in depth | alex can normally be described as someone who is incredibly loyal, but he lacks the motivation sometimes. even though he's quite intelligent, he lacks a lot of common sense, and his younger sister likes to recall a time when alex tried making a smoothie and forgot to put the lid on the blender. the oldest of three, alex learned from a young age that being soft would get him nowhere, as it was ingrained in to him by his father, who is no longer present in alex's life but has left a lasting effect on his child. and so, at first glance, alex can be described as closed off and 'weird,' but this is just a mask he puts on to prevent himself from being hurt. alex is also a closeted homosexual, and his worst fear is being outed.

mallory roberts | alex's mother. alex is a true momma's boy, and she's the only one - besides robin - who knows about his homosexuality. remarried when alex was thirteen to marcus roberts.
addison roberts | alex's younger sister. age six. alex and addison can be described as best friends, but he pretends that she gets on his nerves a lot.
elizabeth roberts | alex's younger sister. age four. alex is extremely overprotective of his 'baby sister,' and he loves her to death.
marcus roberts | alex's step-father. he and his step-father have a rocky relationship, but marcus helped alex get a job at the general store, and they're both trying to be better.
david jacobs | alex's father. david was verbally abusive to his son as he was growing up, and when alex was eleven, he abandoned the family. alex has no idea of his whereabouts, and doesn't really care.

robin | alex's best friend. the two were completely attached at the hip growing up, and that relationship is still in tact today. robin is the only one besides alex's mom who knows about his homosexuality.
george maxwell | alex's friend. the two used to get high and write songs in george's basement, but the two haven't been talking much lately.
joyce byers | alex's coworker. he could often call joyce his second mother.
nicholas anderson | alex's friend, who alex often buys weed from.
jamie ridgway | acquaintance. he often helped her out with homework in high school, but he wouldn't call them friends.

biography.

background | born june seventeenth, nineteen sixty-seven, to david and mallory jacobs, alex had a pretty decent first couple of years. it was shortly after when david, when alex was seven, got laid off at his job and began to turn to alcohol and verbal abuse to his wife and son. alex suffered at his hands for four years, and the effects still haunt him to this day. david and mallory got divorced when alex was eleven, and mallory remarried two years later to a man named marcus roberts. alex was very distant towards marcus at first, but when his little sisters were born, alex began to warm up to him considerably. this was also around the time when alex began to question his sexuality.

at age fifteen, alex had his first kiss with hayden puette, who moved away the following week. this caused alex to start becoming incredibly distant romantically, and his sexuality was again under scrutiny with alex. he pushed that side of himself away for years, until he crossed paths with steve harrington. he graduated the following year, and continued working at the general store with joyce byers, hearing about everything happening in hawkins from robin. his slowly forming crush on steve didn't help those matters, especially when robin began working with steve at the mall.
