❝ there was a time - a time not long ago - when brother stood before brother - just as i stand here today - between them: a line. and those who had drawn it were long forgotten. we are on either side said brother to brother we are not the same. they were scared, you see, of those different from them and blood was shed. and that was the way it was, for a long, long time. until a warrior by the name of koano - my grandfather - stood on one line and said foolish men; do you not see that which is before you? do you not see the blood you spill is no different from each other? and then, the line between us was no longer there. it is important, my brothers and sisters, that we remember this time, this time that is still living in those around us. as we take the time to remember this day, almost five decades ago so that never again will our blood be shed! ❞ — koda, son of konan on the forty-ninth anniversary of the armistice of the dark times.

timeline: the "great warrior" koano (a powerful waterbender, and bloodbender) calls a ceasefire to the terrible war of nations (the dark times). he is thirty-two, and this is 001. in the early year of 02, he manipulates the political leaders of each nation into signing a peace treaty. many denounce the avatar, who had presumably abandoned them at this time and worship him. he becomes a leader. he is an international hero. when he is fifty-seven, in the year 025 he passes away.

koanoak & namu, his sons. namu is four in the year 001, while koanoak is born in the year 003. namu denounces the ways of his father (bloodbending), while koanoak loves it. namu claims he is a non-bender, and spreads anti-bending propaganda. he has one son, konan, who is born when he is twenty-nine, in the year 026. he is assassinated by a bender when his son is six years old, in the year 032. konan is taken under koanoak.

konan claims to be a non-bender, too (he is not). he has three children, his first when he is twenty in the year 046, a daughter. his second when he is twenty-two, born in 048, and the third in 049.

koda gives this speech when he is seventeen, in the year 066.

the avatar is killed, beginning the war of nations. the next avatar is born within the year. people believed that once the new avatar became old enough, they would save them from this war. they waited, and waited, and waited. the avatar had abandoned them. koano is born ten years after the war starts. he hates the avatar for not showing up. he is not a good man. the war lasts for forty-two years. "THE AVATAR ABANDONED US"

konan says the avatar is a myth. it has been 108 years since the last avatar had died.

the year is 0066, and life in the rénmín cosmocracy is strong. the people's land, is what it is called, after the borders were dissolved in the year 0001 by the great warrior koano.

the dark times left the world in a state less advanced then it had been, technology forgotten. we are back to equal times. each child is born equal. the rénmín is lead by those who keep the world the way it should be.
