INFORMATION/CHARACTERS.
NOTE FROM WAYNE. - Bleak Pines police department.BLEAK PINES, 1975.On March 7th, high school student Beatrice Woods disappeared after spending the night at a friend’s house. She left in a blue Chevrolet Caprice, but neither she nor her vehicle arrived home the next morning. Deeply concerned, her parents contacted the Bleak Pines Sheriff’s Office at precisely 9:00 a.m., triggering a formal search effort. Local officers, joined by volunteer search parties, combed through the surrounding areas, but no trace of Beatrice or her car was found. Investigators examined the Woods’ home but uncovered nothing of interest. Despite inquiries in Bleak Pines and nearby towns, there were no sightings of Beatrice’s vehicle, leaving the investigation at a standstill. After two weeks of exhaustive efforts, with no leads or developments, the case was transferred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. With no evidence to suggest foul play, the investigation into Beatrice Woods’ disappearance stalled, and after months of exhaustive efforts, the case was eventually shelved. The unanswered questions left the town of Bleak Pines grappling with uncertainty, as residents pondered what could have happened to the bright, beloved high school student. Known as the town’s sweetheart and a beacon of promise, Beatrice was adored by her community. In interviews, locals described her as kind-hearted and full of potential, someone destined for great things. Her friends, however, were left in shock and disarray, haunted by the events of that fateful night and the unanswered mystery of her fate.BLEAK PINES, 1983.On March 7, 1983, the high school friends of Beatrice Woods gathered once again for their annual reunion, a ritual born from grief, meant to honor her memory. Eight years had passed since Beatrice disappeared, and the small town of Bleak Pines had long since moved on, resigning itself to the unspoken truth: Beatrice Woods was likely gone forever. Life in the town continued, her absence fading into the background like a shadow lost to the light.for the friend group, however, the loss lingered. Though time had driven wedges between them, scattering their once-close bond, the reunion persisted. It wasn’t for them anymore; it was for Beatrice. Returning to Bleak Pines had become a solemn obligation, a single day each year to keep her memory alive. But in 1983, this familiar ritual would take an unexpected turn. Something was waiting for them, something that would reignite the mystery surrounding Beatrice’s disappearance. What began as another bittersweet gathering would soon unravel into something far more chilling, as the past refused to stay buried.MAIN MENU.

INFORMATION/CHARACTERS.
NOTE FROM WAYNE. - THE PREMISE.In 1983, a group of estranged friends return to the enigmatic Midwest town of Bleak Pines, a place steeped in mystery, conspiracy, and an unsettling history. Once a familiar haven, the town now brims with secrets—secrets that may finally reveal the truth behind the disappearance of Beatrice Woods. As they delve deeper, the group will encounter cryptic clues, eerie happenings, and malevolent forces determined to keep the truth buried. Every step forward will test their resolve, as they uncover a web of supernatural intrigue and danger lurking behind the town’s quiet facade. This roleplay draws heavy inspiration from the surreal, atmospheric works of David Lynch, such as Twin Peaks, as well as narrative-driven games like Until Dawn and Control. The story unfolds in chapters, gradually unraveling the mysteries of Bleak Pines while embracing the unmistakable aesthetic of the 1980s. From neon-lit diners and cassette tapes to the creeping sense of paranoia that defined the decade, the roleplay aims to capture the era in its purest form. While the roleplay will be accessible to a range of experience levels, I’m seeking dedicated writers who are eager to explore and expand the strange, haunting world of Bleak Pines. The plot is shrouded in secrecy to preserve the thrill of discovery, ensuring that each clue, twist, and reveal will feel earned. Together, we’ll navigate the eerie streets of Bleak Pines and uncover the chilling truths hidden beneath its surface.THE DINER BOOTH CREWTHE TORMENTED [TAKEN]Beatrice had always considered [THE TORMENTED] her closest friend, the kind of bond that only time and shared history could forge. From the laughter-filled days of childhood to the late nights of whispered secrets, they had been inseparable. It was at [THE TORMENTED]'s house, perched on the edge of Bleak Pines, where the group had spent their last night together. The memories of that night were bitterly sharp, especially for [THE TORMENTED], who had watched Beatrice leave, drunk and disoriented, and offered her a ride home. Beatrice had declined, as if unknowingly setting the stage for the tragedy that would unfold. When the news of Beatrice's disappearance reached them, a heavy guilt clung to [THE TORMENTED] like a second skin. The weight of the unanswered question, could they have done something differently? gnawed relentlessly. It was a torment that refused to release its grip, even as the years passed. In the months that followed, [THE TORMENTED] had briefly found solace in a brief, turbulent relationship with [THE RESENTFUL]. It had been a fleeting attempt at distraction, but their relationship ended in acrimony, leaving behind the same bitter taste that lingered from Beatrice's departure. Bleak Pines, once a place of familiarity, now felt like a cage, a reminder of what had been lost, and of the mistakes that couldn’t be undone.THE FORGETFUL [OPEN][The Forgetful] was the last to join the diner booth crew, arriving just weeks before Beatrice’s disappearance. Because of this, they didn’t feel the same weight of loss that seemed to anchor the others. To them, Beatrice’s memory didn’t bring comfort or joy, it was a specter, keeping the group shackled to the past. They believed the others needed to let her rest, to finally move forward and find happiness. But voicing such thoughts felt dangerous, almost sacrilegious, so they kept their feelings buried. In quieter moments, [The Forgetful] would catch themselves glancing at [The Night Owl], a lingering remnant of a high school crush they’d never dared to confess.THE RESENTFUL [OPEN][THE RESENTFUL] had spent their life in Beatrice’s shadow, always second place. Every accomplishment, every triumph, seemed to pale in comparison to hers. Joining the diner booth crew only magnified the imbalance, Beatrice commanded all the attention, all the love, leaving [THE RESENTFUL] feeling invisible. Their parents’ constant comparisons only deepened the wound, turning admiration into simmering resentment. When Beatrice disappeared, [THE RESENTFUL] felt an unsettling calm. There was no denying the pang of guilt that followed, but there was also a twisted sense of relief. For the first time, the possibility of stepping out from Beatrice’s shadow felt real. The thought of finally being first, of no longer living in comparison, was intoxicating, no matter how absurd it seemed to take solace in her absence. After all, despite everything, they had been friends.During high school, [THE RESENTFUL] had secretly harbored feelings for [THE LOVER], even though they were in a relationship with Beatrice. When she vanished, it felt like a door had opened, one they didn’t hesitate to step through. But their attempt to pursue [THE LOVER] ended in disaster. The confrontation was sharp and unforgiving, with [THE LOVER] lashing out, accusing [THE RESENTFUL] of disrespecting Beatrice’s memory by trying to take her place. The fight left their relationship fractured, irreparably strained. Awkward silences and unspoken tension filled the spaces between them, making it impossible to recapture what little camaraderie they once had, they shortly had a relationship with [THE TORMENTED] a few months after the fight, but from the very start, things were just never going to work out.THE NIGHT OWL [OPEN][THE NIGHT OWL] was always the smart one, the dependable problem-solver the group turned to when faced with questions or dilemmas. Reliable and insightful, they were a steady presence, but their quiet nature often kept them on the sidelines of the diner booth crew’s more social moments. High school life and group activities sometimes felt like a party they weren’t entirely invited to. But Beatrice was different. She had a way of bridging the gap, pulling [THE NIGHT OWL] into the circle and making them feel like they belonged. For the first time, they had a place to call home. When Beatrice vanished, [THE NIGHT OWL]’s carefully constructed world began to crumble. She had been their anchor, the first person to truly see them, to give them space to vent, to feel connected. Things at home were never easy, and the group had become an escape. But without Beatrice, the group felt fractured, incomplete. Refusing to accept her disappearance as mere happenstance, [THE NIGHT OWL] became consumed with theories and conspiracies, convinced there had to be an explanation.Their obsession with finding answers grew relentless. Each yearly reunion became an opportunity to dig for new clues, no matter how tenuous. But this single-minded pursuit came at a cost. The intensity of their fixation alienated them from the rest of the diner booth crew, creating a chasm that widened with each passing year. What had once been a source of solace now felt like another thing they had lost.THE LOVER [OPEN][THE LOVER] had started their relationship with Beatrice during their sophomore year. It all felt so natural. Beatrice had a kindness and an irresistible magnetism that seemed to draw people in without effort. [THE LOVER] had been just one of many captivated by her, but fate—or luck—had worked in their favor. Being her neighbor gave them a chance to connect outside the chaos of high school hallways, turning chance encounters into lingering conversations. It wasn’t long before those moments grew into something more, and by the time they joined the diner booth crew as Beatrice’s significant other, [THE LOVER] was already deeply entwined in her world. They were quickly embraced by the group, becoming a vibrant presence, fun, caring, and always looking out for others. But there was one exception: [THE TORMENTED]. Beatrice’s childhood friend had a way of lingering too close, their connection too familiar, too intimate. It stirred a gnawing jealousy in [THE LOVER], a sense that [THE TORMENTED] wanted something more.Their last night together would become a nightmare etched into memory. [THE LOVER] had drunk too much, their jealousy boiling over into a confrontation with [THE TORMENTED]. Heated words escalated into a fight, one that [THE TORMENTED] refused to back down from. Beatrice, furious and fed up, stormed out, leaving with [THE TORMENTED] to cool off. But when the night ended, only [The Tormented] came back. Beatrice had vanished. The disappearance left [THE LOVER] drowning in guilt and resentment. The thought that Beatrice had chosen [THE TORMENTED] over them in her final moments cut deeper than they could admit. It twisted their anger into something sharper, especially when facing [THE TORMENTED], whose presence felt like a constant reminder of what they’d lost.In the wake of her disappearance, the fallout was swift and unforgiving. The diner booth crew, once a haven, began to see [THE LOVER] in a new light, a hotheaded, volatile figure prone to anger. The fight had left a mark, not just on their reputation but on the fragile bonds they’d built. Time passed, but the shadow of that night lingered. Changing the way others saw them felt impossible, and no matter how much they tried to move forward, [THE LOVER] remained trapped by the weight of what had been, and what might never be.ABOUT THE CREWThe five remaining members of the diner booth crew are bound together by a complex web of shared history, secrets, and lingering guilt. Each of them is tied to the others in ways that are deeply personal, though time has frayed those bonds. What remains is only a shadow of the crew they once were, with Beatrice Woods still at the center of their story, a ghost in more ways than one.The goal is to create realistic, nuanced connections between these characters while embracing the passage of time and the inevitable distance it creates. The base characters serve as a foundation, but players are encouraged to adapt and evolve them to make them their own. There are no gender restrictions for any of the characters, but to preserve flexibility as the cast takes shape, it’s recommended to approach your character’s sexuality as at least bisexual until the group dynamic is finalized. While each character comes with a simple backstory, feel free to add depth, twists, or layers that reflect your vision. The core elements of their relationships, who they were to one another, what binds or divides them, must remain intact to preserve the heart of the story. Beyond that, creativity is encouraged to bring these individuals to life.Characters will be reviewed as they’re submitted, with a deadline set for finalizing the roster. Once the cast is locked in, some backstory adjustments may be necessary to ensure continuity and compatibility between characters. These revisions can be coordinated privately between players or discussed openly in the OOC thread, which will be hosted on-site rather than on Discord for now. This story is as much about the dynamics between the characters as it is about solving the mystery of Bleak Pines. Dive deep, collaborate, and bring to life a group whose shared pain and fragmented connections make their journey all the more compelling. Face claims are strictly realistic, characters are aged somewhere around their mid 20s.THEMESmystery supernatural 80s horrorMAIN MENU.

NOTE FROM WAYNE. - NOTE FROM WAYNEHey everyone, it’s Wayne! This is a more laid-back message to talk with you guys directly. This is my third (?) roleplay here, and I’m hoping to get writers who are willing to keep it going for a long time. It’s not exactly long-term, but the story of Bleak Pines is supposed to be very expansive and somewhat like a rabbit hole, so maybe it’s a medium-term roleplay? Something like that. You guys already know that regular RPN rules apply to this roleplay. I should also mention that I’m looking for roleplayers aged 18 and up!Thanks for taking the time to read everything. If you’re interested, and if there’s enough interest, I will open the character applications, and we’ll begin the process of finding our main cast. If there are a lot of people applying for the same role you want, don’t feel discouraged—do apply anyway! I’m happy to have options for the cast. Also, if you want, you can apply for up to two different roles. However, if you’re accepted, you will only play one of your characters. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them in the interest check before I open the OOC. That’s about it!MAIN MENU.
