I had thought that once T'Challa had become the leader of the newly form Vacunda that Wakandan and Remnant tech would be combined, or at least that Wakandan Tech would be made available to the citizens of Vacuo since they are now part of Vacunda. Are you saying this is not to be so?
Well there's the issue with Klaw and the fact that aside from T'Challa and some of his family, they take issue with "outsiders" using their tech... Also the arms smuggling thanks to Klaw.

To what extent? My understanding from the Black Panther movie and beyond was that all citizens of Wakanda (and by extension Vacunda) would be able to learn how to use and have access to Wakandan tech. Heck, didn't T'Challa say he wanted to share Wakanda's technological advancements with the world by the end of the Black Panther movie? Are you saying that's changed after the world was thrown into flux? Also could you give me some insight into recent events in Vacunda? I'm having trouble finding things involving that in the lore.

I'm working off of the Comics actually.

Ah...that would explain the disconnect. I know very little of the comics themselves. Care to read me in?
Wakanda cured Cancer but refuses to share with the rest of the world. T'Challa's still fighting to get them to share their tech with a huge exception for their weaponry. Also I suspect Vibranium shit would not be something they'd let your OC have since Vibranium cuts through aura in lore.

I thought T'Challa had the final say so with anything regarding his country, including his tech. Is someone under him being a problem child with all the refusals and whatnot?

That's not going to sit well with a lot of people and explains why people are stealing Vibranium and Wakanda tech.

I've edited my app to account for the lack of easy access to Wakandan tech.

Name: Lawrence Akaido

Universe From (Series your character comes from. OCs are labeled as OCs): RWBY OC

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Bio (Short/Long, who gives a shit?):

Lawrence Akaido was born and raised in the Desert Vacuo. His family lived in a town by the sea and traded goods along Vacuo's coastal areas. Lawrence and his brother Aaron trained from young age, as you have to be strong to survive in Vacuo. After unlocking their semblances their grandfather would take them into the desert and left to survive and find their way back on their own. Failure was not an option. Everything changed during one such training exercise when the world was thrown into flux and Vacuo gained an unexpected neighbor in the form of Wakanda's lush grasslands and forests.

With the world changing so drastically Lawrence no longer knew if becoming a Huntsman was so simple a dream as he had imagined. Aaron left to face the brave new by the end of that year leaving Lawrence to train against the Grimm, bandits, and any other monster or humanoid he crossed paths with. Some fights were purely for enjoyment and depending on if the foe was Grimm or humanoid Lawrence would either join his opponent for a post-fight meal or return to his base for some well-earned R&R. Other fights were all out brawls against foes that barely qualified as human.

When Lawrence finished his training and returned home to upgrade his equipment he learned of the duel that had taken place between the leaders of Vacuo and Wakanda for the right to rule, and that his home was now name Vacunda with T'Challa as its leader. With the borders of his homeland now extended to its new neighbor Lawrence has chosen to travel to the Wakanda have of Vacunda to meet his new neighbors.

Personality: Easy going and carefree, but with a hidden serious streak that appears every now and then. He can come off as an idiot due to his carefree nature, but he's smarter than he lets on. Lawrence and his brother Aaron trained from a young age, as you must be strong to survive in Vacuo. Lawrence is always up for a good fight and wants to be the strongest Huntsman to ever live. This may have been influenced by his early years of training where his brother always kicked his butt. His friends and family are his most important treasure. If you mess with them he will kick your ass no questions asked.

Skills (Things that a normal human could train to become proficient in): Lawrence is an able combatant thanks to his time training in the desert. After returning home he learned the ways of Wakanda's technology and how it could compliment the technology Remnant had before the world changed. Consequently he's acquired the knowledge needed for the creation and use of unique weapons or items using the new form of technology spreading through Vacunda and the wider world.

Powers/Abilities (Things accredited to genes, unusual circumstances, and otherwise supernatural abilities): As a native of Remnant Lawrence unlocked both his aura and his Semblance. His Aura allows him to shield himself from attacks or power the weapons or other equipment he creates. His Semblance is named Rebound and allows him to both manipulate his aura to a limited extent before it snaps back into shapes. This allows him to extend his reach and either grab things from a distance or attack enemies within a given distance. His Hunter Weapon "Wave Force expands the capabilities of his Aura, and his Aura changes depending on the kind of dust he's using.

Wave Force is a matched set of bracelets, , anklets, armlets, leg rings, and belt that he wears at all times. These are less weapons and more items that allow him to facilitate his combat capabilities to the fullest possible extent by boosting his aura or semblance as needed, as well as using dust to alter how his aura functions. Depending on the type of Dust used Lawrence can gain control over a given element, become faster or more agile, etc. Wave Force can also channel his aura in a way that increases his speed and agility in second gear or his power and defense in third gear without the use of Dust depending on how his aura is channeled.

Weaknesses (If anything notable): While Lawrence's Aura gives him a sixth sense for danger the same as other Huntsman he has yet to master it, and as such can be vulnerable to surprise attacks when distracted. Additionally, using his semblance puts Lawrence at risk for losing a significant amount of it in one go if someone cuts through his aura while it's extended.

Lawrence's Semblance doesn't drain his Aura when it's active due to how it functions, but that changes he uses Dust as Aura is the catalyst for using Dust. Once his Aura has been depleted he is as weak and vulnerable as any other human unless Wave Force takes its armor form. Additionally, channeling second or third gear aura forms with Wave Force puts extra strain on his body and can get him in trouble if he overuses them.

Lawrence is reliant on Wave Force for the number of ways he can expand his fighting capabilities. Without it his attacks are limited to hand to hand or striking from a distance with single hit strikes.

Anything that drains or seals Lawrence's Aura will limit what he can do in a fight. Lawrence is left as vulnerable as a normal human if his Aura are sealed or drained beyond his ability to maintain a protective barrier.

Others (Trivia, Theme music, etc.) (Optional): Lawrence eats a lot after a big fight, and I don't just mean going for second or third helpings either.
Lawrence is also less afraid to speak his mind than the average person and can come across as rude or uncultured if not worse depending on the situation.
Never mess with Lawrence's friends or family unless you're looking for a bad time.

Elephant out of the room first. Lawrence's face-claim definitively needs to be changed to either a lesser known character or original art.

I'm not as knowledgeable about RWBY as Phantom Thief of Hearts Phantom Thief of Hearts is, but realize that he cares deeply about the series and the wishes of one of its deceased creative visionaries.

I do remember Monty specifying that it's given names that were references to colors.

Lie Ren and Bolin Hori are counter-examples where their family names indicate the colour association.

Color Naming Rule

I read some more and found this thread on the wiki discussing the rule:

Again getting confirmations from a lot of fans that it's not always on a given-name basis.

However.

There's an in-lore explanation for why characters are colour-based, and this is due to a previous war on freedom of expression that began a tradition of naming children after colours, words immediately related to colours, or things reminiscent of colours. That last item is a bit of a kicker because of how subjective it can be. Any word can be traced back to a colour if one tries hard enough, and deciding how much a name is "reaching" for a colour is going to end up being subjective.

Besides, Ozpin, Glinda, Salem, Leo, and however many other characters in the show have first names that aren't specifically rooted in color.

Monty's colour-rule document specifically mentions Ozpin as an exception to the rule. The real point, though, is that all of the characters mentioned here lived before the war even began. This means they wouldn't necessarily be named after colours.

Overall, I believe some kind of compromise can be struck. Would it be possible to come up with another "normal-sounding" given name that also relates to a colour? Since your issue is the given name sounding "normal" and Phantom's issue is the name being related to a colour, I think it could be possible to achieve both with a name change.

Torma Ximnus Torma Ximnus

Honestly, I just don't want to change my character's name. I like the name I gave him, and as you've stated that RWBY characters in this rp are before the war began that means the color rule doesn't even need to be used. I already have a color name for my character's surname, so that should be enough of a compromise in and of itself.

and as you've stated that RWBY characters in this rp are before the war began that means the color rule doesn't even need to be used.

Only those characters I quoted are from before the war—all younger RWBY characters follow the rule.

That being said, however, I'm not the one to make the final call since this is an issue Phantom had. We can just wait on him to be back online.

Was there an answer for the face-claim?

You mean the face-claim is an actual issue? I thought it was just someone in the roleplay thinking it might cause confusion if someone wanted to roleplay a One Piece character. :/ I'm not really concerned about it though. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal for me, and it has the potential for comedic shenanigans if someone does rp a Once Piece character.

As to the naming thing, I thought you meant that the flux happened prior to the war for this rp. My bad if I read that wrong.
Regardless, Ozpin, Glinda, Leo, and others are from after the war too. Jaune himself said that his Great-Great-Grandfather (or was it Great-Grandfather) fought in the war. Consequently, the war would have happened before Ozpin's time and during one of his previous lives.

Edit: I just realized that this whole argument over the name didn't even need to happen. After a bit of searching I found that Lawrence means Laurel Crowned and Laurel (more specifically Laurel Green) is a green-gray clay color. Ugh. I wish I'd found this last night. -_-

I just find the comedy could easily wear out its welcome fast.

Lawrence also means bright, which, if you really stretched it, you could extrapolate white from it.

It's more like they're calling him Lotus, if we go by the Japanese translation of Ren, which is what the color part of his color name comes from.

from a discussion on Ren which is weirdly confusing even for me lol.

That's the point where a subplot could be introduced. One possibility is Lawrence having to pretend to be Luffy for a while. lol

I think I'll go with that then. It fits his personality better too.

Phantom Thief of Hearts Phantom Thief of Hearts So I've edited my app to account for the absence of Wakandan tech and color reference has been found in my character's first name. Is there anything else that needs to he addressed? The face claim is something that could be used for sub plot stuff later on if we start running into one piece characters, not to mention the initial comedy value. I get that one or two people might be concerned about it, but even if I were going to do a text description instead it would literally be the same, just in text format instead of picture format.

And considering Lawrence is not going to be on Mite World any potential weird stuff due to his appearance likely wouldn't happen yeah?

If I’m following this conversation correctly, probably not.

Personally, even an alternate Luffy design would be more acceptable for me.
Just, something a bit different. It's the best selling manga of all time, I don't think finding an alternative would be that hard.

The movie designs are pretty good if you don't want to use someone else's fanart, which I would understand.

I dunno, I just think that One Piece has such a distinct art style that I could never really accept a Luffy faceclaim as a "RWBY" character.

Honestly Phantom Thief of Hearts Phantom Thief of Hearts , it sounds more like a personal issue you have with ot rather than anything that could actually affect something in the rp. I've had this kind of conversation over a different part of another character before. I didn't appreciate it then, and I'm not enjoying it now either. I would understand if its something that would cause an actual serious problem in the future, but I honestly don't see it being one for the simple fact that there are any number of ways to work around any potential issues.

Besides, Vacuo is desert and the desert is hot. That's something you always dress lightly for.
