C.C. - Mission 2

"There was ringing in his ears, and red flashes in his eyes, each step had been like wading through tar going somewhere but nowhere at all. in a coarse voice he screamed until his throat became like sandpaper

"ORANGE!!!!, OATS!!, WHERE ARE YOU!?"

"it'd be weird for a child to be screaming from something out of a grocery  list, to a normal person such names are given simply to food and not to people, but to him it was the most precious names he could have ever yelled. those words had rung out amidst the malevolent chaos that spun around within the Colony Ship, men and women screaming for their lives and their families lives as the explosions and Gyroscopic imbalance of the ship rocked the flooring to and fro, causing many a person to tumble, fall, and collide into one another. the boy had been beaten, his arms broken and his legs trampled on by the tide of  panic that ran towards the escape hatches, his cranium smacked on the alloy walls and his spine nearly cracking from the impact of a metal safety bar as he was pushed aside by others more larger than himself, yet the boy kept screaming, calling out from the tide in hopes to find the others that matter to him. He screamed, and screamed, the pain clamping down on his larynx as tears flooded his eyes, the child in his arms cried in unison as well, protected from injury thanks to the boys own sacrifice but afflicted in fear due to the chaos. Louder and louder did the two children scream.

"CLAAAANK!!!!.. HAH.. CHo..STIIIICK!!!.... COOOOKIIIIEEEE!!!!!"""

screaming and screaming, the boy wondered if it was all in vain, as he looked towards the rushing wave of people running to the corridor behind him. all too suddenly he was pushed aside once more, falling down and slamming on the floor another time. His spine had smacked once more as a stray person from the stampede kicked him on his chin and the oncoming wave of running legs beating him till he lay on his side. he felt nothing but numbness and ringing, his heartbeat was the only real thing he could hear, his and that of the child still clinging in his arms. determined still to search for the names he held dear the boy attempted to recover from the fall, twisting his broken body to the side and get his legs to prop him up once more, and scream, scream until he could hear them scream back. yet the unforgiving chaos relented at his front, for the moment he could even speak a foot had jammed itself down the boy's throat crushing his larynx and causing the person who kicked the boy fall on his face. The person did not turn back to look at the damage he had done, believing that he had merely tripped on an obstacle, and the boy had felt the metallic taste of his own blood, choking and wheezing with his eyes blood red from the pressure. the boy felt like dying, the boy almost wished he could die, he wanted to scream but the pain, and the damage strangled his voice that he couldn't even cry. all he could do now was hear, hear the screams from the panicking colony, hear the cries of the child in his arms. tears flowed down his eyes as the bitter thoughts that he kept from creeping now found themselves amplified as he could no longer scream them away. the thoughts that they could no longer hear his voice, the thoughts that they could no longer find them or call out to them, they were trapped and here, and no one, not one of  them can find them...

... He held the child close, accepting the voices in his head, and accepting what was to be... he was to die... as was the fate he believed he had been given before he had met them... those children with their odd names.. precious names... they would all be gone..

and yet even fate would not give him the benefit of death. consigned to what he believed the inevitable, something grabbed him by his rags, and dragged him from the corridor towards the diverging crowd. a man in an engineering suit had cradled the boy in his arms, the boy whose eyes had looked as if death had grabbed its soul first, and the babe in his arms dirtied but crying as it always had. Blood had trickled from his cheek and the boys face had turned blue from losing so much oxygen and drowning from the blood in his lungs, and as the man who cradled him noticed this, he quickly rammed through the crowd to deliver the child to a special medical escape hatch where a few medical officers had manned itself. the man had barked against others who used the hatch as if to get by, and gave priority to the dying boy in his arms. hands passed from the engineering man towards the medic who had placed the boy in a medical stasis module along with the child in his hands. the stasis module and the nanites got to work in preserving the child from further harm, and beginning repairs from the severe damage the boy had suffered

The boy could hear the screams amidst his brains own numbness, his eyes rolling about lost until it fixated on the man who had carried him inside the hatch. quickly he could see the hatch doors close like an aperture, hydraulics fizzing and re pressurizing the hatch and soon the screams of chaotic waters  were silenced, leaving only the ringing in his ears and the calm yet anxious voice of a person telling him

"Your all okay now.."

he wished to talk, his mouth had opened, and he could feel his lungs clearing itself away.... he wanted to talk... his mouth was open and the air was flowing out of it... he wanted to talk... yet all he could do was cry, all he could muster was a breath, and a mum of the consonants in his sentence.... all he could do was cry, that's all he could do now. and the thought of it scared him.... he wanted to cry, to speak, to wail... to scream... but he cant scream... he couldn't scream... not anymore....

"GASP!!' HA!! haaa....."

Simon had woken up from the feverish nightmare he experienced in his sleep. images and thoughts he had hoped were flushed out from his memory playing themselves back on him as if punishing him with his past. the experience was still fresh in his heart, a cold sweat, a beating chest, he didn't notice the situation he was in, bound up and tied in front of ome oddly dressed men. teh situation was odd enough that he kept himself from refreshing back to the dream focusing on everyone else around him.

beside him had been Alerius, and further was Redman.. thats all he could tell.. and where they where... he didnt know.

"W-here am i.. who... what... whats going on... where is Shina?"

" Prison

" You guys are alright!" cried Hikaru flinging herself forward to tightly hug Shina and the guys.

"Simon-san, Shina's right here." she added clapping the ranger by the cheeks and twisting his head to see her.

Then her thoughts dwelled to Sora who had no idea what was happening inside. They had disabled their comms so that they couldn't be tracked until it was switched on and they were broadcasting again. The plan was for Hikaru to find out as much as she could then come out at the end of her shift.

She didn't trust these people. Not yet. Not until they've hacked their database and dug up their secrets, so she didn't mention Sora. She just hoped that they wouldn't do anything that would make him start shooting people.

"Gomenasai." Hikaru bowed deeply to the leader of the Reborn. " I hurt one of your soldiers to get her suit. She's in crate 684 behind barracks 2. I think she's suffocating right now." she said somberly.

Kashmir nodded in agreement. He scratched his beard a bit not seeming to phased by the others who all were in this to originally kill him. Or the formal man in the black suit. "Yes the lake is over 22 miles long, the 100 yard guardian known as the Greyhorn swims with more than enough space in Lake Batoo. He has no problem in it." He continued on with his story. "Your original purpose here was to eliminate the rogue behind the mask. That rogue was eliminated by myself almost a year ago. And although I do admit I hacked your frequencies to know the true reason why you are here, I did not want you guys to kill any of our men. So I pardon for the extremely odd way of bringing you guys here but I figured it was the only way to get you all in one room able to listen peacefully without a weapon to lead the conversation." He spoke. He acknowledged Simons note of Shinas location. He was still the slowest to recover from the dart though. "Disorientation is common from the venom in the darts. Its taken from a fish inside lake Batoo. makes you pass out to say it in a nutshell."

Shina listened intently he did seem to act a bit unorthodox. Considering that the squad was sent out to kill him she could understand why he was so paranoid about allowing weapons near him but that didn't explain why he had to kidnap here. "Why did you capture me then?"

He sighed and replied. "Your eyes don't work when your sleeping."

Shina shook a bit at the fact he knew about her bioptics. They must have heard that when they were on the radio conversations. Shina was still unsure just like Redmann. But redmann replied as well. "So you just expect us to believe all this?" He said watching Hikaru bow toward Kashmir.

"Kashmir shook his head. " I do not, I expect you to actually leave and hopefully leave us at peace and hopefully our research will allow more people to live here freed from the confinements of suits and giant bubbles." he sighed. "Of course I will escort you off the premises if you plan on leaving with a sneak attack from your friend whose still out there." He said knowing about the other spy inside. "Please understand if I were planning something I would have already done it. The only thing I am hiding is my people that live here in peace to pull attention away from the rest of the world about Batoos secrets. Im sure you all have your own stories. I discovered much about myself during the time that I was here." He said. He walked over to the table grabbing a seat.

"I believe him, he doesn't seem like he would benefit by lying to us. I ran a face scan and Kashmir was supposedly dead." Shina said reffering to a rendering scan she read on his face while he was standing up talking.

"Ah yes, I am "DEAD" he said using quotes. "Otherwise people would be still searching for me to come home. I chose this new life as a Reborn. i hope you guys choose the same."

2  hours later.

After all the squad was allowed to leave the meeting quarters and allowed to get all their equipment they departed from the main hall back where they were all able to converse alone without any one discussing. He basically threw out the offer to live independent. Start their life rebuilding and learning more about the mysteries behind the lake. also along the way learning more about themselves.

"I Got my friends back at home, You guys are all I really have to trust in my life." Shina said to everyone as she adjusted her sight. They were outside the main building reunited with everyone. She did not plan on staying as tempting as it was. "Thats just me."

The others conversed.

The hair on Hikaru's nape stood on end when she learned they knew where Sora was, but felt relieved when they were all together again safe and sound in their own place.

When Sora met up with Hikaru again there were no hugs, just a meaningful nod and a "Good job." and he went off to check up on his mech before they left.

This was how it always was, Japanese men who grew up in strict upbringings weren't allowed to show emotions, so he had a hard time expressing himself. But Hikaru knew by little gestures, how is eyes spoke, and how he would slightly become more talkative when he's happy, that despite his stoic nature Sora was relieved nobody died.

Now that the job was done, the two Amber Fox soldiers now allowed themselves to have some rest and relaxation and took to swimming and leisurely floating on the lake, while playing with the water guardian.

the day proceeded with the new group they had just met. THey were enjoying the last of the beautiful waters in the lake known as Batoo. to think how surreal it was to be a part of something greater than even the canines knew. Maybe one day they would be able to build a small town here. As long as they kept the pollution down to a minimum. It was so elegant to see the greyhorn swim and say hello. It was massive, so large and to think he was protecting the lake he was raised in. Perhaps this large lake had another in it they have yet to see. shina swam up to Redman who was also in the waters as well. "Think this is all legit?" She asked

He turned around his red beard soaked. "I wouldnt want to think it was all a lie. But to think they have been here all this time theres a reason we were sent to kill them. Perhaps L just didnt know excactly what was going on here."

"Did you report back to him?'

"I did I informed him that the lake was abandonned and deleted the camera footage before sending it to him so it just showed the lake. Im covering for them as well as the U.S. army but its all to be done for the greater good. These people are trying to help." He said before getting out of the water.

THe team said their goodbyes. They decided not to stay rather than to check up every once in a while to see how everyone was out here. Kashmir turned out to be much nicer than expected giving them a parting gift of a private radio to give calls out to him. As long as they kept it hidden. And by they meaning redmann.

They suited up before departing after their last day there. The lake vanished in the background as they flew across and over the mountain faces. The lake did more than just teach them about their pasts. Redmann learned more about the world he was in and the faces these people took on to cover something far greater than them. Hikaru and the others followed close formation. The lake tended to make his past render so much more realistic. Much more vivid than any dream he had ever had. Like his memory was much more solid.

Shina followed right behind. She never thought about herself the way she did when she was at Lake Batoo. The place had a permanent etch of stone engraved in her heart and head for the rest of her life. Something she would always be able to remember.
