FEELINGS ABOUT HUMANS: Due in part to her status as a half-blood, Maliyah is open towards humans. Friendly and cordial, she will never be rude to a human on account of them being a human- that goes against everything she fights for as an activist. She refuses to drink human blood, and subsists off of animal blood and the blood tablets. After the shortage however, she has turned exclusively to feeding on blood given to her by human friends. She's growing desperate, no doubt about that.

PERSONALITY: How Maliyah presents themselves is dependent on how she views you. If she can't stand you, expect her to be annoying, cold, and brash towards you, attempting to do anything she can to get on your nerves. It's almost as if she's a child who never grew up in these moments. If she gets on with you, she's loyal to a fault, willing to go through high tide just for her friends. A self proclaimed wild child, Maliyah loathes conformity, and attempts to stick out like a sore thumb in all she does. Perhaps this sprung up due to how she was frequently ignored by her mother in childhood. Easy-going, it's accurate to say Maliyah's head is up in the clouds, being an optimistic day-dreamer.
HISTORY/BACKGROUND:​
The Ahmed's. Wealth for decades. Maliyah's grandmother used to say that, even if all of them quit working and let the family business go to crap, they'd still be able to afford almost all of the finer things in life. Maliyah isn't sure how much of that was true or just the ramblings of an old woman who thought of herself as practically a god, but that statement perfectly encapsulates the family she came from. Maliyah was born to the youngest daughter of the Ahmed patriarch, Mina Ahmed, and a human, Rahim Khan, on a sweltering hot day. And she was born weak, illness plaguing her throughout her childhood. Her parents, her father especially, kept a close eye on her, treating her like a fragile piece of china that would shatter at every second.

Mina had been thrown out by her family after Maliyah was born- evidence of the tryst between her parents, no doubt. When she was younger, she'd beg her parents to give her a snippet of their love story, but they'd always pat her head and send her on her way. "That's a story for another day," was a common refrain used to deter her. Maliyah imagined their story to be one of love at first sight, a page taken out of Romeo and Juliet. And, like Romeo and Juliet, it ended in tragedy, as Maliyah's father died of a sudden illness when she was 5. She doesn't have too many memories of the years before her father's death, besides the constant supervision and the scarcity of their lifestyle. They had little, but they were happy.

The happy memories seem to end with their fathers death, as Maliyah's mother wallowed in her grief. The two of them live together for a bit, and Maliyah swears it's some of the worst years of her life. Her mother, seemingly overnight, had become neglectful and cruel towards Maliyah, imposing harsh standards towards her and berating her whenever she failed to live up to her expectations.

And then, one day, Maliyah's mother takes her on a trip. Not to anywhere particular, her mother said as they travelled through various towns, just to get away for a bit. For a week, the two of them acted like a mother and daughter again: they laughed together, and for the first time in a very, very long time, had fun.

All good things, however, had to come to an end. Remember the bit where Maliyah's mother told her they weren't going anywhere particular? Well, that was a massive lie, as her mother promptly dumped her at the Ahmed family mansion. As her grandmother told it, after years of not talking to each other, after Rahim died, her grandmother- Dadi, as she was called- approached her mother with an offer: she'd help out if Mina would return to the family. Drop off your daughter and look after your old mother, she said, and you can belong somewhere again.

And Mina, who was a businesswoman at heart, agreed. After that, Mina became a scarce figure in Maliyah's life, only seeming to appear to express disapproval in her daughters life decisions before going off on her merry way to do...whatever she did. Maliyah remembers her mentioning it once during the rare moments where her mother's interest in her daughter's life wasn't motivated by condescension and disappointment, but she's long forgotten it.

Maliyah was primarily raised by her grandparents after that, in the large family mansion deep in the heart of the forest. Her relationship with her grandmother was surprisingly positive, with the woman saying on more than one occasion that Maliyah reminded her when she was younger: a sweet, spunky child who wasn't afraid of telling it like it is. Maliyah's mother regularly commented on Dadi's sudden turnabout regarding Maliyah whenever she visited with no small hint of bitterness in her tone: wonderful that her mother finally decided to learn how to raise children years after her youngest had flown the coop. Dadi, for what it was worth, simply shrugged off the jabs each time. Her grandfather's feelings on her was far more of an enigma. Alternating between the age old stereotype of a gruff, loving old grandfather and a criticizing, disapproving tyrant, their relationship is rocky, with the two going long periods without talking to each other after an argument before joking with each other as though they were old friends.

Her aunts seemed to have enjoyed gossiping about each of her failures behind her back, as well as the scandal that had culminated in her birth like she wasn't there, but also had their moments of being sweet and genuinely caring about her well-being. Her uncles mostly ignored her existence, or talked about how much her dowry would cost when she would marry. Her cousins, and later her half-siblings, seemed to either bully her non-stop for being a half-blood, ignored her, or were protective of her. Case in point, her cousins Irene, Mahdi, and her half-sister Jessica. The four were close growing up, despite the age differences between each of them. As the years went by and they were flung about by life, they kept in contact with each other.

Being treated by a social pariah by the upper crust of Vampire society did a number on Maliyah's self-esteem growing up, and as a result she withdrew into herself, and sought companionship amongst humans. She got along famously with them in comparison to how she was treated by vampires- as long as she kept her half-blood status secret. That was alright with her though. As far as she was concerned, she absolutely hated being a half-blood. Her exposure to humans and vampires of all walks of life caused her to reject the teachings of Vampire society and advocate for the end of the vampire social hierarchy, as well as better relations with humans and vampires.

Maliyah grew into an argumentative, hot-headed youth, with more brains than time in the day and thinking she was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Fights between her grandfather and her increased, to the point where she was kicked out once. (Granted, that lasted a total of an hour before her grandparents panicked and bought her back home, but that was a moot point.) Her mother had re-married, this time to a pureblood man whose name was Collin Daniels who, unsurprisingly, had little to no interest raising Maliyah or getting to know his step-child. Her mother seemed to have forgotten Maliyah's existence on more than one occasion, seeming more preoccupied with her new life than her eldest. Mina had managed to climb back up the social ladder of vampire society by this time, becoming a respected figure in the Ahmed banks.

Maliyah originally wasn't going to go anywhere near Onyx Academy, instead content with partying and protesting the day away while making ends meet doing various odd end jobs in town. After pressuring from her grandparents though, Maliyah decided to attend Onyx Academy. She might not look forward to having to interact with a bunch of stick in the mud's, but hey, the experience might be worth it. At the very least, she can finish her degree.

Thalia's father was turned into a vampire during her childhood. While she had a good relationship with him during her childhood, once he had become a vampire he struggled to maintain his thirst for blood. They became quite distant as her father spent less and less time with her due to being unable to control himself around blood. Once she became a teenager he left her and she was forced to live on her own for then on.

Alexandre's feelings toward humans are not as complex as an average human to expect. For example, do humans who consume meat feel guilty for how it's conjured up on a plat for one to eat so rare and juicy?

Insert your conflicted feelings, and you have Alex's regards. However, being born this way wasn't a choice and consuming the blood enzymes of living creatures is essential to keep him breathing. Alexandre's immunity requires it. Much like humans need water to maintain healthy functioning organs, Alex involves blood.

He doesn't enjoy bringing pain to others or agrees with killing humans. Again, though, the thirst, you couldn't fight it. This could explain why when, after not feeding for a while, a vampire may feel a form of pleasure from drinking blood. It's like drinking a long glass of ice water on a scorching hot day. Can one not help but enjoy that?

Is Alexandre picky about his meals? Generally, he wants them clean, and that means inside and out. As it's not what is necessary to him, forming any attachment to his food is distasteful for him. Thus, naturally, he doesn't converse or socialize with many humans unless necessary. It isn't out of a dispising of their kind. It was that he was an alien to their lifestyle. The two species tend to have a hard time relating to each other. Although Alexandre wouldn't ever openly admit it, he found most humans dull and stupid. Their senses were numbed by distraction, and vampires honed into introspective inspection. It often caused friction and unnecessary agitation. Alexandre would also never admit that humans and vampires certainly felt emotions differently. Vampires had a more robust neural brain pattern, allowing absolute control over behavioural outputs. Some humans may call this bland and have no heart, but Alexandre called it a rational species with high intelligence.

So, being placed in a school alongside humans is challenging for him. A bit odd. He's not certain he can get used to this. Although, it was necessary for the time being.

HISTORY/BACKGROUND

Alexandre was born into a long line of successful pureblood vampires. Although, they were not as involved with the vampiric society as most pure bloodlines. Christopher Monet, Alexandre's father, was well known for his dealings with pharmaceuticals for vampire corporations and humans. This means the Monets are incredibly wealthy. Alexandre's mother also came from a highly successful line of the pureblood family. Although, she died when Alexandre was born. Having been born with a sickly constitution. Giving birth to Alexandre was too much and ended her life prematurely. Thus, Alexandre was raised by his father or rather a trail of various nannies.

Growing up with wealth meant he grew up with priviledged. He had a good education and a stable upbringing. As far as finances are concerned. His father was rarely ever at home. Meaning, Alexander lacked a male role model for a bulk of his life. Relying on peer support and approval it often meant he was really consumed with his image. Keep in mind being consumed about your image doesn't always make one the most popular. As a result he often was often thought a bit of an odd ball. Though, Alexandre navigates the popularity sliding scale with a fair neutral pass. He does so by remaining a by standard amongst the poplar crowd. He remained active in sports teams and other extra curricular activities just enough to be considered "involved." This often drove a lot of his elementary, middle school and high school success. Sports. The young man was always good with his body.

His curiosity is what gets him into trouble. Still being a young vampire he still has so many questions. So many concerns. So much confusion. Especially about being placed into the situation he is in. The food shortage was something weighing heavy on every vampires mind. No one wanted to get sick. Alexandre considers himself lucky but he would never admit that. To anyone else. Alex would say, he was confidant that he would be placed here, it was his right. So full of himself.

Although his outward exterior is confidant. He is still very unsure of himself. Especially, being a virgin. He still has a lot of insecurities about it and often diverts the subject. But being passionate with someone means facing his fear and he does not want to do that. Some would say he has the emotional maturity of a shoe. I don't think they would be wrong.

He has a lot to learn and is still growing in every way.

EDUCATIONAL FOCUS
The arts and political arts. Although he is heavily involved in school extra curricular sports teams as well.

    Yrsa doesn’t remember her childhood. She doesn’t remember receiving the small carnelian ring she wears on her pinky finger. She chooses to tell herself her father, a pureblood, gave it to her when they lived among the vikings, where she has glimpses of her mother, a shield maiden. Yrsa doesn’t remember her mother’s death or when they left Norway in heartbreak. All of the years have begun to blur together. Sometimes Yrsa even wishes for death and to join her mother in Valhalla. Her entire life she has been pulled in two directions. Yrsa’s father wanted a pureblooded child, and could have had it all, but due to his open relations with a human woman, they’d been cast aside by his family. Even still, Yrsa was raised as a pureblood and refuses to speak of her mother or the human blood that runs through her veins.

    Yrsa traveled with her father throughout the centuries. They moved from country to country together, forging a strong bond between the two, until one day a letter arrived. Yrsa’s father would be welcomed back into the bloodline, along with Yrsa, if they agreed to an arranged marriage between herself and someone of her grandmother’s choosing when the time came. Yrsa doesn’t know how her grandmother is going to manage a marriage for her but nonetheless, they agreed to settle back at the family manor where her father resumed his title as heir to their bloodline.

    Yrsa dislikes confinement, but after so many years apart from their family, she uses her time wisely with her grandmother and they tend the garden together on cloudy days. She eventually agreed to come to the academy at the request of her grandmother and to “follow in her father’s footsteps.” Most of the younger vampires don’t remember the nature of Yrsa’s birth given her age and the respect her grandmother holds, and she uses this to her advantage when she can.

Her letters are even short as if she cannot be bothered to write them. She is quiet, but perceptive and she observes every situation she finds herself in. Yrsa can become more tolerable after a couple of drinks, however, alcohol makes her vulnerable, so she rarely partakes unless there is a wedding. She does, ironically, enjoy weddings.

    minerva has always been a rather rebellious lady. she has never been good at following the rules or playing the delicate damsel-in-distress role. she is a reckless--forever throwing herself into impossible situations without thinking and putting her own life on the line. not only does she have a fiery temper but she is also incredibly stubborn. like, good luck changing this girl's mind once she makes a decision on something. and if you are looking for forgiveness after betraying her or wronging her in some kind of way? good luck with that one too. you see, she is a bit dramatic and very passionate at that.

    even with her bold personality, mina is quite the secret keeper. she is distrustful of others, especially strangers. though she might seem confident, she has her own insecurities and has this self-loathing part of her that often presents itself when she is very upset about something. in simplest terms, she is her own worst enemy. as one could imagine from someone who struggles to accept themselves, the vampire definitely has a sense of humor that helps combat reality. she always seems to have a witty remark for everything.

    yes, she might have some issues, but minerva is fiercely loyal to those she cares about. in fact, it is safe to say that she would even die for some of them. and she might seem otherwise, but she is very compassionate and supportive. one can count on her to have their back.

    history









    minerva was the second born illegitimate child of a fairly wealthy, centuries-old, pureblooded vampire and a human woman. her mother was her father's beloved mistress whom he did not care to keep secret from his legal wife. while her stepmother did have a son of her own, mina and bastian were favored by their father, which obviously caused some issues between them and their father's other family. of course, being half-bloods, they were not regarded in the same light or with the same respect as their pureblooded brother as they were forbidden to attend many public events by the family, but their father tended to allow them more freedom and was generally warmer towards them.

    as a child and adolescent, mina was never close to her cunning siren of a mother nor was she ever good enough for the woman. her mother wanted to carve her into a woman who would be her mirror, but minerva was never one to abide by the rules. of the three de quincey children, mina was the troublemaker, especially in her teen years. unlike bastian, she never sought to blend into the vampiric society as she had concluded from a young age that she would never live up to her parents' expectations. despite this, the young vampire was not immune to insecurities that arose from being a part of a dysfunctional family.

    minerva never really intended to attend onyx academy. she had always longed to escape the suffocating hold that her family had on her and craved a life of independence. but, with the encouragement of her beloved brother, she reluctantly accepted the challenge that attending the academy would surely pose for her.

His graceful and solemn aura might attract some eyes and warrant compliments, but he shies from the limelight unless spoken to. Drakkar, an artist at heart, spends most of his free time studying anatomy and geometrical structures of various objects and wakes of life. Often, he can be spotted in the courtyard sketching his soul away.

    Drakkar would appear to be a well-read man upon conversation, quoting novels and whatnot. Although he can have a rather calculating persona, he can be spontaneous when the situation arises. Having a draw towards danger, Drakkar fears little. Or, perhaps it's coming face to face with the fears that give him such a high? A true adrenaline junky.

    Drakkar admires powerful figures, with a moralistic conscious, of course. Not one for romance; you wouldn't usually find Drakkar to be the flirtatious type. He has better things to do with his time, like stuffing his head with endless knowledge from the house library. Still, that doesn't mean the right person can't come along.

    He finds them fascinating, and it's his driving force to coming to the academy. He's heard about all the horrors from surrounding peers about them, but it hasn't swayed his interest.

    History​

    Drakkar is a foster child, but that's not to say his childhood was bleak. It was rather the opposite. He grew up cherished, nourished, and admired for his intelligence. He had been adopted into a large family at the age of six, and one of his older sisters fell prey to a vampire during one of her late trips home. Drakkar still did not blame vampires for her death, but merely her own lack of caution (not that he doesn't miss her, but he couldn't find it in himself to place the blame on anyone else, as he believes everyone is responsible for themselves). When he heard about the open enrollment at Onyx Academy, he leapt at the opportunity to apply and "study" these creatures of the night. Although his family was gravely against it, they knew they couldn't restrain his ambitious soul.

like her powers, Aria is seen as ice cold by many of her classmates. Whether that be because her resting bitch face is off putting or because most know who her family is, she’ll never know for sure, but to keep up the name of Cromwell, she has to lead a life that she maybe wouldn’t choose for herself if she had the option. Her views on humans are that, while they shouldn’t be slaughtered, they’re basically walking blood bags. She puts on a rough exterior, but on the inside she’s really just searching for connection with anyone who will give it to her.

With parents who were never really there and a slew of nannies left to raise the unruly child, it’s no surprise Aria grew up the way she did. Born to two purebloods who were only married for status, the young child knew nothing of love from the day she was born. Her mother, Anna, was so preoccupied with being a violinist that she simply didn’t have time to form bonds with the child while Aria’s father, Douglas, was much more interested in the human women who begged him to feed on them.

She was raised in a dysfunctional family to say the least, and yet somehow she learned manners and piano and other skills and talents from her multiple nannies. Of course, she couldn’t help but bleed one or two of the human ones dry, but her parents simply paid off their families and things continued on as they were. Aria is known to be spoiled when it comes to blood, always having had a live source to feed from rather than those pesky blood tablets. That is until she arrived at Onyx Academy, it was there that she wasn’t offered another choice, and that flustered her to no end.

When it was announced that humans would be integrating into the school, Aria was elated as she assumed it was due to the tablet shortage and needing live sources of blood. She was half-right all things considered, and even if it wasn’t what she was expecting, the human blood does suit her fancy much more. Not to mention, some of the humans even seem interesting, but maybe that’s just because she’s never spoken to one before.
