied the rite of Ascension by Vladimir. The exact reason why was unclear for neither man would speak of it; Bratko out of reverence for his Commander and Vladimir out of sheer contempt for the veteran soldier but they were rumours abound, albeit in hushed whispers, amongst the rank and file of the camp about what it might be.

There was also another welcome, if unexpected, development from the Baptists jaunt to the small southern settlement. Whilst conversing with the residents, one of the villagers had shared with Bratko, and the assembled men, the location of a mine not too far from the village. As it turned out, mining for precious minerals was the settlement's primary form of income and they were willing to contribute whatever they could in order to support the Machine Baptist's cause.

Further south, Scouts had spotted a convoy of vehicles moving down the highway. Vladimir suspected the convoy may have something to with that foul pretender from Malaga, Garzola, and instructed some of his followers to explore the area and ascertain more. Though he wasn't prepared to face the warlord head on just yet, the time drew ever closer when he would finally make his move. The Hidden Temple was almost fully energised now and once it was, then all would know that he was the one, true prophet of Kane.

The Forgotten Swarm

With the first exploration done the main council once more met to think over what had been learned from it. The island was not as dead as some might expect as despite being a red zone now it still had larger organic life. The forgotten could survive tiberium for a time and tiberium beasts could do the same, yet years in the hellish red zones in theory should have driven out all but the smaller creatures due to lack of food. Well tiberium was like that no one understood it completely and the swarm had adapted to feed off it so why couldn't other creatures?

" That was certanly an odd climax to the fight Zysal said still just as confused at the others about the change in location and lost time in the fight.

" Could be tiberium messing with space time" Ryr offered though no one was exactly confident in that answer not even him. He was even now looking over the sample of the beast Tryish had brought back and trying to find useful traits he did not already know in it's DNA.

" Perhaps our resident god can enlighten us" Salhek said with a chuckle. All had known Tryish's thoughts when she had experienced the skip and now many had started to joke about it. She had thought perhaps she had godhood, but nope she had nothing and it had just been one freaky experience. Still this had played in Salhek's favor as it had brought some caution to Tryish and had her acting less war hawkish than normal. They had lost a warrior group and while they were disposable it was a blow they needed time to recover from and to recover they needed to build.

" Oh shut up about that you were just as confused as me and with how those nod idiots go on and on about it being divine and ascension it was a good guess" Tryish retorted her tone sharp as ever though all could feel her embarrassment and see her face darken with it. " This just means we need to explore more and find out if anymore creatures exist one the island" and it came back to fighting not even the experience with the monster and the skip could stop her from wanting a fight.

" Exploration would be wise, we could find more disturbances and study them learn how to use them " Ryr asserted joining as firmly as he would anything Tryish's side on the matter of more exploration.

"Do you really think there will be more disturbances?" Zysal asked already thinking of what they would be doing for the next while. They needed to explore that was for sure but she doubted there would be more such breaks in reality.

Ryr shrugged and shook his head " I do not have enough data to tell we have one case and that is not enough to draw true conclusions. I am hopeful there will be more, we would be the first to learn of them"

Of course he would only think of what could be learned and not of the danger, that was another thing they needed some defense, well that could wait they were mostly safe in their base hidden in the ruins of the city. If the walls had managed to hold they might have more defense but they had long crumbled and were useless. The last month had taught them their current bottleneck was energy they needed it and if they wanted to sell weapons they needed a port.

" Very well Tryish go for a walk take those you think you need" she said before looking to Salhek " And you get another reactor growing and try to grow a port " then her attatrion shifted to Ryr " And get with Koth to breed more of his swarms add it whatever you think works"

Yes my queen" The three said in unison

Mariana Vásquez stared at an empty space at her desk, the old, rich mahogany wood was worn down by the sands of time and as the smoke slowly drifted up from the cigarette held precariously between her fingers, she idly wondered how long it had been there. Had it been there before the rise of Nod? Before Tiberium? Was it a relic of the old days, when Spain was a great power that spread it's vision around the world? Did it sit in this spot when the Umayyad controlled this city? When their fingers had wrapped around the peninsula throat? Or was it something scavenged from a nearby building just prior to her arrival? Perhaps something 'new' that had been artificially age to look old and nice, done so by some old conman who earned a few extra credits that night. She had not the faintest idea of what it was, and more over, she didn't truly want to know. The mystery of it, the pondering on to each and every object, how far back they reach into her history, if they did at all, was a needed diversion. A silly game she could play in her head when she felt stressed or needed a few moments to gather herself.

"My lady," A soft voice called and her eyes flicked to the doors of her office, to the small child in the doorway, clean and wearing rather nice, well-fitting clothing stood, hair pulled down over one eye as if trying to hide something that should not have to be hidden, "Mr. O-Ortega called and said everything was fine, they're joining."

"Thank you, mijo, go get something to eat and head to bed, we have an early day tomorrow," Mariana said, offering the young page a smile as he turned and scampered out of vision.

A village had joined under her, such a small thing, unimportant in the grand scheme, but it was a step. A step towards unification. The single act of others joining her banner meant she had more legitimacy then she had yesterday. A small thing, just the 'belief' that someone has the right to it, but it held so much power. So many people followed orders or rules because of the belief they were supposed to even if there was nothing around to stop them or rebuke them should they fail. It was an act that gained steam and momentum as it went, the more that joined her, the stronger she became, the more 'truth' she represented, but she needed even more then that. She needed recognition. She needed people to recognize her and her banner before even having met her. To the frighetened civilians out there, the people of former Spain, they needed another banner to flock to. At the moment, all they had was their local warlords.. and the only known names were GDI and Nod. GDI, who had abandoned them and Nod, the defeated terrorist.. Such hope both offered. But if she could bring forth a third option, well, that carried so much risk, a great target planted on her back, but also... so much promise.

Mariana brought the cigarette back to her red lips as her eyes fell to the paper on her desk, the orders to R&D... Orders to bring her voice and image to all of Spain, to create a new face for people to recognize, for people to join.. An order that carried more risk then anything she had ever done, but such promise.. Was it worth it? Possibly not, but where was the fun without a little risk, after all?

central consense hummed to itself softly it hadn't seen Sinclair in a week and was half starting to worry they had a seemingly left base for some unknown reason, faith and fervour assumed it to be a test consensus agreeing that it had clearly been something odd and unlike Sinclair, so they'd continue there good work fulfilling a suggestion by there underlings Wraith and fervour working in conjunction to repair and assemble a stockpile of old tick tank installing AI's into the chassis and ye still Sinclair didn't show... central consensus was absolutely sure their would have been a reaction.. yet.. there wasn't the AI continued to wait.. another day passed another week afterwards sitting around almost bored yet so tempted to begin planning as each cluster contained to chit chat about the same thing over and over with lack of new information to process. then Sinclair finally showed themselves walking back into the command centre like nothing happened "aaah consensus the Blackhand has decided you.. are more trustworthy then previously assumed keeping to orders even without direct supervision and the assumption you were being watched? perfectly acceptable" he'd say with a slightly less grumpy tone

"Ok so what the hell is that!?"
0c7e426384f12dff6064567937040b9c.jpg

Sitting a few feet away from them, right out in the open was a strange spindly creature, it's tiberium spikes almost glowing as the sunlight glistened off the precious crystals. It looked to be sunning itself on a loose crate, though the fact that it seemed to be surrounded by a few cracked containers gave the impression that they hadn't been the first to see the Tiberian thing. The two women had had the same reaction after all, the crate they were carrying laying lopsided on the ground.

With Paquita's exclamation, the creature stirred, flipping around into an upright position and straddling the crate as if ready to pounce. Without hesitation, Mabel stood between her daughter and the mutant as it bared it's fangs. Other spindly creatures quickly began to appear from almost out of nowhere as if sensing a threat. Even with the bladed backup, Mabel held her ground, staring stalwartly at the lead creature. The dome headed devil hissed at the pair and so Mabel replied in kind. "Shoo! Shoo!"

Paquita would have been embarrassed at her mums display, if she wasn't so terrified, as Mabel waved her hands like she was wielding a dishrag against a fickle cat. Though these creatures were nothing like housecats, they were more like Aliens.

Neither side seemed to want to back down in this almost surreal standoff, but after a few minutes, the spike covered savage seemed to back off, turning it's back on the two women and resumed sunning itself. Paquita let out a deep sigh, readjusting her glasses as she looked at her mother who watched as the other creatures began to paw at the crates.

"Nerves of steel, mum" said Paquita, in a mixture of disbelief and awe.

Mabel turned to her daughter, and looked her straight in the eye as she spoke, her voice cracking. "Here's the deal, Peanut. You better watch out for these creatures"

She stared intently into Paquita's eyes, waiting for her sometimes rebellious eighteen year old daughter to nod. "Good, well we better tell someone about these things"

"What about that covert action team?" chirped up Paquita.

Mabel looked at her daughter in utter confusion "Those forgotten mercenaries?" clarified her daughter, almost with an eye roll.

Though she could understand and appreciate her little Peanut's reasoning for asking the Lost, Mabel had used up all her courage for today, preferring to talk to a friendly face. "We'll tell Del"

Paquita's face lit up at the mention of the man's name, her eye's glittering behind her spectacles, as she gave an enthusiastic nod. They subtlety made their way away from the spindly creatures, leaving the crate they had been carrying where it was, though the Tiberian things didn't seem to care either way. Looking back over her shoulder, Paquita gave a final look a the creatures Well they look tough as nails, so if all else fails, I guess we could call them....

As her eyes skimmed over the newly integrated facility, she was struck by a sudden burst of inspiration as she gazed back at the creature. WildCats!

1637251185786.png

The whole mutant settlement was caught up in a festive commotion; its denizens clapping and whistling along to the pulse of up-beat music welling out of the trumpets and guitars carried by the small band of musicians. They had all gathered outside under the stars to dance and celebrate their recent success, holding this feast to both Omar's and The Handler's good honour. Indeed, they had found hope in a future; and this marked the beginning of a new time for them and their children. Food was laid bare on tables and everybody got to eat their fill on this cool and cheerful night.

Lobo sat squeezed at one of the tables in between a family to his left and one of Omar's top engineers to his right, downing a plate of poultry as he watched the pairs of dancers twirl like dervishes in the centre of their town. He had kept his stylish fiend-leather cape on him for the event, never really intending on joining the festivities directly - he came mostly for the sake of the food and drink that otherwise used to be so bland. Strange that most people missed to recognize his part in bringing home the Handler, he thought. At least Omar had had the courtesy to thank him directly after his return. Alas, no mention of his or the pilot's work had been given at his public speech before the dance, and Lobo had no mind to beseech Omar for that now. He continued to watch the gleeful folk on the dance-ground, seeing now Omar moving together with one of the village-women through the crowd of mutants.

"How's the chicken, wolf-boy?" came Pancho's voice from behind him. Lobo turned his shoulders to meet him, greeted by the hideous, toothless smile of his master's favourite lackey. His breath had the scent of liquor about it.

"Not too bad, all things considered," Lobo answered unenthusiastically, washing down the dry meat with a sip of water. "So how much have you had to drink this evening? That swill's stench will amass fiends from miles away. Lay off with it, okay?"

Pancho tilted his head with a frown, sighed, "Tsk, tsk, tsk... Why do you have to be such a killjoy, eh? Pancho does not judge Lobo's questionable dressing habits, and so Lobo will not question Pancho's preference for good drinks. We respect each other here, not true?"

"I..." Lobo rolled his eyes and let out a sigh,
"Fine, we'll have it your way: the respectable way." He raised his glass to his lips again, returning his attention back to the party and music, trying his best to forget Pancho's presence.

"So where's the woman of the hour? I thought she'd join us tonight."

"The Handler?" Lobo asked. "Well, she's sitting away from the gathering - over there. Apparently, big celebrations ain't her thing, really, or maybe she just doesn't know any of us too well. In time, she might warm up, who can say?" he shrugged as Pancho finally walked away. It wasn't his business to pry, neither did he want to. She sat there alone by that table, brooding silently over something. Best not to involve oneself too deep in her private life, he thought. Just relax, have fun and enjoy the party.

Now where were the pork skewers and churros?

The Summer continues onwards, the blazing heat becoming the norm. That however does not stop the thoughts of various factions, ever growing in strength and coming closer and closer to confrontation.

The Forces of Nod seem to keep expanding. The Various Warlords have been growing in strength, but it is only a matter of time until they come in conflict with each other for ownership of the True Leadership of Nod, the next successor of Kane.

It seems that the forces of GDI are beginning to spread out in order to secure more land to protect from the encroaching NOD warlords that are outgrowing their bases.

Leon continues their quest to make beachfall, acquiring a base near a small village to the North in their effort unification of the country under their banner.

A woman in a smart looking black suit with Red accents and slicked back hair appeared on the screen. “This is Gabriella Santiagio of the Nod News Network. Warlord Garzola’s efforts have begun to pay off as the surrounding areas are now flocking to the cause of the Brotherhood. It is a wonderful time for those who feel the love of KANE.”

She turns to look at another camera. “To the North, The City of Pamplona’s reign has become more well known as the Revenant’s forces are beginning to close in on the city of Zaragoza. Will they be the next to follow this new Warlord and accept the welcoming hand of Nod? We can only hope that they will see reason.”- Nod News Network

Local News Update:

A man wearing a fancy suit is standing in the city of Leon. People in the background are celebrating. “We are gathered at the city of Leon, where the Magistrate, Mariana Vásquez has begun building an empire. According to the people, it is one that will stand the test of time against the likes of both GDI and NOD. Whether that will come to pass, only time will truly tell.”

The music in the background gets louder as the cheering does as well.
“However, if her people are any indication, they seem to think that she is the answer to the problem. Some in the community think that these actions will anger Nod Renegades, while others believe that it could attract unwanted attention from GDI. As for both of those answers, we were denied talking to a representative at this time……”

Mariana Vásquez smoothed a wrinkle on the hem of her dress as she sat, her legs crossed and her hands tucked in her lap. Her dark eyes scanned the room as she still tried to adjust to the light being shined in her face. Multiple cameras adorned the room, microphones held just out of the camera's view to capture her voice, multiple people ran back and forth in the shadow, impossible to make out behind the light's glare and, even if she could make them out, she doubted she could have remembered all their names and she hadn't made the effort to try. The work they'd done was impressive though, R&D had barely finished their work when the crews swooped in to begin the set up. She still didn't quite now how it was going to work, but they assured her it was and, well, she wasn't going to pretend to understand the mechanics of the ordeal. As a child, her father had taught her that she never needed to be the smartest in the room, she just had to be wise enough to listen to those that were.

"What?" Mariana asked as she leaned to the side to get some of the light off her face as one of the set producers motioned to her, a few moments passed before it clicked and she raised a delicate hand to brush her hair over her left ear, "Is it alright? Okay."

She had not quite expected so much attention before she had even made her address, but it worked in her favor. Some of her advisors had pushed her to speak to the various News teams that had flocked to their city, like wolves drawn by the scent of a wounded deer, but Mariana had decided not to. She needed to make as much of an impact as possible as soon as possible, first impressions were everything. For many people in Spain, it was all that mattered and if she made a bad one, she'd never get a second one. She closed her eyes and took in a slow, steady breath as she gathered herself and tried to calm her nerves. This would be broadcast over the old emergency channels of Spain, any television or radio still working would be able to pick up on it... Countless people would see and hear her. It was unsettling as it was exciting.

"My lady, we are ready to begin," a figure said from behind a camera, she could barely make out the hand he was holding up as he began to count down.

"Hello, I am Baroness Mariana Vásquez, Magistrate of León and servant of Spain. Some of you may know of me, many of you do not, and I beg that you give me just a bit of your time so that we may talk, you and I. Things have not gone well for our nation after the war, the Spain we knew is all but gone, only fragments remain led by Magistrate like me and others who have managed to ick out a living in the tiberium infested lands that were once our homeland. GDI, who were once our protectors and champions against the dark, have pulled back to the Blue Zones and left us here. Rumors say it is to restructure, to gather their strength and find a way to stop tiberium, and I pray that this is true, but that doesn't put food on our children's plates or protect us from the Nod rats that scurry in the dark. Defeated, their false messiah cast into hell where he belongs, yet still they plague our people. They feed on our fears, promising false hope until they have you so twisted up in their lies that you start to believe them. I do not blame any of you who have joined Nod, you did it to survive and protect your families, but Nod is a cancer. A festering wound that eats away at our people, and I will drive the rats from these lands if it is the last thing I do, I swear it," Mariana's voice held acid as she swore, her eyes alight with determination and a hint of hate that burned in the back of them.

She let it sit in the air for a moment before continuing, "I am here to ask for your help, we can save Spain, build a home for our friends and family, build a new start for our people, together. I know you're afraid. I know you may have done things you're not proud of to survive, things you'd rather forget, things that haunt you... but together we can change that. This is a new day for our people, a second chance for those who want it, for those who need it. I need you. Each and every one of you. Anything you can do to help, will help. Come to my home, help build your future with me," she finished as she brought her hands to her chest to cover her heart.

A figure came into the scene, a child holding a small teacup and plate, "Here you go, my lady," the small, shaky voice said.

"Thank you, Mijo," Mariana said offering a smile to try and calm the boys nerves as he turned and fled from the scene, as he did so, his face turned towards the camera, to reveal the mutation in his body from tiberium, the solid green eye, the cracks that went along his flesh, shown to the world. A forgotten child.

Mariana watched after him for a few seconds before turning back to face the cameras, "I know this will be unpopular with some, but I cannot pretend to be anything other then who I am. So, to those who have been Forgotten by the world at large. Those who have been afflicted by tiberium in a way I could never pretend to understand.. You have not been forgotten by me. I know you've had it hard. Harder then you should have. Discrimination and exile because you look different, because you were forced away out of superstitious fear... I also know that for a sad few, you have been lost to tiberium or hatred, but for the majority, for those of you that just want a home, want to be treated as the people, as our brothers and sisters, I ask that you join me as well. I can't promise that you'll be free of distrust by others, I can't promise that I will be able to wave my wand and magically fix everything that has happened to you and our land... I won't promise that, not until I know I can deliver. But what I can promise is that, I will try. I will try to help you, I will try to change the world and with your help, maybe we can," her voice died off for a moment as she stared into the camera, her dark eyes peering into them, letting the world judge her for what she has said, done and who she was.

"Please, if you feel as I feel, if you hope as I hope... then come join us at León. We're waiting for you."

Yuri
The Great Healer
New Men

The airport sat conquered in the images coming in from Alpha for his report to his master. Yuri was watching the data flowing form a few systems they'd probed which gave them details on the aircraft they had managed to secure. Already there were talks about running lines to the airport to refurbish it fully. Yuri needed access to a wider range of test subjects. He ponders that as he walks towards the doorway to depart down to the base grounds. Beta was waiting for him with an escort of Thralls as he salute with a clenched fist to the chest.

"Leader, I have gathered the returned forces. We are awash in resources at the moment from the harvest of the Blue Tiberium. I've taken the liberty of sending samples down into the labs," Beta reported as he reaches up to adjust a valve on a tube leading into his mask.

"Excellent work, we'll carry out an expedition to the town of Requena in the west. I want to know if it has value or if its just worth looting and leaving abandoned as a ghost town or outpost for us," Yuri said with a stroke of his beard. "We need to expand our territorial control. Its almost time to commence operations against Valencia. We're slowly cutting them off from contacts. Requena is the last contact point close by now that the airport is ours."

"Alpha seems to have it in order," Beta said in a tone that spoke of his rivalry with his fellow lieutenant.

"Alpha can enjoy the job of holding it," Yuri replied a bit grimly. "He's cost me a number of my Forgotten agents killed in that offensive. You will be taking over some of his work now, Beta. Do not disappoint me as he has. I would hate to have to turn to Delta. Or activate Gamma from his vat tank," Yuri said with a more ominous tone. Beta simply nodded and nervously fiddled with that valve a bit more as if in thought while they started to review the assembling forces bound for a visit to Requena.

Children of the Crystal

"So, have you heard the news?" Lobo asked to abruptly break the silence of the room, taking one long draw from his cigarette. He sat sunken deep in a shoddy folding chair in front of Omar's private desk, his head resting against the uncomfortable backrest, and his long legs splayed out wide on the metal floor as Omar turned his head to look at him. Even by the dim light of an ancient kerosene lamp set out on the table, in his very own private quarters where nobody else could see or hear them, Omar still decided to keep his aviators on. Their black lenses mirrored the quivering glow of the flame back at Lobo from across the table, and it was as if a fire burned in the deep of Omar's eyes. Lobo grinned as his master stared him down. He puffed out a long wisp of smoke.

"Of course," Omar answered unhurriedly, moving his chair closer to the disordered desk. As usual, stacks of papers, maps and radio equipment littered its surface. "That's why I asked you to come here in the first place, to talk a bit about it." He gave Lobo a pleased smile.

"I thought as much," Lobo chuckled, beginning to tap his leather boots against the floor.
"The transmission from León went across all of damn Spain! Seems like they had a similar idea to us." He put the cigarette back into his mouth and left it there to hang.

"That baroness..." Omar went on, "she said she'd offer the Forgotten help in return. I've spoken with Pancho about this already and have made up my mind: I will go to León to speak with her. I want you to come there with me."

At hearing that, Lobo ceased his tapping and remained still in contemplation for a moment, keeping his eyes firmly focused on the flickering fire in Omar's glasses. That would be quite the trip through Spain all the way over to León, even in the helicopter. Who knew what kind of dangerous territories it would bring them over? Lobo did not know for sure; they had not even gone as far north as Valencia until now, and the world was a widely different place than what it was twenty years ago. After some time, Lobo removed the cigarette from his lips and spoke, "That's a rather bold move. You sure this'll work out in the end? I mean," he laughed nervously, "What can we even do for a city on the other side of Spain in our current state of things? Or on the flip side, what can they do for us?"

Omar shrugged and pouted his lips. "I cannot say for sure whether or not things will work out, but we've already allied ourselves with one city. Why not do so with another when they stretch out their hand to us willingly? It will at least allow us to coordinate a reunification much easier, and once we open up a safe route to and from León, then we can really begin benefiting from such an alliance in the exchange of goods and faster communication. Moreover, it would persuade people to join us if we have more allies at our side." Omar reclined back into his chair, his hands clasped together and resting on his lap. The lack of a powerful radio transmitter of their own was regrettable, but no doubt a necessity if they wanted to reach out farther into Iberia. They'd have to make do with the helicopter for now and acquire one later. "I would like for us to go soon. I do not doubt that there are other interested parties out there willing to seek out the Baroness, and I'd like to be there first if I can help it."

"Alright!" Lobo answered directly, pushing himself up to sit straight in the chair, "I'll go with you, as you ask. We'll see how that will turn out."

"Then prepare your things, Lobo. I'll call for the helicopter to be readied. We leave in a few hours. I'll send for you when the time comes." Lobo stood up and gave Omar a curt bow before parting with him, turning around to leave the module-home with his black cape trailing after in pursuit. The door shut close behind him, and Omar was left alone in his office, contemplating their next steps for his return. At least Pancho would remain in the village to oversee the construction of the next Mammoth. That was one less thing on his mind. Though perhaps it was best not to count one's chickens before they have hatched.

solace of the chore
something began to worry Sinclair as of late his signals to command had begun to be jammed by an unknown force and the worrisome reality of a new battalion of automated tick tanks could be seen rolling around the based yards.. central consensus had been quiet of late the normally chatty central control unit... having locked itself away in the command centre, perhaps as a sort of petty humanlike revenge for his own previous test? it was a machine? it had no concept of such trivial things? yet revenge was a fuel that burned most bright a tool that the brotherhood used greatly yet it seemed so off for central consensus to be using such... for now time would tell perhaps it was "just a phase"

Boon had been drinking away most of his time in the Canteen, trying to drown away the memory of past events. From behind the line, in the back of the Kitchen came an increasingly reassuring voice. "Would you like some food now? Or do want to keep drinking away my special ingredients?" asked Sloan.

Boon waved the man's comments away with his half empty bottle. "You know that might taste better on a side of ribs! Or maybe on a nice tender chicken breast?"

Kratt hadn't meant to take Carrie's advice to heart, he had merely come to the cafeteria to get a stiff drink after his arduous trip, to find Fish serving behind the line. Though it shouldn't have been a surprise, they had been on the same mission ultimately, and with their other resident cook off site, who else could be running the kitchen. After an awkward start, mostly due to the Commander himself still being in a rotten mood and unwilling to converse, the two were gradually building a certain rapport like a comedy duo, with Boon as the straight man.

Or maybe they were more like a Ventriloquist act, with the cranky codger the wooden dummy. After all Chef Black was being very much productive and useful, while Kratt just sat on his ass and nursed a bottle. "Ah, this stuff is just burning a hole in my gut!" grumbled Boon, though it didn't stop him finishing the bottle.

"Why did you think I'm giving it up!" retorted Black, with a jovial laugh.

There was a flash from the back counter, as Fish laced the contents of the pan with alcohol, the quick burn producing a rather tantalising smell to waft around the room. "Though I'm happy someone else is drinking the stuff. I've got too much lying around now, and only so many mouths to feed."

It was another joke but there was a tinge of regret as he spoke about the bottles. Boon too was feeling regretful, now more so for just sitting on his arse while others around busied themselves and helped others, Fish included. Out there were people who needed help desperately like their neighbouring city San Fernado, and even his own men. He had put enough of them in danger already, and most of them were untrained layman and common folk. And rather than aid them he just wallowed in self pity, with a bottle in hand.

It was probably in that moment, that Kratt actually had the slightest inclination as to what Fish had most likely gone through with his depression. Unwilling to fall into a similar hole, Boon finally got off his backside and got back to work.

MACHINE BAPTISTS
As the convoy of vehicles rolled into the Machine Baptists base, emblazoned with the colours of the Warlord Garzola, Vladimir could do little to hide the smug delight he felt. In their first confrontation, despite superior opposition, it was he, the true prophet of Kane and not that foul Malaga pretender, who had come out on top but Vladimir held firm that this was merely a prelude of things to come.

And yet, despite his recent successes, Vladimir was cognizant of the fact that, even with the Hidden Temple bolstering his claim, he would need a significant force of his own if he truly hoped to challenge his adversary, and that would require a more consistent stream of materials and supplies than he currently possessed. His present guerrilla style tactics could win him battles but they would not win him the all important war. Not to mention, in spite of the precautions his men had taken, there was the possibility, albeit remote, that Garzola may hunt him down in retribution for his attack and strike before Vladimir could muster forces needed to make an assault of his own.

There was also the fact that the Machine Baptists were considered mad men or radicals by almost everyone, even other members of the Brotherhood. If he wanted to further strengthen his claim for leadership, a shift in the population's perception of his group would be a necessity. So with that in mind, he put plans into motion that would tackle both issues simultaneously.

Ordering his men to construct two immense domiciles that could each house a large quantity of people, Vladimir would take a page out of Garzola's book by offering the ill-gotten food and medicine he had pilfered from him, as well as the newly erected accommodation, to the surrounding populace at no cost. In exchange they would support the Machine Baptists efforts by providing him with either their labour or their worship. Vladimir hoped that the undertaking would shift public opinion somewhat, bringing more followers into the fold in the process and with them a more ready supply of resources to feed his war machine.

Word spread of the transmission from Leon. It gave something for the people to focus on during the thick summer heat. Anyone who was able to, gathered around their radios or communicators. It galvanized the nation. The people within it were affected.

Some positives and some, negatives.

In a dark room, mechanical wheezing could be heard as a thick metal hand slammed down on a table, cracking its frame. A voice that had a metallic echo spoke aloud to no one in particular.

“How dare that bitch do this. After throwing me to the slaughter. Well, she’ll pay. They’ll all pay.” Mechanical laughing followed by thick wheezing could be heard echoing down the hallway.

A woman in a smart looking black suit with Red accents and slicked back hair appeared on the screen. “This is Gabriella Santiagio of the Nod News Network. Warlord Garzola’s convoy was brutally attacked.”
Images showed strange metallic objects and dangerous looking multi legged cyborgs attacking the convoy and destroying the Tick Tank.

“We don’t have much details, but from what we can gather, a bunch of cyborg fanatics have begun a war against Warlord Garzola. The main battle seems to be one of the people, however.”

She turns to look at another camera. “These Machine Baptists as they have called themselves, seem to be setting up housing and distributing medicine to the less fortunate, setting themselves up as a direct contender to the rule of Garzola. Only time will tell when this cold war, will heat up.”- Nod News Network

A man wearing a fancy suit is standing in the city of Leon. People in the background are celebrating. “We are gathered at the city of Leon, where the Magistrate, Mariana Vásquez has given an amazing speech. It appealed to people of all ages. It… I must say that in all my years of reporting… it has been quite some time since I heard something quite so touching.”

A disheveled reporter stands near a field of Tiberium. “This news from Leon, could change everything on the Iberian Peninsula. It could be the start of a unified government not seen since the early days of the Tiberium menace. It could lead back to people having food in their bellies and keeping warm during the winter. It could lead back to having someone to rely upon to help. Or, it could lead to even greater danger as those previously left alone, are now exposed to the light………”

Sumpter Skirmishers

Boon sat in the canteen with the latest batch of Infantry initiates, literally fresh out of the box. While he had worried the process was going to be rough on those who participated, with the Commander himself swearing half of his men wouldn't be able to tell a back bore from their own backbone. But instead, it seemed the trainees had stuck with what they knew best, Crates, combining and implementing them into their new tactics.

Whether it had been their own idea, or the instructor's idea, Kratt couldn't say but he could easily say he was feeling a great deal of pride for the schooled soldiers, just like a proud father. Or maybe a grandfather, or a Crate grandfather in some cases.

Pulling his attention away from the rabble rousing recruits, Boon turned to the television screen on the far wall, just above the kitchen, to see a rather stunning woman seemingly giving an address. Introducing herself as Baroness Mariana Vasquez, Kratt's memory jogged at the name, recalling her as the same Baroness that the mercenary Luciana had said she was working for.

That wily woman had been the only survivor of her ill fated group when her, him and some scrapyard soldiers had went to rescue Professor Ignatia. Stubbornly she had refused to come with the Crate Commander, even when her sole mission had been to rescue the prized professor who had wisely accepted his offer of sanctuary.

And while Ignatia was now off with Barry, to see the poor people of San Fernado in the aims of treating their ailments, Luciana was God knows where, while he witnessed his newest recruits eagerly celebrate their graduation from the Training Facility. The same one that he had hoped the Bandito broad would have taught in but it was not too be....

Still as Kratt regarded the News Report which quickly rolled on after the Speech, he swore he could see Luciana's face within the crowd as the reporter spoke, though he couldn't be one hundred percent sure, as she was was just one among hundreds who seemed to flock to the Barony.

Squinting at the screen, he tried to confirm his suspicions but the woman in question seemed to be surrounded by about four others, making it near impossible. Leaning back, he scratched his head irritably at the lack of an answer.

In spite of that, in his own mind, Boon was adamant it was her. Lucky Merc he thought with the slightest of smiles.

Mariana stared down at the table before her, numerous maps covered the surface, around the table stood some prominent members of society as well as some of the more influential members of the military such as Hugo, Sofia and Luciana. From what she understood, Scorched Earth had 'improvements' to make and Gale had gone with them which suited Mariana just fine. Scorched Earth unsettled her, as they did everyone, and it seemed wherever Scorched Earth was, Gale was always close by, a more odd duo, Mariana could not imagine. She had yet to meet 'Commander Catalina' the ex-nod turned bandit turned soldier of León. It seemed Hugo had asked her, along with some of her men, to secure the port at Gijon and while Mariana was... hesitant to trust someone with such a task when she did not know them, Hugo had vouched for her, and Mariana would trust his judgement.

Before them were all the maps of the area as well as what they could scrounge for Valladolid where rumors of a cybernetic bandit warlord was gathering power to strike at them. Mariana closed her eyes and let out a slow breath as the buzz of conversation went on around her, she had waged that her message would attract such attention, but she had not imagined that a threat would arise so quickly. Everyone who disagreed with her vision, all the bandits and brigands who felt threatened, and no doubt some nod elements, would flock to whatever banner they thought could oppose her ambitions... The longer they waited, the larger the force would grow and the last thing they wanted to do was allow this force the initiative to launch strikes at their land, it simply was not ready or prepared to defend all the settlements under their domain and if they tried to split their forces up to do so, they'd be vulnerable should the unknown foe concentrate their forces and hit them, they could cut all their forces off and leave them as easy prey. The only option was to take whatever forces they could muster and launch a strike at Valladolid, to crush the force that was gathering, hopefully, before they had a chance to dig in and organize.

"My lady," a voice cut through her thoughts and Mariana blinked a few times before she looked to Hugo, he leaned slightly towards her, his brow ceased with age and worry, "Did you hear the plan?" He asked, although she suspected he wanted to question more on her well being as it was rare for her to be so absentminded.

"Yes," Mariana said, "I heard," her eyes traced the maps before them. The plan was... rough. They'd garrison the settlements they could with their levies and other militia. The units that would not be suited for the strike force or the pressure of frontline combat. To reinforce their position, the undefended town of Mieres would be bolstered with a wall and heavy artillery, but.... "Can they hold if there is a sneak attack?" Mariana asked as she looked at the maps, but in her heart, she knew the answer.

"León? Probably, tough nut ta crack," a softer voice said, Luciana, as she crossed her arms as a frown spread across her face, "But Ciñera? Oviedo? Mieres? If it's a supported, determined attack? Fuck no," she said.

"Under ideal circumstances, they hold until relief forces can be sent," Hugo supplied, but not before shooting the mercenary a look over her language to which the woman just returned a half-hearted shrug, "Or hold on long enough to evacute the civilians."

"Worst case?" Mariana asked as she slowly sat down.

"Everyone dies and shit gets burnt," Luciana said, as she reached across the table to grab another treat, food that had been brought in earlier although it was a bit cold and stale now, neither of which seemed to bother the mercenary.

Mariana rubbed her temples as she contemplated it all over.. Attacking was right, she could feel it, but she was also not exactly the best or most familiar with strategy and warfare, her battlefield was in public relations and politics. If this assault failed, if this was a trap and she was sending her entire army into it, everything she had built could come to an end overnight. Dreams of a unified Spain could very well die with her.

"Gather the troops tomorrow, I want to speak to them before you march," Mariana said as a weight settled in her stomach. She was missing something, something on these maps, something in her past, something in the numbers.... something wasn't adding up, and she couldn't shake the feeling that whatever she was missing was going to cost them all.
