LORE
200 years ago, humans and elves lived peacefully together in a country called Arkadia. The elves lived in the forests and made their homes within the trees, while the humans built their homes out of clay on the ground. Many elves chose to live with the humans, and vice versa. One day, a young human woman, growing tired of the simple life she and her people led, abandoned the village. When she returned six days later, it was with magic in her veins. She called herself the first of the Aera. She could bend water to her will, twist the earth to make houses, and conjure fire with her bare hands. She was treated as a goddess in human form.

Delphine Tremayne single-handedly changed the course of human history. After her reappearance, every 1/10 humans were born with a magical ability. Elves, however, were not. Delphine, using her power and status, forcibly took over ruling her people and became the first true Queen of Arkadia. She established the first and oldest city, Lullin, built entirely with her magic. But eventually, Delphine grew tired of even that. She lusted for power, and that turned into wanting to have more power over others. She had the humans, but she didn't have all the elves (some lived in Lullin, but that was not all). The older elves, stuck in their ways or reluctant to completely abandon their culture and homes, refused to move into the city as Delphine wanted. Many even refused to see her as a goddess.

In response, Delphine led her most devout followers to believe that humans were superior to elves because they had magic while the elves did not. The belief spread and spread, until the people of Lullin turned on their former elven friends, believing themselves superior. When Dephine began a war with the elf clans who refused to be hers, she claimed it was their right as the superior race. In the history books, it came to be known as the Great Human-Elf War. It lasted 7 years. At the end of it, Delphine had what she wanted. The elves, having lost their homes and nearly everything else, were imprisoned or indentured servants in Lullin.

History paints Delphine Tremayne as a hero who stopped a terrible war and brought about the golden age of humanity. Through the surviving stories passed down by elves, she was a great evil, the catalyst for the end of all things.

Today, the Aera are taken to the Crown City of Lullin the moment their magic surfaces, if discovered, to be either part of the King's army or his royal guard. The King, Easton Tremayne, is the 9th Tremayne to take the throne, and the most powerful Aera in the world. The elves live as second-class citizens throughout Arkadia. Some were kidnapped, coerced, or born into slavery. While it's technically illegal, slave traders forge documents for their slaves, claiming to anyone who looks too closely that they're working to pay off debts. Others work as servants for nobles and the upper class and earn a meager salary. Most businesses won't hire an elf, and elves are generally treated with suspicion and disrespect.

PLOT
It began in the town of Pinella's Pass. One day, a young Aera fell sick and began coughing up black blood. No doctor could identify the sickness, and neither could they treat it. Within a day, the Aera was dead and an Aera living in secret on the other side of town became sick. They died two days later. Then, the human doctors that came into contact with the Aera fell ill. They lasted longer—a week or two, if they were lucky, but the result was the same. The disease had a 100% mortality rate. It became known as the Black Scourge. Once the first non-Aera became sick, it spread through the rest of the population like a poison in the air, infecting everyone—but the elves. No matter how many dead bodies they helped burn or sick they cleaned up after, they didn't get sick. They were immune. Three weeks after the first case of the Scourge, half of the humans in Pinella's Pass were dead.

Upon receiving news of the town's slow demise, King Easton sent a group of Aera soldiers to investigate the area. What they found was a ghost town. After the remaining elves told the soldiers what they witnessed, they were arrested and accused of causing the Scourge with poison. Then, on the way back to the Crown City, the Aera soldiers fell sick. Since then, the Scourge has spread to the towns surrounding Pinella's Pass, and slowly expands its reach with each passing day. No one knows what caused it, where it came from, or how to stop it. All anyone knows is that it affects Aera the hardest, and elves are immune.

ROLE
You are an elf from the coastal town of Sulwen (either born or sold). Sulwen is a major trading post in Arkadia, as half of all supplies that are shipped from the Crown City dock in Sulwen, and then delivered to other regions. To a lesser extent, it's known for fishing. Beneath the surface, however, Sulwen is known for having the largest elven black market in Arkadia. Elven people, artifacts, and other things are all sold within the underbelly of Sulwen and then transported elsewhere, or handed off to rich merchants that live within the town and thrive off trade.

In Sulwen, the Black Scourge has only just arrived. Very few are sick, but everyone human knows that it's only a matter of time until the disease ravages the town. Some have already abandoned Sulwen, with more surely to follow. You, for one reason or another, were approached by a modestly rich merchant. Wary of being seen with you and damaging his social status, the merchant was brief and to the point. His daughter caught the Scourge. Still in the early stages of the disease, the merchant was hopeful that she could still be saved. He told you of rumors of a cure, locked away within the King's castle in Lullin. And he offered you a ridiculous amount of money to steal it and bring it back to him. He gave you a time and date to meet later that night to discuss the matter further and left as quickly as he came.

RULES OF ARKADIA
◉Half-elves have no magic, but can be affected by the Black Scourge.
◉The stronger the Aera or human, the longer they can resist the Scourge.
◉A medicine to slow the Scourge has been developed, but it's not available to everyone.
◉Towns have 200 or less people. Cities have 500+ people.
◉One Aera is posted within each town, and they report directly to the King.
◉Aera's only have control over one form of magic (one element). Only the Tremayne's have multiple forms of magic.
◉An Aera's magic manifests at the age of six. From there, they're taken to Lullin (with or without the consent of their parents) and educated and trained to be a loyal soldier. If they're especially talented, they're recruited to join the royal guard.
◉Elves are not allowed to enter other towns without proper identification.
◉The technology level is pre-Industrial Revolution. Trains are a relatively new thing, but less convenient, since railroad tracks aren't everywhere, a train ticket is extremely expensive, and they typically break down. Horses or carriages are the preferred mode of transportation. Luckily for you, you'll be traveling on foot.

RP RULES
1. The character you make is not limited by what the plot needs. By that I mean you can create a character that hates humans and everything they stand for, but I'd like to imagine that even someone like that would be swayed by enough money to buy a small island.
2. You can be a half-elf, half-human, but the first rule of Arkadia is the only warning I'll give on that.
3. One paragraph minimum. No one liners.
4. Activity: I expect a post once every five days, at minimum. If you can't or something comes up, tell me why in advance.
5. No godmodding, powerplaying, etc.

With enough interest, I'll make a dedicated lore page and point out where everything is on the map.
