CHAPTER ONE: CURSED ONES

The cold was nothing they weren't used to nor the snow that fell lightly from the sky. It was the first snowfall of Dimsun and this only bespoke of colder times and long winter nights to come. The time of cold snow had come to the lands, making these ice-covered lands even colder and it would only get worse as the season progressed. The planet was in an ice age, an ice age that would last several thousand years, several centuries in fact, though none knew it. To the early humans, all that mattered was surviving day to day. Hunting and gathering food, moving in their small various clans and trying to survive both other groups, the changing seasons and of course predators. Thirty-percent of the earth's surface was covered in ice and megafauna roamed the lands. The ice sheets underfoot were so thick in Eurasia that they created a rain shadow effect, turning what in time would become western Russia and Siberia into a frozen desert and halting the spread of glaciers in the east due to the lack of precipitation. The earth itself was warped from the ice which made changes to the coastline and further south what would be known as the Caspian Sea was larger than in modern times, the Black Sea bleeding into the Mediterranean. But such knowledge was unknown to the early humans of the frozen marble. They knew not how long the ice age would last or that the Neanderthals would go into extinction as early humans competed with them for food and resources. They knew nothing of how the world would change through the years, dead and unseeing, forgotten. None but those who had been cursed who might get the chance to see the world change and their own race begin to grow and spread.

The cold was nothing to two wolves that made their way south from the frozen desert of Siberia for they lived on the edge of land and sea, or had done so before they'd been chased out of their clan by the elders when the older brother had turned on a seal hunt and the younger had turned to defend their older brother, mauling a clan elder and resulting in them being chased out and away from their home, their own family even rejecting them. It was said they'd been cursed, bearing the mark of Amarok. That had been but a half moon ago and since then the brothers had continued south, confused and trying to get used to the fact that they were cursed and why Amarok, the great wolf of their mythology that hunted at night, had cursed them so. They were not alone though for as they descended from the borders of the frozen desert, they came across a female who roamed alone the primitive forests and steppe, injured and frightened. It was his younger brother that had begged Auckaneck to allow the female to join them, a female they learned was called Rosario and since then the three had been wandering together. Rosario proved to have good senses and observation skills for a female and the brothers found from her that she would sometimes follow the men on hunts and learn by watching them and learning to hide from their sight. She, though, had no idea either why she had been cursed or what was happening to her. Were there others out there? As Rosario said she had a different god to the brothers, it got the oldest wondering of why this had happened though he could not fathom an answer to his burning questions.

"It seems colder than normal," spoke the adolescent as he walked along beside his brother, the older in wolf form as was the female. Through trial and error, they discovered something. They could be human or wolf most of the time but the strange middle form, the one between wolf and human, they didn't seem able to access that form willingly. In time, they would discover the third form could be revealed under the light of the moon and the day before as well as being brought out as a last sign of defense or under heightened emotions but the monsters they would become every full moon would remain concealed within their bodies and minds. His older brother made a huffing sound in response, but otherwise the adolescent's statement went unanswered as they walked across the land, feet and paws carrying them across the earth into the light snow.

The wind was miserably cold today, despite the fur wrapping around her body. The breeze seemed to cut straight through Aenor's pelt, digging into her joints and making her feel stiff and tired. It was nothing new; the weather had been like this for as long as she could remember, sometimes better, sometimes worse. The fur helped - usually.
Even without the added warmth, Aenor often found herself sticking to her cursed form, unlike her companion, who clung desperately to whatever humanity he felt he had left. She didn't speak her mind, but she found his struggle fruitless. They had been cursed. She knew that there was no going back, now. The people who had run her out had made that excruciatingly clear. It was less painful for her to cut herself free from her old life than it was to cling to it. Easier to think that there was absolutely no chance to go back.
Drust felt far differently.
He and Aenor had stumbled across one another only a few days ago, and despite their semi-regular disagreements, they found common ground in the fact that they both wanted someone watching their back. That alone was enough to keep them travelling together.
Opposed to Aenor's rather pessimistic view of their pasts, Drust found himself looking back to his humanity for support. He thought to his family, who didn't know where he was or if he was even alive. He thought of his son, who he hoped he might see again someday. It was all wishful thinking - he had no concept of where his home even was, now, assuming he survived long enough to cure this curse.
No action by the gods was completely pointless. He believed that there was a reason this had happened, and maybe, there was a way to return to his previous life.
For now, though, he postponed this goal. Survival was more important to both of them. So they kept forward, away from what they used to call home, and ever deeper into the frigid tundra.
A soft growl from Aenor broke the semi-silence between them. Drust stopped, as Aenor pushed against him in an attempt to get his attention. She sniffed at the air, extending her neck out towards what Drust figured to be south. It was difficult to see them against the white background, but the quick and subtle movements of the hares gave them away.
"Now?" Drust whispered to his companion, who spared him the closest she could give to a firm glare. It wasn't like they had too much time to argue about it. A puff of white clouded around Drust's face as he sighed through his nose, standing back as to not alert the wildlife.
Confident that he wouldn't be moving, Aenor started in, lowering herself to a sort of crouch. For all the bad that this curse had brought upon them, it had at least taught Aenor that she wasn't nearly as bad at hunting as she'd thought herself to be. And with practice, she thought, she could become even better. This was not only a perfect opportunity but also a good chance to stock up on food. She just had to act as swiftly as the rabbits would.

Thalia traversed the snowy landscape all on her own. She was a loner by nature but this was the first time she had traveled such a distance without anyone at all around her. It was nice, in a way, to not be surrounded by screaming and fighting. Though, it was lonely. She didn't know what exactly she preferred. She would'nt mind to have a companion, if she could find one. But she also didn't know how this potential companion would feel about her and what she could do. Changing into a wolf at any point. That had been a strange experience. She had learned she could do it again and again, it wasn't a one-off thing or coincidence. Being alone was for the best.

She hadn't come across anyone else and knew nothing of any others like her. She thought it'd be for the best to continue on her own.

Untethered to anything humane and coming from a clan of savage warriors had taken its toll on her. She acted primitively. She'd prowl around in her wolf form sometimes, but she'd try to keep a very animal-like appearance in her human form. She'd wear long pelts to disguise herself as an animal and kept a mask made from the skull of a hunted animal.

She kept towards the shade and cover of trees and undergrowth to hide her location. She melted into her surroundings making it hard for someone to trace where she was. Stealth was certainly one of her strengths. She figured it might be good to hunt something so she started along while keeping herself covered to see if she could find anything.

Timoteo was just recently chased from his home by his angry villagers, who, he once lived with. His very fluffy, dark pelt moved alongside the cold zephyrs around him; making him sneeze. Timoteo, by now, was dead used to the freezing air he inhaled and exhaled continuously with his breathing. Timoteo was a rather handsome, gorgeous wolf; with his ice-piercing eyes and a bear, black, gray-thick pelt. Timoteo's nose flared at the satisfying scent of a Mountain Sheep. Timoteo chuckled softly as he attempted to keep himself hidden by some snow; which was tough from his dark-colored pelt.

One paw step after the other as he went, his belly almost brushing against the snow below. A crisp part of the snow from one step, in particular, startled the Mountain Sheep; it scurried away quickly. Just as it did, Timoteo thrust himself behind it, right at its haunches. Timoteo snapped at its leg and caught a firm grip on it, his teeth holding on for his life, it seemed. The sheep struggled roughly, trying to shove Timoteo off with its horns. It failed.

Barely seconds afterward, Timoteo had the sheep lying beneath his paws. Timoteo sat down without a sound. "How am I going to eat this myself?" He asked himself, with a lowered head.

Wink and Mask were chased off by their home. The two females were very close with one another, they were inseparable. Wink had a golden, whispy pelt with blue eyes; alike to her human. Mask, was the complete opposite of Wink; she had a large, strong frame and was well-built with a black pelt and silver, keen eyes.

They walked with their pelts brushing against each other, chatting with one another. "Do you think there may be others out there, alike to us?" Wink asked Mask, with her eyes darting around them.

"Possibly. If this is a curse that was placed upon us, Wink, there will be," Mask responded; her ears flicking.

"Maybe... just, maybe..." Wink began slowly, "...we can find some others to join us..?"

"Like I said: possibly," Mask said, then unexpectedly bounded away through the snow playfully.

"Hey! Wait for me!" Wink howled, chasing behind Mask, her gold pelt whipping with the cold breeze.

As the trio heading south from the frozen desert continued their trek, Quamaniq remained in his human form. The young man tried to do what he could to hang onto his humanity unlike his brother who seemed to embrace the curse that had been cast among the pair of brothers. He thought their female traveling companion was in the middle of acceptance, unsure whether to accept the curse or hate it. Given they had met her when she had been a wolf, Quamaniq was unsure just what the female's feelings were as his brother told him to leave the girl alone. "Can we find somewhere to get warm Aukaneck? It's cold."

His brother huffed in response, then turning towards the younger male. "We need food before we find somewhere to get warm. Perhaps our observant female can track something down," Auckaneck huffed out. The wolf paused to shake out his fur from the light snowfall before continuing on. "Fan out you two and keep an eye out," he ordered them. "And you whelp, get into your wolf form. Given you didn't bring spears with you when we got chased out after you killed that elder, you'll need these claws given to help pull your weight."

Quamaniq shifted his weight uneasily on his feet but a deep growl from his brother caused him to shrink back and begin shifting his body, bones snapping and shifting as his body rearranged itself until white fur replaced his skin and clothing until an Arctic wolf stood there next to the Mackenzie Valley Wolf that was his brother and the cream-tan eastern timber wolf. None of them were hunters in this form but they'd had to adapt in order to survive. Quamaniq stopped as he scented something though and scented the air. "I smell something," said Quanmaniq. His brother who was a bit behind came trotting up to him, pushing his body through the snow as he looked at his brother.

"Well?"

Quanmaniq sniffed the air, trying to discern the scent of the creature. "Wolf? Maybe...rabbit?" He inhaled a breath of air, trying to process the scent but wasn't very good at tracking down the scents of various animals yet. None of them were in all honesty. His brother inhaled the air behind him as Rosario came to a stop a little way behind the two males. "What do we do Aukaneck?"

"Not sure. If it's wolf then it's probably a dire wolf. We'd best stay clear of it. Could be a pack out there."

"Do you think there are others like us out there?" the female questioned.

Aukaneck shrugged. "Maybe. Maybe not. It's difficult to say but we found you. It'll pay to be safe for now and avoid it. If it's a dire wolf and on its own, which it smells like, we should be able to take it down. If it's a pack we might be in trouble."

A quartet of beings wandered through the snowy landscape, searching for somewhere warm to rest and get out of the light snowfall. Not only for the human in their group but the pup they had picked up as well in their travels. By all respects, Fenrir shouldn't have been chased out but because he had chosen to stand by his younger siblings, the human found himself chucked out of their lands as well when they were following the herds they depended on. "Snowfall...great. Hope it doesn't turn heavy."

"We'll make do if it does," said a man with brown hair. Wrapped in the fur of a cave bear and the pants and shirt of an Irish Elk, the male pulled his cloak tighter around him as he trod over the snow beside his younger brother. The males walked out front of the group, leaving their sister and the toddler they'd found to make their way behind them. "How're you keeping up Choal?" he stopped briefly to look at the blond-haired boy toddling along through the snow after them. It had been quite the surprise to come across a child left alone in the wilderness for the group and his sister, having such a caring nature, ended up convincing Fenrir to allow the child to come with them for protection. He got a sneeze from the pup and turned, picking up the toddler in his arms and turned around, pushing through the snow as his brother dropped back to help their sister along.

The female hid her pregnancy well, being only two moons pregnant when she had been cursed, the trio of siblings were unsure how it would affect the female's unborn offspring. Gale trooped along at her twin brother's side, Valhalla whining encouragingly at his sister as she moved across the land, eyes of lapis luzuli staring out of a wolf like skull as her silvery-white and black marking fur fluffed up to keep her warm, her stomach not yet showing the child or children she carried within her. Hearing her twin's whine, she nudged her brother's neck with her muzzle before leaning against him before pushing on. She didn't say anything but at her brother's persistence sighed. "I'll be alright Valhalla."

Valhalla turned green eyes on his sister worriedly. She knew what her brother was thinking. The pregnancy was tiring for the woman, being a young woman and it being her first pregnancy but food had been difficult to find even when human as their clan was finding it difficult to find food to feed their clan for the upcoming freezing time. The siblings looked to their compatriots they'd picked up in the steppe who were following slowly behind them. With a female carrying pups, the brothers had welcomed the huge wolf's assistance in protecting their sister. They moved forward until the larger wolf moved forward, moving past his sister Dryad and moved forward through the forest, sniffing the air. "Let's bed down here for the day," said Solmani. "It might be a light snowfall but the females could do with a rest," he spoke.

"Bed down where?" questioned Fenrir. "There's no shelter."

Solmani turned his head towards the human of the group, bichrome eyes staring at the human until Fenrir backed down. The wolf wasn't too sure about a human being among them, believing Fenrir would turn against them and that it was only a ruse but the younger twins seemed confident their brother wouldn't do so. Solmani was about to respond that they just dig a den down when he caught the scent of a kill and headed towards the source, intent on potentially providing food and followed the scent with the others following them until they came across a wolf sitting by a killed sheep.

"Hanging in there?"

"As well as I can be. What about you? It can't be easy caring for a...infant."

The pair of women were from close clans, the expectant mother running away from her husband after the curse had hit them. Even though Quinn was not a native of the younger woman's tribe, having been captured in a raid and bred by one of their men, producing the lone pup she carried within her jowls. A light snow was falling over the land as they pushed their way from steppe into forest, the land changing as they moved. Paws crunched over the ground they moved through the landscape. They trod over the ground, the female carrying the pup huffing around her pup's fur. "You are also carrying a child and will have to deal with it. It won't be easy for a pair of women on their own. Not only are there predators to look out for but also for men as well who might wish to harm us both."

As they passed through a tall stand of pine trees, the expectant mother stopped and sniffed at the air. As the wind changed, she picked up the sounds of crying and looked at Quinn who held her daughter in her jowls, the younger wolf trotting forward and moving through the trees until she pushed through some brush and saw a quintet of pups huddled against the frozen snow. Howling for Quinn, the other female perked her head up and making sure she had a grip on her pup, bolted through the forest after the other's howl, only to stop dead as she saw a gaggle of pups huddled on a bed of moss. Eyes closed shut and their ears folded down, they looked around they could see a still woman, smelling of death and after birth. Setting Willow down, she sniffed at the pups finding their scents didn't mingle with each other but one of the pups smelt like the woman whose throat had been slit open. The pair of wolves blinked at the pups before curling up around them, motherly instinct telling Quinn to move the pups against her and begin nursing them as Opal sat down. "What do we do with them?"

"Keep them...they'll die without milk. Maybe the gods intended for this to happen."

"Seems cruel of your gods to cause younglings to be cursed,"
said Opal. Quinn huffed and curled herself around the pups as they instinctively began to nurse against the mothering wolf, Willow being included among them. They'd have to move the pups eventually to some form of shelter, the earth beginning to get hard underpaw and making digging difficult. But caves could be difficult to find with the predators that lived in them, such as the cave bears.

The crunching snow blended in with the rest of the sounds around them, the softly blowing wind, the rustling dead branches. Still, Aenor knew better than to be too loud. The rabbits were sensitive creatures - anything could set them off, even things that she might have thought were subtle. And it did. Aenor came to a sudden halt, as the hares' ears began to flick up one by one.
Behind her, Drust held his breath. Experienced hunter or not, he was more than capable of seeing why Aenor had stopped. For a moment, it crossed his mind to join her - they could catch more together, after all - but the thought came just a second too late.
Aenor sprinted forward, hounding one of the larger rabbits that she could see. If she could only catch one, she might as well catch the biggest. The little white creatures bounded off to every side, springing away into the tundra around them. Drust glanced to Aenor as she grew farther and farther, then back to where he thought the rabbits had gone, before slowly following after them. He wouldn't go too far. He didn't want to get lost, or worse, make Aenor think he'd run off. But he had to make himself of some use. The least he could do was track the remaining rabbits.
Aenor continued after the one she'd picked, ignorant of Drust's action. She was faster than regular wolves, another perk of her curse, and whether or not she could catch up to the hare was barely even a question. One last bound, and she had it pinned, and dead in a second. She held the prey in her mouth, lifting her head to look back. Perhaps she actually could get more than one. But, as she swivelled her head, something caught her vision. Three more creatures in the distance, just close enough that she could see them, and just far enough that she couldn't quite make out the details. She could at least tell that they were wolves. A pack, perhaps.
A question flickered through her mind, one that she'd had before, but had never given much thought to - were they like her? Cursed? Forced out by their families and friends? She didn't let herself think about it for long. If they ended up being hostile, then it wouldn't matter if they were like her or not.
They probably knew she was here. That gave her a disadvantage. She was a hunter, not a warrior. Alone, she could never take on three wolves. She was humble enough to admit it. She lowered her head, but kept her prey in her jaws, unwilling to let it go. They were far enough away. Maybe they would just leave her alone.

Thalia kept on moving. She was good at being silent in the shadowy cover. Though, the only problem was that her dark furred pelt she wore around herself stuck out like a sore thumb in the snowy landscape. It was now being dotted with flakes, which ended up helping a little. She made sure to stick to areas where her darker clothes could be of some use to camouflage her.

The snow slowed her down a bit, but she wasn't in a rush. Her nose, which could now pick up scents because of the curse, sniffed around for any smell of use to her. She picked up some prey scent and headed in that direction.

She soon found a whole herd of Steppe Bison wandering around a grazing. It would not be an easy task to take one down. Especially with a whole herd of the giants around. Though, if she could play things smart then she might be able to have a nice dinner. Since she was alone, it'd take time and patience to take one down, but she was prepared for that. It'd be much easier to have a group with her to take it down as with how things were in her old home. But she could certainly manage on her own.

Thalia found an area where bison scent had been left. It was a powerful area and she started masking her scent and changing it into that of a bison's by rolling around in the scent the group had left. She sniffed her own body and decided she had thoroughly masked her scent, she reeked of Steppe Bison. Then she pulled the mask over her head with the horns attached sticking out from the skull. She made sure the dark furred pelt was draped effectively all around her and dropped to all fours. She then successfully integrated herself into the group, giving off the appearance and scent that of a baby bison. Her plan seemed to work as the bison practically paid her no mind. She'd be able to start targeting a bison and make jabs at it when she saw an opportunity. For now, it was just a waiting game.

Timoteo

Timoteo had completely just left the sheep there he had killed, his appetite was everywhere today. He wasn't craving sheep. Timoteo began walking and walking and even more walking. Until he had spotted a group of... wolves? Wolves! Like himself! Though, one could never be too sure if they had carried the same curse as himself. Timoteo stared from across the clearing, then remembering the darkness of his pelt in the snow, he flattened himself against the ground.

Timoteo then felt heavy, warm breathing from behind him. He slowly motioned his head to see a huge cave lion standing over him. "Oh-" he then went running when it swatted at him; his cover now blown. He then bounded through the snow helplessly. There was no way he could take this cave lion alone.

Wink
Mask

Wink and Mask were still walking together while a loud silence was in the air. "Should we find some prey?" Wink asks, reading exactly what Mask was thinking.

"Hah. Funny I was thinking the same thing, Wink," Mask chuckles softly. The duo then went bounding through the tough snow until catching a strong scent of a large mammal up ahead. "Aye, look!" Mask barks quietly to where only Wink would hear her. They both paused beside each other behind a large heap of snow.

"Bison?" Wink asked silently.

Mask nods. "But we'd need more than two of us, I fear." They both watched with keen eyes; seeking a weaker bison amongst them.

The trio of wolves coming from the frozen desert remained where they were, searching for the wolf they had smelt. Their female companion spotted the wolf in the distance, clutching food in their jaws though the wolf lowered their head when faced with three wolves. Aukaneck decided to make his way forward, informing the other two to remain where they were. The wolf ended up changing forms as he did, his body wrapped in furred clothing as he moved across the landscape, the others behind him sitting down on the snow. In this way, he was hoping to see the wolf's reaction to a wolf shifting back into a human...and out of the three he was the better fighter.

As the group made their way towards the sheep and the wolf at the sheep's carcass, the other wolf seemed to spot them, their black fur sticking out like soot. The wolf stared at them, then flattened themself against the ground. As they walked towards the carcass and the wolf, it bolted to its paws and took off, dashing across the snowy landscape. The group stopped as they saw a cave lion pursuing the wolf. "Seems like that wolf is going to get killed and is alone."

"Isn't that a good thing?"

"For you perhaps," said Solmani. "Dryad, stay here with...Fenrir, Gale and Choal. Valhalla you come with me," he said to the younger wolf. The pup couldn't do anything and they had two pregnant females plus a human who couldn't defend itself against a cave wolf without a weapon. The younger wolf, a child himself, followed Solmani as they began moving towards the cave lion.

At first, it took Aenor a moment to recognize the motion. How fur shrunk back into the skin, the distant cracking of the werewolf's bones as they morphed. In an instant, what stood before her was no longer a wolf, but a human. She tilted her head gently, some kind of understanding flashed across her face - more analytical than accepting, but understanding nonetheless. They were like her. Or, at the very least, he was. The other two could have still been regular wolves. She couldn't say until she saw them change, as well.
It didn't change much, them being alike. But if he'd wanted to kill her, then he could have easily done so when the three of them were together. If she took it at face value, then it meant he wanted to talk.
Slowly, uncertainly, she set the rabbit down onto the cold ground. In turn, she began her own transformation. Still not quite used to the morphing, she found herself internally cringing at the snapping and odd sensations. It didn't hurt, mostly. There was that. With the fur shrunken back, bones back in place, the brunette stared back at the man approaching her. Suddenly, she regretted reciprocating the action, and it showed in the way she took a quick, small step back. Where was Drust when she actually needed him? Not here, apparently.
She took a moment to bend down, picking up her prey. The snow was already beginning to chill the once-warm body. At this rate, it'd be frozen by the time she returned to her companion.
Considering first impressions to already have been ruined on her end, she decided to be done with it. She tugged her coat a little closer to herself and spoke.
"... Who are all of you?"
It wasn't worth mentioning that they were alike - they could both see that. At least, she assumed so.

First, Thalia needed to find a weak bison. She'd surely be at this all day, and it'd take even longer with her targeting a strong and healthy one. A weaker one would be less time to take down and easier to kill if things went south. Though, she was determined that her plan would be a success so long as nothing unexpected transpired.

She milled around the group, pretending to graze on whatever grass was peeking through the snow. In reality, she was checking out each bison to see if any had a weak point. Maybe a limp from a leg injury or a shiver from the sheer cold of Dimsun. Though, they seemed to be very resilient. At least resilient to the cold. Their thick layer of fur protected them from the freezing temperature and snow. She tugged her own pelt covering closer to her body. Being on all fours while in human form in this weather was a horrible experience. The whole thing would be easier to withstand in her wolf form, easier to attack and a whole pelt of fur to keep her warm, and she briefly wondered if that would've been the better option. She reminded herself that it would have thrown off the whole element of surprise and make it that much harder, especially when the bison were in a group.

Thalia's movements were a little awkward as her human body wasn't conditioned for travel like this, but she kept on moving around. She eventually just picked a bison to start following around. She determined this one to be the easiest target and brought out her spear. It was even harder to walk on all fours with the spear out, but she needed to be ready when she saw an opportunity to strike.

Timoteo

Timoteo felt like he was making a complete fool of himself and his heart was pounding heavily in his chest. The large, silk-pelted wolf raced through the heavy snow as quickly as he could. "Could I possibly run any slower?" he growled to himself.

Timoteo then tasted the air and saw those wolves going after the cave lion. He had gotten a bit distracted from them coming up and the lion swung him a few feet over. He then roughly bumped his head. Hard. Weakly, he slowly stood and the lion went running towards him-- until another wolf-- a wolf he hadn't seen before-- had come out of nowhere from the left side. This wolf was larger than he was and sent the lion backing off with a bite to its face.

Mask

Mask stood before a black-silk-looking wolf who was getting attacked by a huge cave lion. What she was trying to do was just plain stupid. But she wanted to help. She pretty much abandoned her friend, Wink, who was standing off to the side a few feet. Her gold pelt standing up.

"Back..." she gulped and continued, "...up."

The cave lion met Mask's icy-cold gaze and slowly backed away. Then it raced towards the other two wolves, Mask didn't hesitate to bound up behind the cave lion and jump onto its back. "Help me!" she snarled.

Wink then bounced over to check on Timoteo; who she didn't know who he was. He was lightly bleeding from his head.

Mask then was flung off the cave lion and then ran back for more. She felt dauntless.

She was flung off again, this time by the other wolves. She then spat with an angry tone, "don't stand there like sheep in a meadow, help me!"

As they were making their way to deal with the cave lion attacking the wolf that was running about like a ninny, two other wolves would appear. One rushed towards the cave lion to try attacking it, another appearing to stand a few feet away which did nothing worthwhile of importance. It didn't go very well, given the wolf was quickly flung off the cave lion's back and the bigger wolf rolled his eyes while the smaller one seemed nervous about going up against the cave lion. The lion then ran towards the two males who stood there watching it coming towards them, the wolf that had snapped at its face rushing towards the lion and jumping on its back. They watched as the wolf got flung off the cave lion's back as it then resumed its run towards them. "I don't know if we can do this Solmani," said Valhalla.

"We'll manage pup. Tough it up," said Solmani. The older wolf huffed as the female shouted at them to help it out, neither male bothering to respond to her. As the female landed near them after being flung off a second time, Solmani looked down at the wolf. Huffing to himself, he flicked his tail to Valhalla and the youngster moved to get behind the lion while Solmani darted up to its face to distract it, being mindful of its claws and teeth.

As Aukaneck approached the wolf, he could see it shift form, revealing it to not be a wolf but rather a human...cursed like himself and his comrades. The woman held a coat around her torso and bent to pick up a rabbit at her feet. His brother and the female remained behind him, though he could his brother's whine and nervous shifting on the snow as the wolf changed and revealed itself to be cursed like them. For Aukaneck, he found this rather interesting. This meant the second person they'd come across that was cursed. "Cursed...apparently like yourself. As are my companion and sibling," said Aukaneck. "It seems you were chased out of your family clan as well."

For a minute, Aenor let her attention flicker to the whining wolf in the background. It seemed that its nerves were getting to it. This, Aenor took as a sign that her first impressions hadn't been utterly ruined, at least. That, or, the wolf was hiding something. If this man told the truth, then they were cursed, as well. One of them was his sibling, and the other, just a companion. She couldn't say which was which, at the moment.
She remained silent at his final statement, just long enough to think about it. It wasn't much their business, whether she had been run out or not. But his wording implied that they had been, too. She wasn't sure if his words were an attempt at finding more common ground, or just that - simple words.
"... We can survive just fine without them," she finally responded, a hint of regret to her otherwise-bitter tone, "So I don't see how it matters. We're on our own, regardless."
She paused for a moment, her eyes wandering over the group as she relaxed. The ease was only slight. No matter what she said, there was some kind of comfort in hearing that other clans had rejected their cursed members as well. She'd been jealous of Drust for some time now, knowing that he'd left of his own accord, though she would never admit it.
"But when I asked, 'who are all of you', I was more so asking your names. Unless we plan on parting ways. I have another cursed individual waiting for me to return."

Thalia watched the group and patiently waited. She moved along with them as they tried to find a good place to graze which wasn't really anywhere given the snow covering the ground. They eventually picked a spot after some light, slow traveling and Thalia got to watch as the bison used their powerful and sharp hooves to dig through the layers of snow building up to get to the grass beneath. Some part of her thought it was cool how they adapted to the snowy environment like that. She was more adept at watching things and analyzing the choices and movements that were made rather than carrying a conversation. She was quite the loner in that retrospect, coming off as cold and aggressive when she did speak to anyone which must've been a result from the tribe she was raised in. The other part, that more aggressive side coming from both her upbringing and her werewolf curse thought of the bison merely as food. Fun game to prod at and take down so she could sink her teeth in for a good meal. It was surprising how much her new instincts had started taking an effect on her and she wasn't sure how much she liked that. She honestly wasn't sure about the whole curse thing. It could give her a slight advantage in surviving the harsh environments, but her humanity was slipping with each passing day her wolven instincts getting stronger the longer she was alone. If some spirit or god really had cursed her, then they were cruel.

It wouldn't do her any good to think of that now. Muttering dark curses at the gods wasn't going to feed her. For that, she'd need to enact her plan. She waited for all the bison to get preoccupied with their grazing as it would not do her good to have one of them see her attack. It could alert the others and cause her cover to be blown. Once she was sure they were good, she watched her own bison. She saw her chance and swiped her spear to get a cut on the back of an ankle of one of the back legs. Her noise took in the tang of blood as she shifted away. The bison let out a startled, painful noise and looked towards the back leg. She saw the blood dripping down to make the snow around it a little red. It wasn't the deepest of injuries as she was still going for stealth but it was a start.

The bison got on the move becoming ever so alert now and not wanting to stay in case of danger. The group slowly moved with her bison getting a limp in the leg she had hit. It was perfect. She'd be able to start hacking away at it with quick swipes with it not knowing where the attacks were coming from.

Mask

Mask kept staying behind the cave lion and snapping at its heels so it wouldn't have too much of an advantage to claw or bite her. The large female then tossed herself on the cave lion again, holding on by biting into its neck roughly. Her friend, Wink, and a wolf neither of the females recognized still lie on the ground in a bit of shock.

Mask then bit hard on its shoulder blade before being swung off much farther than before and she didn't move. Wink stared at her friend in disbelief and bounded over to her large friend. "Mask? Mask, don't give up! Will you?"

Mask winced from a, now fresh cut over her left eye, and heaved a sigh. "Come on, Mask!"

Wink then realized that her friend wasn't going to budge from where she lie. Wink, who was a bit small for a female anyway, went running over and snapping at the lion. The golden wolf wasn't all too sure how to stop this large feline anyhow! Wink was always too scared to do anything. She would never try anything new and even defend herself if she needed to.

(Sorry it's short, I didn't know what to write...)

Aukaneck was silent as the female responded that they could survive just fine without their former families and clans. "Do you think so?" he queried. "Not alone you won't...you'll likely be dead before the season is up." But as she mentioned that she had a friend who was also cursed waiting for her, something flashed over Aukaneck's face though it was too fleeting to make out the emotion. These words, however, caused the two wolves behind him to look at each other. He could sense the regret in the woman's tone plain as day, mixed with bitterness. Ah, so she had some lingering feelings of humanity did she? "Traveling as a group would be better. Two wolves on their own won't make much of a difference," he said. "Names? Aukaneck and my brother Quamaniq," he turned slightly to point out the gangly white wolf behind him. "Beside him is Rosario, the creamish-tan wolf. I'd say if you and your friend want to survive this weather, you're better off joining us...at least for a couple seasons and the come summer, you can choose to leave or not. Being cursed as you are...as we are, it's likely none of us would survive Dim Sun alone separately. Perhaps as a group we can make it through Dim Sun. It's only Ice Moon after all...the moons will likely get worse until middle Rimewane."

Solmani watched as the cave lion was rushed at by the one female again and thrown off after leaping onto its back and biting into its shoulder. When she was tossed aside, another wolf rushed towards her before snapping at the feline. Solmani turned his head towards Valhalla and instructed the youngster to use the female's distraction to go in around it and grab its tail if he could. The black and silver furred wolf nodded and circled around the lion as the female distracted it, snapping onto its tail as Solmani would go for its neck when the lion would spin on Valhalla. Snapping his jaws on the animal's neck, he used his weight to push the lion down, keeping a tight grip on its neck as Vahalla jumped back and then darted in, snapping at the lion's face and paws that were swiped towards it.

Aenor winced, taking some insult to the other werewolf's belief that they wouldn't last the season. She knew it as well as he did, that two people alone were as good as dead in this weather. But hearing aloud might damage anyone's self-esteem, and she'd always been a proud woman. Still, she could set that aside in the name of survival. Her feelings would be useless if she was dead.
Aukaneck, Quamaniq, and Rosario - she looked over each as they were introduced, trying to pin names to the faces. Eventually satisfied that she would remember, her eyes flitted back to Aukaneck.
As much as she didn't like to admit it, what he said was correct. Ice Moon itself was difficult, and the moons to follow would only grow more and more ruthless. Even when relief came in the form of Rimewane, if they had been crippled too heavily by Ice Moon, then they wouldn't survive to see the moons following it. Her gaze flickered off to the side, thoughtful. Slowly, she began to nod.
"That much is true. Dim Sun never was a fair time," she agreed, looking at him yet again, "Right. Allow me to retrieve my companion. You can follow if you wish, or if you have nowhere better to go. But perhaps we should travel together for a time. For both of our sakes."
It wasn't completely right of her to make this decision without Drust's input. But she felt that she could say with some confidence that he would have agreed as well, perhaps even faster than she had. She wasn't worried that he would put up a fuss.
She turned halfway, adding, "My name is Aenor."
With that said, she finished her swerve and started off in the direction she'd come. If Drust had done what she'd told him to, he would still be waiting for her where she'd left him. They could learn his name when they got there. She'd already made a decision without him, the least she could do was let him introduce himself.

Thalia was managing even with the icy cold of the wind. She moved in an awkward position with the bison. Walking on all fours in her human form while the snow was piled up was certainly not an easy task. However, she had learned to stay patient and suffer through it. Show no weakness as her former clan believed. Even with her parting from that group, she couldn't get the virtues that were instilled in her from birth out of her mind.

She saw chances where she could cut at the bison and soon its leg had a few slices of varying size and effectiveness. She readjusted her skull mask as it gave a grunt to warn the rest of the herd. They were on higher alert now and she dashed away from her chosen Bison. The scent of blood stung her nose, though she was satisfied with the wounds she had inflicted. With it being so big, the Bison was practically wobbling. It seemed to hurt too much when it put the back leg on the ground, so it kept it up while standing. She couldn't help the grin on her face, but even if she could no one could see it with her mask on. She'd pretty much assured her victory, but it was no time to be getting cocky with still so much work to be done.

The herd stayed still while looking around for any sign of danger. Things could get a little slow, which was where she needed to be patient. They could either decide there was no danger and move on or be extra cautious. She hoped it wasn't the latter. Whatever the case, she'd let them decide. After all, her chosen bison would become weaker and weaker with time now that it had some wounds.

Wink

Wink then noticed a flash of fear from the cave lion-- how strange. Maybe it thought this was all too much? She couldn't be too sure.

The cave lion then turned tail and ran off out of just fear and anger. Wink stood where she was to catch her breath. Her single amber eye looked at the other wolves but stalked away toward her friend, Mask.

"The lion's gone, Mask," Wink murmured to her. Mask still lie there but roughly she leaned up just to be sure, just in case.

Mask grumbled and attempted to stand, but fell onto her flank. She was completely worn out. Timoteo had caught himself better now and stood up, his blue eyes darting around scarcely. His gaze landed on the other unknown wolves. Would they kill us? he thought. A cold shiver escaped down his spine and his neck fur bristled.

"Thanks..." he muttered to Wink and Mask. Wink nods but looks over at the others again silently.

Aukaneck was silent as he listened to the female speak, not particularly caring if he had offended her or not. When the female finally acknowledged his words about not surviving long through the season with just two wolves and how it might be prudent, if they wanted to survive, to join up for at least the rest of the reason, she nodded and then said she'd like to retrieve her companion. With the offer of either joining or not, Aukaneck turned his head towards his brother and their female companion, knowing his brother at least would leave decisions up to him. The female however looked somewhat uncertain but nodded and as the woman turned back briefly to speak her name, Aukaneck huffed before flicking his tail at his companions, causing them to follow him as he led them after the female with the order to keep their eyes open.

As they were fighting the cave lion that was attacking one of the strange wolves, it suddenly turned and fled, the pup letting the cat's tail go as it ran off into the wilderness. One of the females appeared worn out as she couldn't stand when she tried getting to her paws and the original wolf seemed to have finally stopped running while a third looked over at them. Solmani huffed, lion blood dripping from his teeth before turning and making to head away from the trio of wolves back to their waiting others. Valhalla hurried after the larger wolf as he began walking away...it seemed Solmani had no desire to stick around.

Mask

Mask lightly flicked her ears as Wink continued speaking, but Mask wasn't listening. The large black she-wolf slowly stood to her paws and growled at Wink to shut up. "You didn't even bother to thank them, huh?" Wink stepped back from her larger friend and sat down, near the other wolf, Timoteo.

Mask stalked over to the strangers and barked to get their attention. She was completely ignoring her limp, she was pretty good at ignoring the pain. "Thank you two, for helping us," she says, her eyes staring forward. She didn't have much hostility in her tone now.

Solmani growled as one of the females walked over to them, barking as it came to a stop in front of them. His blue-orange eyes stared at the female and it thanked him for helping them. “Well, you need to learn to fight more of you’re going to make it in this world,” he said.

“Welcome,” chirped in Valhalla, standing behind Solmani.

Three of the infants would end up passing due to being exposed to the elements for too long, leaving just the pair of pregnant dams with Quinn's daughter Poppy, a little tan male pup and a little grey pup with Poppy being black like her damn. The dead pups had been buried though the two females in desperation and a need to feed themselves in addition to Opal's unborn young would end up scavenging from the carcass of the deceased mother of one of the dead pups or perhaps the pups that were currently nursing at Quinn's belly. A makeshift snow den had been dug out to house the two females and pups. As the dam had given birth not long ago, she was still producing milk and decided to take in the abandoned living pups as her own, the youngsters shifting automatically as they were pushed against her stomach, the mother wolf laying on her side. Opal, being pregnant and wanting to stretch her legs despite the walking they'd done already since both had been curse, the pup Quinn carried also being cursed and it made Opal fearful for her own young. The wolf told Quinn she was going to stretch her legs and have a look around, the tired mother not speaking as the trio of pups huddled at her side and grabbed the half-eaten carcass, dragging it with her.

Dropping the carcass finally when she couldn't drag it anymore, the woman thought it was a good distance from where she and Quinn had found to settle and continued on, pausing to lick at her belly which was beginning to fill out. Not enough to damper movement but enough to create problems when trying to find food for herself, the female being close to four months. Her paws took her hesitantly through the forest, eyes scanning her surroundings as she remained on high alert, a gust of wind blowing past her face and forcing her to duck her head. Hunger drove the female on, continuing her search for food and nutrition or some water to quench her throat after their long walking. Her scent could likely be picked up as she ventured further into the wilderness around her, catching the eventual scent of bison and making her way towards there.

Thalia looked up as a gust of wind blew over the open stretch of field land. Either that or a moor, she couldn't really tell with the snow all piled up. She cursed under her breath. The bison made loud grunts that she could barely hear over the roar of wind. They seemed to be even more startled and on edge than before. Their tails flicked nervously, and they grunted out warnings to each other. They got into a group, females and calves in the center with the bulls taking up the rear to guard them. Their horns jutted out defensively. As she was seen as a calf, she was ushered into the inner ring.

The girl pulled her skull mask up a little so she could point her nose and get a good sense of the scents. Though, the bison scent clogged up her nose and it was hard to get a good chance at picking up all the scents in the area. Then, another strong breeze blew, and her good sense of smell picked up a troubling scent. Wolf scent. Wolves were a bad topic with her. When she was first cursed and out on her own, she'd tried talking to wolves, seeing if they were people too. They didn't respond with words, but with growls, snarls, and bites. It was hard and she hadn't really been the same since. It was an experience that made her believe she was alone in this. Now, there was a wolf coming, heading her way. It wasn't going to get her meal, that's for sure. She needed to eat.

Her hands were blistered from the cold and felt numb. Walking with them on the snow wasn't good, especially when she was in human form. But it was the only thing she could do to ensure her plan worked. And she couldn't allow the wolf to get the meal she had already worked so hard on. So, she took her spear and jabbed it into the side of her chosen bison, the boldest move she had made yet. It made a yelping grunt and surged forward to get the spear dislodged. The bison panicked once more with strangled grunting noises. She dashed away from the bison as it whirled around to face its' attacker. Her hands hurt and slowed her, but luckily the bison was too quick with its movements. It was thoroughly limping now, blood trickling down its side and staining the once white powdery snow. It was slowing down itself and could barely even stand on the leg. So much so that whenever a hoof touched the ground, the bison let out a loud, horrible moaning sound. She grinned and secured her mask on her face. Hopefully soon. But she might also have to fend off her attacker from the downed prey. Well, when that happened, she'd be ready for the wolf. She was not letting it get to her or her prey.
