[div class=bigHeader]CHRONOLOGY: ASHES FROM BEYOND[/div]

[div class=header]CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION[/div](Note: This is canon(?) to the Chronology Series)

Summary:
Shilo Saga and Lazarus Huang encounter Isaac Clarke (DeadSpace) when he comes through a rift in the space time continuum. They attempt to help him, but end up fighting over custody of him. Lazarus calls in reinforcements and the situation creates a stand off that requires the discussion to be taken back to Lazarus' HQ. On the way back to the HQ, Lazarus' subordinate, Mask, hits it off with Shilo's teammate, Carmen, and the two participate in some antics together while Lazarus and Shilo work things out. Carmen and Mask's fun is cut short by one of Carmen's teammates, who wanted her sweater back. Carmen brings Mask and Mask's teammate, Void, along to protect her from Artemis' wrath. The situation was deescalated faster than it started, but on the way back, Void predicts the return of aliens that Lazarus' team had defeated years ago. Now, Lazarus and Shilo's teams, as well as Alpha, join forces to prepare for an impending invasion.

Current Event:
From the holographic display on the improvised table constructed from four crates, Lazarus pulled up another graphic. This graphic displayed the names of his team members organized into four categories. The first grouping of names included Hound and Oscar and was labeled "Jupiter". The second team consisted of Mask, Laura, and Salvo, and was marked "Ares". The third consisted of Lazarus, a person named Tami, named "Helios", and a person named Gabrielle. The fourth and final team, named "Nyx", consisted of Void, a Malcolm, and an Abaddon. "These current teams are organized based on the most ideal match up based on synergy. We will create 'subteams' of 5 or 6 to make the most of our 'heavy hitters'."

Lazarus continued with the explanation, "Team 'Jupiter' will be focused on support. Ideally, it would be able flexible with the types of support it can provide aerial, artillery, cyber, and medical support, but we will try not to rely on them exclusively for those roles. Team 'Ares' will be focused on direct combat, hitting the enemy as hard as they can from the front. In the meanwhile, 'Helios' will focus on disrupting enemy movements and 'Nyx' will attempt to attack the enemy's morale. Of course, roles and team mates will be interchangeable if needed, but having our teams mix like this will help build camaraderie. Alpha, Shilo, what do you think?"

( Nightwisher Nightwisher Sleek Sleek Here we go, this took way too long to make.)

    Name: Alexandria D'Angelo

Alias: Alpha, close friends may call her Alex.

Skills: Medical (Surgery, medicine, etc.), Sharpshooting (Long-range, firearm proficiency in general), Mechanical (Vehicles, non-computer machines and electronics), Cyber (Limited. Can troubleshoot and perform basic tasks and perform mid-level fixes and programming, but isn't a mastermind.)

    Abilities:
Magic: A series of supernatural abilities she was granted after her transformation. Use tires her quickly.
Healing: Self-explanatory. The greater the wound, the harder to heal
Fire: From anywhere to simple cooking to even being hot enough to use as a blow torch. The hotter and bigger the flame, the more it takes a toll on her.
Weapons summoning: (Chaos Saber/Dagger) Essentially Asriel's swords, but worse. Unlike Asriel's summoned magic blades, Alpha's are more fragile and take a lot out of her to summon. Prefers to summon daggers, which are perfectly weighted for throwing.

    Negative Abilities:
Monster-Human Hybrid: As a result of her hybrid nature, Alpha suffers from two problems. Her magic is sub-par, and her body is more fragile than a human's, and sometimes even weaker than certain monsters.
Reliance on medicine: In order to live, Alpha needs constant doses of recycled determination, synthesized from her own blood. She gets this from her armor, though a hand-held device is in her possession that allows her to have a semi-normal state outside of armor.
Only one eye: Left eye is missing. Depth perception is altered.
Mutated eyes: Special contact lenses must be worn to see in full color. Mutation in pigmentation results in irises bursting for a short period of time during transformation, leading to pigment in the sclera and pupil, tinting everything slightly cyan. Affects eye color. Left eye removed for further study.

    Gear:
ALPHA-Series BDU (Marksman Variant): Lightweight stealth armor that favors low detection over survivability. Obviously not made with the well-being of the user in mind, outside of the bare necessities. Standard with advanced optics that allow for native 5x magnification without scopes, thermal, and night vision. Standard with HUD.

"Excalibur" Railgun: Alpha's own design. Portable railgun firing ferrous ammunition of 12.7mm caliber. Due to magnetic compensation, recoil is diminished greatly. Every round must be individually loaded, and the weapon charged with each shot. The weapon is bulky and unwieldy, but has great power and range. Magnification alone is up to 15x, but with Alpha's optics that is increased to 20x.

Dart-pistol: Modified Zookeeper dart gun. Break-action, must be reloaded after every shot. Fires steel tipped darts, anaesthetic injections, paralytic injections, aerosol pepper spray mini canisters, miniature thermite darts. Every round, with the exception of the thermite, is ineffective against armor.

ALPHA-series DT recycler: Small hand-held dialysis machine that filters blood into a small hyperdermic needle for injection. Must be used every few hours.

Text Color: RPN Standard, subject to change if more characters are used.

The Team 73 Leader looked over the plan, listening intently to what Lazarus was explaining. She gave a nod. "It makes perfect sense. it will keep everyone in their comfortable zones. I have nothing to say." She turned her attention to Alpha as the female spoke. "I think putting you where you're most comfortable will be the best option. Not that I don't think you could adapt, but I'd prefer everyone be perfectly comfortable and stable in their positions. If you feel like you can move around though, we may use that to our advantage during the fight." Shilo gave a nod. Turning her attention back to the Guardian leader. "You said these things can take quite a beating, but how are their attacks? Their weaponry? Does it hit just as hard as they can take?"

"If your specialty is in support functions, Hound and rEc0de will be glad to work with you. You won't have to worry too much about facing direct combat. Jupiter will have access to a generous quantity of recon and attack drones, courtesy of the Department of Defense and Jet Hound."

Jet Hound and Oscar smiled at the prospect of being able to work with some people who were actually intelligent in the realm of mechanical and digital technology. Few people in their team understood the kind of work that goes into it. Maybe Salvo, but he specializes more in mechanical engineering than in computers.

Lazarus grimly nodded at Shilo's question. It was a good and common question that any reasonable person would make. After all, rushing into battle without full knowledge of your enemy's capabilities is almost suicidal. "From what we gathered the last time they struck, a majority of them wield melee weapons like swords and spears, but they aren't to be underestimated. Their blades can cut through most metals effortlessly and every one of them has some form of...'magic', for the lack of a better term. They have basic control over the classical elements and can throw a fire ball, shoot some icicles, or make some small tornadoes. Nothing that comes close to what our rookies can do, but incredibly dangerous to regular humans."

Images were displayed onto the table demonstrating the Ashborne's abilities. There was an image of a robed figure wielding lighting, an Ashen warrior with a flaming sword, and a warrior monk walking on air."The grunts can take a lot of punishment, but nothing that conventional firearms can't take care of with enough bullets. The lieutenants however...are much stronger, on the level of people like Hendricks and even tougher. They can wipe out city blocks by themselves without breaking a sweat and can take just as much punishment, so they will be the highest priority targets. Naturally, they are aware of this, so lieutenants generally group up and surround themselves with grunts, just like what we're doing."

Shilo nodded, chewing on the inside of her lip as she watched the hologram images. "Arte, Eric, Xander, will you be able to create armor that could help defend against this sort of thing." The raven haired woman asked the pretty blonde. She tossed her hair over her shoulder.
"It would take a few days, since I'd have to custom design each suit to work best with your skill sets." Shilo's being movement, Vincent's being taking hits for example. "But it should be easy enough." The two men nodded.
"Whatever we come up with, it'll be better than an old leather jacket." Eric stated simply. The twenty-one year old woman rolled her eyes.
"I assume you all are going to have suits that help your powers work to the best of their abilities." It was a simple statement of fact, so that the Team wouldn't have to use their time and resources creating armor for them either. "Alpha, you're good with your suit or do you need an upgrade?" Shilo asked, quirking an eyebrow.

Alpha
Alpha nodded in response to an upgrade. Her armor was meant for stealth, and something told her that went out the window.

"What I have isn't gonna cut it. It's for infiltration and assassination, nothing else. But.....when you design an upgrade, talk to me. There's components it needs to have."

She said, looking at the lieutenants, then with a smile in her voice, said.

"I can take them down. My rifle can slice through four tanks, sitting end to end to end."

Alpha said with confidence.

"And if you give me some time, I could probably dream up something else that can take them down too."

"Against the Ashborne, the best defense is mobility. We don't know the exact properties of their weapons, but we do know that they cut like nothing else I've ever seen before...So, this...might be of use." said . He brought out the exoskeleton he kept in his duffel bag and held it out for Team 73. "This...is an exoskeleton, exo for short. Spec ops forces are standard issued them, but we have upgraded variants that complement our powers. Mine, for example come loaded with shock absorbers meant for monster trucks."

"If you guys want, we'll get some exos for you by the end of the day. They are basically blank slates for you to play with. You can strap on whatever armor you want without slowing you down, so you can go crazy with the armor, with the added bonus of being able to punch through walls. The only downside is that you need the right wetware installed or it's response times will lag behind, but we can figure out a work around."

"That's good, Alpha. If your rifle can take on takes like you said, it should be able to do some serious damage to the enemy. It should make up for the lack of 'heavy hitters' in Jupiter. We'll have our brains work something that each of us can use. The leader of the Guardians swapped back to the display with the names and added Alpha to Jupiter with Hound and Oscar.

"Alpha, if you don't mind, I'd like to check out that rifle of yours later. To have something that can go through tanks like that in a portable package is something I need to see," asked Hound with intrigue.

The raven haired woman offed a small smile in response to Alpha's confidence. "Alright we'll have one made for you as well." Her attention move to Hound as he spoke. Shilo looked at the exo and gave a nod. "Good, we'll use some of those, make sure that everyone stays out of their way." She shot a glance at Vincent who merely responded with a grin. Shilo turned her attention back to the rest. "Nara is going to be watching the fight and recording the movements of the Ashebourne. If they turn to dust, we might not be able to learn about their biology, but we can learn fighting strategy more than grunts and lieutenants. By the end of this fight I want to know exactly how they move, exactly how they respond. Obviously I'm hoping that this doesn't happen again, but on the off chance it does, I want everyone who could possibly fight these things to be able to study them. She'll also be watching for any stealth attacks. Nara stays out of the fight but she's going to be our clairvoyant. She watches everything, she can tell us about everything." Shilo explained. Nara gave a shy smile and an awkward little wave. "Other than that, I have no requests for my Team. They can choose to join where ever they want as long as they behave. If they cause any issues, let me know." The woman's teal eyes trailed over the gazes over the Guardians. "We can all act a little... superior sometimes." With that she met Lazarus's gaze, he knew better than anyone else, besides the Team themselves, how Shilo could act.

Hound nodded in affirmation as he took out his phone and began to contact his supplier. Nothing under the table or illegal, just a very exclusive manufacturer. But the manufacturer owed Hound a few favors, so expedite shipping of some spec-ops grade exos would be no sweat. As soon as the order for the equipment was put in, he began to pay attention to Shilo's description of Nara, and Hound was impressed. He could use someone who's a dedicated digital technology specialist between him and Oscar's own skill sets. The techies are going to have some fun together for once.

"If Nara is going to be support to that extent, she be a part of Jupiter in spirit, if not in person. Oscar can man a few drones that can help with the process of analysing the Ashborne" Hound looked over to Laz and asked him with his eyes to switch back over to the information on the Ashborne. "As you can tell, the information we have on the enemy is sparse and vague. We didn't have manpower or opportunity to get much footage or data back then."

"Just one of the downsides of a six man team being caught completely off guard by a small invasion. Thank God we barely fought them off." Lazarus smiled at the idea of the members of Team 73 screwing around. Most of them were young, but they weren't rookies like some of his team were. He trusted that these elite agents were professional enough to play nice. But if they weren't...they had to deal with Laz, Mask, Void, Salvo, and Hound. Either way, Lazarus responded with amusement "Don't you worry about your Team, we'll keep them in line if they ever get too rowdy. If they act a little bit too stuck up, we'll show them that they aren't the only ones who are best at what they do."

Alpha nodded to Hound. Most spec-ops scoffed at the idea of a portable railgun, and the reaction, the "can I see it?", was all to common for her. She didn't mind, though. She took pride in her work, and wasn't ashamed to say she got more than a few kicks out of people in awe of the raw power of her gear.

"Yeah, go ahead. It's in the passenger seat of my SUV."

She said, pointing hound to her vehicle, and the weapon in the front seat.

"I could look into making new ammunition types for this. If they have a certain biological weakness, like a certain chemical, I could definitely rig a way to synthesize it en masse and convert it to our current ammo types."

Hound smiled at Alpha, "Awesome. I'm not sure if biological or chemical weapons would be effective, but if there is some kind of weakness like in a video game, then you and Eric will be the first to know. We should mainly focus on high explosive ammunition. If you could whip up a more potent HE round, that might be more implementable than specific chemical rounds, especially when we encounter heavy armor."

Shilo nodded at Hound's request, looking to Nara who was looking between the man and Oscar. Her hazel brown eyes seemed to be sizing the men up, in a similar way Shilo always did, but with a different intent. When the Leader sized someone up, it was to find their weaknesses so she could take them in a fight, when the hacker did it, she was collecting data. Learning everything she could about a person by how they held themselves. When eyes turned to her for a moment, she blushed and looked back at her computer, suddenly very busy typing something quickly with a single hand.

Shilo shrugged as the man explained the reasons their information was lacking. "It happens. Our Team is almost specifically built with stealth missions and information gathering in mind. Vincent, Xander, and I are really the only ones with offensive experience." The woman explained, which was technically true, though she had made sure that each member of the Team could, more or less, handle themselves in a basic fight, the wouldn't do much against people with genuine experience like Alpha, or anyone from the group standing in front of them. At Laz's warning, Eric scoffed quietly to himself, Artemis smirked and gently pushed her brother, but both were silenced by a hard look from Shilo.

As Alpha spoke, Eric seemed genuinely intrigued by the comment about chemicals, but looked back at Hound with a bored expression when he shot that down. "I've been working on some pretty heavy hitting HE rounds for the past few weeks." Xander spoke up. "I've been playing around with solid shots in smaller calibers. Me and Eric worked out the perfect ratio to get a .45 shooting enough power to blow the front wheels off of a Prowler." He grinned at the memory of such a stupid looking car getting blown to bits. It had been a bitch with the kick back, but shooting it out of a handgun had been fun as Hell.

Alpha frowned under her helmet. It seemed she was less and less of use, aside from the railgun, to the group. Her combat experience didn't mean anything if anything that hit her would force her into a long recovery, or outright kill her, while even the inexperienced had a better shot at surviving. The woman would straighten up, and look inward. Maybe she could develop a mass-produced version of her rifle? If she could distribute it, especially in a smaller package, it would definitely go a long way.

"I think we can discuss this later. Right now, I think we should be actively preparing, since I believe we have our teams ready?"

She asked, checking her systems again

The Air Force Combat Controller, technician, engineer, computer specialist, and everything in between of the Guardians had his hands full talking to the brains. He missed being able to have nerd talked with so many people. It was refreshing and, to be honest, a bit hectic, but this took Hound back and filled him with energy. He laughed at the prospect of a .45 ACP being able to blast a wheel off of a car. That is some serious power. "Awesome, man. If you got that down, hopefully it won't be too hard to get it for 9 millimeter, .357 Magnum, 5.7 and .50 AE. Everyone in my team is going to be clambering for a beefier round in their preferred caliber. I think Alpha might be help design guns that can handle the extra kick. Am I right, Alpha?"

As Hound took his time talking about ammo, Oscar shuffled a bit nervously behind him. He still felt really awkward, even when half of this Team 73 dressed like people he would meet in college if he was in college right now. The thought that these people were all crazy elite secret agents kinda scared Oscar. But wouldn't he feel the same if he was in a room of strangers without knowing that those people could kill him like nothing? Whatever.

Oscar just kept quiet as Hound and Lazarus did the talking and just checked out the girls in the meantime. Team 73's female members were attractive in their own ways, one was a bad ass in leather, one gave off the rich girl vibe, one was kinda rebellious, and one was kinda nerdy yet cute at the same time, always being on her laptop...and blushing when Oscar's eyes lingered a bit too long. Ugh, he was being a creep, wasn't he? Oscar slid out his phone from his pocket in an effort to distract himself with a few games before he did something to embarrass himself in front of the ladies.

With Hound being the major presence and conversationalist in the room, the leader of the Guardians had the freedom to work out the "subteams" based on the sparse data he had on Team 73. It would've been better for them to have trained as a platoon-sized group for a few weeks before he assigned them to groups, but time was a luxury they didn't have. Everyone would just have to adapt as they go.

Team Jupiter lead by Hound with Oscar and Alpha in tow was support, so leaving the techie, Nara, and the doctor, Quincy, seemed like a wise choice. Personally, the Gunnery Sergeant would've liked to worked with someone with more medical expertise, but it doesn't seem like Quincy have the combat training to keep up with Laz.

Team Ares was led by Mask, with Salvo and Hendricks. Xander was already an ideal skill set to synergize with Laura, so he was a no-brainer. The other choice was difficult, but the team might benefit from greater synergy if Carmen was with them, what with her brother already being there and her already being acquainted with Mask.

Now there was Team Nyx with Void, Malcolm, and Abaddon. Those three were scary people in a very gruesome sense, but having, Eric's chemical and biological weapons expertise could make them even more effective. Might as well put his sibling Artemis to keep him company in the face of the scariest people in the Guardians.

With all of that said, that left Laz's Team Helios with Tami, Gabrielle, Shilo, and Vincent. This team is going to be filled with combat hardened veterans, but that's fine for the role they're taking. The only person he worried about is Tami. She is young, inexperienced, and still trying to control her powers. But this id what Laz here for; to make sure she stayed calm and in control to prevent her from slipping. Maybe Mask could've helped Tami, but Laz was the one took responsibility, not Mask. Tami needed Lazarus.

After completing the current team roster, Laz waited for Hound finish whatever conversation he was in before displaying the team rosters for all to see. "Here are the team assignments based on what I think are the most ideal combinations of skills and preexisting synergy. I don't know much about you guys' relationships, so if there is anything that you feel should be changed, feel free to let me know. These teams are tentative until the show actually gets on the road. If there are no objects, Hound will be taking Team Jupiter and Team Ares to a location where he intends to...get to know the teams."

"It's nothing too special, just a couple team building exercises and a few 'toys' we can 'play' with. I'll basically get you guys up to speed on the kind of gear we're issued and figure out what kind of neat gadgets you guys have."

"The rest of us will stay here and wait for our contractors to come. They're running later that they said they would, which is really strange. If they don't come in thirty minutes...they should come in thirty minutes max."

The Team was going to be sure that everyone, including Alpha, had a suit of armor that allowed them to handle a few hits from the Ashbourne. Granted, they wouldn’t be able to actually test due to the fact that they didn’t know what the Ashbourne’s weapons were made out of to make them so sharp, but at least the elemental aspect would be taken care of. As long as people could dodge, they should be able to take the creatures in a fight. Shilo wouldn’t have asked Alpha to come if she figured the monster would be useless. They needed all hands on deck, and Alpha was definitely going to be useful.

Xander shook his head at Hound. “Nah, dude. We got it. Eric already made a chart for a list of what he thinks the ratio should be for each round. We’ll run a couple test shots to make sure it’s right but,” Eric smirked.

“They’re right.” He stated confidently. Though he wasn’t idiotic enough to say they shouldn’t test. That could easily cause issues.

Xander turned to Alpha at Hound’s suggestion. “Honestly, that would be great. I’ve been working on a design to handle the kick-back, but you have experience with hard hitting gun design. I’ll definitely need your help with that.” He agreed with a nod and a smile. His smile was a little more awkward than his sister’s charming, cute smile. But there was a kind of cuteness to it in that.

Nara kept looking up from her laptop from time to time, before looking back down at typing something else. She was glad no-one could see it, considering she was basically just typing things like ‘just look busy so it seems like you’re doing something’, and ‘Everyone is really cute, but don’t let that bother you’. Sort of things. Just messages to keep her social anxiety under control. Nara noticed when Oscar pulled his phone out to play games, and a gentle smile tugged at her lips. It was helpful, actually, knowing she wasn’t the only one who had some form of anxiety around social situations. “Oh,” Nara finally spoke up when she figured it was important. “Would you all be okay with wearing cameras? They’ll be small, you won’t even notice them, but it would help with gather data.” Her voice was gentle, and her eyes gauged how each person took the question. It was clear, by how her eyes flicked around, that information gathering was her natural state of being.

“Wait,” Artemis said, looking to Shilo in a state of confusion. “I’m going to be in the field?” As the fashion consort and make-up artist, her job had always been to set up outfits and prosthetic for undercover missions. She was damn good at her job and could make just about anyone look like just about, well, anyone. Field work wasn’t her specialty unless it had to do with distracting someone, which she was very good at.

Shilo sighed, closing her eyes. “We’ve been over this, Artemis, and I’m not about to get into it again. Stop trying to be lazy.” The raven haired woman’s gaze didn’t move toward the blonde woman as if the act itself would have been too much effort to put into the argument. Artemis rolled her eyes. “Fine, but I better be getting a bow.”
    Eric
chuckled and wrapped his arm around his sister’s shoulders, pressing a kiss to her hair.

Carmen grinned happily when she heard what team she’d be on. “I get to see my man in action.” She bounced her shoulders a bit in excitement, which would have been considered flirtatious of Mask was among the group. Instead, it came of as a bit childish and like she wasn’t taking the situation very seriously. Which she wasn’t. Not because she didn’t think it was serious, but because that was just who she was as a person.

Shilo and Vincent looked over the list of teams carefully, gauging what they knew about the Team and what little they knew about everyone else. “Carmen,” Vincent's gaze turned to the pixie haired girl. “Are you going to be able to work with Salvo?” She rolled her eyes and waved her hand as if she was batting the question away.

“As long as he doesn’t share Mask’s dirty laundry like he did last time, we’ll be fine. Besides, I’ll have Hendricks with me.” She wasn’t about to ruin a mission just because she had one bad experience with someone. Nonetheless, it was Vincent’s job to make sure. The marine nodded, handing the list back the Laz. “I see no issues. Especially with you and Shilo being able to run emergency medical if need be, that should work out fine.”

    Carmen
perked up at the mention of team building exercises. “Like trust falls and stuff?” She asked, clasping her hands behind her back. “That sounds pretty fun.” Xander rolled his eyes, giving Hound a ‘sorry about her’ look as Nara closed her laptop and placed it back in her bag.

“Oh, that should be easy, I have a full list of everything.” Nara stated. “We can go over that though...I mean, it might take a while.” She admitted.

Alpha nodded to her team. Hound, Oscar, Nara, and Quincy. She smiled, under her helmet. For so long, she had to patch herself up, fix and make her own gear, and improvise as she went. It was nice, she thought, to have some allies.

"My armor's going to need the dialysis system in my current armor. It's.....necessary."

She said, without going into deep detail. She could just give them her current armor for study, since if they just replicated the system, it would work fine. She nodded to hound after, looking to him and then continuing.

"Anyhow, you said something about team building? I'd say that's more than necessary, given this will be my first operation with a team."

She had known Shilo, a little, and only as an operative. Alpha personally didn't see why she thought they were friends given how little they spoke, but didn't challenge that.

"I'd like to go ahead and move onto that."

If Eric and Xander got the mixtures for the ammunition they were talking about, then everyone would be happen once they get those rounds in production. Of course, the tricky part of the process would be figuring how to keep those rounds off the market after the Ashborne strike. The Guardians already have their hands full dealing with remnant eXceeded, so having rounds like those to deal with also? There would be chaos. But the same went for almost all of the tech the Guardians used. They just had to be quiet professionals and clean up nice after themselves. "I'll leave it to you guys to figure out how you want to get these produced without letting normies getting a hold of them."

"Cam-cameras?" When Oscar heard Nara ask that the team wear cameras, he sputtered out in confusion and surprise. Thoughts raced through the kid's mind about about why Nara would want see what they were doing. Any strange thoughts were quickly pushed out of his mind when he took all to long to realize that she probably mean that they should wear cameras to collect data on the Ashborne. Even though he didn't actual express his thoughts, he was still embarrassed he sputtered something out and thought those thoughts. "Uhm...yeah. Cameras would be...fine. We'll give you access to our... whatchamacallit ...uhh ... helmet cams! Yeah, we'll give you access to our helmet ja-...cams! So you can collect whatever...data you need"

As with Oscar, Laura voiced her affirmation, though with more confidence and enthusiasm than Oscar, "Yeah! If it helps us to get an advantage over the enemy, go for it!"

Hound placed a gentle hand on Oscar's shoulder and squeezed lightly to calm him down. The kid was socially awkward enough when he was with strangers, but talking to stranger that just so happened to be a girl took Oscar's awkwardness to a whole new level. "Like the kids said, we're perfectly fine with cams. I'll patch you into our cam feeds and on board sensor suites."

Lazarus watched as Artemis complained to her team leader about being a field operative. Neither Gunnery Sergeant nor his fellow Guardians liked to deal with whiners-if they didn't have the will to keep shut and power on, they shouldn't be here-, but Laz also understood that Artemis would've had minimal combat experience given her role. "If it's any consolidation, Void, Abaddon, and Patel will do the heavy lifting in terms of combat. You and Eric will fill a support within the subteam. Also, you're free to borrow one of Gabrielle's bows whenever she gets here. She will have plenty to spare."

The leader of the Guardians felt the need to justify Salvo when Vincent and Carmen discussed the potential issue with Salvo's behavior. However, Laz held back. Salvo's words were far from family-friendly and he wasn't the best at reading people, but as provocative as his words were, his heart was just as big. It wasn't Laz's battle to fight; it was Salvo's character that needed to be shown, not told.

To Vincent's analysis of Team Helios and the others, Lazarus nodded in affirmation. "Great. I'll put together a couple more team rosters later on to fit other roles."

All the enthusiasm for his "team-bonding exercises" surprised Hound a little bit, though he was also glad that the people he's working with were eager to cooperate. That was a good start for developing camaraderie. With his excitement, he didn't even notice Xander's eyeroll as he shared with Alpha and Carmen, "Not quite trust falls, but we'll be sharing some of our deepest, darkest, secrets...not really. I have a few icebreakers planned for us and then we can mess around with a bunch of my old gadgets and spare parts to see if we can make anything cool out of them. If you guys are so eager to get going, we'll drive there. Some can give Oscar and Hendricks a ride though, right? Laz told me after we left that he wanted to keep the car."

Artemis quirked an eyebrow for just a moment at the mention of Void, but she flipped her hair and shrugged. Anyone who knew the blonde knew that her response was one of interest that she was trying to hide. “If she doesn’t mind sharing.” She murmured in response to Gabrielle’s bows. Of course, the Team had their own set of combat bows that the girl could use. Maybe she and Gabrielle could pool resources and find the perfect weapons for them between the two. She crossed her arms over her chest, however, at Lazarus’s tone, which caused her brother to chuckle. Eric leaned into her ear and whispered something which she responded to by hitting him lightly in the chest before stepping away. “I’m not a Prima Donna.” She grumbled. Her complaint caused the entire Team to laugh, even Shilo smiled.

The blonde huffed before she turned to Alpha at the female’s request. Her tone softened, more professional and far less bratty.
“Alright, that shouldn’t be too hard. We can duplicate it, maybe even make it better. If you want to talk to Quincy and me about it, we’ll work something out.” The blonde woman was a master at design, but when it came to things as important as dialysis system, Quincy would have to step in with his medical knowledge. “Otherwise I’ll just mimic the one you have.”

“Oh, don’t worry about the production of the bullets.” Xander
said, waving off Hound’s worries. “The Team doesn’t outsource most of our equipment, we tend to make our own. Naturally, that requires having the ability and the resources to make things like our own bullets in mass when we make a new round.” The man explained. After all, they were a highly secretive organization that only the very, very few even knew about. But no means were they going to compromise that by outsourcing to any kind of dealer or, well, basically anything unless it was an absolute necessity. “We’ll have it set up with enough rounds for everyone easy. No need for anyone else to have that ability. The last thing we need is that level of fire power on the streets for everyone else to deal with.” Though, if it was an issue that the Team somehow managed to make, the Team would clean it up and not leave it to local authorities. Nonetheless, there should be no worry about that whatsoever.

Nara’s attention was on Oscar has he stumbled over his words. She stood patiently, waiting for him to finish before she nodded with a smile. “Great!” The brunette gave a nod as Laura and Hound agreed as well. “It’ll just allow me to keep track of everything going on.” She explained, more for Oscar’s benefit than anything else as he seemed to be the one questioning it the most. “Not only will I be able to learn how to track the movements of the Ashboune, but I’ll also be able to have an easy communication with everyone over all. In the heat of the moment, sometimes it helps to have a watchful eye.” Nara spoke carefully, articulating each word with precision. While some people’s anxiety caused them to trip over their words, Nara’s forced her to slow down her speech so she could say everything accurately.

At the mention of sharing deepest darkest secrets, the four Team member all looked at one another knowingly. Funnily enough, that had actually been a big part of Team 73’s building exercises when they all first met. They told each other literally everything about their lives that could have been of any importance or could have caused any issue among them. They learned to work with each other knowing every detail that had formed each and every one of them into the people they were today. But that had been because they were going to be working with one another for the rest of their lives, not for just one mission. Luckily, Hound quickly dropped the joke.

Carmen lifted her hand. “I have two seats, and I assume Nara is taking Moby, so there are an extra three seats there, if you wanna ride with us Alpha.” At the mention of his car’s name, Vincent pulled the keys from his pocket and tossed them to the hat wearing girl, who caught it by lifting both hands but turning her head and closing her eyes on the off chance she missed and they hit her in the face. “I’d offer up Mysh but-,”

“You’d be dead on the spot.” Shilo
shot a glance at Carmen who responded with a cheeky grin.

“I love it when she gets all protective.” The mechanic winked at her leader before they headed for the cars, leaving Shilo to sigh and shake her head at the older woman's antics.

Alpha shrugged, heading towards the cars. As she went, she opened her Passenger door, and grabbed her Railgun. It was modular, so she simply took it apart and put it into a case, before taking it to the car called "Moby"

"Yeah. I'll go with you guys. My SUV's a burner anyhow."

She said, putting the case in the trunk, and getting into the rear of the car. Frankly, she wanted to take her helmet off, and didn't want to be a bother by being up front.

"Ready to go whenever."

Hound shot Xander a thumbs up as an affirmative. It must be nice to have all the productions method in-house. That would definitely be more handy for Hound if he could make gear like that. However, numerous incidents in the past have made the suits lose trust in "self-made equipment". These days, most of their production has been outsourced to either Athens Heavy Industrial or Blackwell Tactical. At the very least, neither company slacks on the quality of the equipment and are willing to accept custom orders. The former was something like Lockheed-Martin, except they can actually meet deadlines and the latter was like FN Herstal, but smaller and better.

Oscar's nervousness spiked a little bit more when Nara began to explain what the cameras were for slowly. Not only did she think that he didn't know what cameras could be used for, she talked slower because she thought Oscar was too dumb to understand properly. Dammit! He really was dumb for thinking all those weird thoughts and verbally expressing his confusion. Oscar wasn't going to live this down for a long time. He was a smart guy, but now everyone thinks he's a blubbering idiot thanks to some lewd thoughts. His stupid stutter wasn't doing anything to help either, "Yeah...yeah...I-I...know what cameras can-can be used for. I know about tech like-li-like this."

"Carmen, please don't kill the kids with your driving, it makes me look irresponsible," Hound joked as he motioned for the rookies to go outside. Now, he could take a ride with the rookies to make sure they stay out of trouble, but...on the other hand, he had to come up with something for his teammates to bond over. He only planned for a small group of nerds, but as of this morning now he was temporarily in charge of Mask's team while he was off "attending business".

Hound didn't wait for the others when he got outside as he used his powers to make his journey expedited. Getting down to a four point start, Hound focused his power into his legs before he launched off. All that was left behind was a small cloud of dust where Hound set off and a figure in the distance that was getting further away by the second.

For Oscar, Hound's request to leave was a bit of a relief; it meant that he didn't have to deal with his actions upfront. Oscar took an awkward step back and stumbled, unsure of how to walk for a brief moment. He quickly righted himself and walked outside in embarrassment. What was he doing here with all these pros and people with actual experience. He was just a kid with anxiety issues that hasn't grown up yet.

As he walked, Laura followed close behind and gave his hand a quick squeeze. She gave him one of her signature bright, gleaming smiles and reassured him, "Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing better. You actually spoke in complete sentences this time. I know you're going to overcome this in no time."

"'No time' has been two years..." Oscar grumbled. It's been two years since he joined the Guardians, but in his eyes, he hasn't gotten much better at anything except his powers. Even then, he was a mess at controlling them.

"It's just a saying! I'm telling you, look how far you've come. The first day we met, you couldn't even speak to me. Now, you're speaking in front of nine strangers, five of which are girls." Despite his lack of confidence, Laura wasn't having any of it. All the way to where Team 73's cars were parked, she battered Oscar with encouraging words and reassurances. It was just something that the rookie needed, as much as he refused. Eventually, when the two got to the cars, Oscar relented to Laura and began to believe what she said about him.

"Yeah...I guess I can do it...I just have to try harder." Without even thinking about it, Oscar got into the shotgun seat of the car he saw. Unfortunately for him, this car was "Moby". As he soon discovered, there was already someone in the car. It was that armored girl named...Alpha. Oscar just looked straight ahead and took deep breaths as he tried to make some small talk. Laura would be there to bail him out if he ever messed up. "Hey...you're Alpha right? Nice to meet you, I'm-I'm Oscar. I'm the nerdy guy from earlier. If I can as-ask...why do you wear that armor?...I'm-I'm not trying to be weird or any-anything! I'm j-just curious!"

Laura was already mentally facepalming herself in light of what Oscar decided would be a good way to start a conversation, but she promised to not step in until he was having an actual mental breakdown. He needed to be able to talk without people bailing him out.

Nara blinked as Oscar responded and she shook her head. “No, I wasn’t trying to say you didn’t know. I was just explaining...sorry.” She murmured, looking down at her shoes to avoid his gaze. Damn, she’d really just made him feel like she thought he was an idiot and that wasn’t what she was trying to do at all...Dammit, Nara...do better. She thought to herself as she followed everyone out. She pressed the button on the key chain that unlocked the gray Chrysler 300 and got into the driver’s seat.

Quincy followed Nara out, squeezing her shoulder as they did so. The brunette smiled up at him, glad for the comfort. The two of them had a rather silent bond, considering neither particularly liked talking. The medic sat behind his Teammate, deciding the back was fine with him if someone else wanted to sit up front. The doctor sighed silently as the kid, Oscar, started stumbling out more words to start a conversation with Alpha. By no means was the blonde annoyed with the young man, but sympathized. Despite years of speech therapy and just regular therapy, Quincy had a rather awful stutter himself, especially when it came to social situations that had to do with women. Of course, it was for very different reasons than the boy, he assumed, but the outcome was still the same. Quincy’s blue eyes turned to Laura as she sat and listened to her teammate continued to come off as awkward.

Carmen rolled her eyes at Hound. “If your guys can’t handle a little speed then why are they even here.” She teased. Xander chuckled as he got into the car, buckling up and sitting back as his sister revved the engine before peeling away, burning the tires a bit just to prove a point to Hound who was already ahead of them. Despite the Guardian’s request, the mechanic really didn’t take it that easy. She drove fast and took turns with a drift. When she made it to the area that Hound wanted them in, she smirked and pulled up on the hand break, sending the car into a spin as she landed perfectly in a parked position.

The pixie haired girl exited the vehicle, leaning against her open door and looking at the Guardian with wide, innocent eyes as if she’d done absolutely nothing wrong. Which, technically she hadn’t, but it probably scared a few people. Xander got out of the car, leaving his door open for anyone who had been in the car with them to follow out. He was used to his sister’s driving, so it didn’t really bother him anymore, which was nice.

The man shoved his hands in his pockets as he stood there, a bit more awkward than his sister’s more extroverted and cute personality, but not nearly as awkward as
Nara or Oscar. It was the kind of awkwardness that came from having a sibling that usually carried the conversation. “So, you’re...super fast.” Xander nodded as he looked at Hound. “That’s pretty badass.”

    “Hey, Hound,” Carmen
jumped in as she closed the door to her car and walked over to them. “Are Mask and Salvo going to join us or is it just us?” There was no shame in the innocent smile she gave the man.

Nara’s driving was very different from the other woman’s. While Carmen drove like a daredevil, the hacker drove the speed limit and like a normal citizen should. She reached the area a bit after her Teammate because of that, but she didn’t care. They were safe, no laws were broken, and her Co-Leader wasn’t going to kill her for wrecking his car, it worked out.

Alpha
Alpha was quiet while Oscar stuttered an attempt at conversation, though quickly found herself unsure. Should she tell him what her armor does? Her hands were already at the latch to her helmet, and his scared (she thought it was scared, but she didn't really know if it was. She was hardly socially adjusted.) demeanor meant that he might freak out if she showed her face, but the lifeless gaze of her helmet might freak him out more. After a second of deliberation, she decided to tell him why, and show her face.

"The armor has an advanced dialysis system that converts a portion of my blood into a substance known as 'determination'. In order to keep my body from breaking down, I need doses about every four hours. The armor is mostly a hands-free way of getting the doses, and it removes the need for remembering."

She said, before the helmet's airtight seal hissed, and she removed the helmet, shaking her head after. The...well...goat, looked around. Her right eye was blue, not only in her iris, but within her sclera and pupil as well, giving it a tinted appearance. Her left was hidden under a black eyepatch, which looked kinda cheap. She had small horns, long floppy ears, and what looked like a ponytail of fur she had grown out on the back of her head. Her fur was white, and oddly enough, she had fangs. Alpha's gaze was almost like she felt....hunted. It darted from person to person, as if trying to gauge whether or not she had made the wrong choice.

"I don't need it, because I keep a spare, miniturized version, on me at all times. I can wear normal clothes, and do when I'm alone. "

Alpha finished, quietly, looking away, out of the window.

"Oh...okay..." Oscar didn't know how to respond to someone needing a machine that got some kind of substance out of their blood just to live. Alpha's life depended on this machine in her armor and Oscar just couldn't believe it. It was at this point that he grew more self-conscious. What would happen if he ever lost control of his powers around her? Would he accidentally break that machine and kill her? What if he made the machine take too much blood out of her body or give a dangerous dose of this 'determination'? Oscar could only focus on driving these thoughts out of his mind as Nara drove them to where Hound was meeting them. When he first got his powers, he knew he hurt a lot of people just by accidentally causing a blackout. He didn't to do the same with Alpha. Oscar just closed his eyes and took deep breaths as tried to recompose himself.

The young man didn't even notice when Alpha took off her helmet to reveal her...goatness...but Laura did. She was initially surprised at the idea of an anthropomorphic goat, but that soon was replaced with admiration. "Oh my gosh! You're so pretty. I don't think I've ever seen anyone quite like you, but I've seen people with all kinds of eXceed mutations and transformations, and this is definitely one of the prettiest forms I've seen. Your fur looks so soft...can I touch it?"

Back with Hound, the Air Force soldier reached the point where his teams were supposed to meet in a matter of seconds. Being able to go hundreds of miles an hour definitely helped with that. The location was, surprisingly, another warehouse, only this one was much smaller and much nicer than the one he was just at. It was a rental, unlike the other one, which they basically just trespassed. Not like that mattered, since it was foreclosed and the bank hardly gave a crap about such a remote piece of land.

There Hound waited with his tablet, trying to come up with ideas of how to make his teams not hate each other. All the ideas he came up with were only good for children, like grade school children. It was embarrassing to even entertain the idea of using them on adults. With time running out, those trust falls that Carmen so desperately wanted to do almost sounded like a good idea. Almost.

Within minutes, Hound's time was up, as he heard the screeching of tires right outside. Looks like Carmen didn't want to drive like a sane person. Perfectly fine by him as long as there aren't children, explosives, or his stuff in the car Carmen drives. Hound exited the warehouse and greeted Carmen and Xander as they got out of the car. The first thing that was asked was about his powers, to no one's surprise. "Yeah. Super speed is part of it, but I like to call it 'manipulating vectors at acute angles'. Anyways, Mask and the others will not be joining us today, as great as it would be. I'm sure you would love to see your boo, Carmen, but he's doing an op right now."

Hound led them into the warehouse, a rather small place, but lined up against the walls were four folding tables loaded with all kinds of mechanical parts and gadgets, as well as two folding tables with simple laptop setups and drones on top. It was close to a techie's dream, but short a couple of custom desktops and 3D printers. Hound pulled up two folding chairs for the siblings and one for himself. "So, while we wait for the slow pokes to arrive, why don't I tell you what I have planned and get to know each other. Since Carmen so vehemently suggested that we do trust falls, we will do trust falls. But...we do them my way. After that, we'll do 'Two Truths One Lie' and play with the stuff I have here, because I honestly didn't prepare for this nearly as well as I should. I'm always open to ideas."

Alpha
Alpha was surprised by the reaction. Before she could say or do anything to comfort Oscar, as she felt that she had made the wrong decision, she was bombarded by Laura's compliments and her request to pet her. Her eyebrows knit together as she looked back at Laura, confusedly. The girl looked uncomfortable with the notion, and shook her head slightly (slightly, so as to not flop her long ears about.).

"Er......sorry....no."

Alpha said, shifting in her seat. Suddenly, she wanted to put the helmet back on, but that might scare Oscar even more than she already had. She looked to everyone in the car, trying to gauge their reaction, outside of Laura.

Nara drove silently, focusing on the road. The two Team member in the car just allowed the others to have their interactions as they sat silently, trying not to smile too much at Laura’s reaction to Alpha. She parked Moby next to Carmen’s Camaro, turned off the car, and exited it with a silent sigh. In all honesty, she didn’t want to do Team building exercises. Though, she was looking forward to getting to know Hound and Oscar better, as well as Laura and Alpha, the hacker really wanted to sit down and work on the program she’d been creating. However, maybe Hound’s contraptions would be fun.

Xander nodded. “Okay, cool.” He murmured, imagining how that looked if he could actually view it. That was pretty bad ass. Carmen crossed her arms and pouted a bit at Hound’s response. “Well, as long as I get to see him soon, we’ll be fine.” She decided finally. The words of Void and Mask ran through her head and she smiled a bit.
    You like her?
Real funny. You wouldn't ask if you didn't know, and you only asked because she can hear us.

The twins followed the Guardian into the warehouse, Carmen kept her eyes on Hound while Xander’s gaze flitted around, taking in his surroundings. “Yis!” The mechanic grinned happily, skipping just a bit as Hound decided to take up her idea. She tilted her head to the side as he added that they were doing it ‘his way’. “What’s...your way?” The woman asked, looking toward her twin who merely shrugged in response. And then the shoe dropped. Two truths and a lie. Carmen spun her lip piercing with her tongue, and Xander watched her carefully. It would be fine if she chose her words carefully and it wasn’t like it was Never Have I Ever.

“We could play hot potato, and anytime someone loses they have to tell us a fact about themselves.” Xander said, turning his attention back to Hound. “Or, No Smiling. Um…” He rubbed the back of his neck as he tried to think of something else. “On the Team, I shot stuff off of people’s heads and shit.”
