Some of the character details can be kept a secret if you like, and if that's the case then I require that you send your full, unedited CS to me in a PM with the title 'AAO - [Character Name] - True CS' so that I can keep track of everything. Otherwise post your CS below and I'll let you know if there's any edits that need to be made.


  • Name: Murl
    Race: Human
    Sex: Male

    Background:
    Murl was born a slave into the iron mines of Churn, and was only able to escape thanks to the sacrifice of his parents and fellow workers. Out of the six runners that made the attempt, only he survived. Now Murl looks for absolution and vengeance against the world, hoping to do his part to right the terrible wrongs that have been done to him and others like him.

    Motivation:
    • Desire: Vengeance
      Murl desires more than anything to avenge his parents by killing the taskmasters of Churn, but he'll settle for anything that lets him bring the powerful and unjust down a few pegs.
    • Fear: Capture
      Murl fears that one day he'll be captured and be made a slave again, worse yet if he's discovered to have been prior property of Muuldar. He will do anything to avoid this fate.
    • Strength: Practical
      Living as a slave conditions one to always look for the most practical solution in any situation, and Murl is no exception. Even if it's unpleasant, Murl will always suggest the most direct answer he can see.
    • Flaw: Skeptical
      Murl has a severe distrust of everything that he can't confirm with his own eyes and experience. It was a healthy survival skill in the mines, but out in the world it often does him more harm than good.
    Appearance:
    While Murl might have been a reasonably muscular man, his previous days of hard labor and poor food have prevented his body from developing as it should. As it is he is simply a tall man at 6'5" with gangly limbs and just enough strength to lift heavy tools. His hair is black and thin, hanging about his head in an unkempt mass. He wears a simple smock and wraps on his feet and hands to protect them. His back is riddled with scars from the whip, along with a few unique scars from when the guards got creative with their torture.

    Personality:
    Murl is a quiet sort and is often lost in his own thoughts. He doesn't speak much, but when he does it's clear that there's some kind of intelligence behind his thoughts. Even if his words are simple and blunt, they always have a direct point to them that can't be denied. Murl tends to keep to himself, but is willing to put himself in danger to protect his fellows.

    What is the worst thing they have ever done?:
    Murl knowingly left one of his fellow escapees behind to dash ahead and take his chance at freedom. He still dreams about it some nights.

    What is the worst thing they would be willing to do?:
    Depending on what was to be gained, Murl might be willing to do just about anything if the result would help to end the apocalypse.

'AAO' Archetypes, Careers, Skills, Talents and Gear

Below is a list of all the available mechanical options such as Archetypes, Skills and Talents that we'll be using for the campaign. Any new additions to the lists will be added here when they're created by us and approved by me, or when made available through play.

  • Name: Pashad



    Background: Even in the darkest of times, the human spirit finds ways to try and keep the flame of hope. And so it was, that under the watchful eyes of the demons, a small order of magicians has set itself up. Called the white rose, they seek to preserve the teachings of magic amongst humans, working in a pair of master and student. And one rarely knows more than one other mage, lest all be found out should one be taken.

    Pashad was an orphan, found by a kind woman who taught him to use the gift of magic, and swore him to secrecy about it. He isn’t cowardly, but is very fearful lest the demons find out about his skills. He seeks to find more about the world, and maybe help pave the road to have the demons overthrown.

  • Name: Josef Dekanos

    Background: Josef was a young "volunteer" for his lord's retinue. Picked from the streets, he was soon schooled and trained in the duties and skills of a soldier for his liege's standing army. Often, this meant a lot of guard duty and doing the lord's dirty work. He had spent years, patrolling the streets, inspecting carts, and so on. As the years went on, he was entrusted with more responsibilities and other duties even being promoted to a low ranking officer. Whatever his lord demanded, he obeyed. First, it was the torture of prisoners... accused of treason, but Josef knew that they were bogus charges. Then came the body disposal of the victims of the lord and the demonic monsters. It continued to get worse, and worse until one day Josef could not tolerate it anymore and left his post to vanish into the darkness of the night.

    Motivation:
    • Desire - Vengeance: Josef wishes to see the abominations be driven away and burned into ashes such that no trace of them will exist.
    • Fear - Failure
    • Strength - Courageous
    • Flaw - Deception
    Appearance: Josef is a somewhat taller than average human male (5'8"), but not by much as during his childhood he was rather malnourished. His training and service did provide sufficient nutrition to make up somewhat for the lack of food during his youth, but not enough to compare to the sons of the privileged. With relatively pale skin, his body supports several noticeable scars and various marks that he had sustained through the years since they stand in contrast with his pale skin. In addition, he maintains his hair short as it was required to be able to properly don a helmet. Otherwise, he has a lean physique. His position, while feeding him decently, isn't enough to allow him to gain much fat. It was enough to remain fit, but after running away... his body has certainly taken a bit of a toll and lost some of his muscle tone.

    Personality: "There's the objective, now take it." That phrase explains Josef's thought process very well. When he was a soldier, he got things accomplished as efficiently as possible no matter what it was that he needed to do. Capture a runaway slave? He would start giving small gifts and favors to the other slaves and pry information. Put down a riot? He would order his men to funnel the rioters into a building, and on command, torch it.

    What is the worst thing they have ever done?: Ordered to restore order in a town, Josef had to partake in a witch hunt and accuse many innocents of sedition to instill fear in the people and stomp out any sign of rebellion. Many people and their extended families were victims of the various purges that Josef had to participate in.

    What is the worst thing they would be willing to do?: There is nothing too horrible that can be done to liberate the continent... in fact, chances are that Josef has done worse.

  • Name: Marius Ironhand


    Background: Marius Ironhand was born to violence, birthed in the creche of the Ironhand arena from one of the pleasure girls given to the gladiators to appease them between bouts. He was then put to work when able, working the beast stalls and training pits before he was eventually tapped for training as a gladiator. In the ring, Marius has found the rush of combat and the roar of the crowd the only real release from the boredom of existence and the threat of suffering should he not perform. He managed to win his freedom only recently in a Grand Melee event, where each contestant had to kill all others and survive to be set free. Marius succeeded and was allowed to walk out of the arena to see where his destiny would now take him and his hunger for glory.


    Motivation:
    • Desire - Fame: Marius revels in the adoration of his fans and the horror of those enemies who know his name. He wishes to spread the renown further.
    • Fear - Obscurity: To fade away in the dust of history, his glories and conquests unremembered.
    • Strength - Patient: Marius is known to stalk the arena like a predator at times with a foe. He watches and waits for his moment to strike, often to spectacular and gruesome results.
    • Flaw - Pride: Marius is shamelessly vainglorious as part of his life as a gladiator. Violence is a means to his satisfaction and reward, the roar of a crowd praising his skill.
    Appearance: Marius is a massive man 6' and filled with powerful muscle mass honed for battle and spectacle to keep the mob happy as he slays beasts and foes of the regime in grand combat. He has had the privilege of being well fed even if not the bed food to ensure the area has its brutal warriors to amuse the crowds. He favors leggings and belt with boots, leaving his upper body on display. He keeps his blond hair long if held back for fights.



    Personality: Marius Ironhand is proud of his status, but deep down he also seeks more. To rise above just the arena as a means to appease the people and keep the amused. He wants to carve his name into the blood carcus of history and be remembered forever.



    What is the worst thing they have ever done?: Marius slaughtered five neophyte gladiators with his bare hands once in the arena after arguing with the pit master. He was thrown into a match with them and used his bare hands to kill them all, strangling the last one to death as he looked right at the pit master.


    What is the worst thing they would be willing to do?: Marius would start a war just to make a name for himself as a great warrior within it. Slaughter entire villages if need be while letting survivors flee to spread his reputation.

    Background: Raised in the streets, she's been been tagging along with different groups since she can remember, doing odd jobs. Having seen and learnt many things this way, has left her wary of the world, and lives in constant vigilance, all whilst applying what tricks she's learnt to avoid starvation.

    Motivation:
    • Desire - Belonging. She avoids conflict and anything that could threaten a sense of belonging to a group, or a place.
    • Fear - Death. Because death is scary enough when there aren't demons rampaging around.
    • Strength - Stealth. Good for blending into a group to lose an angry customer.
    • Flaw - Paranoia. Constant worrying over things going wrong, and people lying.
    Appearance: A lanky, overly thin woman. Has short brown hair and eyes, and a tanned skin.

    Personality: A anxious mess. Can hold a calm demeanor for show for some time, but dissension quickly tires her up. Is quiet, but tries to spark conversation topics from time to time. Cautious.

    What is the worst thing they have ever done?: Agreed to keep quiet about one of her companions killing another of them, if the group asked. She never saw them again.

    What is the worst thing they would be willing to do?: Beat down an exasperating person to make them stop talking.

  • Name: Silvia Belarue
    Race: Human
    Sex: Female
    Age: 26

    Background: Once a slave to a demon aligned owner, Silvia experienced nothing but hardship and abuse from the earliest moments of her life. When but an infant she would be prodded and poked for the amusement of others and as she developed as a person it only got worse. During her teen years the abuse turned from the standard physical to mental and sexual. She was already a mother at seventeen and by eighteen she was forced to put her own son to death. From this moment she grew colder and found herself spreading rumours to other slaves whenever she could, rallying them to the singular cause of freedom. By the age of 24 she was over her bondage and in the cover of darkness, when her owner was doing as he pleased with her, he said something to trigger her. In a fit of rage she sprung her trap and strangled him to death with the assistance of two other slaves. Their moment of triumph was quickly washed out with a sense of panic and those slaves that could flee did, taking only what they could carry in their arms as they fled into the wastes to rally behind their saviour in bondage.

    Motivation:
    • Desire - Safety: Not just the safety of herself, but also the safety of those who follow her and those who she believes need it.
    • Fear - Victimhood: Having already been a victim for a long portion of her life, Silvia fears falling back into bondage or being made into a victim again.
    • Strength - Determined: Silvia's past has provided her with a lot of reasons to hate her enemies. These reasons help keep her so determined.
    • Flaw - Paranoid: Knowing that demons can offer promises of power and protection, Silvia is always paranoid one of her followers could secretly be working against her to secure their own safety.
    Appearance: Obviously a resistance fighter at a glance. Silvia has soft features that manage to appear both gentle and battle hardened at the same time. She has short blonde hair, pale white skin, and bright blue eyes. On her cheek is a large circular tattoo with a loop that climbs her nose and cuts through her eyebrow. The tattoo serves as a public mark that she is a slave of Belarue. She is rarely clean and her clothes are no better than that of the common man or woman in Leth. While seemingly a mediocre to poor lifestyle, Silvia is often seen with as much of a smile as can be made when reflecting on the fact her and her people now have their freedom.

    Personality: Silvia had the potential to grow into a caring woman or a violent savage and now seems to walk the fine line. To her there are two sides in Leth. You are either fighting with her, or you are fighting against her. Those who support the demonic rulers are tarred with a brush that deems them unworthy of existence and those that follow the Faith of the Damned are not only willing slaves but traitors to their kind and worthy of a most painful death. Silvia has long forgotten the idea of mercy to those who are not her own and while others may choose to believe in the gods, she has come to realise no god could have ever existed and allowed this to happen.

    What is the worst thing they have ever done?: Between selling out fellow slaves while in bondage to save herself and taking the life of her own son, she is hard pressed to specify which takes its toll on her heart more.

    What is the worst thing they would be willing to do?: Silvia dreams of a future where demons and those that ever considered working with them are exterminated from existence. She would be willing to go to any length for that to turn to reality. There is no evil too great to reach that goal.
