we seem to find the dying magic thing to a challenge that makes us pick casters considering we still only have 1 non-caster character.

In all honesty, I have nothing against magic, I just don't like it when people use it to try and forgo puzzles. So I have a setting here where there's areas where magic, just doesn't work
