Fantasy AWOP [Lore] [FI]

The Aether is a great kingdom in the skies, high above even the highest of clouds, great and mighty. Its walls are made of marble and of granite, and its paths of the purest of stones. At night it is lit by blue flames that cast a great light like that of day. Built out of a great mountain in the Aether is the grand castle of the rulers, and below it the dungeons. It is inhabited by angels, with very little to no trace of demons before them.

The Middle Realm is vast and great, with many mountains and rivers and seas. There are forests and deserts and many kingdoms and towns there of many races. The races that reside in the realm are giants, sirens, mermaids, centaurs, dwarves, satyrs, dragons, and men.

The Underworld is a dark realm and a cavernous one. It is carved deep into the earth, and its buildings are of red and black rock, carved from the ground. There are small streams of lava and many chasms and bridges. The Underworld is inhabited by demons and dragons.

The Great Caves are a series of great connected tunnels that snake through the mountains and the earth, and surprisingly do not cross paths with the Underworld. These tunnels are dark and wide with high ceilings and are considered to be extremely dangerous. They were first uncovered by miners seeking precious metals and gems, and these caves are abundant with them, but they are also inhabited by vampires and great spiders.

The Alterwood Forest is a vast and dark forest infested with the most horrible of beings. In the grand forest live Alterwood bats and many great spiders and dark Satyrs and centaurs; for even if they are not evil, they are dark, as well as the dragons. There have been sightings of Necromancers and their doing in these forests, as well as Pipers and Druids. It serves as a home for Black Wolves; great dark wolves with bloody red eyes seeking prey at all times.

Giants- The kings of the Middle Realm, giants are a race of giant humanoids. They tower over every other creature, standing at an average of about 40-50 feet. Giants live in many places, such as the mountains or the seas, and they are the craftsmen of the world. All giants have one shared magical ability, and that is to breathe underwater. Some giants have other magical abilities as well.

Centaurs- Centaurs are taller than men. They are like horses from the waist and below, and men above it. Centaurs live in tribes or clans in various parts of the world. They have a natural fighting skill with the bow and arrow, but many of them prefer to use swords, axes, hammers, and maces among many other weapons.

Mermaids- The maidens of the sea, they're like women with a fish tail instead of legs. Mermaids are benign, and they live in kingdoms below the sea alongside many giants. Mermaids have very little to no magic. The males are called Mermen, and they use spears, pikes, and tridents to hunt for food and to defend themselves. When out of the water, mermaids are rendered quite harmless.

Sirens- Similar to mermaids, sirens are underwater maidens. However, unlike mermaids, their tails are more serpentine and they are much more aggressive. When above water, sirens are not helpless like mermaids; however, their form melts away to reveal one of what looks like a giant bird crossed with a woman, making them much more dangerous than their friendly counterparts. Sirens don't often use many weapons, but rather rely on their agility and their claws and sharp teeth. Many call them harpies as well. There are no male sirens.

Dwarves- The children of giants, dwarves are, quite ironically, quite short. They are bulky and grow long beards and hair. Dwarves live in the mountains in small communities, of which a few exist. They are the miners of the land and craftsmen, rivalled only by the giants. However, their small size allows them to make smaller weapons that the giants could not, like knives and daggers among several others. Dwarves have very little to no magical abilities.

Satyrs- Also known as the people of the forest, satyrs are like men with the legs of a goat, and many of them have horns as well. They usually wear very little clothing, if any at all; their private parts are hidden by their fur, only appearing during mating. Satyrs rely on their druid magic for defence, and some use knives, daggers, and smaller axes as well. While there are no female satyrs, they mate only with the dryads, who are tree spirits that seldom appear, as they're usually dormant in the form of trees that rarely awake to mate with the satyrs.

Vampires- Vampires inhabit the Great Tunnels. They are like women crossed with bats. They feed on meat and blood, and their agility and sharp teeth make them quite dangerous and difficult to defend against. Vampires cannot see well in sunlight, and that makes them quite weak in the open. Even though they all resemble women, some of them are men, identified by their long, lion-like manes, while the females have smoother hair.

Great Spiders- Great spiders are giant spiders whose size ranges from that of a newborn goat to that of a large grizzly bear. They inhabit dark areas like dark forests, deep caves, and, of course, the Great Tunnels. Many of these great spiders have been tamed by the demons of the Underworld.

Alterwood Bats- Also known as great bats, Alterwood bats are giant bats that live in the forest of Alterwood. They are nocturnal and no larger than the size of a horse, and they feed upon small animals, livestock, and, should they not find food for long enough, carrion. They reside in the caves found in the dark forest of Alterwood, of which they are territorial.

Angels- The current rulers of the Aether, angels are like humans in appearance. Their skin is light and their wings are white and feathery. Angels use many types of weapons, but mainly swords and pikes. Many of them have very strong magic, though most of them have none at all. Gabriel is the king of the angels.

Demons- The former rulers of the Aether and the current rulers of the Underworld, demons are quite diverse in appearance. Some of them look like humans with darker or redder skin, others resembling more unworldly beings. Many of them bear horns or other inhuman features, though the more completely inhuman ones are the more powerful demons. Demons are considered evil by many, although that's far from the truth, with the exception of several. Most demons have stumps on their backs where their wings would've been had they not been bounding with chains and ropes and locked in a grand chamber in the Aether.

Dragons- Great in size and magnificence, dragons reside in mountains and caves as well as the Underworld. They are the most diverse of beings, except for, perhaps, demons. They're scaly and large, most of them breathe fire, though some of them breathe other elements--namely lightning and cold , and a few don't breathe any elements at all. While most dragons eat meat, many of them are herbivores, and some eat fish. Dragons could be friendly or aggressive depending on many things, such as the time, the diet, and the dragon itself.

Deep in the world, beneath the oceans and the earth, lies a grand pool of magic; a lake filled with pure magic, wispy silver and smoke-like in appearance like long threads of hair lighter than air, flowing smoothly in rings. From the Grand Fountain, as many called it, for it is called by another name in the ancient tongues, run many small streams that most meet beneath places in the earth where magic is strong.

When magic is used; when a spell or a curse is cast, one draws power from the Sodakrini or the Grand Fountain. Many creatures are able to draw nearly limitless power from it, but many cannot, such as humans, who seldom can cast magic from the power of the Sodakrini.

If a being draws too much power than he could sustain, then his body would perish from the inside, leaving very little to no remnants behind as the magic destroys it and escapes back into the Fountain. However, should one summon power that his body is able to sustain, and should he be experienced enough, the magic will literally course through his body and he shall control it as he wills.

There are many other types of magic as well, for there is dark magic and there is elemental magic and physical magic, and three other types. Dark magic is the control of darkness and mist and moonlight and stars, and the casting of curses and manipulation of necromancy. Most dark magicians are called Necromancers, and many of them are Dwarves or Men.

Elemental magic is the manipulation of all the elements of nature, such as trees or water. It is, perhaps, the most well-known type of magic. Elementalists usually specialise in one specific branch of elemental magic, for it is not easy to be fluent in all types of elemental magic. The most common are Druids, who manipulate the forests and speak to animals, and many of them are Satyrs and Men. There are Mariners as well, which work with the seas and all that live within, and many of them were once men, but now are few, and the most known of them is the giant Polybotes, a king of the seas.

Physical magic is a type of magic that consists of turning the nearly-abstract magic of the Sodakrini into physical objects, such as shields or weapons. Physical magic also allows for telekinesis, the ability to move objects without coming in contact with them, and the power to speak with others through thought, or even manipulate others' minds. Some of the more experienced physical magicians, known as Sorcerors, can change their form as well, or manipulate their physical appearance in the eyes of others so as to appear as something which they are not. Another trait of Sorcerors is that they can open portals, mostly small and very temporary, but sometimes they are more lasting or larger.

The other three types are Demonic magic, Angelic magic, and what many call Siren magic.

Demonic magic is the magic that is natural to all demons and, while depending greatly on it, does not fully rely upon the Sodakrini to exist. Demonic magic allows for control over many types of magic without having to learn them, though many demons are weak in this field and are inexperienced.

Light magic, also known as Angelic magic, is the one which allows the manipulation of light in such a way similar to Physical Magic, for it allows for one to create physical objects from light or to simply create weak or powerful lights to light the dark roads before one or to temper with one's enemies' eyes, allowing for an escape. Light magic is natural to most angels like Demonic magic is to demons, but a few residents of the Middle Realm and even the Underworld have learned to use it. Like Demonic magic, it does not fully rely on the Sodakrini to exist, but it relies on it less, making it more powerful than Demonic magic in locations of weaker magic.

Siren magic, or Voice Magic as many call it, is the type of magic which relies upon channelling magic into sounds like music and words and is most commonly used by sirens in their attempts to lure in seafarers, or mermaids in their healing songs. Voice magic is very commonly used by Satyrs as well with their music pipes and by Pipers in their flutes and strings. Siren Magic is mostly natural or the cause of an instrument being infused with some magic, meaning it doesn't rely at all on the Sodakrini to exist or be powerful.

Order Of The Archangels

After the first angel uprising against the mighty demon king Lucifer, It was decided that the angels needed a force to protect the throne. If not, then the demons would easily take it back in time. Seven warriors were chosen among the masses of the angelic legions. Yeshua, the first angel, then split his power evenly between the seven warriors, giving them each titles based on their respective areas of practice. That is when the Order Of The Archangels was formed, with their sole purpose to protect the throne and defend the Aether.

Archangels are a speacialized type of angel. The status and power can be earned through an Archangel bestowing their power and title to another, but most are born into the position, with their fathers being respective Archangels. There can only be seven Archangels at a time, and each carry the roles and titles of the Archangels before them. The titles include

1. Archangel of War

Is defender of the Aether and is the most powerful angel warrior. Is commander of Aethers holy angelic legions

2. Archangel of Magic

7. Archangel of Death

Bringer of death to all mortals. Some confuse him with a demon. Keeper of the portal to the afterlife

Every Archangel varies in power, with the most powerful Archangel taking the Aether's throne. The second most powerful Archangel is the right hand of the king.

Caerians

During the rule of the fourth king of the Aether, Raphael, a band of demons led by Furlohn left the Aether seeking more power due to the king's oppression of demons, searching for the Grand Fountain, and they looked for many years, wandering on the earth until at last, they came to an empty mountainous region devoid of sentient life; only plants and a few animals like rabbits and thrushes, and in it was a well of magic, and there they settled down and built their kingdom in the mountains, erecting high towers and mining houses into the caves and walls of the mountains. As years passed, those demons lost many of their demonic attributes and they became more human in appearance with reptilian eyes and some with horns, yet they also became skilled at magic and became the Sorcerors of the world, living in the land which they now call Caer, ruled over by their king Bodun, a descendant of Furlohn the Traveler.

Caerian culture is divided into many ranks; there's the Supreme, followed by the Right Hand, then the Archmage, Prodigy, Apprentice, and common folk. The Supreme is the king of the Caerians, wearing the crown of glass and gems. The Right Hand is his advisor and vice. The Archmage is equivalent of the general and the highest of teachers and non-royal magicians. The Archmage is talented at most types of magic, especially Sorcery. The Prodigies are graduated apprentices of the Archmage and other Prodigies; they are teachers and talented magicians. Apprentices are the students of Prodigies; the Peers are the Archmage's apprentices. The common folk, while able to use magic, are less talented and powerful magicians, and mostly work as farmers or merchants.

The Supreme is the king of the land of Caer. He lives in a great wooden palace called the Palatium. He sits on a grand throne carved from stone and wears a sleek, glittering crown made from hard glass, as well as a ring of the same material, and a jade pendant with the royal seal on it.

The Right Hand is the Supreme's vice and right hand. Seated on a smaller, wooden throne beside the Supreme's, he wears a golden pendant with the royal seal on it. If the Supreme dies or is killed suddenly, the Right Hand becomes the new Supreme, should there be no heir.

The Archmage is the most powerful Sorceror in the lands. His knowledge of magic is quite extensive, as he draws intellect and life from the Grand Fountain itself, an art known by very few, granting him a longer life than most. He lives in the Sacrarium and teaches in it; the Sacrarium is a great school carved into the mountain, with an exterior of wood and stone; it contains vast libraries and collections, as well as dorms for sleeping, and a vast chamber for the Archmage to live in, allowing him to view the Caer. Prodigies train their Apprentices there, and the Archmage teaches the Peers in special grounds in the Sacrarium more advanced and powerful magic. The Archmage excels at all sorts of magic, especially Sorcery, but many Archmages are less talented in a branch or two. The Archmage wears a jade ring on one of his fingers.

Prodigies are the warriors, teachers, and guardians of the Caer. Once taught by the Archmage or other Prodigies, they became talented at magic, mostly Sorcery, and teach Apprentices. They fight with magic and protect their land; many of them have become travellers or teachers, but they are forbidden to teach outside of the Caer; they can, however, teach outsiders within the Sacrarium, or teach outside the Caer with the Archmage's permission. They wear a golden pendant with the Sacrarium stamp on it.

Peers are the students of the Archmage who saw talent within them. There are very few of them, and they are more powerful than others and their powers are more diverse. Peers are among the few who use artefacts and Wind Cloaks, alongside the Archmage and Prodigies. Peers graduate to become Masters, who are similar to Prodigies, and are identified by their pendants, which are similar to those of Prodigies, only made of sapphire. As Peers, they wear a sapphire ring with the same stamp, which they get to keep.

Apprentices are the students of Prodigies; the sons of the middle-class folk and the upper-class folk. While talented at magic, they are not quite as powerful as Peers, and they graduate to become Prodigies. Apprentices cannot use Wind Cloaks, but can use artefacts later in their training. They are identified by their obsidian ring, which they keep after becoming Prodigies.

OOC - The Archmage is the only taken position.

Magical Artefacts

Wands:
The wand is a tool crafted by the ancient folk to help channel their magic. They are difficult to make, and the art was lost, making the only remaining wands in the possession of the Archmage of the Caer and the Archangel of Magic. In appearance, wands are sleek, and most are wooden, although some of them may be carved of bone as well. Wands have become obsolete with the appearance of other tools, such as the staff.

Staffs:
The staff is debatably the most important magical tool, for it was invented by the ancient folk, but had never become obsolete, only used much less. Staffs differ vastly in appearance, and the art of making them was lost, but a few magicians and craftsmen have learned to make them with their own methods; staffs are most commonly used by Druids and Necromancers.

Wind Cloak:
The wind cloak is a garment created by the ancient folk that once lived in the Caer. They died ages before the Caerians arrived there, but had left the art of crafting these artefacts behind. The Caerians, as they settled, learned the methods, and they farmed Wind Weavers, and made better wind cloaks; however, not many can use them, for they are only used by Peers, some Prodigies, and the Archmage himself.

There are many ancient artefacts as well, existing in the forms of pendants, shields, or other objects, and each has its different powers; a lot of these artefacts are present in the Sacrarium or in Archangel Mihr's collection.

Mystic Magic is a branch of Dark magic. Magicians who use it tap into the power of the stars, mist, and other cosmic powers. It is very uncommon among the magicians of the Middle Realm. Mystic Arts grant one many abilities, the most useful being to banish objects into a pocket dimension many choose to call the Personal Void, and summon those items once again from it. Mystic Magic also allows for the summoning of starlight and moonlight, mist, shadows and darkness, and the manipulation of gravity. More powerful Mystic Artists can even summon stars to aid them in battle like meteors. Mystic Magic is most commonly associated with Physical Magic, as it enhances it.

Voodoo Magic is the second branch of Dark Magic. Magicians who make use of Voodoo, called Houngans, rely on the channelling of spirits into objects and brewing poisons. Houngans make idols and other objects infused with magic, such as dreamcatchers. Houngans are most common in the south, and they are constantly hunting animals, as they need their organs for their rituals and curses, as well as herbs and many other objects.

Necromancy is the third and best-known branch of Dark Magic. Necromancers work with the dead, usually reanimating them and making them into slaves or workers. Necromancers also have the ability, like Houngans, to summon ghosts and call on spirits from the realm of the dead, albeit in a better manner. In many countries, Necromancy is banned.
