BEFORE THE MEDIUM - Lass

Who is this kid?======>

Your name is Ragnar Brooks, you are thirteen years old and you are TOTALLY A PIRATE! Okay, maybe not really, like for instance you don’t have a boat….or a crew….., and you don’t steal things either. But you do like PRETENDING TO BE A PIRATE! Yes! You have the POOFY SHIRTS and the COOL SWORDS and even a SWEET HAT, mostly you run around your house imagining that you are SAILING THE HIGH SEAS. Ha! As Captain Brooks you sink SCURVY NE’ER DO WELL THIEVES leaving their ships in the depths of Davy Jones locker. You fancy that rather than a pirate you are really more like a ROBIN HOOD OF THE HIGH SEAS. Seeking out ships carrying goods acquired through force and thievery and putting an end to such scoundrels! Of course what you hope to be when you grow up is EVEN MORE OUTRAGEOUS, you want to be a real CLOISTERED-ROBED-IVORY-TOWERED-PHILOSOPHER. Someday you will learn to arrive at conclusions through the exclusive use of objective logic and live by your UNSHAKABLE MORAL CODE! But right now that is far too outrageous to even consider, instead you pursue your previously stated interest in piracy and a more academic interest in CORRECTLY INTERPRETING MYTHOLOGY.

Shouldn't you be doing something?

Search for treasure!======>

Well that's not quite what we were going for but okay we can see where this goes...

You have heard of a shipment of fine digital goods passing through your territory today and no quarter shall be given until it is yours! These shiny disks are a treasure more valuable than gold, as such the Professor probably has them in his study with all the other neat historical artifacts (and y'know probably more relevantly where he leaves the mail.) Peering out of your room you find the coast is clear to make a break down the hall for the office, you would not normally be averse to an encounter with your guardian but today you do not have time for deep and time consuming conversations about your career prospects...though if he were to bring up another Captain Roberts story... you might have to find the time for that.

But luck is with you today as you haul to wind clutching your hat to you head and duck into the study.

Examine Study======>

Your guardians study bears the signs of having once been a well kept an imposing space, as evidenced by the fine shelves and cabinets and the pretenious desk. However that time is long past now and you have no idea how long ago it might have been. For as long as you can remember it the study has been what is best described as a complete mess. Surfaces are covered in books and half finished notes spill out into the floor. The shelves perhaps once thoroughly organized have books and artifacts shoved haphazardly into place and covered in a fine layer of dust. But the best artifacts such as the Dread Pirates Flintlocks x2 are kept in the cases, just slightly out of your reach. Your guardian is in the habit now of simply clearing space as he needs it, much like something (or someone) else is more important than something as trite as housekeeping. You think this adds an air of eccentricity and mystery to the study and are quite fond of it!

This is also where the computer is.

Check the computer======>

Well seeing as its going to take you some time to dig through this mess and figure out where the Professor left the mail anyway you figure now is as good a time as any to check in with the friends who are supposed to be joining you in playing this game you're looking for. And- Sink me! You've missed a lot messages!

You are more than happy to ignore the chat for a few minutes while you look for your games. These punctuation fellows are becoming very annoying, especially the question mark one. All their talking in paradoxes, its enough to make your head spin!

Turning away from the computer you shift so you're kneeling on the chair while you rummage through items on the professors desk. Book, big boring paper, Lecture notes, Oooh an envelope! Aw its not your game, its just a letter....To you!

Open letter

Dear Ragnar,

I know you were excited to get your game today. Let's see what you learned from our Pirate stories:

1:1 In the ruin which is in the valley of Acor, under

1:2 the steps leading to the East,
1:3 a pair of silver and their vessels
1:4 with the weight of the universe on their sleeves

Have fun with your friends!

Professor Hughes

Oooh! It's a treasure scroll!  Oh gee okay! Well the weight of the universe cannot refer to a real universe that would silly, but maybe a fake one? A model or something... like the Sburb logo!  Except the first part is weird, In the ruin of the valley....but they can't be all the way in Acor that's not even....but maybe, Under the steps leading to the east... hehe! Aw he could have just told you he put them in the basement!

Retrieve your disks!======>

Jumping off the chair you head for the basement. you are beginning to wonder where your guardian could possibly be as you fail to run into him on your way downstairs either. But the disks are right where he said they would be, under the basement stairs!
