One hundred years ago, calamity Ganon took over. The people of Hyrule were left in shambles, their princess staying within the castle to conceal the beast. Chaos and evil took over the kingdom, the divine beasts and guardians turned on the ones who intended to use them to fight this fight. Ganon was weakened, unable to reach his full strength, while the princess waited on her hero. One hundred years later, Link still hadn’t risen from his slumber.

“The hero is gone,” came the Great Deku trees voice, ringing through the clearing of Korok forest. The master sword shone, Fi trying to breakthrough it’s confinement. Many eyes watched him, they had all been waiting. One hundred years was a long time to lose all hope, to lose the person who was supposed to save them. What were they going to do now.

There was a voice, one that did not come from the tree, “fret not, little ones.” The master sword, Fi, had spoken. The blade was shining with an eerie blue glow. “They will save us,” the Korok’s stared in awe, uncertain of who this they was.

“Chosen ones, you must save Hyrule. You all are the only ones who can, the hero has fallen. Please, meet at Kakariko village. There you will find your destiny.”

And with that silent message, their journey began.

Many miles away on the Great Plateau, far from anyone and everything, the faint sounds of a haunting song could be heard dancing on the breeze, almost as if someone was in mourning and that the song was the only way, they could express their grief, if anyone was to hear it, maybe whoever was playing it, was mourning the cruel fate of what happened a hundred years ago. However, just as suddenly the music began, it stopped.

“Chosen ones, you must save Hyrule. You all are the only ones who can, the hero has fallen. Please, meet at Kakariko village. There you will find your destiny.”

A long ear twitched some, hearing the non-existed voice on the wind, causing a sad chuckle to escape his lips, now that wasn’t a voice he hadn’t heard in a long time, it seemed even her own sleep had come to an end and she was calling out for anyone to heed and answer her call, shifting slightly on the edge of the broken window within the ruins of the Temple of Time he was perched on, Link, Hero of the Skies looked out and over the vast land of Hyrule that he could see, it seemed like it was time to save the world once more, with a little help.

Kakariko village was buzzing with news. The hero hadn’t awaken, what were they going to do? One hundred years of time wasted waiting on Link, only for the shrine of resurrection to fail. It was laughable, in reality. All of those stories and passages hadn’t prepared them for this.

“Chosen ones, you must save Hyrule. You all are the only ones who can, the hero has fallen. Please, meet at Kakariko village. There you will find your destiny.”

Not far from Kakariko, on one of their many surrounding mountains, sat a girl. She was in the perfect spot to look down upon Hyrule castle, near the dueling peaks. Sahasra Slope was peaceful, maybe the monsters knew they had won. Link, the hero of time, was dead. Now, a mysterious voice wanted to recruit a group of people.

Four pillars and a pink fog surrounded what used to be the beautiful, renown castle. Atara released a gentle sigh, placing her arms against her knees and leaning against them. If everyone had heard the voice the town would have been in an uproar, meaning she was one of the few specifically called upon. She had come here, to her normal spot to get away, to think. Something she hadn’t been able to do much of.

The abnormal, pig sounding noise met her ears. She turned her gaze to see a few Bokoblins making their way around and simply scooted in closer to the rock she had been leaning against. Not feeling the need to hassle with any sort of monsters at this moment. They managed to reappear each blood moon, anyway.

After they had passed, she decided it would be a good time to head back into town. If she didn’t go now, she would only run into trouble. Standing and stretching she started to take steps towards the village, however, in the midst of not paying attention, a bright blue beam shot in front of her, missing her only by the jump she made back. Conflicted as to how she had missed the familiar beeping noise, she was met with the Guardians red laser.

Atara scowled, green hues shifting towards where her blade would normally be. The blade that she had, awkwardly enough, left home. Years and years of being on these hills, she had never met any danger, being exceptionally good at avoiding it. What a surprise that the one time she forgot her weapons at home she found it. Another buzzing noise sounded, signaling that the guardian was going to shoot it’s beam, the Sheikah once again dodged out of the way with a flip. Landing on her two feet she shuffled in behind a rock, knowing fully well the Guardian would simply make it’s way around and find her.

Zaris and Mirel

Amongst a cluster of trees in Rabia Plain slept a pair of travelers-- a cloak-clad Hylian and his Maraudo Wolf companion. Their campfire from the previous night had all but gone out, now little more than a pile of blackened twigs with some occasional embers glowing softly in the sunlight.

As the Hylian slept, he heard a female voice calling out to him in his mind.

"Chosen ones, you must save Hyrule. You all are the only ones who can, the hero has fallen. Please, meet at Kakariko Village. There, you will find your destiny.”

Zaris stirred in his bedroll as his eyes fluttered open. He tossed slightly to the right as he glanced over at Mirel, still asleep with his head resting gently on his front paws and tail curled up. As Zaris moved about, the resulting rustling noises woke Mirel, their ears perking up as they padded over to him. "Oh, good morning." Zaris said to his furry friend as he gently rubbed the wolf between his ears. "Sorry if I woke you. It's just..."

Zaris lifted the cover of his bedroll and sat himself up, hands resting upon his knees. "I heard... a voice, just then-- a voice telling me to go to Kakariko Village. But, it's odd." Zaris placed his thumb and index finger to his chin in thought. "The only one who spoke to me in such a way is... her... and yet, that was not their voice, I'm sure of it. Come to think of it... the Guardian Spirit's voice had grown rather silent as of late. That, and... the voice mentioned how 'the hero has fallen'." Turning his head to look Mirel in his eye, Zaris asked, "You don't suppose... there's a connection?"

In response, Mirel merely tilted their head.

"Well..." Zaris looked slightly to the right as he glanced over at the way towards Lanayru Road's West Gate from his current position. "It's a good thing we're close by, then. We haven't far to walk." Zaris packed up what items he could as Mirel helped by simply nudging objects towards him with his snout. With the pack-up completed, the pair set out towards the Village.

After just a couple of minutes, however, Mirel let out a snarl as their attention became focused on a nearby group of three Bokoblins prepared to ambush them. In what seemed like a flash, Zaris's hand found itself at his belt as he removed his weapon, a chain whip with a trio of sickle blades at the tip, fashioned at the Hylian's request by a Rito smith for aerodynamics purposes. Right as the pig-like monsters took just a few steps closer, they found themselves getting lashed by a flurry of blows. They weren't particularly strong, but they came fast, with the savagery of a wild animal, rendering them staggered and unable to move. When all was said and done, Zaris pulled his whip back and holstered it on his belt.

"Wretched things." He hissed as he and Mirel pressed on.

Keenan
aka the boulder master except not really

The summer breeze felt good against his skin, warm and smelling faintly of blossoms. Beneath the cliff from which he sat the West Necluda river churned loudly, encompassing nearly all sound except for the occasional bird chirping and prowling Lizafos. It was a peaceful area all things considered, with plenty of places to make camp (or hide, depending on who you were) provided one had the means to scale the cliffsides.

For the past couple of days Keenan had been taking full advantage of all the resources the dueling peaks had to offer, his stomach full of roasted fish and cliff berries. He didn’t want to leave in all honesty, but alas his time was running out. He could only delay the inevitable for so long.

The scar spread across his chest was proof of such. For many moons now the infected cut had been growing steadily more painful, enough that even his near dead perception of pain could pick up. With no way to treat it by himself Keenan was left with only a couple options, both of which left him with a bitter taste in his mouth.

The first choice he had was to throw himself off the highest place he could find or blow himself up before the malice drove him mad. After many failed attempts of staring at bottomless chasms and unable to move forwards, he found that he just didn’t have the courage to act, that annoying sense of self preservation popping up every time. Despite having left the Yiga clan a few years ago and researching when he could for a cure, that realistically left him with no other option.

Keenan needed to visit the place of his distant, technologically advanced ancestors, before one clan had been ripped into two. Kakariko village, home to the ‘mighty’ Sheikah. Every fiber of his being screamed for him to keep running like he had been doing for so long, but deep down he knew that if anyone could find a solution before he became Ganonfied or turn into a monster, it would be them.

Perhaps, maybe if they didn’t slice his throat on sight, they could help him. At least long enough for him to fill in the missing gaps in his memory, find out for sure what happened to his Mum and Dad…They had been murdered no doubt, but how and why? Was it related somehow to the scar—

Keenan shook his head, pushing that ridiculous notion aside. If the Sheikah had any brains they would kill him to prevent any trouble.

Before they did though, he hoped to ask them about that mysterious voice he had heard early this morning…

“Chosen ones, you must save Hyrule. You all are the only ones who can, the hero has fallen. Please, meet at Kakariko village. There you will find your destiny.”

Was it just his mind playing tricks on him, or was some divine being sending him a message? Had the hero really fallen? Just what did it mean by ‘find’ your destiny? Was it complete bullocks or something more?

Too many questions with no apparent answer.

He sighed. No more point in speculating, he was less than a day’s travel from the village.

He quickly gathered his things and prepared to leave. Before he did though, he pushed a nearby boulder off the cliff, and upon hearing the terrified last minute screams of some Bokoblins, he smiled slightly.

Hopefully that’d allow some travelers an easy passage to the stable for once.

His hands formed a sign and with a small puff of smoke he was gone.

~~~
Twenty minutes later, he was jumping from mountain peak to mountain peak when he noticed something unusual in the distance. It was a prowling guardian who by the looks of things had spotted some poor sap and was preparing to obliterate them. At least, that’s what Keenan assumed considering guardians weren’t known to go after wildlife.
Silently moving nearer, he was able to see a white haired girl jumping out of the way of the machination’s laser beam before diving behind some rocks. It was obvious she had some skill in battle by her movements, but if that was the case, where was her weapon? Based on how close he was to the village it was likely she was a Sheikah.
A guilty part of him thought about leaving the girl there to figure her way out of that mess before he pushed that aside. He wasn’t *that* heartless.
Wrapping his hand around the hilt of his sword, he used his other hand to form a sign. Two shadow clones appeared at his side. Nodding for them to move forwards, he called out, “Hey big guy, don’t you know its rude to bully an unarmed girl, or are all of your circuits fried to smithereens?”
That quickly got the guardian’s attention. He heard it beep, its head swiveling in his direction with a click. “That’s more like it big guy.” He said, stepping out from behind a boulder. “I just want to make sure you don’t make a mistake you’ll regret.” The red eye began pulsing. Behind the guardian he saw one of his clones carry the girl to safety. He smiled, saying, “Oh my did I upset you? Bad habit of mind I’m afraid.”
The beeping reached a fever pitch as the guardian hunkered down. Perfect.
A mere second before it unleashed the laser beam, Keenan felt his other clone move into position. “Perhaps you need a facelift?” He inquired.
Then down came the boulder, striking the guardian in its side and sending it off the cliffside. A giant splash followed as his clones disappeared.
With the all clear Keenan approached the girl, offering her a hand. “Right then. You ok there miss?”
"Remi, for the love of all that is holy, get down from there!"
Remi could hardly hear their mother; The rest of the caravan were much farther down on the mountain side, sticking to the beaten path as they moved horses between stables. Still, Remi managed to roll their eyes at the call as they gazed down at the river. The group had started moving recently, as it was early in the morning, and Remi had been climbing up the mountainside more and more as they traveled. It seemed that they had now gotten to a far enough point that their mother was starting to worry. It would've been sweet if it didn't happen so often and feel so stifling to Remi. After all, they were a grown adult--though they supposed that it was hard to tell things like that, considering they were doing the same job they had since they were a kid.
"You really want me to get down there, ma?" they called down, and they could practically see the way their mom's eyes popped opened wide as they called out in return:
"You know that is not what I meant--get down here safely before I-"
Remi didn't hear the rest. They were already catapulting off the side of the mountain and jumping down into the center of the river. Their jump certainly couldn't be considered a dive of any kind; It was more of a wild flailing as they let out an untamed cry, laughing until they hit the water.
The river was cold, and they allowed themselves to stay underwater just a little too long. They were just about to resurface when they heard the voice, cutting through the water like there was someone speaking right into their mind-
“Chosen ones, you must save Hyrule. You all are the only ones who can, the hero has fallen. Please, meet at Kakariko village. There you will find your destiny.”
When Remi resurfaced, they looked strangely pensive as they tried to figure out what the hell that was. They were driven out of their stupor, though, by the voice of their mother screaming their ear off from the riverside.
"I swear to Hylia, if you ever scare me like that again I'll throw you back into that river myself! And don't you dare go getting the rest of us wet--now get out here and towel off so we can get to the Dueling Peaks in some semblance of peace, will you?"
Remi rolled their eyes, a smile on their face as they waded out of the water. "Sure, sure, whatever you say, ma," they muttered, pushing the thoughts of any strange voices from their head as they walked up to the caravan to retrieve a towel. Their older brother offered it to them with a roll of the eyes, and they laughed in return, reaching up to tousle his hair with a wet hand.
It was good to be with family, they thought.
#
Once they arrived at the stable, Remi set to work helping out, doing just about everything they could on the property that didn't involve the horses--because everybody knew better than to put Remi anywhere near any kind of animal. Still, they managed to help out more than enough, and soon everything was set up and their family was relaxing around the fire, waiting for their mother's meal to cook.
"Ay, ma," they said when the meat skewers came out and they were done fighting with their younger siblings for the food, "have you ever been to Kakariko village?"
"Hmm?"
Their mother looked at them with a curious expression. "Of course; I didn't always work on the stables, you know. I used to be a traveler of my own, before I met your father."
Remi took a bite of their skewer as they listened, before looking up to speak again. "Do you think we could go there, then? Later today, maybe."
Remi and their siblings had never been in any of the villages, really. It was easier to transport the large groups of horses in rural areas, so they mostly went around the villages when they could. The glimpses they'd seem of them had always seemed magical, but Remi had never expressed a desire to actually visit the villages before now. It seemed to puzzle their mother, if the furrow of her brow was any indication.
"We're needed on the stable today, dear. Maybe some other time."
That seemed to be the end of that, and Remi ate the rest of their meat skewer in uncharacteristic silence, finishing up quickly and rising from their seat. "Better get to work, then," they said, putting on a smile and patting their mother on the shoulder.
She was right, after all. There was no reason for them to go running off to the village, following some strange voice in their head, when they were needed here. There wasn't anything they needed from the village, anyway.
Everything they needed was right here with their family, and it wasn't going anywhere.
The world of light, a place Mina had heard about in stories from her mother. it was blessed by the goddesses and hope to kingdoms of varied races. That was what it should have been at least, now there was nothing. People still lived and some places thrived, but a kingdom they were not. Just how much had changed from the time of her mother surprised Mina, for little had changed in the twilight realm. It had been as always a peaceful realm bathed in purples, oranges, and reds. Here the harsh light of the sun held dominion and despite what Mina had been told she could exist in it, perhaps thanks to her farther. How a mighty kingdom that had defeated a being whose mere shadow nearly destroyed the twilight realm had fallen mina did not know.
The journey to this world of light had been meant to be a two way process, but Mina had found her way home barred somehow leaving her stranded. Truthfully she had been a little excited to have this adventure to go on, but reality soon hit her as she found herself rather unwelcomed by the inhabitants of this land. None had even known of the Twili, yet they knew the other and reacted in fear and anger as most creatures did. It was true that shadow and light couldn't mix and they perhaps knew on an instinctual level she was the shadow. The kind land of oddities and sun it seemed had long crumbled, and now there was only the fallen kingdom.
From the day her mother had left this world so much time had passed that not even myths of what had happened remained. The invasion of twilight, was forgotten and left in the past. From those to drunk to heed their instincts, to know to attack the shadow before them, Mina had learned of the calamity and how in a short time the kingdom had fallen. The strange thing was who it had fallen to and how such a thing could not happen. Gannon the calamity of Gannon, such a being had appeared in her mother's stories but he was dead slain by her father. There was no way he could be the same being. While it had been Gannondorf that had cause trouble in the twilight realm he was Gannon and he was dead. That much she was sure of, there was no way they were the same, to much time had passed.
Leaving the land of light had become Mina's goal after finding out what had destroyed this realm, and seeing the malice barely held in check. There was no Gannon, not anymore there was just malice and whatever it's source Mina wanted nothing to do with it. Deep down some part of her feared it, the being that it was named after had killed her mother once, and she had seen it's unending hate as it dyed the night sky blood red. Such a thing had no right to exist, it should not exit and Mina who had honestly not expected any of this and had always lived in peace did not want to face the horrors of that thing. It was not what her father or her mother would have done, but they had something, the fused shadow, the triforce, a mission, she was just sight seeing and had nothing.
The mirror, the shattered mirror of twilight was the only way home. her mother had broken it just before returning to the twilight realm, though Mina had never been told why. That was the only thing that could take her home, luckily finding it wasn't as hard as one might expect. Mina was the soon to be queen of twilight, the realm headed her call even so far from it and her own mystical powers were not to be under estimated. A tracker, that could detect the faint hint of the shadow was the solution a compass to the shattered remains scattered by countless ages.
The spell had lead Mina to a great plateau to an ancient ruin. Mina really didn't know the name of it only that it held a shard of the mirror. Still as she came close Mina could feel it, she could feel them, the light was strong here and the power of the goddess had long saturated this place. Mina could feel it the rejection , the hate she should not be here this place was not meant for her kind. Still Mina did not care what the goddesses thought, they had not cared for the twili and had kept their exile eternal so why should she care for them?
Mina walked towards the ruin feeling like her skin was on fire the whole time. Then as she looked up from her spell Mina saw in the window a man in blue even as words entered her mind a call to heroes. Mina didn't know was calling and even if she did, she wouldn't be able to recall it as one name was the only thing one her mind, Link. Mina had only heard of him from her mother, the hero that had killed gannondorf and saved the twilight realm. He should not be here, he couldn't be here, to much time had passed. How could her father be here?
Transfixed mina walked to the window " Link ? " She asked " Are you Link? her voice sounding shocked as it should given just what she was seeing.
Atara didn’t have much time to think, there was another flash, a beam of light, and within the moment she squeezed her eyes shut. What she hadn’t expected, was for the light to disperse as the guardians attention focused elsewhere. What? Why? She didn’t have much time to question anyones motives, being swiftly swept off the ground by some sort of person. She, purposefully, kept herself from struggling in complete shock and restlessness.
She did not want to be saved, she wasn’t some fragile princess. Nevertheless this was, in all certainty, probably the best outcome. She wasn’t going to be obliterated by some guardians beam and, even if she could have gotten away unscathed, her pride was a small price to pay for what could have been her life.
What she found more embarrassing was the boy who had saved her was not from around here. She was quite literally getting rescued by a foreigner who, by all means, had the appearance of any regular old Sheikah. How humiliating. The matter could have been easily solved if she had just remembered her weapon. Atara was an excellent fighter, all the more in some of the toughest situations.
The person, or clone, that had been carrying her disappeared once the threat was eliminated and she was safe. Sitting on the grass, her eyes widened slightly at the sight in front of her. Oh no.. no, no, no, shadow clones could be used by certain Sheikah, but they were much more commonly used around the Yiga. Her body tensed and as a voice sounded near her, her gaze snapped towards the source.
There was a boy, looking as extravagant as ever, standing there with the same being the clone had, had. So he was the one who had helped her, but why would he do that if they were on opposite sides? Allowing herself time for the answer to click in her head, eventually she shook her head and stood up on her own. Dusting herself off, she met his gaze once more, “you’re.. not from around here?” It was more of a common approach, as being overly assertive without any weapons might not be the smartest idea.
She should have thanked him for helping her and, if her mind wasn’t keen on figuring out why exactly he did, she might have. Instead, she was more concerned as why a Yiga was so close to Kakariko and why the events played out the way they did. If the guardian hadn’t killed her, then he should have.
Zaris and Mirel
Both beastmaster and wolf passed through the West Gate of Lanayru Road, and soon they entered the patch of woods that surrounded the Fountain of the Great Fairy Cotera. Zaris definitely felt somewhat at ease as he passed the numerous trees that dotted the area, taking a moment to close his eyes and take a deep breath to collect some of the woodland air in his lungs.
"Ah... peace and stillness." Zaris quietly said to himself.
The young beastmaster was reminded, if slightly, of his home village of Riasa. It was, all things considered, a rather quiet village despite resting on the lip of a dense forest that could definitely get quite spooky at times. Zaris chuckled softly as thinking of Riasa Village reminded him of a saying that was commonly said to all-too-curious children that strayed from their homes:
"Wander not into the trees at night, or the Great Guardian Wolf shall give you a fright."
It was, however, because Zaris had ventured into those woods in the dead of night that he had his fateful encounter with his lupine companion. There was something else Zaris wanted to comment about that saying, but truthfully, he opted not to, for the sake of keeping the old tale alive. That being, the Guardian Spirit Riasa was not some malicious beast that gobbled up lost children. She certainly commanded respect from those that were fortunate enough to witness her divine presence, but Riasa was nevertheless fair to all she surveyed, and every animal that resided in the Woods which housed the Shrine paying homage to the Wolf were like her children, always kept under watch by her mystical eyes. Zaris recalled how the residents of the Village would gather raw meats and baked goods and place them within the Shrine as offerings. Yet, it seemed the last time Zaris had visited Riasa's Shrine that the offerings to her had gone uneaten, aside perhaps from the breads getting slowly pecked to pieces by stray birds that entered through holes in the ceiling where light peeked through.
It was when Zaris and Mirel laid eyes upon Kakariko Village that the former shook off the more mood-dampening thoughts from his psyche. This was indeed where the unidentified voice had said to come, and at this point Zaris could only wonder where exactly in Kakariko he was meant to go. His first guess was perhaps the home of Lady Impa, but for now he took it upon himself to at least resupply for the road ahead while he was in town, walking over to High Spirits as Mirel remained by his side, his bushy tail wagging gently.
Keenan
The moment Keenan offered his hand to the girl he saw an immediate change in the expression on her face, any lingering shock present morphing into trained, familiar weariness. Her green eyes grew hard, body tensing as she studied him carefully. She then stood, ignoring his outstretched hand as she said, “You’re..not from around here?” It was a statement of fact more than a question.
Keenan raised a slight eyebrow, more curious than offended at the girl’s words. From her reaction he guessed she was no stranger to being suspicious of outsiders. If anything she acted like she knew what he actually was. He would have to choose his words carefully in the event she decided to attack him or alert her fellow clansmen and bring the whole village down on his head.
“The Sheikah appear as sharp as ever I see…Quite, I’m relatively new to this part of Hyrule.” He admitted, keeping his body relaxed. “I’ve traveled a great distance from my..home.” The word made him inwardly wince. “And I’ve come to see if I can speak to your Skeikah elders about finding a solution to the problem I’m facing. Whether they will show mercy or pass down judgement I’m not certain, all I know is that I’m rather tired of racking my brain for answers.” His lips formed into a smile, a small chuckle crawling its way up through his throat.
Pulling a spice pepper out of his bag, Keenan turned his gaze to the wild horses running across the plains far below, taking a few bites debating before he added, “This will probably sound insane but a voice also helped guide me here. Perhaps I’m meant to be here..?” Shaking his head he threw what was left of the spicy pepper off the cliff and faced the girl again as he cleared his throat. “My incoherent mutterings aside, I suppose I should tell you my name, huh? I’m Keenan, its nice to meet you miss. The guardians are even more restless than usual these days.”
Karcen Karcen
Sky lightly hummed a little as he put his harp away, Fi's call bouncing around his head a little, she had called out for heroes, it was something that he had never heard that from her before, so the situation must be dire. Just as he was about to leave his perch after making sure that he had everything that he needed when he heard someone call his name. Blinking, he turned his head towards the person, only to raise an eyebrow some as if asking if he could help her.
In the far reaches of his memories, she looked familiar in a way, but at the same time, nothing was very solid or ringing any beds as he soon stopped was he was doing, bag half-packed as the Master Sword laid against the stone wall, however, something seemed wrong since for a brief moment, Sky looked a little see-through.
The boys words had her features furrowing, he wanted to speak with the elders. She knew for a fact most of the elders wouldn’t take kindly to him, she couldn’t say much about Impa. The lady had an insight not even Atara herself understood and Atara, oddly enough, had more wisdom than some twice her age. She stood up fully, keeping from slouching or relaxing too much. It didn’t do much as he was still many inches taller than her.
“The elders..” she repeated, trying to find some sort of sense in the situation. After a moment, she shifted again and brought a hand up to rub her head gently, “are you sure about that? The elders don’t like Yiga, they might not let you keep your head.” She wasn’t entirely sure the elders would just behead him the second he walked into town, but she wasn’t certain they wouldn’t either.
When she glanced at him again, he had a spice pepper in his mouth and she nearly gasped. Did he not have tastebuds? Those were hot enough to make any dish extravagantly spicy. She was going to say something, opening her mouth, but his next words caught her off guard. A voice? She wondered if it could be the same voice she heard, after all, the woman did tell them to meet in Kakariko village; her home.
Again, she didn’t get much time to inquire about the situation. Soon enough, he was telling her his name. “Keenan?” She asked, as if she hadn’t heard him correctly. “Oh, I’m..” she trailed off, was her name something he needed to know? She supposed telling him was simply polite and, without much else, he couldn’t use it against her too much. Letting out a breath, she shook off the uncertain feeling, “I’m Atara.”
Aura Of Twilight Aura Of Twilight
Keenan
The Sheikah woman appeared taken aback by his pleasantries, mouth struggling to form words. It wasn’t as if Keenan could blame her for her reaction; after all it probably wasn’t everyday she came across a Yiga, let alone a polite one. “Keenan?” She echoed. Hesitating for a few moments she finally added, “Oh I’m…I’m Atara.”
Keenan felt a tiny pang of guilt in his gut. Poor girl looked extremely uncomfortable but there wasn’t anything he could do about it. He didn’t know anything about Atara or how her clan lived but he wagered he was about to ruin a lot of people’s day simply by stepping into the village. If it wasn’t for the malice swirling through his veins he would turn tail and run.
If only things were so simple.
“Atara.” He gave a slight bow. The name sounded odd on his tongue. It was strange how the Sheikah and Yiga clans still had similar naming conventions despite the passing of centuries. “I’ll have to remember that name.” The tension in the air was thick enough that one could cut it with a knife. “As for your elders, I’m well aware that they will probably put my head on a plaque before the day’s done.” He turned his back to her, looking in the direction of the village. “On the plus side at least that’ll be one less headache for any of us to deal with, no?” Chuckling at his stupid pun he glanced back at her for a moment. “Shall we get going before that guardian’s friends decide to show up? Something tells me they wont want to talk things out.”
endersheart endersheart
Mina watched as the person she thought was link just kind of looked at her and said nothing. Her mother had said link was not that talkative but well to not say anything was odd. If this was not link then they would likely say something about the confused identity. Then the person shimmered fading for a moment before looking solid again.
This was not link, this was not her father. This was an illusion a memory brought into a half life by the holy energies of this place. That was at least what Mina thought as she expected somone that could talk to speak when asked a question.
" So the Goddesses make a phantom of their favored hero " Mina said not to sky but to herself " And not even a good simulacrium at that " she continued deciding the phantom was not her concern she instead went back to her spell she needed to find the mirror peice.
When Keenan bowed, Atara took a slight step back. Her name sounded like pure honey off his tongue, sweet and desirable. Were Yiga supposed to be this polite? She had a hard time imagining so. Bringing a hand up to her lips in a sort of confusion, she stared down at his leaned over form. Words about having to remember her name slipped from his tongue, but she paid it no mind. Too enraptured by the way this “Yiga” clan member was acting.
“Do you not value your life?” She was curious, after what she told him he still insisted on attending her to Kakariko. Why did she care? The question was unknown even to herself. When he turned back to look at her she noted the seriousness on his expression and nodded, “your funeral, I suppose.” That was a great question, why did she care?
Slipping past him gently she decided she’d take the lead as to not cause too much attention. An uproar in Kakariko today sounded like a bad idea, half of the town was already in shambles. Worried about the fallen hero, Link.
Her mind fell back onto other things, a message. The voice she had heard in her head earlier was still there faintly. She wondered if it would keep ringing until she acknowledged it. The thought made her realize something the boy, Keenan, had said earlier. Had he heard it too? “Tell me something.. that voice you mentioned, what did it say?”
Sky looked at Mina once more before a light chuckle escaped his lips as he gently rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, as he did the feathers woven in his hair swayed. This was the first time in ages that someone had seen him, he had more or less forgotten how to talk for a moment.
"I'm sorry about that." He said after a moment of actually remembering how to talk. "It's been so long since anyone has seen me that I was kind of shocked there for a moment." He then lowered his arm to look over at her now.
"Anyways, what brings you all the way to this place? Nothing around here from what I can see is ruins and a whole bunch of well....nothing."
Mina broke her focus as the illusion spoke, so it could speak, that was more than most could do. She however, was still sure the link there was some kind of trick and not her real father. If he had been real then Link would have known just what she was here for, he would have known what any Twili in this realm would want. Still if he was some distraction conjured up by the absent gods then why would he need to ask they would know as well? Mina stopped for a moment just as she would have entered the door to look up to the window once more.
" A broken mirror " Mina said " You are not link if you were you would remember it after all what else would a being a shadows seek here?" she asked more rhetorically than anything. " If you have seen a fragment of the mirror of twilight tell me given some annoying woman seems to be calling for me so i must hurry." She continued though Mina was just using that voice and an excuse she didn't really plan on playing hero.
Zaris and Mirel
"One helping of your finest Bokoblin Guts, if you would... my friend finds them enjoyable chew toys."
Admittedly, the shopkeeper was more than a bit on edge when Zaris entered the general store with a literal wolf following close behind, but truth be told, Mirel was able to maintain his composure, and it was when he patiently seated himself upon the ground and began gently wagging his tail with a "grrrrrrrf" did the shopkeeper feel more at ease and permit the duo to pick out a particularly juicy chunk of Bokoblin viscera after paying for it, which Mirel quickly took to chewing up in his jaws-- with how fervently the wolf's teeth took to them, it seemed rather obvious Mirel had a bone or three to pick with the pig-like monsters.
While they had the time, Zaris and Mirel took a short stroll around the village. The Curious Quiver, the Shuteye Inn... rather enticing places for a traveler to visit, but not for a pair that both preferred not to use bows and were used to camping out in the wilderness on journeys. Along the way, they passed by the elder's home once more. Next to the stairs leading up to the grand edifice were a quintet of statues that bore offering baskets of a sort. Of these statues, the third one seemed to be visibly lacking a piece of fruit compared to the other four. Zaris reached into his pack and produced a spare apple to place into the stone basket...
...only to quickly decide against it. "Actually, on second thought... no."
Zaris stored the apple back away and stood near the water, closing his eyes as he took in the gentle sounds of the flow. This moment of zen, however, was quickly interrupted when he heard barking. Mirel's ears were pressed against the sides of his furry head as a stray Cucco, curious about the wolf, got a little too close to them, nearly getting a face full of teeth as Mirel dropped the guts he was chewing and snapped at the bird. Thankfully, the Cucco evaded harm as it crowed and scampered off, flapping its wings probably harder than they had ever flapped them before. "At least now, maybe the bird will learn not to leave its pen." Zaris commented, folding his arms.
Keenan
“Do you not value your life?”
As Atara began leading the trek to the village, Keenan pondered over her words in his mind, struggling to find an appropriate answer. His first instinct was to say no, he was sick and tired of existing as a mere puppet unable to escape the strings of fate. While his parents had done their best to give him a somewhat decent upbringing they were ultimately unable to shield their son from spilling blood. Once the Yiga elders had discovered his potential to bring glory to the clan, any innocence he once possessed was destroyed in a matter of months. A 7 year old boy was forced into adulthood, shaped into the perfect little ninja to spread chaos as decreed from Lord Ganon himself. Not even a sympathetic Kohga could prevent the elders from taking action. As a result, like many of those who could fight well before him Keenan became a pawn.
Nonetheless, he was kept grounded by the fact that his parents took every opportunity available to make things easier for him. When he wasn’t training or carrying out a mission, Keenan would play games with them or the other children which allowed for happy memories to form that he could later look back on. It wasn’t constantly doom and gloom, happy moments still managing to bring light into an otherwise difficult life.
Perhaps it was those times that kept him sane even after his loved ones’ sudden deaths and gave him the courage (or was it cowardice?) to flee the clan. It certainly gave him a rather interesting opportunity to explore a small portion of the land at least. His curiosity in the outside world had increased tenfold, the legends he had learned of in his childhood inspiring him to keep seeing what the ruined kingdom still had to offer.
But the fact of the matter was, he had still been chosen by Ganon, whatever that meant.
Running a hand through his messy hair, Keenan shrugged as he and Atara crossed a steam. “Do I value my life? Well, let’s just say it’s rather complicated.” It took a moment for the Sheikah woman to respond, and when she did it was on the other, mysterious voice he had heard. Why was she interested in that?
He cocked his head, glancing down at her curiously before he turned his eyes back on the path before them. “It was..a woman. She told me that the hero had fallen and I needed to meet her in Kakariko village.” He replied, voice soft. “She said I was to find my destiny there.”
Atara didn’t know much about this boy, but she had a feeling he was running from something or someone. A Yiga popping up near Kakariko village and accepting any fate given to him? Impossible. Unless they had something they feared entirely more than losing their own life. She supposed it made sense, Yiga weren’t known to be all sweet and loving. This man had characterized a charm most of them didn’t even know. What was he hiding?
Their trek to the village had been entirely peaceful, passing by the stream and getting closer and closer as they went along. No monsters had pestered them so far and Atara was finding herself slowly relaxing. Maybe he wasn’t so bad after all or maybe she was just daydreaming. He hadn’t made a move to attack nor hurt her yet.
After what felt like forever, he spoke up about the woman's voice. The clarification itself had her freezing, halting her movement completely. So, it was related? At least similar to the voice she had heard. Why? Questions swarmed through her head, not understanding why a lady would send them both the same message. There was no way everyone had heard it, someone in Kakariko would have mentioned something about it way sooner.
“Oh,” came her quiet tone, uncertainty of how to respond. She looked up at him, green hues peering at him curiously for a moment, before shaking her head and forcing her feet to work. She came up with something after a short while, murmuring a “I’ll take you to see Impa.”
"You heard Fi?" He asked, unsure of why she wanted such a thing as a broken mirror though was surprised she had heard Fi, but that thought was pushed to the side when she had mentioned that he wasn't Link, causing him to blink some before laughing a little.
"Well...funny thing is, my name is Link but I prefer Sky." He said after a beat, now pushing himself off the window ledge he had still been sitting on. "Though I have the faint feeling that I am not the Link you must be thinking of, I think your thinking of one of the later incarnations...if I'm remembering things right....after all I've been dead for centuries."
He then pointed to the large statue of Hylia, where something could be seen sparkling off and on. "Also...I don't know anything about a mirror, but something's been sparking up there for a while, I don't mind climbing up and checking to see if it's what you're looking for."
After saying that, he made his way to the statue where it didn't take him very long to climb up it, and rooted around the crown area before letting out a bit of an 'Ah!' before leaning over the statue some, waving what looked to be a black shard of something though he was touching it with gloved hands. "Is this what you've been looking for?" After getting confirmation that it was, he soon made his way down with it, before handing it over to her.
"You know..." He said looking at her. "If you are in a hurry, I know of a way to get places faster, as long as you are not afraid of heights."
Keenan
“Oh.” The girl’s voice was quiet, almost contemplative. She had frozen to a stop at his words, a brief look of shock appearing on her face before disappearing as quickly as it had come. There was no doubt in Keenan’s mind now; this Atara girl had heard the same voice he had.
Green eyes full of the same curiosity he felt, Atara shook her head. There was a long pause before she finally muttered, “I’ll take you to see Lady Impa.”
Keenan’s blood went cold. Much as he despised feeling weak there was nonetheless a feeling of tightness gathering in his chest. They were now only feet away from the village entrance, the banner before them proudly showing the symbol of the Sheikah clan in all its glory. The sight of it made him want to vomit or burn it to cinders, a unfortunate side effect of his life in the Yiga clan.
He pushed the hate down as far as he could, forcing his body to still somewhat appear relaxed, the only sign of weariness being his hand hovering just above the handle of his katana.
Suddenly sensing a disturbance in the air, he quickly stepped back a few feet, the place where he been standing prior now embedded with numerous kunai. He had just barely got his katana out when there was a puff of smoke in the air from above, a figure diving at him with a sword of its own.
The familiar sound of steel clashing against steel echoed off the canyon walls, red eyes meeting brown as Keenan blocked the enemy blade with his own.
“Yiga.” The newly revealed Shiekah man hissed. “How dare you show up here.” Keenan pushed his blade upwards, attempting to remove the pressure barreling down on him before his attacker jumped backwards, still in an attacking position.
The man directed his glare towards Keenan’s temporary companion. “Atara, what the hell are you doing?” He demanded. “What is the meaning of this?”
“Well this is quite the welcoming.” Keenan drawled, a small, humorless smirk forming on his lips. “So its attack first, ask questions later now? And here I thought you’d at least ask for my name first, Sheikah dog.”
Soon as the words left his mouth, Keenan inwardly cursed at himself. There goes the Yiga in him going off again.
There was an immediate shift in the air at Impa’s name, whether or not Keenan knew who she was who knew. She was pretty well known throughout Hyrule as having been the loyal protector of the princess. The princess that was now locked away in Hyrule castle in an attempt to subdue calamity Ganon. From what she knew Impa was a strong warrior back in the day, only age having settled her.
The banner at the front of Kakariko town appeared in front of them soon enough; they were here. She didn’t say much, having already explained to him where they were headed. She was merely a guide for the time being.
The aura around them once again shifted once they stepped inside, her lead being broken as Keenan stepped back at the realization of an attack. Just what was she expecting? Nothing ever went smooth around here. Keenan swayed away the Sheikah quick enough, making fine work of it. She was thoroughly impressed. At the sound of her name, she took a step in front of the Yiga member.
“What does it matter? Mind your business Rigo, he’s my priority since I brought him here.” As one of barely any words, this seemed to shock the other Sheikah. He still eventually found the words to speak up, however, “exactly, you brought a Yiga here, what are you possibly thinking?” Atara scowled in response, knowing fully well they still thought of her as some form of a child, which, she wasn’t.
Swiftly grabbing Keenan by the arm, coming to the conclusion that nobody would dare lay a finger on him with her this close, she took a step forward. “I’m taking him to see Impa, he’s special and that’s all that matters. He also has important information against the Yiga I’m sure she wouldn’t want you tainting. So take it from me and find something more useful to do.” With that she quickly tugged Keenan alongside her and past the other Sheikah, giving him one last glare along the way.
If they had the idea in their head that Keenan had some sort of useful information, they were way more likely to watch him closely over killing him. They wouldn’t want such important insight being wasted. Atara figured why not use their extreme hate for the Yiga against them, why lay a finger on the prize.
“I’m sorry,” came her mumbled apology for holding onto him. That was just a second alternative, most of the villagers were also very unlikely to do anything harmful to someone so close to one of their own. Although, as a child they didn’t treat Atara as much of one of them. That was all in the past now, her father had made sure of it. So while she still got the occasional judgmental look they wouldn’t harm a hair on her head.
Most of the Sheikah were all looks and glares, noting that not only was Atara here but Rigo was following close behind. Out of insecurity, she shifted slightly closer to the Yiga next to her. Not used to so many eyes on her all at once, he really did draw attention didn’t he. Thankfully, it didn’t take long before they were in front of lady Impa’s house. A lone figure drawing her attention to him and his wolf, someone she had never seen before. “Um.. are you here to see lady Impa, too?”
Zaris and Mirel
When the wolf's ears picked up two people approaching, they turned around slightly to examine them from a short distance away, sniffing the air to take in their scents. Of the two newcomers, Mirel seemed fine with the female as he cocked his head slightly in curiosity, but it was when Mirel's keen nose picked up the scent of the male, his ears instinctively pressed against the side of his head as his lips curled upwards into a snarl and the wolf assumed a defensive stance. However, as the wolf began to gently pad forwards, perhaps to prepare to lunge towards the strange-smelling young man, they felt a gloved hand gently come to rest between their ears, causing Mirel to stop dead in their tracks and seat themselves upon the grass.
"Calm yourself, Mirel."
In that instant, the young man allowed his hand to come to rest upon his hood, which he tugged back to show his head-- hair as black as a Guay's feathers, somewhat unkempt, but also tied back from the rear into a short tail of sorts, reminiscent somewhat in shape of a wolf's tail. Zaris turned around to face the pair, himself, his eyes meeting theirs-- eyes that seemed to glow in the sunlight with the color of precious amber, not much different from his lupine companion's own eyes, more than anything. With his lips curved slightly into a soft frown, he spoke once more. "To answer your question... yes. As a matter of fact, I am. As for why," Zaris grasped one of his elbows as the index and middle fingers on his other hand came to rest upon his temple. "I will admit that it's a bit odd for me to say, but to be honest... a voice came to me in a dream, telling me to come to this village in particular. I was at first coming here to resupply for my journey back to my home village, but... while I am here, I figured there would not be much harm in seeking counsel from Kakariko's elder, no?"
After answering the question directed towards him, Zaris turned slightly to face the young man that Mirel evidently found some great fault with. "I would ask that you mind the wolf-- he very much bites. I would think there's something he knows about you that I do not-- at least, not right this second."
