An Odd OfferThe smell of dust fills your nose as you walk into the room. By whatever means, you were sent here for an "evaluation" by a group calling themselves "Restituere". Walking further you hear the crunch of paper scattered throughout the floor. A young woman attempting to clean the mess quickly stands up. Reaching her bag, she grabs a pair of gloves and a mask before approaching you.
Giving an awkward smile through her mask she speaks to you, "Good afternoon. I apologize for the mess, we just moved here. My name is Dr. May. I'll be examining you, it won't take long." she says still keeping the distance between you. She stretches her arm out for a handshake before instructing you to sit down. "You seem to be clear," she says rolling back your sleeves after checking your arms. Reaching into her bag again she hands you a paper envelope. Emptying its contents you find a thin paper letter.
Looking at you she gives another smile before talking, "You'll have to read and fill this out for us. You're lucky only a few ever get this opportunity." she says. The letter appears to be an offer to go to a place called "Caster's Island". It is some type of program where only a few "selected" members go. You are puzzled why you've been selected but considering your prospects it may be a wise move. Before making a decision you read it again taking note of every detail.
A new hope for humanity arises!
Due to your unique skills and character, you have been selected by Restituere. You are offered to participate in a new program to restore the state of humanity. It is a great honor and privilege to be able to join. Members of this project will receive medical care, food, water, and access to our facilities. All we ask in return is for you to assist us with your talent. If you accept this offer you will be sent to Caster's Island, an offshore area not far from the coast. You will also need to fill our application. So what will you decide? Returning to your homeland to fend for yourself, or a chance to make a real change in the world? Only you can decide.
Accept ( ) Decline ( )
Corpses litter the streets, this week we burned more than 2,000 bodies. A report from a government soldier sent to a quarantine zone.
During the years of 2020-2022AD, the world plunged into chaos after what once thought of a minor illness, escalated into a pandemic. Due to the prevalence of the disease is usually referred as "the plague" although an official name was never given. It is estimated that 90-95% of the world's population died. Many countries were placed into complete anarchy from uprisings, population decline, and mass hysteria. As they fell, society regressed into a series of bands formed to provide mutual protection against raiders. Vast areas of land have been emptied after the collapse with the occasional corpse rotting on the field.
It is still unknown what caused the plague, but the progression of the disease has been well-documented. A rash usually appears on the left hand, after a few days it begins to spread throughout the arm and into the body. The victim develops weakness in the infected regions until they eventually die. As they die, they are left with intense pain from the affected regions. The entire process varies with some cases lasting weeks. They are highly contagious even in the early stages of the disease, so they are immediately quarantined.
Fear of the plague has also sentenced many to death, anyone with a rash on their left hand may be forced into a quarantine camp, exposing them to infection. Amputation has been tried to prevent further spread with mixed results in some cases succeeding, with others cutting off their hand only to see the spread continue. Despite numerous attempts, scientists have been unable to find an effective treatment. The only thing they can do is numb the pain with opioids, leading them to become more valuable than food or water in quarantine zones.
Post-Collaspe (2020-2075AD)
A new hope for humanity shines, with the foundation of Restituere. A broadcast aimed at attracting refugees.
Years after the events of the collapse nearly all nations have dissolved. A few military bases remain across the world, occasionally taking in refugees. Outside of them, gangs, robbers, and deserters roam freely, fighting over the remaining resources. Civilians have formed small communities along with a local militia to protect themselves. Dozens of these communities are scattered throughout the countryside with few daring to travel outside. Those who do rarely come back.
The plague has also impacted society in other ways with most telecommunications destroyed from the collapse. Only a few government bases have this luxury. Now long-distance communication can take weeks or even months to reach others, further isolating the communities. The breakdown of society has also lead to economic collapse, with currency becoming useless. Food, clothing, and medicine have replaced it along with the occasional cigarette being gambled.
Seeing the current state of humanity, the few remnants of the military have formed a new organization called "Restituere" which aims to "establish order". During the years, there has been a significant increase in military activity, with some areas being patrolled allowing travel and trade. Survivors found during the patrols are checked and placed into refugee camps or given the option to remain within their communities, under strict supervision. Civilians have complained about the harsh treatment and taxes in the form of food and medicine rations, but appreciate the protection and stability offered.
The true intentions of the organization are unknown, but with each day the organization expands slowly gaining more territory. There are other factions also forming their own armies and nations each with their own goal.
LocationThe events of this roleplay take place during the year of 2076AD in the eastern part of the United States. Your character may be of any background though, possibly migrating for whatever reason. The land is divided into numerous factions which are explained in detail in the next tab. Below is a map marking the territories the factions hold. Caster's Island specifically, is located near the shore of Maryland.
Blue - Restituere
Purple - Cult of the Left-Cross
Green - Raiders of the East
Red - Deepwater
Yellow - The Golden Coast
Sky blue - The Farmer's Band
The Six Nations of the Known World
Cult of the Left-CrossA group of religious fanatics formed in the year of 2021AD during the height of the plague. Its ranks have enjoyed steady growth now totaling over 120,000 members (although only a fraction can be counted as reliable soldiers.) This is due to the "protection & stability" the group offers to its members, much like Restituere. The Cult's activities are mostly unknown although their official doctrine speaks of peace and prayers to end the plague. Their core belief is that the plague was sent to test the will of humanity and only rigorous prayers can end it. However, there have been rumors of human sacrifice, blood rituals, and other grisly events perpetrated by the group. Their emblem is a left hand with three crosses to ward off the plague and an all seeing eye, representing God's judgment of humanity.
Motto: "The hand of God reigns over all."
RestituereThe main group of the roleplay, Restituere boasts formidable military power. Its expansions have earned many resources and new recruits to support their army, since its foundation in 2050AD. It is estimated to have 40,000 trained soldiers and an additional 20,000 recruits. Like the Cult of the Left-cross, the true intentions of the organization are unknown although they seem to be a mostly benevolent force. Their emblem is a red eagle cast in a black background, representing the last fire of humanity in a dark and dangerous world.
Motto: "Rise from the ashes."
The Golden CoastBeing a collation of merchants formed in 2040AD, it lacks the military power of most factions only able to raise 20,000 soldiers and guards. However, The Golden Coast makes up for this from its control of key trading areas. Food, medicine, water, clothing, and even luxuries like jewelry and fine fabrics can be found here. It is the closest to a functional economy in this world, even issuing a type of currency in the form of credits. It is mostly unaligned cooperating with other factions in exchange for a payment. Their emblem is a four-pointed golden cross representing its wealth across a fertile green field.
Motto: "All men can be bought."
Raiders of the EastPerhaps one of the most hostile of the factions, The Raiders of the East practice a militaristic culture sustaining themselves on whatever they steal. They are widely known for this act and despised by most, often fighting against Restituere for control. It is formed by five gangs in the year of 2037AD, all loosely working together to help bolster their strength. A frequent target is the Farmer's Band since they provide most of the agriculture goods. It is estimated that the Raiders have 30,000 soldiers although each gang holds its own private force. Their emblem is a blue flag with five swords representing each gang that forms the faction.
Motto: "We take what is ours."
The Farmer's Band
Motto: "Toil & Soil."
Fiercely nationalistic, The Farm's Band is often hostile towards outsiders only interacting with them to sell them crops. Its Motto perfectly represents its way of life with agriculture being the main focus of the faction. Few dare to travel outside the territories with the exception of the merchants who ferry goods. It boasts a small military of 10,000 soldiers with most used to defend against the Raiders of the East which explains some of their distrust towards outsiders. It was formed in the year of 2030AD making it one of the older factions. It consists of a loose confederation of villages and communities. Their emblem is a lily in a blue background representing the water which gives their crops life.
Deepwater
Motto: "The world is our ocean."
Boasting a powerful navy, Deepwater is a major threat to the Cult of the Left-Cross. It is also an important but shaky ally of the Golden Coast which depends on its ships for protection in exchange for large shipments of goods. Like the Raiders of the East, it often attacks other factions for resources and food. In addition to its naval raids, it has also explored several regions including Central and Southern America. It was founded during the year of 2055AD and has a land army of 10,000 raiders along with its fleet of 200 ships. Its Emblem is an anchor representing the naval life of its inhabitants.
Rules
1. Any romance is heavily discouraged, there are many, many romance roleplays for those who enjoy it. Characters can have close relationships but they must be platonic.
2. Since this is a detailed roleplay, post length must be between three to five paragraphs or more. I understand that writing long posts can be time-consuming but they provide the detail I am looking for. Grammar and spelling must be adequate as well, but I'm not that strict since I make mistakes as well. :p
3. Post at a reasonable time which may be three to five days at most. If you can't post for whatever reason tell me so I can plan around this.
4. Any character sheet that is submitted has to be approved before one can roleplay. Also on your character sheet write "Chomi" as a spoiler somewhere, so I know you have read the rules.
5. Follow RPN's rules.
CreditsAll of the amazing artwork (I stole) is done by Mocha. Their Pixiv page is here feel free to send any support if you enjoy the artwork. For the national flags, the Cult of the Left-Cross was made by me with the others flags pulled from Google Images. You can find them by looking up "Fictional Flags."
