horrorshow

black magic and cigarettes
Post your characters here! I'm not gonna give you guys a strict deadline. Let's say by August 3rd we should have characters up. I'm giving you a little over a week for that.
The Overachiever : This young person has spent their entire life training for this moment
to come and attend the school and make their family proud. They are ruthlessly competitive
and fiercely smart. They will let nothing and no one stand in their way when it comes to
perfecting their talent and refining it into unmatched skill. They come from
a very wealthy and well liked family and are accustomed to always getting their way.
redroseknight redroseknight

The Rebel : This creative youth just simply does not want to be here
Living up to a family's dream of pursuing the arts, they harbor more resentment than passion
for it. Despite their talent, they have no real desire to succeed at this school.
This is more of an opportunity to explore themselves, now that they are
finally away from their family. However, without the necessary effort
they do risk getting themselves into insurmountable trouble
and even possibly expelled.

The Dreamer : This dreamer got in by what they felt was the skin of their teeth.
They have never had a supportive family or too many friends. Their efforts have always been
primarily focused on their art. They grew up in extreme poverty, and have not
had the opportunities the others have had to succeed in their dreams.
Lacking in self confidence (and they believe also lacking in talent), they
are only here to learn and don't want any distractions to get in the way.
This is the chance they've always hoped for.

horrorshow horrorshow

*The Best Friends : These two have worked together on everything for as long as they can remember.
Their collaborative efforts in their trade never cease to amaze their audience. They have
always been the closest of friends, and the stress of moving so far away from home
and learning to live this new life surely won't come between them. Right?
Gunnhildr Gunnhildr

The Hippie : This young artist has always gone with the flow.
Life happens, things come and go, but they've never doubted themselves.
They have always believed everything happens for a reason and
they are proud of how far they have come. Humility and peace
has always been their way. However, being from a small town
this daunting new location and the demands of a prestigious art school
are challenging everything they thought they knew about themselves.
Can peace be maintained in the fast lane?
ebb ebb

The Rogue : The rogue has spent so much time working on their skill
that they have rarely had close friends and feel the need to get everything
done by themselves. They are arrogant and believe partying, friendships, love
are all types of distraction from the primary goal: success!
A tough nut to crack, they have no intentions of getting too
emotionally involved with other people now... But sticking to that
in college may be harder than they initially believed.
voracity voracity

The Sheltered : The child of religious parents who were heavily
involved in ministry. This youth has spent a lifetime wanting to
experience the world the way that other young people have always gotten to.
With no friends outside of church, a history of having been home schooled and
sheltered from the "real world", their art has been their only escape.
Navigating without a parent's hand to hold is going to prove their greatest
struggle in college. Especially when they find out
the world is not as kind as they had dreamed.

Appearance: 1564100075257.png
Full name: Yessenia Lupei
Trade (What kind of art you are pursuing): Musical Theater
Age, birthday, zodiac sign: 21, July 19, Cancer
Gender/Pronouns: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian
Mental/Emotional health: Practically neurotic about her craft, she pushes herself to the breaking point in order to obtain perfection. One little mistake and she falls to pieces, working until she can perform that piece she messed up on ten times in a row without an error. When it comes to relationships, they are essentially none existent. That would be a distraction and besides, no one could really keep up with her busy schedule.

She wakes up at dawn to go for a run to clear her head and practice singing while moving. After showering and getting ready, she has vocal lessons from 7-10, acting lessons from 10-12, an hour lunch break that is utilized for her to practice her guitar on her own,1-4 is dance and choreographical classes. Following this schedule, she also takes ballroom dancing in the city every Monday and Wednesday from 6-8 and does open mic night on Fridays from 8-11 at O'Neill's.

Personality: Yessenia cares more about what people think of her than she does her own welfare. The reason she pushes herself so hard is that she can't stand the thought of others finding her a failure. Deep down though, she is very lonely since her passion for her art and dedication to it could only fill her heart so much. She misses her friends from high school, misses the connections that she had with some of the other lead actresses and actors that she worked with, but she couldn't bring herself to pursue any relationships even on the friendly end of the spectrum. Too many people count on her to be successful; she can't be selfish and get distracted by pretty faces no matter how much she longs for love.

*Music (a few songs your character likes/relates to): Bleed Like Me: Garbage.
Castle: Halsey
Emilie Autumn: Swallow

Backstory: Yessenia was born to be a star, and everyone knew it. The girl was just oozing with talent and had the dedication to match. She showed ambition through all of her childhood plays and high school theater, always getting the lead role as well as having the popularity to be crowned homecoming and prom queen. Most people looked up to her and saw her as the small town's starlet, the way to get the town on the map and give them something to be proud of. She tried in the past to have a few relationships, but they always fell apart due to her focus on her craft. No one was important enough to get in her way of becoming a household name across the nation.
Other (anything you want to add): When she gets really flustered she reverts to speaking in her first language, Romanian.

Appearance: See attached picture

Full name: Mason Wright

Trade (What kind of art you are pursuing) Painter (Oil paints)

Age, birthday, zodiac sign: 18, August 20, Virgo

Gender/Pronouns: Male, He/Him/His

Sexuality: Gay

Mental/Emotional health: he is an easy going guy, but has major anxiety when he does things that go against the church or what his family would disapprove of. Work in progress

Personality: Mason is a soft spoken kind of guy since he was born into a family with very strong opinions. He tends to agree with people even if he doesn't to avoid conflict. He was sheltered most of his life so he is very native and can easily be manipulated. He is a very kind and gentle soul and loves animals. He is very creative and sometimes doesn't sleep when he feels very inspired.

*Music (a few songs your character likes/relates to) anything by imagine dragons

Backstory: Mason was born into a very religious community and he is the youngest of 8 siblings. He was forbidden to talk to anyone outside of the community and was homeschooled his whole life. This didn't stop Mason from dreaming big about the outside world and craving the freedom that he has been denied. When Mason was little he and his grandma used to paint the trees outside and this is how he was introduced to the craft. From the beginning he was a natural and as the years went by his talent grew. When Mason was 13 he noticed that he was different than the other boys his age as girls didn't interested him like the others. By the time he was 14 he figured out he was gay, but he knew the kind of response he would get from his community so he kept quiet and threw himself into painting as an escape. He found out about the college through his grandmother and she was the driving force on convincing his parents to send him here. Now for the first time in his life Mason is out on his own and without the pressures of the community and the church holding him back. He wants to explore this crazy brand new place and be who he was destined to be.

Likes: Art, Imagine dragons, hot Chamomile tea, nature, Cheese cake that his mom makes, and sweaters

Dislikes: Loud people, Rude people, Spiders, Sleeping, Camping, and the color orange.

Other (anything you want to add): his main craft is painting with oil paints but he really wants to branch out into other forms of painting including, drawing, water color, and Acrylic Painting

Schedule: Work in progress

He’d cringe watching them take leaps off cliffs and grip the seat as they sped down the back roads. The tight knit nature of the community meant teenagers were trusted to hike the back woods and camp along the coast. After all, crime was low and nature was one of the few things the city had to offer. Sensitive to social pressure, Sage rarely voiced these opinions at the risk of being an outcast, and went along with these escapades.

Ironically, it wasn’t the cliff jumping that caused the accident - but the childish negligence of him and his friend group. Mid-winter, Sage and four of his friends borrowed a local boat from the harbour. This was something they did regularly with little concern from the community. However, several miles out, they accidentally beached the vessel and were unable to get it back into the water. Now stuck, they faced freezing temperatures. Sage, despite his best efforts to stay warm, developed hypothermia that caused long-lasting nerve damage to his left arm and side. To this day he has little to no feeling in his left side, especially in his limbs.

Although they were eventually rescued, this left a permanent mark on Sage’s physically state and ability to ignore the gnawing concern associated with not considering every pitfall of a situation. It also affected his social life, because he couldn’t help but voice his worries surrounding safety. The years following, Sage often confined himself to the rocky trails and quiet campgrounds, preferring solitude and no longer feeling adequate to keep up with his friends. Most of his social interactions came from helping out his father’s bed and breakfast, where he helped out with front desk work and whatever he was physically capable of. Bored in the silent mornings, he often browsed a set of medical books left by a guest, flipping through the pages and picking up on terminologies and practices.

As winter arrived again, so did the transient dwellers of the mountains. They filed into town as the temperatures dropped, pressing themselves into doorframes and hunching away from the cold. Walking in from town, Sage was reminded of his close call with death and the aching pain of snow. As if daring him to do something, he returned to the B&B to find a young couple beside the garage, clinging to each other with chattering teeth. Watching them for a moment, he eventually approached, arms out for balance as he navigated the ice. Holding out a room key, he sheltered them for the night. The following months they illuminated his monotonous life with stories and lies - sprawling on the waiting chairs while Sage leaned over the front desk, eating up every word. Sage felt connected to their abstract way of living, and admired their eternal devotion to one another.

Over time, the couple became a regular presence, teaching Sage traditional crafts like carving and sculpting. They taught him to appreciate a carefree lifestyle and approach, taking him on road trips and introducing him to nefarious pastimes. Similarly, they encouraged him to approach his limitations in a positive light. It forces him to slow down and enjoy the peaceful moments in life. With this, he also found his chosen family - hemp wearing street wanderers who lived each day on the fly. Old enough at this point to make his own decisions, he left his hometown to attend a renowned art school, and is excited for the opportunities that lie before him.

He has a keen sense of direction and can make the most out of difficult situations.

INDOLENT - Sage takes his time with tasks and refuses to rush or cut corners. When he gets focused on a project, it requires endless urging to break him away. He wants to do everything right the first time, and can’t leave things half-done. He’s methodical and seemingly unaware of urgency or pressure. He bobs through life like he’s unaffected by the storm. This makes him read as sleepy - existing in a dreamlike state. Sage listens to jazz religiously and seems trapped two speeds behind everyone else.

LIGHT MINDED - Aside from plan making and navigating, Sage has a difficult time acknowledging the seriousness of a situation. He avoids confrontation like the plague and would rather laugh about something than yell about it.

CURIOUS - Being limited in his physical abilities, Sage often experiences events through secondhand stories. Quick to ask questions, he’s often seen leaning into a conversation with budding captivation- eyes wide. If he asks about your day, he’s asking from a place of genuine curiosity. Sage constantly pictures his life as someone else, disassociating while he’s counting the till or walking home.

SUPPORTIVE - This curious quality lends itself to a need to contribute and support those around him. Often, people feel uncomfortable at the lengths he’s willing to go to help them. He wants to feel like he’s contributing, and is sensitive to being left out or behind.

MENTAL HEALTH Looking in from the outside, his mental health is pretty solid. A closer look reveals his aptness to be tardy and mildly to severely stoned. He can be forgetful and dissociative as a result.
ATTIRE: Soft, organic materials, muted tones. Often mismatched and seemingly thoughtless.
SCARS/MARKINGS: Sage has some light scarring across his body from the frostbite, but it's hardly noticeable unless you look for it (which he does).

Rowan Ingram
607338
607339

Writer, poet, storyteller.
20, Libra, October 4th.
Gender //
Male
Sexuality // Homosexual (closeted)

Mental and emotional // Rowan has always had to fight for peace of mind. Growing up an only child in a tumultuous home has impacted his ability to maintain his calm. He was diagnosed with clinical depression in his teen years, but has always been treated and he believes he is coping well. With writing as an outlet, and all of his free time spent practicing, he has learned to live a life through words that helps him to escape the disarray of reality. That said, however, Rowan uses his escapism perhaps too often, and has trouble dealing with reality.
Personality // Rowan is a dreamer, lacking in the ability to be logical and matter of fact. Throughout his life he has been scolded for always having his head in the clouds, taking too many risks without calculating the odds. He stood out among his peers for his imagination that he always allowed to run rampant and his heedless approach to most situations. While he was always particularly good at making friends, he had trouble maintaining the relationships he made due to his whirlwind emotions as a young teenager and inability to always read other people correctly. Not that Rowan was selfish, but social skills were never his strong suit, as the people he preferred were almost always fictional. Rowan is charmingly curious and introspective, and can be extremely eloquent when conversing with people he is comfortable around. Unfortunately, Rowan always feels like and acts like he is in a rush to get somewhere, to achieve something, because of his underlying fear that he is not moving forward in this life, or at least that he is ten steps behind everyone else. This causes him to often be unorganized and disheveled, making him nearly impossible to cooperate with. Even though he is a very loyal and friendly person, he comes off as awfully fickle because when he is not holding a pen, he cannot seem to handle stressful situations with any certainty.

Backstory // Rowan was born in Metairie, Louisiana. Located just outside of New Orleans and right by an airport, it never had a shortage of people coming to and from the city, and being so close to Nola meant the culture bled right into where Rowan grew up. Beautiful colors, sights, and sounds, and a large array of interesting characters have always been a staple in Rowan's life, and have been the source of most of his inspiration.

Unfortunately, life has not always been fun or inspiring for the young dreamer, his parents separated when he was still in middle school and he lost track of his business man father throughout the years. Without the financial support from his father's full time job, his mother was unable to maintain their comfortable lifestyle on her own, and succumbed eventually to usage of substances and fleeting half-relationships with Metairie's worst addicts and criminals. Rowan, being young and naive, had a difficult time coming to terms with a less than comfortable lifestyle and eventually the hardships of living in considerable poverty.

He never gave up on his passion, Rowan had been writing since the age of ten and had continued to practice every day. His grades in school were exceptional, proving his dedication to his education and his craft, but his social life was slightly lacking. He had friends, but they were hard to keep once he reached high school because he began working part time hours at an antique shop near the city, this became an instant source of inspiration for him. The strange things that came in and out of those doors all had an unknown history that Rowan was free to fabricate. Everything had a story, every person had a story. It was the escape he always dreamed of, away from tumultuous home life, away from the constant moving his mother put him through.

So his high school years were spent behind the counter of an antique shop, writing poems and short stories, trying to forget the world at large while also being angry at it. He tried not to submerge himself totally in his self pity, but he often wondered what he had done to deserve the life that had become his reality. His mother had been, in the past, a good mother and a wonderful person. She had become a ghost, a skeleton of what he once new. His ever-changing step fathers were laughable mockeries of what a dad should be. His family had fallen apart, and he had nothing but books and school and work to fill his days with some form of meaning.

After years of submitting to poetry contests, attempting to get published, and endless hard work, Rowan was invited to Angelwood. It was the life changing miracle he had been praying for.

Other // Rowan loves breakfast food and coffee, has a tendency to go to 24 hour diners in the middle of the night for brain food and writing.
He hates when people mumble or being interrupted.
He is prone to fidgeting with his hands or nearby objects.

He has a normal class schedule, being in class from about 7:30-4:00 most days, but fills his free time with either searching for inspiration to write about, or actually writing.

A lot of her primary responses are to react in anger, in impatience, followed by self imposed isolation. She feels stress and regret very keenly, from all aspects of her life, but she has never really learned how to confront those problems and people, and as a result has some rather unimpressive and at times ineffective coping mechanisms.[/div]
[div class=tag]PERSONALITY[/div] [div style="font-family:'Karla'; font-size: 12px; letter-spacing: 3px; text-transform: uppercase;"]"I, alone, am enough." was a conclusion that Alex came to, a singular truth that propelled her to heights never before reached. She is someone who is very quick to anger, quick to jump to jump to the worst conclusions, and absolutely a terribly judgmental person, she is no doubt someone who fearlessly names and shames the incompetent, or those who disrespect the craft of arts. All of these horrible qualities accumulates into someone who is all too arrogant, too aggressive, and even too poisonous at times. And yet, without a shred of a doubt, there is absolutely no one who may love, or be as passionate as she can ever be.

Fortunately, she isn't a complete monster. As someone who has said and done many things in fits of anger, she is well acquainted with apologies. It might take a while, but she will hold herself accountable if she was wrong in directing her ire at you. She has a deep respect for those who are serious, who strive for a clear goal. She can be downright friendly and pleasant like any normal person, but she will always hold herself back - because it would be such a pain to have to start awkwardly declining lunch invitations with people, you know? [/div]

[div class=tag]BACKGROUND[/div] [div style="font-family:'Karla'; font-size: 12px; letter-spacing: 3px; text-transform: uppercase;"]As a child, Alex had a focus that was a little concerning - because it was nonexistent, that is. Then, other times, her mother found that she was able to dedicate possibly a little too much attention to particular tasks. Sadly, her mother would not place her into sports - it was unladylike, she claimed - and instead tried to place her into piano lessons. Her instructor at the time often included guitar sessions, and singing for the small chlid-Alex, and eventually she could make the conscious decision to pursue and dedicate her time equally into all three arts.

When high school came around, Alex was understandably eager to join the clubs that would take her and make use of her talent. For the first two years, it was enough to satisfy her. When third year came around, she had been rather unimpressed and disappointed with ... just about everything. Until a transfer student joined. Her name was Diana, and in her, Alex found someone she could call a best friend. The two were equally passionate, equally trained, and fit well with one another. The two would go on to find chorus battles to join, creating online personas to join an even larger community to hone themselves to something more.

After winning summer and winter chorus battles, and some regional competitions with their school, their dynamic had changed. All of a sudden, Diana wasn't exactly too enthusiastic about spending time after school, often dipping out early, with some shoddy reasons. Even though her social medias were certainly well alive and active. It took a few weeks, but Alex discovered that her friend had found herself a boyfriend. She just had no idea why Diana had been trying to keep that from her - a lot of doubt, a lot of ugly thoughts reared into her head at that. Between being left aside, and even uninformed of her friend's life was a little too much and gave rise to "The Rogue."

For the next competitions, online, in person, and otherwise, Alex always elected to go alone, or at least apply for smaller groups, even if they preferred older applicants. She was lonely, and made an effort to join other social cliques, other people to talk with, but none of them could simulate her mind. It was as if she was a child again, and unable to focus. This left her with all the time in the world to polish everything she had at hand, and even try out new things - mixing, tuning, hell the drums looked mighty fine too.

In the end, both would end up competing in a venue where, rumor had it, a scouter from Angelwood would be present. Alex had taken one glance at Diana, and seethed off when her own name was called- "Why do you still hold onto the boy? Do you honestly need a crutch at this point in your life already?" she had thought. Yet, for all her anger, she couldn't find it in herself to walk away, to turn away from Diana's performance. It was an absolutely disappointment. And yet ...

"How did she still find it in herself to smile that day?"

Elle Bailey
1565198414182.png

Pianist, songwriter.
21, Cancer, July 18.
Gender //
Female
Sexuality // Heterosexual

Mental and emotional // Elle is considered very normal, very stable. Her strong willed personality and charisma have fooled the masses into believing that she has it all together. In truth, Elle has always kept her real thoughts and feelings from the world, hiding behind upbeat songwriting and some success in her music career. Her unhappiness with her trade doesn't come from total lack of passion, but from boredom with the happy go lucky writing style that is expected of her.

Personality // Elle struggles with expressing her true self, that much is certain. She is opinionated and argumentative, but she is never trying to come off as rude or aggressive. It happens without her realizing it, and when it does she always finds herself wishing she could take back words said too quickly and actions that were not well thought out. Having put up a front for most of her life, Elle feels weighed down by the need to be constantly kind and charming, and is developing a tendency to be rebellious. Acting out against the wishes of authority and even her own better judgement, Elle has found herself in more and more ridiculous and sometimes dangerous situations. In trying to be less self-critical, it is obvious that she is also losing a certain amount of her self respect, getting lost in white lies she thinks make her more interesting and uncharacteristic risks to feel inspired again. All of this is of course due to her immense displeasure with where she is in life, because at the core Elle is still a very genuine individual with a big heart. Expressing that in the midst of what she can only refer to as an identity crisis however, has become next to impossible. She is a young woman with big dreams of finding herself, it's just that she doesn't really know where to look.

Backstory // Elle's life has been all of the same things on repeat for too long now. She was the first child of very successful and wealthy parents, and she grew up with three younger siblings in a beautiful neighborhood just outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

Elle's younger sisters were all very close, but she was five years old before the second sister was ever born and she has always felt more like their caretaker. The others being closer in age all had similar interests and common ground. Elle was alone with her problems, not having a close-in-age sibling to share her world with, not having very many friends due to a strict schedule of studying and practicing. She began playing piano when she was six, and while she became very skilled and appreciated by her instructor, she was not sure she ever truly loved it. Elle composed several songs while in high school, and though she was an exceptional singer she always preferred to let other people sing while she played piano. It was not long before her name was very well known by her entire school as she often performed for plays and her parents' parties with their colleagues. Elle was a local celebrity, and even participated in a few gigs in Nashville.

Everyone loved her for her positive messages and uplifting music, but something inside of Elle was not content. She attempted to branch out during her senior year and explore a darker side of her songwriting, try to better understand the depths of her own feelings and personality, but her parents, other adults, and her close friends shot her down. She was told that was not who she was. They told Elle that the girl they knew and loved always wore a smile and made people feel good about themselves through her art, and that if she changed no one would like it anymore.

Elle did not feel that she had a choice in coming to the academy, she was invited and she felt her parents forced her to accept. To this day, her family is intent on her being a superstar singer-songwriter with bright, colorful music to bring into the world. Elle wants to either finally do things her own way, or give up entirely, and under the amount of stress she is currently experiencing, giving up music entirely seems the easier solution.

Other // Elle loves the rain and studying astrology, and she spends a lot of her free time walking and exploring.
She hates to be crowded or having to answer a lot of questions at once.

Music // Soon
