Realistic or Modern A Tale of Two Families (A 1950s Crime Drama)

Rusty of Shackleford

Nine Thousand Club
September 2, 1950
New York City, New York

Just five years prior, the world breathed a sigh of relief. With the Nazi regime all but obliterated, and with the formal surrender of Emperor Hirohito, the Second World War was over, and the world once again knew peace. With this peace came prosperity. America had risen from the ashes an international superpower, rivaled only by the Soviet Union. America looked forward to the future, confident that their way of life would go unchallenged. But underneath the shiny exterior of the idilic American family lay a darker side. Paranoia, witch hunts, and more plagued the nation, and as tensions rose between the world's new superpowers, fear gripped America. This was a perfect opportunity for those who seek more... unorthodox methods of making a living. New York is controlled by two families: the Mancuso's, Sicilian immigrants that fled to America during Mussolini's rise, and through their ruthless tactics, beat the other families into submission. On the other side are the Hughes, the last remnant of the Irish mob in New York. Proud and firey, they've survived through sheer determination, and loyalty. Ever since these two families met, they've despised one another. Blood has been spilled on both sides, and it seems there's no end in sight to their feud...

That was until the oldest son of Alphonso Mancuso, Don of the entire Mancuso crime family, burst into a quite unfriendly meeting between the two warring families, with the eldest daughter of the Hughes' in tow. Turned out, the two were madly in love, and we're planning to get married. Though extremely reluctant at first, both families agreed to accept the marriage, and to put their differences aside. But this isn't a fairy tale. Old wounds fun deep, and the families aren't suddenly buddy buddy with one another. And many see the marriage as proof that the two families have grown soft, and there will inevitably be blood once again. The only question is if the Mancuso's and the Hughes' can avoid spilling each other's blood first...

Hello there! So, as the introduction stated, this is sort of like a Romeo and Juliet type story, with two completely opposite warring families being united via marriage! Except this is like what would happen if Romeo and Juliet didn't die, and the Montague's and Capulet's were forced to be in-laws. So don't expect these people to suddenly be friends. They've been fighting for years, and a simple marriage isn't going to change that. The tone will be similar to classic mov movies like The Godfather, Casino, and Goodfellas, so expect a lot of murder, death, and adult themes. The mafia was not the honorable criminals you see in the movies. These are criminals, and with crime comes greed, and with greed comes betrayal. But that doesn't mean there can't be humor. I mean, Goodfellas made a guy being brutally murdered in the trunk of a car absolutely hilarious, so why can't we? Anyways, the rules are pretty lax, so I'll keep it brief:

1. Be cool. If you want to do something, all you have to do is ask. Be respectful and courteous to everyone, and just generally have fun.

2. Be accurate to the time period. This is 1950s post-war America, so don't expect gay characters to be treated well. Not saying you can't make one, hell, I encourage some of you to, but be aware that there will be a lot of slurs thrown at them. Same for African Americans, Jews, etc.

3. Speaking of which, I am allowing you guys to use racial slurs, but only under strict supervision. They can only be said in character in dialogue. I won't tolerate you using it in any other circumstance, and even then I ask you don't overuse them.

4. Just have fun!

Alright, with that out of the way, the families! I'll give the roles I need filled for each of them below, as well as a brief description of them. If you wanna role, feel free to reserve it!

The Muscano's:
The Muscano's are the most feared crime family on the East Coast. Their leader, Alphonso, is infamous for his ruthlessness, and cold, calloused tactics. This carries on into the family itself. They're renowned for their intelligence, and few people can deny that they get the job done, one way or the other. But as Italian's, they value family above all else. A Muscano lives, kills, and dies for the family, and their rationality gives way to cold, bitter revenge, which often ends in several brutal murders.

The Hughes:
The Hughes are the fire to the Muscano's ice. A passionate, rowdy bunch, they wear their hearts on their sleeves. If a Hughes is angry, you'll know it right before they kick your teeth in while cursing incessantly. They're tied very closely to their homeland, and often provide services for the IRA, but they focus mostly on themselves? Like the Muscano's, a Hughes loves their family above all else. Doesn't matter how distant, a slight against one Hughes is a slight against them all. Recently, they've been hit hard with the loss of their boss, Aidan Hughes, leaving one of his sons in his stead.

Jumping on the Mafia bandwagon!

I'll take the eldest daughter, if that's cool.

I'd also like to add that you can play characters that aren't affiliated with the families! So like, friends that aren't aware, weapon dealers, for even someone from a rival gang.

Definitely interested in this, though I'll need some time to nail down my character concept given the time period and all~

The CS is up people! Feel free to post when ya want!
