A Western Scifi Adventure
01. welcome to stark.
Welcome to the Stark System, patented and owned by the Stark Corporation. They bought the colonization rights from the Galactic Directorate, an intergalactic governmental organization responsible for maintaining intergalactic peace through regulating and mediating relations between member states of the Milky Way. After maintaining galactic peace for nearly a century, the Galactic Directorate had been pushing for colonial expansion into reaches of the galaxy that have yet to be inhabited. Some efforts have been proven successful, others not so much. One of these examples were the expansion into the Lakshmi System. A decade of failed colonial endeavors had put a dent into the Directorate's reputation and put their colonization efforts on hold for the foreseeable future. The colonization rights of the Lakshmi system were offered in a bidding war to anyone the Directorate would allow including galactic member states, private citizens, and corporations. Eventually, the Stark Corporation would win the bid and immediately changed the name to the Stark System. Stark Corporation is an intergalactic company known for its advancements in intergalactic colonial developments. Their rapid financial growth allowed them to expand into other endeavors such as private security, weapons manufacturing, medical research, engineering, and foodstuffs.

A decade after the bid, successful colonization of the inner planets transformed them into havens of commerce and culture within the Stark System making them huge centers for tourism, retail services, finance, and entertainment. This would be the peak of Stark's existence, becoming the darling of the Galactic Stock Market until the Selena 4 Incident. The outer planets weren't as luscious as the inner ones. The abundance of natural resources incentivized mining operations to be undertaken. One of these planets being Selena 4. A mining operation would be taken to mine for new energy sources to eventually break Stark into the energy market and feed the inner planets with an energy source to make the system self dependent. But the lack of expertise in mining had lead to many mining settlements failing and armed revolt against Stark in Selena 4 triggered a chain of other rebellions in the outer planets. The planets would declare themselves free from Stark and when rumors of armed revolt spread to Directorate space, they were going to seize the solar system from them if they didn't put down the insurrection. Stark acted quickly and fought a war against the rebelling colonists. The organized and centralized Stark private army was no match for the rebel guerrillas in the initial conflict and the expenses of the conflict became costly after 7 years of fighting and property damage where Stark eventually won.

Stark's stock began to plummet and if it weren't for the sale of the outer planets to AIL (Allied Industrial Labs), Stark would've liquidated in the coming years. AIL is a successful energy, mining, technology, and chemical conglomerate and were able to utilize automated labor to feed their mining operations. And because of their mining operations AIL made more money than Stark would've made if their mining operations were successful. AIL would then introduce a new energy source to the galactic market, Flaridium. A rock like mineral that lasts 10x longer than most solid energy sources when burned in furnaces to produce power. Flaridium would become a primary source of energy for the Stark system, and a luxury in Directorate space. AIL's economic dominance over the Stark System became self-evident once cities were built upon around these mines. Biodomes built in the outer planets protected inhabitants from the harsh conditions of toxic atmospheres thanks to AIL being able to go to Stark's competition to build their habitats for them.

Stark had reached the point where they were now locked in a competition over the Stark System and so they looked to the mid planets.

02. The Mid planets
The mid planets were never on the list for Stark's colonial efforts. There were only three and because of huge landmasses with harsh environments and ferocious wildlife, they held no importance besides being military bases and penal colonies.

Some time after the establishment of AIL in the Stark System, emigration from the inner planets to the mid planets ensued and settlements had been established. Initially, Stark didn’t care so much about the autonomous townships. But as more and more started to build up, so did Stark’s military presence in the mid planets. Stark began demanding rental fees from the settlers since they were quartering on Stark property. This was met with backlash from the settlers which had then escalated into another interplanetary conflict.

Then came the discovery of ‘Rainbow Crystals.’ Found by small independent mining outfits, these were durable luminescent crystals that weren't found anywhere else in the galaxy. The mines that operated in these settlements were able to sell these crystals through the Stark System's blackmarket, avoiding Stark and AIL commerce channels. The funds from these sales went into settlement renovations and weapons to protect their homes from the corporations. Stark and AIL had began to take note of the militancy of the mid planets and when they intercepted smuggling ships carrying these crystals, Stark immediately began sponsoring colonization efforts and bring in a crystal rush. Stark owned settlements began to spread across the planets like wildfire which flared even more tensions between settlers who were already there and the new Stark colonists. AIL didn't have the legal rights to operate in the mid planets so instead they funded privateers and independent mining cartels who were already in direct competition with the settlers and Stark.

The mid planets became the center of debauchery, violence, corruption, soliciting, and political upheaval in the Stark System.

This is where the Freelancers come in. Extremely talented gun slingers coming from all walks of life who can apply their skills in multiple trades who'll do whatever they want to get a good pay day. The influx of Freelancers to the mid planets fostered animosity between one another until Freelancers started killing each other over contracts. The Freelancers Society was born to institutionalize the law and culture of the Freelancers to prevent infighting and settle disputes between two Freelancers. Freelancer Gangs started to form in order to take on more contracts and guarantee allies in the system. One of these gangs were the Reliables, a new up and going band of Freelancers looking to make their own claim to fortune.

03. welcome.
Kudos to you for making it through all that. Let me be the first and only to welcome you to Bleeding Rainbows, a sci-fi western that takes influence from series like Borderlands and Outer Worlds. Our characters will be exploring the middle planets of the Stark System which will act as the main hub of activity and narrative. As members of the Freelancer Gang, The Reliables, we'll be facing action packed adventures while being caught in geopolitical conflicts, conspiracy, big game hunts, dungeon diving, and occasional slice of life moments.

A few ground rules to establish:

Standard rules, no godmodding and op chara's. While we will have explicit content that revolves around mental and physical trauma please keep said content in the bounds of rpn rules.

Your character can be as wild and wacky as you want them to be. They can be whatever species you want aged 18 and up. You can have up to as many characters as you think you can handle. Queer identities are most definitely allowed. Romance isn't a necessity but can be plotted between characters.

Because Bleeding Rainbows is an extensive universe I'd have no problem with players contributing to the lore. Run your suggestion by me in ooc however before posting ^^

I'm not expecting anyone to write essay long posts or cap you with a word count but do write enough detail in order to give other players enough to work with so this doesn't end up being dry.

My acceptance rules rely on effective and active communication between players. I want players to be interactive with one another creating an intimate and warm environment. Also if you don't use discord for ooc then I'm sorry but this rp just isn't for you.

Current concept: former Corpo death-squad hatchet man, turn-coated to Freelancer, building a fund for his own spot of frontier land somewhere.

Kosher for the setting?

c o w b o y s ?

IN SPACE?

(Needless to say, I am very interested in this. Is it still accepting??)
