Realistic or Modern Be Ready For Me

By the time Carmen arrived as well she was sore and exhausted and just trying to keep it together long enough to see him awake and know that he was okay, heading up to where Nick had said they had put him and signed in, going to see his room. She noticed him stood in the doorway and just swallowed a little. "How's he doing?" She asked him quietly, heading in there and just frowned seeing Laura sat with him, not about to make a scene right now. "They get his temperature up yet?" She asked, frowning again when Laura answered for him. "Honestly, I wasn't talking to you. I'm trying to keep it that way because I'm not here to stir shit up. I got so many questions for you but right now, I wanna know how he's doing." She muttered, stepping out of the room when Nick guided her to, planning to sleep in the waiting room anyway.

Her Mom frowned and looked over at him, stepping over and placing a hand on his shoulder, "Will? Sweetheart?" She asked frowning more when he didn't respond at all and just continued to stare at the wall. "Do I need to get someone?" She asked, looking back to Max and went to hold her hand again, squeezing it in reassurance. "Honey I don't think he's gonna be able to be here right now." She frowned

Laura frowned when Carmen walked in and rolled her eyes when she started to ask questions "Obviously they have with the lack of blankets." She spat with a roll of her eyes before turning her attention back to Noah.

Nick quickly escorted Carmen out and shook his head a bit "They got his temp up. Its not perfect yet but its better than it was. Ignore her though alright?" He said quietly before sitting with her "They're keeping him sedated until tomorrow, once he gets fluids and atleast a few meals in they're wanting to send him to an actual mental hospital." He explained to her with a heavy sigh.

Max gulped and gave a small nod "Okay....can you call his mom for me? Maybe she could be with him and Maya." She said quietly trying to not break down in tears at the fact he would be missing the birth of their son and couldn't help it.

She sighed and just nodded. “I wanna know how the fuck it’s got this bad and she didn’t think to say anything to anyone. I don’t expect a single person to fix him but fuck me he didn’t get to this state overnight.” She mut5ered, rubbing at her face. “I need to go make a call but I’ll be back in a minute.” She told him quietly, heading out to go give her brother instructions for the animals

Laura had stepped out to talk to the nurses and asked for her to be kept out of the room while her and nick were gone, going to sit down again wi5h him and sighed. She still planned to leave him but she was too stubborn to let it be carnen who was there when he woke up.

She nodded and got it organised for his mom to come pick him up, staying with her the whole time instead, rubbing her back gently to try and soothe her. “I know this isn’t how you guys planned for it to go but you know he wants to be here.” She 5ikd her.

Nick gave a heavy sigh as he ran a hand over his face. He blamed himself a bit for not checking in sooner on him but he also had his own life to live and he just thought Noah may have wanted space.

Max cried quietly as she held onto her mother and nodded some "I know....I just feel like I'm loosing him completely." She said through sobs

Laura sat with him the next morning, smoothing his hair away from his face and frowning a little. “Noah I’m here. I’m right here.” She told him as he’d been asking since he woke up ‘where is she?’, still assuming he meant her. In reality she had assumed that carmen only knew what had happened because nick had told her. Not that in his crisis state he’d called carmen.

“You won’t honey. He’s just hitting a bump in the road.” She tried to reassure her. “But you got something more exciting to worry about right now. Did you guys pick a name yet?” She asked her, trying to keep her positive.

Noah frowned deeply when he woke up to see Laura there. He didn't remember much of the night, only that he had called Carmen at some point. "Where is she?" He asked again for what seemed like the hundreth time just as Nick walked into the room.

Max nodded some and placed a hand to her stomach "We decided on William James." She said quietly just trying to keep positive now like her mother told her.

He frowned when Laura just kept saying that she was right there. “Hey man…. If you mean Carmen, she’s in the waiting room.” He told him. “How you feeling?” He asked him, knowing they probably still had him drugged up to keep him calm. “What do you remember?” He asked him gently, sitting down on the other side.

She nodded to her and smiled some. “I think that’s lovely. I bet maya can’t wait to meet him.” She smiled, just keeping her occupied so she wasn’t dwelling on what was going on with will.

Noah perked up a bit at the mention of Carmen "I don't....remember anything. Other than Carmen.." he said quietly looking at his best friend "Can I see her?" He asked completely ignoring Laura now.

The baby didn't take nearly as long as Maya did to get there. Within 5 hours Max held their son in her arms smiling happily down at him "You think his mom could bring Maya?" She asked her mom quietly

He shook his head. “Not right now man. She’s finally eating something. Laura I need you to leave now…. I’ll call you when you can come back. Go get some lunch or something.” He told her firmly, waiting til she stormed off in a huff. “You scared us bad last night…. Stood on your front lawn soaking wet in your underwear, screaming about saving people…. They uh…. You’re gonna go get some help for a while once they’re satisfied you’re okay to leave.”

She nodded and kissed her head, going to make the call for her and give her a minute with the little one, calling Maria and spoke to her for a minute before heading back in and smiled at her. “She uh… she can bring her in about an hour.” She told her, not wanting to stress her out too much right now.

Noah gave a small nod and frowned deeply as he ran a hand over his face "I don't....shit I just want to see her." He whispered closing his eyes as he felt some nausea run over him since he had nothing on his stomach still "Food....they got anything?" He asked quietly actually having an apetite for the first time in a while.

Max nodded smiling as she looked at the baby in her arms "God he looks just like Will." She said quietly letting a few tears fall "Is he okay?" She asked frowning when her mom said nothing "Mom....did she say if Will was okay or not?"

He nodded. “I’ll see what they can do alright? Then I’ll send her in.” He promised.

Carmen finished up with her lunch and soon headed in to see him having not slept a wink, going over to him silently, sitting on the edge of the bed and took his hand in hers tightly.

She nodded. “He’s alright. He’s just…. He’s still really hazy is all. She’s worried because he’s not really recognising his surroundings. But his sister is gonna go keep an eye on him while she brings maya down.” She told her.

Noah smiled happily when he saw her walk in "Hey.....Nick's getting food for me.." he said quietly before squeezing her hand gently "He told me...what happened. I'm sorry....I only remember calling you." He said softly

Max nodded and gave a heavy sigh "Alright....I just...I hope it passes soon." She murmured before letting a few tears fall.

She nodded slowly, frowning. “I’m just glad you’re doing okay.” She told him quietly, “and you can take my advice or you can ignore it but if this is how you’ve ended up with Laura, then you need to drop her and move on…. Because I don’t… I don’t want the next call to be that you’re dead.” She choked out. “Maybe we didn’t work out but I will always care about you Noah.” She told him quietly, reaching over with her bandaged hand and gently pushed some hair out of his face.

She nodded and looked down to the baby, smiling. “Oh look at him sweetheart.” She smiled. “I thought I’d come stay with you for a few days while you get settled if you like.” She suggested. “I know you know what you’re doing but it’s a lot right now and I want to help if I can.” She told her.

Noah let a few tears of his own fall "What happened?" He asked as he gently took her bandaged hand in his. He looked over it gently and tensed when she said it had been him last night "I-I stabbed you?" He asked quietly before letting more tears fall "Carmen....shit Carmen I'm so sorry."

Max nodded appreciatively "Yes, that would be great." She said quietly before kissing the top of little Will's head "Got a head full of hair just like Maya did."

She shook her head and frowned again. “I already know that. It’s alright. I promise you it’s alright.” She coaxed, “they’re gonna make me leave in a bit alright? But when you are doing better, we should go have a catch up.” She told him quietly.

She nodded and smiled at him, glancing over at the door though when it opened and Will stepped through the door with maya holding his hand, looking much more like himself now and she shook her head at his timing of surprising his wife.

Noah gave a small nod and kept her hand in his "Can....can you tell Nick to stay? I don't...I don't want Laura here anymore." He said quietly not wanting to let her go at all at this point.

Max perked up immediately when she saw Will and burst into tears "Oh my....oh come here, come meet him." She said through her tears letting Will hold him when he sat beside her "Look at him, looks just like you."

She nodded and gently pulled her hand away “Yeah I can do that. Listen…. Be sensible. Let them help you get better. And we will talk when you are back okay?” She promised.

He grinned as he sat next to her, kissing her cheek over and over. “I am so sorry. But I am so proud of you.” He told her quietly, looking down to their son. “Hey there. Oh hey” he smiled, crying happily. “Oh it’s so good to meet you little man.” He cooed, cradling him close. “You got the best momma in the world already I hope you know that.” He murmured, reaching for maya to come closer. “Hey, come see your baby brother.” He coaxed.

Noah nodded and took a deep breath "Could.....could I write you? You don't have to respond....but I know they sometimes let you write letters." He said quietly frowning a bit when he heard Laura's voice outside the door.

Max smiled widely as Maya scrambled onto the bed and looked at the baby with wide eyes "Thats your baby brother, his name is Will." She said quietly while rubbing her back "Do you want to hold him?" She asked while she watched as Maya gently poked his hand a bit "Its okay honey, you just gotta be gentle."

She frowned but nodded. “Yeah… yeah you can do that alright? Noah I gotta go, I got like ten animals at home that need my attention and Josh can’t be there much longer cause he’s got work okay? I know things didn’t work for us but I do want you to get better alright? Nick is gonna keep me updated.” She assured him, giving his hand one more squeeze before getting up and leaving. She knew if she stayed or had hugged him her resolve would have melted, brushing past Laura on the way out the room.

Will helped to get her set up so she could hold the baby, not saying much but just focusing on being as present as he could for the whole visit until it was time for maya to go, stepping over to max and kissing her gently. “I love you. I will be back first thing in the morning if I can.” He promised, feeling awful about not being able to be there as much as with Maya but also not about to make it about himself at the minute.

Laura frowned deeply when she saw Carmen leaving the room "Why are you still here? He doesn't need you." She spat at her before going to go inside scoffing when she heard Nick tell her to not go in.

Max gave a small nod and kissed him lovingly before he left "My mom is gonna come spend the first few days with us. Just to help with the baby and Maya." She said softly before saying goodbye to Maya as well.

He nodded in agreement and lifted up Maya when she asked with a little bit of a struggle but carried her out carefully to go meet his Mom out in the car park, getting Maya buckled in and got in the front seat, rubbing at his face a little. "It feels like shit that I can't watch my own kid on my own." He muttered, glancing back to see Maya was already falling asleep.

Carmen shook her head, finally turning back to face her when she was made to leave the room, "No. I'm not gonna take it from you anymore. I am not trying to steal him from you, I'm not looking to get back together with him. Ever. Get that through your head first of all. Second, grow the fuck up and stop sending me weird shit. I don't know you. Finally, he called me. He called me last night when this was happening. That is why I'm here. Because unlike someone else, when someone I care about, whether we are together or not, is in a crisis, I don't just ignore it. Goodbye Laura. I'm done with any communication with you." She snapped at her, not realising Noah was listening to them even beyond the mostly closed door

Maria gave a heavy sigh and nodded as she rubbed his back gently "I know honey, but its just a bump in the road. You'll do okay as long as you keep hope and do everything the doctors tell you." She said softly before starting to take them home.

Noah frowned deeply as he heard Carmen outside the door "Nick.... get her in here....I need to....I need to end things.." he said quietly as he started to fall asleep "I need to...she has to...go...." he murmured before fulling falling asleep.

He sighed quietly and nodded, rubbing at his face a little, trying to keep positive about it all but it was a nervous thing in the back of his mind. Three months passed in relative peace and quiet with settling into having the two kids and Will had been doing a lot better the past month, finally feeling backto some sense of normalcy with everything. He got back into the house from the back yard with Maya who was wrapped up in a towel, shivering a little but he was busy warming her up with the towel and his own warmth, wandering into the living room where Max was feeding baby Will, "Say Mommy I love my new paddling pool." He smiled.

Carmen hadn't had any contact with Noah since, accepting the letters that he was sending her but not having the courage to read them, worried that she would be pulled in with words all over again like he always had. She was having a spring clean day and had all the dogs out in the back yard where she could keep an eye on them but at the same time she had space to clean and tidy, Void her ever present shadow while she did so. Josh had been living with her since shortly after her and Noah had split, finally old enough to get out of the family home but without the financial means to do so she had bought him a plane ticket and they'd been reconnecting for the past several months now. For once though she had the house to herself

Max smiled widely at the two of them as they came into the house "Oh yeah? We'll have to take your brother in it later." She said sweetly before moving to sit down. She was exhausted at the moment. Have two kids was no joke, and Will's health still weighed heavy in the back of the her mind. She was thankful he was okay for now, but she was scared he'd fall back again.

Noah bit his lip hard as he sat outside of his house staring at her number in his phone. He's been in an institution for the past three months working harder than ever to get himself better. He wanted Carmen back, even if it meant only as a friend, he wanted her in his life. He finally pressed dial hoping she would answer the call from him.

He smiled some and finished drying her off, getting her changed into clothes again, finally sitting down with Max and yawning, "When is your Mom coming over?" He asked her. He had an appointment later that he had asked her to be at, just nervous about it and not wanting to go alone.

The ringtone had paused her music and she set the cleaning stuff down to go see who it was, taking a deep breath but finally answering "Hey. I thought I heard Nick was picking you up this week." She sighed a little "How you doing?" she asked him, looking down at the scar that ran across her left hand on both sides
