Chapter 1: What is a Hero? (COMPLETED)

"Hmm not good. Not good at all." Sarutobi said, muttering to himself solemnly while watching the scene unfold before him.


"Last chance! Open up!" Bellowed an abnormally large and grotesque demon. Round belly, boogly-eyed, murky green skin and perfectly yellow teeth. He/it(?) stood firmly in the center of a street, behind him were a platoon of demon soldiers standing single file. 'Of course, the uglier they are the higher-up they are. This must make him a general of sorts' thought the Chimp-Man speculatively, rubbing his chin. He stood upon a hill looking down on the situation from behind the general and his lackies. In front of them stood a large spherical building half-beneath ground with a sleek shine to it. One of the disaster Shelter's for city-5.


"I didn't hear em' did you boys?" The demon's lackies shouted "NO!" mischievously. "If you ask me that's pretty rude don't you think? I think rudeness ought' to be punished. If they don't want to come and say hi, maybe we should go to them and say hi!" It was a loaded scenario, Sarutobi knew. The demon was shouting for them to come out from their hiding place so he could kill them. Of course, they wouldn't so he would just use it as an excuse to breakdown the building and kill them. Not that they even needed an excuse. 'So he's playing with his food hmm?' Sarutobi began to think. 'But come to think of it, why is it aliens and demons always seem to speak our language? It just makes no-'


"THAT'S IT! Lets go get em!" Roared the fat demon.


'-Crap!'.


Panicked shouts of alarm and terror could be heard from within the disaster shelter. The demons were practically licking their lips during their charge at the building.


"OI!" Said a voice crying out from behind the charge. Suddenly all the demons paused mid-run. The demon general had a confused and incredulous look about his face. Intrigued he held a hand up, calling all his troops to a halt before spinning on one foot to see who dared shout at him. Great general of Demon Prince Kyon's army. "Yeaaa' I'm talkin to you, chubster!" Said Chimp-Man pointing right at the general.


"You dare address me, Puddin' great maiden of Prince Kyon's army in such a way?!"


"Oh **** you're a woman?!"


By now all the jaws of the demons had dropped. The great general Puddin was speechless.


"More like 'Mrs too much Puddin' ya know what I'm saying?" Finished Sarutobi laughing nervously. By now the demons had all but forgot the demon shelter as all their attention was focused like a hot, focused laser, straight at Chimp-Man. 'Okaaay. Good news and bad news. Good news: The plan worked. Bad news:... The plan worked.' Thought Sarutobi looking back at general Puddin. Her eyes now a reflection of a raging inferno.


An eerie quiet took place in the street. Pure silence aside from Sarutobi gulping. The demon must've been a tiger-level threat by herself. He had no chance. Puddin' made her slow walk towards the Chimp-Man. Her lackies stayed rooted where they stood, watching wide-eyed. Somehow that made Sarutobi even more scared. Demon fingers flexed revealing the large, sharp claws in place of finger nails.


Time to fight. Sarutobi would make the first move. Sprinting as fast as he could, he ran jumped and punched Puddin square in the nose. It worked. Except Puddin wasn't moved. Not even an inch. Sarutobi's fist slid pathetically off of her face and there she stood just looking down over him like a severely annoyed tower. For a moment there was no movement, nothing. Then Chimp-Man took a front-kick to the chest which sent him flying across the street, straight into a car. Almost through it, creating a Chimp-Man sized dent in the car door. Sarutobi was physically stuck. Then three chunky, green arms lifted him by his throat. No- not three. He was just seeing triple. 'Great.' Then Puddin flung him across the street into a street-light, making the whole light bend in half and collapse. If not for his slightly enhanced durability, that might've broke his back. The next few moments were a blur. Sarutobi's vision blackening out as he was ragdolled around. Onlookers from within the disaster shelter looked on scared, their hopes of saving, destroyed.


"Stupid Monkey." Roared Puddin, kicking Chimp-Man across the side-walk.


"You think you've achieved anything?!" Another kick sent Sarutobi howling in pain as he lay flat on his back, legs and arms spread out. "You could never hope to beat me. You spared these puny humans another minute of life but only delayed them the inevitable. It's- it's... stupid, foolish and naive."


"M-maybe. Maybe it is." Sarutobi allowed, with a smile of content.

"But that's what a hero is!"

Puddin just looked down at the Monkey-Man wide-eyed, amazed he would even dare- even be able to speak up. "Goodbye stupid monkey." She said, raising one of her scaly, stumpy legs to stomp on him for the last time. Chimp-Man closed his eyes. Accepting his end-


-His eyes shot open. Wide. Alert. Inhuman. Now glowing a shining emerald green.


A thunderous boom burst through the whole street. One minute Puddin was there. The next she was sent smashing through 10 city blocks, the sound of glash windows shattering with every building she hit, each smash being quieter and quieter until it was off into the distance. Then silence once more. Sarutobi's eyes reverted back to their regular brown shade and he suddenly came back, finding himself staring at his leg raised 90 degrees above him, stained with green demon blood. Blinking at the site he looked left and right. "The hell just happened?"


Two demons looked at each other. Then they ran for their lives, screaming as they did. The rest of the entire platoon followed immediately after. They didn't need to check Puddin's remains (Or lack of - save a puddle of blood and an eyeball) to know she was a goner.


The people within the shelter erupted with applause and cheers. Sarutobi was still staring at his blood-stained foot. "THE HELL?!"

  Nagoya had little time to take his eyes off Kyon, but he was aware of Crunch's position and Leo's readiness. However, he couldn't look away for too long as he dodged another fist coming for him and leaped off the arm that was used for the offensive attack. He leaped past the demon and spun around. As he did, he caught a glimpse of something.
  
  
  With the plasma covering his body, his brain had begun to work faster. In the current moment, he was able to see something that normally could have been missed. Looking at the back of his head, a seal appeared on the lower part of the head and upper neck. It looked like it was scarred there, but nonetheless it was there.
  
  
  What's that doing there? He wondered. Then, as if his fast working brain stopped, the speed of Kyon's fist hit his side as he desperately tried to block it, feeling the snapping of one of his bones and two ribs. "Tsk!"
  
  
  He turned around and give the message of his findings. "The back of his head. A seal. Hit the seal!" Just then, the sound of the demon behind him grabbed his attention. He began to move to avoid a possible attack, but it only saved him by so much. The rearing pain of Kyon's talons digging deep and ripping flesh from his side with the hand then being sent back and back handing the hero off into the distance. Now unconscious.
  
  
  "Little whelp. I see his figured it out." The demon muttered to himself.
  
  
  Gluttony appeared behind Crunch with food in his mouth. "Ready?" He asked. On the given command, he'd use his strength to throw Crunch, and then if he could, Leo.

Daniel would notify the Heroes Association of his arrival to City 5. Driving his motorcycle down the street, he would begin to shoot any demons he saw, taking down several dozen as he traveled. He would see someone flying through the air, and wouldturn the bike around, and proceed toward where he saw the man had been thrown

Demon King Leo smiled at Gluttony, "I've been ready." Demon King Leo had been still continuously building up electricity. His eyes were glowing with a bright blue glow, and his body was rocking with electricity. Demon King Leo smiled, and his mouth opened slightly, letting some electricity drip out of his mouth, and run down the length of his body. It was clear he was getting close to unloading.

Back In The Control Room

Captain Leo looked around at the control room, Something seems different... Finally he noticed it. The control room was on fire. He nodded, Yeah... this makes sense. Given the amount of electricity I absorbed. He looked side to side at the two Leo's who had been caught in the fire. He sighed, This body can't handle this much electricity.

Planeshifter stopped advancing, and immediately took cover. His original plan to distract the Demon had been foiled. Kyon had powered up and destruction was flying everywhere. He needed a new plan. Fortunately.. Planeshifter believed his special suit was strategy. He took a deep breath, turned Ethereal, and floated over to the nearest intact building. He was looking for something sharp, like a knife or an axe. If he couldnt find something like that he'd.. do something drastic. Eventually, he did find a pretty big knife. He gripped it like a murderer, staring at his reflection in the blade. This was the kind of knife a serial killer might have used in a budget horror movie. The thought of it made Planeshifter shudder. Now gripping the knife with a newfound intent to kill, Planeshifter ran for the window, leapt out of it, knife in hand... and then he vanished.


Or so it seemed. He had turned Ethereal and invisible to the world, but his spiritual form flew into the knife he took. It was now a possessed knife. Planeshifter knew that he could move and float with more agility and grace when possessing an object of sorts. It was like that one monster out of a Tabletop game; which was a possessed weapon, that floated, parried and struck with the confidence of an undefeated warrior. That was what he felt like now; particularly as something as small as a knife. This floating knife, it flew right for the nape of Kyon's neck at breakneck velocity. Planeshifter thought to himself.. the rate of speed he achieved, no hide could surely resist it, could it? It was just physics, and maybe gravity. Planeshifter braced himself as his knifely form drew closer to stabbing Kyon. Would it work? Would the demon even notice his new attacker?

She nodded at his last comment. They kept running until they eventually came across a large crowd of people with tap blocking them on both of their sides. Barney and Gia came from the side of a building to the police tap seeing a mass of humans being herded out of the city. Glowing batons in the hands of officers as they flagged the civilians out. The cars had no flashing lights on in order to keep them more covert from any other demons.


"We found them, Barney." She watched them. In the crowd, she took notice of one hero who was also a low class C, who she knew simply was aware he could offer nothing. Stretchers and body bags lay across the sides of the roads. Some holding heroes who fell in combat while the other heroes lay with civilians getting medical treatment.


Deep in her mind, she feared something targeting the mass of civilians. If they wanted to kill them, this was the perfect moment. She could offer his power to heal minor wounds, but that was it. That was when she made her way to the medical site where a large man knelt down, clad in heavy armor had a bright light that could be seen even from behind him, covered by his torso. She couldn't tell who it was. What she could tell was this person was with an injured victim. A young man, likely in his 20's and in a tattered business suit.


Suddenly, there was a loud screeching that drowned out all the mumbles and cried of infants and chatter by those walking. Even the sound of their movement stopped as the entire city went silent save for the otherworldly screech. "Did you hear that Barney?"

  With the plasma hero now taken care of, Kyon laughed at the action the hero tried and yet failed. He turned his attention to the hero who was hosting his former body, now charging lightning. This was interesting. He had never seen someone use their power like this before. Dead or alive, he was taking enjoyment in watching what he could do. However, he would simply die like the others. In the center of his horns grew a ball of energy, ready to fire and threatening to kill Leo. "It was fun, human. But your tim--" Just then a sharp pain struck the back of his neck. He knew where it hit, and it didn't completely hit his seal, but the pain was very noticeable. "Ahhh!" He swung his arms around to hit whoever was there with all his rage and strength, which would feel like the wind of a hurricane. The dagger. The sharp pain of the small object remained in his neck as he desperately attempted to get it out. The fear settling in of his seal completely breaking. Already he could feel the effects of his energy slipping away. "No... No, not yet!" For his spirit, the seal was like the dam that held the water in. And now that dam had a crack.
  
  
  Gluttony appeared by Leo and grabbed him. The shock was something he wasn't immune against, but he held in the pain as long as he could as he used the kinetic energy to throw Leo at the demon in the sky like a bullet from a gun. The windows of the building near by shattered from the force of the throw, breaking the sound barrier. It's on you now, Leo." He said as he walked over to Crunch, ready in case he needed to be thrown also. If ever there was a moment when Kyon was fully distracted, now was that chance. Even as back up came. Things looked to be in favor of the Heroes now.

Earl modes his head, knowing the demon king was weakening."Let's finish him off!" He shouted, feeling energized. He was planning on hitting Kyon with his special move, in his weakened state, it would render him. He looked down at his claws, which were still razor sharp with a few cracks, but it would suffice. He was ready to get rid of this ego maniac bastard, the dude was starting to get annoying.

Barney followed Gai to the civilians, he looked around at the bags. "W-What happened here," he whispered to himself as he began to shake. How powerful was this threat? If so many people had died already, could he be next? He didn't have time to think as he heard the loud screech and covered his ears. It hurt him a lot as he let out a piercing scream "WHAT WAS THAT!?!?" He turned a paler blue as he looked around for a source of this screech.

Demon King Leo was thrown through the air. As he flew a lightning bolt, no, FIVE lightning bolts followed in his wake. He shot through the air, arms extended. With the Demon Lord turned around, he was able to get a perfect shot at the back of the Demon Lord's neck. Demon King Leo finally impacted the back of the Demon Lord's neck. With the force he had gathered, he dug into the Demon Lord's neck. He managed to get a few feet into his neck.


Then, the electricity expanded out. Demon King Leo exploded in a burst of electricity so large, it covered the entire city in an electric cloud. Demon King Leo felt his body being ripped apart by all the electricity, but he continued to force more and more electricity into the Demon Lord's body. After a few seconds, Leo really did explode. All the electricity rushed out of him and into the seal. The electric burst would be able to be seen from space with how large it was. A large smoke cloud covered the city, making it perfect for a dramatic reveal.

Daniel had been driving up when an electric surge went through the entire city, causing his motorcycle to crash, and would send Daniel flying. After a solid five seconds of airtime, face met asphalt. He would skip along the road several times, finally rolling to a stop in front of Earl and Gluttony. Looking up at them, completely unharmed, he would say, "Ouch." After a moment, he would get up and brush some of the dust off, and straighten his hair a bit. "Well, that wasn't the kind of entrance I had been attempting. Oh well,"

Planeshifter expressed surprise that his knife attacked actually worked. He, a C Class hero, had injured the demon? Goodness gracious.. the pride swelled in his head. Deciding to press his luck, the possessed knife twisted and thrashed deeper into Kyon's wound for about three seconds more, before Planeshifter removed his presence from the knife, and floating over to the other Heroes. His ethereal mass settled upon the ground, before his body rematerialized, his posture concealing, and his eyes dead set on Kyon.


"Come now.. You act like this is your first stabbing." he told him off, deadpan.


"Or.. were you not expecting your attacker to be a g-g-g-g-g-ghoooost?"


He raised his hand, trying to alert the other heroes. He never took his eyes off of Kyon. The moment Planeshifter saw or sensed him move, he would vanish again. The words that would leave his mouth, unless he were stopped, would go as follows:


"Pay attention. I believe I have unearthed his weakness! It must be blades! Find something to slash or pierce him with if you can!"


Planeshifter didnt actually know if this assumption was true or not, but he at least thought his opinion might help. His case certainly didnt help considering he was late to the battle.

The boy walked up to the bridge alone. His expression was of stone, but his hands were shaking as he held the pistol. When the demons surrounded him, he pointed and pistol at one of them and smiled nervously. His teeth chattered. "Well, well, well, look what we have here," one of the demons said. "Someone's trying to play hero. Is that a toy gun you got there?"


The boy didn't answer. He aimed at the air and pulled the trigger. Nothing left the barrel. "You knew this was a bad idea, Arnold. What's taking him so long?" he thought to himself. A kid like him couldn't go toe to toe with demons that were able to give heroes a hard time. What made the Suited Savior think that a kid could possibly help with anything? The boy fumbled the pistol in his hands and cringed as it dropped to the ground. The situation was hopeless enough without him messing anything else up. The demons laughed at him. And then one of their heads exploded.


The laughter fell dead. The demons looked at each other with shocked expressions. Arnold pulled the trigger several more times. For each time he did, a demon's head exploded seconds later. "This little shit's some kind of hero!" a demon said. "What the hell kind of power is that?" Arnold went trigger happy with the pistol, pointing at the demons like a madman. "Kill the little sh-" Headshot.


Suddenly Arnold could hear the theme to Mass Effect playing and he realized it was his phone ringing. He tossed the gun. "Fire in the hole!" Arnold said, and the demons jumped back, expecting an explosion. But the only thing that came was the patter of Arnold's feet as he fled. He went around the corner as two demons chased him. The demons were thrown back into their group. A persistent beeping sound came from one of the demons. "Fire in the hole." A deep voice shouted.


A firery explosion swept the demons into the realm of incineration. Those that survived charged at Crash, who now guarded Arnold with his rifle. "Put these on," Crash said, handing Arnold a pair of sunglasses while simultaneously firing a grenade from his wrist.


"I can't see anything." Arnold said.


"That's the point," Crash replied, and there was the sound of moans coming from the demons. They were thrown into chaos. Some lay on the ground, holding their eyes. Some were crashing into buildings from the loss of sight. Some just lashed out and were unknowingly attacking each other. "You did good, kid. Should be pretty easy to-" Crash sighed.


"What?" Arnold asked. Before he could remove his glasses, Crash swept the boy into a protective hug, and a cloud of electricity blasted through the city. When it was over, Crash realized that he had been moved not far from where he stood.


"Are you alright?" He asked Arnold. With a nod of confirmation, Arnold looked around. The demons were thrown in random places. Now all Crash needed to do was clean up. He got to work.

  This was something not even she could answer. The death all around sent shivers down her spine. This wasn't what she thought being a hero was about. Something this bad in the thick of it. That's when she turned to the source of the loud screech with Barney.
  
  
  There with its legs on the buildings on each side of the large street stood a large create, like a giant insect, eyeing the humans like supplements ready to be eaten. Its body was as long as four buses and round with gigantic wings on the back. A long beak on the upper part of the mouth extended out like a large sword that covered the large, menacing and deadly teeth of the mouth, which had no lips or gums around it, just connected to the bony skin.
  
  
  The remaining flying demons could be seeing flying into it and merging, forming the leviathan. He didn't seem to have any eyes as its head scanned. It likely was using some other form of sensory ability to find them. With the sudden cry is made that caused the masses to go silent, it seemed to make the monster think twice if its pray was here.
  
  
  "Barney..." Gia began as she took a step back.
  
  
  "Be quite." The large man Gia had seen kneeling by one of the patients. Was he a medic? "If you don't make any noise, it wont know we're here." He assured.
  
  
  The pacifier belonging to the infant in the arms of a young distressed mother had fallen out and the sound of it hitting the concrete and rolling before coming to a stop was all that could be heard, other than the breathing of the demonic leviathan. That's when it happened. The crying from the baby began to erupt, longing for its mouth toy. The large demon turned its head directly to the baby as it screeched in retaliation, drowning out the baby with its deafening voice. Its wings shot out and flexed wide, casting a dark shadow over the denizens.
  
  
  Gia's body began to glow as did her fists as she turned the road below her into a sand pile, twisting and churning. It was very small, about 10 gallons worth, but it was all she could do. Her eyes wide and body shaking. She was no match for this creature. She was one of the lowest of the heroes.

• Fall of Kyon

  The knife twisted in his neck, cutting on half of the seal as the unknown figure finally left and materialized on the ground. Kyon was too busy trying to not allow the seal to break. Then another attack hit him. "You!" He angrily said looking at Leo in his old body as Leo dug into his seal. The energy ball at the center of his horns fired off into a large pink and bright beam into the sky, cutting a hole in the clouds and into space.
  
  
  "Now!" Gluttony bellowed as he grabbed Crunch and chucked him just as hard as he did with Leo, but being lighter it was far stronger as he flew fast light lightning. The sky blinding due to Leo's attack. This would utterly remove Kyon's head from his body. His eyes searching for his body. The seal not cut in half as Leo's electric attack began to do its work on the body, disintegrating into nothing.
  
  
  No matter, Crunch might have severed the seal, but half of it remained on his head, so maybe he could form wings and fly, returning home. But now, the attack had leaked into his entire seal as the mark began to fade and the body losing all life.
  
  
  All that would remain from the unison attack would be the pieces of Kyon's head falling to the ground like a rock, lifeless, and as hard as a statue before turning to ash. Before it faded completely, a warning was let out. "The bell has been rung..."
  
  
  The sky clear of the bright light and be left with only clouds forming as rain began to fall fast onto the city. Silence was the gift for winning the battle. Gluttony didn't forget Daniel who was there. "Wonderful entrance, by the way. Though at least you're unharmed. You missed the fight. But I can tell your work has shown in other parts of the city. The rain... it's fitting for what happened. Since you just got here, Daniel, tell me, how's the rest of the city look?" Gluttony's face was of a concerning parent. After the city took a big hit, he feared their intervention didn't save as many lives as they could have.
  
  
  Soon a phone would break the silence, ringing. The phone was by Crunch's feet with the light of the screen having a simple reading: Hero Association.

Barney stood and watch the giant beast frozen to the pavement. He then heard the baby which triggered the monster "Oh god. W-W-What d-do-o w-we do?" He soon loosened and stared at the demon, his hands waving on his side. He then thought what he might have to do. He gulped 'What am I going to do!? I've never taken on something like this! Cats maybe but nothing like this!' He drowned out his thoughts of fear and looked back at Gai, inching in front of her in case it came after her.

"Do... Do you have anything that could stop that, Barney?" Just like that, the monster bellowed once more as Gia threw the sand at its face. Just as she though... it did nothing. She didn't think he even felt it.


The authorities of the Hero Association who were hording the civilians began to rush them out as they fired off artillery shells at the monster, which seemed to do little damage other than anger further. It began to move, legs crushing the buildings it walked on as its body hovered over the street.


Everyone ran, other than the people who were injured. The only medic who remained was the one who's body was covered in rags and wearing a large suit of armor, who continued to heal those near by, giving them little strength to move and grasp at a future outside of the city.


"Do not let its size scare you" the voice assured once more. "It may be hard to accept, but if you don't think you can handle it, just let me know, young ones. The Light shall protect you."

Earl looked up proudly at Kyon's disintegrated body, they had finally done it. He patted dust off himself, before noticing a phone by his feet. There was a call from the Hero's Association."What do they want now?" He sighed, answering the phone."This is crunch, hero of city 5, what can I do for you?" He replied in his southern accent, with a hint of sarcasm.

Barney gulped as he just was frozen at the sight of the creature, he yelped when Gai threw the sand. Barney took a deep breath and tried to do something. "Well.....I have this," he clamped his palms together and aimed it at the demons side before a small blast of energy shot out. It slammed Barney into a wall, the only thing keeping him from flying around.


The problem with his powers were that they fluctuated from being at his fullest or weakest. This meant that this blast could be powerful or weak, it was a 50/50 chance. "Can't everyone do that?"

Gia was shocked at the blast Barney sent as it flew at the demons side, who screamed in pain. It left a small hole, but the creature still stood. It looked at Barney as he charged moving fast. Its wings flapped as he lifted its large body in the air and dragged one of its legs on the ground to grab Barney and crush his body.


"Move!" The voice said as a large man tackled the two out of the way. His seven foot tall body in heavy armor and a tattered cloth on his head for cover. The leg of the demon swooshed right passed them. The figure stood up as he looked to Barney. "Looks like your powers are not yet stabilized." The voice said calmly and with enthusiasm. He slapped his hand on the back of the alien. "You look funny, but you have great potential, little Emerald Eye!" As he placed his hand on Barney's back, a bright light emitted from the large man's hand which would fuel Barney's energy, stabilizing them for a short time. "Try once more. This time aim for the legs."

Barney was a little shocked that he was able to do damage to the giant winged creature. His cheeks turned a darker blue at what the large man in armor said. "T-Thank you!" Barney grew some confidence and dug his feet into the ground, he aimed his hands at the creatures legs and fired. He went from the left legs to the right, a small smile grew on his face. He was feeling something new, he felt like he was doing something to help. He was feeling like an actual hero!

The attack by Barney did the magic as the legs snapped and blew away. The creature falling, but towards the people. He did the same to Gia and ordered her to build pillars. She did as she was told and focused the suddenly rush of energy to make pillars of obsidian to hold the body and prevent it from hitting the people. The monster screamed in pain. Now, without its legs, it only had wings to move. Which it was already on to doing.


"Now... Hit his head and wings, little alien boy!" He shouted as he walked out to the street.


He waited for the kid to do his work as the tall man removed the ruined cloth from his head, revealing short brown hair and facial hair. The man was clad in bright bronze armor. A large sword on his back. "I'm counting on you kid."

Barney decided to try something he had never done before, he pointed one hand at the creatures head and the other at his wings. "Fire!" He yelled shooting at the creatures head and the other shot at the wings. "Ugh! It hurts," he mumbled to himself as he got onto on knee. When he finished the blast his hands well to his side, his breathing became heavy.
