Kotlinsky, the Commandant

Well, it looks like he wasn’t the only one here who was wondering about such… taking a glance towards the strangely clothed man nearby with the strange speech pattern. Honestly, he was moreso expecting no one else (so far that hasn’t gone into the portal) to merely disregard such a thing, and continue on in a mindless ‘heroic’ bliss in order to save the entire universe… a responsibility that requires far more than merely having bravery and strength to face a threat, especially if these foes are Eldritch abominations… ones that may be unknown by even him. But it looks like one other individual had the mind to question things before mindlessly charging into the portal, even if it needed Kotlinsky to place the most logical thought into the conversation. Hmph, if these are the type of people he may have to lead, then he will have hard times ahead if they couldn’t adapt to it.

And now, came the answer from the old man. And what came out of his mouth… was… less than satisfactory. At the very least, his first question of why these ‘Gods’ haven’t made the attempt at returning to the fray in order to combat such a threat, their descendants missing from the fray, and not being able to rely on even the divine for safety. As if he would even pray to those in the first place, if the only one he knew, which was his ‘Creator’ lying dormant within his original home was an example of such a thing, he much rather stay as far as possible from the path of the divine than to fall into madness and fanaticalism serving under them. But, the rest of the answer did not tell him everything, the Old individual having to leave in order to distract these Cthulhu, but he did note the relating to the high chance of them being noticed. It’s to be expected, after all, they were going against his awakening, and surely, he would have notice them sooner or later within their ‘Journey’. But trust alone can be a fickle thing, and he still had his suspicions upon the matter.

No matter, it appears his apprentice, Nadia, will be providing him with the information he requires. And after seeing the same man from earlier who agreed with him, struggle a bit of whether or not to leave home or to enter the portal before eventually going with the latter, he then turned to face the apprentice that had acknowledged him. Hmm, well, no wonder the man was acting as such, too dramatic for his own good. But the possible idea did interest him, and when asked about aiding them in their efforts, as much as he would like to see them struggle in a attempt at fighting against a threat that is far beyond their mortal understanding and fight beasts that would make even the most sane of men claw at their eyes in terror of such a sight, he had a goal, and that’s to fight.

“I will aid in your efforts the very Eldritch threat that threatens the entire universe… although, do expect me to take charge as the leading officer for the group. A mind capable of tactics as well as both not only knowledge of fighting the Eldritch beasts and their cultists, but even fighting a Eldritch God myself with but only three others, it’s best if I provide my aid in the matter in the form of commanding. I do, only hope that those… ‘reckless’ individuals are capable of listening to a few commands that prove vital to our efforts.”

And with those words, he had entered the portal-

Being the last one to exit the portal, as like his own entrance to the inn, he was the last to experience what was occurring around him. It was… cold, not the uncomfortable kind, but a familiar kind of cold. Reminds him of the times he fought upon the battlefield during the winter months. Thankfully, both his own naturally resilience to such weather along with wearing a coat himself had staved off the feeling of cold of his body. Although, he did went and retrieved a torch nearby from the rack (as well as non-verbally rejecting the coat handed out to him), he went ahead and stored it within his inventory, for safe keeping if need be. He already had a couple other torches within it, but an extra wouldn’t hurt. Taking a glance around as well as his… ‘allies’, he may as well perform a speech in order to increase their moral. After all, a happy ‘soldier’ is a competent one than a sad one. And he certainly didn’t want to resort to executing a few ‘hopeless’ individuals and use fear instead of hope as a morale tool. Giving a small ahem, the man said out loud in a commanding voice

“Allies!”

He waited a couple of seconds to see the faces that may have turned towards him, expecting something from the Commandant who had spoken out loud for others to hear. From there, the Officer placed his arms behind his back, beginning to move back and forth between two imaginary points on the ground, and had continued with.

“My name is Kotlinsky… Commandant of the Iron Battalion of the Germanic forces from my home world. And I’ve come to you all with something that we all share in common…. we all can from differing backgrounds and worlds, having experiences that some others here would have never thought of before. Maybe you were a valiant soldier back in the forces of your home nation’s military back home, having fought in a thousand battles and many more to come, lending your aid in order to support your very nation and people in their time of need. Perhaps you may have been a bounty hunter, going after the greatest of bounties in order to cleanse the world of what is evil and wrong. Perhaps you may have been a magician… talented in the arts of the arcane and the unknown. But we all share something, and that is what we are fighting for.”

Stopping for a second, and looking around once more for reactions, wondering how have his words been affecting them so far, and continued with.

“We are fighting for the very fate of the Universe itself. No matter how different we may be, all of our end goals result in making sure the very universe itself doesn’t get consumed by this Eldritch God and it’s abominations. I have experience with fighting such a threat along with others, and I feel all of you will learn to do the same as well. But that’s only if we can work together to fight as one united force within our darkest hours. I am not saying that you must get along with everyone, but I expect teamwork and a sense of aiding each other when the time calls for it. I won’t deny, many of us will be surprised by what lies for us ahead, some of us, haven’t even heard of what an ‘Eldritch’ creature is. But worry not, with my experience fighting against such creatures in my past, as well as my leading words and knowledge of tactics as a Officer who had lead many successful battles and soldiers in the wars I have participated within in the past… we will be able to fight this threat! I only ask for your cooperation as well as hope, hope to beat such a threat no matter what, in return… and with it, we will defeat this ‘Cthulhu’, we will defeat it and it’s foolish cultist, and we will defend the very worlds that rely on us from the clutches of its hands!”

The Commandant finished, now awaiting the response from the very individuals around him. Ugh, saying those words and essentially lying to them instead of saying the ugly truth was… sickening to him, but he would much rather deal with this now than having the very group itself fight amongst themselves as if they were mere animals. Hope is a powerful tool after all, say some convincing words and make sure to intend that goal… and you got yourself an loyal army that will follow you to hell and back.

Godzilla took a moment to register the smell he recieved. It was quite a familiar smell, Oceanic, Female, Multi-Arms. It was similar to that of the creature he saved from a strange cave a while back. He turned to find an odd creature, somewhat similar in height to the other creatures. She said something about himself, and that provoked him into asking her a question.

"Do I know you?"
Another creature in crimson armor spoke up about something and gave a speach, but he ignored him. Instead, he heard the female speak as if the group was going into a losing battle. That was when a small black round ball rolled towards herat a high speed. Godzilla intercepted the ball and lifted Shadow into the air, holding him there to keep him from moving. "You realize it is rude to attack a woman who isn't causing any trouble?" He asked the upstart rodent.

Power, some men crave it. Some fight tooth and nail for it. Never understanding the struggle for it only leads it to slip through your fingers. Power always finds its way to me..and always as it’s most needed.

Before the Helghast Commander knew what was going on, he landed on his feet, just inches from a portal leading to hell knows where but his stealth and teleport wasn’t working so he didn’t have his usual advantage.

That’s when his glowing eyes stared around the darkness with nobody there but a strange man in a coat, red and blackish.

Seconds later, Mael caught the portal as it hopefully didn’t close yet.

Portal to the Cave

The Colonel’s approach was rather sudden as he chose to stay back and observe from a distance. The others so far seemed to be reaching for a fur coat and torch.

He took the coat, ignoring the brisk chill of wartime both on the enemy’s homeworld, Vekta and Helghan itself in the often harsh winters.

The Helghan would take the offer but would use the tools when needed.

The man he observed before was giving a “wartime speech” or a “peptalk.” Either worked for a time like this.

With a sound of his rebreather, Radec lightly growled in light British.

From relentless battles between the ISA, to relentless battles against a brief skeleton foe, this new “magic threat” suddenly chose him from his world for the job.

Radec simply crossed his arms and simply took time to read the other soldier’s voices at the moment.

“Soldier? Yes… My name is Colonel Radec, from Helghan..

He took breaths through his rebreather..

He seemed to be listening and observing this man’s speech from the back.

The poor magician was being bombarded with questions, comments, and concerns from people barging through the portal. What really caught Bayonetta’s eye was a man in uniform with a bucket helmet. She dared not lift it up; some of these humans harbor ugly secrets. Uglier yet was the lecture he was giving. For someone with such experience battling a god, he struck her as one in desperate need of help. How typical of humans...

———

The cold and conversation assaulted Bayonetta’s senses upon exiting the portal. She laid eyes on the apprentice girl handing out coats. Even if she did need one, they weren’t quite her style. After stepping past the crowd, the cocktail dress began to unravel until Bayonetta was enveloped in almost eight feet of lustrous hair. The raven locks quickly pulled back together until a snug, leathery outfit took form. During the process, she produced two strawberry-colored handguns and threw them. With a dance like flourish, she let the pistols dive into their rightful place behind her heels. She then whipped out two more identical weapons, completing the four-gun set, the Scarborough Fair.

During her little show, a fight broke out between the Cthulhu-like girl and the grouchy cartoon character, who was in the grasp of a miniaturized kaiju. Bayonetta sashayed over, snapping her fingers to get their attention. “I can safely say by now, I dislike playing mummy dearest, but the ultimate life-form is being the ultimate child and asking for the ultimate spanking.” She didn’t sound impressed with the big talk and hotheaded attitude. Rather, it bored her.

Well… the Commandant would have continued watching for the other’s reactions, if it weren’t for a particular voice that had called out… doubting his claims of such a goal (even though he didn’t even truly mean it in the first place, after all, it was to motivate others with hope) as well as saying something else that certainly caught his attention. And that was the mentioning of the fact that there was more than one of these things, if the saying of defeat a Cthulhu, which meant there was more than one of these things out here. Well, it looks like the very strings of fate were quickly unraveling itself in front of him… showing more and more needed information to him. If there was more than one of them, then surely another would have been killed within another world. Either that, or this girl knows nothing of what she speaks of.

Honestly, getting mad should be the last things he should do here… even though said sentence did nothing to impact his emotions as well. He must maintain his facade and lie of an stalwart and brave Officer in order to ensure they shall be following under his footsteps in the future and listen to his every command, as well as look up to him for aid. His goal wasn’t that of taking over the world or anything, but temporarily, he needed to ensure that the others wouldn’t be distracted from their goal in the future, as well as stop them from doing anything stupid that would negatively impact the group as whole. Except, he may have said that a bit too soon… as a glance to the side would reveal, some ‘Ultimate Life form’ or whatever the damn creature called itself, curling up into a ball and attempting to spin into the very woman he was about to reply to.

Fools… the lot of them. Acting merely on impulse alone and being angered by a couple of words instead of holding one’s anger. He may as well execute the damned abomination right here and now, but, he managed to collect himself and very well stop himself from suffering the same fate. Luckily, he didn’t have to intervene within such, as the Lizardman called “Godzilla” by the very same woman (ugh… yet another individual who include the name god in it) had stopped the rodent and kept them into the air, while also belittling them as a mother would a child if they had accidentally broken a vase. Doing the job for him… heh, good for him. A few more sentences that he honestly gave little care for now, he turned to face the woman once more and responded with.

“Excusing the rather abrupt interruption we had from one of our own… I shall answer your question. My experience with the Eldritch abominations is far more than what any normal individual should even know. I both know as well as fought many creatures that fit this description… ranging from an infectious fungi like parasite that attempts to spread its ‘disease’ around, to a creature known as the Shambler, a large horrid beast capable of warping the very space around it and being any sane man to insanity in mere seconds. Any normal man would have simply died before they could even inflict a minor wound upon these creatures, much less, kill one. Yet, all it took was me along with three others to slay these beasts. You wonder why? We have far more capability than the average man… killing a hundred, a thousand, perhaps, even tens of thousands of these creatures with my team alone. I have even fought what others would call a Eldritch God, a being that goes of the name of the ‘Heart of Darkness’, the same creature that had created the entire Earth and its inhabitants with its mere presence. That being thought of us as mere mortals, individuals that couldn’t even begin to learn of the very fraction of its true existence… yet, not only was I capable of seeing its true form without being driven mad, but I was even able of wounding such a creature as well. A hard fought battle that resulted in the death of two others… but in the end, the God has been slained, executed by the very creations that it had willed into existence. How many you know that have performed such a feat? None or very little from what I can tell. If this Cthulhu is like any other I’ve had fought before, even if it had a status of a so called ‘God’, in reality, we are all mortal… for death cares little about who we are, only that our death has been predetermined. But, nonetheless, hopefully we shall be working well in the future even if you have doubts about my claims, it’s far easier to show the truth in action than with mere words alone. All I need is a bit of trust between the both of us so that we know we can rely upon each other if the time calls”

Ugh… Keeping up this facade was harder than it looks. Far easier to have merely put someone into the place, although, technically he was doing this now, but, he was asking in a ‘nice’ manner (even though his voice remained neutral and unchanging throughout) if he can rely upon them for aid in the future.

Well… what a time to be alive. Especially with this new piece of information about the very person he was speaking to belonged to the label of the most hated creatures that exist within his very world. He was disgusted to hear of this… yet, hadn’t shown this with his outside body language. To know that this very individual in front of him was one of those things that had made humanity’s life very much a living hell was unexpected, but… he had worked with one individual before, albeit, one who was moreso possessed by one than actual being a creature that belongs within that trait, but, nonetheless, he had managed to put away his disgust to recall the true goal here, which was an ally to rely upon. Only giving a small cough, he said in response.

“Well then… I suppose I am sorry for…. speaking of your ‘people’ in that way, but from my experiences and information, the ones of my home deserved the very right to be called abominations of nature itself. I suppose things may be different from another world’s perspective, and I do hope that this wouldn’t hurt our comradeship when working together upon the field of battle. I will however… stop calling them as such, but, nonetheless, you know what I had meant throughout that sentence I’ve said earlier.”

He finished, now, focusing on something else away from interacting with others. The other individual, the lizardman spoke of his name again… an ‘Alpha’ of his world, but what interested him was the very thought of other realities. Hmm… maybe he should look more into it in the future.

Though the cave echoed with voices, there was no inkling of life anywhere beyond. One travelling through the tundra at night may expect to see trees, grass, or even fauna foraging for prey. No such organisms appeared to exist here. It was as though something had razed the suface of the planet bare, only for rock and ice to remain. Apart from the howling wind, it was a silent world.

From inside the cave, Nadia let out a sigh of relief as her hand brushed a wicker lid protuding from the rocky floor. Removing it revealed rations of food and jugs of ice, the latter of which Nadia scooted towards the fire. "There's canteens in the coats. You all drink water... right?" At this point Nadia wasn't sure, but she handed out food to those that needed it, namely the Templar knight and the sea creature girl. "It's mostly dried meat that I brought over. Food on this world is— well, there isn't any." She stood. "We should really get moving."

1631792929773.png Tatsu squinted at the piece dried meat the apprentice girl handed out.
"Huh, you call this food? Nah, I don't know where you get off trying to move product like this." Snatching the rations and reaching into his suit jacket, Tatsu inexplicably produced a bottle of soy sauce and a packet of chilli flakes. "Now me? I always stay strapped." On a flat rock, Tatsu laid out the slabs of meat, drizzling on the soy sauce and adding pinches of chilli flakes. "You eat dry meat in cold weather? It'll just dehyrdate ya. But when you come blasting with the flavour..." He held up the finished product triumphantly "You'll feel a burst of energy only the good stuff'll give ya."

Nadia blinked. She didn't know whether or not to say she didn't like spicy food, so she just kept handing them out before continuing.
"There's a piece of Cthulhu in this world — deep underground, but part of it comes up to the suface every now and then. I'm usually long gone when that happens, though I guess we'll have to face him this time." She pointed out the mouth of the cave, to the jagged mountain in the distance. The aurora gleamed. "The page is in there. Cthulhu's mass is kind of... attracted to it, like a magnet. We might have to dig through parts of him to get to it, which he probably won't like." She shuddered. "If you're ready, follow me. Tread carefully, he may be listening." After reassuring herself, Nadia stepped out of the mouth of the cave and into the raging winds. Snow picked up, but visibility was still fair.

You can follow Nadia out of the cave towards the mountain.

‘Damn, I need a cup of coffee...’

The freezing temperatures were more than enough motivation for Frank to take a fur coat and some rations. His eyebrow cocked in mild disbelief as Tatsu began doctoring the jerky. If this was the man’s idea of ‘coming strapped’, then this was going to be a hell-ride. “Did you at least come strapped with a weapon, Wolfgang Puck?” he questioned.

After a quick bite to eat, the vigilante was ready to go. He poked his head out of the cave. As Nadia had mentioned, the place was a barren wasteland. Frank shimmied out of the cave, expecting the inevitable fight; it was just a matter of when.

It was cold... not more than the train when Gentiana revealed herself as Shiva, but instead, more of the whole land being cold though. Gladly taking the resources given out, he'd listen to Nadia's explanation. "So then we should be off soon huh?" He then hung back for a minute. He wanted to enjoy a good meal similar to the one the sunglasses guy had made. Perhaps his cooking would be similar to Ignis's. "Say, mind if I have some like yours?"

1631801389935.png Raising a finger at the blue soldier, Tatsu barked, "What good's a weapon if the man holdin' it has no will to fight? What ya put in your stomach is the fuel that drives the body — and ya can't go disrespectin' your body like that." Pulling a fur coat over his suit jacket, Tatsu stood from where he had been kneeling. "This guy gets it." Tatsu grinned at the sword guy. "Here," He handed over the seasoned meat. "It ain't no foie gras but it'll keep ya going."

The moment he stepped out of the cave, Tatsu was hit by a cold blast of wind. He couldn't see a damn thing, probably because of his sunglasses. He kept them on anyway. "Kind of a hike, huh?" He eyed the barren landscape between them and that mountain. "Bet you could hide all kinds of stuff out here that the cops would never find."

Status: Cold, yet healthy

Unsatisfied with the old man's words, no point in asking any further questions. A sigh left her breath in the observance of one trying to attempt to leave the bar against the old man's will. She gulps in front of the gate presented towards them. Her own two feet lead her into the portal unsure of what lies ahead.

The frost pierced her skin as she instantaneously warps into the new world whilst follow the rest. Unlike others, she had to find warmth as soon as possible with every breeze blowing in the air. Quickly, she was provided a fur coat and additional torches. Taking only a pair of torches as her carrying capacity is occupied by her quiver behind her back. The coat's design nurtures the wearer yet each exhales still reminds the cold presence. It was a decent coat at best it did not clash with her blouse and long skirt, fashion is hardly an issue now that she is now off to an unexpected mission with complete strangers in the middle of the cold dark cave.

A particular figure popularized himself among the party. The lack of a face only reinforces his authority. She failed to notice this character before. His speech began and her first impression of the man was the confidence and the mystery to his appearance. She could have mistaken this man as a knight of some sort from another kingdom in her homeworld.

Across the many faces they gathered the attention of, he would find her staring right back at him with a tilted head. A deadpan stare, nothing more. Tagged along with closer to the main guide, Nadia. She stands close to the magician's area. Some would like to venture off on their own which cause a small commotion on the other side that she simply ignored. One would notice the entire time, she stands still, idle. Awaiting the next move which didn't take long as Nadia announced to move towards the mountains to move closer to the objective. Much like the rest she followed also although, positioned behind the magician and in more the back lines.
