Altarani Lost Fleets

Death Korps of Krieg

Keeper of the Ruins
Official Name: The Lost Fleets of the Old Imperium

Demonym: Altaran

Group Type: A fractious group of fleets scattered throughout the galaxies that bear half of the survivors of the Fall of the ALtarani EMpire.

Leader(s): Various fleet leaders

Allegiance: Each fleet is actually to itself and for itself, but at rare occasions, two or more fleets manage to get contact with each other though this contact is always tenious and difficult.

Galaxy: All five of them (7 - 12 fleets per galaxy)

Territory: None

Influence Rank: 0

Headquarters: None

Members: 2 billion(rough estimate)

Technology Rank: 8.9 - 8.7, depending on what kind of planet a fleet comes from. Scientific facilities like Endorus are the homeworlds of more advanced fleets, while city planets and fortress worlds tend to have less advanced fleets.

FTL Travel: Time Warp and normal hyperdrives.

Time Warp: By the use of powerful energy generators, an Altarani ship warps the space time around it, causing distortions in the timespace continuum. The process turns the entire ship to pure energy and sends its atoms hurtling through space time itself. This affords the Altarani extremely high accuracy and range in their destinations, but this method is very power hungry and in turn forces a long cooldown of several hours before warping is possible once again. In addition, the process is very dangerous for organics, and is one of the main reasons most of their ships are unmanned. Those ships that are manned use normal hyperdrives.

Exceptional Technologies: The Altaran Lost Fleets have a higher level of technology than the Altaran Protectorate, and this affords them various kinds of ancient technologies inaccessible to the Protectorate. This includes:
Disruptors - Releases powerful electromagnetic ring waves that can shut down robots and tanks. (6 fleets have this)

Purifier Matrices - This allows them to build their own Purifier constructs(7 fleets have this)

Psychic Jammers - Prevents enemy psychics(and as well as their own) from using their psionics within a 500 kilometer radius from the jammer.(10 fleets have this)

Mass Recall - Motherships within one of the Lost Fleets are capable of teleporting entire fleets to their location, allowing swift escapes and surprise attacks. (30 fleets have this). Motherships accomplish masa recall by creating tears into space time(worm holes) and the entire fleet warp into the worm hole's other side. It requires very exact coordinates in order for the two sides of the wormhole to be where the mothership is in one side and the Lost Fleet in the other. It takes up so much energy that it temporarily shuts down the motherships systsms(except for life support).

Culture: Each fleet comes from a different solar system, and each of them have their unique culture. However, they are all based upon the Old Empire's Khalai culture.

The Lost Fleets live out their daily lives watching out for any signs of alien activity near them. Whenever they detect any signs of said activity, they will either immediately warp out of the area or swiftly terminate the foreigners if they are weak enough(no survivors intended). The Lost Fleets are extremely xenophobic and suspicious, to the point that they suspect each other at the extremely rare occasion that they ever have contact with each other.

Structure: Respectively, each of the Lost Fleets are led by one who is called a Fleet Leader. These persons usually used to be solar system administrators of their home systems, but at times when the administrator was killed, it is usually the highest ranking military official around that gains the position. The fleets are divided into separate sub-fleets according to homeworld, and each of these sub-fleets are led by the one who used to the planet's Praetor(aka, planetary governors). The Praetors answer to the Fleet Leader alone. The Fleet Leader is supposed to make the decisions affecting the whole fleet, such as warp locations, mining operations, and such.

Military: The Lost Fleets are considerably more advanced than the Protectorate, and thus have more destructive weaponry than the Protectorate. However, like the Protectorate, their warships, with a few exceptions, rely on mobility and shields for survivability. There are various ship classes that the Lost Fleets have that the Protectorate does not have -

Aiur Class Super Carrier - Massive carriers triple the size of the Adunir Star Crusaders. They are able to launch 12,000 fighters at a given moment, and their armor is even tougher. They are also armed with forward mounted ion batteries capable of ripping through formations of smaller ships.

Antiga Class Battleship - Huge battleships double the Star Crusader's size, they are armed with numerous kinetic cannons, anti-ship torpedoes, EMP generators, and phase disruptors. The Antiga are an ancient class built way back in the Golden Age, and there is no knowledge of how to build them at the moment. All Antigas were scattered throughout the galaxies as they were deemed so dangerous to life that they were only to be brought to life when needed. Recently, the Protectorate found asteroids that should have contained one of these battleships, but the massive cavernous holes were empty. Who took them? The LOst Fleets.

In total, it estimated that around 200,000 vessels are under the Lost Fleets's forces.

History: The Lost Fleets have their roots in the Second Intergalactic War. At that time, the Colonies and its allies fought the Intergalactic Imperial Alliance. The already declined Altaran Empire, with less than 6% of its former territory, decided to lend the Colonies its aid by using cybernetic attacks against the IIA. However, within 5 months the Keltakens found it out and destroyed Aiur and its neighbouring star systems. 70% of the entire population was slaughtered within 1 month as the Altaran forces held out on their own while civilians were being evacuated. 50% of the survivors fled to Shakuras, the adopted Shadow Templar homeworld, while the rest went their own separate ways. Many warped into Andromeda, Triangulum, and the Magellanic Clouds, while others scattered amongst the Milky Way, trying to escape their pursuers. The various Lost Fleets led their daily lives in fear and used the most advanced stealth technology available to veil their very existence. Despite it, some fleets were subsequently lost within the dark void between the galaxies, others were destroyed by pursuing Keltakens. The rest drift through space to this very day, their number uncertain, and are the fractious remains of a once mighty empire.

Goals and Hooks:

Avoid contact at all costs

Murder anyone that finds them

Ensure the survival of the Altarani as a species

Preserve their technology

Misc. Notes: The Lost Fleets are quite difficult to approach, as they either warp away on sight or try to destroy you if you are weak enough. However, if they see that some of their Altaran brethren are aboard foreign ships, they will not fire or warp away. They would then be willing to make negotiations.

How is the warping less dangerous to organics if it is done by a unmanned ship? What is the difference to the organic going through the process in that case? It would be going through the warping in any case, correct?
