The Chocobo Champion
Excerpt from the Book of the Crystals

In the beginning, there had always been two beings: Nouvellen, the God of Light and Life; and Finnell, the Goddess of Darkness and Death. They are known as the Eternal Beings. Through their union the universe was created, and through their existence it is maintained. Eventually, the Eternal Beings gave birth to three children.

The first was Feurey, the god of Heat and Flames. He was a rebellious child, and was prone to ‘accidentally’ destroying things his parents would create. In time, he would learn to control his power.

The second child was Rivienne, The goddess of water. At first, the goddess was quite subconscious about her lack of power compared to her parents and elder brother, but Nouvellen promised she would one day discover her true strength.

The third child was Ventin. A cold and calculated god of the wind and sky. He cared little for his siblings, but even less so for his parents. He would soon find just how important it was to care for his family.

The Elemental Children came together to make a creation of their own. This creation became known as Lunacresta. The Children then created humanity. Humans were weak and frail, but multiplied and adapted quickly. They were quite entertaining to watch as well. However, Feurey had other plans for the humans besides simple entertainment...

War...

The Elemental Children sought the Eternal Beings’ powers. Together with humanity they battled for eons, in a conflict known as the Ancient War. Slowly but surely the Elder Beings gained the upper hand, preparing to crush their children and humanity. It seemed that they were completely invincible, and that all hope was lost. However, a group of humans known as the Warriors of Light emerged. Together with the Elemental Children, they were able to subdue Nouvellen and Finnell. The Eternal Beings had their power split apart, and sealed within three unbreakable crystals.

In the fallout of the Ancient War, monsters began to rise across Lunacresta, slaughtering any human they came across. The Elemental Children gathered the remaining humans on a single continent, and with the three crystals, formed a barrier of magical energy around the continent. This energy prevents monsters from entering, but allowed humans to pass through. It was this barrier that was the Elemental Childrens’ gift to humanity for battling alongside them.

—————

Since the final battle of the Ancient War, humanity has not made contact with the Eternal Children. All they have left is the Book of the Crystals, and the teaching of various religious orders. It wasn’t long after that humanity entered into a war of their own, fighting over land and resources, or even the right to the crystals. This became known as the Cycle of Conflict.

——————————

The following timeline contains the truth of the universe. However, not all information is clear and concise. Some say that memories were altered to hide the truth from humanity, but there is no living evidence to support this theory.

This information is not known IC.

BC = Before Crystals
AC = After Crystals

X BC - The Beginning - The two Eternal Beings, Nouvellen and Finnell form a union, and through their love the universe and the four Elemental Children are created.

X BC - The First Betrayal - The Elemental Children rebel against their creators, marking the first conflict in the history of the universe. Evil begins to enter the universe as negative feelings are felt for the first time.

19,057 BC - Humanity’s Purpose - The Elemental Children create the human race to help them defeat the Eternal Beings. The tide turns in favor of humanity and the Elemental Children. However, the Elemental Children begin to battle amongst themselves.

2020 BC - Forgotten - One of the Elemental Children and their human followers are branded traitors and banished to the edges of the universe.

100 BC - Lunacresta - The War of the Gods comes to an end. The planet Lunacresta is created for humanity to live on at the cost of their free will.

1 BC - Rise of Evil - Physical concentrations of evil begin to emerge across Lunacresta in the form of horrific monsters. To combat this, the three crystals are created through supernatural means. Together, the three crystals keep Lunacresta free from evil.

0 AC - Harmony - Lunacresta becomes a world of perfect peace. Humanity lives without fear, without pain, and without hope. Humans start to learn how to perform magic. Different lands perform it in different ways, but they all claim their magic comes from the crystal’s power. Enormous cities are built and the population grows rapidly. Under the watchful eye of the World Order, all is well.

4107 AC - The Human Rebellion - Peace is broken. Four humans who call themselves the ‘Warriors of Light’ rebel against the World Order. “Awaken your souls! Peace without hope is slavery! Put your faith in one another and we will thrive!” They gain many followers, and war begins anew as humanity struggle to find their purpose in the universe.

4108 AC - Agym - Monsters once again begin to appear on Lunacresta in remote areas. A mysterious disease infects large populations of people, turning their blood and skin a dark purplish color before forcing their organs to crush and consume themselves. This disease became known as Agym.

4123 AC - Death of the Light - The Warrior’s of Light are killed in battle against the World Order. Their bodies are mutilated before being put on public display. Their bodies however soon dissipate of crystalline dust, never to be seen again. Their followers are treated as criminals, and are killed on sight.

4133 AC - Life After Death - The teachings of the Warriors of Light have spread quickly by the remaining followers, enticing a full blown coup. The World Order of Lunacresta begins to crumble. Monsters now threaten humanity’s way of life. Agym runs rampant across Lunacresta. Victims of the disease are said to have been spotted coming back to life and killing their families.

4140 AC - All Out War - The war against monsters has begun. Armed with the hope left for them by the Warriors of Light, humanity fights for their lives as they must protect themselves from monsters as well as disease in a world without the World Order.

4141 AC - No Hope - Dark portals appear across Lunacresta and release legions horrific monsters. The origin of these portals is unknown, but they always appear just when humanity comes close to a victory.

4203 AC - The End - Only a small fraction of humanity remains. Forced to abandon the crystals, they retreat to a small continent unattached to the others for their last stand.

4205 AC - The Voice - An ethereal being claiming to be a servant of the Elemental Children arrives on Lunacresta. They use their power to bring all three crystals to the remaining humans to form a massive magical barrier around the continent keeping the monsters out. Humanity is finally safe. But their savior disappears. No one seems to be able to recall exactly what happened that saved them. The only thing they could all agree on is a beautiful woman’s voice telling them that one day they would take back their world.

4215 AC - Division - The humans have split off into three groups, each claiming ownership of one of the crystals. They begin growing their own nations in hopes that they can make life within the barrier wonderful. Each has their own spin on what happened to save humanity. This all comes together to form the Book of the Crystal. The author is unknown, and left out any mention of ‘The Voice’. The history of the world before the crystals is slowly forgotten.

4256 AC - The Cycle of Conflict - The Kingdom of Rivienne goes to war with the Clans of Feurey over territory disputes. Each side tries to recruit the Kingdom of Ventin to their side but instead drags them into a three way war that would last for centuries.

5001 AC - Present Day - All For Nothing - The rulers of each nation come together to finally form peace for Lunacresta. They meet in the Kingdom of Ventin to sign the treaty. A portal opens in the Kingdom of Ventin, releasing legions of horrific monsters into humanities sanctuary. Now, humanity is once again faced with extinction.

The Kingdom of Rivienne

Within the Grand Desert lies Grenouille, the capital of the Rivienne Kingdom. The city is built around the largest oasis in the in desert, with the king’s palace having been built directly above it. The capital is well protected by its high walls and elite guards, and is rich off the profits from mining operations and controlled water distribution. Other cities and villages in the kingdom however, are far worse off. Those without their own water source are forced to rely of inconsistent supplies from other cities. As a result, most of the kingdom outside of the capital is terribly poor and vulnerable. Beneath the kingdom is a vast network of tunnels. In this network lies a great underground river. This river is the lifeblood of the kingdom, and provides the capital city with the great oasis it is so proud of. It is said that this river leads to the heart of the Goddess Rivienne herself.

With the loss of the king, the Church of Dieux has taken over. Having been incredibly influential before, they now make every decision that the king make. They believe that the plague of monsters is due to the three kingdoms not living up to the standards of the gods. And so, the church wishes to unite the two remaining kingdoms under a strict religious rule. Whether the kingdom’s nobility supports this or not is irrelevant, as they haven't the power to oppose the church. Most citizens of the Rivienne Kingdom worship the Elemental Children. Very few worship the Eternal Beings, and if they do, it is in secrecy. The Church of Dieux is absurdly strict in their laws and teachings, having no tolerance for any other beliefs aside from their own.

The Land of Feurey

The Land of Feurey is home to massive a forest where the trees reach to the skies, and animals roam abundantly. Towns and villages are built in the few open areas within the forests, and along the coasts. The most populated city in this region is next to the mysterious Lake of Rage, where it is said the Elemental Child, Feurey, once crashed into Lunacresta. The coastal cities are primarily fishing cities. One can make great money fishing at sea. With the incoming refugees from the north, the need for food is at an all time high. However, pirates are a common danger at sea. The more fisherman there are, the more targets they have.

The Clans of Feurey primarily worship the Elemental Children. Very few worship the Eternal Beings, but those that do are never apart of the Crane clan, who leads religious instruction throughout the nation. The people of Feurey are not very united, and have a variety of cultures within their lands. Even when a foreign foe threatens their livlihoods, they have trouble putting their differences aside.

The Three Clans:

Crane: The Crane Clan is commonly the keepers of shrines and temples. They are well versed in healing magic, and are the keepers of Feurey’s Crystal. They keep such places safe with their strong and disciplined samurai. Anything concerning the protection of the crystal generally falls under their jurisdiction.

Tiger: The Tiger Clan is the powerhouse of this nation. With the biggest family, they normally call the shots. They’re well known for their naval prowess, and tendency to take more loot that they can carry. You’ll find members of this clan leading the charge into battle more often than not, or battling pirates at sea.

Rat: No one really knows exactly where the Rat Clan is at, but they usually find you before you can find them. They handle the dirty under-the-table action, and are excellent spies. Many practitioners of dark magic are also apart of this clan. Their famous phrase is: "Steal from kin or kind and off comes your behind."

—————

The Kingdom of Ventin

As you travel farther North not only will the population drop, the temperature will fall dangerously. Before you know it, the temperate grassland becomes frozen mountains, where nature has no mercy. As a result, villages are few and far between. The Kingdom of Ventin grew strong and resilient due to these challenges. Those who don't live near Castle Noire live in small villages that are few and far between. Their isolation made the people self sufficient, and thankful for everything they can get. The king’s castle, Castle Noire, was erected deep in the mountains, where no army had ever reached, and where the weather is the harshest. After the Tragedy in the North, the Army of Darkness has taken up residence in Castle Noire, and the kingdom of ventin is no more. All that's left are those who were far enough away from the tragedy to be killed. They flee to the south in hopes to escape the oncoming wave of death.

The Army of Darkness

Not much is known about the Army of Darkness, but rumors say their ranks are made up of otherworldly monsters, reanimated corpses, and horrifying beasts. With each passing day the Army of Darkness spreads farther South, seeking out the remaining two kingdoms. It won’t be long before the rest of Lunacresta learns the true might of this 'army', and how big of a threat they truly pose.

Important Individuals

  • King Jerald Grivois
    591134
    Class: Knight
The deceased ruler of the Rivienne Kingdom. King Grivois was very young when he took the throne. Throughout his rule he had many wives. His first wife was taken by disease, the second was poisoned, and the third was stabbed. The king from then on refused to take another wife. However, this didn’t stop him from laying with many women, and as a result having many children. He always asked if his children wanted to live with him in the royal palace, if they rejected his offer, he would pretend they didn’t exist. Died during the Northern Catastrophe.

The Army of Darkness

Grimlins

The smallest and weakest monsters of the Army of Darkness are the Grimlins. Despite being a humanoid monster they have long pointy ears and huge empty black eyes. Their skin colors vary all from dark blue to bright purple. They’re around the height of a small child and attack with their teeth and claws. Despite their size they always attacks in large groups to try and overwhelm their targets. Beyond that their intelligence seems limited.

Counter Combat Strategy: Have magic users perform weak spells that cover broad areas. This will thin their numbers enough so that the threat they pose is insignificant.
Kerlets

These swift packs of quadrupedal beasts are slightly shorter than a camel, but a couple feet longer. Their head is large with strong jaws that are almost made to crush armor. They’re backs and faces are protected by hard bone like structures that will protect them from the average blade and arrow. Nonetheless, their bellies and legs are not well protected. Whether or not they are vulnerable to a specific type of magic is yet to be discovered.

Counter Combat Strategy: Until more are encountered in combat, we have no solidified plan to deal with these beasts. Until then, aim for their bellies and watch your back.
The Black Dragon

Although this is simply a rumor, some people have reported seeing a massive bird like creature flying far out beyond the sea. Ex-pirates have even claimed to have seen the dragon up close.

Counter Combat Strategy: As the existence of this monster is not confirmed, we cannot form solid counter-measures.
???

More to be discovered...

Beasts of Lunacresta

Guyai Bagars
These huge mammals are blind and rely on other senses. They have a keen sense of hearing and smelling that allows them to chase down their prey. Their bulk is able to knock down a tree if its in the way and their hide is as hard as stones. Deadly claws can cut down most things in its path. Their claws are highly valued due to their sharpness. However obtaining it perfect condition is hard. When the claws are removed from the Bagar's they seem to degrade very quickly. Nonethenless degraded claws are still deadly.
Ballistic Chicken
On the contrary, the Ballistic Chicken isn't a chicken. It's more of a raptor with wings that have very few feathers. They're flightless birds with very sharp teeth. Fast on foot, they seem to excel in the speed department. However once you get them angry, they'll run twice as fast than before. Some say that the flightless chicken can actually fly in this state of rage.
Drearui
These small mammals are often sleeping on top of trees. They don't seem to eat anything in their deep slumber. While slumbering, they emit a gas that makes people sleepy of forgetful.
Acorl

Small dolphins that can live happily on land. They are generally very friendly to humans and don't mind being pet. However if you upset one they're as gone as the wind. They live under a monarchy system where there is a queen Acorl. If the queen Acorl is endangered, it is said that a mighty beast of the ocean will appear to defend her.
Dream Kraken
The Dream Kraken lives on land unlike its smaller and harmless aquatic counterpart. It emits a fog that makes its victims forget where they are. Seducing them into a wonderful dream, the kraken goes over and eats its prey before it can recover from its dream inducing fog. The more the Dream kraken eats the stronger it becomes and the farther its fog extends. The Dream Kraken was last seen in the Kingdom on Ventin.
Horicorn
A type of unicorn that has been domesticated by humans. Their relatives, the unicorns, are either extinct or very close to extinction due to hunters chasing them after their horns. They have evolved to where they depend on humans for protection. Horicorn have a sense that allows them to know whether or not a human is worthy of their trust. It doesn't matter how good or bad they are, as long as they protect them. Their horns are able to be regrown unlike other unicorns. While not as effective as their relatives, they're still useful regardless. These beasts most commonly found in the Kingdom of Ventin.
Kalard Vaipar
It's a snake that has the ability to change it's colors to match its surroundings. They're very hard to spot because of this. Due to their ability of their skin, they're often sought out for and hunted. Unfortunately, the Kalard Vaipar is very intelligent and has a slow acting poison to those it bites. It's size varies but there is a legendary Kalard Vaipar that is said to live in the mountains and is able to eat the entirety of Lunacresta.

Paopoto

8784123826903549f3ec2aff44027026.jpg

Common Name:
Paopoto
Dietary Requirements:
Insectivore, Particularly fond of Fireflies
Height Range:
5-7(inch) in length
Weight Range:
4.3(oz)
Age:
Usually live for 2-3 years in captivity. Due to predation live 1- 1 1/2 years in the wild.
Habitat:
Paopoto typically live in small brush and trees around ponds and tall-grass. This comes predominately due to the location of their food-source. Along with this they tend to favor warm climates, but can easily thrive in any locale where insects are available.
Behaviors:
Paopoto are a very common sight in many forests and grasslands, typically they're seen relaxing in trees or bushes while not inflated. Their forms somewhat lithe, being slightly thinner than their head, though their tails remain fluffed out consistently. Usually they'll be located as sleeping during the day, as they are a predominately nocturnal species. During the night they have a special technique for hunting their prey, the blue patches on their fur are actually charged with Luciferin allowing for them to light up at different times. The light they let off has a few different chroma's it can take on. Pink, White, Blue/Teal, and Yellow. Most of these are meant to express emotions, attract mates, or imprint on children. The latter of these, yellow, is meant for attracting prey. They consume this prey by inhaling sharply and sucking the firefly into their mouth. Much in the same way, they inhale air and inflate their bodies in this way. Through some reaction in their bodies, they are capable of floating like this. Because of this they inflate during their mating season, late in fall, and allow the wind to assist them in a mass migration to a forest which they all somehow know the way to. Afterwards they will float back to their homes, expelling air as they move to land.

In the events that they do settle down for the night, after eating their fill, they will release a yawn that removes the excess air from their inflatable sac. This then allows for them to settle down for rest until the following night.
Ecology:
Paopoto rest quite low on the food chain, and are commonly preyed on by birds and other small predators. They rest just above insects, roughly in the same category as a squirrel might. In their condition they are relatively incapable of defending themselves, but due to the amount of offspring they produce they still continue to thrive.
Pikonan

af61e0e1cc7efab730196edcea02cb7b.jpg

Common Name:
Pikonan
Dietary Requirements:
Herbivore, Prefers seeds
Height Range:
9.1-9.8(inch)
Weight Range:
7.9-9.9(lbs)
Age:
Typically live 1-2 years
Habitat:
These creatures are common in forests, tropical environments, and large cities.
Behaviors:
Commonly these creatures leap between tree-tops and call to one another using the air-sacs on either side of their head. They don't fight often but can manage to escape a decent amount of the time. However, they're common in cities abundant with open-air markets. This allows for them to steal fruits and seeds from vendors, along with this they make for excellent pick-pockets. For a weary traveler they may crawl around them and make off with a few coin, or possibly even an item they could carry.

Highly attracted to shiny objects, and will communicate the location of these with their fellow Pikonan through the sounds amplified from their head-sacs.
Ecology:
Pikonan sit as easy targets for most predators, they're commonly hidden in trees so they fall victim to serpent and avians more often than not. But when some venture to the ground below they can easily fall victim to a plethora of predators on the forest floor.
Swathebounder

Equus Quaestio
buckskin_saddle__by_notesz_dce1hz6-fullview.jpg

Common Name:
Swathebounder
Dietary Requirements:
Omnivore, Pretty much eat anything you put before them. Requires multiple pounds of food daily.
Height Range:
(0) 4.7-6(ft) on all-fours. 7.2-8.3(ft) on hind-legs.
(1) 5.4-6.5(ft) on all-fours. 7.6-8.10(ft) on hind-legs.
(2) 3.2-4.9(ft) on all-fours. 5.11-6 (ft) on hind-legs
Weight Range:
(0) 900-2300lbs
(1) 1000-3000lbs
(2) 600-800lbs
Age:
25-40 years
Habitat:
Swathebounders aren't found in the wild, outside of ones that have been abandoned by their riders, and are almost constantly kept as mounts or meant to drag carts. Therefore they usually inhabit ranches, farms, or other human livestock settlements. They are most commonly found in the North, having become the staple mount for The Kingdom of Ventin's Calvary.
Behaviors:
Swathebounders act as a more vicious 'horse', one that will work well as a combative mount or merely for a transportation purpose. Originally they came from the breeding between a horse that had been infected by a strange disease, and a normal warhorse. The child came out deformed, and yet the rancher in charge of it continued to breed it upwards. This species would soon come out as a somewhat infamous war-mount. They act fiercely loyal towards their trainers, and when sold they can be a bit of a challenge to break in. There have been very few reports of them eating their rider, however if they fall in combat it's not unheard of. Their eating habits are especially sloppy, and if denied their required rations they may get ornery and attempt to hunt anything smaller than themselves. Humans are typically excluded from this, until the third day of not being fed.

Swathebounders are most notable for their diversity, after their introduction onto the market many roles have opened for them. They're capable of running at 55mph (88km/h) for upwards of an hour. When drawing a carriage, a pair of Draft Swathebounders could keep at a pace of 40mph (64km/h). The claws which have replaced their hooves are capable of lacerating flesh with relative ease, however their biting is only mildly stronger than that of your average horse. In the event of being kicked by one of these, you're more than likely to loose your life.
Ecology:
Given that they don't appear in the wild, Swathebounders are an enigma to the wilds, instead they act as a human-introduced species. Serving side-by-side with humanity, aiding them in whatever may be required of them.
Subspecies:
Common (0)
Draft (1)
Miniature (2)
Massosuchus

Crocodylus Latus
3a641ee934a4eceece99bf91d7f552f5.jpg

Common Name:
Massosuchus
Dietary Requirements:
Carnivore
Height Range:
Length of 6m, Height of 3m
Weight Range:
4,000-5,500lbs
Age:
The oldest has been recorded at 200 years of age.
Habitat:
The Massosuchus is known for inhabiting a few locales, most of these are grasslands/Savannah locations. Alongside this they have been seen wandering around the desert in search of prey. Their color scheme reflects their locations as well, and typically where you see one- there will almost always be a body of water within a few miles vicinity.
Behaviors:
Massosuchus are known for being hulking beasts that are far faster than a creature their size has any right to be. Their hides are thick enough to withstand arrows, and tough enough give blades a run for their money. These creatures are territorial to a fault, willing to chase anything that it considers a threat away. Territorial fights are common between beings of the same species, so scarring is common, though it's unlikely that a being would stumble across a territorial male. The males of the species are considered the "Wanderers" in the female dominated species, the only time they truly are allowed to stay on the territory is during the heat of mating season. Once the eggs have been laid they will be threatened out, and if they refuse to leave killed. The ferocity of these large crocodilian's in land or water is terrifying, and given that they can keep pace with a horse-drawn carriage it makes them even more fearsome. It's unknown if this species can be domesticated or not, many assume not. A few have tried, if any success has been had it was left undocumented as the mother likely ate the foolish human before they could escape with the egg.

Massosuchus are most notable for their tank-like tendencies, capable of running at 35mph (56km/h) for upwards of five minutes. Their jaws are capable of crushing through steel armor and making it appear similar to paper mache in it's jaws. It's bite force would roughly measure out to 7650psi if the world had the means of which to measure it. Outside of it's imposing physique, it lacks any special capabilities. It's fangs, bones, scales, or hide could all fetch a fairly decent price to the right buyer.
Ecology:
Massosuchus is an apex predator in it's domain, the only thing that could dare combat it would be humanity, another apex, or other Massosuchus. Creatures smaller, and sometimes larger if food is scarce, may attempt to fight back to no prevail. As such they rest at the top as a beast to keep overpopulation from rearing it's ugly head.
Strixateph

Thetastrix Acribus
6d6ec6c715ebcf150e73577b7be9e8a0.jpg

Common Name:
Strix, Strix Birds, Strixateph
Dietary Requirements:
Carnivorous, As a smaller avian they predominately prey on small mammalians and rodents. In adulthood is is common for the Strix to prey on large ungulates.
Height Range:
As young (Strix) 12-16inch, As adults (Strixateph) 5"5-6"3ft.
Weight Range:
As young (Strix) 6.3-15.3oz, As adults (Strixateph) 150-230lbs
Age:
Supposedly live as old as 40 years. However, no fully developed Strix have been sighted- leaving new estimates to 6-10 years.
Habitat:
Strix/Strixateph tend to live in unpopulated locales, seeking out homes untouched by humanity. As such ancient forests and untouched mountain ranges become common locations for these birds to nest and make themselves at home. Due to being somewhat far from food-sources they are willing to travels miles before finding something to hunt down with elegance.
Behaviors:
The Strixateph as a species are something of an enigma, they were at one point present in abundance. But ever since the emergence of the original "Warriors of Light" they have become few and far between. It's believed that over-hunting or perhaps introduction of habitat destruction drove them into near extinction. This is not entirely the case, the number of Strix(ateph) have severely dipped since the strengthening of human civilizations, but they've evolved a new technique to avoid this harm. In their youth Strix have a special compound in their feathers which hides them from natural vision, sound and disturbances to the world around them remain present but they can fly like this for hours a day. This invisibility in their youth, along with reaching sexual maturity at a much younger age, has allowed for the species to keep clutching at their current lifestyle. Upon reaching adulthood this invisibility fades in trade for a much more majestic appearance. In this new form they resemble a mythical bird known as a phoenix, and were believed to one-time be used as hunting companions. As of the past two to three millennia there have been no registration of a domesticated creature of the Strix origin.

The adult version of the Strixateph species is believed to be capable of reaching 300mph (482km/h) when diving, supposedly flying naturally at 85mph (136km/h). Their claws and beak are recalled to be as sharp as a honed iron blade. Though when it comes to human deaths to this species, it usually comes out of no-where. Supposedly after the creature dives and swoops an unfortunate soul up in their talons it flies sky-bound before releasing their bodies to meet with the cruel force of gravity.
Ecology:
Given the current state of their lifestyle, it's difficult to truly pin where the Strixateph species fit into the world's ecology. They are undoubtedly a predator and allow for regulation on mammalian/rodent populations, beyond this there isn't enough information to credit them with.
