"I fucked up"/"I'm rad as fuck"

The sun was high in the sky. One of the few days it wasnโ€™t overcast with dreary clouds and a heaviness Briar had gotten used to since moving to Forks as a kid. After finishing a hike, this was the best place to be. The beach was empty, except for a few lingering bodies and screeching gulls. And then there was Briar, sitting on a board waiting to catch some waves. Just a blue-topped speck out on the water in a white bathing suit.

Briar caught a few good ones, and rode a few weak ones until they disappeared back under the surface. The itch for another one was becoming unbearable. Itโ€™s what she was out here to do, and the wind was barely being generous. A few times she thought about using an incantation to bring out the more ferocious winds to kick up some monster waves, but patience, she was taught, was a virtue. Today it was not. Briar was growing impatient.

Briar casted a few looks behind her, not as nervous as she was excited, before she began to speak a dead language. The words rolled off her tongue that had honed the language's twists and turns a year ago. In preparation, Briar paddled forward, and finished the incantation on her belly, with a flourish of her hands. On command, the wind burst to life and she kept pace. A moment later, and a wave began to grow and grow, and she rose to catch it.

Slender form dipping and bracing. The wave tunneled over her as she pushed forward, and it quickly became apparent thatโ€”

A yelp exploded out of her the moment before she was encompassed by the water, and tossed beneath the waves. She churned with the water, rag-dolling for a moment. Something thumped against her leg and stung. Arms reached for the sun-speckled surface and she kicked to reach it. She breached the surface and inhaled the briny air deeply, gratefully, and looked around for her board. It was nearby, thank the gods, and she grabbed it and paddled back to shore on it, nursing a stinging leg.

โ€œMother fucker.โ€

A magnificent wipeout for a magnificent wave. Guess she got what she asked for.

She climbed off of the board, bouncing on one legโ€”with the other currently oozing blood from a gashโ€”and turned to look at the ocean, as if waiting to see another ferocious wave now that she was out of the water. There was a grin on her face, in spite of her injury, and it only grew when a calm ocean answered her. The wind died down, giving one final gust. It's phantom fingers dragged lovingly through her short locks, before disappearing.

It took a specific brand of lame to choose to spend the day at La Push beach when the weather was perfect for cliff diving. The cliffs offered a day of freedom, privacy, the violent chill of the rough water, a perpetual rush. A day at the beach offered a chance for all members of the attending sausage party to be excused for their typical state of undress while they chased around any even somewhat attractive single mom or unhappily married older woman they could find. It was a trade off from hell, an easy no-brainer, and yet when the forecast had been noted, Natalia had been out-voted. Typical.

With narrowed eyes peering through her aviator sunglasses as she stepped out of her car, assessing the sparsely populated beach, she huffed in unison with the sound of the passenger door shutting.
"Theyโ€™re late."

"Does that really surprise you?" Her eyes were quick to land on the source of the words, falling upon a taller man who appeared about a decade her senior, before scanning the beach again. "They'll be here soon. James probably overslept, or Kellan-" Natalia scoffed at the mentioned name, a hand rummaging blindly through her bag as the coastal wind whipped at her long dark locks.

"If Kellan tries to get it on with an abuelita again Iโ€™m fucking out,"
she informed the man, nodding towards the beach, where among the few bodies were three aging women mingling amongst themselves as they lounged in their chairs.

"I don't know, she's not bad." Without looking, Natalia could only imagine he was motioning towards one of them.

Probably the middle one, she quickly decided. Still, she made a face.
"That asshole fucking wishes."

Her brows furrowed as her hand still rummaged through her bag, but she gave a decisive nod.
"He couldn't pull that on his best day."
Aha. Her features lightened a bit as her fingers finally clasped a small baggy, pulling it from her bag as she tossed her car keys in its place. Without hesitation, she opened the bag, taking a bite in to a chocolate covered cheesecake bite. Better to eat them before they melt, a concern rarely with the current potential to be realized in the area, but an excuse she was happy to use.

The sight earned a chuckle from her companion. "Even to the beach, Nat?"

she hummed in response as the decadent treat melted smoothly in her mouth. The brunette chewed slowly as she watched the shore, her lean frame pressing against the car.
"You know, we should probablyโ€ฆ"
she began, her voice trailing off as she caught sight of something that grabbed her attention. A blue haired woman in the distance, by far the furthest of the predictable few bodies out in the water. Absently taking another slow bite of the treat in her hand, Natalia's gaze stayed trained on her as the woman rose higher on her board on a wave unlike any of the others around. Lucky timing. Then, as soon as she had spotted her, the girl disappeared beneath the surface, wiping out in such spectacular fashion that her spectator couldn't help but smirk.

Still, she watched the surface, almost oddly vindicated when a head popped back up. She was fine, it was....Oh, shit. Her brows raised over the frames of her sunglasses as the woman made it back to shore- not for the clearer sight of the figure clothed by a white bikini, which she certainly noticed- but rather the sight of her bouncing on one leg, blood oozing from the other.
"I'll be back, I'm just gonna..."
she nodded in the general direction to her companion before setting off, sealing the baggy she had been snacking from as she walked, fingers tapping against the light fabric of her black sundress as she made her way to the beach. The girl was facing the water, and Natalia's eyes dipped down to the girl's injury again as she drew nearer. That didn't look...but damn, something smelled good.

Was that her, over the salt and thick air? No, it couldn't have been, no one smelled that good, no perfume that resilient or natural. It was all but intoxicating, but Natalia struggled to push the thought from her mind as she neared, the smell only growing stronger and more defined. Her eyes raised from the leg to short blue hair.
"Hey...you good?"

"hhhhh pretty lady"
a white bikini

Briar sent a swift yet warm thank you to the winds and another laugh left her before it turned to a pained hiss when she tried to stand on both legs. Briar wobbled a bit before finding an equilibrium, turning as a voice startled her. The turn was less than graceful, but it got her there.

Her eyes found the strangerโ€™s, and her brilliant expression only intensified until its fervor was akin to sunlight. โ€œOh yeah, this sortaโ€ฆ happens.โ€ Briar laughed, snorting a bit as she tousled her own hair until it escaped her vision. โ€œNot my best look, gotta say.โ€ She needed to sit down at her spot and deal with her injury, but who could walk away from a stranger so pretty? Briar wished she could pull black off like that.

The way the sun hit her savior, and the way wind caused the dress to billow and sway struck Briar in the same chord as the great poets wrote and sang. Words poured into her mind in generous amounts. All honey-dipped and sun-speckled, and she sent a quick prayer to the god Apollo to ensure that she remembered each stanza.

Briar blinked and the urge to run to her stuff became insurmountable and yet she stayed. And wobbled uselessly. As weak as a newborn fawn. โ€œI uh, donโ€™t mean to be a bother, but could you give me a hand?โ€ Briarโ€™s smile was sheepish and she did her best to reach down and grab her board. It took a second, but she was ready to move after finding her balance again.
