Do the monster mash...
Bekakar
There is absolutely nothing wrong with our kingdom. The people must learn to go through hardships, otherwise, we will be seen as a weak kingdom.
The Royal Family of Bekakar

The Kingdom to the WestAlso known as the Ruined Kingdom. Bekakar has never had much success with anything. An old mining kingdom, a freak desert storm ruined the kingdom, turning it into a wasteland. Cursed sand surrounds the people, not letting them out, and any traveler who dares make it in is seen as a "Chosen One" who can help the people be freed. The royal family is cruel and crushes any flames of hope that dare spark itself so that they can bask in what riches they have left. However, there is more to this kingdom than meets the eye. Many treasures can be found in the sands that surround the kingdom as well as within the kingdom itself.

Ira walked through the portal and was automatically struck by the amount of intense heat that was in the kingdom. She looked around and saw the sandy dunes...wait...those were buildings! She gasped as she saw the people bustling around, managing to survive in this desert wasteland.
"This is insane. What happened here?" she asked her temporary traveling companion.

With a strangled cry, the player that chose to duel Twilight, faded into nonexistence as his health hit zero. Pulling his two swords from the ground, from where he had impaled the poor player to the ground, Twilight spat upon the ground. "Whose next?" he asked the surrounding crowd, sheathing his swords at his side. Murmurs rang out from the crowd as they watched the man who just brutally killed a player in a duel, walk towards them. "No one?" he said, his voice resounding in the eerie quiet. "So be it." When a path was made for him, he took it. Bumping into a female knight, he growled at her. "Watch it newbie."

It was a familiar sound to any players in Bekakar. The sound of a pickax hitting ores. A ruined mining kingdom, the Kingdom of the West had plenty of abandoned mines around and about. Such mines were an easy source of money for player, even those with low level. The reason being that while ores were not expensive, the abundance of them make it easy mine a large quantity of them.

In one of the numerous abandoned mine, Ether was mining.

The sight of someone in a suit swinging a pickax in a dirty mine might sound out of place in the real world, however, in CyberCell, such sight was not surprising. Ether wiped his clean forehead. It was a game after all, so no sweats would form no matter how hard he work, but the gesture felt appropriate. He opened his inventory.

    15x Scrap Metals
    6x Bronze ingots
    2x Slime Core

Scrap Metals were dirt cheap and at lower level mine, they popped up a lot. Even 15 of them wouldn't make up to an amazing amount. However, it wasn't important for Ether. The reason for his mining after all, was not for mining metals. As he prepared to make another swing, a blobbing sound caught his attention.

"Took them long enough," he muttered to himself as he put the pickax in his inventory and equipped his weapons.

The source of the sound was no other than Ore Slimes. When one mine for prolonged time, there was a slight chance the activity would attract some monsters. Ether didn't have to wait long. In his line of sight, Four gooey oval shaped creatures started to move toward his direction from the distance. Ether greeted them with a throw of his card. The card spun in the air before it landed on the slime, dealing damages. The slime kept moving forward, while Ether kept throwing cards, retreating as he went.

As a battle, it was quite anticlimatic.

When the last of the slime burst from damage, Ether sighed out of relief. Frankly, he didn't really like fighting. While others might find it exhilarating, he didn't enjoy the rush he felt from the pump of adrenaline. He walked toward the Ore Slimes corpse and took their core and ore. The slimes were called Ore Slimes not without reason. Apart from their cores, the Ore Slimes carried an ore in their body, which determine their strength as well. Seeing that the last Slime took him quite a while to kill, it must have a good ore in it.

    "Ah, here it is."

A bronze ingot. Ether put the ingot and slime core in his inventory before he left the time and headed to the nearby town. Unlike before, he had a faint grin on his face, and his eyes sparkled with anticipation. He had enough money to buy something now!

Kiro watched as his new companion was seemingly shocked at what happened to the kingdom. He honestly did not care too much, as all he wanted to do was to grow more powerful. "There are worse places. Some of which we have to go through eventually...Its not like it is any of my concern anyways." Kiro then looked at his guide book to find the directions to get to the quest giver, ignoring the lunatic who randomly killed someone. He didn't think anyone would give a crap about things like these as people had things to take care of. It seemed that the video game world was not too far from the real world after all.

Turning to Ira, Kiro pointed towards a direction. "The quest giver should be located in a building through the markets over there." He closed the book and placed it back in his inventory when the guy from before who killed someone bumped into Ira. Kiro eyed the guy brielfy, sighed and then began walking towards their destination. Looking back at Ira, he nudged his head towards their destination, with him walking onward so that she keeps up with him, leaving the guy behind. It was best to avoid and ignore such people. However, if she wanted to stay back and quarrel with him, he would not stand in her way.

"Hmmmm? A lesser tier book for Tricksters? I should have one around here somewhere..." Octavia replied as she did a quick name search on the player Ethertush. Octavia found that he was indeed a Trickster though he was only a level 1.

"So he is someone who uses luck as his primary ability....Interesting," Octavia thought to herself. "He also uses cards as his main weapon though his secondary is a whip. Pretty interesting weapon of choice since most people in this game use either a sword, bow, or shield."

Octavia left the entrance of her tavern and walk down the hallway that lead to different parts of her shop. Octavia entered her Library where she found some people looking at her hand-made, elegant books on display. She walked over to the section of her bookshelves made for Rogue classes and found a few rogues on the ground asleep. An effect Octavia placed on her shelves to keep people from stealing her books whenever she is not around. Octavia stepped over the sleeping rogues and found a book for the small rogue.

"This should be a useful skill for a trickster like him," Octavia thinks as she pulls out one of the books. "Poison touch, upon slicing a target, the target is inflicted with poison for 3 seconds. The amount of damage the target takes is dependent on the users level. The cooldown for this skill is 25 seconds. Since its a lesser book, the max amount of damage it will do is 30. Should be a useful for small scuffles."

Octavia took the book out of its display and walked over to her potion shop. Octavia look around her prototype section and found a potion she wanted to try out. This potion is suppose to enhance the users agility, though so far it has caused many of the users to act slowly. So MAYBE this time the potion will work properly for the user.

Octavia walked back into the tavern room where she found Ethertush waiting.

"Sorry for the wait darling. Here is the potion and the book you asked for. The book will cost you 10k and the potion will cost you around 300 coins."

Ira looked behind her to see the guy who bumped into her. She decided to keep quiet. It wasn't like she would bump into him again. She followed her new companion to the quest master's shop.
"Some people didn't have parents growing up, huh?" she said quietly to herself. She continued to walk.

The edge of his mouth twitched when he heard of the price. He miscalculated! It was a bit over his budget, but it affected his situation greatly.

Ether received the skill book and read the description. The skill was good enough for a Level 1 like him! However, when it came to the potion, he could only smile bitterly. Should he went for a Level 1 Quest after all?

"I'd be 200 C short to buy a Level 2 Quest if I do buy it, but I'll take the potion for now," he said with a weak smile "and speaking of Quest, I'd like to buy a Level 1 Quest as well!"

When he considered his class, it couldn't be helped. Trickster was not a battle oriented class from the beginning. He shouldn't aim too high for now. Putting the dubious potion and skill book into his inventory, Ether handed over the payment for the book and potion to the Quest Master.

The walk to the Questgiver's was filled by an awkward silence. Kiro was too focused on getting to his destination, purchasing quests and then leaving to quickly complete it. He was thinking about what quest he was going to purchase. He wanted to spend 10k of his money to buy a book that could power up his abilities and then buy a level 2 quest with the rest. However, he could also put together some money and purchase a more difficult quest with Ira. That was largely dependent on how much money she had and how much patience he had.

As they reached their destination, Kiro stopped in front of the entrance and turned to Ira. "Here we are." He then walked in and saw that the questmaster was preoccupied with someone else. Kiro stood in queue and waited for the person in front of him to finish.

"Lets see here...A level 1 quest..." Octavia tapped the air to pull up a list of quests that she was suppose to give to the people who asked her for quest. Octavia found a few quest for level 1 players that the King and Queen of Bekakar have given to her along with some quests for her own needs. "Umm...You can...protect a certain cargo heading here from the West. Its a very valuable cargo and it must be delivered to me in one piece. I am sure this should be an easy quest for you." Octavia smiled, "The cargo should be around two days worth of time. So if you complete the quest in 4 days, you will receive a special bonus. Just be weary of the snake people that attack people during the night as they are traveling along their way to Bekakar."

Ira looked at the store and walked in, "Thank you."
She was surprised when the "store" actually looked more like a tavern. The place looked like it was dug out of a large sand dune, with tables to sit at and shelves with various products. She stared in awe at the decor and the use of the natural elements to make the store unique. She spotted the owner of the store, Octavia. She looked like someone you didn't want to mess with. It was better to tread carefully around her.
"So what are you planning to do?" Ira asked Zero.

While waiting for the player in front of them to finish, Ira asked him a question regarding what he was planning to do later on with the game. Without turning, Kiro started to formulate an answer. "My goal is similar to that of all players really...getting more powerful. Now, I will be trying to upgrade my abilities to have better utility, damage and etc. I already know how exactly I want to upgrade them really. It all depends on whether Octavia has the books I need. I realise that now I don't have enough money to buy them all yet which is why I will settle for upgrading 1 of them and then buying a quest to get a feel for the game. After that I will be doing the more difficult quests and coming back to get more books. I will be in and out of Bekakar for earlier levels and once I have upgraded my abilities well enough, I will go to other questgivers."

Kiro thought that his answer was sufficient as it was a rough outline of what he had planned. He did wonder what Ira wanted to do as well. Did she plan on upgrading her abilities first like him? Did she want to first get powerful equipment? Or was she planning on gathering a certain type of resources and opening a business, with the quests being a way for her to get the money she needed?

"
Do you have a plan?"

An escort mission? Sound basic. Exactly what he needed! A beginner quest with no real threat of failure. If only all quest could be this leisurely, it would be nice. Not that he had much hope for that. Most people played games for the thrill and the adrenaline pumping fight.

"I'll accept," Ether nodded at the end. After all, everyone had to do basic quest before advancing to difficult ones.

"Oh, how much reward can I increase if I throw in two bronze ingots? Not that I can process them or anything,"
he added as he drew out the two ingots from his inventory "they are quite useless for me."

Ira pondered on that question. Should she tell him? She had to take revenge on the Scorpion King for killing most of her battalion, but he would just laugh at her for daring to try and defeat such a powerful monster. She needed to build power first, and she couldn't do that on her own. She needed to make a guild to help her increase her power. She wasn't here to get a quest. She was here to get directions to the best players. She spied her companion from under her lashes, thinking about recruiting him, but he seemed to be a solo player, and would most likely turn her down. She decided to copy his answer.
"Same as you. I'm trying to increase power and make my way to the leaderboard. Gotta get myself noticed by sponsors, you know?" she said and rubbed nervously the hilt of her dagger that rested against her thigh. Hopefully, that was an acceptable answer.

Kiro kept his arms crossed in front of him while waiting. He listened to Ira's answer with him giving a somewhat surprised reaction. "Sponsors? Hmph." He thought of the sponsors as a waste of time and did not think that anybody other than a few lucky select people would get such deals. "Is that what you just tell everyone?...do you actually believe that?" he said with a small chuckle.

Ira rolled her eyes, "Yes, I do. College students gotta make that money."
She rubbed the hilt of her blade again this time, trying to come up with an answer that would make it more convincing. Since he was a rogue, he most likely had the skill to be able to call someone's bullshit. Now she just had to bluff.
"If I get enough power, I can end up on the leaderboard. If I end up on the leaderboard's top five, I can get recognition from the server. Recognition from the server gets me recognition from DreamWave Games. Recognition from DreamWave Games gets me a sponsor. A sponsor gets me money and money gets me something to pay the bills with. Believe that, rogue?"

Kiro was not all that convinced as all she did was paraphrase herself and give an explanation of the process of gaining sponsors. But her going through that length to do so meant that this is what she wanted people to believe. There definitely had to be more to it. He noticed that she rubbed the hilt of her blade again. Perhaps this was something she did while nervous or when lying. He was curious and felt like pressuring her to reveal more. However, Kiro did not care too much. It was none of his business and if she wanted to keep it secret then so be it. "Well...it is your plan. So even if it is a bad one, I haven't the right to judge."

Octavia puts one of her fingers to her lip and thinks for a second.

"Lets see...I have no real use bronze ingots right now," Octavia thought to herself. "So lets see..." Octavia ponders for a minute before deciding to tell Ether that she'll only increase his reward by 2% for the bronze ingots since she had no real use for them.

"I'm sorry dear, but I can't increase your reward any further," Octavia states.

"Ah."

Well, he didn't expect that. Then again, if the ingots were trash to a Level 1 like him, why would the Quest Master, someone stronger than him, need it? Ether put the ingots back in his inventory. He was a bit dejected, but he didn't show it.

"Well, that's that, then,"
he said, grinning at the Quest Master "I will be off now. Good bye, Master Octavia."

He tipped off his hat and made an exaggerated bow before leaving the Shop, humming. To the quest location!

Kiro watched as the guy in front of him got finished. He then walked forwards in order to explain to the quest giver what exactly he wanted. He opened up the main menu and pulled up an information screen that described his 2 abilities, "Coup de Grace" and "Shunpo". He then tapped on his Shunpo ability and opened up a tree of all possible upgrades it could get, with him tapping on a specific one. He turned the screen to her in order to have her recognize it. The upgrade he wished to purchase for now was called "Death Mark".

For every time he used his Shunpo to move to one of his daggers or to the target directly, he got an empowered ability that did a mediocre amount of extra damage. The attack left a mark on the target which increased the damage of his Coup de Grace by a percentage that increased with level. He can apply this stack onto a target multiple times, as long as he struck them after he used his "Shunpo" ability. Although a single stack at this low level wouldn't do much, he recognized that in the later levels, when he had access to multiple knives with his Shunpo ability and when the percentage of the damage increase was higher, the upgrade would be very effective as it would allow him to execute bosses effectively. "I need a book with the "Death Mark" upgrade that I wish to use on this ability."
