Princess of Irrelevance

As You Like It.

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts.”

-- William Shakespeare, As You Like It.

Lore

A long time ago, there was only man. Then, from the forest came a darkness. It set about the land, a blight that ravaged the fields, devoured babes in the stomach, stole children from their homes. The people began to stir. For, what could their High King provide if not the certainty of a meal, a roof, and the protection for their families?

Desperate for salvation, he sought what wisdom he could find. Bearded scholars would rub their chin, suggest they bleed the evil from the land with leeches to his skin. The crown, after all, was connected to the land, and so perhaps this corruption lay within. Priests and holy men spoke of sacrifice. The Gods would not be appeased until atonement was made. The King should sacrifice his only child to save the children of his subjects. That was one feat he could not do. Frantic, he set sail to the High Lands, where legend taunted that lost could there be found.

When the King returned, the court spoke that he was indeed much changed, there was no crown atop his head nor jewels upon his person. Yet, he returned with allies, strange men this world had never seen, born some said from the smoke of sanctuary. They called themselves the Knights of Valour, each adorned with a weapon of their choice that had been forged from the old man’s crown. They would, the King proclaimed, protect the land and save man from the darkness that had set upon them.

The Knights of Valour built up their wall, that salvaged men from the beasts that set from the North. As time passed the Kingdom began to heal. So, in turn, they took their bounty. They divided the Kingdom into eight separate houses, each catered to their name and to suit their different demeanours.

Neptune, House of Exploration;

Mercury, House of Trade;

Venus, House of Art;

Mars, House of War;

Jupiter, House of Schooling;

Saturn, House of Agriculture;

Uranus, House of Diplomacy;

Pluto, House of Construction;

The human world flourished, each house trading with another. Time passed and the creatures from the darkness became little more than legend, a tale passed across the fireside. Until, 500 years passed and cracks began to appear in their fortification. Their sanctuary gave way, brick by brick, beginning to crumble. There were whispers that the darkness had returned, of creatures that slipped in the night and took children for their own. People went missing, daily. Crops failed. Livestock was slaughtered by almost invisible foes. Those who lived to see, who saw anything at all, spoke of the most horrid beings, concepts beyond the wildest imaginations. Pointed ears, fangs as sharp as wild boar teeth, men who grew hair like grizzly bears. Many laughed. Others shuddered. Little did they know what lay beyond their wall, little did they know of what creatures truly lay waiting.

North of the Wall

Prythian is composed of seven separately ruled lands called "courts" consisting of four seasonal courts: the Summer Court, the Autumn Court, the Winter Court, and the Spring Court, and three solar courts: the Night Court, the Day Court, and the Dawn Court. It also borders the Mortal Lands to the south, with the only separation between them being the Wall, and lies east of the Kingdom of Hybern.

Seasonal Courts

Prythian consists of four seasonal courts: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. The geography of the seasonal courts begins with the Spring Court, the southernmost court, and the only court to border the wall that separates the Mortal Lands from Prythian. North of the Spring Court lies the Summer Court and Autumn Court, Summer to the east, and Autumn to the west. The fourth and final seasonal court is the Winter Court, which lies north of the Summer Court and Autumn Court. Despite following the natural cycle of night and day, each of the seasonal courts only remains in the season specified by their court name. The Summer Court only ever experiences summer, etc.

Solar Courts

North of the seasonal courts resides the three solar courts: the Night Court, the Day Court, and the Dawn Court. The Dawn Court resides north of the Winter Court and is known for its mountain palace in the clouds. Continuing North of the Dawn Court is the Day Court, the court said to contain much of Prythian's history within its abundance of libraries. Occupying the land to the far north is the Night Court, the largest and most feared of all of the courts. Unlike the seasonal courts, the solar courts do not remain in eternal states of dawn, day, or night. Each of them follows the daily cycle of day and night, although it has been stated that those of the Night Court experience more stunning and breathtaking night scenes than that of the other courts.

The Courts in further detail

Night Court:

Court of Darkness, they have powers often associated with dreams, souls and shadows. The most elusive court, many flee here for sanctuary. This court possesses the most ominous reputation, shrouded in a mysterious allure. There is little known of its inhabitants, except the cold and merciless wrath that is the Court of Nightmares. They consist of the stories the fair folk warn their toddlers in tantrum.

Day Court:
Day Court is inclined to diplomacy for it brings peace and times of artistic prosperity. They favour arts and any creatures that can provide such fancy. Their powers consist of light, healing and empathy.

Dawn Court:
Dawn Court is an elite state in which scholars thrive. No man can lay weapon there. They are a well protected alcove to the North, where the pen is mightier than the sword. It is claimed their royals possess telekinesis and mind control. Their powers prosper with the brain and knowledge.

Winter Court :
Winter Court has seasons so harsh and cruel that only the undead may prosper in the northernmost regions. Vampires are the lead inhabitants and the powers are largely elemental, fixating on breath, air and ice.

Autumn Court:
Shapeshifters and werewolves slip through falling leaves, so sneaky and cunning you will neither see them come nor go. Their powers set in illusions and transformation. They are widely known not to be trusted.

Summer Court:
The High Lord of Summer is believed to be enchanted by his council of witches and warlocks. Here, the people are close to the land. Nature speaks to them, and they to nature. They are attune with life, healing, and spiritual well-being.

Spring Court:
Elves, nymphs, sirens, trolls and mermaids reside in Spring, the most magical court of all. Everything is sweet but sinister. It is believed their people are prophetic and can sculpt the future itself by making bargains with the wishing well, notorious for taking as much as it will give.

is the discord mandatory?

Good question!! There is a lot of plotting and OOC going on in the server. I would recommend joining, if for nothing else then for that purpose. Presently, we plan on using both RPNation and Discord, which is why this is not an off-site ad. However, we will likely use the general consensus to decide where people would prefer to write.

alright, but i dont have discord, for personal reasons. can i still do this?

Oooh this looks so interesting! Sadly, I don't have a discord or else I would've joined. Regardless, have a fun time in the rp!

Ok, nvm, I do, in fact, now have a discord! Joining!!

I’m sorry to hear! We are considering writing platforms, so if we open a thread here I’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, yes, this is still open, plotting and scheming. There are some writing arcs set out , but nothing to leave anyone lost and confused.
