    Colored in subtle browns and greys over porcelain, the Anima known as “Rook” is a doll crafted to appear unassuming sitting among shelves of aged parchment. The sigil tattooed over his left eye is his most distinguishing feature when describing his appearance to a stranger. Rook himself considers it an important part of his identity, given that it is the sole marking connecting him to the peddler whose hands molded his vessel. To those familiar with Fairy Script, the smaller inscriptions drawn within the sigil’s lines resemble a key of sorts. As for what kind of lock it belongs to, asking the Anima will only result in a cryptic answer that it’s simply graffiti.

    Regardless of whether the day features sweltering heat or biting winds, the general form of Rook’s wardrobe seldom changes. The black tassel mirroring the singular black streak in his hair remains persistently fixed to the strands behind his ear. Likewise, he prefers clothes of darker or neutral colors, though for whatever odd reason, he’s never seen wearing any sort of short sleeves. Be it semi-formal blazers and button ups or more casual sweaters, nothing he wears ever seems to rise too far above his wrists.

    Personality
    In a world everyone left behind, I keep singing the song of the beginning. I already understood. If I sing with my hoarse voice, I feel like I'll be able to see you again.
    At first glance, Rook checks off every trait held standard within the Anima race: vigilant, patient, considerate, and as obedient as a well-trained german shepherd. Monsters are disposed of cleanly with minimal damage to the city’s infrastructure, and his mission reports are typed in detailed but easily digestible formats. Despite the Nu-8 Squad’s reputation for housing misfits, he bears an air of reliability alongside a willingness to provide aid in miscellaneous tasks and favors. In particular, written formats grow scarcer by the day, but it isn’t uncommon for the Anima to receive requests for special letters to be penned by his hand, each letter elegant and precise with not a spot of ink misplaced.

    Those who happen to speak with him at the wrong moment, at the wrong place, and at the wrong time quickly learn that he is in truth an egotistical extremist and a harbinger of chaos. A well-over millennium old grudge nurtured a willful soul that holds the concepts of ideals and ambition on a high pedestal. Having forsaken the creator who gave him a meaningless purpose and an equally meaningless mission, Rook abides by his own rules regardless of whether or not they coincide with society’s own. As considerate as he is on any other ordinary day, he isn’t averse to adding to the chaos if he finds it amusing. Perhaps his most aggravating trait is how he’s set himself to ignore everyone and everything the moment he’s settled himself down to read. The only method to pull himself out of that state is to say a certain designated word, though if said word is abused, he’ll ignore that person even if the building is on fire. In a similar vein, if he happens to randomly dislike someone, he’s capable of treating them like air while speaking to the person next to them with a pleasant smile on his face. Though he’s normally amenable to the suggestions and requests of others, if he happens to find it too troublesome, he childishly acts as if he’s never heard it.

    Some may consider Rook two-faced, but most can agree that his personality is rather mild in comparison to the larger characters in Arcarum. That is, his lack of close acquaintances is attributed more to something he considers to be out of his control. When questioned about his occupation prior to finding his way to Arcarum, Rook states that he held down a job as a librarian for a few years. Some may note that it’s more accurate to say that he was likely raised in a library, given the bibliophile’s penchant for basing any and all information on the books he reads. He remains largely unfamiliar with the “laws” of both worlds, and his lack of common sense is evident in his tendency to forget about not crossing the street on a greenlight to breaking a door open if it happens to be locked. Yet for all the grief he causes, all he has to say is a disinterested “oh” and the occasional apology.

  • Hai Tao-Yu is a man akin to a sapling. Though possessing a temperament that is stern and serious, he is flexible in his treatment of others, willing to let others bend rules and regulations when the scenario calls for it. Such laxness is not an allowance that he affords to himself, however, and he holds himself to standards of punctuality that others may think of as stifling. Tao-Yu’s morning routine has been perfected down to the second, and his hands and thoughts are rarely idle. If he enjoys a meal at a restaurant, he will consider how he could replicate the flavor back home. If he finds himself waiting before a meeting begins, he will review his notes or listen to an audiobook. If he’s watching a movie, he may as well do some light physical training during that. Time, after all, is something that is never on a human’s side, and as someone keenly aware of the long-lived and immortal races that populate the organization he is a part of, Tao-Yu squeezes every bit of time he has in order to continue to ‘compete’ against them.

    That competitive spirit of his however, doesn’t spawn from anything so sinister as a grudge or a narcissistic spirit. Rather, it is a by-product of his ambitious nature. Tao-Yu is an individual driven not by desires, but by goals, and while he may deviate from time to time to explore alternative interests or indulge in diversions, he is ultimately an individual capable of focusing very hard on a singular prospect. He is, after all, a man akin to a sapling. As a sapling continues to stretch towards the sun, Tao-Yu continues to take the steps to realize his personal goal: to legitimize, advance and standardize the pedagogy of general magic, creating a curriculum that would give any with magical inclination the capability to respond flexibly to whatever situation may arise in the chaos of a mission.

    After all, general magic is the foundation of one’s understanding of the arcane craft, a set of skills that any caster can acquire. In that case, doesn’t it only make sense to improve the craft as much as possible, so that all casters can benefit from it?

    It comes with little surprise then, that for his severe, perhaps even cold, exterior, Tao-Yu’s is a good teacher. He speaks clearly and concisely, modulating his tone to control the atmosphere of the classroom and designing his lesson plans around the idea that theory can only be learned through hands-on experience. There is no value in ideas if they cannot be practically applied, and for that reason, he continues to work in Field Operations, constantly accumulating the knowledge and experience needed to prove his theorems regarding magic and tactics.

    But despite his ambitions and his maturity, Tao-Yu is still but twenty-seven years of age. There is much for him to learn, and while he may fancy himself a professor of sorts, his life experience is still very much centered around his goals, meaning that all else falls to the wayside. A propensity for considerable, careful thought does not shield him from making social gaffes after all, and his nature is such that without any particular goal to achieve, action to perform, or question to answer, Tao-Yu is more often than not the type to fall into a tense, brooding silence in the absence of having anything to do.

Daruu'maka is quite a friendly Dragonborn, always willing to help out and share information. He's always out and about when not working on his own devices, offering to carry various materials or even aid in some design or another. He's happy to share a drink or test his skills against another, but his true passion is crafting and tinkering. He loves to get into the guts of a piece of machinery or magitech and is often trying to make them work together as best he can. This has caused some issues but has never dampened his excitement for his craft. Get him talking about something he finds interesting and be prepared to talk for hours. He's also quite happy to talk about his culture.

In combat, Daru changes in personality. He is far more serious and focused, determined not to let anyone get hurt. Also, he gets first dibs on materials he can use so..

He did find life on Earth interesting, especially the drink known as coffee. He prefers a nice dark roast.

When he was born almost two hundred years ago, he was born into the settlement of Alatem in his home region of Bargazut in Sinoa. He, like many hatchlings, ended up working in the Arcanium mines to help build up their strength and durability to handle the greater dangers of traveling with the nomads. But fate had other plans. Daru found out that raw Arcanium had interesting properties, that when properly utilized, it could have magical effects. This was something he quickly realized everyone knew, much to his embarrassment. With his interest in knowing more stoked, he soon found himself traveling to the main city of Halathum and studying magic there. The applications of magic were interesting but he wanted to work with his hands, inscribing and building.

He needed to know more and at the tender age of sixty, he paid his passage to Rocheste to study Fairy Script. It was much more interesting, utilizing the basic understanding of magic and carving that into a structure to have an intended effect was captivating. He drowned himself in knowledge for the next eighty years, studying everything there was to know about Fairy Script. Even after all of that time, he could only be considered somewhat competent. It was only a short year after that, that the town of Albarn appeared. Naturally he made his way there to learn about the devices these otherworlders possessed. Machines. If they could be inscribed like their own tool, he could possibly make something even greater! Daru unfortunately though wasn't there when the second cataclysm happened due to family issues.

Daru has only recently become involved with Arcarum in the last ten years or so. That was mainly an accident. Not being militarily minded, he'd went to study the technology there and somehow ended up studying to be an agent.

Combat Stats
Elemental Affinity: Being a western, red Dragonborn, Daruu'maka has a strong affinity for the Fire element.

Equipment: Daru keeps most of his crafting equipment at home, though he does have a small repair kit he carries around just for field work.

The GB-71, colorfully named Gunblade by his associates, this particular blade has cartridges that are stored in the hilt. Each cartridge is designed personally by him to produce an elemental effect upon the blade when activated by pulling the trigger. When the charge has run out, he can flip a smaller switch on the side that causes the storage chamber to rotate and slot in a new cartridge.
His clothing is mainly normal but is enchanted to be more durable and somewhat self mending. Currently, he's only capable of imbuing three elements into the cartridges of his weapon. Fire, Earth, and Air.

Because these are elemental abilities given by the cartridges and not by his own skills, he can't fuse them into stronger effects, limited by whichever element is in use at the moment.

Abilities: His scales make him pretty resistant to normal attacks. Slashing and Piercing are very ineffective against him but blunt damage can crack his scales.
He's also quite immune to his own element, though this does mean he has some issue with his opposite element.
Fire Exhalation. Daru is not only capable of exhaling flames from his mouth, but he can also adjust the flame strength and size, within reason. However, beginning to use this ability and ending it take time and can be interrupted, even causing explosive damage to the inside of his mouth if it is forced shut.
Physical Power: Even without his sword and other devices, Daruu'maka is not only incredibly strong as a Dragonborn, but he also has horns and claws with which to rend and gorge his opponents. Hard to clean his horns though.
Flight. Like most winged Dragonborn, he can fly for a limited time. The underside of his wings are actually a large vulnerability point as their leathery texture is devoid of his scales. In combat, he'll either fold them in or wrap himself in them to allow their outerscales to protect the inside.

Fairy Script and Magitech: Daru is decent at using both forms of crafting. Well enough that he was once offered work in the R&D section instead of becoming a field agent. However, he felt that he got better results and improvements when in the thick of things, seeing how his devices effected the enemy.

    Rye is quite the stereotype of the 'dumb jock that means well'. She's strong-headed, determination like steel and loyal to a fault. She cares for all those around her, and is a ball of energy with a sturdy attitude to training and spending time with friends. She never seems to take much all that seriously, though perhaps her being oblivious to a lot of things has more to do with it. Unless someone says something to her face she struggles to grasp at small nuances and hidden motives. She has a big heart and will gladly put herself second to aid someone else, seeing no task as too small or too big. She's a firm believer that everyone has good and bad inside them, and that they all deserve a chance. Despite her somewhat fiery appearance, her temper is in fact fairly cheerful and laid back.

    Kim appears to be a young and slim girl with strikingly yellow eyes and near razor sharp teeth. Thin tentacle like whispers protrude from her face, and behind her head a long, thick, black membrane trails her, with purples, reds, and oranges glowing dimly. Her ears are sharp like and Elfs, and her fingers are webbed, her forearms sporting spikey fins. Normally, her skin and veil are dry, however, during combat they become slippery and wet.

    Most of the time, when people speak with Kim, they describe her as 3 things. Loud, obnoxious, and immature. While those are some words to describe her, and she is very immature, Kim does show kindness to those who she deems worthy of her respect. When she is told to kill something, she'll do it twice just to make sure it gets done, and when the safety of her squad members is thrown into the mix...Let's just say Kim will actively disregard orders on a regular basis. She goes where she wants, when she wants, and is known for raiding the kitchen late at night for a bit of late night sushi.

    As elegant as the wind but cold as the winter blizzard, Sovetskaya is the product of the witch's vandalism, directly resulting in her distant personality. Certainly, she understands the value of communication between teammates and will obliege for the sake of the operation, but for the last decade she has been serving the Arcanum, Sovetskaya proved herself to be the ultimate iceberg; forever immovable.

    The absolute pragmatism she lives by is her code and morals. All life is worth saving and there are no practical reasons to dislike people based on their ideologies.     Our laughter disappeared from the city, and with a tired looking face, I blamed it on someone else to settle my heart, but it’s still murky.

    Insert: a tall, athletic-built man moves through a lobby. His formal attire, influenced by Telderante and Earthly fashions, allows for assumptions that this man is either well off or hails from an affluent background. In addition, he moves with such grace and tact- almost as if he was trained to walk in a specific manner. So, even if the room was in complete silence, his footsteps make minimum feedback so that even a light-sleeping child wouldn't be disturbed.

    He's coming closer now and this is when you start to notice something strange. With a keen eye, there is a faint haziness surrounding him. It follows wherever he goes like a shield to obscure onlookers just a smidge. Hanging between his lips is one of those traditional tobacco pipes. It's specifically called a Japanese Kiseru pipe, which you quickly learn is the root behind the haziness surrounding him. Being in close enough proximity of him, you prepare for the bitter stench of tobacco but instead, pick up a faint sweetness. The man's vibrant eyes reach yours and he smiles, knowingly, before a newcomer hands him something. It's a cup of coffee- specifically a macchiato sweetened with caramel- his favorite.

    The man speaks with the coffee delivery man. His voice is as smooth as milk foam, strong like espresso, yet kind like honey. It is a charming voice- fitting for someone with such a charming face. However, anyone with sharp hearing could distinguish his way of speaking as rehearsed and lifeless. He begins to say something along the lines of a "soccer game for the 'Little Ones'... arrive no later than 4 o'clock sharp or face repercussions... have the refreshments at xx degrees Fahrenheit... have Urgent Care on standby..."

    Then follows four to five carts full of what the man deems as "requirements for emergencies and then some" to the cars waiting out front. The man walks along with the carts as he doubles, triple, quadruple checks that nothing is left behind. During his obsessive search, he checks his wrist encased with a red wristband. It glows vibrantly and he leaves without a second delay.

    Personality
    Bodies and words should be for understanding each other but they’re used to probe one another, wearing each other down.

    He's a busy man- that Ikilen... Even those who are granted the pleasure of his presence can tell. There are a lot of duties and responsibilities that come with being both the protector and butler of a family as old as Barclay. Among them is maintaining a public image that positively reflects the family he is bound to serve. To those who do not know him (either on a personal level or none at all), he is quite charming. Rumors say people swoon over his smile- a smile that helps people feel safe and taken care of- even when danger is imminent. Others acknowledge how accommodating he is to people's needs, especially when he can do so through a quick observance. Above all, he is a gentleman that left women of Telderanti nobility dazed with infatuation.

    Because of his occupation, there are not many opportunities where he is found spending his free time leisurely. His mind will continue to organize schedules, solve unpredictable (and some nearly impossible) scenarios, and prepare for missions. For someone who people see as chivalrous and charming, he can be frighteningly obsessive when it comes to detail and ensuring that tasks are executed efficiently. Those who worked or are working with him (i.e. household servants or coworkers at Arcarum) are the main victims whenever his persona changes from the usual warm and friendly to cold and intimidating. His long history of dealing with dangers, changes, and traumas made him favor efficiency and caution. Therefore, actions that create a mess and cause the slightest bit of harm (either to property or people) give the man a massive headache, and so, it shouldn't be a surprise when Heath is overwhelming strict.

    Those who know Heath on a personal level can tell he is struggling with himself. The Anima considers himself as old and although he is accustomed to adapting to changes, there are some parts of him that are still stuck in the past. There are traumas, both old and new, that distract him from time to time. The fresher wounds that struggle to heal caused foreign feelings to blossom- doubts, fear, resentment, heartbreak... If he had the capability of sleeping, would he have nightmares?

    And then there was Nu-8... At first, he believed to be intruding on their well-formed dynamics. For some time, he alienated himself and acted withdrawn- as if scared of any deep relationship with them will be short-lived. Time was gracious enough and for someone who had many people rely on him, Heath wondered for once could he be selfish and lean on them for a while? Perhaps, could he close his eyes and rest?     Capturing her appearance - a slight smile full of poison, a challenging regal gaze, and the aloof air of a rulebreaker - Asa possesses a devious, fatale charm. She carries herself, though, with a kind of fluid confidence, giving others a steady, relaxed feeling, and for the most part, that feeling remains true. Like most sylvans, she’s capable of donning or shedding a multitude of different appearances, but she often fancies herself an oriental one. From wearing her hair in simple, cute buns to dressing in casual garb or provocative silk, her leisure style disregards some propriety, being mainly self-serving to her vanity.

    For the most part, Asa presents human, granted one with pretty, sharp canines, but her tongue is also long and snakelike. She obscures it well enough anyway that it’s rarely a talking point.

    Betraying her natural allure, Asanah doesn’t like scheming, nor beguiling, and nor could she even care about getting her way through blatant seduction. Growing up in a clan of snakes may have made her versed in such concepts, but she much prefers interacting with others directly. Though, sometimes, she’s even too lazy to do just that. If something needs to be done, she would rather tackle it on her own. Of course, she has a thorough grasp of her own limitations, appreciating the help of others wherever she falls short.

    Nevertheless, with a voracious curiosity and fearlessness to failure, there are few things Asa wouldn’t throw herself into with determination. With great focus and perseverance, she’s undeniably a woman of strong character, taking considerable pride in her own hard work and stubbornness. While she meets life with her fullest capability, striving to constantly improve herself, she also has easygoing passions like cooking to enjoy her time. With Nu-8 often the happy guineas of her endeavors, it’s also moments like these that are the most precious to her.

    Yet her firm attitude isn’t without effort and, instead, carries much doubt and insecurity from her childhood. Her mistreatment back then has deeply instilled in her an abysmal sense of self-worth that she is keenly aware of. And because of her acceptance, Asana doesn’t regret what had happened then, reframing her vulnerability into a source of motivation to push herself, and to remind her of humility. Unfortunately, it also makes her blind to many things, interfering with her decision-making, where she can be at times too hesitant, or then too brash in retaliation, an inch from ideal. It’s her seasoned experience as a leader and the influence of her squad that helps offset her struggle to a significant extent, the weight of responsibility keeping her adequately whelmed in face of most scenarios, no matter how abnormal.

    That adaptability is her basest nature. While Asanah views her actions as individualistically driven, she nevertheless has the uncanny ability to reconcile any atmosphere or situation. The restraint of morality on her isn’t tight and, excluding her sense of loyalty and a particular distaste, she could make for a thriving machiavellian. But regardless of what she’s capable of, kindness is still her preferred modus operandi. How boring it is to chase dreams alone.

    Description: Eclipse has quite the exorbitant wardrobe. She dresses to the character she plays, that of the "Reaper of this World." This means lots of dark colors, as well as a cloak to hide her face. She also enjoys trying to match the styles of the fashionable humans around her. Due to this, she ends up looking like a rebellious teen in the way she dresses, just edgier. Also loves fingerless gloves.
    Personality: Eclipse acts like she is better than all those around her. She speaks in loud tones in ways that would indicate that she is wiser, more troubled, and far more interesting than she actually is. She claims in a tone that indicates utmost certainty that she is the doom of worlds and that all shall bow before her. Of course, none of this is true, and she knows this. The truth is that she is in way over her head and is a socially inept moron. Years of isolation has bred an attention seeking persona that has bled seamlessly into Eclipse's personality. There is not a single person who has seen Eclipse drop the "Reaper of This World" persona and most who speak to her are quick to figure out she is entirely harmless. Beneath the boisterous act lies a childish, affectionate person who derives much enjoyment with the company of others.

    She doesn't drop the act on missions either. In fact, it is worse in the field. Eclipse announces her every action, monologues often, and finds herself in many precarious situations by putting herself at the center of engagements. She manages to weave her personality well into tense combat situations, though. Wielding a plethora of divertive magics, Eclipse's tendency to drag attention proves to be an asset more than it does a hinderance, surprisingly. This does not mean she misunderstands the severity of situations, though. Her methods are simply unorthodox, albeit effective.
    Backstory: Eclipse was born deep in the Void Land's. A meaningless, lonely introduction into existence. Eclipse spent her early years floating aimlessly through the empty tundra. Being a being of pure mana though, she soon attracted the attention of Sinoa's hunters and of mana hungry beasts alike. Eclipse saw such events more as games than the dangerous situations they were. Eclipse proved to be nigh impossible prey to her predators due to the nature of her magic. She was faster, craftier, and more enduring than her pursuers, and most of the time what should be an intense chase quickly turned into a frustrating Childs game for Eclipse's predators. Intelligent or not, Eclipse would pepper her pursuer with her curiosities. These one sided conversations with hardened predators was how Eclipse learned more about the world. The perspective led her to believe the world and the people in it was much harsher than it really was. Thus, her dramatic persona was born. She found it was a lot easier and a lot more fun to posture as something cooler than she was. She spent a long time wandering the Void Land's pestering the few living beings around her with her dramatics until one day she wandered her way through a rift and to Earth.

    Eclipse's first encounters with Arcarum were as a threat. Having suddenly teleported into a world full of color and life, Eclipse was both overwhelmed and ecstatic. She quickly adjusted though, and took the opportunity to run amok and do as she desires. She first encountered Arcarum when she began terrorizing a small town, announcing herself as their "Dark Overlord." When Arcarum was dispatched to the scene Eclipse was happy to run the Arcanum agents in circles, monologuing nonsense to them all the while, then running away while cursing Arcarum agents. This would repeat itself for around a month where Eclipse would sporadically get into some mischievous hijinks, Arcanum would be forced to respond, and Eclipse would run off like an evil villain who's plan just got foiled. Her activities never really put anyone in real danger, but they were undeniably magically in nature and very disruptive. Thus, Arcarum was forced to respond. Eventually Eclipse was contained by the organization. Not by a squad of highly trained combat specialists. but instead by a team of negotiators. After long, obnoxious talks Eclipse came to Arcarum willingly. In terms with her agreement with the organization, Eclipse was placed into special reformative training. Eventually, she grew on the lifestyle, and now after working her way up the chain she is a B-rank agent working closely with Arcarum. She is still a newly promoted B-rank.
