❝ Avatar: City of Secrets ❞
introduction.

When the Hundred Year War came to an end seventy years ago, Avatar Nozomi and Firelord Kuroiro worked together to begin healing and rebalancing the world. One of their greatest achievements was converting the Fire Nation colonies abroad into what they are today--Republic City, a place that stands for opportunity, progress, and new beginnings. And although Avatar Nozomi's time in the world has come to and end, it is only the beginning for her successor--Avatar Yira. Raised at the Western Air Temple, the young woman lived an otherwise peaceful and happy life for her first sixteen years, until it was recently discovered that she is the Avatar. Now, she's arrived in Republic City to continue her training, a controversial decision in some circles, but one that has come to pass nonetheless. Settling into her new city life, Yira is learning to adapt and interact with her peers.
But in the city's underbelly, danger lurks. Recently, benders have been mysteriously disappearing in the dead of night. And the latest in the long strong of victims, and the most famous, is the much beloved Earthbender of Pro-Bending team Harbor Town Hog Monkeys, Duyi. As the mystery deepens, it will be up to Team Avatar to save Republic City.

premise.

Welcome! This an AU Avatar thread taking place during the Republic City era, featuring all original characters and new plots! The thread was proceeded by another AU game going through the 100 Year War, so I thought it would be fun to play out this next step in time! This thread follows the new Avatar, Yira, on her journey in Republic City to master the three remaining elements. However, only a short while after she's been there, the city is rocked by mysterious disappearances, including a beloved Pro-Bending player! There are also hints of mysterious organizations moving in the underworld, and, of course, some Equalist drama. The characters involved will have to help the Avatar solve the mystery of the missing benders, defeat the evil organizations, and restore peace to Republic City.

rules.

RULE. These are some general things. All RPN rules apply. This is also a semi-advanced--advanced thread leaning towards advanced, so please use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and each post should be at least two paragraphs. I will have the ultimate say on thing in this thread as the GM. You're welcome to use a CS of your choosing to sign-up, just make sure it includes all the information I've outlined!

RULE. These rules relate to characters. Special bending types, like bloodbending, metalbending, etc., will have a limit to how many characters can have them, and I will determine this cap depending on each special bending type. Characters can be benders or non-benders, and any element is available. In this game, the Air Nomads were not wiped out during the Hundred Year War, so airbending is perfectly acceptable to use. Each player may currently have a maximum of four characters. The main character rule is just to keep them within the parameters of the universe!

RULE. This section isn't so much rules, just general thing. I have a plot planned out, but I'm perefectly open to adding in suggestions as well as personal character arcs for each character involved, so please let me know if you want to do anything like that or have any suggestions for the story.

dramatis personae.

ROLE. The main group will be composed of the Team Avatar! Friends or soon to be friends of Yira will be the main characters in this story, so I would recommend the bulk of sign-ups fall into this role. These characters can be pretty much anyone so long as they comply with the rules outlined for characters above!

ROLE. We will also have some city officials involved, as well as the mentors to the Avatar, members of the White Lotus, guards, those types of things! Let me know especially if you want to play a council member or one of the Avatar's bending teachers--water, earth, and fire are especially necessary, but air is fine too. Just be mindful that she's almost completely mastered air, so that would be a person that's be training her for a while. Council members can have varying degrees of involvement. The characters in this category will mostly be adults.

ROLE. At some point, we will be needing some villain characters. I'll likely address this when they come up unless someone wants to play one for sure, in which case, please DM me so we can discuss the details and I can share some of the bad guy plots with you!

Specialization: Ven is a fire bender who can also electricity/lighting bend and has her own style of electricity bending that allows her to control the electric impulses in a persons body. For long periods of control she needs to make physical contact first, for shorter control she can make contact through the use of striking them with a ranged lighting attack. This control over the electric impulses allows her to cause intense and torturous pain as well as paralysis and can make them unable to move. She can also conduct and redirect electricity.

Name: Kyosuke Baomin
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual Heteroromantic
Home Nation: Earth Kingdom
***
Bender
Specialization: Earthbender, Seismic Sense
Affiliations: Pro-Bending League, Team, Republic City Police, Baomin Family, Team Avatar

Character Trivia:
  • Kyosuke is an energetic, upbeat, positive person! No matter how hard things get, he seems to have boundless amounts of optimism! He acts almost like a ray of sunshine for his friends, too, managing to raise their spirits in even the direst of times. The vital spirit he has is nearly unbreakable!
  • The only thing that seems to get him down is when he messes up a good play during a match, and even then, he tends to be overdramatic and extra about the whole thing, rather than actually sad. However, any hits to his close relationships could upset him for real, depending on the circumstance.
  • Despite often acting like he has only one braincell, he’s actually quite clever. He’s able to come up with many interesting strategies in battle, and plans of action depending on any situation. In fact, he’s always thinking about what’s going on around him, and has a unique ability to adapt to things quickly that earthbenders usually lack.
  • Doesn’t worry about his family too much since they’re all so powerful on their own, but cares a lot about his team and thinks about their safety often—almost since he’s even closer to them than his immediate family.
  • He’s extremely loyal and would never betray a comrade. Wouldn’t want to leave anyone behind, either, even if the situation was dire or if his own safety and well-being depended on doing so. He usually thinks much more about others than he does himself.
  • He has founded two Pro-Bending Teams, the now disbanded South Side Shirshus, as well as his current and much more famous team, the Tu Zin Tigerdillos.
  • Kyosuke likes to explore Republic City and see what’s happening. Sometimes he’ll even pester his older sister, Liling, to tell him juicy details about police cases because he’s nosey. She almost always refuses though, which is probably for the best.
  • Although he hasn’t realized it yet (nor has anyone else), he has the most advanced ability with his seismic sense, being second only to his grandmother. That means he has a better range, can detect movements and minute traces more easily, and can detect hidden or underground things with more ease.
  • He owns a car which technically belongs to his family, but he never gets around to using it since it’s always in storage when he actually needs it, and when he’s rushing into situations, he never has time to stop and get it.
  • Kyosuke is easily the loudest member of his team since Toru and Akashi are much quieter, so he usually ends up doing most of the talking for the group when they’re first starting to interact with someone new.
  • He thinks that the ring-tailed lemurs the Air Nomads keep as pets are so, so cute, and he really wants to get one of his own, but he doesn’t know how to go about taming one.
  • Always wants to treat the team to food after a match, even if they lose. Part of it is mostly just because he loves to eat so much, but the other part is that he wants them both to always eat well.
  • Since he loves food, he’s interested in learning to cook and prepare his own, but he hasn’t had much success so far. It’s mostly because he’s busy and hasn’t practiced a lot, but there’s been a few almost-kitchen-fires due to his carelessness as a chef, too.
  • He, Akashi, and Toru all live together.
  • Kyosuke has a tendency to just want to help like the sweet bean he is, so he takes to helping elderly people with their chores, giving loose change to orphan children, or pointing lost tourists in the right direction. This is exactly how he first met Yira.
  • He knows a few simple magic tricks/sleight-of-hand things and he thinks they’re to coolest thing in the world. He’s always trying to impress people with them, but most usually aren’t.
  • Nothing ever deters him from his course of action. He’s extremely tenacious, so no matter how many times he gets knocked down, he just gets up and goes at it again until he finally succeeds at what he’s doing.
  • Sometimes he does have a stubborn streak, and this has caused arguments between himself and others before. He tends to fixate on something and make up his mind one way, and then he’ll almost never change it. The good news is that he can’t stand seeing people he cares about upset at all, so no matter how serious he was before, he’ll always crack down and apologize first, trying to see if they can come to a compromise instead.
  • He’s the type of friend that will carry you as far as he has to when you say you can’t go one more step.
History: Kyosuke is the grandson of the legendary Linfei Baomin, who was Avatar Nozomi’s Earthbending teacher and famously helped her end the 100 Year War. The youngest of three, he has two older sisters, and they were all close as children and remained so as they grew older. When he was a boy, Linfei was around often, and Kyosuke has fond and warm memories of her telling him all about her adventures and the stories she lived. He trained in traditional style Earthbending and his grandmother’s unique abilities as well alongside his sisters, learning from his elder family members and many great masters from around the Earth Kingdom. Despite intensive practice and giving it his all, he has yet to be able to manifest any Metalbending, unlike everyone else in his family. Unbeknownst to even him, though, his seismic sense is the most advanced of anyone’s besides his grandmother.
As the chief of Republic City’s police force, his mother was often busy, so he was mostly raised and managed by his sisters. They usually roamed the city with pocket money for candy, or played games in the park. As they got older, everyone began to go in their respective directions. Kyosuke had taken a liking to the growing sport, Pro-Bending, and wanted to try it out, thinking it seemed like fun. But, he had trouble finding people to team up with. One day, while exploring around the city, he met Akashi for the first time. After helping him out of a pinch he was in against the Agni Kais, Kyosuke managed to worm his way into Akashi’s heart. They became friends, and Kyosuke eventually managed to convince Akashi to join his Pro-Bending Team.
After haranguing some Waterbenders fresh off the boat, Kyosuke found them a third teammate and his first Probendig Team, The South Side Shirshus, was born! Unfortunately, the team cohesion wasn’t the best, and even though Akashi and Kyosuke worked together great, their third member just didn’t fit with them. They started a sort of revolving door of Waterbenders with none of them last more than one match. Until, eventually, the duo stumbled onto Toru. Spotting him practicing his abilities, they both instantly thought he was awesome, and Kyosuke ran in right away to recruit him. Toru rejected the offer multiple times, but Kyosuke is almost never deterred. He kept asking Toru, and over the course of bothering him, they got to know each other. The trio got into a bind and had to help each other out with another gang situation, and after that, Toru finally agreed to join their team. The new Probending team, The Tu Zin Tigerdillos, was established! The three boys then began a break-out career in the sport, becoming well-known over the next three years for their team cohesion and unique formation. And out of the ring, they became best friends, too.
Around two months ago, Kyosuke was out to pick up some take-out for the team when he found an Air Nomad girl new to the city and hopelessly lost. Being his friendly self, he approached her and offered to help her find her way, discovering her name was Yira. The two hit it off and after walking her to the docks, Kyosuke invited her to one of his Probending matches. She became really interested in the sport, and the team recruited her to be their new manager. The team began to get to know her, and then one day, while they were out to lunch and a gang made trouble, they discovered their new manager was actually the Avatar. Right away, Kyosuke made a promise to be her friend and help her out anyway he could. With that, he became one of the three original members of Team Avatar.

Character Trivia:
  • Akashi is a quiet person, and often doesn’t speak right away because he’s observing and absorbing the situation around him. He tends to keep his thoughts to himself unless he knows a person extremely well and shows very little open emotion the majority of the time.
  • He is a highly perceptive individual and prides himself on being a good character study of others. His gaze seems to pierce right through people and know when they’re trying to hide something. Even that aside, he almost always notices nonverbal cues and minute gestures others might miss.
  • Since he’s quiet, many people might interpret him as cold; but he’s actually a very warm person. He has a caring heart and looks after his loved ones in earnest. Although he might hide this heart under dry sarcasm and casual exasperation, those truly close to him know he’d give them his last scrap of food if they needed it.
  • He does just fine in large social situations, even if he doesn’t like to be in them very much. Being actually quite a good speaker, coupled with his observation skills, means that Akashi can carry a conversation with a stranger just fine if the necessity arises.
  • He is a good person to have in a crisis situation since he is able to keep his own emotions under control and maintain a level head. Known to be clever, he also makes for a good problem solver, so he’s all around just someone you’d want on your side when it counts.
  • Akashi is the firebender for the Pro-Bending team, the Tu Zin Tigerdillos. He makes for a good player because he's always actively thinking about his next move, and because he also hates to lose.
  • He was (and still is) considered as a bending prodigy from a young age, having particularly powerful fire and even able to master lightning when he was only a child. There was a time when he resented bending, but he’s come to accept that firebending is a huge part of his identity, and that he truly loves his ability to use it.
  • The hobbies he has are more traditional, such as reading and calligraphy. He writes his own poetry as well, but he is too insecure to share it with anyone else, even Kyosuke and Toru.
  • He doesn’t trust people very easily. Although it’s easy for him to be polite and cordial, he rarely shares details about himself unless he knows the person well, and he takes a long time to warm up to someone.
  • Feeds stray cats he finds when he’s out and about around the city. Used to share his food with them even when he was homeless himself.
  • Technically, he left the Ahni Kais and no longer does work for them, but he didn’t do so on negative terms, so he still knows a lot of people in the gang, even though he may want nothing to do with them anymore.
  • He, Toru, and Kyosuke all live together.
  • Akashi is an unforgiving person if he feels like someone has wronged him. Even if it was a mistake, or it was someone he used to care about, he almost never accepts apologies and rarely gives people second chances if they screw up even once.
  • He hasn’t used his lightning abilities since he was a child, and absolutely refuses to do so now, even against his enemies.
  • The only money he has it what he’s made from their Pro-Bending matches. Even though he objected at first, he almost always lets Kyosuke pay for his meals because of that. He saves most of his money, and only spends it on absolute necessities.
  • Looks down on people who look down on others.
History:
Born in the Fire Nation, Akashi had two loving, doting parents. They lived in and around the capital city, but traveled often, and he has fond, happy memories of summers on Ember Island and such. From a young age, it was discovered that he was a firebending prodigy, a surprising fact since both of his parents were non-benders. He was given only the best instruction from some of the very best masters in the nation, and was even able to develop and master skills over lightning when he was still very young. His parents were always extremely proud of him.
However, there came a day that changed Akashi’s life forever. One night, a firebender broke into their family home. It was a robbery gone south, and Akashi’s parents were killed by the firebender’s lightning abilities. The young boy, only ten, was traumatized by the event. From that day forward, he swore he’d never use his own lightning abilities again. In fact, he didn’t even want to be a firebender anymore. In the wake of the tragedy, he was taken in by local officials while they tried to determine what to do with the boy, but before they could work anything concrete out, Akashi vanished. Distraught and upset, he ran away from his home, not sure where to go at first but knowing he didn’t want to be an orphan. He ended up boarding a boat to Republic City after seeing an advertisement that people could succeed and live good lives there.
When he arrived in the city, he wound up on the streets, struggling to survive and find money. He was eventually taken in by the Agni Kai Triad. Originally, they had him do mostly book or guard work, but when he discovered that the Agni Kais used their power to extort and threaten people, he wanted out right away. He got caught up in some trouble with a rival gang, the Triple Threat Triads, but a guy called Kyosuke helped him out. Talking and hanging around him, Kyosuke helped Akashi realize that bending could be an amazing gift, that fire wasn’t inherently bad. Because of Kyosuke, and this sport called Probending, Akashi began to remember something he’d forgotten; that he loved being a bender, and that it was part of who he was.
Akashi joined up with Koysuke for his Probending team and came to love the sport. He only wished they’d managed to find a better Waterbender. Eventually, when they met up with Toru, Akashi couldn’t understand Kyosuke’s borderline obsession with recruiting the guy. When Toru finally joined, they did have a bit of conflict first, but they quickly moved through it, coming to understand one another’s personalities and becoming really good friends. Akashi began to enjoy Probending even more once they started to actually pick up momentum.
When Kyosuke somehow manage to stumble into the Avatar two months ago, Akashi remembered how he wanted to use his bending for good, and also agreed to help the Avatar, if she needed to learn firebending, or if she needed back-up to protect the world—however he could help. With that, Akashi become one of the three original members of Team Avatar.

Specialization: Waterbender, Healing Abilities
Affiliations: Probending League, Team, Republic City Council, Northern Water Tribe, Foggy Swamp Tribe, Team Avatar

Character Trivia:
  • Toru is an aloof and cold type of person. Although not unfriendly, he prefers to keep to himself and his close-knit social circle. He’s very introverted and doesn’t often seek out new people or acquaintances of his own accord.
  • Not keen on people in the first place, he’s very awkward when he ends up having to socialize with someone under casual circumstances. In a serious setting, he can get by just fine with focusing on the mission, but outside that? Small talk is one of his worst nightmares.
  • For the handful of people he feels comfortable with, he’s an incredibly sweet and thoughtful person. He’ll speak freely and easily with them, and cares deeply about them. This mostly applies to Akashi and Kyosuke, who he considers as family.
  • For the most part, he’s good at remaining calm and collected. This is partially because he tends to bottle up how he feels, but he has a good ability to keep a laser-like focus in even the most dire of situations.
  • Toru is the waterbender for the Tu Zin Tigerdillos, and he’s particularly famous among Pro-Bending fans. This is due to his amazing defensive abilities with his waterbending, able to deflect and guard against even some of the most complex strategies. In fact, his skill is so great, that his team employs the most unusual formation of having their waterbender stand center as the core defense, instead of their earthbender.
  • Bending is such a big part of his life that his main hobby is actually practicing it. Running through basic forms he knows well is calming to him, and keeps him in top shape. It also makes him happy and relaxed to practice his healing abilities too, so sometimes he disguises himself and helps injured homeless in the city.
  • His father is Salook, the Council member representing the Northern Water Tribe, but no one is aware of this. For some reason Salook claims to have two sons, rather than three, and Toru never speaks about him. In fact, they look nothing alike either, due to Toru having the lighter complexion of his mother’s people from the Earth Kingdom. Toru hasn’t even told his teammates the truth, and just lets everyone believe he was raised by his grandmother only.
  • He, Kyosuke, and Akashi all live together.
  • Toru is an open-minded and adaptable person, so when changes happen or he meets someone with a different viewpoint, he’s able to navigate through the situation in a generally positive way.
  • Due to being raised by his grandmother, he’s a bit knowledgeable about spirts, and has some understanding and information about past historical events. His grandmother would tell him fantastical stories when he was young, so he has some miscellaneous knowledge about that, too.
  • There’s a particular food shop that he really enjoys eating, that serves genuinely authentic Water Tribe food. It reminds him of the food he ate with his grandmother when he was young.
  • In addition to training under his grandmother, he has studied waterbending under some of the North’s best master. Additionally, one of his brother’s married a woman for from the Foggy Swamp Tribe, which was also educational for his bending skills.
  • He is a terrible driver. Kyosuke let him try driving his car just once and Toru almost killed them within the first five minutes.
  • Toru is loyal, perhaps to a fault, and if a person manages to earn his trust, than they can count on him to have their back for the rest of forever.
History:
The youngest of three, born to a Water Tribe Father and an Earth Kingdom mother, Toru had a harsh upbringing. As a child, he was close with his paternal grandmother more than his immediate family. His father, Salook, was a strict man who demanded only the best in appearances and demeanor from his entire family. Toru, who was a soft-hearted and sensitive child, had the most trouble with this but managed to cope with his father’s coldness and strict lifestyle with the warmth of his mother and grandmother. However, the dynamic completely changed when it was discovered that Toru was a Waterbender, the only one of the three brothers.
At first, he was thrilled and happy to be like his grandmother, but the sudden pressure of being his father’s new favorite child waned the happiness he felt quickly. He was forced to train under a harsh regimen, practicing for hours at a time, and was subjected to his father’s cruel punishments when he wasn’t perfect. Eventually, his father introduced him to a new art: bloodbending. Kind Toru didn’t even begin to have the stomach for it though, so after only the first couple lessons, Toru spilled everything to his grandmother. To this day, he isn’t clear on what exactly happened with the dynamic, but only a few days later, he was packed up and moved in with his grandmother. Under her teaching, Toru quickly began to find the joy and whimsy in waterbending again. He also grew into an incredibly skilled healer through her tutelage.
A few years ago, his father was awarded the prestigious honor of representing the Northern Water Tribe on the Republic City Council, and so Toru and his immediate family were all forced to move to the city. Immediately, Toru began looking for a way out, not wanting to even be under the same roof as his father, but not having any resources to escape his grip. Fortunately, one day, Toru encountered Kyosuke and Akashi who tried to recruit him to their Pro-Bending team. Toru refused at first, not being the most open individual, but with Kyosuke’s persistence and their eventual bonding over a mutual gang fight, Toru agreed to join. Although he clashed with Akashi first, they quickly moved past it, and became friends. In fact, Toru considers them as his family.
After Kyosuke met the Avatar, Toru was the slowest to warm up to her. However, he eventually agreed to help her along with his teammates, and is even currently assisting in her waterbending training. With that, Toru became one of the original three members of Team Avatar.

History:
To understand Naoki's story, we need to go back further, into the time of the last Avatar before any of this generation was even a twinkle in their mothers' eyes. Back when the Earthbending Avatar still lived, a Fire Nation lieutenant was sent to assist a unit of United Forces soldiers in securing one of the many skirmishes and outbreaks of violence within Republic City. The Lieutenant had worked diligently and earned her rank and honor for her family, a lesser noble home within the fire nation's many high ranking noble houses. There are many stories that could be told of Lieutenant Inizo but those are for another time, suffice to say she met a Earth Kingdom migrant named Li within Republic City and the two were enamored with one another. Li and Inizo fit together like two puzzle pieces, one's faults were filled with the other's strengths, complimenting one another to form something new and complete.

Li followed Inizo back to the Fire Nation after her deployment ended and they were wed in the Fire Nation capitol soon after. Then came their first two children, Teimun and Guni. Both children displayed talent with their mother's element at a young age and Inizo relished in it. She got the idea in her head that she, or rather her merit and honor, would become greater at her children's hands and went to work shaping the two into prodigies. Teimun attended the Royal Fire Academy for Girls where she studied the bending arts in anticipation for military service. Guni had less interest in fighting but at their Mother's urging they too folded to her will and studied under their master until they were ready to enter the United Forces. Inizo swelled with pride, watching her children's success, knowing that their little house would only continue rising in greatness and prestige because of her careful molding of the two talented young benders. Li taught the children softer bits of life, like how to cook for themselves, pack for long trips in deployment, and care for their bodies after hard training sessions. To the rest of the world they were a family quickly becoming a pillar of support for their nation: proof to some of the merits behind bending and non-bending unions still leading to successful bending lineage... But that wasn't the entire story.

Naoki is the last piece of the puzzle. The often forgotten and purposefully overshadowed child of Li and Lieutenant Inizo. Why? Because she took after her father rather than her mother. Unlike Teimun or Guni, when Naoki was a child she didn't show any sign of firebending. Her mother put her in the dryest of conditions with the most combustible, fragile materials she could find and still Naoki couldn't produce a single spark. The family moved to the little town of Shu Jing in the Eastern Fire Nation soon after Inizo accepted that her last child was not what she had hopped, intending to limit the poor publicity it would cause. After that Inizo would rarely give an interview that didn't mention one of her eldest children and pushed the others harder in their training to ensure that their greatness would shine too bright for anyone to bother inquiring after little Naoki. It hurt her to know she would never be what her mother intended, and to avoid the shame that filled her gaze every time Naoki came into sight, Naoki took to spending her time with her father.

Li taught Naoki the ways of his people. Truthfully he was happy to have a child that would have time to hear the tales of his home, Kyoshi Island, and who would value the little lessons of life he had to offer. Li taught Naoki how to survive life while Inizo taught the others to survive battle. Eventually, though, it wasn't enough for Naoki. The stories of her father's motherland with it's women warriors who had once served her mother's nation with only their hands and blades swirled in her mind until they settled into an idea that would change the path of her future. Once she started to show interest in the path, Inizo couldn't ship Naoki off fast enough. At age 13, with her parent's blessing, Naoki set off to Kyoshi Island to live with her Aunt, Shumi, and learn the ways of a Kyoshi Warrior.

For five years Naoki trained with hand, blade, sword, shield, and everything in between alongside women who felt just as much family as her own flesh and blood. She learned the tales of General Kyoshi- a bringing of lasting peace and the fierce hand of justice- and the Avatars who helped the world leap into a new era- better than all but the most dedicated historians. When her training was finished she traveled the earth kingdom with her sisters, helping where they could, all the while hoping deep down that maybe, just maybe, her mother might hear of their victories and maybe... Just maybe, she might tell the world about her daughter Naoki, the Kyoshi warrior who was doing just as much for the world as her firebending siblings. That day never came, so Naoki decided it might be time to try something new. Republic City was where her parents had met and found greatness, so maybe she would have similar luck there.

Bumblebeee Bumblebeee Naoki is accepted, and she's so charming! I especially love all of the little quotes in her trivia section, that's so fun and really made me feel like I got to know her! Just one small detail to clarify, the Avatar before Yira who helped establish Republic City was actually from the Fire Nation, which I saw the previous Earth Avatar (who died long before Republic City existed) was mentioned so I just wanted to clarify this detail! But yes, nothing wrong with her CS whatsoever, I'm sooooo excited to have such a cool non-bender join us!

Thanks! Yeah, so sorry, that's a goof! I must have not been paying attention lol

Sexuality: Bisexual
Home Nation: Southern Water Tribe

Bender/Non-Bender: Bender
Specialization: Water, particularly skilled mastery with switching between forms
Affiliations: White Lotus

Character Trivia:
-Was blessed by the Moon spirit as a baby, which is what gives her white hair.
-A bit of a historian.
-Takes her job as the Avatar's mentor SUPER seriously. Might even micromanage the other mentors if they don't act mentor-y enough.
-Has an aggressive personality, but has an amazingly free-flowing style of bending. Can effortlessly switch between water forms.
-Incorporates ice a lot.
-Reads historical romance novels as a secret hobby, and doesn't want anyone to know she likes something so "frivolous."
-Looks really young for her age, which is super common in her family. Her ancient great grandmother still looks like she's only 50.
-Strict as a teacher, but able to adapt to learning styles a student might have.
-DOES NOT like technology. Doesn't understand it, doesn't know how to use it, doesn't want to use it.
-Likes Pro-Bending though. Thinks it's an innovative form of bending and an excellent study in style.
-Has a bit of rivalry/animosity towards Northerners, since that's been a thing between the two tribes for a long time now.
-Has trained around 12 students in her lifetime so far.
-Isn't here to make friends, she's here to train the Avatar.
History:
Korine received a blessing from a moon spirit when she was only a child after a tragic accident left her with a permanent spine injury. For reasons unknown, the spirit saved her, and healed her. Her hair turned white, and she was able to move like that accident never even occurred. She was a late bloomer in discovering her bending, not finding out she was a waterbender until around age 15. She had next to no natural talent, but loved bending, and wanted desperately to be good at it. Because of her training and dedication to the art, she was named a master at 25, and has been teaching students for the past ten years. Recently, she was contacted by the White Lotus and offered a position to teach the Avatar, something she accepted as the highest honor that could possibly be bestowed on her. She's dedicated her life to bending, and is looking forward to sharing it with Yira.

Hello, I am looking at this but I also just wanted to ask what kind of character you are looking for now that you have a pretty good cast of characters 👀

Chimeric Chimeric Hello there, thanks for stopping by!! To be honest with you, I'd prefer any character that you think will be fun! This thread wasn't designed specifically with too many roles in mind, but rather making a fun plot with whatever characters people wanted to play! You can choose whatever you like, but if you're a person that could use some guidance, we would definitely welcome a White Lotus member, a member of one of the Triads, or maybe even another non-bender! But, these are just suggestions!

Name: Kirima
Age: 27
Gender: Cisgender Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Home Nation: Northern Water Tribe, but she moved here when she was a teen
***
Bender/Non-Bender: Bender
Specialization: Waterbender and healing
Affiliations: Triple Threat Triad
***
Character Trivia:
— Was raised in the Northern Water tribe but when she got pregnant out of wedlock she was banished to Republic City by her folks
— "Swear jar!"
— Runs one of the above the board businesses for the Triple Threat Triads, Sparrowkeet Scrolls and Books, the police know it's dirty but can never find a way to prove it
— "I would love to knock some heads together, I'll do it!"
— The most important things in her life are her children, Arnook (10) and Senna (4)
— "Officer, I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about."
— Was considered a waterbending prodigy as a teenager
— "Motherfuc-"
— Loves a good fight, but is equally fond of talking circles around people to get out of a tight spot
— "Darling, Mommy is going to do her best to be there on time for your dance concert, and if I'm late you can blame your Auntie Ven, okay?"
— Has three highly trained Pygmy Pumas that act sort of like guard animals for her kids and her shop/home
— "Don't be stupid. Of course I'll finish the job."
— Because of her unassuming appearance and silver tongue, Kirima is frequently the 'good cop' to Ven's 'bad cop'... Though neither of them could be considered particularly good...
— "If you ever come near my children again I swear I'll make you regret it."
— Horrible luck (taste) with men. Arnook's father pretended she didn't exist after he found out she was pregnant and Senna's dad stuck around for like a year before bailing on her for another woman
— "Was that... Smoke?... My daughter is a firebender... I guess you took after your Daddy. Cool."
— Kirima doesn't shy away from violence, she sees her own unsavory actions as the best way to keep her kids safe. If she can get money to support them, maybe send them to some good schools when they get older, then they won't ever have to dirty their hands with a life of crime
— "Oh, easy! Give me a day and I'll get you an invite."
—She always knows a guy, and if she doesn't know a guy, she has a guy that knows a guy. Kirima has her ear on the pulse of Republic City and knows everyone from gang members to council members (having two adorable little kids in a fancy private school gives you a surprising amount of access to powerful people- after all, even mayors go to their kids' PTA events)
— "Wow! Look at that beautiful drawing! Let's go pick a fun magnet and put it on the fridge, kiddo."
History:
At 16, Kirima was positive she had found her forever with a boy who lived down the street from her. He would smile at her and walk her to her bending training, laugh at her, and made her feel beautiful like every teenage girl wanted. In retrospect she could see the red flags clearly, but she was young and naive and didn't realize his whispers of forever in stolen moments were a bribe rather than a promise. After a few weeks of pleading and convincing and pressuring, he and Kirima took their relationship to the next level physically. Kirima got pregnant. She expected him to help her, he didn't. In fact, he was cruel to her once he heard the news. Then Kirima turned to her parents and they weren't much better, claiming she had disgraced their family. Kirima decided she would rather raise this kid herself than stick around and live with shame and disgust hanging over her, so at two months pregnant she stole all the money she could find out of her parents' safe, packed a bag and ran to Republic City.

With no one around to help, Kirima got a shitty job in a rough part of town in a one bedroom apartment that she paid for with what she had stolen from her parents. Soon that wasn't enough to make ends meet. She was fired from her job, the baby was on the way, and she needed help. She needed money. So... She started pickpocketing and stealing from stores. No one expected the pregnant girl with big blue eyes and a charming laugh to be the one that snatched a wallet or pocketed a pair of earrings. It work well for a while, she was able to buy diapers, a crib, and even go to her first doctor's appointment and find out her baby was healthy... Then she picked the wrong pocket. A high ranking Triple Threat member caught her, but rather than turn her in or teach her a lesson about stealing from them, he was impressed.

The Triple Threats started asking her for favors and offering her a larger payout than she would have managed on her own. A few members of the gang and their spouses helped her once the baby came. She learned how to swaddle from the second in command's sister and the same guy who showed her how to run from the cops showed her how to change a diaper. They became her chosen family and when she was ready, she started taking a more active role in the gang.

Years later, Kirima was a far cry from the wide eyed girl she had been in the Norther Water Tribe. She had killed, robbed, tortured, seduced, all in the name of the Triple Threats. She met Ven who had become a close friend, an Aunt to her son, and they climbed the ranks together. Then another boy came along and Kirima fell, not quite as fast as before, but it wasn't the healthiest relationship in the world. Yet again, Kirima found herself pregnant but this time she was excited rather than scared. Her boyfriend, Zoryu, stuck around and was even enthusiastic about their coming child. The day he learned the news he bought a mobile to hang above her crib and even thought to buy Arnook a toy so he wouldn't grow jealous of his future little sibling. Kirima thought, sincerely, that this time it would work out. Senna was born beautiful and healthy with her father's dark hair and brown eyes and both her parents adored her. Problem was, a year later Zoryu decided he liked someone else more. A leggy little airbender that didn't come with a screaming baby. Zoryu left town with her and some stolen goods from the Triad. Kirima didn't bother looking into what happened to him, but if she had to guess, well, people didn't often get away with backstabbing the Triad. Leaving her was stupid, stealing from Ven was down right idiotic.

Kirima was left to be a single mother by day and at night she stood at Ven's side, taking out her frustration at the world on the seedy underbelly of Republic City.
