Within the hallowed walls of the castle of the Kingdom of Milikor, everyone was buzzing about in quite the hurry. A ball was being held in honor of the king and queen, and as such last minute preparations were needed to be made. The only ones that didn't seem to be as concerned over things were the royal couple themselves as they were somewhere off in the gardens. They were enjoying the last bits of daylight and the way it settled against the flowers so beautifully. It was serene and peaceful, unlike the kitchen or the halls right outside the ballroom. Servants were going in and out to make sure that everything was spotless and the chairs for the musicians were in just the right spot. Candles were being lit and lined the walls while the chandelier that adorned the center was polished. All of the maids and servants of the castle seemed to be content with their work, even if it seemed cut out for them. All but one that was stuck with a certain princess that didn't like to sit still.

The maid that was trying to tie up the child's corset was trying hard not to get annoyed with Neva as she bounced a little in excitement. It had been an hour since the maid had started working on getting Neva into her dress; a long hour of clearing her throat and staring a certain way to get the girl's attention. It wasn't so much that she wasn't used to going to balls -as she and her sister had gone to them before- but it was more the dressing up that was rather fun. She just couldn't seem to sit still long enough for the maid to finish. With an aggravated sigh, the older woman sent a glare Neva's way that was enough to cause the young girl to freeze. She stayed that way long enough for the maid to finish tying the last of the corset and waved her hand dismissively. The dress that Neva was adorned in was a simplistic one that was dark blue and seemed to off set her unnaturally natural blue hair.

"Kendra, Kendra!" Neva called her sister's name rather quickly as she jumped off of the stool she had been standing on. The maid that had been working on her left with the bits of flowers and jewelry that hadn't been needed, leaving the two girls and the other maid that was working on Kendra left. There was still plenty of time before their parents came to get them for the ball. "Hurry, I want to show you something before we have to go." Neva started circling around the other maid as she worked, eliciting a small sigh from the woman. Of course, it went unnoticed by the child as she was instead thinking about the best thing she could show her sister. It had to be something small and certainly not something they'd be able to bring with them. Maybe a bird...no, a flower. She nodded her head a little as she settled on a flower, not even paying attention to whether the maid was hurrying or not at this point.

Kendra

Everyone in the palace was busy putting the final touches on everything. Perfection was everything, at least to everyone else. Kendra spent her time writing the whole day until the maid had bustled in demanding it was time to get ready. The bubbly personality she has had bought her more time to finish the chapter she was on, hence why she wasn’t as far long as her sister. That and her energetic disposition kept her jittering around on her stool as she swished around her skirt, watching it flow through the air. The maid preparing her for the ball was more lenient and patience with the girls and she just took her time lacing up the corset, despite the inconveniences Kendra was causing.

“What?” she answered her sister, looking at her through the mirror? Giggling she could hear the frustrated sigh from the maid as her sister urged them to hurry. Kendra’s dress was a pale blue like the sky. It was a bit less simplistic as her sisters with embroidering at the end of the skirt in a gold yellow. Her pale blonde hair was curled, had been pulled to a side pony, with a French braid from the other side of wrapping around and ending when it joined the pony tail. A gold Tiara had been pinned in to her hair. The final touch was some blush applied to the apples of her cheeks and then she was set free.

“What do you need to show me?” Kendra stepped off the platform in a hurry, bouncing with excitement. It was always exciting when Neva had something to show her. “Is it pretty?” Playing the waiting game was never her strong suit and she didn’t give her sister anytime to respond before continuing. “What is it? What is it?” she questioned as she ran up to her sister, grabbing her hand. It was one of her favorite things to do. The remaining maid cleaned up any reaming jewelry Kendra snubbed and placed went off to return it to jewelry box her mother kept it in.

Neva

Neva paused when she felt her small, golden tiara falling out of the hair that the maid had chosen not to pin. She quickly pushed it back up and twirled around to grin at her sister. "Not need, want." She said in a teasing manner, quite excited to be able to show her. It wasn't often that she was able to do something like this but she was sure she could do it now. More so because she wanted to show her sister something pretty. As if on que, Kendra asked if it was and ended up causing Neva to laugh quietly. "Maybe." Neva once again twirled in contentment, lifting the bottom of the dress to keep from stepping on it as she did so. When she finally figured Kendra had waited long enough, glanced down at their entwined hands and smiled brightly.

"It's something I'm going to make for you. Here." Neva brought up their hands and shifted them slightly so that she was holding her sister's with their palms up. "Keep your hand steady." Neva looked up at Kendra then to her hand then back up again. She was just so excited that for a moment she forgot how to start. Taking a small breath, she covered Kendra's hand with her own and started concentrating fairly hard. The smile didn't once leave on her face the whole time as her eyes never left their hands. She wasn't sure how it happened -or even how she could do such a thing in the first place- but after a couple minutes of silence, Neva pulled back her hand slowly. In Kendra's hand was a small, intricate rose in bloom with a tiny stem; it was made of a thin ice and was a bit cold to the touch. But the moment that Neva looked up to her sister quietly and lost concentration, the flower started to melt in the heat of Kendra's hand. Neva started to panic and even as she tried to concentrate once again to keep it, she couldn't stop it from melting.

"Oh no." A deep pout spread across Neva's face followed by a look of sorrow. "I'm sorry, Kendra." The little girl glanced up at her sister again before looking down to the side in disappointment. "I was trying to give you something pretty to give us luck for tonight. Luck in finding fun anyway but I guess I'm no good at that sort of thing."

Kendra

“Come on!” she begged, rolling her eyes at her sister’s correction. The anticipation was driving Kendra bonkers, but she was use to her sister putzing around, forcing her to wait. “Neeeva!” she whined, stomping her feet before her sister shifted their hands and took hers. Eyes widened as she watched her sister concentrate. It was subtle, but slowly coolness formed in her hand, it grew as her sister continued. It felt like a trinket was forming. Eyes darted up to look at her sister than back down for the reveal. There in the palm of her hand was little rose ice sculpture. Kendra gasped in astonishment.

“It is soo beautiful” she complimented with a huge smile as she looked back at her sister. It soon turned into a little cold puddle in her hands soon after. A small pouty face was formed, but it disappeared as soon as Neva spoke up again. “You’ll get better.” Kendra squeezed her hand, for reassurance. “We always find something fun.” Devious little ideas on how to steal a plate of sweets and sneak off to the garden had come to mind. Once the dancing started it usually became pretty boring for the two of them, a few dances with their father and mother, and then they were left to their own. Well, they were left to mingle, but listening to stuffy old people grew boring rather quickly.

“Let’s steal a plate of chocolates when no one is looking.” she suggested, attempt to cheer her sister. Kendra figured her sister knew they would disappear to the gardens after successfully pulling off the theft from cooks. That was there normal ploy when they wanted to get away. “I can help you practice a bit. Perhaps, you could teach me.” she added, liking the plan more and more as she added to it.

“Girls, ready?” their mother asked, poking her head into to the door. It wasn’t really a question, just a polite way to get their attention. Kendra nodded, but she wasn’t going to move without her sister. When both of them were ready, they went to the ballroom. Their parents were announced first, than they entered together for the whole court to see. Everyone awed and cooed as they strolled in. Mother had reminded them twice to walk slowly as they walked down the carpet to the head table. Kendra did her best to follow through, but the public eye on them made her want to sprint down.

Neva

o5n6dl.jpg

Neva only glanced back to Kendra when she heard her sister say she would get better. Truth be told though, she was still disappointed that she couldn't keep it for very long. At least she could form solid objects now, which was more than she could do when she first discovered her powers. The pout on her face quickly grew into a smile when Kendra said they'd find something fun to do. Which they would, given how the routine was the same for every ball: dance a couple of songs with their parents and then spend time with people that liked to talk big. Which meant time to sneak off really. So the idea of stealing a plate of chocolate caused Neva's smile to turn into a devious little grin as she quickly nodded her head.

"They'd never know anyway since they put out so much food anyway." Neva said with a chuckle, already imaging how they would grab and make a run for the gardens like always. Not that they couldn't be found easily but at least as it grew darker, it would be harder for them to be brought back to the boring party. "Of course I'll teach you, we both should practice more. Though I don't really know much about it right now since I just...think about it. And-" she paused when she heard their mother's voice and turned towards the door. It was rather disappointing that they didn't have more time to talk but they would once they got to the gardens. Especially since they could actually practice in peace there. She glanced to Kendra and gave the girl a nod of her head before walking out hand in hand. The two were practically inseparable and the whole of the kingdom likely knew it. The walk to the ballroom went rather quickly and as their parents went in first, Neva had to bite down the urge to just run to the gardens now. After a couple moments, she and Kendra walked down the carpet after their parents along the red carpet towards the throne. Neva glanced around at all the people watching them as her hands locked behind her back.

Once they were at the thrones, their father waved his hand and the music started to play. The King and Queen were always the first to dance, which meant Neva and Kendra had to sit still like the good little girls they were. Only Neva didn't really want to as she wanted to see about making another flower. As their parents danced, Neva turned to her sister and cupped one of her hands while glancing at Kendra. The smile was still on her face as she once again concentrated a little more properly on what she was doing in her hand. Another flower, this time a lily, started to form in her hand in a thin layer of ice. As it was forming a small mist was around the flower and ghosted over her hand. "They would look pretty in your hair, Kendra. It's a pity that it doesn't stay though." Even as she spoke, the flower once again started to melt but a bit more slowly than the first. The dance was already almost over and then it would be their turn to dance with their parents for the night.

Princess Kendra

Kendra watched as the dance started, struggling to keep from bouncing her legs up and down. It was always hard to keep from fidgeting, but now so more than usual. The gardens were waiting for them, but first they’d have to get through this. Must be a twin thing because Kendra turned just as Neva did and she smiled when their hands were joined again. The familiar cold tingling sensation beginning in her hands once more. This time it was a lily in the palm of her hand. They were so pretty and she was right, they’d be beautiful hair accessories. Their parents danced had ended, so there wasn’t much time to respond. “You’re getting better.” she whispered excitedly before their parents were in earshot.

Last time Kendra danced with her father, so this time it was her mother’s turn. Not that she minded at all. Mother didn’t shy away from the lifts and twirls. Once in a while in the dance they’d exchange partners briefly and then return to their original one. One perk about mother, her strides were smaller and easier to keep up with than her fathers. Both approached the thrones, in unison. The King stepped towards Neva and the Queen was heading straight towards her.

“Come on darling” her mother urged as Kendra skipped over giving her mother a small peck on the cheek before stepping back to do a small curtsy before beginning the dance. It was full of twirls for her since she loved the way her dress would flare out as she spun. The excitement and fun blew over fast however. Their other plans still holding on as the main priority, which is why when the final bows were taken she went off with her sister at the first chance. An excuse was already in mind and it wasn’t very hard as she had excused herself for the lady’s room. However, they never made it there. It was a straight shot to the table that was filled with sweets.

“All the grownups got here first.” she pouted. There were a few chocolates left, but they were broken and dark, which a bitter taste she didn’t enjoy. A little tantrum was to be had as she flicked a nasty bit of dark cholate off the plate and somewhere into the crowd, she did not see where it had gone. The servant boy had caught her attention before he spoke, the fresh plate of chocolates. The plate was in her hands and a swirl chocolate in her mouth. “Yuum” she said, offering the plate to her sister. “Oh, you would do that? That is would be so nice. We’ll be in the garden” That was easy enough, now they could just escape off to the gardens. “Let’s go.” she urged, wanting to get away before they were spotted by their parents and sucked back into the party.

“Let’s go by the fountain in the center.” Kendra suggested between chewing the new chocolate in her mouth. This one had a chewy caramel center. There was no need to go easy on them since more were on their way. It was sort of like a maze in the gardens if you didn’t know your way around. There were little sections everywhere. Her father once told her there was a secret one just for their mother. Kendra kicked her heels off and her bare feet were exposed. The grass felt great between her toes as she walked up to the fountain plopping down on the cement surface. “Whatcha going to try to make this time?” Kendra had hiked up her skirt and stuck her feet in the water and was swishing them around.

Finn Kreger

One chocolate missing would go unnoticed. Finn learned that a while back. The caramel chocolate was melting in his cheek as he set out the last plate of sweets. The parent daughter dancing had begun, which meant as soon as that was over everyone would be flocking to the counters with heaps of food. The young boy had gone unnoticed like usual. A few plates were already emptied from prior to the dances. Cleaning them up, he moved out of the way towards the servant’s door. Finn took a moment to watch the dancing. Being so young made him irrelevant to the staff on the kitchen. They only saw him being good for carrying things. Even then, kids his age dropped things all the time, though he had learned through a good whipping to be extra careful when handling things.

The staff whispered all the time about the blue hair. Many thought the child was cursed. The princess seemed perfectly normal to him, besides the blue hair. He watched until their final curtseys and then he slipped through the concealed door as everyone began to do their own thing. Some went over to the food, others followed their significant others out on to the dance floor.

The kitchen was busy with cooks and servants. All hollering about what they needed. Finn waited patiently as another plate was being filled. These were fancier than the last with white swirls. Others were shaped like daisies and other varies flowers he didn’t know. “Be sure not to snack on too many this time.” the man warned playfully, knowing that Finn liked to taste his work. A mischievous smile grew large as he took the plate from the large burly cook. “I don’t know what you’re on about.” This batch wasn’t just better decorated, but it tasted better than the last. It easily melted instantly and he had to lick the evidence off his lips.

On returning the two princesses were eyeballing the remaining chocolates on the last plate. The blonde had a pouted face since not much was left that looked too appetizing. “This one is a better batch than the last.” A chocolate was still on the corner of his lip from the last sample he had. The plate was taken happy smile on Princess Kendra’s face as she stuffed one of the swirled chocolates in her mouth. “You’re welcome.” Finn noticed that they had yet to separate from the plate. “Am I going to need to get another one?” he asked playfully. Yes? That answer was unexpected. “Um the gardens . . .” The girl was pulling her sister away before Finn could really turn down the request. “Suuure. . .” he answered before turning back the way he came, though both were out of earshot.

Lilith Giese

The royal family had out done themselves this time. Every one of these little shin digs were better than the last. The Queen looked stunning. Many envious men were on the sidelines watching the pair dance in circles with the occasional spin. Whispers of the royal family’s fashion were coming from all ladies. One even dared try and start a conversation with Lilith, but one deadly glare sent her to the other end of the room. The witch had not come for small talk about gowns or the beautiful layout of decorations. Rumor was one of the daughters had great abilities. One she greatly wanted to possess herself. So while everyone watched the royal couple her eyes were fixated on the daughters, the blue haired one in particular. It was such an odd thing to be born with. Especially while the other twin seemed perfectly normal.

The twins were too far away for her normal human looking eyes to see anything being exchanged between them. In a blink, her eyes had gone pure white, like they were full of cataracts. It was the exact opposite though. Her sight was clear as day. Like a hawk, she could see from the far. They hands were cupped together. It wasn’t there for long, but long enough for her to see the small flower formed out of ice. Excited whispers were exchanged between the girls. No one else had noticed. They were all absorbed in watching the dance.

The music changed into more of an upbeat tempo and the parents approached there little girls. Each parent took one girl and they started dancing. This was more sloppy and filled with lifts and twirls more than anything to keep the girls smiling. Lilith’s eyes danced in excitement as they followed the blue hair around as the young girl was twirled by her father. The other was being lifted by her mother, but she paid no attention to that one, for she seemed ordinary.

Neva

o5n6dl.jpg

Neva quickly lowered her hands when the music started changing, giggling softly with Kendra's compliment. She didn't feel like she was getting any better but maybe she was. It wasn't like there was too much free time to practice, except for nights like this. She quickly straightened when she noticed their parents coming, ready for their dance with the twins. Of course, Neva didn't exactly wait for the king to get closer but he also knew she wouldn't. He had bowed to her while she walked and she in turned curtsied to him. He had a grin plastered on his face that matched the size of Neva's as the two started dancing. Though she didn't do as much spinning or twirls as her mother and Kendra, he did pick her up fairly often. It made her feel like she was flying and there wasn't anything that could stop her. The dance seemed to end just as quickly as it had started and soon they were hurried off the floor so the adults could dance. Which was perfectly fine with Neva truth be told.

"Hurry, hurry!" Neva exclaimed quickly as they weaved their way through the crowd to the table. Just as Kendra seemed to pout at the lack of decent chocolate, so too did Neva. Only it didn't last as she laughed at Kendra's reaction. "They've got to restock at some point, right? If they run out of food, Father would be upset with the cooks." She pointed out not even moments before one of the servant boys brought over a fresh plate of chocolates. "Better than the last?" Neva repeated happily, nudging her sister with an 'I told you so' look on her face. She took one of the chocolates and closed her eyes as it practically melted in her mouth. It was such bliss! More so when the boy offered to give them a plate; Kendra took it upon herself to tell him where they would be. "See you soon!" Neva called to the boy as she followed after her sister, waving quickly to him. This was going to be such a perfect night, what with the chocolate and the practice. She followed after her sister through the all too familiar gardens, avoiding certain ways so that they could get to the fountain faster.

The moment it was in sight, Neva quickly ran the rest of the way and twirled herself around. "I hadn't thought that far." She replied with a small giggle, kicking her shoes off right before she sat on the edge of the fountain. "Oh!" She turned to her sister with an excited expression on her face. "How about I try an animal this time? I haven't tried one of those yet." Even as she pondered out loud, she reached for Kendra's hand and started focusing on an image of a dog. It seemed like the simplest of the animals that she could picture. A frost once again started to form a layer around their hands before the little particles formed together. It only took a couple of minutes before the ice seemed to mold into the form of a small dog with a fluffy tail. "Look, look!" Neva was so excited, perhaps even a bit too much as the structure of the form quickly started to melt away. "You should try! Just...I don't know, think of something and imagine it in your hand. Just will it to form, that's what I do. Try a gardenia!" She suggested the first flower she laid her eyes on before looking to her sister.

Princess  Kendra

They were sitting facing each there as Kendra still had her feet in the fountain. “What?” she excitedly turned to her sister, waiting to hear what she was going to try for this time around. “Yes, yes!” she agreed, splashing a bit with excitement. “I’ll guess what it is.” Grinning from ear to ear, Kendra held her breathe in excitement as her hand was taken. The cold sensation commenced once more. At the urge from her sister, she looked down in time to see the tiny dog with a giant fluffy tail before t melted away. “That was amazing.” It was like here sister had read her mind, she was thinking how she wanted to give it a go when her sister suggested so.

“Ok, ok.” A heavy sigh was let out as she tried to concentrate. The giggles wouldn’t stop though, and she had to let them out before she could truly focus on the matter at hand. “Ok, I’m trying now. Promise.” Kendra did as her sister had done before and cupped her hand. Closing her eyes, she let out a deep breath as she imagined the flower in her mind. The white flower came to her mind, with its many petals. Following her sister’s instructions, she tried to will it to form. A moment had passed and nothing. There was no cold tingling sensation, nothing. The image never left her mind, she only concentrated harder on forming it. Not wanting to be different from her sister.

The harder she concentrated, the higher the bubbled of water that had come out of the fountain. It was small, no bigger than a hand, but it was in front of Kendra’s face, like it was trying to scream hello at her. It took some time, but slowly it morphed into a Gardenia. No idea what was taking place in front of her, Kendra let out of frustrated sigh. “What am I doing wrong?” she mumbled, ready to give up. Perhaps she was just the ordinary one and her sister was the only one with powers.

Neva

o5n6dl.jpg

The compliments from her sister went fairly unnoticed as Neva was more interested in seeing Kendra try. The sigh from her sister followed by a bout of giggles just caused Neva to laugh with her. She tried clearing her throat a couple of times and putting on an air of an 'adult' but that just resulted in more laughter. "Me too, sorry. Okay, go go." Neva mumbled out as she forced her fit to stop all together. Her eyes instantly went to Kendra's hand as she waited to see something, anything really. The whole time the smile was on her face but as the seconds went by, it started to falter. She could tell Kendra was focusing hard like Neva had suggested. Did that mean Kendra couldn't do what Neva could? The thought alone caused a pout to form on Neva's face but she stayed silent still. Maybe Kendra just needed a little more time to concentrate is all.

As she thought it, her eyes drifted to the side a little thinking that maybe her staring was interrupting. It was in that moment that she noticed the way the water was bubbling up towards Kendra. Neva's deep blue eyes quickly went from the water to Kendra then back again. The biggest smile that could fit on her tiny face formed as she watched the way the water moved so close to her sister. Neva wanted to reach out and touch it but even as she felt her hand move she quickly dropped it. The water changed to the image of the gardenia that Neva had suggested. It was absolutely stunning! Yet when she looked back to Kendra, her sister's eyes were still closed and there was some sadness on her features. She couldn't see what she was doing. Neva let out a small huff of disappointment before shifting slightly in her seat.

"You're doing everything right." Neva spoke quietly as she tried not to break her sister's concentration. "Keep imaging the flower, picture it in your mind but open your eyes. Look at the beauty you made." The words grew quiet as a whisper as Neva looked to the water gardenia again. "You have to see it, Kendra. I don't know how you got the water to move like that but it's so pretty!"

Princess Kendra

Kendra wrinkled her nose as she listened to her sister. What could she be doing right? There were no signs that she was forming an ice figure in their hands. The water lost form a bit as it started to droop down as she furrowed her eyes in frustration. Taking in a deep breath, she focused on the floor and as she did the shape zipped right back to the flower form. Doing her best to keep the picture in mind, slowly, her eyes fluttered open to see her hard work in front of her. Kendra gasped, her hand tightening around her sister’s. It was so beautiful, but it melted back into the fountain. That didn’t bother her at all. She could do something particularly amazing too.

“Did you see it?” she exclaimed, pointing to where it once was. The voice caused her to jump and let out a little squeak. Quickly, she twisted around to only see the servant boy. “Whew.” she sighed, giggling. Lie, lie. A lie needed to be thought up as the boy closed in, a plate of sweets in hand. “A bunny.” she answered, nodding at her sister to go along. The boy’s eyes scanned for any signs of a rabbit, but then shrugged it off like it was nothing handing over the plate of sweets. “Yoou remembered. Might have to get you to help out every time we have a ball.” she smirked, scoping out the plate. It wasn’t just filled with chocolates, but this time there were tarts and some sweet cinnamon rolls as well.

“Thanks . . . . What is your name?” The boy had chocolate brown hair that was messy from him running his hands though it repeatedly. In a way, he was sort of cute. The chocolates held Kendra’s attention, though she was listening for his name. “Finn. Nice to meet you.” she stated, stretching out her arm to his hand. “Thanks again. We really appreciate it. It usually a bit more difficult to snag some treats before we head out here. Next month do you think you could help us out again?” It was a long shot of course. If caught the boy would get a whipping if not thrown out of the kitchen. None the less, he agreed, which made her face light up in a smile. Politely, he excused himself. A giant wave and the other hand picking up a roll, she turned back to Neva. “What should we try next?”

A branch snapped, but this time it didn’t startle Kendra. Finn probably wanted to come back for some reason, but when her gaze fell on the black curly haired woman she froze. The roll was put down and she huddled up next to Neva. Something wasn’t right about this lady. Even if she had a sweet voice and was coming off as trying to be nice. There was something wrong. No one ever followed them out here before

Finn Kreger

Finn decided the girls would like an assortment of treats. When no one was looking he put together a plate of his own for them. It was sort of dangerous, though he figured he could easily talk his way out of it if anyone caught him in the act. The selection was most favorites of his own since he didn’t know the girls’ likes or dislikes. One it was put together neatly he went off like he was going to take it out to the guests. Taking the normal path, he went to the ballroom, but went straight through it this time out to the gardens.

The girls didn’t say where in there they’d be, so he had some looking to do. There giggles were a clear indication there were near. A strange feeling that someone was following him couldn’t be shaken. Every time he looked back the path was clear. It was giving him such and eerie feeling he was about to turn back. The girls exactly could tattle on asking him to steal food when he heard one shout in excitement. There were right around the corner and he knew where too. It was one of the more private nicer sections in the garden that had a fountain in it. Once he turned the corner they were right in sight.

“See what?” he asked, holding the plate up high in the air for them to see the treasure of treats he had gathered for them. The girls seemed a bit off, like they were hiding something. He searched for any signs of bunnies, but there were none. It made sense he guessed. Must have run off or something. They were polite enough to say thanks and ask for his name. Honestly and conversation was good enough for him. Most of the time he was invisible. “Finn. You’re welcome.” That was surely followed up quickly with another request. Finn didn’t know if it was best for him to keep sneaking around, but he wanted to make them happy for some reason. So he agreed. “Yeah, I got to get back though” He pointed over to the building meaning the kitchen. “They’ll think something is up of I’m gone too long.”

Lilith Giese

Lilith had trailed behind the boy sneakily the whole time. He was awed struck and didn’t even know it. Why else would he be risking his neck to bring them sweets. It had worked out to her advantage. She only need to lurk in the shadows as he did all the work in finding them. Earlier they had snuck off without her being able to follow, but she had overheard their conversation with the servant boy and knew he would lead her to them. As suspected, she was right. They were right there at the water fall discussing something excitedly, probably the ones magic. Quietly, she watched the three interact. The opportune moment would arise when he left and then she could snag the blue hair child. No one would be around to respond in time. It didn’t take very long for him to leave. Now was her time.

“Evening ladies.” she said, emerging from the shadows after the boy left. One was uneasy instantly. To have success she would need to act quickly. “What are you girls up to all by your lonesome.” she chimed, approaching the fountain. “Looks like snacking, huh?” she continued, eyeing the plates of food she knew was already there. “I just had to come find you to compliment your hair an-“ she was close enough now to grab the girl and she did. Taking her upper arm, she pulled her closer cupping a hand over her mouth. In the other hand a knife she held up to her throat. It was only a scare tactic. “Quiet little lady. Don’t want sissy to get hurt do you?” she asked, getting the girl to shut up instantly. The getaway carriage would not be far, all she had to do is get her there.

Neva

o5n6dl.jpg

Neva's smile only grew when her sister finally started to open her eyes and see the work she created. Her own hand gave her sister's a gentle squeeze of excitement as she looked from the flower to her sister. Even as the flower melted away, the excitement didn't die down as she practicall bounced happily. "Yes, it was-" Neva stopped abruptly when she heard a voice and swallowed a bit nervously. It was the servant boy that came to them, which helped to alleviate at least a bit of the worry. How much had he seen though? Neva glanced to Kendra when she mentioned a rabbit before quickly nodding her head. "It had the fluffiest, cutest tail I'd seen." She added as an extra measure, just to indulge the story a bit. She wasn't too fond of lying but she also knew to not overly point out the fact that she and her sister were gifted. She was more than a little grateful when the topic died and was replaced with sweets.

"You brought so many!" She exclaimed, already claiming a tart from the tray and popping it into her mouth. She ate it a little too quickly though so she could focus in on what he was saying. "Nice to meet you, Finn." She nodded and almost managed to say it at the same time as her sister. Of course, she was more distracted with a piece of chocolate to talk too much. The thought of being able to get more treats for the future balls caused her to perk up a bit and nod her head; not quite like she was answering for him but she was hopeful. "Thanks so much, Finn!" Neva called after him for both agreeing to their rather selfish demand and the treats he brought tonight. She didn't pay much attention to anything else except for the tray so she had only gotten the gist of what her sister asked. "Hmm...a good question indeed." She mused, her mind wracking through the options of what they could attempt as she reached for another chocolate. She only stopped because of the crunching twig and the way that Kendra got so close to her. Neva glanced to her sister before her small blue eyes darted to the woman's voice.

She eyed the black haired woman suspiciously -as suspicious as a child could be- while her hand reached for Kendra's. This was the first time someone had followed them out to the gardens like this and much like her sister, Neva didn't like it. She wanted to move, to run really but she found her legs wouldn't budge. Even if they could have, it wouldn't do any good. The woman talked so smoothly that for a moment Neva thought she was misjudging her; only a split moment that didn't last. A scream escaped her lips the second she was grabbed before it got muffled by the woman's hand. Even with the knife to her throat, she still struggled a little as tears threatened the corner of her eyes. She was frightened, more so than the time that she thought a monster was lurking under their beds. Her hands reached for the woman's arm and tried tugging on it before another idea shot through her mind. Even as her breath was ragged and body filled with fear, she focused hard on what she was attempting. The frost slowly emerged and surrounded both of her hands as she thought about trying to freeze the woman's arm. It got colder and colder beneath her palms, so cold that it caused her body to tremble in conjunction with the fear of what would happen if this didn't work.

Cethin

2qal2zp.jpg
Cethin sat on the driver's seat of the carriage, waiting like the good little 'pet' he was. He did as Lilith asked without question for he knew her bad side. It was her beauty and grace that drew him in what felt like an eternity ago; what got him to stay was the fact that there was no leaving. She had power, beauty, intelligence, everything that a woman should want. Yet here he sat because of some rumor about a little girl with power. They weren't even sure this twin had power or not but Lilith hadn't wanted the chance to slip by. If there was power to be had, she wanted it. It was perfectly fine for Cethin given how he was searching for someone to act out his revenge. He needed more power to do it though and with Lilith, he knew he could accomplish it. That bastard that killed his wife would pay ten times over before he was through with him. All in good time though. For now, he leaned back against the carriage seat and glanced towards the castle for any signs of movements from his Lady.

Princess Kendra

Her intuition told her not to trust the lady and it was right. Despite her kind words in that sweet voice she had another agenda than playing nice. Screaming, she scrambled to pull her sister back to her side, to safety. There was no use as the lady was stronger and there wasn’t enough time to get a good grip. The threat made her swallow her scream as she stared at her sister. Tears were threating to come gushing out, but she remained focused on her sister. Kendra remained silent, but wasn’t going to let her leave with Neva. As the lady pulled her sister away she took a few steps to stay with them. The woman’s words were harsh and terrifying. Never tearing her gaze from the two, she backed up until she felt the fountain and sat. Tears spilled as she watched the woman start making her way out of the garden.

Hope was lost and she was prepared to run to her parents when the lady made a bone chilling shriek. Neva had been thrown to the ground with this ugly creature that was only something seen in nightmares towering over her. “Neva!” she screamed, running to her sister and crashing down on all fours as the lady shouted profanity. Kendra didn’t understand what the creature was on about or what was so upsetting, but it was charging towards them. Crawling backwards, she stayed close to her sister as it was yelling. Then it eyes that were pure white fell on her, causing her heart to skip a beat. Kendra was clambering trying to get to her feet and offering a hand to her sister when she felt a tight grip on her arm. “N-no no! Neva he-“ A hard yank sent pain shooting up her arm as her body was whipped around and met with a hand with a tight grip around her throat, shutting her up.

Whatever monster was in front of her, it was truly ugly. Kendra uncontrollably shook and tears ran down her face like a river. It smirked showing all of it teeth that were sharp like glass shards. It pinched her jaw until her mouth was open and then started taking deep breaths. It didn’t stop her from trying to kick the monstrosity. Each time it drew in a breath she felt her energy leaving. The last one rendered her paralyzed as she watched a little light float out of her mouth. The worse crept into her mind and she figured it was over, until the woman let go and she fell hard on her butt. In the first gasp the little orb zipped back inside of her and all her energy came back, though her body was still begging for oxygen.

Finn Kreger

Finn hadn’t made it far when he heard the screams. Sprinting, he raced back to where he had last seen the girls. When he came around the corner he froze. It was some demon like thing chasing after the girls. Part of him didn’t believe this was real. Must be lost in some dream, but it was reality. It was sucking one of their souls out? He had no idea, but he snapped out of his trance once he noticed the other was dying. Desperately, he searched his surroundings for anything. A large branch preferable, but the garden was kept up on at all times. There were large rocks outlining a flower bed. Taking one of the larger jagged pieces he hurled it at her head.

It hit its mark and was enough to cause the monster to let the girl go. Finn didn’t take any chances; while it was stunned he charged and slammed into Lilith with his shoulder knocking her down. That had made it livid as now guards were on their way. The beast was so fast that is when it got to its feet it was a blur. A deep growl came from it and cautiously he backed away. Help was on the way, it wouldn’t be stupid enough to continue? Still fear got caught in his throat as it was now cross with him.

It wasn’t even a fight. One wave of her hand and he was lifted off his feet. How? He didn’t know. It was a mere second that he was in the air before he went head first into the outside of the fountain. There was a big gash on his eyebrow and his shoulder had been dislocated. Using his good arm, he adjusted himself so his back was against the fountain. Finn’s vision was blurry, but he could make out the creature fleeing. Relief over swept him as he leaned his head against the fountain, holding his injured arm close.

Lilith Giese

Hunched over the small blue hair child, she started inching away from the other girl. The tingling sensation was over looked as the other sister wasn’t letting up. “Sit down brat, or you’ll never see her again.” she spat, glowering at the blonde that had scooted forward. The knife was held closer to demonstrate that there was truth to the threat. It had been enough to stop the little one in her tracks. Lilith began dragging the blue hair girl away against her will, but that didn’t last long. They had only made it a few steps when she a burning sensation on her arm became too overwhelming. A shrill scream of pain was let out as she threw the girl down on the ground. Her eyes immediately darted to where the pain was coming from. The skin was hard and had turned charred black where the girl’s hands were. Rage took over and her true form revealed itself. “You little bitch!” she screeched, as she let out an angry howl, charging at Neva. “Do you know what the cost is to look like this?” her head snapped to the side, animal like, as she questioned the young girl. Slowly, her eyes tore away from the one twin to the other that trying to aid the other. “You’ll see. You’re going to pay for it this time.”

The small girl tried to grab anything to keep herself free, but Lilith was stronger. One hard yank on the arm and the girls was forced to look at the hideous creature. Tears were streaming down, which made Lilith smile, showing all her hideous teeth. Her pale hand came down on the child throat, crushing all the words she was blubbering. Using her thumb and middle finger she pinched the child’s jaw, forcing her mouth open. Inches away from Kendra’s face she started sucking in, taking the life force away from the child. This would have been the exact way she would have retracted Neva’s powers, with the help of a spell. The ordinary girl would do to fix the mark that was making her skin imperfect.

Sucking in for the third time, a small orb of light came out Kendra’s mouth and her eyes became dull and glazed over. One more and the child would be dead and Lilith turned back to her beautiful self. A sharp pain blasted in her head causing her to release the girl. A cry escaped her mouth, but there was no time to react as she was being knocked over. The ground was met with a hard thud and she came crashing down on her shoulder. Whoever it was that intervened didn’t know who they were messing with. Instantly she was on her feet, staring down at the servant boy. An angry growl was let out. Guards were no shouting for the princesses. The plan had been foiled all because a stupid little servant boy. One swipe of her hand and she sent him hurtling into the fountain. The guards were too near so she fled through the foliage to her get away.

Neva

o5n6dl.jpg

The scream caused more fright than the fact that the woman threw Neva to the ground. Despite her body wanting to curl up, her mind commanded it to move. She crawled and stumbled as she tried to get away from the woman. Tears blurred her vision but it wasn't long until Kendra was by her side. Neva reached out to hold her sister's hands, trembling still from the sight of the creature before them. Was that creature the same woman that had just tried to take her away? The thought came and left though as Neva tried to block out the creature's words. It wasn't until she felt a tug on her own arm that she realized her sister was being pulled away from her. "Kendra!" Neva shouted her sister's name, trying to keep the grip she had but failing. Neva couldn't move, couldn't even think as she watched the creature holding her sister so closely.

"Kendra!" This time it came out as more of a sob than a scream; Neva noticed the way that with each breath from the creature, her sister grew paler. Was it stealing her life? Neva was almost to scared to find out and she desperately wished the knights would have been close at hand. She cried for her sister again when she noticed the little orb of light slip from her sister's mouth and for a moment, she thought the worst. It wasn't until something whizzed by and smacked into her head that Neva paused in her sobs. Glancing to the side, she noticed the servant boy Finn run by and slam into the creature. "Kendra!" Neva didn't waste the chance as she rushed -albeit still crawling- over to where her sister was now. Instantly she wrapped her arms tightly around Kendra's body and held her close; the sobs didn't stop seeing as the creature got up. The only difference now was the clank of armor and voices calling the princesses names grew louder. A glimmer of hope rose in Neva's eyes as she thought they would be saved. "Finn!" She only wished the knights could have come sooner; another scream of dismay escaped her lips when Finn went flying into the fountain. Neva opened her mouth to call out to him but a sob came instead. The creature was fleeing, likely because the knights were closing in.

"Finn, are-" her voice was interrupted as several knights came into the clearing, swords drawn and glancing around. All but three of them split off to search for the intruder while the others glanced the children over. "You, go inform His Majesty of what had happened. And you, help me bring them to the healer." One of the knights, obviously a commanding officer based on the crest on his chestplate, ordered the other two. Quickly they obeyed his commands; one ran off as fast as his legs could carry him while the other walked over to the boy. "Don't touch her!" Neva practically yelled at the knight that was trying to bend down to pick up Kendra. He paused and glanced at the other man, who was halfway through carefully picking up Finn. "Your Highness, we need to get you all to the healer. His Majesty will want to make sure you aren't injured." The knight's gentle tone caused a bit of relief to well inside of Neva and very slowly did she start releasing the hold she had on Kendra. Though she was still crying, there was still a more protective layer in her eyes. The knight picked up Kendra in one arm and then motioned for Neva to get in his other. It gave Neva the chance to keep a solid hold on her sister's hand for comfort before the two knights started to head into the castle to seek the healer out.

Cethin

2qal2zp.jpg
Cethin could hear it, the scream even from where he waited in hiding. His Lady never screamed, so something must have gone wrong. He grabbed the reigns of the carriage and kept his eyes glued on the surroundings. She would come out from somewhere, he just knew it but the question itself was where. Well, where and what exactly happened. He noticed a shadow moving nearby and made a small clicking noise with his tongue. It was loud enough to get the horses moving at a slow pace to close the distance. Lillith was in sight but there was no child in her grasps. The clanking of metal from a knight's armor was steadily growing louder and louder. "Come, m'lady." Cethin called to her, jumping out lightly to open the door to the carriage. Once he was sure she was in, he closed it and jumped back onto the seat. There'd be time to figure out what happened later but for now his priority was getting her out of here. So he whipped the reigns in his hands and got the horses to jump off to a run. The sooner they got out of the town and headed back to her domain, the safer she'd be.

Princess Kendra

The creature had been quickly knocked over and Kendra scrambled to her feet but spiraled down. Vision blurred, she almost blacked out. Warm arms wrapped around her and Kendra hugged them tightly looking up to see her sisters face. It was still hard to control her breathing. She tried to slow it down, but kept hyperventilating. Her skin was clammy and pale. Her hero, the servant boy, she knew nothing about. Only heard the commotion from his body hitting the fountain, but she didn’t move. The only clue she knew it was Finn is when her sister sobbed and mumbled his name. The creature as scrambled away, but Kendra still held on to her sister with a tight grip. It could return? it was strong; perhaps it would challenge the knights on their way to aid them. When the guards approached she held on tighter to her twin, not wanting to be separated. The protective tone of her sister voice, supporting her decision not to let go. It wasn’t until the hold on her was loosened, that she relaxed. “Neva.” she sobbed, curling up in a small ball. The knight felt warm and he shivers of fright faded. Their hands remained intertwined the whole way to the infirmary.

The nurse clicked her tongue, covering more blankets around Kendra. The two of them were separated for evaluation, but she was going to change that as soon as the talk lady with the white hat left her bed side. Everyone was talked in hush tones. All sorts of questions were asked, what did she look like, when did she approach, what did she say, and are you sure that is what you saw? At first the grownups couldn’t wrap their head around the description that would be in stories meant to scare children, but all three of them as similar descriptions. Pale skin, with sold white eyes, dark circles under the eyes and razor sharp teeth that looked like shards of glass. Kendra had caught her breath, but she was cold to touch with pale skin. The nurse wasn’t skilled to deal with this sort of thing, so a specialist was called in to assess if there was any real damage. As soon as the nurse turned to address their royal majesties Kendra was off the bed with the all the blankets wrapped around her and into the other bed next to her sister.

“Neva.” she mumbled, snuggling up next to her twin, sharing blankets so nothing would separate the two. Her hand wormed through the blankets until it found Neva’s and then she held it, resting her head on her sister’s shoulder. “What are they talkin about?” Everyone was hush as they spoke, going to extreme lengths to keep out of the girls ear shot. “Is it coming back?” The thought caused her to go pale. Easily it could sneak into their room, or hide until the opportune moment. “Neva” she sniffled, tears escaping again, her hand growing tighter. “What it want?” she asked, the sniffles still going.

Finn Kreger

Finn was in the next bed to Neva, but he wasn’t moving. Moments ago he had his shoulder was popped back into place, which caused scrutinizing pain that he and never endured before. Just like the woman had said, it passed fairly quickly, but was still sore to move. They had put his arm in a sling. The nurse gave him some bitter tasting liquid, supposedly medicine that would help with the pain. The gash was cleaned, but she reckoned there would be a scar left behind. It was sore to touch, swelled like a balloon, and he had a pounding headache he figured from it.

A billion questions went his way, but the nurse shooed them away for the time being. It had turned to a slight accusatory tone as they asked him why he was out there. The nurse angry voice had rung through the room. “Can’t you see the boy needs rest.” she had scolded, in her raspy voice. It was something he was thankful for, even if she wasn’t the most gentleness when administering first aid. The only thing they got out of him was what the creature looked like before they were shunned from his bed side. There was no doubt in his mind she couldn’t keep them away forever. Sooner or later he would need to discuss why he was out there. Finn closed his eyes, but the whispers and concerned tones kept his mind reeling. They were discussing what to do with the princesses. Eavesdropping was right, but he couldn’t help over hear one suggest separating the two girls.

Lilith Giese

As fast as her feet would carry, she ran. The carriage was right where they planned the door. On the way she had shifted back, everything was as she had first entered the kingdom, except for her charred black arm. “Move quickly.” she told him, as she crawled in to the carriage. Knights had been tailing closely behind. It was miracle they didn’t catch up to her, though she was prepared if they had. She wasn’t afraid of bloodshed. “Damn it!” she screamed, pounding the side of the wall and stomping her feet. “So close, then that stupid little servant boy.” she growled, glowering in the direction of the castle. Fleeing wasn’t her style, but this time there was no other choice. There was no way making this successful after the little boy intervened. Lilith had gotten too caught up in her vanity. The logical thing to do was just to keep after the blue hair child, Neva. She was kicking herself for her stupidity.

Neva

o5n6dl.jpg

The trip itself to the infirmary was a silent one, as the gravity of the situation seemed to seep into the knights. The fact that the twins were separated caused Neva to throw a rather nasty fit with one of the nurses. Enough to cause an older, more stern woman to give the young princess an earful about how inappropriate she was being. But Neva didn't want to be evaluated like this, she wanted to be with her sister and make sure one hundred percent she was fine. That little orb that had come out of her sister's mouth still played in Neva's mind. Every time she thought of it, it caused tears to threaten the corners of her eyes. Her sister could have died were it not for Finn being there. She'd have to make sure nothing happened to him for being out like that. She wasn't given much time to dwell on the how as all sorts of questions of what happened were being thrown their way. She gave them all the description of the creature but she refrained from saying why the creature tried taking her.

Truth be told, she wasn't one hundred percent sure but she was thinking it might have something to do with her own ability. The creature was certainly powerful enough to not need to ransom the king for anything when she could just take it. But Neva said nothing on that and just repeated the same thing the other children were saying. Neva peeked up when she heard her mother's worried voice but quickly her attention went to her sister. When Kendra was in the bed, Neva readjusted the blankets so that they were properly around the two of them. The question thrown at her caused her to glance the adults way before she gave her sister's hand a gentle squeeze. "I don't know, I can't hear them." Neva pouted at the realization but she did know they were talking about them; what they were specifically saying she hadn't a clue. With a shake of her head, she gave her sister's hand another squeeze as she shook her head. "It won't come back. The knights will be on full alert so that thing'll never be able to make it in again. We'll be fine." She said optimistically, even if she didn't one hundred percent believe it herself. The chances were small but they were still there nonetheless.

Noticing how her sister was close to tears, Neva reached her free hand up to cup her sister's cheeks. "It'll be fine, Kendra. Really. I won't let that creepy thing touch you again. I'll get stronger and so will you so if it does come back, we'll be ready." She sounded more confident as a smile spread across her cheek with the thought. She knew her ice could harm it, even if it all but freaked out about the mark it left. Which meant there was a chance to fight it off. "You'll see, Kendra. We'll be fine." Neva repeated with a nod of her head before she gave her sister a big hug to try to comfort her. Even though she didn't let go, she turned slightly so she could look over to the bed where the servant boy was laying. "Finn...I don't know how to thank you enough for saving my sister. And...I'm sorry you got hurt because of it. But I promise you, you won't get in trouble for being out there. I'll make sure of it." It was far from being repayment for what he did but it was at least a start.

Cethin

2qal2zp.jpg
Cethin didn't need to be told to move fast as he had already tapped the horses. They sped down the cobblestone path as fast as their legs could carry them. He stole a glance behind him when he felt the carriage rock from something other than the stone. It was more that than her scream that caught his eye. By not having the child was clear enough something happened But for her to behave in such a way openly, it must have been something big. "M'lady." He wondered if he should even ask about it or if he should just ask if they were coming back. Probably not given how security would be even tighter after an attempted kidnapping. Maybe a new plan would have to be thought of first. She mentioned a servant boy, which made him that much more curious. "Whomever that servant boy is that interfered with you, m'lady, I will make sure he suffers for it." A little brat got in the way of what his Lady wanted, so a little suffering would have to due. He'd find out the details soon enough but until then, he ushered the horses to move faster still as he turned off the main road to take a shortcut to get out of the kingdom.

Princess Kendra

Out of the two, Neva was braver. Always supporting and comforting, but this time her words weren’t making the same effect as usual. Kendra didn’t believe the knights could handle the animal if it came back. What was she to do? Splash it with water? A weak smile returned her sister’s confident one as she leaned into her sister’s hand. A tear forced its way out, but she wiped it away, concentrating on Neva’s pep talk. She signed and forced her smile to grow bigger, giving a small nod in agreement. There was no need to say she dis agreed for the time being. They were safe here. Being pulled into the warm hug brightened her mood; she tightly squeezed her sister, thinking to herself that she would never let her go. The two were going to be even more inseparable after this.

The servant boy had totally slipped her mind. It wasn’t until Neva spoke to him that her hero was remembered. Kendra mumbled her own thanks between the two’s exchange. There wasn’t much time given, not that Finn was overly talkative at the time. Something, someone else grabbed his attention and she followed his gaze to see her mother approaching. Worry was itched all over her face. Their parents knew better than to separate the two when they wanted things to go smoothly, so she didn’t send anyone back to their bed. There blankets were wrapped around tighter by their mother, her kissing each on the head before getting to her real objective. The room had cleared out, leaving just the four of them. The Queen was perched on the side of the bed, facing the servant boy, her arms wrapped around her girls. “I need the whole story. Everything that had happened tonight.” There was an emphasize on everything, with a better not lie to me tone.

Kendra glanced as Neva to see how much she wanted to divulge. “Girls” It was in the warning tone and it was apparent she knew there was more to it. Finn was the first to speak up though, and he kind of had their back, giving them time to sort out if they wanted to come clean about their powers. It was really hard to say the reaction they would receive from their parents. Kendra gave a small shrug, letting the other twin now she didn’t know what course to take.

Finn Kreger

The noise was becoming a dull hum as he started drifting off to sleep, but his name brought him back around. One of the girls was thanking him. He had done only what was right, even if that isn’t how everyone saw it. “Don’t worry about.” he replied, quietly. The blonde mumbled her own thanks, which he only gave a small nod in response. Finn knew what two ways it could turn out and he didn’t see how the princess could help him if it wasn’t in his favor. Once an adult’s mind was made up it was sort of hard to sway them otherwise.

As if on cue, he saw the mother Queen approaching them. At first he was invisible as she tended to her girls, adjusting their blankets, showing affection through kisses. Part of him wanted to leave them to this private moment, because it was just awkward on the other side. That wasn’t an option. The room grew silent as everyone shuffled out. Guess they thought the girls would be more inclined to tell their mother the truth if it was just the four of them. There was something they weren’t telling, but it was for him to spill. He knew it when they claimed to look at a bunny, it just wasn’t any of his business. “You’re majesty, I brought out some sweets for the girls and on my way back to the kitchen I heard screams and turned back to check on them. . . There was that creature there. I’m not sure what it was doing, but it was hurting Kendra. I threw a rock at it and knocked it over and then it threw me against the fountain.” he finished, knowing the Queen must knew most of that. There just wasn’t much else to say on his end.

Neva

He said not to worry about it, which just caused the blue haired princess to huff a little. Of course she was going to worry about it. Not only did he save her sister but he could very well get into serious trouble for giving them the sweets in the first place. Neva wouldn't stand for it, whether the stuffy old adult said so or not. She'd make sure that he wasn't going to get in trouble...unlike her and Kendra. Somehow seeing their mother approaching didn't bring about the usual warmth she felt. Perhaps it was just out of a speck of fear from what the Queen would ask them to reveal. The beginning wasn't bad and merely caused a small amount of relief to well inside of Neva. Being held like this made her feel safe, even if she knew she wasn't quite as safe as she had hoped. Not that she'd admit she was scared after being so confident everything would be fine. She felt herself relaxing in her mother's arms, her eyes almost closing completely. It was the way the room got awkwardly silent that caused her to open them and look around. They were alone now, with just their mother and the servant boy. Neva swallowed nervously as she glanced up in time to hear her mother's words.

Neva's eyes darted to her sister's to exchange a look with her; mother wanted to hear everything but if they said everything...especially in front of Finn. Maybe it was better to get it off her chest though, so that way they could be fully ready for it in case it did indeed come back. So many thoughts swirled around in her mind but the boy's voice caught her attention. Out of a small, growing habit Neva started to nibble lightly on her bottom lip. It wouldn't make much sense if they left out the details of their powers...or maybe she could just not include Kendra. If all that was known was Neva's power, then her sister would be safer because that creature might not go after her. With a heavy sigh -which more sounded like an exaggerated groan from a child- Neva wiggled out of her mother's arms and dropped the blanket some. She was more than just nervous at this point and it could be seen with the way her eyes darted to everything but the Queen.

"The parties are always stuffy and full of people that talk about boring stuff." She threw in the complaint first, just to get that bit off of her chest since parties were rather boring. It was so much more fun to go to the gardens with Kendra than listen to adults talk about things she didn't even understand. "We always get some kind of sweet that we nibble on throughout the night until we get tired. But we don't always just talk." Neva glanced to Kendra for a moment, giving her a look that begged her not to say anything before looking down at her hands. "Those people that always say mean things about me because of my hair...they're right about me. I am different and I think that's why that thing tried taking me. I...I hurt it and in turn, it tried hurting Kendra because of it." Tears started to prickle at her eyes once again as she slowly brought her gaze up to her mother. It didn't stay there long as she reached out for her mother's hand. Slowly she started thinking only about their mother's favorite flower, the hepatica. The frost she was becoming accustomed to slowly formed around their hands and danced around the center as the flower started to form out of the ice. Once the sculpture was complete, Neva stole a glance to the servant boy briefly.

"I'm sorry that we lied to you, Finn." She had to get that out as well since she couldn't exactly hide what she was doing from him. "And I'm sorry for not telling you, mama. I didn't want more rumors to spread and I was scared that you wouldn't love me because...because of this power." She didn't want to call it a 'monstrous' power but she heard term from one of the adults when they called her that due to only having blue hair. All the while she spoke, she had long since lost concentration on the flower and it slowly melted away in her mother's hands.

Princess Kendra

The night ended in their mother’s loving embrace. The Queen barely batted an eye when the little one confessed. Just comforted them both, telling them they were both strong beautiful blessings. A promise to protect them both was made. Kendra fell asleep in her mother’s arms. The next morning she woke in the infirmary next to her sister. Rubbing her eyes she let out a loud yawn to purposely wake anyone that was still enjoying their night’s rest. Finn stirred slightly, but only to roll over away from the noise. Kendra frowned. Once she was a wake she was gearing to get the day started. After last night, she just wanted to have breakfast and pretend the awful thing didn’t happen.

“Neeva?” Kendra called out to get her sister’s attention. It was boring being cooped up in this little room. No one had checked on them yet, probably figured they were still sleeping. “When we getting out of here?” she groaned, rubbing the sleeper out of her eyes. Breakfast was on her mind, pancakes in particular. It was her favorite. Perhaps if she requested. . . The door opened to reveal their parents approaching. There was something off about the whole thing. Mother had a tear stained faced she was trying to hide with an overly warming hello and giant smile. They stood at the foot of their bed. Something on the tip of their tongues, but they waited to have both girls attentions.

Neva

The night was almost a blur for Neva after she had confessed about her powers to more people than she ever thought possible. Keeping it a secret had always been in the back of her mind but after showing it and the comfort her mother brought, she had fallen asleep wondering why. Why did she keep it a secret for so long? Why had she always been so careful to not show anyone except for Kendra? Those questions had never popped into her mind but they did as she was passing out with her mother's hand running through her hair. She would have slept like Kendra had but she had been content in the ball beside them she made. The dreams she had occasionally caused her to toss and turn in a fit as they all involved that woman and the creature she became. Even her dreams weren't safe for the time being. Somehow she eventually stopped dreaming and slept as peacefully as she could until morning came sooner than she hoped. She could feel her sister stirring in the bed, which caused her to stir herself but otherwise she didn't move. At least not until she heard her sister's pouting voice call her name. A small groan later and Neva rolled over to the side to send a pout her sister's way.

"Imma wake. Awake..." her voice trailed off into a yawn as she slowly forced herself into a sitting position. Her arms went out as far as they could as she arched her back in a heavy stretch before slouching in content. "I don't know but the nurse will come get us when it's time. I'm pretty sure." She added in a tone that sounded more like her usual one than the first attempt. It was rather dull to be stuck here in the infirmary when they weren't injured like Finn had been. Her eyes looked over to the servant boy that still slept but they didn't stay there for long. The footsteps of their parents drew closer and dragged Neva's attention right back to the front again. Mother alone had the air about her as if she too was hiding something but Father had that gentle smile that the girls knew all too well. He only had that smile when he needed to talk to them about something very serious. Neva almost instantly took Kendra's hand, more to stop her own from the shaky feeling it was starting to get. The king's arm lightly tapped the queen's before he stepped away from her to sit on the edge of the bed near the sisters. At first he said nothing, just reached his hands out to touch each of their cheeks gently.

"Is...something wrong, Father?" Neva asked quietly as she stole a glance to her sister in slight confusion. A heavy sigh seemed to escape the king's lips as he moved to rest his hands in his lap. "I don't know how to say this in an easy manner, girls." He started, his eyes casting downwards almost in a defeated manner though he still kept the smile on his face. "What happened last night was an eye opener for us, one that bore into your mother and I greatly. As your parents, we must do everything in our power to protect you from harm and...we failed." He looked over to the queen with a solemn look before turning back to the girls. "We have decided that we need to keep you both under more protection, each for your own reasons." He paused again as he found it rather hard to get the words to come out of his mouth. So as he internally struggled with himself, he reached over once again but this time to lift Kendra into his arms. He had to give Neva a stern look so she'd let go of her sister's hand in the process. "We love you both greatly from the bottom of our hearts so this decision wasn't made lightly."

The king got up as he held Kendra close to him, keeping a watchful eye on Neva. "What decision?" She was asking as she dragged herself to the edge of the bed as he started to step away. He gave the queen a small nod so she walked over to sit on the bed and wrapped her arms lovingly around Neva, which just went to confuse her more. "For both of your safety, we're sending Kendra to live with King Merek to the east. If that creature comes back to try and take Neva again, we'll be ready this time. Dearest Kendra won't have to worry about getting caught in the crossfire this time either." As he spoke, he could already hear the 'no's' coming from Neva's mouth. "The safety of you both is our priority and it pains me to have to do this to you both." Tears were starting to prickle at the king's eyes but he stood tall as he started to walk away with Kendra still held tightly in his arms. Even as Neva started screaming for Kendra, he didn't turn back as it had to be done. The carriage with her things was already waiting outside the castle gates to take Kendra to a safer place.

Princess Kendra

The two were acting odd, even for bearing bad news. They were keeping an emotional distance it seemed. Kendra’s hand met up with his with a giant smile, but it faltered when the mood was brightened. Something big was about to happen. Perhaps they were to be locked up. To be cooped up in their rooms for the time being, but it felt like it was worse than that. She knew it was worse because he wouldn’t spit it out. His words danced around the main reason of visiting as he tried to explain they needed more protection. Kendra felt his warming embrace and returned it with one arm, the other still joined with her sisters. Once her sister let go she gave him a giant hug to say it was alright, but that all went away when he stepped away from the bed. Alarmed, she looked to her sister for answers before hearing from him.

“No, no, no papa! I don’t want to go there.” Tears came pouring out as she struggled from her father’s grip, but he was stronger. “Momma” she cried out, starting to kick and struggle more. “No, don’t send me away.” The king didn’t even look back. “Neva.” she sniffled out, as the doors closed and she could no longer see her family. It was silence the remaining way to the carriage. There were not time for goodbyes, the last family member she got to see was her father. There were very little words exchanged between the two of them, just one final goodbye hug and a gentle kiss on the forehead. Kendra tried to follow out after him, persuade him otherwise. The maid that was sent with her held her back until the carriage was in motion and the little girl couldn’t get out. The tears never stopped. Once she had the opportunity, she pulled away and went straight to the window. Watched until her home faded into the distance and she could no longer see it.

Finn Kreger

The one princess had stirred quite early, but Finn ignored any attempt of trying to wake them. The aching in his shoulder had kept him up half the night as soon as the medicine worn off. It had finally become a dull ache, enough for him to go back to sleep when all the commotion around him started. First it was the twins, the one ready for the day. Forgetting the night they had just had. She rambled about pancakes, though now that he thought of it, some food would be nice. Finn was caught up in his own thoughts and pretending to sleep he didn’t even know the King and Queen were present until he heard the man’s deep voice.

Finn heard it all. That they would be separated and it seemed they weren’t even going to let them say goodbye. Swallowing hard, he opened his eyes to see the Queen with Neva, the other gone. It was all sort of sad and he wanted to comfort the other, but that would be out of place. It was uncomfortable enough to be in on this private moment the family was having. Letting a few moments pass, he shifted and propped himself in a upright position, giving Neva a sympathetic look.

Neva

"Kendra!" Neva struggled in her mother's grasps, trying everything she could to get away to no avail. By the time the doors closed after the king and her sister, Neva felt frozen. Tears stained her cheeks and her eyes were wide with shock; things had seemed to be so much easier at first. Was it her fault for sharing what she could do? If she hadn't, maybe they wouldn't have separated the two of them. It felt like a hole had been ripped into her heart and Neva didn't know what to do. The once comforting way her mother ran her fingers through her hair did little to quell the feelings inside of her. They were all growing; anger, sorrow, confusion, fear. Neva wasn't sure how it happened but one second there was silence and the next her mother almost screamed as she got off of the bed. Neva's sky blue eyes tore from the door to look at her mother before looking to the bed as her mother did. The blanket she had been using was frozen solid from one end to the other. Why was it still frozen? She wasn't even thinking about doing anything with her power so how had that even happened?

Neva didn't get much chance to dwell on it as the queen stepped closer again and reached out to cup her cheek. "I'll go and get you some breakfast, okay? There's still some things your father and I have to discuss with you as well about some new regulations for you." Those words made Neva more confused as she pulled her knees closer to her so she could hug herself tightly. It was cold on this bed now without the warmth of her sister or a blanket. "I don't want breakfast, I want my sister!" Neva grumbled with a pout on her face which was met with a small sigh and a pat on the head. Quickly Neva swatted her mother's hand away before dropping to the side and burying her face into the pillow. She didn't understand why they were separated or how long it had to be. What she did know was that if they weren't going to give Kendra back, then she'd do it herself. She needed to grow stronger, learn how to control her powers more. If by that point Kendra wasn't back, Neva would look for her and she would find her...but first she really did need to get some food. She didn't want to admit it -and likely wouldn't when the queen returned- but she was actually fairly hungry. She could hear the light footsteps fading as her mother left the room to go get the food or have someone bring it.

Once Neva was sure the door was closed, she sat back up in a hurry and wiped away the remaining tears then smacked her cheeks a couple of times. There was a fair amount of determination growing behind the sorrowful eyes of hers as she glanced to her blanket. She stared at it for a long moment before glancing to the empty bed beside her and then the one with the servant boy in it. Based on the look he was giving her, he had to have heard everything. Her mouth opened to say something to him but she closed it for a moment to think it over. Though looking back at her icicle blanket made her just say it anyway. "I'm sorry, you keep getting in the middle of all sorts of stuff when you should be sleeping. Mama says we shouldn't cry in front of people but I forget why; it's some silly princess thing or something. But either way don't gimme that look!" She was of course referring to the sympathetic one he had on his face. She got off of her bed and headed over to his so she could crawl onto the end opposite of him. "But because you've helped so much, when the time comes I'll be asking for your help again. I've got your back if you need help too. So how about it? Let's be friends." Neva held her hand out to him with a small smile; her sister wouldn't be gone long, she had to tell herself that again and again. Throwing a tantrum wouldn't get her sister back and she knew that based on how her mother had quickly went to the thought of breakfast. Kendra being sent away was just a temporary thing and Neva had to make the best of it for now.

Finn Kreger

Finn watched as the princess crawled on his bed. He did his best to make room, but at the same time he didn’t want to move that much. Every movement, even the slightest cause his arm to ache and his head to start pounding. “What look?” he asked, furrowing his eyebrow. He knew what look she meant, he just simply didn’t like being told what to do. So playing dumb was his way to get back at her. The little missy must have had some sort of plan in her head, because she wanted his help later on. He raised an eyebrow at her proposition. You got my back I go yours kind of deal.

“We can be friends. . .” he agreed, reluctantly. He got along with everyone and he didn’t think it would be any different with her. What plan she had up her sleeve was what caused hesitation. “What are you going to need help with?” he asked, adjusting his sling. It was had been bothering him some time now. It was almost worth taking another swig of that vile medicine. No doubt sooner or later the nurse would be in with and hopefully breakfast. There really hadn’t been an appropriate time for him to ask for anything. “You want to go after her?” he asked, his mind going back to the princess and no longer food.

Neva

Neva puffed her cheeks out as she pouted when he claimed to not know the look she was talking about. Everyone would likely have it on their faces so it was probably something she should just get used to. Not that she would and she'd likely tell the others to stop as well. The pout only when away once he agreed to be friends, letting a smile grow on her lips. Her hands went up as she stretched briefly before they were placed in her lap. His question caused her eyes to glance up towards the ceiling as if she was thinking about it. Truthfully she already knew the answer, it was just more how to word it properly without sounding like she was demanding his help. His added question caused her to look down at him with an 'are you serious' type of look for a moment. "Of course I'm going to go after Kendra. It's not right that they sent her away like that when she did nothing wrong." Even though it might be safer for her considering she also had powers. That creature didn't know about Kendra's powers though. How was Neva supposed to protect her when she was all the way in another kingdom? That just didn't make any sense to the young girl and added to the determined mindset she had that this was going to happen at some point.

"It's...kinda obvious that they're gonna keep me, you know...not 'locked up' but under some heavy eyes. So I won't be able to go any time soon, which is fine. It'll give me time to work on my own ability, see if I can make more than just tiny sculptures." Which led her thoughts to how she had hurt the woman right before she turned into that creature. Clearly she could use the ability itself as a weapon so that was going to be something she worked on in her solitude. "But anyway, when the times comes for me to go find her I'd like for you to come with me. It'd be such a huge adventure going to King Merek's kingdom but it'd be so boring going all by myself. You'll come with me, right?" As Neva asked, she leaned closer as her expression changed to one that her mother called a puppy dog look. She still didn't quite understand what mother meant by that but she knew how to use it. "Pleeaasse?" She emphasized as her hands reached out to take a hold of his good one, being mindful not to touch his bad one.
