As usual James was up bright and early this morning heading to work before the sun was up. It was a slow morning at the Cafe and his boss let him go early leaving him plenty of time before the start of school. He was glad for it somtimes having this job meant cutting it really close to the start of first period and he was glad he wouldn't be starting the first day of the new year off like that. After quickly changing in the restroom he grabbed a coffee a low surgar treat and and some donuts for some of the school faculty then, headed down the sidewalk to school, enjoying the morning breez and sun.

A short five minute walk later he was at the school. A place he almost considered his second home. With his mom working here his whole life he would spend several hours here after school while Ms. Callahan finished up any work she needed to get done. This meant he knew the school and the long term faculty quite well. With a smile on his face James made his way around to a side entrance by the football feild giving it a special knock to let the choaches know it was him. A few moments later the door swung open and an large African man stood in the entrance a stern look stiched across his face. " Good morning Mr. Hennings I got a sugar donut with your name written all over it." The man's stern face quickly melted into a giant smile. "James how the heck are ya? Get in here young man wouldn't want that pale skin of yours to get burned. Ya not workin this morning?" Mr. Hennings voice rang loud with a seldome heard joyful tone. (seldome heard to most anyways)

James chuckled as he stepped inside opening the box of donuts and presenting it to the man. " Oh Im doing pretty good Mr. Hennings thanks!! and nah we were just slow this morning so they let me go a little early. Guess nobody is in a rush to get the day started." He laughed as Mr. Hennings grabbed his donut from the box. " Hey I got a lot more people to see before the halls get to full but ill see you later." James continued closing the box and heading down the hall. " oh and tell your husband I said hi" He called back as he continued through the halls stopping in several classrooms greating teachers and handing out donuts. That task done and after stopping to say hi to his mom James headed out to the front courtyard seeing the place still empty he smiled as he walked over to his favorite tree setting his bag down and sitting under it's shade. He pulled out his current "light reading" Astrophysics for Physicists, by Arnab Rai Choudhuri. and sat reading contently waiting for more students to show up.

Thiago slowly closed his eyes as the gleam of the sun rays peeking around the window finally hit his eyes. It was six in the morning, but he was already awake, cleaned up, dressed, and ready to begin his day. His body never fell out of the habit of needing so little sleep, so he was always first to rise in his household. First to prep the mate for his wife and walk the dog. He was comfortable with the silence that the morning brought. It gave him time to enjoy the serenity of his older days. After leaving breakfast for his wife to wake up to, he heads out onto his beloved motorcycle. It was old, but well maintained. Thiago had a passion for riding and often spent his off time daydreaming about the next great route. He cruised along the roads with a very content smile as he passed cars and students to get to his work.

Once he arrived and locked up his bike by the front, Thiago took his post at the entrance of the school to monitor and welcome all the students and faculty coming into the school with a bright, warm welcome. Standing at the helm, Thaigo wanted to start off the new school year amiably and help the new kids find their classes without issue. The cacophony and chaos of the first day back after summer break was sure to cause some events, so he was eager to be of assistance. Children filed through the halls like a stream as the time went on. As the groups began to settle and the busses locked their brakes, Thiago would begin patrolling around the school chatting with students and responding to whomever needed him.

It was early and Momo was walking through the town she went to a alleyway before going to school she went to visit the stray black cat she called kurayami she pet the cat and walked to school as the cat followed her when she arrived the school was crowded she walked in class sitting in the back reading her manga she looked out the window as students were chatting about their summer vacation she sighed normally she would tell the nurse, librarian or counselor about things like that but the nurse didn't come to school yet the counselor was talking in the office and the librarian was setting up book she sighed and took out her sketchbook and started drawing herself as a magical girl that fights evil she smiled slightly at the thought of being a girl that fights evil in a pretty outfit.

A silent house, an empty house besides the slumbering young man. Buzz buzz. Buzz buzz. The watch beeps. Then less then a second later, the phone vibrates while playing “You’re the Best” by Joe Esposito. The one known as Shotaro to some and Connor to others was laying in the prone position. As usual, sheets rumpled off to the side. A great yawn and he climbs out of the bed. His room is square with a nook in the corner opposite the walk-in closet. On the wall above his bed is a replica poster from the Creature from the Black Lagoon. On the adjacent wall, replica posters from the two sequels. It would be clear to visitors that there was a prevalent theme to the room: aquatic. A foot tall scale figurine of the gill-man stood guard at his computer, books about marine life, classic seafaring novels such as Treasure Island. The only deviation was his collection of cookbooks and a sampling of his drawings on his cork bulletin board.

The nook was a shrine to the glory that was Sho's swimming career. Medals and other tributes. Everything meticulously placed. He gave it a fond look before heading into the bathroom. No need to close and lock the door since his parents had left earlier. Such is the life of a family court judge and the life of a forensics scientist. Often, he was alone in the morning when he woke up before school and was alone when he got home. Twentysomething minutes later, water off and a towel off. He returned his bedroom and opened the dresser to obtain a fresh pair of underwear. He then walked into his closet and browsed his clothing. Well, it is the first day. Gotta look nice. He chose brown sneakers, fresh blue jeans. Top? Tee shirts were out of the question. Their purpose in their inanimate lives were for weekend and gym use. Naturally, all that was left were his Henley style shirts and polo shirts. He addressed the gill-man figurine, "What do you think?" He chose the green polo with two inch black horizontal stripes. He spritzed himself with cologne and applied deodorant. Nothing too strong, just enough a hint.

Breakfast followed and so did the crafting of his lunch. Sho rarely ate what the school offered. Maybe once a month? Otherwise, he ate what his own two hands forged. He ran his hands down his firm chest. Gotta treat this right. Dishes in the sink to get their bath when he got home. He made the house was locked up and he had his belongings. He sent a text to his parents to let them know that he was leaving right now. He turned on his phone and set it in its holder. What will it be today? He selected Creedence Clearwater Revival to journey with him to Belleview High. Why CCR? He felt their music was so much unlike J-Pop which he didn't much care for beyond the alluring young men and their good looks. No more need to hide my feelings anymore. Speaking of good looks, he had studied their skin and hair care tactics to use on himself. With success I do say so myself. Stunning face and great bod. Jackpot.

18 minutes later, roughly, he arrived and parked in the Senior lot. The ballads of CCR were still playing. Not too loud, but just enough. Engine off and he collected his belongings and stepped out. Eyes hidden behind sunglasses, he made the trek to the main entrance. As he got closer, and the glare of sun had properly diminished, he took off his sunglasses. The first face he recognized was that of James Callahan. He gave a friendly smile and a slight wave. Sho had been to the Diggers Rest café a few times. Mainly for appearances. The second he recognized was Mr. Salvatierra. He gave the man a respectful nod.

Sho opened the door and there were some heading in and out and he felt the need to hold the door open for passers-by until there was an opportunity to enter. He headed to the locker that he was assigned and set it up. The last thing was the small mirror which he set in the doorway. He looked into it and took out the comb in his back pocket and touched up his hair one more time. He gave himself a small pep talk as he looked at his reflection, <Today is the start of your final year Shotaro Sanada. Let's make the most of this day.>

ISAIAH RICHARDS

Isaiah had been awake long before his alarm went off. He hadn't slept much. How could he with the dread of school looming over him? Summer break had flown by in a heartbeat. He already missed staying up late, getting up late, and best of all getting to mind his own business for the most part. Sure, Belleview High was fine. So far unproblematic. But it would take a lot more than that for school to be enjoyable. Groaning, he dragged himself out of bed and began to prepare for the day.

His mother was able to drive him in and pick him up most days, as she usually worked from home. Today was no exception, thankfully, as otherwise the school was two bus rides away. He sat silently in the front passenger seat, the original cast recording of Be More Chill playing through his headphones. An appropriate choice, given the circumstances, but it also happened to be something Isaiah had spent most of the summer obsessing over. He'd always loved musicals, but this one in particular had resinated with him. (In fact, it was the final push to movitate him to try out drama club this year.) He wasn't a social outcast, exactly, but there was no denying that feeling of not fitting in. From a young age, he'd felt different to those around him. Almost like he was from another planet, at times - something difficult to articulate. He couldn't put his finger on why. He figured everyone else felt the same, and was yet to be told otherwise.

After getting the love yous and goodbyes over with, Isaiah lent in for his mother to kiss him on the head, before getting out of the car and walking to the school entrance. He looked back and gave her a feeble wave, which was met by a thumbs up. Ever enthusastic, his mother. Ever supportive, too. He knew he was lucky to have that. With that in mind, he kept walking, absentmindedly fiddling with the straps on his backpack and taking in the increasing crowds of other students. He spotted James Callahan sitting in the shade of a tree, reading something. Isaiah was too far away to see what the book was, but he had noticed during their freshman year that his classmate seemed to read a lot of nonfiction. That was the thing with his classmates. He knew their names. He knew things about them. But he didn't know them. Maybe this year he would be able to change that. That was the other reason why he was planning to join drama club. Perhaps he'd find some likeminded people - maybe even make a friend or two. Not that he was getting his hopes up.

Soon he found himself sitting at the back of his homeroom class. He was one of the first there, with the teacher yet to show up. A small sigh of relief escaped him as he interally congratulated himself on getting there. No going back now.

How refreshing it felt to see all the new children eager to find their homeroom and make friends. He guided them all with the flawless expertise of a Belleview shepherd. As he laughed along with all the curious new faces, Thiago managed to catch the glance of the esteemed school swim team athlete walking by. Shotaro Sanada was a very pleasant student, he'd come to know. Disciplined and respectful. He admired the diligence that Shotaro displayed with his appearance and etiquette. With a friendly smile and a slight bow of his head, Thiago watched as Shotaro stood by the door and held it for the stream of students moving in and out before making his way past. He enjoyed seeing the kid grow through the years and turn heads at the swim meets. He wondered idly as he went back to helping the other students if he might see the Sanada name come up on the Olympics some day.

With a slight groan under his breath, Thiago - having finally waved off the final lost freshman of the morning - at last settled into a bench overlooking the courtyard to rest a moment. "Ayyy, estoy viejo. Qué pena.." the once sprightly Argentine said to himself. His voice was coarse as granite, but with some smoothing charm hidden neatly behind. Oh how he enjoyed helping all the excited new faces find their way, but boy did it get harder every year. It felt so long ago, the day he got to show Noel and Amada - his beloved children - around the school on the new golf cart. The sound of their gleeful laughs echoed lovingly in his memory and brought a soft smile to his rugged face. He loved this school and what it represented for him and his family. A new beginning and the opportunity to watch his children grow comfortably. His loyalty was like the slated stone on the walkways of the courtyard. Immovable and solid. As his reminiscing came to an end, he let out a mighty huff and stood up, ready to give the school one last patrol before he goes back to the faculty room. As he went toward the door, he noticed the precocious James Callahan out by his usual spot under the shade of the tree. He was fairly familiar with the boy - his mother being a respected member of the teaching staff. Every now and then, he and Ms. Callahan would exchange pleasant stories of their children and their fun moments in the faculty room. Thiago was nothing if not always eager to talk about his kids. He chuckled to himself as he noticed the thick, heavy book in James' hands and assumed it was something too advanced for his old brain to learn from. With a slight whistle, he went about on his patrol - confident that James would diligently make his way to homeroom when the time came.

James happily sat and read for quite a while as other students began to arrive he would continue reading but diligently offered smiles and waves to those he knew, Including Sho. James didn't really know sho but he sure knew of him as something of a swimming prodigy it was hard not to know who the teen was. Plus he had to admit the older teen had certainly made him do a double take more than a few times. As he waved to Sho, James noticed his ears get a bit hot and he quickly shoved his nose back into his book hoping to avaoid any unwanted attention. Before he knew it the courtyard had cleared out as all the other students made their way to homeroom.

Taking that as a sign James closed his book with a sigh packing it away in his bag as he headed up to the front doors. James saw Mr. Salvatierra making his rounds as he made it to the front door. " Hey Mr. Salvatierra I hope you had a good summer! Me and mom went to Orlando for a couple weeks it was great! But im sure she will tell you all about it." he said Joyfully as he stood holding the door open preparing to head inside. James politley made small talk for a minute before excusing himself. " Well I should probably get going wouldn't want to be late on the first day of softmore year." with that he headed inside diligently weaving his way through the halls on his way to homeroom.

After a few minutes the teen arrived at his destination with a sigh. " ah Mr. Hennings." he spoke under his breath as he headed into the room looking around it seemed he was about the last one to arive. he surveyed the room and saw most of the seats were already ocupied except for one clear at the back of class. James sighed annoyed at his luck being all the way in the back but then it was really his fault for waiting untill the last minute. Tho there was one plus to his seat he noted as he walked over seeing a fairly cute boy in the chair next to him. As he prepared to sit James wracked his brain trying to remember if he knew this kid and what his name was but was coming up empty. He knew he had seen him before but couldn't for the life of him remember anything about him. " Hey... I'm uhh James." he smiled as he sat down looking over to the boy and extending his hand.

ISAIAH RICHARDS

Isaiah was lost in his thoughts, not paying much attention to the classroom as it filled up. It wasn't until he felt the presence of someone sitting next to him that he snapped out of it. To his surprise, it was no other than James Callahan. He would've thought he'd been sitting near the front of the room. Not that he minded the company. After hastily rubbing his hand on his shorts to get rid of any clamminess, he accepted the handshake. He was going for brisk, but firm - like his dad had tried to teach him.

"Yes, you're James Callahan," Isaiah replied with a nod. "Ms Callahan's son. But, uh, of course you know that..." Great start, Isaiah. "Anyway, uh, I'm Isaiah." Before he could blunder any further, Mr Hennings summoned the attention of the class to take attendance and give the typical start of year speech. Welcome back, work hard, etc. When it finally came to an end, they were left to talk amongst themselves again.

"So... how was your summer?" Isaiah asked. He had already mentally prepared a rundown of his daytrip to Disney World, and several barbeques with extended family in case the question was returned. Maintaining conversation was not his strong suit, but he was giving it his best this morning. He glanced at the clock on the wall, noting that it wouldn't be much longer until the first proper classes of the day began.

Shotaro closed the locker quietly. Most students slammed the door shut and it annoyed him. The noise and the abuse. Noise and abuse. Some people think they can do whatever they want. "It's not my property." His nostrils let out a snort of derision. It reminded him of the few times when he would go to to grocery store and either the checker or the sacker would carelessly manhandle the food. Bread squished, fruit or vegetables bruised. That poor innocent loaf of bread. Sometimes the carelessness was so pronounced, he had to hiss his displeasure. "Not so hard." He had much better luck at Daimyo Mart. No problem there. They treat food carefully. This past summer, he was faced with a problem. Work at Daimyo Mart or at the community pool? He was a familiar face in both places and his talents would serve both places well. The solution was to flip a coin. Heads would be to work at the Japanese grocery store and tails would be to work at the pool. The coin landed on tails.

One might think he would bask in the light of prominence. Just another boost to the ego of Show-off Sho. No. There, he was all business as soon as he ascended his tower. Cordial but strict whether or not he was interacting with a fan. His eyes fiercely on the watch for any who would attempt to break one of the rules. Management rated him high because of his professionalism. He gathered his belongings and headed to first period which was Government with Mr. Bradshaw. Ah, Government. My companion here and at home. He and his parents regularly talked about current events on the local, national, and global level. Sometimes, even current events in Japan were discussed. I'm really looking forward to next summer when my parents and I journey through Japan on a two week guided tour.

As he entered the classroom, boisterous greetings of "Connor" or "Sharktaro" coming from his buddies from his swim team or those on the football team. There were shocks, and a few broken hearts, when he came out last year. Reaction was mixed and still remained so even after a year. Shotaro felt he had to work harder to prove himself worthy of earning a role on the team and even more to retain that spot since coming out. Growing up, his father Ryan, had also struggled to prove himself. Perhaps more. In a small town like Sutter, with a population of 10,000, there was a certain mindset when it came to football. He clearly had the physique for it, but did he have the skill? He did. He had true talent and honestly earned his spot on the team as running back. Sho himself had tried out for running back when he was in middle school. He performed well, but it did not hold the same sway over him as swimming did. As a result of the increased complexities of high school, he made the choice of dropping it. Despite this, he retained a certain level of camaraderie with them. He had played alongside many of them including his best buddy and neighbor Bradley Homfeld, a blond young man, who was quarterback. They gave each other high fives and gleeful smiles as they sat next to each other.

While he waited for class to begin, he mused over the new drawing that graced the front of his binder which depicted a piscine humanoid. Nothing like the gill-man, but rather human-faced like the Zora from the Zelda series or Rikuo from Darkstalkers whom the being was more inspired by. He studied the koi-patterned male of orange and white scales wearing swim briefs of Belleview blue, white, and silver. That was what was in his mind since it was still a black and white illustration. Part high school student, part superhero, all stunningly handsome Sho Sanada. Now I just need to think of a backstory and a character name. Now I just need someone to bounce ideas off of. Before he could think any more, the shrill of the first bell sliced through the school and his mind left his hobbies and snapped to attention.
