- He has a very gruff and no-nonsense demeanor, doesn’t talk much, and usually blows off people. He can also be very obstinate and uncooperative when he sets his mind to something. While he doesn't view others as beneath him, he doesn't really like strangers and is usually mistrusting of them. When it comes to those he trusts, however, that rough exterior partially melts, revealing a more caring and gentle personality, one that's more than willing to listen. He won’t actively give you directions, but he’ll to sit down with you as you gush out all your fears and problems, and if you ask, he'll give you some advice. While he still doesn't talk much, when it comes to people he’s really close to, he reveals a completely different facet of his personality. He becomes far more witty and mirthful, cracking the occasional joke or exploring the deepness of spirituality. During this time, the words flow out of his mouth freely and openly, unafraid of the perspectives of others.
- His mother and father were both wandering Drakkar. The two of them were traveling with his egg in the northern forest of the Darkvale Mountains when the duo were met with a fatal accident, leaving Carn’s egg behind. The following day, Allisa, a farmer’s young daughter, was wandering the forest when she found the egg. Excited, she brought the egg home, keeping it a secret from her parents, but it didn’t take too long for her parents to find out. Despite their efforts, however, the parents found they couldn’t give away the egg, and so they allowed Allisa to keep the egg on the principle that she had to take care of the baby. When Carn finally hatched, she showered the Drakkar with love but also disciplined him like one of the farm’s puppies (much to Carn’s chagrin later in life). Of course, she did get help from her mother, but out of everyone in the family, Allisa was ultimately the one who took care of Carn. While the family tried their best to keep Carn’s existence a secret, it was only a few years later that someone found out and spread the gossip across the village like wildfire. As a result, the family fell under scrutiny. If it weren’t for Allisa’s steadfastness, her parents would have disowned Carn.
As Carn grew up in the human household, he was given a variety of small tasks and chores that were appropriate for a toddler. While he didn’t always comply with his grandparents, he always listened to Allisa, happily doing his work alongside hers. In addition to doing chores, Carn was conducted deeply into Creationism. Though Allisa was considered a wild girl by the village, everyone knew that she had a huge heart for the Maker. She never neglected to tell Carn the old legends and stories of the Maker and teaching him how to read the scriptures she loved so much. This love instilled in Carn is the main reason why Carn is rooted deeply into Creationism. When Carn grew strong enough, he began working in the fields with Grandpa. While initially he hated the work and refused to help, with Allisa’s gentle encouragement, he began working on the farm and the plow, eventually out-pacing Grandpa in everything. It was also during this time that his Grandfather took him hunting. The hunting community didn’t exactly accept the young Drakkar, but they eventually got used to having Carn tag along in the hunts. While he wasn’t initially the best shot, his appetite (mainly his embarrassment) drove him to become one of the best shots in the community.
The village that Carn lived in was entirely made up of humans. Aside from the Carn’s family and the resident laymen and deacons, his presence was shunned by everyone. Even the children of the village harassed him whenever he went out without Alissa. This ridicule caused him to shy away from the non-religious community and humans in general. He would have become a complete hermit if it wasn’t for his two best friends, Aðalsteinn and Merida, though they weren’t human. Aðalsteinn was a dwarven boy from a small but nearby dwarven village somewhere on Darkvale mountains. Merida, on the other hand, was a Shadow Elf, living in an extended family deep inside the forest. Whenever they had spare time, they would always meet somewhere off in the forest, pretending to be warriors, magicians, and snipers. Later in life, the trio remained very close friends, much to everyone’s annoyance. (On occasion, Allisa would tag along to supervise the trio while providing delicious snacks)
When Carn finally became an adult, he out-produced every single family in the village. Because of this production, the family was able to live very securely every year and was even able to sell their surpluses for a steady profit. Whenever a year was struck with bad crops, the family always had enough food for themselves. The family never really gave anything away to other families, but they always gave gifts to Aðalsteinn and Merida for taking care of Carn.
Years passed, Allisa got married and had children, Aðalsteinn and Merida married their respective races, and Carn was still a powerhouse when it came to farming and hunting. Several months before the attack of the Sorceress, Allisa called Carn over for a special talk. She wanted him to go exploring and to help those who were in need. This request caught Carn off guard. While he refused profusely, Allisa’s stubborn insistence eventually won over, prompting Carn to pack up and head out to the wider world. When news spread to everyone close to Carn, the news was not well received. The grandparents were dismayed over losing their farmhand, the children were sad their kind, big brother was going away, and his friends were shocked (and slightly jealous) that Carn was leaving for the wider world. However, despite all the shock, Carn went through with the request, heading out for the larger world when he was thirty-two years old.
His travels lasted several months, starting in Dunn and ending in Alicante. During his travels, he helped a great many people due to his mother’s request. Despite not liking it initially, he grew fond of receiving the act of helping others. Though, what he loved most about helping was the thanks and the smiles he received, even though most of those smiles came from humans. In addition, he grew increasingly affiliated with the creationist priests. While initially he didn’t desire to talk to them, his background in Creationism made it easier to talk and communicate with them. Similarly, the creationist priests weren’t too fond of talking with the Drakkar, but upon talking more and more with Carn, the priests would always open up to him, one because he had a surprisingly deep knowledge of Creationism and two because he was a curiosity since he was a Drakkar. At the end of the journey, he found that nearly all his information came directly from the priests. Alicante wasn’t supposed to be the last destination. To Carn, it was just another place to visit, recommended to him by a friendly priest he encountered on the way. To make a long story short, he liked Alicanted despite the fact that the humans usually created a 4 foot clearing around him. Surprisingly, he didn’t really like the Drakkar section of the city. He found the Drakkar just as obstinate and disagreeable as the Drakkar in Daskar. As such, he stayed primarily in the Elvish portion of the city (he would have preferred the Dwarven section, but their lodgings were far too small for him.) He stayed for some weeks, quietly leaving Alicante for Eldshaw when news of the demon horde reached the city. He hadn’t been to Alicante since.
While in Eldshaw, he had intended to stay there only a few weeks before leaving (he was entranced by the beauty of the forests). It was nearing the end of his stay when he ran into (quite literally) one of the Resistance members. After helping the member gather up the paperwork, the member couldn’t help but ask if Carn could join the Resistance. Carn refused since he had no connection with the humans outside of his village. She pleaded, spouting all the evils the Sorceress had committed, but Carn still refused. It was only until later, when Carn was alone, that his mother’s words echoed within him, changing his mind. He later found that member and joined the cause before writing a letter to his mother that he would be staying in Eldershaw for quite a while but would be writing back periodically.
When he was sorted into the divisions, Carn was assigned to be a warrior. Though he protested this decision by saying he had more skills in archery over close combat, he was eventually convinced to take up training with the soldier veterans. He didn’t like training. Though, it wasn’t really the training itself but rather the embarrassment. His lack of knowledge in melee combat was impossible to hide from the other, more experienced recruits. Though not a word was spoken during training, outside of training, his shy and quiet nature made Carn an easy target of gossip that often criticized him for not being “warrior-like” as most Drakkar are. The worst bit of slander mocked that he wasn’t a Drakkar but rather a giant lizard that The Resistance had mistakenly accepted. Carn absolutely despised these insults, not only because the insults hurt but also because they reminded him too much of his childhood. He would have left The Resistance, but he didn’t. What kept him going were his instructors, who encouraged him, and the member he first met, who gave him comfort. For those people, he persevered, and finally, after the first few weeks of training, he triumphed over his insecurities, allowing him to enjoy combat. Much of his time, as a result, became absorbed by practicing his form and swings, reading literature on combat, and discussing with his instructors on how to best improve. As a result, Carn finished his core training much faster than the other recruits and began developing, under the guidance of his instructors, his own style that was focused on defense and counters while combining force magic that was taught to him by the instructors. His secure and steadfast style, as well as his stoic and curt persona, garnered him the nickname “The Iron Wall” by many of his colleagues. While he hadn’t attained any positions in the Resistance (nor did he have a strong desire to), Carn found himself more respected in the community. As of now, he's diligently serving the Resistance, efficiently completing any missions given to him. - He’s a towering figure, often standing half-a-head taller than most Drakkar, and his body, while not quite toned, is like thick rope, perfect for heavy-duty farmwork. He doesn’t have any wings but does have horns sticking from the back of his head (he files them slightly so they aren't sharp). Over most of his body, he has deep rustic brown scales from his head, down to his back and to his head. However, from the neck down to his belly and to under his tail, his scales are beige. On missions, he usually wears standard gear, but outside of those, he always wears farmer's overalls, a plaid button-up, and no shoes. Usually, he’s slightly hunched over, making him seem a little bit shorter than he actually is. He only straightens up to his full height when he's angry or serious.
