Clockwork Heart

[3] Ask her how she managed to wait all that time next to our bed - would have been quite a coincident if she dropped in right the moment when we woke up. Maybe she'll tell us about shift changes with the boy and we get to know his name that way. Maybe she'll tell us something else - we'll see. But I think it'd be good to make her talk about the happenings without showing that we don't have any kind of clue what happened.

[1]  -  Keep acting as if I know them and that everything is alright. But still ask what happened. *cofs*

Seconded!

You softly chuckle for a short moment. “I guess I did.” You, then, take a good look at these people with you. The girl, obviously, was the same seatmate you had earlier. The male, however, was strangely familiar.

He wore plain grey hoodie and black trousers. His dark blue eyes seemed to carry some heavy weight, as if he had been burdened by something traumatizing. He had a scar on his left cheek, where some of his half-assedly swept blond hair drooped upon, covering a small portion of it. He also had a necklace with a silver ring hanging on it.

“Do you know what happened to me?” You scratched the back of your head. Then, you looked towards the two of them. “I can’t seem to remember anything other than the professor scolding me.”

That was a lie. You could still remember everything. The ticking noises you heard in your head, the bullet piercing your chest, and your horrible death.

Well, it was not really a lie. You did not know what happened outside of your head. Or whatever place you got into whilst trying to remember anything about the girl. Maybe you should have just asked her. She seemed to be quite open, after all.

The girl leaned in closer to you. “Do you not remember anything?” Her eyes were full of consent. Whatever the hell happened earlier must have been something bad. “Nothing at all?”

“I remember saying some pretty cool historic stuff. But other than that, I know nothing.” You sigh.

The boy suddenly got a serious look. “This might be terrible. You might really have some kind of unidentified ailment.”

Your eyes got a bit wider, and you felt your heartbeat rise slightly. Unidentified ailment? What in the world? Is this something about the ticking noises?, you panicked in your mind, but stayed calm physically. You don’t want them to find out about some seriously weird shit you experienced. Not yet, at least.

“D-don’t scare him.”, the girl stuttered. She was scared too, somewhat. Why? You could only assume she has some kind of relationship with you. Or she’s simply concerned towards an assumed dying classmate. Yeah, that’s probably more like it.

“That’s what the nurse said, though.”, the boy insisted. “I’m pretty she knows her stuff. She is accredited by three medical institutes, after all.”

“What’s this ailment you’re talking about?”, you say. Curiosity got the better of you.

“Well…”, the boy replied, his eyes dodging yours. It seems that he does not want to share such info with you. “It’s...quite complicated.” This guy...you might start hating him for that. He spits some intriguing info then blocks you off all of a sudden. That irritates you.

You subtly give out huff and puffs of slight frustration.

Fortunately, the girl butted in. “The nurse said you have something in your heart, and it is causing your body difficulties.” She paused for a second, then after a heavy breath, she continued. “She even said that you might die within a short amount of time if the thing is not taken out. But doing that will be very risky and without guarantee, so your chances of survival within the operation is an estimated 3 out of 10.”

What.

You are already dying? But the semester had just started! You were going to have lots of memorable times in college!

This info struck you hard. You remained silent for quite a long time, that the girl began to worry about you once more. The boy got a bit nervous and started to tap his right foot rapidly on the ground.

[1] Ask them to leave you alone so you can think about this.

[2] Accept your assumed fate and bid farewell to these two people.

[3] Deny your assumed fate and see if you can talk to the nurse.

[4] I don't know if this is different enough from 3 to be a separate option, but I want to only be skeptical of what they say -- not outright deny or accept it. I want to hear details from the nurse if possible.

I'll change my vote to this.

[3] We got shot, and yet we're still alive. Clearly, this thing in our heart won't kill us, right? Be positive, cheer up the other two - and then sneak away to see the nurse without them worrying more than necessary. We can ask the professor where to find the nurse - she was there, after all, and this way we don't have to bother our friends with minor concerns about our health.

You took a deep breath, and think about the matters you’ve just tackled calmly.

“I don’t believe you.”, you say. “Besides, how can I just develop an ailment that bad all of a sudden? It’s somewhat absurd.”

“It is, but-”, the boy replied.

“I want to talk with the nurse. This info is sketchy.”, you continue, as you tried to stand up. However, the two immediately stopped you from doing so by gently putting you down with their arms.

“You’re still not well. Let us call her for you.”, the girl interfered.

“Alright then.”, you reply.

The two left shortly after saying their ‘see you later’s. Only you remained in the room. Silence filled the air, as you lied down peacefully on one of the infirmary’s beds.

Then, all of a sudden, you her a noise not far from your location. And you are pretty sure there was no one else but you here.

[1] Loudly question if there is another person in the infirmary.

[2] Stand up and see where the noise came from.

[3] Ignore it.

[2] There is no rest when the mysteries of the world are calling for you.

Victor Frost

Intrigued by the noise, you rise from the bed sloppily. Your body felt a bit heavier than usual, as if you’re sick. Which somewhat proves that what they have said earlier is most likely to be true. Or, you know, it could just be that feeling whenever a newly-risen person moves away from his bed. Whatever the hell it is, you decide to continue your plan - to find the source of the noise you’ve heard just a few seconds ago.

You walk slowly, still trying to get a grasp on how to move properly since for some reason you act like a person who just woke up from a coma. You head towards the western section of the infirmary.

Upon arriving there, a room curtain blocked your path. You push it away to the side, revealing an empty section in the infirmary. There was nothing there but the cabinets that held various medical instruments, and a pillar at the center which was used for height measurement during physical examinations.

Taking a step forward, you scanned the room for anything suspicious. Unfortunately you found nothing. How strange. You were sure the noise originated from this area. After a short while of looking at nothing but white cabinets and standing still like a post, you decide to forget about the noise and just return to your bed to rest as long as you can.

However, as soon as you turn around, you were suddenly tackled by a powerful force, quickly sending you further into the empty room with your back against the pillar. The impact made you close your eyes and groan in pain.

Before you could open your eyes, you felt a forearm softly pressed against your neck, causing you to freeze in fear of being harmed again.

“Uhh.”, you said. “Let’s not get violent here.”

You gulped. The person was not responding. You kept your eyes closed like a coward for some unknown reason. Maybe because your back is still a bit sore from that collision with the pillar.

“I won’t tell anyone you’re here, alright?”, you continue. “Just let me go.”

After a few seconds...

[1] You hear the voice of an arrogant male.

[2] You hear the voice of a tough female.

You hear the voice of a tough female.

“What did you see?”, she asks.

“What do you mean?”, you say.

She lifts you forward a bit, then pushes you once more towards the pillar. You groan in pain again. She asks again, this time with a stronger, more imposing tone.

“What did you see?!”, she continues.

You don’t say anything, but you seem to have gotten her message. She’s asking for what you saw in that strange moment when you hear those ticking noises, whilst trying to remember something.

How strange. Only you know about that event, let alone that you see things of the past in it.

“Answer me, Victor Frost!”, she yelled at your face. “What. Did. You. See?!!”

You feel her animosity towards you growing further, that you ignore the fact that she knew you name. Your body was aching already, and this girl probably won’t stop until she gets what she wants, or you are dead. Again. You don’t want the same thing to happen to you twice, err, thrice.

“I saw…”, you say reluctantly. “...my death.”

She lets go of you. Finally opening you eyes, and getting an unhindered breathe of air, you see your assailant before you.

She wore a gray hoodie, atop her red shit. She also wore a partly-rugged jeans and combat boots. Hanging from her left shoulder was a brown sling bag, similar to that of a mailman’s in those tv shows. She wore a strange necklace that had a tiny memory disk hanging on it.

Her hair was dyed velvet, styled in a bobcut, with most of her hair swaying to the left. Her deep brown eyes carried a sense of seriousness as she stared at the floor, murmuring something about a ‘Dr.Kleisir’.

Surprisingly, this girl had some appeal. Maybe it was the way she carried herself, maybe it was her voice, maybe she simply was that way. However, her appeal also carried a very threatening presence. It was unlike those regular bullies like the jocks, it was far more fearsome than that. It was as if she was an assassin or something of the sort.

You knew you had to leave, while she was distracted, but your curiosity is hindering you from doing so. Your desire to know more about the ticking noises overwhelmed your desire to run away.

“This is bad.”, she says, now facing you. “You have to prepare yourself.”

“Wha-why?”, you say.

She taps you in the shoulder, and speaks in a grim tone. “Your life is about to get turned upside down.”

Now, you are even more confused. First the ticking noise. Then, you ‘death’ and the so-called illness. Now this? What in the world is going on? Maybe this is just a dream.

Yes, you hope that this is just a dream, and that you will wake up in the middle of your class. Heck, you did not even care if you will be punished for sleeping in class.

A sound echoes through the room once more. The noise of keys jingling. Maybe it is the nurse, as the two have called earlier. You should get back to the bed. But you really want to know more. You want to understand all this, real or not.

[1] Ask the girl a question. (Insert dialogue)

[2] Return to your former location.
