Realistic or Modern Can't Fight What's Right

She frowned. “I will pay for it dad. Please. Just please.” She begged him, almost in tears. “I can’t help you if I don’t know where you are at.” She told him seriously.

Jasper smiled and kissed her nose, going to take a shower to clear his head a little.

Hector frowned more and sighed heavily when he saw the tears brimming his daughter's eyes "Okay.....fine."

Max sighed happily and went to sit down on the back porch and read a book.

Carmen sighed and nodded, kissing his cheek. “Thank you…. I need to go get Pedro and go get some groceries. We got no food in this house. I’ll bring him over tomorrow. Make some tacos up okay?” She murmured, giving his shoulder a squeeze and made her way out after saying goodbye, making it all the way home to her fiancé before bursting into tears as she walked through the front door.

The next week went by a lot quicker than Jasper had expected so by the time Jon showed up again, he hadn’t had time to tell max to go somewhere else.

Pedro frowned when he heard Carmen come in and quickly rushed over hearing her sobs "Carmen? Oh baby come here." He said softly as he pulled her into him and let her get it all out.

Max was out on their little section of beach running through the water waiting for Jasper to come out. She frowned though when he hadn't come and grabbed her towel heading towards the porch "Jasper! Are you coming?" She called to him in Finnish as she walked through the door

Jon stood in the living room of the house, listening to Jasper making excuses but when he heard the woman's voice he frowned a bit, not able to work out why he found it so familiar until she walked into the room and he stared at her in shock.

She sobbed into his shoulder, holding onto him tightly until she calmed down, still sniffling a little and explained everything to him, "He didn't want to go but I'm making him... I should have come home sooner but he always seemed fine on the phone." She mumbled, wiping at her eyes and looked over at him, "I'm sorry... This is not how I thought we would be starting our move here." She mumbled

Max came in and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the man in their living room "Jasper.....whats going on?" She asked feeling her heart rate quicken as she looked at the man she formerly called the love of her life "You...you didn't say we would have a guest."

Pedro rocked her gently and gave a heavy sigh "Don't apologize Carmen. We'll make sure he is okay alright?" He said softly as he kissed the top of her head "Come on, lets go look into some doctors. I've got part of the study already unpacked."

She frowned and nodded, sniffling a little and just pulled him to her tighter for a minute "I love you." She murmured, kissing him gently, "I'm not sure what I'd do without you." She murmured, heading into the study with him.

Jon stood up "I look forward to speaking with you next Friday Päkkonen." He muttered, clearing his throat and walked out with one of his guys after Jasper agreeing to do some odd jobs here and there in return for only givng up 15% of his profit.

Max frowned glaring at Jon as he left before turning to Jasper "Jasper what was that man doing here?" She asked seriously starting to get worried that her past was coming back for her.

Pedro kissed her back and gave a small nod "I love you too beautiful." He murmured before giving a heavy sigh as he led her to the study. It killed him to see her like this.

He frowned and looked over at her "Huh? Sorry, I didn't realise the second meeting was today... He was just confirming a couple things... He's a business partner." He told her, going up to get changed, not thinking anymore about it.

She spent the whole rest of the day sorting the house out with him and finding a specialist close enough by to go to for her Dad and she was fully calmed down by the evening, slipping her arms around Pedro's shoulders "You getting your stuff ready for the new job?" She asked him while he was working away on his laptop.

Max frowned more when he said he was a business partner and shook her head some "No Jasper why was he here?! Business partner my ass I know a fucking mob captain when I see one."

Pedro helped her with everything he could before he started work on his laptop.be gave her a small nod and smiled a bit "Yeah getting my lesson plan made up." He said softly

She nodded and kissed his cheek. “Mmm I love you…. You want stir fry or spaghetti tonight?” She asked him, ruffling his hair a little and wandered into the kitchen

Jasper frowned shaking his head. “I’ve just got a few jobs to do for them so they can stay looking legit. Everything I’m doing is above board. How do you know that though?” He frowned and glared at her for a moment.

Pedro smiled softly at her and thought things over for a moment "Hmm stir fry sounds good." He murmured before kissing her gently

Max frowned some and sighed heavily "I told you I had a disfunctional and toxic family did I not? Just so happens to be related to a mob...the specific mob that, that man helps run." She explained before shaking her head some "I didn't....I didn't ever think it would mean much, I never thought I'd run into them again....its why I stay away from the New York and Jersey area."

He frowned and watched her. “You know him? So then you’ve been lying to me from the start. You’ve been running from them since I knew you.” He frowned.

“Yes sir. Coming right up.” She called to him and headed out to the kitchen to get started on dinner, leaving Jordan a voice message about what she’d got done that day.

Max took a deep breath and gave a small nod "Yes....he was the man I told you about previously....the man I was with before you." She explained before letting a few tears fall "Jasper how did you get mixed up with them?"

Pedro came in to help her out a little bit later and smiled happily "So when do you want to start on kids? Because I'm happy with trying right after the wedding." He murmured happily

She smiled and leaned back against him, "Let's see where we're at when we get to that point." She murmured, "Cause if it's just stress with everything then I want to wait." She murmured, kissing his cheek.

He frowned and shook his head, "It doesn't matter.... What matters is you're getting pissy with me about not telling you when you've hidden this from me for years." He muttered

Max frowned more at him and sighed heavily "Jasper please, I know these people, I want to know that you are safe." she begged letting a few tears fall "I get that I should have told you sooner but I just want to know that you're safe, that we will be safe."

Pedro gave a small nod and smiled a bit "Well alright then, I can get behind that." he said with a small laugh before kissing her gently "I'm just ready to marry you."

She giggled quietly and kissed his cheek. “So am I babe.” She murmured. They settled into the town fairly quickly and with all of her fathers health issues she was still managing to keep herself sane with her twice a week trips down to the ranch to go help out and catch up with Jordan. The week of her wedding they’d gone on a ride together to clear their heads like they used to when they were teenagers and now they were sat under their favorite tree while the horses grazed. “You sure you’re not bringing a date to the wedding?” She asked him. “Pedges friend pulled out so there’s a spare meal.” She told him.

“Yes. Of course we are safe. When I said it’s just a few transactions. That’s all it is. I just owed them a favour for something my old partner did and it will be covered after this.” He told her frowning.

Jordan sat with Carmen under their favorite tree and chuckled quietly as she brought up him bringing a date. In the few weeks that they had spent seeing one another again his feelings had started to come back tenfold for her. Everything he had suppressed was now fully at the surface and he was finding it hard to hold back. He took a deep breath as she kept pushing and shook his head "Its fine Carmen, really. I don't want a date.." he muttered

Max sighed heavily and gave a small nod before she turned back "I hope you're right.." she said under her breath before she left to the kitchen to get herself something to drink. This all felt very wrong now, Jasper wasn't supposed to be mixed up in any of that stuff. She also knew that if Jon had become anything like his father when it came to business they would never be free of them.

She shook her head. “Always playing mysterious with the ladies. I swear they want you more when they can’t have you. Seriously though there must be someone in town you have your eye on. Cause I know you’re not gay.” She nudged him playfully. “Cause you know I’m ready to be best man.” She teased him

He just shook his head and went upstairs to get some work done instead. The beach day no longer sounding appealing after the argument.

Max sighed heavily as she sat in the kitchen thinking over her past while sipping whine watching the waves from the window. She didn't care the time of day at this moment, she needed some form of alcohol to try and forget seeing Jon's face.

Jordan shook his head chuckling quietly again "There is one woman....most gorgeous one I've ever seen. Just...can't get the nerve to tell her how I feel." He admits before taking a deep breath trying to calm himself

“Alright. Keep your secrets and be broody about it. Don’t wait too long though or she’ll end up with someone else.” She told him, sighing a little. “We should head back. I gotta finish up wedding stuff and then I gotta go check in on dad. He’s been so pissed since the doctors appointment last week.” She sighed.

He headed back down to the kitchen later on and sighed a little as he watched her. “You know drinking isn’t going to fix anything.” He muttered. “Neither of us should have lied.” He frowned, standing behind her.

Jordan gave a sad laugh and nodded "Alright..." he murmured before he stood up and frowned at the mention of her dad "Yeah I've had to hear an earful too. I'm at fault because I told you about it." He explained as he walked with her

Max gave a small frown and nodded "I know, but I wanted a drink." She murmured and sighed heavily "No we shouldn't have....I'm sorry I kept it from you." She said softly

She smiled some and mounted quickly once they had caught the horses again. “Look at least now we can do something to help him. Rather than sitting round waiting to see what’s wrong.” She sighed a little.

He sighed heavily and shook his head. “I’ll assume he remembers you.” He muttered. “It’s gonna complicate things but I’ve only got a couple jobs to help them get legit for a couple months then I’m free of them.” He told her.

Jordan mounted his horse he caught it and gave a nod to her "Yeah, I'm sure they'll be able to help him." He murmured before sighing some "So how was New York? We haven't really talked about it."

Max gave a small nod "There isn't a chance that he wouldn't remember me....we grew up together." She said before sighimg heavyily "As soon as these jobs are done I want to leave."

She smiled and shrugged a bit. “Most of it was hell. And starting college was awful. I almost came home. But then I met Pedro and… things just… slowly they got better and better but then I finished and we both wanted out of the city. So we came west. Couple years in Colorado and now weee here.”

He frowned and kissed her head. “I promise you that as soon as we are done we can go wherever you like.” He promised, kissing her head. “I love you.” He murmured, smiling.
