[ CAFFEINE_OBSESSED X MATCHA GIRL ]

no one was taking the news seriously, the reports coming from hawaii's small news sources claiming that the dead were coming back to life. no one wanted to believe it and just chalked it up to a new drug coming into the world. but now that hawaii has gone dark the "monster" talk has been swept under the rug.

current day in their small town, things have started to spiral. the family that had came back from hawaii on a vacation has all died and the quarantine once set in place at their town's medical center has been breached. infection has left the hospital via multiple patients unaware they were exposed and a nurse who was a little too careless in her care of the sick. the news has begun to report on "cannibalistic" attacks running rampant through their town, but it wasn't just there either. those who had connecting flights and went elsewhere in the world were also causing havoc now. the military has yet to fully respond. the government has issued its first warning while they "assess" the situation, and people are just trying to live their lives still.

where will your story begin as the world ends ?

confused. where am i?
xiao yu yan
a choked cough escaped from her throat.

raw and rough. yu yan woke up like a lightning bolt, immediate and way too quick for her own good. taking a second to gain back all her consciousness. her vision was filled with black spots and overwhelmed due to the dizziness of yu yan scrambling to sit up way too quick. the unmistakably dry feeling from her mouth and the taste of iron. everything ached. it felt like she has been through hell and back, but repeat that for twenty time. panicking obsidian black eye scanned her environment, she was apparently sleeping on top of a rooftop all alone, not that she even have any memories of coming up and even sleeping up here.

or any memories at all.

it seemed impossible to remember how she got here, why she ended up on top of this rusty, crappy building full of dust and all filthy. her head was blurry, everything was foggy and unclear. no memories whatsoever about her childhood, her friends, family? if she had any that is. the only thing that she surely knows is that her name was yu yan. she was yu yan.

everything hurts, and terribly so. but she tried her best to rise up on shaky legs. bones crackling and joints popping, wincing slightly as yu yan reached her hands out to latch onto the rusty sidebar right next to her. head raced with thoughts and possible ideas about what happened. her clothes were extremely dusty, a possible sign that she had stayed on this rooftop for a long time. yu yan began to brush off the visible dirt and musk that were stuck on her shirt, she could really use a shower right now. but where would she go? grimacing at the topic, she continued assessing the area.

there was no one up here and she has no memories. what was she to do? well without a doubt, not sit around and cry. forcing trembling legs to work and to guide her around, to explore and figure out exactly what is going on. the weather was extremely humid, bright sun covered by a dusty colored cloud. there was not much to look at, no one in sight and just more destroyed buildings and a sky filled with clouds. perhaps there was a nuclear explosion?

and she somehow survived on a rooftop? no way. it was a terribly stupid idea, but it would explain why there is no alive creature even 50 meters near her.

"fuck it, whatever." she hissed out, beneath her breath, desperate for some other human presence it's time to pull out the big guns. pausing a second to gather up all her strength and also swallow. her throat and mouth remained dry, voice hoarse and uneven.

on the top of her lungs, yu yan yelled out "hey—anyone out there?" she probably shouldn't get her hopes up high, if there was some sort of a nuclear explosion, it would be pretty damn annoying if she was the sole survivor. with no sense of surviving.

Callahan Russo
Callahan roamed the streets, looking for an easy building to search. He was on another supply run. However this time he was venturing further out, farther than he was comfortable with- that was for sure. He wasn't idiotic enough to walk along the main road, so he edged along the sidewalk, ducking from building to building.

So far, the places he had seen already looked ransacked, or totally broken down. Luck was not on his side today. There were a few zombies walking along the street that he made sure to stay clear of. Though a big chunk of them were standing right in front of the shopping mart he was headed towards. Concealing himself behind an alleyway's dumpster, he pulled out his machete, eyeing the dead beings.

Before he could make a move however, he heard a shout from a rooftop some ways away. ' Shit. what kind of moron decided it was a good idea to yell at a time like this?! ' Callahan got himself up from his crouching position, glancing around and trying to find the fastest way towards that voice. He really shouldn't get involved, but for some reason- his guilty conscience was screaming at him to at least check it out. It wasn't often that he listened to it- but he just couldn't ignore it now.

Callahan made his way past the zombies who were clearly making their way towards the sound as well. Fortunately for him, the building he ended up at wasn't already surrounded by the undead. Lifting himself over a broken window, he searched for the way upstairs, trying his best to remain unseen in the process.

He finally arrived at- what he thinks- is the top floor. His eyes caught sight of the rooftops boarded up door. How the hell had this even happened? Why was someone even trapped up here? He shook his head. He didn't have time to be questioning things right now, the dead could be crowded around here in any minute. Slinging his backpack down, he rifled through it until he felt the metal of his crowbar. He snatched it out then started prying the wooden boards off the door, heaving with effort.

By the time the last board was off, he was already a sweaty mess. Those suckers were pinned down good... Callahan hastily threw the crowbar back into his bag, then kicked open the door, making his way onto the rooftop.

that definitely does not look good.
xiao yu yan
she was not alone. yu yan would be happier knowing this fact a feeew minutes ago, although this guy pretty much seems like a huge stick in the mud. or he's out there to murder her. but it doesn't matter anyways, she's not the only one. which is, a good thing!

standing on the other side of the rooftop, he was definitely fit, and could definitely kill her pretty easily. a punch in the throat would definitely not defuse this situation at all. so yu yan made her mind up, rather than making an enemy out of him she's going to convince him to protect her. but first, she has to start a conversation, perhaps yu yan has gotten a little too lost in her thoughts and stared at the other strange man a little too long, "uhm—what's up b—bro?" her voice cracked, twice. in the same sentence. maybe she wouldn't really mind if he killed her at this point.

a slurring sound broke her out of her thoughts, multiple slurring sounds. turning her back around to the strange man, which is a pretty bad move but she's more curious about the sound. hands gripping onto the rusty side bar as she supported her body to lean out and look down, wincing slightly as it cut into her hands, the little droplet of blood falling out onto the bar.

although, that was none of her concerns. there are a surprisingly large amount of people gathering around the building. and they looked very weird, like the undead people you see in the zombie movies. was this some movie production that she walked in on? because the set is really incredibly convincing. and that would also explain the weird-smelling air around them.

"hey, is this a prank or something..?" yu yan trailed off, an awkward chuckle lingering back behind her throat. if it was a prank, then damn that guy is a pretty damn good actor because he definitely looks like he's actually annoyed.

Callahan glared daggers at the girl in front of him. After a couple seconds of staring at one another in silence, his nerves were starting to reach it's limits. What the hell was she doing up here? He allowed his eyes to roam her body, looking for any injuries or flaws... She looked.. fine. How was this possible? She looked like a normal girl who woke up from a nap... albeit a lot more dustier and worn out.

He was suddenly ripped from his thoughts as she spoke to him.

...

'....Bro? what the hell did she think this was?! A college party?! ' He opened his mouth with- no doubt- an insult at the tip of his tongue, it seemed something else caught her attention, turning her back to him. He froze, momentarily insulted. Who did she think she was to be ignoring him like that?! He shook his head as he walked up beside her, peering over the ledge to see what enraptured her attention.

'Shit' It looked like the undead already found them. He knew it was a better idea to ignore this place. now he put himself in danger.

He rolled his eyes at her question. This was a seriously inappropriate time to be joking like this. Without wasting another second, he grabbed her arm and began dragging her off of the rooftop. He swore under his breath as he paused on the final stairwell, staring at the zombies that crowded their escape. How were they supposed to get of this alive?! With an annoyed grunt, he pushed her forward, he spit out in a low voice, "run and don't look back. If you treat this like a game, I will be the one to kill you, not them. GO! " With that said, he went back up to the 2nd floor, yelling to draw their attention to him.

This was such a stupid idea...
