Camp Half-Blood
Two months after the quest to find the missing campers

Everyone made their way to the campfire as it turned dusk, the sky brushed with reds, purples, and oranges like a watercolor painting. To put it simply, it was a nice day full of lots of activities. There was sword and archery training, pegasus riding, monster weakness exploitation lessons, capture the flag (red team won, which was led by the Ares cabin; the Hermes, Hephaestus, and Dionysus cabins were also on their team), and even the unveiling of a play the Apollo cabin had put together. All in all it was pretty exciting, but the past few days had been full of special activities to help build team spirit. The overall mood of the campers seemed well, but the campfire burned a deep red revealing the underlying mood of uneasiness that wouldn’t quite go away. Earlier in the week one of the girls, Daea, had gone on the quest to find the missing campers had returned to camp, but she had changed:

"The unclaimed did this, they hurt us! You can not trust them, they will be our undoing!"

Daea stayed in the big house for a few days before she was able to return to the Hephaestus cabin. Today was her first day resuming normal camp activities. No one knew quite what happened or what she meant, but regardless it affected camp morale. There hadn’t been any serious cases of prejudice towards the unclaimed, but there was definitely tension. After all, for those that remembered the prophecy Leona was given it made perfect sense the unclaimed couldn’t be trusted:

You shall follow the path of those adrift to the oceans of the west,

But shall discover a secret made by those at rest,

You shall find what was lost, but suffer at the hands of traitors,

Beware those you trust, for they are impersonators.

Regardless of the state things were in now, there was a slightly chilled wind making its way through the camp; marking the end of the summer. Change was coming; not just in the seasons. Though it wasn’t said, there was a mutual feeling among the campers that another quest would come to pass. There was too much unfinished; too much mystery to simply let it go. The only question was when? It seemed to be tonight given that Chiron wasn’t at the campfire yet.

“I hate capture the flag,” Blair moaned as he sat down at a bench, holding his lower back like an old man. Every part of him ached. Even his aches had aches. His legs felt like they were fire, mostly due to the fact he spent 99% of the game running if he heard something vaguely resembling a demigod coming his way. For this game, the Athena cabin came up with the great idea to have him be the one to grab the flag since he ran all the time anyway. It was a good idea in theory, except for the fact they were against the Hermes cabin so his scrawny legs had nothing against the epitome of speed. Maybe it would’ve helped if he was in a hamster ball filled with water to get that extra boost but he’d never know since they rejected the idea as stupid and probably against the rules. Even though he was the reason they lost it didn’t really bother him… ok it did, but just because he didn’t want his friends to hate him for ‘throwing’ the game. He really did try this time!

He scanned the campers for any faces he recognized, but he wasn’t sure anyone he knew was at the campfire yet. Then again, it never hurt to try making new friends. Blair’s eyes settled on where the Hermes cabin sat and noticed a slight divide between the actual children of Hermes and the unclaimed. That settled it; he was going to try to meet some new people! He never knew any of the unclaimed that well anyways. He got up from his bench and began marching his way over, then slowly started to falter until he stood in front of them with his back to fire, casting an unintentionally eerie shadow. Now he just felt awkward as a few of the campers stared at him. Some of them had annoyed looks. Others stared. One guy was picking his nose.

Blair forced himself to smile, “Hey there! So um, anyone want to roast some sweet potatoes? I mean, I don’t have any but I’m sure I could find some. Or you know, we could find some as like a quest or something! Kind of like the one that happened a while back but I’m not going to betray anyone- I mean, YOUR not going to betray anyone, right? Ha ha…”

He internally punched himself, for he was certainly the most charismatic person alive.

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class="content"] The game of capture the flag was over and Cid ended up with another win for the Ares cabin. It felt really good, it always feels good winning, to be honest. His team did a good job, Tyler and Damian were unstoppable and the other unclaimed kids did very well as well. The biggest threat in Cid's opinion was the Apollo cabin, especially Bonnie, the girl rocks with the bow and arrow! Cid was returning the equipment used in the game to the Hephaestus cabin. As always, the place was noisy and hot, with all the machines and inventions going. He learned in a bad way to be careful about going to this place. Cid then remembered one of the members of the Hephaestus cabin: Daea. The girl, along with two other campers, Leona and Frances. They went on a mission and Daea was the only one who returned. Cid was still hoping to see them back, he missed Leona, she was a good friend and his rival. Right now, he didn't saw Daea anywhere, maybe she was outside her cabin or in her room working with something. Suddenly, something caught Cid's attention. He saw something hairy and white moving. Does the Hephaestus cabin have rat problems? Were they experimenting with rats? His curiosity was too much and he followed the 'rat' path. "Hey little friend, come here~ If someone catches you they most likely will kill you" Cid tried to call the 'rat' being friendly to it. The path ended with a closed-door. It probably was the room of someone. Better he knocks to alert him or her of the 'rat' in the room. "Hello?" He knocked. "Is someone there?" [/div] [/div]

he night felt chilly. Adrian wanted to sit closer to the fire to feel some of the warmth even if it was burning low, but stayed where he was; near the edges of the campfire with the other outcasts. He thought about maybe trying to talk to some them and bond over their shared status but they probably liked being alone.

Adrian sharpened his sword.

He hadn't been at camp very long. He had showed up just before summer started when all the other campers would come back to Camp Halfblood. It would have been great timing to meet some people but he'd been such a mess recovering from the harrowing experience of running all the way from Massachusetts to New York on foot with monsters trying to kill him, not to mention worrying about what his Mom and Grandpa would think about him ditching school and becoming a delinquent. By the time Adrian had finally found his footing, all the campers had settled in with their cliques and he was left trying to fit in. At least that reminded him of home.

What didn't fit in though was some camper coming over to all the unclaimed outcast campers to make nice. Not even some camper, the Poseidon kid. The guy that hit the jackpot as far as godly parents go despite the whole, not actually being allowed to exist thing he'd heard about. What was his name again? Blake? Blue? Bryan? Man, Adrian loved sweet potatoes. Too bad Bruce didn't actually have any. What a betrayal. That was a touchy subject. Did he even want to talk to him anyway? Adrian was too busy right?

He realized he'd been staring unblinkingly at Blaine while he was lost in thought and tried to force himself to focus.

He wanted to make friends, right? Well this was his chance! Be friendly, funny, and helpful!

"I like sweet potatoes. They're potato-lly awesome! We can go look for some together!"

Potato-lly nailed it.

Almost everyone was talking about Daea returning or the warning she gave, how two of the others were still missing or about the normal camp activities. Laura was not one of those people if anything she was only annoyed that Daea had returned instead of one of the others. Laura had not visited her half sibling while she recovered when others had and she had no interest in seeing her again. Laura hated Daea, hate, hate, hated her for being in her mind the golden child of the cabin that was everything Laura wanted to be and more. Still instead of doing something stupid like going after Daea, Laura just shut herself away more than normal until she might calm down. She had simply not left the cabin in days, not that it was anything new for her, and played her games ignoring the outside world for one she liked more. With all the other members of the cabin out doing whatever they were doing Laura thought she had the cabin to herself allowing her to leave her room without running into someone and getting mad at them. Laura might hate just about everyone, but getting mad was tiring and Laura would rather just play her games right now.

So it went without saying that Laura was surprised to hear movement, the door opening, someone walking, a voice she didn't know, in sort a visitor. That was not something Laura wanted to deal with, visitors always wanted something and she didn't want to work with some idiot who just wanted a magic sword to go get themselves killed by some monster. All the campers were idiots like that over eager for their own deaths for something as stupid as being a hero. Laura knew all their work was pointless everything they killed would revive in time it was pointless. Thus Laura started heading to her room even as the other camper spoke up she just hurried back to her room and hoped the idiot would go away.

That hope was in vain as the idiot drew closer and closer calling out for something. Laura just wanted him to go away already steal whatever he wanted and fuck off that would be great instead he was knocking at her door. She could just ignore it but this idiot didn't seem to understand trespassing and would likely just come in. She would just have to tell him off herself, that tended to work to get people to leave her alone. Thus Laura sighed and opened the door treating the other camper to what might have looked like a monster. Her hair was waist length filled with knots and split ends clearly not cared for, her arms and legs were to thin to be normal though not yet to thing to be called unhealthy. Her skin wasn't just pale it was was as white as chalk, clearly not healthy, her shirt was a little to big and was dirty not from oil but from minor spill her shorts the same. Still the most inhuman thing about her was likely her eyes, her irises they were a pale red though unlike normal eyes she seemed to lack pupils she just had two red circles in a sea of white. " What the fuck do you want already get lost finding your cabin or something because it sure as fuck isn't this one?" she asked though it wasn't really a question she expected answered hopefully this guy would just leave after that.

Daea Nimitz

The last several days had been ones of contemplation and thought on the event that had lead her to being back at the camp. As she spent time searching her thoughts she began to realize she couldn't fully remember certain aspects. While it bothered her for a split second something calmed her mind and she felt the anxiety wash away, replaced with a want to socialize. Getting up from her bed she stretched, the recent capture the flag game having made her muscles sore and her body ache. While it was a decently good pain in her eyes her still wasn't the happiest individual about it. Despite the low pain she pushed her door open just in time to hear a voice she recognized rise above the din of the cabins dull clicking and mechanical whirling. Turning her head to see Cid and a bothered Laura she thought about saying something but decided not to interrupt the two of them.

Taking a few small steps she gazed around the cabin, seeing where everything was at, how it was progressing and what things still needed to be tended to when she came back to the cabin later. After taking a small inventory of what was being worked on she finally made her way to the camp fire. The voices were all ever so slightly hushed but two seemed to be louder than the rest, and what was being said made her feel alittle odd. Part of her wondered if they were making fun of her outburst when she finally returned, or if the two speaking were really that socially terrible. Listening for a few more seconds and she slipped quietly down into a seat in her area of the campfire. Yeah, they were definitely not making fun of her but on some levels she wished they were, the exchange began to get more awkward as Blair continued... then Adrian spoke up. "I think you mean Marshmallows... I never roasted a sweet potato." Daea quipped as she watched the two of them.

Though, if one were to study Daea's face close enough they could see that it wasn't Blair and Adrian that she was watching but the unclaimed kids around them, almost as if using the actions of the two of them to gauge how the unclaimed would react to someone bringing up what she said, even if it seemed purely accidental on Blair's part. Daea's attention was knocked away from the others as she felt a gust of cool air wash over her. The normally hot running girl felt a cold run up her spine and she twitched slightly before taking out a small pair of gloves and putting them on.

Geronimo scowled as he rolled up his hoodie's sleeves. This was usually such a nice time of the night. The crisp air of the evening, the warmness of his autumn clothes and the fire. But like most half-bloods, Mo was often haunted by odd prophetic nightmares. To his great displeasure, Mo couldn't remember the prophetic nightmare he had the night before. But he had a sense of impending doom - and his senses of impending doom tended to be correct.

What's more, Poseidon's kid decided to stroll over to where the surviving unclaimed campers were. Likely to find friends. Hopefully, he understood that he was at a disadvantage in this particular section of the camp. As a child who was in danger BECAUSE his father pretended Mo didn't exist, it's hard to find sympathy for someone whose godly parent was one of the Big Three.

"That's insensitive," Mo snaps at Blair, "Those kids are still kids, and they're still missing. And either way, we have no idea what happened or what's going to stop it from happening again. Which means WE are all STILL in danger."

Mo sneers at Adrian's comment. "If anything, it would be 'potato-tally'. It sounds ridiculous otherwise."

Mo cleared his throat. "And either way, we can't leave campgrounds... especially to find sweet potatoes. Go talk to one of the Demeter kids. Maybe they can help you out."

"You know," Mo thought to himself, "Where you're WANTED."

After the brief silence that followed, Mo sighed with guilt. "But if you want to make s'mores with us..." Mo waved the bag of marshmallows he had towards Blair, "Feel free to sit with us. We're all family, right?"

He then looked at Daea. "Actually, roasted sweet potatoes are quite good. Koreans do it quite a lot in the winter. It's sweet, and it fills you with warmth."

Tyler Westerian & Damian Westernian

Everything was fine. Great even, life at camp was as exciting as ever. The game was a rush, and it definitely drained Tyler of his energy but Cid was great, Damian was as brilliant as always even if he had to drag his brother’s ass for it. Overall, both teams gave it their best. Which reminds him, he could tell Blaire was trying hard regardless of being in the opposite team. And being in the campfire, eating after a weary exercise was the best. His plate was filled with meat, it was an all-meat platter saved for the buttered corn at the side and his auto-refilled glass of Dr. Pepper. Things would have been perfect but it wasn’t.

Sadly, it was quiet. The burning of the wood seemed to be louder than it should be due to the tense and silent atmosphere. It was clear as day how bothered the people were ever since Daea came back, even after an exciting match at Capture the Flag, which they won the twins providing great help as well as every other one in the team. Despite the looks and suspicious thoughts, the two seem undisturbed, but of course, it hurts to be seen as the bad guy after years and years of being together and a good relationship… at least Tyler is.

Damian was tired. But by this point, it would be a surprise if he wasn't. But Capture the Flag was the extracurricular that sapped most of his energy reservoir. He liked it. It was fun. But he would be dragging his feet by the end of it. It also doesn't help that he uses his powers extensively during these games due to how useful they were for such a strategic game. Cid, as usual, made for quite an ally. With a strategy in place, they managed to execute and win against the competition.

Now Damian was sitting with his brother, occasionally taking a bite from his pasta and taking a sip from his iced tea. It was relatively silent and anyone could feel the tense air that laid over the area. The suspicion that was placed on the unclaimed children such as himself was too great to ignore - and since neither Leona nor Frances, two known campers, didn't come back, it was only understandable. Daea still hadn't explained in full what had happened. Only spouted the unclaimed being traitors and that was that. Damian would have appreciated an explanation. But as usual, he also didn't seem to care all that much either.

"Hey, Ty." Damian called out, kicking his brother lightly from across the table to catch his attention. "Not that I'm doubting Daea and her claims, but aren't you curious as to what really went down?" He idly questioned as he took another bite, making a cursory glance around. "Wouldn't you want a proper explanation as to why we can't be trusted?"

Tyler was uncharacteristically quiet even with the smile on his face as he ate his food. He could feel the stares of a few campers, he’s pretty sure a few, if not some, are whispering about the unclaimed being “traitors” as Daea had mentioned a few days back. Been like that ever since. Hopefully, all things will fix itself soon.

Ouch.” He muttered at his brother’s action, giving Damian a slightly questioning look before hearing what he had to say. He wondered the same thing too, “Of course I do. We didn’t stay in this camp to be suspected of betrayal, especially not after everything we’ve been through here. I get that it’s odd that we’re still unclaimed, not that I want to know who our father is but it’s really crazy how fragile trust is.” He stated with a slight irritation on his face, “I hope Daea wakes up soon, maybe it was all just confusion? In a spell? She was the only one who got back to camp after all.

Tyler took another piece of meat and into his mouth and ate before taking a sip from his beverage.

"It's paranoia, Ty. I don't blame them." He stated as he ate another bite. Damian did suppose the accusations weren't entirely baseless. He could remember that time… could it really be connected to the other missing campers? He shook the thoughts out of his head, deeming the information archived because he couldn't piece them together. "A lot of what-ifs. What if Daea is right? What if Daea was wrong? What if we were planning to destroy the camp all along? What if-" He gestured with his hand to motion that it goes on. "It is rather disappointing, but alas, it's not something we can fix without the proper information and proof."

Damian looked down at his food, frowning when he noticed the frost that was starting to form on the metal surface of his fork. He put it down for a moment and pressed his hands together, going into his usual thinking position. "I mean, we could ask her now." He pointed out. "She's up and about already you know? Probably won't talk to either of us though. Considering we're traitors and all."

Tyler shakes his head as he finishes his meal, nodding his head to the things the frosty twin of his was saying. His eyes went wide when Damian suggested seeing Daea then slumped a bit upon hearing the word “traitors.”

I get what you’re trying to say though.” The blonde teen sighed, scratching his head. He picked up his plate and threw the rest of his food to the fire where the offerings to the gods are served. Sitting again beside the other Westerian in the camp, Tyler took notice of his brother’s fork is slightly frozen. He bumped his shoulder with his brother and gave him a lazy smile, “Hey, it’s saddening that they think that way but we both know for sure that we ain’t.

Once again, he got up and stretched his legs and arms. Feeling relief from doing so, he placed a hand on his twin’s shoulder and asked, “Wanna get back to the cabin and get some rest? Capture the flag was pretty tiring.” Ending his sentence with a yawn that accompanied his want for rest.

"Yeah. And all that really matters is that we are innocent." Damian let out a huff as he regulated the control of his frost aura. With his brother around, the air was normal - the two countering and neutralizing each other's aura. However, Damian knew that he was slipping from control. "It would be great if the gods started claiming their children early." He pointed out with a shake of his head.

At the mention of rest, his head perked up and he nodded. "Rest sounds good." He agreed. Damian would never say no to rest. "In fact, that's the only thing I want now." He stood up and threw the rest of his food into the fire as well. He wondered who would receive his and Tyler's offerings.

Alright, let’s go.” The jolly of the two said as soon as Damian offered his plate of food, leading the way to the cabin and away from the campfire. He took notice of Blair approaching the table of the Unclaimed children but he couldn’t hear that well due to being far away, then came Daea. Whatever was happening their right know felt like something they should bother themselves with and headed straight to the doors of the Hermes Cabin where they have stayed and lived for a whole seven years of their life in Camp.

"Oh, hi little friend. Have you seen a..." He didn't want to say 'rat', because most likely it would scare this girl "...mammal?" Yes, that's it. Cid then took a look at the room behind the girl. The place wasn't very big, but comfortable enough. Laura had a computer with a large monitor, a shelf with random electronics and games, her bed and a mini-fridge beside it. As a demigod with ADHD, Cid was easily distracted by everything he saw. "Hey, do you have a computer? Does it have internet?" Cid entered the room without asking, marveled at everything he was seeing. "I thought Chiron forbade any kind of interaction with the outside, even phones. Oh? What is this?" Damian had been fully intending to waste his evening away inside the cabin, before the Hermes kids would think of telling him to go out for the night. Even with Tyler's presence, the cool air still wasn't very comfortable for any of the kids that slept inside the same cabin. He didn't quite mind, it wasn't like he slept for very long anyway. Still, it would be nice to be able to rest his head on the bed for even a few minutes.

However, he suddenly stopped in his tracks as his eyes went to the young ones to the side. There was Blair, son of Poseidon, bravely going over to the group of unclaimed kids to talk with them. From what he heard, he seemed to have made quite a blunder. However, it didn't escalate into a fight. And he would have turned his head away, content that there wouldn't be any more dissent within their ranks for now, but his eyes landed on Daea. Ah yes. There she was.

He turned heel and headed over to the group, his presence lowering the temperature ever so slightly, but the campfire surely provided enough warmth that it wouldn't really quite matter. "Kids." He greeted, with his usual cordial nod. "I heard there were marshmallows. Spare a few for a sleepy campmate?" He asked kindly, placing a hand on Geronimo's shoulder and punctuating his statement with a small yawn. Not entirely out of place for the unclaimed kid. He wouldn't be doing anything and he would still yawn. "Good game, by the way." He continued. Damian, admittedly, barely remembered what their positions were. Especially those that were on the opposite team, whose only interaction he had was either blinding them or blowing them into the river. Nevertheless, it was only courtesy to greet.

And then he turned to Daea. Source of their problems. The twins' earlier subject. One he had so many questions for. But it was not the time for that. He had little want to create conflict right then and there. No, he'd rather wait until she was alone to confront her. They were questions that might stress her out, true, but he had to know. He must know. But, once more, Damian knew how to hold back. He knew when not to push. It would only end badly for him, and not Daea.

"Hey, you holding up alright?" Damian asked, and he really was concerned. She had seemed so shaken up. And now, she was returned to the normal camp activities. Integrate her back and hopefully ground her. "When you came back, you weren't exactly in your best condition." He remained silent about the other thing that had happened upon her entrance.

Blair smiled at the guy with glasses that responded to him (was his name Adrien?), almost in relief. At least his awkward comment didn’t stir up anything considering how tense things already were.

Then Daea spoke up.

He felt a cold breeze go over the back on his neck. It wasn’t really fair to be spooked by her, but she did single handedly mess with camp vibes. He had a million things he wanted to ask her though everyone probably felt the same way. Since it was her first day back doing normal activities he didn’t want to risk upsetting her. Besides he didn’t know her that well to begin with so if anyone was going to stir the pot it should be someone she knew well. His mission for coming over to begin with was to meet new people though it would totally hurt if he tried to get to know her well enough to ask something like that.

Blair was about to respond to Adrien and Daea when someone else he didn’t know spoke up. It was another guy with black hair and glasses, but he distinctly looked asian. He seemed to know who Blair was well enough given by the venom in his voice. Of course he knew who he was.

Blair unconsciously took a step back at the biting remark.

He was ready to just apologize for what he said and go somewhere less hostile, but then he heard him direct his anger towards Adrien. It made sense for the guy to be mean to Blair, like he was still a jerk for it but at least he had a good reason, but Adrien did nothing wrong. He wanted to muster some of comeback but the moment passed, not he would have said anything anyways. He wasn’t sure if he really wanted to have s’mores and forget about what he just said, but something about the guy’s tone made it sound like he was challenging him.

“Right…family,” Blair repeated with a clear distrust in his voice.

He could feel the tension coming back and decided it would be best to just avoid the guy from the time being. Blair grabbed a few marshmallows out the bag before holding one out to Adrien, “Do you want to see a neat trick on how to make perfect marshmallows? I mean the gods probably hate my method but you’ll have to find out why.”

Bonnie had a blast today. It almost felt as if everything was going back to normal- except it wasn’t. Ever since Daea came back, Bonnie’s felt uneasy, but she tried to hide it by keeping herself busy with camp activities, the play, and she even made brownies for Daea everyday till she felt better. Even her loss in Capture the Flag pushed back her apprehensive thoughts. Her job was to guard the blue team’s flag by sitting in a tree, firing arrows at opponents. She managed to send quite a few people to Flag jail, but the end of the game left her out of breath as she had to chase someone across the creek. Bonnie couldn’t imagine doing that the whole game. ‘Poor Blair,’ she thought.

After the game, Bonnie headed to the infirmary to tend to any injured campers. She spent a little longer than usual in the Big House since she got tangled up with a pack of bandages- literally. How she did that, we’ll never know. As soon as she finished up at the infirmary, Bonnie headed over to the campfire. It was awfully quiet except for the crackling flames and a few voices. She recognized some unclaimed campers chatting with Blair and Daea… Daea? Daea!

Bonnie only caught a snippet of the conversation happening before she raced to her friend and squeezed her into a hug. “I'm so happy to see you here! Are you okay?” Bonnie retracted her hug and began to touch Daea’s forehead, her gloved hands, and examined her like a patient, or like a concerned parent would do to their sick child. “Now will you tell me what you meant about the unclaimed-- Wait… Did you say something about marshie-mallows?!”

Her head whipped around to the other campers as she reached out for the bag of marshmallows. Bonnie was just as curious as the other campers about Daea’s outburst, but she didn't have the same restraint as everyone else to refrain from questioning her. Despite being unafraid and willing to ask the question everyone probably had on their mind, Bonnie was much more interested in the marshmallows. Maybe she had different priorities, but Bonnie would do anything for a taste of that fluffy goodness.

Blair was just going to ignore him, huh? That's fair. Mo was being... less than friendly.

Mo flinched when he felt someone touch his shoulders. After registering Damian, he relazed and raised his eyebrows. He had somehow found himself in the position of "marshmallow distributor", and it was gathering a lot of other campers. That was fine. As much as Mo hated to admit it, he liked being part of the vibrant social interactions. He lifted the open bag of marshmallows for him to pick out a few.

Mo grabbed a closed bag of marshmallows and tossed it at that one blond girl who was apparently friends with Daea. "Here are you mallows of marsh. Let's just spread these out, I guess."

"Well, Daea..." Mo cleared his throat. "I guess we all have a lot of questions for you. If... you know. Only if you're up for it. I understand you were very... um... distressed."

Mo was visibly less comfortable talking to Daea. After all, it was easy to snap at Blair. He was a bit childish, and hadn't gone through a traumatizing event recently. Perhaps Mo was being less than mature for being jealous of those who were claimed - but nevertheless, Mo felt an admittedly irrational sense of hostility for Blair. He felt something similar towards Daea, but... well, to put it simply, he felt bad about hating her.

Maybe Mo should just relax.

He gave a brief apologetic glance at Daea, then to Blair, before returning to his scowl.

drian wanted to punch himself in the face for being such a mistake. Of course it'd be potato-tally! Why was he such an idiot? That's why he didn't have any friends, even among the other unclaimed kids. They all probably sensed that'd he was some loser-

Do you want to see a neat trick on how to make perfect marshmallows? I mean the gods probably hate my method but you’ll have to find out why.

Adrian was shocked. Did Water Boy actually want to talk to him? Or maybe he was trying to make him feel better because he felt obligated to. He really wished he could remember what that guy's name was. Aside from Mo, he seemed like he had a lot of friends, especially now that they were all gathering up to take part in the roasting of the marshmallows.

Maybe this could be his chance to try making friends! While Adrian still felt kind of on guard because of Mo(so much for unclaimed kids solidarity), he figured it wouldn't hurt to try getting to know people. After all, there were so many people already gathered around, including that one Hephaestus girl, Daea, who'd been then center of camp gossip. It'd be a good chance to hear what was going on first hand.

Adrian crossed his arms to pull his jacket around him more closely, "Yeah that'd be great! I'm Adrian by the way."

Laura had been about to yell at the guy more as apparently he didn't get she didn't want to talk to him. The guy just went on about finding some mammal, what kind of mammal would be around here, maybe a mouse or something. Still she didn't want to deal with this guy and just wanted to go back to her games. The guy had other ideas as he barged into her room and started asking questions and playing with all her various things. Laura did not like anyone in her room as it was her space where she was free of the stares of the other half bloods. Laura would have told him to stop, to get out but the guy was running around and asking to many questions to fast for her to actually get a word in. He did ask a few smart questions as while Chrion had mostly not allowed outside contact he had simply ended up turning a blind eye to Laura, she assumed it was pity after it was revealed she would likely never leave the camp for 6 years she had been here what kind of monster wouldn't allow someone like her no contact with her parents. Laura did feel she had lived up tot he trust he put in her by turning a blind eye by not revealing anything about the camp and not causing any breaches of security. Still she wanted to get this guy out of her room.

" Did no one teach you any manners ?" Ask asked angerly " You don't just barge uninvited and unwelcome into other peoples rooms" She continued trying to get between the guy and her stuff "I unlike you am trusted with contact with the outside world " she half lied there was pride in her voice though as it was one thing she had over him. " Now get out i don't want anyone in my room don't you have monsters to slay or something else stupid to do?" She said wanting to get him out.

He wasn't looking for a classic greek mythological monster, but something that during history has caused many deaths. "Yeah... you're right. I have to slay a monster. No. Something even worse." Cid drank the rest of the can and led it over a table. Then he got closer to Laura, crouched, took her by her shoulders and looked at her in the eyes, a frown forming in his face as he recalled what he knew about the small but ultimately deathly creature he just saw. Those creatures were all over the world, their tooths could break even iron and were the nightmare of housewives. This was serious, very serious. If this creature manages to reproduce the Camp Half-Blood would be in serious trouble. "There's a deathly creature in this room. I once learned about this in school, this creature along with many, many others, killed a third of the population on the planet." He took a moment to make an unnecessary dramatic pause. "We have to take it down or the camp might be in danger!". Cid stood up and ran outside the room. It only took less than twenty seconds to him to return with some of the equipment used in the game of capture the flag; two leather armors, two bronze swords, and a pair of helmets. Cid pushed one set of equipment to Laura for her to take it. "We'll need to be prepared." Said Cid while putting on the armor. "Rats might seem small and inoffensive, but they are absolutely dangerous!" He took his sword and was ready to fight for well being of the Camp Half-Blood. [/div] [/div]

Daea Nimitiz
Mentions: Everyone at the campfire.

“I never tried eating roasted Potatoes of any kind. Let alone of the sweet variety, or the Yam variety.” Daea responded looking over at Kim. Glancing around at the others around her she felt a sense of unease shared among all of them. The feeling while attempting to be hidden was rather obvious to the observant Daea. Shifting uncomfortably where she was sitting she immediately thought about getting up and trying to leave the situation but managed to push the anxiety she was feeling down. Should she just continue to push the rhetoric she start or leave it be for the time being. The thoughts buzzed for a few moments before she came back to reality. A sudden but sharp change in temperature made her tense up, but she knew immediately who was approaching.

Looking over and up at Damian she realized he was standing pretty much right next to her. “Im… okay.” She responded thinking hard on what to say. She knew the questions were going to bombard her at any moment now and she just didn’t want to put up with them right now. “Its been a rough past… time. In time I am sure I will be fine…. I hope.” Daea mumbled under her breath at the end. That was when she felt something snake around her body making the girl seize up at the sudden body contact with Bonnie. In the past she would have spun around and hugged the girl back but in the moment Daea looked like a deer caught in a set of headlights, she seemed confused and scared. Squeezing her eyes shut she shuddered before hearing Bonnie begin to ask her what happened. The anxiety turned suddenly to fear and before she knew it she heard the noise of her right arm hitting the side of the log she was sitting on as it suddenly went limp.

While Bonnie seemed to be distracted Kim doubled down on Bonnie’s questions and prodded Daea himself. “I don't want to talk about it.” Daea said plainly, the normal gregarious and life filled tone of voice everyone would have remembered was not there, replaced with something more monotone and drained. Shifting uncomfortably once more she seemed to shut up like a clam from the more open sense of being she gave off before.

More campers came to the campfire. Blair acknowledged most of them with a nod and small smile, but time seemed to slow down as Blair noticed Bonnie. As she walked over he immediately began fixing his hair before offering a slightly too enthusiastic wave. The fire light made her hair glow like a beautiful sunset, making her look ethereal… not that he wouldn’t think the same of everyone else. When she hugged Daea he couldn’t help but let out a particular kind of sigh. He couldn’t help but wish that-

“- I'm Adrian by the way."

Blair’s eyes focused back on Adrian. Finding himself wanting to look elsewhere, he shifted his stance to keep Bonnie out his line of sight, also becoming unaware of what was happening with Daea.

He thought Adrian was going in for a handshake and started to reach his hand out as well, until he saw him cross his arms instead. In an attempt to not seem lame he pulled his hand back and swept his hair to the side instead. However, being him he more so slapped it across his face. To make matters worse it was in the opposite direction of how his hair normally parted, leading to something that likely looked really stupid.

Blair stammered out, his voice cracking (in all honesty his voice usually cracks so more noticeably this time), “Uh…I’m- well I don’t know if there’s really any point in introducing myself. All that really matters is I’m Aquaman. But I guess I’ll be the Human Torch for a little bit. ” Blair poked his marshmallow onto a stick he had and thrust it into the fire near the embers, causing it to immediately catch fire. He looked back at Adrian offering a small smile.

“So, how long have you been here? I don’t think I’ve seen you around much.” Blair asked. His eyes darted to his marshmallow, which had a nice char but he made no move to take it out the fire.

Laura felt her normal anger at everyone and everything being replaced with confusion at the antics of this guy. She knew some people here were muscle brains but this guy was just a plain idiot for sure. There was no way any rat was carrying fleas that had the black death, it was far more rare these days. Before Laura could even speak up to tell the idiot that the chances of his fears were beyond slim he ran off only to come back not with a mouse trap or anything reasonable, but with armor and swords. How did he plan to use these in a confined space like her room? Laura was half tempted to just say the rat was her pet to get him to stop doing such stupid things. It did strike Laura as odd he was worried more about the black death than rabies as she looked over the equipment as rabies was at least a modern illness. Still they didn't need weapons and armor to catch a rat just an mouse trap.

" I am not sure what kind of idiot you are but you are the biggest one i have met in this camp so far" Laura said pinching the bridge of her nose " I have never seen anyone else so stupid as to thing swinging swords in a confined space around a bunch of delicate things they don't own is a good idea" She continued annoyance appearing in her voice again " Or someone who worries more about a now fairly treatable illness over rabies and when trying to catch a RAT brings SWORDS AND ARMOR over A MOUSE TRAP" She finished shouting to emphasize the reasonable courses of action.

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class="content"] Cid was hearing Laura yelling at him while he was very focused on checking the room, under her bed and the places where a rat might get into, his face showed full commitment and determination. Then she talked about a mousetrap. Huh. That would be a logical solution... only if the situation was logical at all. Then Cid realized what was going on. His eyes went wide open and a chill ran through his spine. "Laura... haven't you thought about it? Tell me just when the camp has ever dealt with a wild animal that wasn't a monster? Nothing should go through the defenses, not even 'rats'." Cid directed his sight to Laura. He didn't know if it finally clicked, but this was way too serious. The Camp Half-Blood's defenses have been violated. They have to find that thing ASAP! But it was very squishy, so how could they attract that monster? If it really wasn't a rat, surely cheese won't work, so what can be used to get the attention of this monster? The answer was as easy as terrible. Demigods. Without hesitation Cid took his bronze sword with his right hand and made a cut in his left hand, letting blood flow over the floor. Cid wasn't very smart, he knew that, and was okay with that. Probably having more brain cells won't allow him to do something like this. A couple of seconds later, squeaks and cracks sounded in Laura's closet. "There you are!" Said Cid with a smirk. Soon to be replaced with confusion. The squeaks became growls and the closet's door exploded, revealing a bizarre creature half rat half feline (Yeah, totally opposites). The creature was growing a scorpion tail and getting bigger every second, all the rat features disappearing. Yep, that is a Manticore. "GROOOW!" growled. The creature was looking at Cid with hungry intentions. "Fuck..." The manticore jumped to Cid and he barely had time to jump back and roll to the right side, crashing with some furniture. Fighting in a small room wasn't the best idea, also the manticore was getting bigger and bigger. "Laura! Now, set the alarm! I'll take this out of here!" Cid knew Laura couldn't fight very well, keeping this thing here would put her in danger. Cid ran the only few steps available and stabbed the manticore with all the strength of his momentum, bringing down the incompletely formed creature. It did something though, make it angrier. The manticore stood up again and looked at Cid with intense hatred and a sword stuck in its chest. They were now in the hallway of Hephaestus cabin, so Laura was out of danger and he was disarmed. The plan was going well... only if he actually had a plan. What Cid really needed was backup. Would people at the campfire give him a hand? His left was bleeding. "Want some of this?" Cid taunted the manticore spreading some of his own blood over his face, seductively. "Come and get it!" He turned back and ran as fast as he could to the exit. [/div] [/div]

Laura was very sure she was in a dream the camp had a shield that kept out hostile monsters, yet there was one that had been a rat moments ago. That was magic for you, a complete pain in the ass. Laura didn't fight or rather she couldn't, there was her side project she had been making awhile before she decided to just give up on even pretending she would one day fight, but she had never finished it. Even if she had put on the armor and picked up the sword Laura knew she wouldn't have stood a ghost of a chance in actually fighting the damned thing. The idiot, who Laura was sure just had the greatest dumb luck moment in all of history, was fighting the beast and luckily after damaging some of her stuff he managed to guide it out into the hallway. There was still the question how the fuck a monster got in here if the barrier was powered by the gods and kept out hostile monsters did some force more powerful than the gods have to let them in or were the gods weakening their protection of the camp. Laura would have to find the answer latter and maybe upgrade the defenses of her room some so this wouldn't happen, if monsters were getting in then she couldn't go out even more now.

Laura first needed to get out and get help as while she might be one to chuckle when others failed a mission, some part of her didn't want people to die. It was night so most campers not yet sleeping would be gathered together likely by a campfire. That was of course just a guess from before Laura had her room and had to participate. That was a plan not a good one but one lat least. Laura while the monster and idiot were fighting would duck out heading towards the door and leaving the cabin for the first time in gods knew how long. With the sky dark and the sun gone Laura could go out without protect and could see the bright fire in the blackness easily.

Laura ran towards the fire and when she guessed she was in ear shot she started to shout " MONSTER IN THE CABIN THERE'S A MANTICORE IN THE CABIN" She shouted already feeling a little winded for shouting and running it had been a long time.

“Sorry, Daea,” Mo said, awkwardly clearing his throat, “Didn’t mean to upset you.”

Mo scowled and flinched, his ears suddenly ringing. For a second, he thought he heard someone mention manticores. To be fair, someone very well could have. Quite a few people had crowded around this campfire at this point. But this voice was... more distant. And it was hard to explain, but the word didn’t really match anyone’s voice here... or anyone that Mo knew, actually.

He spun around. Nobody who isn’t already sitting at the fire-

Mo had spoken too soon. Another camper was sprinting towards the campfire from a distance - the Hephaestus cabin, he guessed. She was panicked, but too far for anyone to hear her.

The young man slowly rose to his feet. He wiped his glasses with his T-shirt and squinted uneasily, trying to read the girl’s expression from afar.

“Hey guys,” Mo managed to mumble to whomever was nearby, “What’s her deal?”

He continued to squint at the girl until, eventually, she started bellowing at the top of her lungs, “MONSTER IN THE CABIN! THERE’S A MANTICORE IN THE CABIN!”

Mo’s eyes widened. He spun around and looked at the other surrounding the campfire.

“We need to get our weapons! Someone tell Chiron!”

Mo reached into his jacket pocket and found his tiny handheld flashlight. He clicked the button to turn the light on, then clicked it twice rapidly. The metal unraveled as two branches protruded from the front, making an arc perpendicular to the flashlight itself. A string lashed out and attached itself to both ends of the arc. Phanos, the flashlight that can turn into a crossbow.

Gods, Mo wished it wasn’t so tiny.

Mo started sprinting towards the cabin. A manticore, and probably only one person defending against it. Mo couldn’t be of much help, surely... but somehow, he knew he would. Mo’s head started hurting intensely. How in Hades did he know these things?

He cocked Phanos as he dashed through the dark.

Camp Half-Blood

A deafening roar could be heard from beyond the light of the fire, sounding vaguely like a human woman screaming and a lion’s ear piercing cry. It was the sort of sound that permeated ones bones and fills them with fear. Or at the very least, dread. A deathly silence followed after for what felt like hours.

Another roar sounded. Mo’s body was flung backwards towards the fire pit, landing in a crumpled heap. The alleged manticore followed.

The manticore stayed just out of the light, only two gleaming yellow orbs appeared in the darkness. The creature’s lips pulled back to reveal its glistening yellow teeth as it caught the light of the fire. Pieces of flesh from its last meal could be seen caught in its mouth, as well as what look like a torn piece of orange fabric.

A deep mocking laughter mixed with a snarl emitted from its mouth. It started to circle the clearing, treating all the campers as if they were but mice caught in its trap. “Pitiful. You demigods are weak!” It taunted.

“The one I had last was tasteless and stringy,” It croaked. It took a deep, raspy breath as it smelled the air.

Its mouth began to overflow with saliva, “A few of you could make for an interesting meal!”

It let out an ear shattering scream and leapt into the air. It flew into the light and revealed its feline body drawn back like an owl, its scorpion tail oozed with a thick green poison. It was ready to pounce on its prey, Mo.

It was weird. For some reason, Tyler didn't notice that his twin wasn't behind him. He'd been yapping all this time on while walking to the cabin only to find out that no one was following him and listening to his spiel about one of their stuck-up-their-asses professors back at school. He turned his head left and right and saw no one, not even a bug. "What a betrayal, if he was gonna go somewhere he could have told me." He walked back, hoping that Damian is near the campfire when he heard a scream and a roar.

He turned his head to the direction of the sound, only to find Laura running and a Manticore bursting out of the Hephaestus Cabin. "Holy shit." He mouthed as he watched them run for a split second before following from the side with a run before stopping and hiding by the nearby statue as the beast circled the campfire. He listened, waiting for the right moment to help.

The moment it gave its deep cry, Tyler dashed from the statue as the mythical beast jumped in front of Mo. He kicked his heat as he flew putting his hands at the front, the adrenaline fueling the heat he was giving off as his hands burst into flames. He rammed at the side of the Manticore, pushing it away from his fellow unclaimed. The beast crashed to the nearby table as the fiery demi landed a bit farther away to Damian. "AAHH! Damian watch out!"

Bonnie's face was stuffed with marshmallows before the attack. Her cheeks were bulging like a chipmunk’s when she turned back to Daea, who almost seemed like an entirely different person. Her voice was the main indicator that something was wrong. It’s usually such a light and melodious thing, but this time it was filled with… something else. “I sowwy, Daea--”

Suddenly, a bitter taste filled Bonnie’s mouth. ‘That’s not right. Are these things expired?’ A wave of confusion washed over her as the feeling of impending doom filled her. Her questions were answered when she heard a girl’s cry and a monster’s roar in the distance. Bonnie flinched from the thunderous screeches and nearly choked on the remaining marshmallows. Springing to her feet, she looked out into the darkness. She saw Laura’s white hair bobbing to the campfire. The boy who handed her marshmallows earlier ran in first and got flung back like a sack of potatoes. The very sight of the ominous eyes and flesh-filled teeth sent chills up her spine, and not just because the male version of Elsa was in the vicinity. Why was there a monster in camp? This wasn’t supposed to be possible.

As the manticore performed his villainous taunts, Bonnie’s instincts prepared her for battle. She tore off her bracelet and within a blink of an eye, it transformed into a 62-inch bow and a quiver strapped to her back. However, Bonnie was slow to draw her bow since the manticore’s screeches pierced her sensitive ears, making her double over in pain. Her head was left ringing and she could barely hear herself call out to the other campers: “Get to safety! Find Chiron!”

There was a sudden ball of fire that crashed into the beast’s side… Or was that a person? Either way, it gave Bonnie enough time to pull nearby campers away from the flaming disaster and scramble to stand on the top of a table and assume a position to fire a few arrows towards the beast. One scraped its side, and another found its way to his bloodied chest. Unfortunately, this only seemed to anger the monster as he reared back and recklessly clawed at its surroundings and flung around its toxic tail.
