Name: Agnia Callisto

Age: 22
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 153 lb.

Region of Origin:
The port city of Calinde on the island of Felonno, a small nation infamously known as the Coven of Thieves. Calinde is also the only port city of Felonno, as all other sides of the island are surrounded by sheer cliffs. This, in addition to the superior naval capabilities of the residents, makes the island nigh impenetrable by foreign naval forces. Felonno has a temperate climate with mild winters and mild summers. It rains frequently and the weather is generally gloomy and overcast.

Felonno's economy is highly dependent on piracy as the island is rocky and infertile, and thus unsuitable for agriculture. Despite the nation's wealth its from ill-begotten gains, it has relies heavily on its main trading partner, a merchant nation that sells off Felonno's goods through its black market. Felonno also has a agreement with the Horus Society: in return for the overlooking their activities, all pirates must pay an annual tribute as well as turn over all Eclipse Fruits found during their raids. This agreement is strictly reinforced by the current Triad, the three strongest and wealthiest pirate crews on the island.

Other than the reinforcement of this agreement, Felonno is largely a lawless land governed by the principles of "survival of the fittest" and "an eye for an eye". Though petty thievery is not uncommon, retribution is swiftly dealt and the unluckier ones may lose a finger or a hand if their victim is quick to anger. Revenge killing was also prevalent, but ever since the Deadeye Hounds have risen to power as one of the Triad, things have grown a bit more civilized in Calinde.

WILDLIFE AND ANIMALS
The Felonnians have limited natural resources, but the main pride and joy of their island is the darkwood shrub, a scraggly and unassuming plant that seems to grow abundantly despite its harsh environs. These plants produce hard and poisonous berries that when crushed, release fumes which induce hallucinations and temporary delirium. These berries have long been used by the islands' residents to create rudimentary chemical weapons. Some other islands prize the darkwood berry's hallucinogenic properties for recreational purposes, but Felonnians much prefer good alcohol to sniffing strange substances, so while they capitalize on its value, they themselves do not use the berry for such purposes.

The darkwood shrubs are located further inland, where the goldspinners, carnivorous spiders the size of large dogs, dwell. These creatures, while not prevalent, are encountered often enough to pose a threat. Their main diet consists of the birds that prey on the darkwood berries, but there have been known occasions when spiders have trapped and eaten humans. While these spiders are mostly brown-black in color, their names are derived from the light yet steely material of their webs which are oft used to make riggings, nets, and grappling lines for the most prestigious of pirate crews.

SOCIETY AND CULTURE
There aren't clear gender roles set in Felonnian society. Historically, Felonno was founded by a group of exiles from the mainland who began pirating out of desperation. Due to dire lack of resources, child-bearing was not encouraged and women were also expected to participate in raids. This led to a gradual decline of the traditional Meerban mindset that women were more suited to mental tasks rather than physical ones. There have been as many instances of female captains throughout Felonnian history. In fact, the very pirate responsible for successfully negotiating with the Horus Society was a woman by the name of Partega Alessa, who led the original Scarlet Corsairs, currently another one of the Triad. Marriages are informal and some people even have multiple partners if their loved ones are away at sea for too long. It's a common enough occurrence that the idea carries no scandalous overtones.

Position: Navigator

Appearance:
Callisto is on the slighter end of the spectrum in terms of body build. He carries himself with confidence and has a naturally brisk walk due to many years of waitering at his father's inn. Contrary to his current station as a deckhand, he is drawn to ostentatious dress and often splurges his meager wages on some frilly shirt or another. Of course, he only wears them on land, when he isn't in contact with the dirt and filth of his work. Callisto's voice is on the louder side and he speaks rather quickly as well.

About:
What do you get when you cross a pirate mother with a strict father? A cheeky and disobedient brat who doesn't know his own limits -- all meant endearingly of course. Though his father did his best to raise him well, he inherited a rebellious streak from his mother that rendered most of the man's efforts unsuccessful. Callisto being in an environment where he was constantly surrounded by drunken sailors didn't help either. Strangely, he doesn't cuss often (the soap bar swore him off of it), but he has little to no sense of delicacy when it comes to human interaction. Callisto makes up for this failing with his silver tongue: in spite of his unsophisticated language, he has a way of manipulating words which can be considered charming or infuriating, depending on who you ask.

It's clear from

He's a very easygoing individual who is quite comfortable with who he is. has a magnetic personality that thrives in the company of others.
- adventurous, craving for excitement
- irresponsible and kind of dumb
- passionate about his interests --> lives and breathes in it --> actually literate though his repertoire is limited to

Powers & Abilities:

(Vicarious) Explorer Extraordinaire

Ask him about any corner of the world, and Callisto will tell you to the best of his ability. A map nut from a young age, he’s always been fascinated by far-off lands and treacherous sea routes. Reading atlases and learning about the rest of the world were his main methods of coping with his hunger for adventure. Ironically, they never satiated it, only fueled it further in a vicious cycle that left his attic bedroom looking like the rough equivalent of a moldy archive room crossed with a hurricane disaster area. At times, even the bed would be entirely obscured beneath a heap of tomes detailing history, geology, and geography. He is highly curious about the World Beyond North and the mysteries that lie past the Whirling Sea.

Astronomy Hobbyist
Equipped with a secondhand telescope from his mother, Callisto spent many of his nights perched at his window tracking the movements of the stars according to the change of the seasons. He can roughly figure out directions from the relative positions of the stars, but he's no expert on the matter as limited lens power and cloudy Felonnian nights frequently hindered his endeavors. Having an in-depth conversation with him about astronomy will also likely leave both parties in confusion: Callisto has his own names for most of the constellations, because names for objects are entirely subjective, right?

Swashbuckler and Gunman (?)

Callisto wouldn't be the son of a pirate if all he did was run errands for the inn and read in his free time, would he? He's had regular swashbuckling lessons ever since his early teenage years, though he did start later than most other Felonnian children. He is relatively skilled with a cutlass and can hold his own in a fight, just maybe not one-on-one against someone with a firearm -- such is the fate of outdated technology. Speaking of firearms, Callisto is extremely dangerous with a gun. His aim and handling method is so miraculously bad that he could potentially shoot down a comrade standing outside the direct line of fire, somehow. Sadly, he is unaware of his own incapabilities in marksmanship, so it would be best to keep those murder weapons out of his reach.

Timeline:
  • 3121 - Callisto is born to a pirate and an innkeeper, Alana and Ming respectively. He is jokingly promised to the daughter of a family friend, Frasia.
  • 3128 - Callisto begins helping his father at the inn. He misses his mother who rarely comes home, but becomes further enamored with the pirate lifestyle and sailing in general from the stories he hears.

  • 3130 - Callisto goes out to sea for the first time, though only for an amicable trading visit.
  • 3131 - Alana returns home severely injured after a foiled raid. Half of her crew is decimated and she loses an arm. At Ming's insistence, she stops pirating.

  • 3133 - Alana can't resist the call of the sea and once again gathers up her crew. There aren't any more major incidents, but Ming is still strongly opposed and clearly conflicted.

  • 3137 - Callisto comes of age. He ventures inland with the other youths in an attempt to take the some of the thread spun by the goldspinners as a part of the yearly tradition. He also sails as a part of a crew for the first time, though they don't raid any ships. The joke engagement with Frasia is confirmed by Ming to be true.

  • 3138 - Ming forbids Callisto from partaking in next year's initiation raiding. In fact, he forbids Callisto from pirating, privateering, or looting at sea under any other name.

  • 3139 - Frasia goes to sea without a word because she doesn't want to be bound to Callisto as a marriage partner.

  • 3141 - Frasia does not return. Callisto seizes the chance to leave the island, supposedly to search for her "in the name of love".
  • 3142-3143 - Callisto travels as a deckhand for various merchant ships, though his greatest wish is to join a crew brave enough to push past the boundaries of their world. He sporadically sends letters to Ming.
