"It'll be me!" a voice roared out in the streets of the Staging Cove "I'll be Dome King before any o' you runts!"

Melikhom had just been ascending a rickety stairwell when the voice caught his attention, he looked down to the streets below to see a ganfg of Tournament Regulars jeering and mocking one another. They surrounded a Feasting member who was proudly beating his bloated chest with a gauntlet covered hand.

Melikhom grimaced at the sight, as it had become far too common in the last few months. The Staging Cove had been growing steadily since the Blood Dome had been christened, and so he had been forced to put up with hearing the growing number of hopeful swarmlings chanting day and night about how they'd be the one to gain honor and glory from the dome.

But this Dome King business? Melikhom considered that a step over the line.

"Ignore them." Zolmuk spoke from higher up the stairs "We're almost there."

They were near the rooftop of one of the newer buildings that had been scrapped together in the Cove, yet even further away Melikhom couldn't escape the Dome's obnoxious presence. Despite continuing up the stairs, he couldn't help but snarl every time the yells of the Regulars reached him. By the time they emerged onto the rooftop he was practically gnashing his teeth.

"Silence your fuming, forgeman." Zolmuk turned back to him "I've listened to you complain about that dome for months and even when our recruitment needs are solved you refuse to let it go."

"Because we're gettin' the run-off, boy!" Melikhom gestured around them "Only reason we got any lads is cuz there's too many to fit in that damn dome! We're workin' with sloppy seconds here!"

"Irrelevant." Zolmuk stated, snapping his fingers in front off "The main issue involved with the first step of claiming the forge was numbers, and we have them now. Right as we speak those newly recruited Seekers are heading out to soften it up for the next phase."

"Sharin' recruitment pools with that dome's eatin' through our resources like goddamn candy!" Melikhom pushed forward "The Swarms gotta focus on one or we's gonna buckle, and I sure as hell know which I'd prefer!"

"Exactly why we're here." Zolmuk turned away, walking towards a massive cage that had been constructed on the building's roof.

Standing around the cage's broken door were several Bloodbrood over a stark contrast to the tournament Regulars. Melikhom could identify them easily by the sheer amount of bone decorations and tattoos they wore. Despite many among the Swarms claiming trophies, the Muzzlers of Arach always managed to stand out from their kin.

Most wore masks fashioned from the skulls of beasts, their eyes nothing but glowing dots that tracked Zolmuk and Melikhom as they entered the cage. None had tried to stop them, none had even uttered a word. Instead the distant yells and cranks of machinery were replaced by the creaking of wood and insects chittering.

Inside the cage were numerous trees and cages stuffed with creatures of various sizes. Melikhom recognized some as being from their homeland, while others had been more native to the Cove's territory. Big beasts, little beast, and even one that Melikhom initially mistook for a deformed Bloodbrood at first.

But they moved past them all until they reached a large cauldron of water. It was being suspended from the cage by thick chains that looked ready to snap at any moment, but he and Zolmuk came to a stop before it before the latter reached and knocked a knuckle against it. The reverberating 'Clang' of his gauntlet was followed immediately by the surging of liquids. Water spilt out from the top of the couldron right before a hand whipped out from it.

22464e591973520c32e0147230a404db.jpgA half-dressed Bloodbrood pulled himself from the cauldron, one who was easy to identify despite the rather fitting mask he wore.

"You are late." he grunted

"You're half naked." Melikhom snapped before Zolmuk could shove him aside.

"We came to discuss the arrangements for the Fishing Wharf." he stated.

"Wharf, what wharf?" Melikhom asked as he caught himself "Ain't nobody tell me nothing about a wharf."

"I'll admit to sharing some of your concerns, friend." Zolmuk nodded towards the Cauldron "Which is why I took the liberty of opening a dialogue with Shor-Khan here. The Muzzlers have already grown tired of the ground fauna around the Cove, and are eager to test the beasts of its waters."

Melikhom had to shake his head at that, because it was a decent plan in principle. No Bloodbrood in all of the Swarm took hunting as seriously as the Muzzlers. Anything animal related, whether it be slaying or taming, they were usually at the forefront. While Shor-Khan was nowhere near as renown as the Talon, they wouldn't need to drag the Swarmlord to the Staging Cove just to get that particular Swarm engaged. Besides Shor-Khan was already considered by many to have the best chance of succeeding the Talon, that alone made him famous enough to utilize.

There was just one problem.

"How the hell do ya plan on gettin' this lot to do anything?!?" Melikhom demanded "They's sorts don't follow no timetables, no workin' methods."

"The call of the hunt is all that is needed." Shor-Khan leaped down from the cauldron, splattering them both in water as he landed before them "Delight in the spoils we allow you to partake in."

Melikhom wheeled on Zolmunk again, gesturing wildly to Shor-Khan.

"Is this a joke?" he asked "Most o these lot got some o the most ass-backwards rituals in the whole Brood!"

"Well we aren't exactly drowning in options now, are we?" Zolmuk shrugged, causing Melikhom to grind his teeth. He turned and walked back the way they came, snarling even louder than before.

"Sloppy seconds, I tells ya!" he shouted as he shoved aside the already broken door "Sloppy Seconds!"

Magistrata - Mage City.jpg
Magistrati Turn 06

Personal Journal - Grizzakis Darkfeather
My hopes for a peaceful future for this world weigh heavy upon me. War is the drumbeat of many. Sabers rattle in their scabbards even as the Magistrati work quietly in the background to support a growing international movement. Is it enough though? We have faith in the cause of the International Union. I would not have pushed for the hosting of the new Bank within our city if I did not have faith. I do question if it will be enough. I wonder if in the long term that the IU might require a military force loyal only to the institution and its cause over any nation.

I dread to voice this more publicly at least to our allies. Our covert operatives are at work, seeding issues against a warmonger in this Empire of Hate. My hope is to destabilize them enough to halt raiding, giving Cyberlink needed breathing space. The Council has invested greatly into contributing to those efforts of espionage and sabotage. Intrigue is a game all mages play. Even new magitech spy gear is being generated by the College of Artifice. We much put our faith in intrigue for now.

That does give me hope that the IU will not need a central military. That nations can and will coordinate efforts. That peace will reign. I know war will come. So I must stand ready to play my part in ending it swiftly. The Magistrati must adhere to our mission of peace. Even if we must carry daggers in the shadows to make that peace a reality. Soft power will alway destroy hard power in the end. No army can march without logistics. No empire can thrive without infrastructure. Soft power is the truth of the world, of this reality. I will show the world what soft power can do through hidden work and the growing influence of the International Union.

Paranoia dictates though that Magistrata be made ready to defend itself. More airships and golems must be commissioned. The city must be further expanded even as we seek new lands to build enclaves in. Our influence my but valued. Perhaps it is time to invest in improving those Enclaves to better enhance our alliances. I will talk to the Council in the morning about our efforts to initialize this. Magistrati presence must be desired if our message is to be taken seriously.

Recent reports of coastal disappearances also bears investigation. Could someone be abducting people for their war efforts or worse? I would not put it past some of the nations and their rulers. I will have to dispatch the skyfleet to commence investigations.

More new friends, a new trade route, and some new military. Things are getting together nicely. But it's not enough yet. They don't really have a way off of their little island, after all. It's time to get on that. They'll want to make new allies, create new cities. It will be vital to their remaining here if they're challenged.

BoN Act 3: Modern Age

It was a tumultuous time for the world at large. The Empire of Hate continues to strengthen their grip over their own section of the world in the West as the Eastern portion of the world has the ever present threat of war hanging over its head.

Tensions between the Fafrium Empire and Amonicus are reaching a near boiling point while allies on both sides attempt to diffuse the situation with varying amounts of effect.

Would the world be plunged into war? Or would it perhaps just be the original instigators after all?

The nation continues to reach for the stars with their program, now having been able to actually send an object to space and have a controlled reentry back down to their planet below. It was something that would shock the world, but would it be enough to stop the upcoming war that seemed to be lumbering forward? Perhaps not.

But it might spark other creations of war in the near future.

In the meantime, they have begun to upgrade their military with their infantrymen giving way to Veterans allowing their own fighting abilities to flourish and grow so that the world might see what their own military is capable of.

The Capital has grown even larger as the people enjoy not only the music, but the impending world tour that will spread great Joy and Music of cooperation throughout the world. New Yong was a place of Peace and Prosperity. It would endure long after others have fallen.

The Capital has vastly improved now that they have the full support of The World Tree. It can easily be seen in how the soldiers react, now that their King is actually behind what they are doing. It is their duty to protect the World Tree itself at all costs. This allows them to honestly and truly do such a task, a task that would pit them against demons, holding onto one of the lights that hold back the darkness.

(Quagmire-something happened to stall the stack, they cannot move this turn) Army 1 walked through heavy forested terrain, getting a bit turned around as these forests seemed horrendously thick, even for elves.

EVENT: An uprising in the labs of clones has occurred. They have managed to take a number of scientists hostage, though no one has been killed yet.

The Navy continues to improve with their numbers as well as with newer designs that will help them take all of the world’s seas with ease. The boys in R&D have cooked up something especially amazing. A Super Protype that they call: The Juggernaut. Its currently a one of a kind vessel, but with enough funding, perhaps down the line, it’ll be a new standard of the navy.

The final battle against the Rebels occurred without any further loss. The national army moved in and delivered the final blow to an already almost crushed rebel force. It seemed that the Rebels had been a lost cause from the start, but they still managed to put up a good fight in the end, certainly much more of one than anyone would have thought, especially those in charge.

Now, the Rebel Capital has fallen and goes to the 6th Legion.

EVENT: Those still living in the Rebel City want to know what will become of them. They say that they are ready to fight for the homeland again. Or, they can be dealt with as the traitors that they had been.

A nuclear power plant will help generate much more energy for the Great White City. It will ensure that they are at the foremost ability when it comes to other avenues. But for now, it makes it easier for them to decrease resource expenditure.

The technicians are trained to be able to actually use the plant itself. It would be their job to make sure that the structure functions as intended and doesn’t melt down.

(Quagmire– Something happened to stall the stack, they cannot move this turn) Army 1 had to move around a series of major whirlpools that seemed to come out of nowhere, delaying movement.

The process of upgrading the floating capital has begun as an arduous task, but one that will help them continue their long standing goals.

EVENT: The Order has begun to receive odd reports of people from various coastal cities all around the world that have had people going missing. If this keeps up, there will be panic. At least with the possibility of a major war, people can see what they are up against, but this is something UNKNOWN.

The Capital of Gaalvax is growing larger and larger than ever before. The cityscape itself had always been enormous, but now not only was it spreading even further than the eyes could see, but it was growing up higher and higher than ever before. More downtrodden, but more rich taking advantage of those down trodden seem to be appearing as well.

Now is the time for growth and now is the time to risk it all.

Farmers, that is what the Legion needs to maintain their self reliant attitude. Without such sustenance, their army would not be able to march and they would be dead in the water, or perhaps just plain dead.

In addition, more troops are trained. It is important to have enough to fight in the war, even if some should fall, they need to make sure that they have enough to accomplish their objectives.

A Trade building was constructed to help bring the trade from their allies and trade partners, into the pockets of the people and the government. It would be useful in the days to come. Especially with the work of the canal beginning under way. It is a monumental project that will take many months and a large amount of resources to pull off. But if it could be done, they would be remembered for ages for accomplishing such a monumental task.

Their names would live on in the history books, right next to those who invented the toaster or launched the first rocket ship.

EVENT: The Military is upset at the provocations of the Empire of Hate to the North. Turn 5

Disguise Fair Nature with Hard Favored Rage

"Well then, time to put our money where our mouth is. We said that it was our intention to provide peace and stability to the world and the world has held us to it. With this acquisition of Jump Jet Infantry we are able to bridge the gap between us our our closest, geographical, ally. They are, as we speak, making their way to Koenig, from where they will be able to strike at many positions as well as support our allies in defense, should they need it. While our allies in Koenig are very capable and formidable fighters they lack the mobility that we and the CSRA posses. This is our remedy for that." There was a pause as the Prime Minister addressed the house, some looked about ready to speak when he continued "Lord Arlington Burroughs is currently making the rounds to some of the, currently, neutral factions in the region. We hope to either gain their support in our peacekeeping efforts or, at the least, ensure they will not move to act against us. I ask us here, those of us gathered and those of our nation watching this address from their homes, not to vilify our growing enemies. Yes. It feels like war. Yes. It feels like we are under attack but we are not. Not yet. No. There is no war. If we succeed there will be no war. I am afraid to say, however, that we might not succeed. In fact, it seems likely that we will not. Despite this, and I must stress this, if war does come, do not blame our enemies. They do not understand our goals. They see our efforts as meddling when we only wish to protect them. If war breaks out then we will find our resolve and protect this world from its horrors. We must do as we always do. We will hope for the best, but plan for the worst. If all is well then this breath of mine is wasted. But I fear it to not be the case. I address this, finally, to the so called 'International Union', the IU" as he said this the disdain for it was clear on his tongue "Your frequent inaction. Your claims of representing all while allowing the voices of only a few. Your own meddling and intervention and then lack of follow through has directly lead to the situation we now find ourselves in. If there is a war then its blood is on your hands. I implore you to work with us and our allies to help us step away from the brink of destruction and consider your own future. We do not want war. I do not want war. But we will fight it. We shall, in the words of our great playwright, disguise fair nature for hard favored rage. We know what we struggle for and we will not give in to the meddling of bullies. No matter their size. We are the Sunset Kingdom and we will stand tall." As he finished there were a few staggered claps before the house, slightly more full then usual, erupted into applause. For many it might seem like his words appeared out of nowhere but this speak was planned and timed deliberately. He knew that after the unveiling of the new ship, finally finished and setting off on its maiden voyage that the news would inevitably pan to the house for any comments on the new ship, instead, they got this.

This however, comes at the cost of reduced effectiveness for each task. However, the systems affordability, cuttijg out the need for 3 individual systems, makes up for this downside/

The Ragnar Republic
Moving Forward
Turn 6
Koenig
After the successful manned rocket launch, the next step for the Ragnar was to begin establishing a presence above the world. The plan for this was to be in the form of satellites to improve the quality of life for the people while also ensuring that there was an improvement to observation and defensive capabilities. They were determined to not allow themselves to be put in the position they had been in before and this was one of the first steps to achieving it.

"We have plans to devote sector one solely to the deployment of satellites. This will allow us to rapidly deploy and expand our global positioning system that will help drive efficiencies for trade." Bernard Hacker was the brain behind the concept of a system to help provide real time global positioning data. "Once the upgrades have been given to our troops, our focus needs to move the construction of launch pads."

This was already in the pipeline for the Autarch and it wouldn't take long for the Ragnar to have permanent fixtures orbiting the planet.

World Tree
1676922423261.png
The Royal Archives, a web of roots created by the World Tree to house important and historical documents of the elven people. There are thousands of texts housed here and some of the most recent additions are written in the current common tongue. Ellario loved it here as it was a chance to poor back over the golden age of the elven people, when they were still one people and the world was in a state of peace and order. Some of his more personal memories of that time were a blur, almost like they were missing, but he attributed that to his brain locking away trauma that occurred during the demon invasion.

Today however, the serenity of the archives was disturbed as Ellario found himself being hounded by the Wardens. "The people are losing faith in our leadership." Oreon declared.

"Our inability to field a proper military has everyone frightened and hesitant to trust in us." Gihu'nan stated.

"My people are tired of being trapped here in the forests, we demand to be allowed to return to the seas!" Admiral Tial exclaimed boldly.

"What of the Moon Elves? So much attention has been given to the Wood and Sun Elves. How many centuries must we wait to be shown the same agency?"

Aurum followed close behind in silence, watching the scene of chaos unfold as the Wardens hounded Ellario, following him through the aisles of the Royal Archives. While the others talked at the King, she watched the young elf tense up. "Perhaps we should..."

"Silence! All of you!" Ellario stamped his foot and an explosion of magic sent the wardens tumbling backward out of the aisle as book were thrown about, flung into the air. As the tomes and texts came crashing to the ground, Ellario turned to glare down at the Wardens. They were all in shock and as they helped one another up off the floor, they stared at the King with a hint of disdain and confusion. "I will settle the people, protect the World Tree, and find some way to make all of you happy." Annoyance was prevalent in the King's tone and in the stare he sent their way. "But I will make no progress towards anything while you all cloud my thoughts with your nagging and whining."

Several days later, Ellario would appear on the elve's closed network broadcast system. His face appeared on their television and his voice came out of their radios. "Greetings, citizens of the World Tree forests." It was rare for the King to appear to them in this manner so everyone was tuned in, even businesses came to a stand still.

"For centuries we have all lived together, coexisting under the World Tree's branches, and this unity makes us stronger. I know we have been faced with many challenges these past seasons, but we have faced worse. We have survived for a millennia for a purpose and small dilemmas such as cultural differences or discomfort will not, cannot be our undoing." The camera zoomed out to reveal the elven throne and the Wardens positioned around it, standing steadfast at their King's side.

"The Demon threat looms ever present and reports are coming in of sighting around the world. The hour draws near where we will again face our greatest enemy and this time we will not fail. The World Tree has put its faith in us since the dawn of elfkind and it was not mistaken in that choice. Times have been hard, but I promise that the Wardens and I are working not only towards the annihilation of the demon plague, but also the eternal happiness of every elf." Throughout the forest elves started to nod their heads in approval and understanding, some even applauding.

"So as we prepare for war, I ask that everyone lend their aid in whatever way possible and let us meet the darkness head on, together."

The Forest was more silent that it had ever been in the past as the mind of every elf shifted from self indulgences to the greater good.

[Post Theme] - Dexrus - October

    1. All units will overwatch.

  • Current Stat Bonus: (+1/+4) Next turn: (+1/+5)

The Clouds of Bridged Reality: An inverted spire attached to an exposed part of the Upside Down that sports multiple bridges leading outside of Dexrus. Civilians and other Konomi may come and deposit materials of this world to be converted into usable resources for Konomi use. Its reverberations slowly add additional energy into the surrounding environment allowing sustainability minded gathering to slowly add resources over time.

Ability: +5 Resources for each civilian manned the Bridge of Reality (Just the building, not the settlement)
    --
Manned by 2 Oracles of Dust, 1 Mimic Object.

    -----

Prophetic Prism: An aerial construction of three equilateral triangles where air units dock and recharge their dimensional energies. The prism hangs in the air seemingly supported by nothing. Though, that is hardly the case. The prism removes the upkeep of air units stationed at the settlement built upon with a limit of 5.

Ability: Only reduces Espionage in the city it is located, not all cities by -1
    --
Manned By 1 Oracle of Dust.

    ----

The Laboratory at the End of Creation: At the End of Creation, isolation testing and development of new technologies can be done without contamination from Old Creation and the many dimensions. If the Konomi were to survive, they would need to keep the pace of technological development they have been experiencing. A portal to the end with specialized dimensional anchors to equipment to be used as normal with vat tubes of the End to test designs and mixtures. Unlocks the ability to perform research. Pay resources at checkpoints called project. Once full cost is paid. Project is complete.

Ability: Laboratory’s small bonus ability will be a +10 flat resource generated a turn to its project (So it will slowly research itself if left alone).

THE AUTONOMOUS COLLECTIVE OF MELKAChapter Seven: Septunumbra

Stained Glass 1.png
The advance party was making good progress, the might of PROVIDENCE and the recent advances in dimensional technology (or, as the forerunners of this movement unfortunately call it, D-tech) allowing them to stretch their supplies much further. This support allowed them to travel far further than anyone in the Collective has in over 500 years. The distance and relative fragility of their presence has begun to weigh on the troupes' minds, however, and morale was wearing thin.

At least, that's what Balgrum's morale officer said was the cause of all the mishaps lately. He, like much of the crew, didn't believe it. When the troupe awoke one night to a night deeper than any they'd seen since they've left the Darkness weeks ago (and even then), he decided this foul play needed to be investigated.

A day's thorough investigation beneath the ashen pines and twisted oaks that had so suddenly sprung from the earth found that Leshies had a fair bit of seeds and fruit stored from back home in a few more compartments of the Correspondent suits than they were assigned. A few pilots also reported the feeling that they were being watched, which, he mused, was not a terribly useful report when traversing the lands with a horde of man-sized spiders. The spiderlings seemed fond of the woods, at any rate, and had set up some traps in the night, which caught little except the drifting shadows.

Shaking it off, Balgrum ordered his men to be more alert and less superstitious. If the Leshies wanted to grow a forest overnight, that was probably a good thing. KADISH needs their nerves for the journey ahead.

LOG# A007

LOG OF: ANDERS, WILLIAM
POSITION: RESOURCE MANAGER ABOARD THE S.S. FERRIERI
DATE: 192 DAYS SINCE THE SINKING OF THE S.S. DAVISII

LOG START...

A Turn post.png

Seven days into his stay aboard the S.S. Ferrieri and Anders feels like he’s floundering, pardon the pun, of course. He simply fails to understand it, they receive some helpful city planning tips from the Order, and suddenly the inner circle thinks that miracles can be done. (City planning? Are these ships cities now? Feels a bit too sparsely populated to be considered a city, if you ask him. Even the Davisii.) Vehicle bays and research labs and trading ports and greenhouses, and who knows what more. There simply is not enough room on this ship. Not even the Davisii, Heitris’ favorite pet project, would be able to store all this, much less maintain any useable amount of floor space once the equipment is installed. Granted, being able to swim in nearly every room means floor space isn’t quite so important anymore, but it’s the mentality that counts. Truly.

Of course, he’s still been getting updates and demands over the repairs onboard the Davisii. All week long his inbox has been flooded, pardon the pun, thanks to the newest round of “All hands on deck,” construction. On top of all that, the inner circle has been meeting nearly every day to work towards a resolution on this “insensitive commentary,” issue that’s arisen. A serious matter, of course, but hard to focus on with so many other issues demanding his time. Speaking of, he ought to block off some time to attend that auction this month, perhaps that young man from New Avalon won’t be interested in the same item this time. Too much to do, too much to do.

“At least the sun’s out today,” he says to no one in particular. No one is even around, really. He can just spot someone a short distance away taking in the sights from outside. Does he know them? No, he decides after a moment too long of staring, and chooses not to dwell on them. Whoever they are, they’re just lucky that they got their move request processed so quickly. The Ferrieri landed on a wide expanse of sand dunes, so naturally the first technicians on the scene had to perform double duty and plant the first seeds in this area as well. A miracle how quickly they grew out here, especially given how gloomy it’s been all week. Now, though, that work has been handed off, and it’s those same technicians he has to speak with next. Not one to waste his own time, Anders heads off in the direction of the makeshift moon pool aboard the ship.

He hears the room far before he lays eyes on it. The sound of power tools and muffled, cheerful voices letting him know he’s in the right part of the ship. The airlock finishes draining and the bulkhead door swings open slowly, still impacting with the wall despite recent recalibration. Hanging from the ceiling, waist and legs dipped below the surface of the pool of water, is the recently updated Eye-Ess-Eye-En- the, the Unit #1 vehicle. Milling about are the two dozen lizard people (far shorter than he previously thought,) that followed the mech after finally being permitted leave from the volcano. He hears them chatting idly off to the side joyfully, while a few holding power tools seem to be hard at work performing routine maintenance to the Unit. It takes him a moment, but he spots Mr. Genetas sitting at the far end, and manages to catch his attention before heading over.

“Mr. Anders. To what do I owe this early visit, Heitris said you were running behind. Three days behind actually,” the elven ex-pilot is the picture of relaxation. At some point someone must have dragged a beat-up old couch into the room, with a matching decrepit coffee table, as he is currently sprawled across the makeshift break room as one of the lizards dozes on one of the cushions.

“Everything’s getting shifted around what with- wait, why would Heitris pass on that information to you?” Anders’ voice takes on a shrill tone, crossing his arms in front of his chest. Slowly, of course, he’s punched the metal spike sticking out of it one too many times with that particular gesture.

“The man rambles when he’s angry, or tired. And he’s been quite a lot of both recently. Plus, I’ve been stuck listening to him. Feel bad for that kid he sent up on land though, what’s his name?” Genetas snaps his fingers a few times, trying to conjure up the name out of thin air, startling the kobold into wakefulness in the process. Anders considers it thin air, since he personally knows no record of the drone controller’s real name has been published since he volunteered to be televised.

“Remy.” Anders answers shortly, knowing full well he has the records to check for the actual answer if he so chose. When Genetas opens his mouth to prod him further for gossip Anders cuts him off in short order, “Yes, real shame. But that’s what happens with tests, can’t all be successful. He walked into the belly of a real beast and managed to walk back out again, himself all in one piece. I certainly consider that a win. He will be, of course, reassigned once he’s cleared from the Davisii’s medical bay,” Anders pauses and glares at Genetas, still looking vaguely smug on the couch, “So I would not expect to hear any more gossip concerning him in your current area of work.”

The elf throws his hands up in mock defeat, “Sure, sure. Message received and all that. What can the lads and I do for you anyways?” From the middle of the room two lizard heads poke out above the water and call out something in rapid succession towards Genetas, who fires off a quick two word response, sending them back into the water. It was far too quick, and started with far too many words starting with the exact same letter for his own P.D.A. to translate on the fly.

Electing to ignore that interaction, he deadpans, “Your report is late; I am here to inform you that it must be submitted at your earliest availability.”

“You’ve got to be shitting me,” Genetas grumbles as he peels himself off of the couch.

“No. I don’t- haven’t got to be,” Anders stumbles over his wording slightly, trying for all the world to look stern and disproving, even as he now has to look up to the elf. “You know how important this first remote expedition was; we need that data and your perspective on it.”

“Right, right. Well good on you for marching all the way over here to try shaking it out of me, but I’ve got work to be getting back to. You know, repairing the giant robot and all. So it’ll make its way to you at, say, my earliest convenience,” Genetas backs up out of the conversation, and with an award worthy leap and subsequent dive, disappears into the water to join the lizards in whatever they’re working on.

Anders, for his part, maintains his look of stern disapproval for the following minute until it becomes clear that Genetas isn’t coming back, and that the lizards are ignoring him. Holding in an undignified huff, he marches back across the room, opening his P.D.A. on the way to shoot out a message to the rest of the inner circle. Reading:

[I tried : / ]

As he leaves back through the airlock, he closes his P.D.A. and ends the log in the process.

Research Lab:
Organized by the research division, headed under Heitris, this building helps expedite the development and testing process of new technologies. Once per turn, as a free action, a new template may be constructed at the cost of half the resources needed to construct one unit.
Vehicle Bay: This bay may hold 5 vehicles constructed by the Followers of Hel'Copin. By attuning the machinery to care for only similar types of vehicles, upkeep is negated while these types of vehicles are docked in the settlement.
Manufacturing Bay: Truly a work of automated precision, this bay may create +1 vehicle per recruit vehicle action.
Tuning Lab: The path to perfection is never done, at least, not for the elf named Heitris. Any vehicle constructed in this settlement may have one additional keyword. This keyword must be the same for every unit of the same template.

Trading Port:
Allows for trade routes to form and trade to take place with other nations.
Magistrati Enclave: Allows for trade with Magistrati, grants +1 Order and +1 Happiness.

Meat for the Beast: Hel’copin manifests themself in ways that are strange, and still unknown even to the cult that worships them. The Followers of Hel’copin may sacrifice resources to the eldritch beast in exchange for their protection. (When activated roll a 1d10, on a 1 or 2 the effect acts in the reverse as a debuff.)

Every turn the Followers of Hel’Copin must spend Resources every turn as a sacrifice to their shark-like god. At the cost of these resources they may ask Hel'copin to manifest the following effects:

(10) Resources, Aura of Faith: Around the settlement the sacrifice took place in, this settlement rebuffs any non-followers from entering, but a group may still force their way past the aura. (Settlement becomes immune to espionage for 3 turns.)

(20) Resources, Impassable Fog: select a sea tile. It becomes shrouded in a dense, almost palpable fog that seems to restrict one’s movement. It costs double movement to move through the affected tile. This can be manifested on multiple tiles per time used.

(30) Resources, Sea Brought Blight: Even the creatures of the sea are not safe from Hel’copin’s wrath, one hex within x hexes of the settlement the sacrifice took place in is afflicted with a surge of toxic water, hindering its ability to generate resources.

(60) Resources, Wrath of the Sea: One hex within x hexes of the settlement the sacrifice took place in is afflicted with terrible storms. All units within that hex are attacked by Hel’copin. Additionally, this power may reach a land hex that is one to two hexes inland, as Hel’copin sends a tsunami to batter those places.

(80) Resources, March From the Sea: Hel’copin causes the water to raise and rock to crumble, as one hex on the coast becomes converted to ocean. This cannot effect a hex with a settlement on it, but it can effect hexes with units on them.

Heart of the Machine: In anticipation of their full embracement of the sea, there are some followers who fear that they will be wholly unable to act should the need arise to strike out against those on land. The research division has presented a solution: Drones! Vehicles constructed by the Followers retain their amphibious keyword, but are unable to operate more than 4 hexes away from their cities (or allied cities). A unit with the Drone Controller keyword may count as a settlement for this purpose. In addition, vehicles constructed by the Followers of Hel'copin are now immune to any effects that target a creature's mind or emotions.

Proposed keyword: Drone Controller [5]

With roads and pathways snaking and winding like it's namesake in every direction, Imugi Square, the crossroads at the centre of the city was always busy, Attracting thousands of visitors and business people from all over the world, not one of them could stop themselves from being pulled away for a few moments as the greatest show on the planet neared.

Billboards and monitors all across the Square promoted the upcoming World Tour, playing carefully edited videos of it's headlining stars performances in their private studio alongside a live feed as the Idols continued their practice. Impromptu interviews arranged by Golden Gate's second in command with the stars, brought life to these high status individuals, with the Trainees detailing little slices of their own lives. and their mentors Green/Gold and Lucille in Chains singing their maknaes praises alongside their own personal commentary.

With such vehement backing and support for the upcoming World Tour and it's stars the hype was massive. All across the boardwalks and streets, businesses cashed in to the hype, from the smallest shops to the biggest brands. Such as Laughing God Attire having 'Once it's Gon, it's Gon' sales, selling off fashion for marginally lower prices that Dre himself wore or liked or famous restaurant chain Cleaver promoting it's latest dishes of Stonejang and the Original Hunter's Feast in honour of the Rapper.

And at the very heart of the district, Golden Gate Records kept feeding this hype machine. The largest building in all of the city, it was like everything those who worked there wanted to be, glitzy, glamourous and influential.

From the outset the tower itself was made to be a timeless piece of architectural engineering, it's foundations carved from the very stone their ancient ancestors, the Yamabuki used, and slowly floor by floor transforming into a modern wonder, mimicking the myths of old. In all weather the Golden Gate Building was a symbol to the nations ideals. In the brilliant light of summer, the building's windows reflected light like a magnificent golden gem. In the spring rain, the tower became like a tranquil waterfall, it's many lifts and elevators akin to the determined Koi who journey upwards against the falls and transcended to mighty Dragons. And in the harsh winds as autumn gave way to winter, the building stood unflinching and resolute in it's duties to it's people.

Near the very top, the largest screen in the world, often detailing world events and celebrity news, flicked to a massive timer. Displaying a tremendous digital thirty days, the clock steadily ticked down.

The countdown had officially begun...!

Weaknesses

As the shuttle craft carrying Adrienne, Ishiro and their "passsengers" landed in the hangar, Fargus was already there to greet them. Adrienne climbed out of the craft first and was visibly shocked to see him. "Oh! Master! I did not expect to see you here." The Priestess of Hate held the disembodied head of the monstrous woman in one hand and so used her body to hide it from view.

"And why not, priestess?" Fargus raised an eyebrow. "I am most eager to hear how your meeting with the SONG went. Did they deliver as promised?"

"Well... Monyet Dukun... you see..." Adrienne said, trying to find a way to explain what had occurred in a more positive light for her. She was interrupted as the body of the SONG's male representative was thrown from the aircraft and landed on the floor behind her with a loud thud, followed closely behind the remains of the female one. Ishiro jumped out of the craft after them, either oblivious or simply uncaring about the problem he had caused for the Dark Priestess.

Fargus rubbed his eyes, expecting this might happen. "At least, tell me you heard them out first?"

"Of course, master!" Adrienne asserted. "But the two of them demanded we join them before they would share their secrets with us. I knew you would not stand for that and so I merely attempted to "persuade" them as best I could. Then the woman turned into a monster and attacked me!" Adrienne showed her attacker's head to Fargus. "See for yourself!"

Fargus looked the grotesque thing over. "Is this true, Tagara?"

"Essentially, master."

"And this cut, so clean and precise, your handiwork I presume?" Fargus asked, examining the woman's wound.

"Yes."

"Well then you have both my compliments and my thanks, samurai." Fargus looked directly at the Avenging Blade. "By protecting my beloved priestess from harm, you have a gone a long way in repaying your father's debt to me. I can also see that I have been squandering your formidable talents. From now on, rather than simply training my troops for battle, I want you right there on the field alongside them."

Fargus turned his attention to the corpses of the dead SONG members. "We may not of gotten what we wanted from these two in life but I suspect in death they will be far more forthcoming with their secrets. Mwahahaha!"

The construction continued inside the city of Lostla as General Telmen released yet another order of the day calling for increased arms, ration, and cloth production in the city. Construction crew, by now old hands at building factories, erect buildings in weeks now instead of days, and the normally quiet forests are filled with the sounds of hammers and machinery. It is clear to many inside the legion that they were finally beginning to fulfill their purpose to the World Tree.

Deep below the scientists continued their work. Though they were rattled by the recent rebellion they are nonetheless dedicated to improving the defenses around the world tree which meant finding an appropriate replacement for the elf clones they had corrupted into genesis troops. Rumors circulated that two battalions of genesis troops had been placed under the direct command of a genesis soldier, a first in the history of the Legion. Apparently the High Lieutenant himself had made the move and no one had attempted to prevent him. The High General Telmen had voiced a concern over letting a Genesis trooper take charge of their own kind, but ultimately had refrained from intervening. He placed ultimate responsibility on Letel. All of this in spite of the two battalions apparently openly rebelling just days prior.

The Quartermaster General Alanthia had apparently made quite the fuss to Telmen about the move however, saying that the specialized equipment of the two genesis battalions had been requisitioned without proper approval and was outside of the budget. Telmen had brushed off the remark. He had reportedly told her that the expense had been covered by the World Tree and that such directives fell in line with the King's commands regarding the treatment of Genesis Troops.

Despite disasters of recent regarding the movement of troops the two new cloned companies were given orders to join the 2nd Army and prepare to move. According to intelligence the World Tree had word of Demons in the South and had mobilized all available forces to deal with the threat. Just as before troops formed into Battalions and marched out with full packs, rifles shouldered. The Sword of the World Tree was on the move.

The jackboots of a guard clad in black tramped down the concrete road. He bore no insignias, and every inch of his body was covered in black body armor or black wraps, and his face was obscured by a helmet with a mirrored visor. A bullpup rifle hung from his chest with a tri-point sling, and he lazily held it in place with his cybernetically augmented hands.

He was guarding a convoy of dozens of drugged goblins of all ages and stages of life. Eventually the convoy reached an unmarked building constructed of steel and concrete. Automatic doors slid open, and the scent of bleach emanated out in a wave.

“Where….where the hell am I? Is this about my gambling debts? I told ya! I’d have yer money in a few weeks” a male goblin said woozily.

A distorted voice cracked from the guard’s helmet. “You are now in a labor camp. You will work until your debts are paid off.”

The goblin shook his head and schmoozed up close to the guard. “Wha? Man that sounds hard…how about I tell you how to hack some ATMs for a shitload of credits? Name’s Axeman by the way.” Axeman had a coughing fit that lead to retching from the tranquilizer.

The guard did not respond, and continued leading the goblin convoy towards a large shower room. “This is to prevent the spread of disease and outside contaminants. Strip down and get in.”
1677311228392.pngMany of the goblins exchanged confused glances, and complied. Drugs clouded their mind, and hid the true absurdity of this situation. The showers roared up and harsh chemicals spat from the showerheads. The younger goblins protested as the foul smelling liquids coated their body. After the initial wave of chemicals, a wave of freezing cold water washed everything off.

Axeman’s prodigious use of drugs inhibited the tranquilizers a bit, and the shower made him deeply uneasy. When the others were getting out of the showers, he walked up to the guard and nervously tapped his fingers together. “H-hey man, are you sure this is just a labor camp?”

“Follow me, we are now going to vaccinate you against Red Fever.”

At this point, any sane person could realize this was not a labor camp. The guards were silent, armed to the teeth, and brimming with cybernetic augments. Axeman had seen labor camps. They had underpaid guards who were armed with stun batons and cheap body armor- not state of the art assault rifles with 20,000 credit optics. This place was in the middle of nowhere too, instead of a more characteristic industrial sector. It looked nothing like the open mining facilities or toxin-spewing factories like other labor camps. What’s worse was how nauseatingly clean everything was; it felt like a hospital.

This realization was enough to send a wave of panic through Axeman’s spine. Something bad was going to happen. He punched the guard in the groin as hard as he could and started to run through the concrete halls. His heart sank when he heard rapid, inhuman mechanical whirring behind him. Within three seconds the guard was bearing down on him. The guard grabbed Axeman with the crook of his arm. Axeman felt like a gazelle in the clutches of a steel boa constrictor.

“You will comply, we own you. Red Fever is a serious disease that must be treated. I will now escort you to the administration facility.”

The guard carried Axeman through winding and confusing halls. Axeman felt like they were going deeper and deeper into the earth. Any hopes he had about this place being a labor camp were crushed. This felt like a nightmare. He prayed and prayed to the gods he’d wake up from a drug induced trance, as his heart pounded and mind raced for ways to escape. “You’re a survivor,” he thought to himself. “Remember when you tricked those boostergangs into letting you go? This is the same thing.”

Axeman spoke up, trying his best to sound confident. “Look man, I doubt these guys are paying you shit. You gotta wrangle a bunch of goblins. Really? You’re a babysitter. I can make you so much more money. Just follow my advice man.”

The guard did not reply.

Panic began to slip into Axeman’s voice, as his confident facade quickly broke. “I know you can hear me. I know bad shit is gonna happen to me down there. Look, if they’re gonna do bad shit to me, they could easily do bad shit to you. Get out of here while you can. You have a family? You have a name?”

The guard did not reply.

Eventually they reached a concrete room with a metal table in the middle. A dragonborn woman was writing on a clipboard when the duo walked in. Axeman noted a distinct lack of technology down here.
1677311504507.pngThe metal table sent Axeman’s mind into overdrive, and animalistic instincts kicked in. First he screamed. Then he bit the guard’s arms as hard as he could; so hard in fact, he shattered a couple teeth. The bite took the guard by surprise, and Axeman was able to wriggle out. Before he could run the guard grabbed him with blindingly fast reflexes.

The dragonborn woman huffed. “I thought they were supposed to be sedated.” She growled in draconic.

“Apologies Dr. Kanaan, the tranquilizer does not work on some subjects it seems. I recommend we put in a request for something stronger,” he replied in draconic.

The alien language this macabe situation even more stressful for Axeman. “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GONNA DO TO ME” he yelled with blood dripping out of his mouth.

Great, another variable we have to account for. I’ll have to administer antibiotics in case of oral infection. Just great boys. Another fucking setback. First they tell me no computers. Now they’re sending me damaged meat. I just…I just can’t. This has got to be one of the worst days ever,” yelled Dr. Kanaan, throwing her arms up in exasperation.

The guard quickly restrained Axeman, ignoring his pleas. “You will have amnestics administered at the end of this assignment. You won’t remember any of it, Dr. Kanaan.”

She shrugged and began putting IVs into a screaming Axeman. Then she drew a syringe from a metal tray and injected the goblin with it.

“I-is this the vaccine? Can I go now?” Axeman asked, tears swelling at the sides of his eyes.

“Hah, vaccine. That’s a good one. I’ll have to remember that.”

The next few weeks were Axeman’s personal hell. They escorted him to a jail cell and tossed him in. The first meal they fed him was basic gruel with water. Axeman hungrily ate it up. Within a week he had developed an awful cough. It felt nonstop, and kept him awake at night. Axeman was eventually afraid to swallow from how bad his throat hurt.

By the second week, he tore his vocal chords coughing, and he was hacking up bits of red. The complete lack of stimulation was driving him mad, his only social interaction was the people with clipboards that would come in and ask him questions about how he felt.

Eventually he started talking to the guard that had been with him the whole time. The guard never responded, but Axeman didn’t care. Axeman would raspily talk about inane topics. His chats eventually got more and more deranged as time passed. Whether it was from his disease or from the isolation, he didn’t know. Axeman talked about his funniest gambling stories, his legendary hookups, and his favorite books. Talking got harder and harder. It felt like a fire was spreading through Axeman’s lungs and heart, but he kept talking.
1677311416999.pngOn Axeman’s final night, he fell into a deep sleep. In his dreams, he saw a adorable black cat curled up against his chest. It purred and made him feel safe. The cage door was somehow unlocked, and the guard was gone. Axeman used his remaining strength to pull himself up. The cat playfully batted at Axeman, then trotted through the door and left the room. Axeman smiled and followed the cat as far as he could. Eventually he collapsed on the floor, and the cat curled up against his chest one last time. It felt like a longtime friend. Axeman smiled and felt safe for the first time in ages. No gambling debts, no running from the law, no sickness. The scene slowly faded, and the last thing Axeman saw was the kitty.

The guard noticed Axeman stirring in his sleep, before falling motionless. He called in the eggheads, and they pronounced him dead. He quickly found Dr. Kanaan. “I would like to be given amnestics, I am unfit to keep doing this for my entire rotation.”

Dr. Kanaan sighed. “Well at least you’re honest about being a pushover. I thought you were cleared for this kind of work, but I guess not. I’ll be telling the higherups to take you off the lower decks roster.”

The guard did not respond.

“What, did you get attached to a test subject?” Dr. Kanaan said, making her voice mockingly babyish. “Aww did the wittle cyber soldier feel bad for the apocalypse causing monstrosity?

The guard did not respond.

“Look this little non responsive act might work on goblins with an IQ of 30, but you’re not fooling me. You realize most of them can’t even read right?”

The guard did not respond.

Dr. Kanaan huffed and crossed her arms. “Whatever, I’ll have you escorted out here and given amnestics. Hopefully you replacement doesn’t cry after a single posting. You know what we do to the pregnant ones? Ah, whatever. No point, I’ve got shit to do.”

A young woman who appeared to be in her early twenties was skipping forward, her bright, vibrant shirt was only outdone by her glowing green hair that bounced along with every skip and framed startling pale skin. Pink lips were curled in a smile as she went, the woman came to a skidding halt and flipped her glowing hair over her shoulder and gave a smile so bright it nearly outdid the hair, "Hi, I know, I know, I must be some perky elf with her vibrant hair that looks like it came from another dimension," she said with a roll of her eyes but, slowly, almost playfully, she lifted her neon hair to show rounded ears, "But you'd be wrong, I'm human."

"Now, I know what you're saying, that hair is probably synthetic or transplanted from an Elf," she said as she turned to walk, the drab background being washed away to show a beautiful lush park as she strolled down the street, "Or maybe that I spent a fortune in creds to get this done by a professional , but you'd be wrong again!"

The world zoomed in on the small bottle she held in her hand, a woman that had a similar vibrant neon glow on the white box, "I used Nutri-Vibe! A revolutionary new hair dye that gives you the bright, beautiful, 'notice me now!' hair of the elves without using bleach and other chemicals that damage it! You know what it also does? It uses ChemiTouches patented formula to moisturize and help hair as it dyes! That's right! Get brighter, beautiful hair and make it happy while you do it! Isn't that awesome?"

"And this product is in the middle of being approved by the Gaalvax Health Federation! Isn't that awesome!? I know, I know, its crazy, but hey, it works, and I've been a proud use of Nutri-Vibe and hey, its worked for me, so lets start a revolution girl! You and me! And take this city by storm with a new, beautiful you!"

Small letters ran across the bottom of the screen, 'this product has not yet passed consumer safety guidelines'. Spokeswoman is a paid actor and is not a consumer of Nutri-Vibe. Nutri-Vibe may cause hair loss, rectal bleeding, dry skin, dry mouth, heart palpitations, hair thinning, extreme weight loss, extreme weight gain, stroke, explosive diarrhea, explosive projectile vomit, and in some rare cases, death.

The large lab was filled with rows upon rows of men and women strapped to beds and restrained. Their screams was almost deafening as large mechanical arms moved around them, cutting and slicing away flesh to replace it with cybernetic components, injecting them with strange liquid and replacing their bodies with more efficient mechanical components. How long had they been strapped to those beds? Hours? Days? The work never seemed to end or pause as the screams continued making a disjointed, but horrid, chorus that echoed off the pristine walls. Large tanks continued to pump and take liquids from their bodies, replacing them? Adding more? It was hard to tell. The work was somehow both chaotic and orderly. The speed and tempo of the machines never changed, each working perfectly in sync, the pumps and replacements never miss a beat, but each person was a bit different. A bit different in their screams, a bit different in their writhing, a bit different in how their bodies contorted against the bonds that held them. Welts on their flesh as blood trickled from broken spots where they ripped and tore their own skin on the restraints. Small undead servitors stumbled forth, here and there, to bandage and close the wounds..

"As you can see," a woman with thick glasses and a large white coat, "Your ordered improvements are under way. Sub-dermal implants, ocular implants, redundant nervous systems, synthetic organs and enlarged adrenal glands will make your Enforcers stronger, tougher, better in every way. This is the Cyberlink Solutions Guarantee."

The doctor tilted her head as if trying to remember something before she jumped up, "Oh! All the screaming, yes, dreadful racket isn't it? Sadly, they all requested that we use no analgesics but did request we keep them 'awake' during every moment of the operation so they could.. delight in the agony. I see no delighting, personally I'd tell them to just throw some creds down at the red light district, but I was urged to accept their request in the name of 'future prosperity' or something similar."

The doctor waited a bit for the tattooed man, his head was shaven and he had numerous 'piercings', although calling them piercings was disingenuous. They were hooks. Hooks connected to his pectoral muscles, to run along his arms, down his legs, to the tip of his toes buried under the nail itself.. each connected by a thin, strong chain that was pulling the flesh taught and ran back to a large central ring that had been implanted around his spine and protruded out of his back like a demented bull ring... The doctor could only imagine the pain even simply movements would have much less if they were caught on anything, but the bald man had only shivered with pleasure as they ascended stairs and walked down hallways.. The Cult of Excess were a bunch of freaks and she was not into it. But a paying customer was a paying customer.

"We have already prepared a platoon of Cyberlink Solutions Secutiry to face your new and improved Enforcers so you can see the upgrades in person, but before we proceed, do you have any questions for me?" the doctor asked as she lifted her watch to prepare to double check her notes if needed.

"Just one, my dear," the man said with an odd voice as his forked tongue that appeared to have been crudly slit by some dull blade, licked past his lips, "Can I try some of that?" he asked as he gestured towards the enforcers.

"Um, if you have the credits and make an appointment, I'm sure I can work you in.."

"Perfect."

A hovering bus was slowly being boarded by a large line of goblins. Men, women and even some children. They had backpacks, suitcases and dufflebags tucked under their arms or on their backs as they boarded to then file out and towards their seats. While such buses were not uncommon, what was uncommon was to see the long line of nothing but goblins..

"Daddy, do you have to go?" A small goblin girl said, her arms wrapped around the body of a tall goblin, her head buried into his waist as tears spilled down her face, her chest sobbing from hitched breaths and gasp of air.

"Yes, sweetie, but I won't be gone long.." The goblin man said as he ran his hand through her dark red hair, "Hey, hey, Neesa, look at me," he softly urged as the child slowly pulled her face back up to look at her father.

"I'll be back, I'm your dad! And there isn't anything anyone could keep me from you! This is just a temp job, I'll go, do some testing and be back before you know it and we will finally get that operation on your leg done! You'll be outside running and playing with the other kids in no time, just you wait," he said, a soft smile on his face as while he was trying to cheer her up, he also didn't want her to let go just yet. Yearning for just another moment with Neesa wrapped around him as it would be some months before he got to see his family again. But they needed the money and it was good money and if anything happened to him, his family would be further reimbursed..

"I don't want to play with other kids!" Neesa said defiantly as her small hands clenched and knotted his shirt, "We can just go home! A-And you can read to me like you do, a-and mom can make us banana bread a.."

"Neesa, your dad will be back," a comely goblin woman said as she reached out to gently squeeze her daughter's shoulders before she looked up at her husband, tears lurking behind her deep brown eyes, eyes that begged him to change his mind. To leave this job, to come home even as she knew they needed the money, that they had no other choice, that a contract had already been signed but something in her chest hurt. Something felt wrong..

"Neesa," he said softly as he pushed her back so he could look into her clear blue eyes, the same eyes he had.. "You're going to have to be strong now, okay? For your mom. She needs you. She's not as tough as we are and ready to slay the demons," he added with a wink, ignoring how his wife rolled her eyes but the small smile that drifted across her lips despite herself.

"B-But,"

"No buts, I love you so much honey, and I'll see you again very, very soon! Before you even know it," he promised as he bent down to kiss her tear stained cheek before handing her over to his wife who scooped her up.

She took a step closer and kissed him as his arms wrapped around the both of them, giving them one, final, long hug, "Nothing can keep your dad away from you, sweetie."

His blue eyes met his wife's deep brown ones and spoke of the love he had, through the hardships they had suffered, his love for her had never wavered. His candle in the darkness of Gaalvax that brought him safely home, "I love you."

"I love you," she whispered back, a tear slipping free to run down her green face and fall into Neesa's hair.

He took a step back, lifted his dufflebag and stepped onto the bus, pausing to looking back for a single, final moment before he gave them a smile and disappeared onto the bus.

....

...

...

Neesa never saw her father again.

She's doing better at managing the happiness of her people than she anticipated. Now they can consider more ways to explore the world outside of this little island. After all, they should greet their neighbors in person.

First comes arming the Selkie population. They're already a decent force, but disorganized and untrained, they're about as dangerous as a normal pod of seals. This will do them better.

Secondly, their normal soldiers need their armor reworked. They've been grounded, which is hardly tactical, and has been irritating them.

The Eternal Legion

Colonel.png
Colonel Gripus 'Iceheart' Congrio

"Let's move, let's move!" Gripus ordered those around him, dragging supplies alongside other members of the Legion. As he glanced around, he ignored the shadowy images and people who moved alongside the men and women working with him. With a final grunt he shoved the last of his pile of boxes into the jeep, not reacting as one of the shadow men began 'moving' it further in. "Get those supplies loaded up ASAP!"

The Colonel rushed away, heading in the direction of the medical structure and near breaking the door as he forced it open. "Hurricane! Your ass better be -"

Blood splattered the wall as his friend lashed a scalpel, opening the throat of the man fighting him. With a sinister glee the medic continued to fight alongside him, scalpel in one hand and a pistol in the other as the duo fought back to back.

"-ready to move!"

"Almost ready Gripus! I'm securing the last patients now!" The doctor called back to his friend even as he tightened the straps on the gurney in front of him, ensuring that the woman covered in casts wouldn't be jostled in transit.

"Good we need to get out of here as-"

The rope tightened around Gripus's wrists, the man known to many as 'Icebreath' looking down at him with a small frown. "And just what do we have here? Two boys who don't seem to know how to die."

"Piss off you bastard!" Carsten growled the words at the man, struggling in his bonds next to his friend with one eye blackened.

"-soon as possible!" Gripus nodded to the duo of young men helping the Lieutenant Colonel, signaling for them to take the gurney. "Grab only essential gear from here, the mountain is still coming back around and we need to get Rupes moving away from it as fast as we can. I've already left Grogen in charge of our forces here and she knows that we will be meeting up with whatever forces can make it out of here. From there we will regroup and try to get fucking Fafrium support."

"Good, as long as we have the pills we can make do. I'll get it packed up here, you go take one of the jeeps and get the line moving already. I know you are seeing that day already, and the shadows, and there aren't any enemies you can fight here to settle that," Even as he spoke the doctor was quickly packing up a case with bottles upon bottles of pills, both over the counter and those that many nations would consider to be illegal. "We don't need you ripping apart our own men right now."

"You aren't wrong, damn it all! Fine, stay safe and get out of here Hornberger or so help me I will hunt you down and kill you myself," As the colonel left the room as quickly as he had come into it, he never noticed as smoke began to slowly leak from his eyes.

Magistrati Turn 06

The Whispering Tower
Countless mages gathered along either side of a long purple carpet with silver runes inside the grand hall of the tower, all of it black marble to remind everyone the purpose of this place. The black marble polished to perfection, revealing more silver runes here and there in protective patterns. The tone was solemn, sad even as the various personnel of the Whispering Tower stood together to honor the death of a fallen comrade. Praetor Darkfeather like all but one of the Magisters were gathered at the far end where a funeral pyre awaited. It hurt many of them to see this happening, but there were anger as well. Anger at the Empire of Hate because they knew this brave soul had been tortured to death. They didn't even have his body, instead forced to do this ceremony in ritual effigy. It wasn't just a simple display, this was magick. To protect the soul of the fallen from the horrors beyond and the actions of those on this world. To let it go free to the next journey, perhaps even to another reality to live again.

The muted nature of the moment was suddenly broken by the doors of the grand hall opening. Magister Aldona Orisini entered in a suit of black and purple, carrying her cane like a scepter of state. Behind her, the sound of a deep and solmen funeral march began to play as she stepped forward. She moved to the drum beat as did the band behind her. Following them was the coffin, already prepared and marked, bearing the ritual items within to ensure the ceremony fulfilled its deeper task. Bonded carried the coffin but close friends and family followed behind.

No one spoke, only watching the march as some weeped while other looked on respectfully. The procession reaching the pyre soon enough as the band formed around the coffin as it was set upon it. Magister Aldona lifted her cane and silently cast a fire spell, igniting the fire in blue flame. No eulogy was given, for this was the Whispering Tower and all knew what had come to pass. The first honor plate had already been forged and placed to honor the lost operative.

As the fire burned, the funeral march shifted to something more energtic and intense. The fires roaring stronger and swirling as the ritual enacted itself with the music. Nothing would be left when they finished, ensuring the freedom of the soul of the fallen agent as the effigy did its work.

Praetor's Tower

Some time has passed since the funeral but the Magisters were all looking solemn for this meeting. Other events had begun dampening the hopes of the Magistarti for forging a peaceful world. The ETO was built of aggressive nations. The IU seemed to be moving along but at the same time a major conflict was still brewing. The war between Fafrium and Greater Titania weighed heavily upon them. Their efforts to help and forge new bonds rebuffed first by the Minza and then by the arrogant Titanians.

"How can we save this world when parts of it seem determined to jam their damn heads into the sand or fail to realize their actions WILL cause a war!" Roared out the Magister of Artifice, hammering the table.

"We always knew this wasn't going to be easy. This world has seen much strife," replied the Magister of Lore with a sad tone.

"So then, what do we do about it?" asked the Magister of Sky as she toyed with a model skyship that looks like some sort of prototype, multitasking as she preferred to do.

"Perhaps its time we found new ways to assert oursleves," Tellic Starsoul said as he regards the others. The others grew silent as they regarded the former Praetor and current head of the College of War. Tellic rarely spoke at council meetings, deferring to the Praetor and supporting his actions after having been deposed. His words carried weight.

"Go on, Tellic," said Praetor Darkfeather as he looked at his mentor with a slight nod. This was some something they had discussed in private together along with Magister Orsini.

"I believe we must begin consideration we might not be able to save this world and its various peoples. I propose plans to commence exploration and potential colonization of the Astral Sea or space as some non-magical scholars would call it. I've been talking with the Praetor about it ever since the Queen of Titania so flippantly dismissed us. We cannot stop wars. Yet. This project could grant use greater power over this world but also create the needed openings for us to save people and knowledge should this world plunge fully into self-extermination."

"How would we even manage that?" demand the Magister of Earth. "We have plenty of magitech but nothing of that scale. Plus won't others start to poke around?"

"We've taken this into consideration," Aldona Orsini said as she lit a cigarette to puff on while looking around the table. "Our Diplomatic Enclaves are perfectly position to conceal a great deal of our fabrication and development needs. Easily hidden amongst all the work they contribute to our various allies and trade partners. They'll be unlikely to complain as the increased intake of materials will result in additional profits for them considering what items we can barter or provide in return."

"Praetor Darkfeather, you can't be serious. Our mission is to bring peace, not waste countless resources of some absurd astral project," protested the Magister of Life.

"We are diplomats," Darkfeather said with a nod. "But its becoming clear our initial vision, my vision, was flawed since we fully stepped into the affairs of this world. Even our various partners are caught up in their own affairs. We see it with the Elves. CLS only is interested in its bottom line. Who knows what the others may be up to. Then the power blocs are forming. We have a responsibility to preserve knowledge and people as much as preserving peace."

Praetor Darkfeather looks to each face with a somber expression. "I will understand if one of you would choose to challenge me on this course change. But I ask that you consider the future. For this world and others. There are options we can explore perhaps if we look into this new line of research. If all else fails, we will ensure our descendants will survive beyond the death of this world if it ignites into pure madness... or become threatened by a major esoteric threat again like the Song or another damnable demon."

The Council grew silent, no challenge spoken. All there looked determined, perhaps to see what they could do for the future.

Project Astronomicon voted upon unanimously to proceed.

BoN Act 3: Modern Age

War

The drums of war began to metaphorically begin to pound as The Forces of Amonicus launched a forward strike against the Mercenary Horde of The Eternal Legion. The fighting was fierce and even with the Mimic Mountain causing death among the Mercenary forces, the airforce that had been sent to assist it was decimated and only succeeded in creating anger against the people of living artwork.

The Fafrium Empire prepared to launch a full scale invasion of Amonicus, sending out troops and mechanized vehicles while Greater Titania wished to rush The Fafrium Empire with its navy and long ranged magical troops as part of its deal made with Amonicus.

On the other front, The Fafrium Empire had struck an alliance with the ETO, which threatened to increase the size and scope of the fighting beyond what others had thought.

Could this be a World War? Would this lead to great disasters? Or will it be resolved quickly and quietly?

The die has been cast and only time will tell.

settlements defence bonus by 1 to a
minimum of zero. Once the bonus is zero,
every further token destroys a random

settlement, remove a token to represent
repairs to the defences. Only one
building on a settlement can be

infantry but -3/0 versus vehicles. Cannot
benefit from targeting keywords.
