Ridge does, but it's mostly internally. He sees this particular scene as King's show and Ridge isn't going to step in. Ridge's heart (yes, he has one) is also going out to Hatch because everyone has had bad days, but to roll a 1 on a percentile when the lowest is worst? *chuckles* Yeah. =)

That's all telling and not showing, but yes, he does but it's not important to the scene.

Just wanted to make sure that I am not overriding the player characters in this game with my NPCs and give everyone a chance to post.

I got to admit, I laughed out loud when I saw that '1' on the roll from Sherwood. Poor Hatch!

So... I just realized that I hadn't gotten any alerts since Easter and thus I've missed out on a few posts. Catching up. =)

Infiltrator cyborg armor!

Someone in here recently mentioned there was a class of cyborgs called "infiltrator"? Where is that and how might Ridge get his hands on it? It's great to be a combat cyborg, but in Special Forces, stealth (and initiative) is often the difference between life and death. I want to see this Infiltrator for myself and, if nothing else, drool over the possibilities. =)

Update: I'm looking around and I see entries for many different kinds of non-CS Infiltrator-style cyborgs (some with no Prowl penalty at all!), but none yet for CS stealth cyborgs. The search continues!

Edit: To be clear, I'm looking into this as a long-term goal for Ridge. Not immediate. Every PC (or at least those I play) should have goals! =)

Yay! My login finally works again. Had some issues logging in since the restore. I'll read and catch up and see about posting tonight.

Vaneheart Vaneheart Welcome back, Vane!

Edit: I've seen the others in this RP post, so your being back makes everybody. =)

I want to share this feeling before it gets lost to time and replaced with something else entirely as is the fate of so many emotions and thoughts every day.

Thanks a bunch, everybody, for the Love, Well-Written, & Great Scene, etc. on Ridge's introduction post with Steel Rain. I put a lot into it and I got a hell of a lot back! As much as I appreciate your "applause," the following will stay in my heart for a long time.

Upon observing and meeting Lt. Ridge, Stone was surprised, and thought A 'borg... ...with a commission? Now I've seen everything. Never served under a 'borg officer before. Was he a officer before becoming a 'borg? He was pleasantly surprised at the skilled berating. Guy must have been enlisted prior to his commission. None of the overly polite bullshit that some officers are like. Looks like the Army isn't as soft as I thought. Stone was starting to think he might like it here after all. At the question of "Do I make myself clear?" Stone responded with a strong "Yes, sir!"
(bold mine)

Let me start with what I encased in bold type. "He was pleasantly surprised at the skilled berating." To get this from a Marine and a fellow roleplayer makes it worth my having created all that is Ridge. "Pleasantly surprised?" "Skilled berating" from a character from someone who lived it? Fuck Yeah! Sometimes words don't do a feeling justice, you know? Just... Fuck Yeah!

"Was he an officer before becoming a 'borg?"
This is something my Character would have wondered had he been in Stone's position, too. I don't know as much about the Coalition as I'd like, but I've the feeling that many a 'borg doesn't make it to officer simply because of what they are. Now, in Free Quebec, it's a different story - they appear to be treated almost like everyone else and can go from Private to General. Still, it's a cool thing to see another PC wondering about. That's perceptive.

"Guy must have been enlisted prior to his commission. None of the overly polite bullshit that some officers are like." This. I've lived around the military enough and read enough to know there is a huge difference between the "90-day Wonder" lieutenants of World War II infamy and the rare NCO that becomes an officer. Rarer still is the NCO that becomes a good officer I in no way wanted Ridge to come off like the former. I think it is the rarest of green lieutenants that gains/gained respect from people under them that are already "in the shit" when the LT joins them. That's not entirely why Ridge did what he did with Steel Rain, but it's how I wrote him and that some of you picked up on this makes my day!

"Looks like the Army isn't as soft as I thought." Then there's this gem. Singlehandedly, Ridge appears to have given enough reason to Stone, a C.S. Marine, to change his own beliefs about the C.S. Army he's now knee-deep in. I believe faith in who you're serving with means a lot and it is something earned and special to many soldiers. All of our Characters want, and maybe need, faith in the others. Stone's also perceptive enough to realize Ridge hasn't yet led an Air Wing before, hence his orders for Graves.

Almost everyone playing at an RP table wants to be seen as "having their shit together." Now, whether they've actually done what it takes to be that way is different for every individual. In reality, in whatever you do, either you have it or you don't. I don't know any other way to get there except for putting in the sweat and effort. The same goes for the Characters in this squad. Ridge's goal is for everybody in Steel Rain to actually have their shit together while his Player just wants to have a fun time expressing playing and expressing themselves while enjoying whatever direction Psychie takes us (fun and fairness remains the name of my game!). But to have strong evidence like this that folks enjoyed something I put together that much... is really satisfying and appreciated! I meant to write this earlier, but the site went down unexpectedly.

Oh. And it's worth writing again: Fuck Yeah! =)

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

(Disclaimer: No one responded to this so I'm giving it another try. Short part - Do the CS have stealth cyborgs? If so, what books, please?)

Hmmmm. I don't know how easy/hard it would be for a Full Conversion Borg swap out bodies like that. I'll have to ponder that option a bit.

The Bionics Sourcebook talks a bit about modular limbs a bit and has some that 'borgs can use. Somehow, the idea of "swapping out bodies" didn't pop into my head (maybe it should have?). The idea of it is... pretty freakin' cool, though! Modular bodies! It's downright Cyberpunk. =)

Just having the technology for modular limbs is pretty cool. I've only seen a couple of Stealth cyborgs (Rifts Japan's Ninja and Russia's White Tiger, both of which aren't available per a decision you made earlier, Psychie). The former of those works on a stealth "cloaking" system which limits the cyborg to the woeful Speed of 10. Any faster and you eat a -40% Prowl penalty! The White Tiger seems to simply be naturally stealthy, though it's a frontline powerhouse to boot. Oh, I also saw a couple in Rifts: Free Quebec. Seems that Stealth Cyborgs have a thing for having four arms.

But nowhere have I seen anything about the Coalition States, arguably the biggest wielder of advanced technology on the planet, having stealth Cyborgs of their own. I find that curious.

Edit: Short version. Found the technology, but the Coalition likely won't use it.

Psychie Psychie Found something in Rifts World Book 22: Free Quebec (page 118 and thereabouts) that might be of interest to you. Under the various cyborgs that book offers is a special note regarding the destruction of the MD.C. body which reads:

"Depleting the M.D.C. of the main body will effectively destroy the artificial body, but emergency systems will keep the brain and vital organs alive for 36 hours. Recovery of the severely damaged body will enable doctors to place the character on a life support system that will keep him alive until a new bionic body (same style or other) is available for full conversion. Failure to find the damaged 'Borg within 36 hours means the character dies. Similarly, massive amounts of damage (125 points below zero) completely destroy the "Borg with no hope of recovery."

Now, there's no mention of any of that in the earlier Rifts books (including and possibly especially Coalition War Machine which has precious little data on cyborgs). It proves that the technology is there, though the Coalition States evidently don't use it (the cyborgs are all of Free Quebec design). In Ridge's background, his father is a specialist in bionics and cybernetics and the one who primarily puts Ridge into his cyborg body, saving his life, and continuing his career in the C.S. military. If you want to work this in somehow, perhaps Ridge's dad or someone close to him used to work in Free Quebec prior to them declaring themselves a free nation?

And if you don't, disregard! Stuff like this is just fun to come up with and I like giving long-term goals to my Characters.

Edit: Ah! Just read that this technology was part of Free Quebec's secretive Liberty Reserve which they did their utmost to see that the Coalition didn't find out about it. Well, at least this is out there in case we happen to run into anyone from Free Quebec. =)

Psychie Psychie I'm confused again; I feel like I'm missing a post somewhere.

Summer requested ideas for rewards. Ridge made recommendation. Then Stone and Hatch acting as if Summer has already approved and issued Ridge's recommendations?

Is everyone else seeing a post that I'm not? RP Nation did go down twice.

It may have just been the two of us being overly enthusiastic and posted too soon.

It could be a missing post, or just like Sherwood said, Vane and him may have been a bit quick on the trigger to put those posts up.

Everyone, over the next day or two, take your time and make sure your posts are appropriate for the scene we have going on.

Understood, boss lady. I'm going to make sure that I am more careful with my speedy posts and not post OOC knowledge.

Psychie Psychie O.K.. So what is the current setting? Did Summer and King like the ideas Ridge recommended and therefore we can just move on? Or did something else take place?

I don't understand what the confusion is. It was stated previously that the last person to don armor would be denied liberty and would presumably be assigned remedial duties. This is a pretty regular and reasonable understanding of non judicial "punishment," whether it be latrine scrubbing, extra PT, or reciting regulations. Or anything else.

Yeah all the April 3rd posts involving Master Sergeant King addressing the squad and Hatch cover this directly. I can quote it specifically when I get home if needed, as I am out of state at the moment on my cell phone.

All this is true. My confusion stems from this. How do Hatch and Stone know about Ridge recommending to Summer that they get liberty prior to the mission? How do they know it's approved when Summer hasn't replied? And yet, Hatch and Stone seem to act as if Summer has given the O.K. and someone has told the troops.

Stay safe wherever you're at. The weather is nasty in some places!

What are we going to be doing otherwise prior to the mission? Even at a FOB, you're not always training 25/8. A person has to sleep at least some of the time. There are only X amount of hours until go time. Why would a remedial punishment be assigned before a mission, but then applied after a mission, one dangerous enough that a individual has a high chance of dying and would need their head in the game without a looming sword of Damocles? It's a pretty safe assumption. Reasonable intuition.

Regardless, Hatch and Stone (and Graves) both are aware that Hatch will lose off-time at some point, and Stone is offering to back her up like a good squadmate should, whenever that time may be.
