Name: Dr. Ryan Alston
Age: 36
Gender: Cis male
Sexuality: Aroace
Height: 5'7
Weight: 140 lbs
Backstory: Ryan was born the only son of a chemist and a surgeon, and the pressure to surpass his parents was on his shoulders from day one. His wants and desires were considered futile next to the potential benefit someone of his intellect could bring to the bunker, so his childhood was swept aside in favor of constant schooling and careful behavioral management. Once his mutation began to manifest, his parents quickly went to work hiding it and urging him not to get too close to his classmates. They told him that they didn't want him to be distracted from his studies, but in truth, they simply knew how disastrous his mutant status could be to his reputation and worked diligently to keep it hidden for the sake of their legacies.

As a result of all of this, Ryan lead a life of isolation. He grew up without friends to speak of, and he learned to hide his emotions and flatten his tone in order to keep things that way. Even with his physical health deteriorating and leaving him with chronic migraines and a perpetual sense of exhaustion, he learned not to let his guard slip, lest the watchful eyes of his parents bear down even harder. Still, in the rare moments of privacy he got, he tried to train his mutation, feeling it was the one connection he had to his real self. This dance of secrecy went on for decades. He went into advanced education, became a physicist, and rose through the ranks by way of careful manipulation of his cohorts and sheer workaholism.

One day, the charade came to an abrupt end. A disgruntled colleague whom Ryan had previously burned out of a higher rank dug through his past and found a snippet of a journal from his target's youthโ€”a snippet detailing the progress he had made in harnessing his mutation. Ryan's life quickly fell apart following the reveal. Work opportunities were handed off to his other colleagues, and he was eventually shuffled off of the science team entirely. He lost his living quarters shortly after, and managed to save only the few belongings he was able to strap to his back in a briefcase. Worse yet, he had drawn the ire of his parents, whose reputation had also taken a hit thanks to his scandal. He wasn't sure if they would try to have him killed just to clean their slate of him, but he knew it wouldn't be entirely out of character either. With nothing left to lose and his life's purpose left meaningless, he escaped the vault to try his luck on the outside.
Weapon: His hidden ace is a pre-war semi-automatic pistol (similar in appearance to the modern day Kel-Tec PMR-30) kept in his coat's inside pocket, though he only uses it in strict moderation as ammo is scarce. Apart from that, he fights mostly with what he can scrape together in the moment. Though he was never trained in combat, he is naturally adept with mid-length blunt weapons such as baseball bats and old pipes.
Mutation: Technokinesisโ€”the ability to control machines. He can control the machine's movements, and can also meld his mind temporarily with the machine's internal computations in order to see and hear what the machine does. His initial control range is line-of-sight, though with enough focus, he can continue to control the machine from out of sight up to 30 ft away. Unfortunately, due to his upbringing stunting his mutation's development, it isn't the war-ender it seems to be on paper. He experiences severe physical and psychological drawbacks that scale with the security level of the machine, which puts a time limit on how long he can use his abilities before causing severe harm to himself.

For example: a hobbyist security drone or an early robot with lower cyberdefense systems may be controlled for up to an hour before his symptoms become overbearing. A military-grade assault mech, on the other hand, may only be held back for a scarce few minutes. Using his mutation in any amount will quickly sap his already low energy, cause temporary psychosis from the robot's senses and his own being meshed, trigger migraines of varying intensity, and raise his blood pressure until it gets to the point of hypertensive crisis. Under more intense use, he may need the rest of the day to recover before performing even basic tasks again. Other factors that can influence how hard his drawbacks impact him include prior health issues, distance from the machine, time spent mind-melded, whether or not the machine is in his line-of-sight, and whether or not Eternity is in active control of the machine.
Cybernetics: Ocular implants that not only fixed his vision problems years ago, but brought his eyesight slightly above average and now allow him to see in 20/15 vision. He wears prop glasses in order to trick survivors (and hopefully the AI) into thinking he has an easily-exploitable weakness. He also has an implant in his right hand that allows it to write just as good as his left, though as a side effect it has also caused his right hand to have slightly superhuman grip strength.
Talents: Ryan is extremely skilled with numbers, and can apply these skills to his current life by calculating how long he can survive off of his current supplies, estimating how quickly different robots can move, and, though he isn't an engineer, drawing up rough schematics for buildings and contraptions. Unfortunately, his training and work was always in theory, so he has a hard time actually building anything. He also tends to move very quietly without really thinking about it, and his learned poker face makes it difficult to spot when something is bothering him, making it hard to target him with any direct psychological manipulation.

A talent he rarely seems to touch, yet also seems to be beneficial to him, is his talent for poetry and prose. He has a very keen sense of rhyme and meter, and carries a notebook where he writes poems and prose for only his eyes to see. This is the one talent he seems to actively enjoy developing, though this is again hard for the untrained eye to discern. Plus, his upbringing has trained him to feel guilty and even somewhat insecure over this hobby as it has nothing to do with scientific pursuits or the betterment of society.
Hobbies: Beyond his hidden book of poems, he has no hobbies and is reluctant to develop any. His upbringing has made it difficult for him to shut off his work brain, so to speak, and he considers most hobbies to be an unnecessary waste of time.
Theme: "It wasn't supposed to be this way // We were meant to feel the pain" (I Am Machine - Three Days Grace)
Other: Due to his chronic fatigue, Ryan is easily bribed with stimulants like caffeine that help him feel slightly less like a zombie. Also, despite technically having the ability to control light drones for a full hour, he rarely ever does so on account of trying to stay under Eternity's radar. His mutation may slowly grow stronger over the course of the RP, but only if he's given ample opportunity to train it.
